RESUMO: Varronia curassavica é uma espécie medicinal nativa no Brasil e sua propriedade anti-inflamatória é atribuída aos compostos α-humuleno e β-cariofileno. O objetivo foi estudar a variabilidade de população de V. curassavica. Foram coletadas folhas de 40 indivíduos de população natural, sendo estas transferidas para frascos de vidro (2 mL). Os voláteis foram extraídos e analisados por headspace estático, associado à cromatografia gasosa, acoplada à espectrometria de massas (HS-CG-EM). Detectou-se 17 compostos: monoterpenos (1,6% - 68%) e sesquiterpenos (25,7% - 79,0%), incluindo o α-humuleno e o β-cariofileno. A análise multivariada foi realizada para estimar a dissimilaridade dos indivíduos, a qual separou quatro grupos. O grupo I foi caracterizado pela presença do α-pineno, os grupos II e IV do β-cariofileno e o grupo III do β-pineno. O teor do α-humuleno apresentou pequenas variações, enquanto o do β-cariofileno contribuiu mais para a variabilidade da população. É o primeiro relato de análise da composição química de compostos voláteis de V. curassavica utilizando a técnica HS-GC-MS.

ABSTRACT: Varronia curassavica is a medicinal species native to Brazil; its anti-inflammatory properties are attributed to α-humulene and β-caryophyllene. This study to investigated the population variability of V. curassavica. Leaves were collected from 40 individuals of a natural population and transferred to glass flasks (2 mL). The volatiles were extracted and analyzed using static headspace gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (HS-GC-MS). A total of 17 compounds were detected: monoterpenes (1.6% - 68%) and sesquiterpenes (25.7% - 79.0%), including α-humulene and β-caryophyllene. Multivariate analysis was performed to estimate the dissimilarity of individuals separated the compounds into four groups. Group I was characterized by the content of α-pinene, groups II and IV by β-caryophyllene, and group III by β-pinene. The abundance of α-humulene showed small variations; while β-caryophyllene showed larger variations that contributed to the population variability. This is the first report on the chemical composition analysis of volatile compounds in V. curassavica using the HS-GC-MS technique.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o crescimento e o teor de óleo essencial após transplantio e corte de acessos de Lippia rotundifolia provenientes de população natural do estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil. Avaliaram-se oito acessos (PVP, GIG, RPE, ODA, JFE, PRP, SGS e RTI), em seis períodos (60, 81, 102, 123, 144 e 165 dias após transplantio e corte), em delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado. Foram avaliados os seguintes parâmetros: largura média e comprimento do par de folhas basal, mediano e apical; altura da planta; diâmetro do caule; e número de folhas. Aos 165 dias, também avaliaram-se produção de óleo essencial e fitomassa fresca e seca da parte aérea. Sessenta dias após a última avaliação, mensurou-se a rebrota a partir de altura, diâmetro do caule e número de folhas. O acesso JFE se destaca na emissão de folhas, com melhor desenvolvimento aos 165 dias após o transplantio. RPE e PRP respondem bem à rebrota aos 102 e 123 dias após o corte, respectivamente. O acesso SGS apresenta alta produção de óleo essencial de 2,2%, e o PVP, baixa produção de 0,3%.

Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the growth and essential oil content after transplantation and cutting of Lippia rotundifolia accessions from a natural population from the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Eight accessions were evaluated (PVP, GIG, RPE, ODA, JFE, PRP, SGS, and RTI) in six periods (60, 81, 102, 123, 144, and 165 days after transplanting and cutting), in a completely randomized experimental design. The following parameters were assessed: average width and length of the basal, median, and apical pair of leaves; plant height; stem diameter; and number of leaves. At 165 days, the yield of essential oil and the fresh and dry phytomass of the aerial part were also evaluated. Sixty days after the last evaluation, regrowth was measured from height, stem diameter, and number of leaves. The JFE accession stands out for emission of leaves, with a better development at 165 days after transplanting. RPE and PRP respond well to regrowth at 102 and 123 days after cutting, respectively. The SGS accession shows a high essential oil yield of 2.2%, and PVP, a low yield of 0.3%.

RESUMO Dimorphandra mollis é nativa do Cerrado e possui importância social, econômica e ambiental. Objetivou-se avaliar a produtividade e distribuição diamétrica de Dimorphandra mollis Benth. na Área de Proteção Ambiental do Rio Pandeiros, em Bonito de Minas, Minas Gerais. Foram avaliadas cinco áreas, totalizando cinco hectares (50 parcelas de 1.000 m2). O número total de plantas, produtividade por planta (2018, 2019 e 2020) e diâmetro à altura do peito foram registrados, considerando-se todas as árvores das parcelas em classes diamétricas. O diâmetro médio à altura do peito de todas as plantas foi de 6,05 ± 3,07 cm, e o das plantas que tiveram produção em pelo menos um dos anos avaliados foi de 7,46 ± 3,15 cm. A distribuição diamétrica apresentou classes sem indivíduos, indicando desequilíbrio, bem como tendência ao formato de “J” invertido. A produtividade anual máxima foi de 8,08 kg ha-1 de frutos secos (2019), a mínima de 0,42 kg ha-1 (2018) e a média de 2,74 kg ha-1, com característica de bienalidade.

ABSTRACT Dimorphandra mollis is native to the Brazilian Savanna and has social, economic and environmental importance. This study aimed to evaluate the yield and diametric distribution of Dimorphandra mollis Benth. in the Pandeiros River Environmental Protection Area, in Bonito de Minas, Minas Gerais state, Brazil. Five areas were assessed, totaling five hectares (50 plots of 1,000 m2). The total number of plants, yield per plant (2018, 2019 and 2020) and diameter at breast height were recorded, considering all trees from the plots in diametric classes. The average diameter at breast height of all plants was 6.05 ± 3.07 cm, and that of the plants that produced in at least one of the evaluated years was 7.46 ± 3.15 cm. The diametric distribution showed classes with no individuals, indicating imbalance, as well as a trend to inverted “J” shape. The maximum annual yield was 8.08 kg ha-1 of dry fruits (2019), the minimum 0.42 kg ha-1 (2018), and the average 2.74 kg ha-1, with biennial characteristic.

ABSTRACT. Varronia curassavica (Jacq.) is a shrub and perennial plant native to Brazil that has therapeutic, anti-inflammatory and cicatrizing properties. The objective of this work was to study the chemical diversity of the native populations of this species maintained in the in vivo germplasm bank from Montes Claros, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The essential oils of 10 accessions analyzed in triplicate were obtained by hydrodistillation. Fifty-five compounds were detected, 46 of which were identified by GC-MS analysis. Essential oil yield ranged from 0.1 (VC-9) to 1.22% (VC-3) among the studied accessions. Three groups were formed by cluster analysis. Group A presented lower relative abundance of the compounds α-humulene (1.4%) and β-caryophyllene (8.5%). Conversely, in Group B, the most abundant compound was α-humulene (31.6%). Group C, with the greatest number of accessions, presented values of up to 6.1 and 41.2% for α-humulene and β-caryophyllene, respectively. Only two accessions (VC-1 and VC-5) presented α-humulene content lower than that recommended for phytotherapeutic production. These results, along with consolidating breeding programs, contribute to the conservation of the species.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the hematological profile, hepatic function, and histopathology of mixed-sex broilers fed rations supplemented with microencapsulated essential oils from Cymbopogon flexuosus (lemon grass) and Lippia rotundifolia (chá-de-pedestre). One hundred and fifty Cobb chicks were housed in cages from 1 to 42 days of age in a completely randomized design, with six replicates with five chickens in each of five treatments (150 total chicks): basal diet without antibiotic growth promoter (negative control), diet with enramicina and salinomycin (positive control), diet with lemon grass essential oil, diet with L. rotundifolia essential oil, and diet with a mixture of lemon grass and L. rotundifolia essential oils. Mean corpuscular volume (MCV) and mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH) were significantly lower in untreated broilers (negative control group). Gender was not associated with erythrogram values, but aspartate aminotransferase activity (AST) was higher in females. Gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) was higher in chicks in the group that received rations with lemon grass oil. Broilers that received L. rotundifolia oil developed more hepatic lesions, although no effect of sex was observed related to the lesion score. Biliary hyperplasia and fibroplasias were observed in all groups, with higher histopathology scores in broilers that received diets containing L. rotundifolia oil. Mixed-sex broilers fed rations supplemented with lemon grass and L. rotundifolia essential oils have normal complete blood counts and unspecific hepatic lesions and are characterized by lipidosis, hyperplasia of the bile ducts, and fibroplasia.

RESUMO: A atividade conservante e antioxidante de óleos essenciais são importantes ferramentas para uso na indústria de alimentos e pesquisas são estimuladas na atualidade. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar as propriedades antioxidantes e a atividade antimicrobiana de óleos essenciais de Syzygium aromaticum, Cymbopogon citratuse Lippia alba (LA) contra bactérias lácticas e patogênicas com importância em doenças transmitidas por alimentos. A atividade antibacteriana dos óleos foi avaliada por testes de disco-difusão e macrodiluição em caldo, utilizando-se cultura láctica mista de Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus e Streptococcus thermophilus (YF-L903), e Escherichia coli (ATCC 8739), Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 6538), Salmonella enterica (ATCC 6017). Os compostos dos óleos essenciais foram identificados por cromatografia, mostrando eugenol (79,41%) como composto predominante em S. aromaticum, geranial (31,89%), neral (24,52%) e β-mirceno (25,37%) em C. citratus, e o geranial (33,80%) e neral (25,63%) em L. alba. A atividade antibacteriana confirmou o efeito dose-dependente dos três óleos para todas as bactérias avaliadas, apresentando halos de inibição a partir da concentração de 20μL mL-1. O óleo essencial de S. aromaticum apresentou melhor atividade antioxidante, com IC 50 IC50 (at concentration capable of generating 50% inhibition) igual a 5.76μg mL-1 e índice de atividade antioxidante (AAI) de 6,94, considerado forte (AAI>2,0) em relação aos demais óleos avaliados. O óleo essencial de S. aromaticum apresentou excelente atividade antioxidante em menor concentração que anecessário para inibir a cultura láctica, indicando que este óleo pode ser usado como conservante em alimentos processados contendo culturas lácticas.

ABSTRACT: Studies about preservative and antioxidant activity of essential oils have been encouraged in recent years, given their importance to food industry. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the antioxidant properties and antimicrobial activity of essential oils deriving from Syzygium aromaticum, Cymbopogon citratus and Lippia alba against lactic and pathogenic bacteria responsible for food-borne diseases. Essential oil antibacterial activity was assessed through disc diffusion and macrodilution tests conducted in a mixed lactic culture of Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus (YF-L903) and of Escherichia coli (ATCC 8739), Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 6538), Salmonella enterica (ATCC 6017) strains. Based on the chromatographic analysis results, the essential oils shown to be composed of eugenol (79.41%) which was the prevalent compound in S. aromaticum, geranial (31.89%), neral (24.52%) and β-myrcene (25.37%) in C. citratus, as well as of geranial (33.80%) and neral (25.63%) in L. alba. The observed antibacterial activity confirmed the dose-dependent effect of these three oils on all the assessed bacteria; there was halo inhibition at concentration 20μL mL-1. The essential oil of S. aromaticum presented better antioxidant activity, with IC50 equal to 5.76μg mL-1 and antioxidant activity index of 6.94, and it was considered strong (AAI>2.0) in comparison to the other evaluated oils. This essential oil also presented excellent antioxidant activity at concentrations lower than the one required to inhibit lactic cultures. Based in this outcome, the essential oil from S. aromaticum can be used as preservative agent in processed food whose formulation presents lactic cultures.

RESUMO No trabalho foi avaliado o efeito antimicrobiano do óleo capim limão (Cymbopogon citratus) microencapsulado frente a cepas de Escherichia coli (ATCC8739), Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 6538) e Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica (ATCC 6017), e a estabilidade do óleo em ração de frangos de corte. O teste de Concentração Inibitória Mínima (CIM) e Concentração Bactericida Mínima (CBM) do óleo essencial de capim-limão microencapsulado foi determinado pelo método de macrodiluição (tubo) utilizando as concentrações de 160μL/mL, 80μL/mL, 40μL/mL, 20μL/mLe 10μL/mL. A concentração do óleo de 80μL/mL apresentou melhores resultados frente às três bactérias. Para a avaliação da estabilidade foram separados e armazenadas porções de 200g de ração misturadas com o óleo essencial de capim limão na dosagem de 120μL/g de ração, foram preparadas porções de ração sem a presença do óleo essencial para teste controle, os resultados mostraram que o óleo permaneceu ativo até sete dias, com redução significativa de 3,08 UFC para S. aureus, 3, 01 para E. coli e 3,10 S. entérica. Conclui-se que, óleo essencial de capimlimão microencapuslado tem atividade antibacteriana na concentração de 80 μL/mL frente à Escherichia coli, S. entérica e S. aureus e promove a estabilidade da ração no período de sete dias mesmo na presença da matéria orgânica que é fonte de nutrientes para patógenos.

SUMMARY The antibacterial effect of microencapsulated lemon grass (Cymbopogon citratus) essential oil on strains of Escherichia coli (ATCC8739), Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 6538) and Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica (ATCC 6017), and the stability of this oil in feeds for broiler chickens were evaluated. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) were determined by the macrodilution method, using the microencapsulated lemon grass essential oil at concentrations of 160 μL mL−1, 80 μL mL−1, 40 μL mL−1, 20 μL mL−1, and 10 μL mL−1. The oil concentration of 80 μL mL−1 presented the best results against the three bacteria evaluated. Samples of 200 g of feed mixed with 120 μL g−1 of the microencapsulated lemon grass essential oil was stored to evaluate the oil stability. Feed without microencapsulated lemon grass essential oil was prepared as control. The oil remained active for seven days, with significant reduction of S. aureus (3.08 CFU), E. coli (3.01 CFU), and S. enterica (3.10 CFU). The microencapsulated lemon grass essential oil at concentration of 80 μL mL−1 had antibacterial effect against the E. coli, S. enterica and S. aureus, and maintained stability of the feed for seven days, even with presence of organic matter, which is source of nutrients for pathogens.

ABSTRACT This study investigated the effects of Cymbopogon flexuosus and Lippia rotundifolia microencapsulated essential oils on broiler performance and carcass yield. One hundred and fifty mixed-sex Cobb broiler chicks were used, from one day up to 42 days of age, in a completely randomized design, with five treatments and three replicates of ten birds each. The treatments were: negative control (basal diet), positive control (diet with enramycin and salinomycin), and three diets with microencapsulated essential oils from lemongrass, L. rotundifolia, and combination with 50% of both. The performance and carcass yield were not affected by the treatments. The intestine absolute weight was lower in the combination treatment compared with the negative control treatment and the lemongrass essential oil. The intestine relative weight was higher in the treatments with lemongrass and L. rotundifolia essential oils in relation to the combination. The liver relative weight was lower with the lemongrass essential oil and the combination compared with the treatment with the L. rotundifolia essential oil. The trial could not find results enough to recommend the use of the lemongrass and L. rotundifolia essential oils as an additive in broiler diets.

RESUMO: Conhecer a exigência hídrica de espécies florestais na fase de muda, além de proporcionar maior produtividade, possibilita reduzir custos, eliminando irrigações desnecessárias. Este estudo foi realizado com o objetivo de avaliar o efeito dos regimes hídricos no crescimento inicial, produção de folhas, teor e composição química do óleo essencial de Eucalyptus globulus , nos primeiros 120 dias de cultivo. O trabalho foi conduzido no Instituto de Ciências Agrárias da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (ICA/UFMG), Montes Claros, MG, empregando o delineamento inteiramente casualizado. Os tratamentos consistiram em seis regimes hídricos (50%, 75%, 100%, 125%, 150% e 175% da Evapotranspiração de referência - ETo), com quatro repetições. O crescimento das plantas foi avaliado por meio de dimensões lineares - altura, diâmetro do coleto e número de folhas. O óleo essencial foi extraído das folhas frescas e obtido pelo processo de hidrodestilação , em aparelho Clevenger. Neste estudo, foi observado que lâminas de irrigação correspondentes a 75% da ETo são responsáveis por maior crescimento do E. globulus e maior produção de matéria seca das folhas. As menores lâminas de irrigação foram responsáveis pelos maiores teores de óleo essencial. O óleo essencial foi analisado por cromatografia gasosa acoplada à espectrometria de massas (CG-EM), e apontou o eucaliptol (40,84 a 55,72%) como composto majoritário para todos os tratamentos. Os compostos como β-mirceno, α-Gurgujeno, Alloromadendreno e Varidiflorene apareceram em condições específicas de irrigação.

ABSTRACT: Understanding the water requirement of forest species in the seedling stage supports cost reduction by eliminating unnecessary irrigation in addition to providing higher productivity. This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of the water regime on initial growth, leaf production and content and chemical composition of the essential oil of Eucalyptus globulus , during the first 120 days of cultivation. The experiment employed a completely randomized design and was carried out at the Instituto de Ciências Agrárias da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (ICA/UFMG), Montes Claros, MG. Treatments consisted of six different water regimes (50%, 75%, 100%, 125%, 150% and 175% of the reference evapotranspiration - ETo) with four replicates. Plant growth was evaluated by measuring linear dimensions - height, stem diameter and number of leaves. The essential oil was extracted from fresh leaves by hydrodistillation in a Clevenger apparatus. The present study demonstrated that irrigation depths corresponding to 75% of the ETo are responsible for increased growth of E. globulus and increased dry matter production of leaves. The lowest irrigation levels were responsible for the greatest essential oil content. The essential oil was analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (CG- MS), and eucalyptol (40.84% to 55.72%) was reported to be the major compound for all treatments. Compounds such as β-myrcene, α-Gurgujeno, Alloromadendreno, Varidiflorene appear under specific irrigation conditions.

RESUMO: Lippia rotundifolia é uma espécie nativa do Cerrado e endêmica da Cadeia do Espinhaço. Devido a poucas informações acerca da espécie, objetivou-se caracterizar as condições ecogeográficas e edafoclimáticas bem como os atributos físico-químicos do solo da Lippia rotundifolia no estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil. Realizou-se o levantamento ecogeográfico em 13 locais (Parque Estadual Veredas do Peruaçu, Gigante, Rio do Peixe, APA de Olhos d’Água, Joaquim Felício, Parque Estadual do Rio Preto, São Gonçalo do Rio das Pedras, Rio Tigre, RPPN Brumas do Espinhaço, Lapinha, Poço Bonito, Abóboras e Parque Estadual de Serra Nova). Os resultados identificaram os ambientes pertencentes aos biomas Cerrado e Caatinga especificamente nos campos rupestres e de altitude. A espécie ocorre entre as altitudes de 691 a 1311 metros, precipitação entre 700 a 1600 milímetros e temperatura média variando entre 14,5 a 24 graus. Nestas fitofisionomias os solos apresentam textura arenosa, são hiperdistrófico, altamente tóxico com baixa capacidade de troca de cátions, que faz a espécie ser pouco exigente quanto aos fatores edafoclimáticos e ecogeográficos.

ABSTRACT: Lippia rotundifolia is a specie native to the Brazilian Cerrado, endemic to the Cadeia do Espinhaço mountain range. Due to the limited information about the species, the present study aimed to characterize the ecogeography, climate conditions and physical and chemical characteristics of the soil of Lippia rotundifolia in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Thirteen sites were ecogeographically characterized: Parque Estadual Veredas do Peruaçu; Gigante; Rio do Peixe; AEP of Olhos D’água; Joaquim Felício; Parque Estadual do Rio Preto; São Gonçalo do Rio das Pedras; Rio Tigre; RPPN Brumas do Espinhaço; Lapinha; Poço Bonito; Abóboras; and Parque Estadual de Serra Nova. Environments belonged to Cerrado and Caatinga biomes, specifically in rocky and altitude fields. The species occurs at altitudes between 691-1311m, with precipitation between 700 to 1600mm and average temperature between 14.5 to 24°C. In these vegetation types, the soils were sandy, hyper dystrophic and highly toxic with a low cation exchange capacity. These characteristics make the species undemanding with regard to edaphoclimatic and ecogeographic factors.

RESUMO: Lippia rotundifolia é uma espécie nativa do Cerrado, endêmica da cadeia do espinhaço e altamente aromática, cujo óleo essencial possui propriedades medicinais de alto valor farmacológico, mas, por tratar-se de uma espécie não domesticada, pouco se sabe quanto a sua propagação. Devido a sua importância, objetivou-se avaliar o efeito do condicionamento osmótico sobre a qualidade física e fisiológica de suas sementes. O delineamento experimental foi o inteiramente casualizado com quatro repetições de 100 sementes, sendo que os tratamentos consistiram em dois tipos de sementes (com e sem tegumento) submetidas a dez tempos de embebição em água (0, 2, 4, 6, 12, 24, 48, 72, 96 e 120 horas). Após cada período, as sementes foram submetidas ao teste de condutividade elétrica e de germinação. Entre a condutividade elétrica e a porcentagem de germinação há relação diretamente proporcional, enquanto o melhor tempo de condicionamento osmótico é alcançado nas sementes com tegumento e imersas em água, durante 48 horas.

ABSTRACT: Lippia rotundifolia is a native species of the Cerrado, endemic to the chain backbone and highly aromatic, whose essential oil has medicinal properties of high pharmacological value, but because it is a non-domesticated species, little is known about its spread. Due to its importance, the objective was to evaluate the effect of the osmotic conditioning on the physical and physiological quality of seeds. The experimental design was completely randomized with four replications of 100 seeds, being treatments consisted of two kinds of seeds (with and without tegument) subjected to ten days of immersion in water (0, 2, 4, 6, 12, 24, 48, 72, 96 and 120 hours). After each period, the seeds were submitted to the electrical conductivity test and germination. Electrical conductivity and germination there is a directly proportional relationship, while the best osmotic conditioning time is achieved with the seed husk and immersed in water for 48 hours.

Resumo: Objetivou-se determinar atividade antisséptica do óleo essencial de Lippia origanoides na presença de leite bovino. A composição química do óleo essencial de alecrim pimenta foi determinada por cromatografia gasosa acoplada à espectrometria de massas (CG-EM), sendo detectados 53 compostos, dos quais 16 foram identificados (>0,1% área total). O carvacrol (32,7%), p-cimeno (23%), timilmetil éter, cariofileno (7,98%) e o γ-terpineno (5,40%) foram os componentes mais abundantes. A concentração inibitória mínima para Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 e E. coli ATCC 8739 foi de 60μL/mL, enquanto para Salmonella Choleraesuis ATCC 35640 foi de 90μL/mL. A concentração bactericida mínima foi de 120μL/mL para as três bactérias. Avaliou-se a atividade antisséptica do óleo essencial na concentração de 120μL/mL na presença de leite bovino sobre as mesmas cepas bacterianas. O óleo em estudo apresentou efeito inibitório do crescimento das cepas em diferentes tempos de ação (p<0,05). S. aureus apresentou maiores índices de inibição após 5 min de contato e Escherichia coli e Salmonella Choleraesuis após 15 min. O óleo essencial de alecrim-pimenta revelou ser um potencial antimicrobiano natural, mesmo na presença de matéria orgânica constituída de uma matriz nutricional complexa que é o leite bovino.

Abstract: This study aimed to determine the antiseptic activity of the essential oil of Lippia origanoides in the presence of bovine milk. The essential oil chemical composition was determined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (CG EM) 53 compounds were detected, of which 16 were identified (>0.1% total area). The carvacrol (32.7%), p-cymene (23%), thymil methyl ether (10.03%), caryophyllene (7.98 %) and γ-terpinene (5.40%) were the most abundant components. The minimum inhibitory concentration for Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and Escherichia coli ATCC 8739 was 60uL/mL, as for this Salmonella Choleraesuis ATCC 35640 was 90uL/mL. The minimum bactericidal concentration was 120μL/mL for all three bacteria. We evaluated the antiseptic activity of the essential oil in the concentration of 120μL/mL in the presence of bovine milk for the same bacterial strains. The oil under study It showed an inhibitory effect of growth of the strains in different action times (p <0.05). S. aureus showed higher inhibition rates after 5 min of contact and E. coli and Salmonella Choleraesuis after 15 min. The essential oil Lippia origanoides proved to be a natural antimicrobial potential even in the presence of organic matter consists of a complex nutritional matrix is bovine milk.

RESUMO Objetivou-se caracterizar a população de Stryphnodendron adstringens (Mart.) Coville para verificar a viabilidade de manejo em uma área de cerrado sensu stricto no norte de Minas Gerais. Para isso, inventariaram-se 25 parcelas, de 400 m² cada uma, em dois sítios (I e II), totalizando 1 hectare amostrado em cada sítio. Foram mensurados todos os indivíduos adultos vivos de barbatimão com diâmetros a 1,30 m do solo (DAP) ≥ 3 cm de barbatimão. Dentro das parcelas foram mensurados o diâmetro (DAP) e a altura (H) e, posteriormente, para cada sítio foram avaliados: o quociente de De Liocourt (q), a área basal (G) e a estratificação vertical. Os resultados mostraram uma densidade de 180 e 218 indivíduos/ha, diâmetros médio de 7,38 e 6,26 cm, média de 'q' de 2,22 e 1,50 e alturas médias de 2,93 e 3,10 m nos dois sítios respectivamente. O quociente de De Liocourt mostrou comprometimento no recrutamento em algumas classes diamétricas no Sítio II. Apesar do desbalanceamento apontado pelo valor 'q', a distribuição diamétrica comportou-se de forma exponencialmente negativa conforme o esperado para florestas nativas em processo de sucessão secundária. Observou-se uma maior concentração de indivíduos no estrato médio de altura com 142 e 154 indivíduos em cada sítio respectivamente. Conclui-se que, embora tenham estruturas distintas, nos dois sítios estudados, as populações de barbatimão são compostas por um grande número de indivíduos de pequenos diâmetros e com exclusividade do estrato vertical mediano. A capacidade de regeneração da espécie, alta densidade de indivíduos por hectare e a estrutura horizontal e vertical mostram que existe viabilidade em manejar o barbatimão no dois sítios desde que suas estruturas sejam mantidas equilibradas.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to characterize of the Stryphnodendron adstringens (Mart.) Coville population to verify the viability of sustainable management in area of Savanna in the north of state Minas Gerais, Brazil country. Therefore inventoried 25 plots of 400 square meters in two places, in all was inventoried one hectare in each places. Was measured all adults individuals with diameter at breast height the 1,30 meter (DBH) ≤ 3 centimeter of barbatimão. In these plots was measured the diameter (DBH) and height (H) and subsequently for each site was evaluated: the De Liocourt quotient (q), basal area (G) and vertical stratification. The outcome showed a density of 180 and 218, mean diameters of 7,38 and 6,26 meters, mean of 'q' of 2,22 and 1,50 and means heights of 2,93 and 3,10 meters in two site respectively. The quotient' De Liocourt showed imbalance in the recruitment in some classes of Site two. Although the imbalance indicated by 'q', the diameter distribution behaved exponentially negative as expected for native forests in the process of secondary succession. The Observed a more concentration of individuals in the middle stratum with 142 and 154 individuals in each site respectively. The conclusion this work that is although the species has distinct structure, on both sites studied the population of the barbatimão is constituted for a great number of diameter small individuals and with exclusivity of middle vertical stratum. The regenerative capacity of the specie, density height of the individuals per hectare and the horizontal and vertical structure show that there is viability to manage of the barbatimão on both sites since that their structures is maintained balanced.

O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar as condições ecogeográficas e edafoclimáticas dos ambientes de ocorrência da erva-baleeira (Varronia curassavica) nas mesorregiões Norte e Vale do Jequitinhonha de Minas Gerais. O estudo foi efetuado em 15 sítios de ocorrência dessa espécie, localizados em 14 municípios sob o bioma Cerrado e ocorreu nos tipos de vegetação Cerrado, Caatinga, restinga e floresta. Os sítios estão localizados predominantemente entre 495 e 895m de altitude, e as plantas localizam-se sempre na parte inferior da topossequência. A precipitação média anual variou de <1.000mm a 1.500mm e a temperatura média anual variou de <19 a 24°C. A espécie tolera solos fortemente ácidos e com alta saturação de alumínio, ocorrendo em diferentes níveis de fertilidade e classes de solo. Nas mesorregiões Norte e Vale Jequitinhonha de Minas Gerais, a erva-baleeira não apresentou condições ecogeográficas e edafoclimáticas específicas para a sua ocorrência

The objective of this study was to evaluate the ecogeographic and edaphoclimatic conditions of the environments of occurrence of Cordia (Varronia curassavica) at the mesoregions Northern and Jequitinhonha Valley in Minas Gerais. The study was conducted in 15 places of occurrence of this species, located in 14 municipalities under the Cerrado biome and occurred in the Cerrado, Caatinga, marsh and, forest vegetation types. The places are located predominantly between 495 and 895m of altitude, and the plants are located always at the bottom of the top sequence. The annual average rainfall ranged from <1,000mm to 1,500mm and the annual average temperature ranged from <19 to 24°C. The species tolerates acid soils with high aluminum saturation, occurring at different fertility levels and soil types. In the mesoregions Northern and Jequitinhonha Valley in Minas Gerais the Cordia showed no ecogeographic and climatic specific conditions for its occurrence

O trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a produção da biomassa e o rendimento de óleo essencial da melissa, quando em cultivo solteiro e consorciada com mil-folhas e alface. Os tratamentos consistiram em melissa em cultivo solteiro, melissa em consórcio com mil-folhas, melissa consorciada com alface, mil-folhas e alface em cultivo solteiro. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado com cinco tratamentos e seis repetições. Foram avaliados o teor e o rendimento do óleo essencial da melissa e a matéria fresca e a matéria seca da parte aérea de todas as espécies. Notou-se, a partir dos valores das médias, que o cultivo consorciado de melissa com alface proporcionou maior rendimento de óleo essencial, matéria fresca e matéria seca. Os menores valores de todas as variáveis foram observados no cultivo solteiro da melissa. Considerando o Uso Eficiente da Terra (UET), o cultivo consorciado da mil-folhas e da alface com a melissa gerou bons rendimentos de biomassa das plantas, pois os valores calculados para as espécies foram superiores a 1,0. O cultivo consorciado das espécies não interferiu significativamente no teor do óleo essencial da melissa.

The research aimed to evaluate melissa's biomass production and its essential oil output, both single cultivation and linked cultivation to yarrow and lettuce. The treatments were consisted in single cultivantion melissa, melissa linked to yarrow, melissa linked to lettuce, yarrow and lettuce in single cultivation. The experimental design used was a totally randomized design with five treatment and six repetitions. Was evaluated the content and the yield of essential oil of melissa, the fresh matter and the dry matter of the aerial part of all species. It was seen from the average valuations that the melissa linked cultivation to the lettuce obtained the greatest output, fresh matter and dry matter. The smaller values of all variables was observed in melissa in single cultivation. To the the Effective Land Use (ELU), the yarrow and lettuce linking cultivated to the melissa generated good species biomass output, because the calculated results to the plants were higher than 1,0. The species linking cultivation did not interfere significantly in melissa's essential oil content.
