Palicourea tomentosa (Aubl.) Borhidi (Rubiaceae, Palicoureeae), earlier classified as Psychotria poeppigiana Müll. Arg., is used in folk medicine for a variety of diseases. Biological studies on the plant describes their vasorelaxant, antiplasmodial, antitumoural and anticholinesterase activities. To expand the knowledge on the chemical and biological potential of this species, in this work, phytochemical and dereplication studies, as well as antimicrobial and anticholinesterase evaluation of Palicourea tomentosa were carried out. Phytochemical investigation deals with the isolation of lutein (1), a mixture of dehydrovomifoliol (2) and megastigma-4,7-dien-3-one (3), loliolide (4), 5,13-epoxy-9-hydroxy-megastigma-7-en,3-one (5), vomifoliol (6), asperuloside (7), 3-O-p-coumaroylquinic acid (8), and a mixture of the pyrrolizidinoindoline alkaloids hodgkinsine (9), chimonanthine (10) and psychotriasine (11). The ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled to high-resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC HRMS/MS) based on molecular networking dereplication of dichloromethane fraction led to putative identification of other two megastigmanes, one terpene lactone and three carotenoids, besides seven triterpenes and four indole alkaloids. The dichloromethane, ethyl acetate and hydromethanol fractions of P. tomentosa were able to inhibit Candida albicans with minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of 125, 250 and 125 µg mL-1, respectively. ABSTRACT: Osteology plays an indispensable role in understanding the normal patterns of different species, serving as the foundation for zoological understanding. Mazama nana is well-known in Brazil; however, basic morphological descriptions of the species are scarce, while Subulo gouazoubira, currently revalidated as Mazama gouazoubira, is also prevalent in Brazil and has recently been the subject of various phylogenetic studies. In this respect, in the present study, 19 cervid heads (16 Subulo gouazoubira and three Mazama nana) were osteologically prepared. Next, computed tomographies (CTs) were performed to enhance the assessment of bone accidents, as well as internal structures and foramina through three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction techniques due to the difficult visibility in intact specimens. RESUMO: A osteologia desempenha um papel indispensável para o conhecimento dos padrões de normalidade das diversas espécies, sendo a base para o entendimento zoológico. Mazama nana é bastante conhecido no Brasil, porém descrições morfológicas básicas acerca da espécie são escassas, enquanto Subulo gouazoubira, revalidação atual de Mazama gouazoubira, também é incidente no Brasil e, atualmente, tem sido alvo de diversos estudos filogenéticos. Nesse escopo, no presente estudo, foram preparadas, osteologicamente, 19 cabeças de cervídeos (16 Subulo gouazoubira e três Mazama nana) e, em seguida, tomografias computadorizadas (TCs) foram realizadas a fim de aprimorar as formas de avaliação de acidentes ósseos, além de estruturas internas e forames mediante técnicas de reconstrução em três dimensões (3D) devido a difícil visibilidade em peças intactas. Resumo Este estudo analisa a estratégia da Secretaria de Estado de Energia e Economia do Mar (SEENEMAR) no fomento da economia azul no Estado do Rio de Janeiro (ERJ), com foco na sustentabilidade ambiental e social. A análise dos projetos, como o Polo Naval Pesqueiro e a energia eólica offshore, revela contribuições significativas para o crescimento econômico, sustentabilidade ambiental e inclusão social. A SEENEMAR demonstrou eficácia na geração de empregos, atração de investimentos e descarbonização, além de promover a inclusão social através de programas de capacitação e valorização da gastronomia do mar. No entanto, a falta de uma definição formal de economia do mar a nível federal pode limitar a expansão dessas iniciativas. Este estudo sugere que a continuidade e o sucesso das políticas da SEENEMAR dependem de monitoramento constante e ajustes baseados em dados empíricos.

Abstract This study analyzes the strategy of the State Secretary of Energy and Sea Economy (SEENEMAR) in promoting the blue economy in the State of Rio de Janeiro (ERJ), focusing on environmental and social sustainability. The analysis of projects, such as the Fishery Naval Hub and offshore wind energy, reveals significant contributions to economic growth, environmental sustainability, and social inclusion. SEENEMAR has shown effectiveness in job creation, attracting investments, and decarbonization, as well as promoting social inclusion through training programs and valuing sea gastronomy. However, the lack of a formal blue economy definition at the federal level may limit the expansion of these initiatives. This study suggests that the continuity and success of SEENEMAR's policies depend on constant monitoring and adjustments based on empirical data.

Abstract Objective: To examine if the substitution of different screen time intervals with light physical activity (LPA), moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and sleep is associated with cardiovascular indicators and inflammatory markers in children. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study developed with 186 children aged between six and 11 years old from public schools in southern Brazil. CRF was measured with the 6-minute running and walking test, following the Brazil Sports Project procedures. The percentage of fat was evaluated through DXA. LPA and MVPA were measured using accelerometers. Sleep and screen time were assessed by questionnaires answered by parents. Leptin and C-reactive protein were measured by fasting blood collection. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure were determined through a digital sphygmomanometer. Isotemporal substitution models were used for statistical analysis. Results: Replacing 1 h of screen time with MVPA was associated with lower BMI, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, fat percentage, leptin, and C-reactive protein. When screen time was substituted for sleep time, lower waist circumference was observed. Regarding the substitution of 1 h of screen time with LPA, significant values were found only for leptin. Conclusion: The replacement of screen time with physical activities of different intensities and sleep time was associated with benefits in cardiovascular indicators and inflammatory markers in childhood. RESUMO: O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a eficácia clínica da aplicação intra-articular de células-tronco mesenquimais alógenas derivadas do tecido adiposo (AD-CTM) no tratamento de cães portadores de osteoartrite secundária a displasia do coxofemoral (DCF). Doze cães de ambos os sexos, diferentes raças, idades e peso, portadores de graus variados de DCF comprovada em radiografia e livres de quaisquer outras alterações clínicas ou ortopédicas, foram utilizados no estudo. Todos os cães foram submetidos a avaliação ortopédica nos dias 0, 30, 60 e 90 após aplicação de AD-CTM na dose de 2 x 106. Além disso, os tutores preencheram a um questionário, baseado no Índice de dor crônica de Helsinque (IDCH) nos mesmos intervalos. ABSTRACT: This study assessed the efficacy of an intra-articular injection of allogeneic adipose tissue-derived from mesenchymal stem cells (AD-MSCs) for the treatment of hip dysplasia in dogs. The study group included 12 otherwise healthy dogs of different breeds, ages, weights, and degrees of hip dysplasia diagnosed using radiography. An orthopedic assessment was performed on all dogs before and at 30, 60, and 90 days after infusion of AD-MSCs(2 × 106cells). On the same days, each dog’s owner answered a questionnaire based on theHelsinkiChronic Pain Index. The data were converted to ordinal data based on the score for each variable, and the Friedman test for multiple comparisons was used to verify the results. Compared with the corresponding values on day 0, orthopedic and gait assessments and owners’ reported pain indexes improved over the 90-day observation period. Abstract Large quantities of residual cooking oil are being increasingly generated in various sectors, as it is often improperly disposed of and causes serious environmental problems. A commonly used alternative is the use of lipases in enzymatic hydrolysis, since it is rather attractive to several sectors, in addition to allowing the use of products generated thereof, such as: free fatty acids, diacylglycerols, monoacylglycerols and free glycerol, moreover, it is capable of operating in mild temperature and pressure conditions. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate alternatives for the hydrolysis of residual frying oil by evaluating the efficiency of different types of supports and heating systems using free and immobilized forms of lipase from Burkholderia cepacia (BCL) and Porcine pancreas (PPL) as biocatalyst. Polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB), niobium oxide (Nb2O5) and chitosan (CHIT) were evaluated as support for immobilizing BCL and PPL lipases, and superior results were found regarding the hydrolytic activity of immobilization derivatives using PHB and Nb2O5. Among the heating systems under evaluation, the highest percentage of residual oil hydrolysis was found using the ultrasound system for both free and immobilized lipases, reaching 57.91% hydrolysis for lipases immobilized on Nb2O5 and 61.11% hydrolysis for the derivative immobilized on PHB. ABSTRACT Wild birds have great prominence in the transmission of diseases to humans, mainly due to their ease of access to human populations, raising concerns about the potential impact of that proximity on public health. The present study reports ARV and PBV occurrence in wild birds from an environmental protection area in the Amazon biome, in Pará state, Brazil. We obtained 155 fecal specimens from 47 species of wild birds for RNA extraction, ARV and PBV detection utilizing molecular methods, nucleotide sequencing, and phylogenetic analysis. ARV prevalence was 0.6% (1/155), being positive in an individual of Myrmotherula longipennis, and PBV prevalence was 1.29% (2/155), affecting two individuals of Guira guira. The PBV strains were assigned to genogroup I based on phylogenetic analysis, and they shared a strong phylogenetic link with strains isolated from different geographic locations. The ARV strain was more closely related to strains that had previously circulated in the same region. The presence of ARV and PBV in this habitat suggests that infection cycles of these agents occur naturally in the wild ecosystem, potentially triggering transmission events between bird species and humans. RESUMO As aves silvestres têm grande destaque na transmissão de doenças ao homem, principalmente pela facilidade de acesso à população humana, levantando preocupações sobre o potencial impacto dessa proximidade no contexto da saúde pública. O presente estudo relata a ocorrência de ARV e PBV em aves silvestres de uma área de proteção ambiental no bioma Amazônico. Obtivemos 155 espécimes fecais de 47 espécies de aves silvestres, que foram submetidos a extração de RNA, detecção de ARV e PBV por técnicas moleculares, sequenciamento nucleotídico e análise filogenética. A prevalência de infecção por ARV foi 0,6% (1/155), sendo positivo em um indivíduo de Myrmotherula longipennis, e a prevalência de PBV foi 1,29% (2/155), afetando dois insdivíduos de Guira guira. ABSTRACT The World Health Organization developed the "iSupport for Dementia" program for family caregivers of people with dementia. Objective: To explore studies on adaptation, randomized clinical trial protocols, and preliminary results of iSupport by unpaid caregivers of people living with dementia in different countries. Methods: Systematic review. Results: Ten cultural adaptation studies, eight randomized clinical trial protocols, and two preliminary results were included. Adaptation studies showed adjustments in terminology, design, and additional resources. Clinical trial protocols included burden as the primary outcome, and baseline, three months of intervention, and follow-up after six months. RESUMO A Organização Mundial da Saúde desenvolveu o programa "iSupport for Dementia" para cuidadores familiares de pessoas com demência. Objetivo: Explorar estudos sobre adaptação, protocolos de ensaio clínico randomizado e resultados preliminares do "iSupport" por cuidadores não remunerados de pessoas que vivem com demência em diferentes países. Métodos: Revisão sistemática. Resultados: Foram incluídos dez estudos de adaptação cultural, oito protocolos de Ensaio Clínico Randomizado e dois resultados preliminares. Os estudos de adaptação apresentaram os ajustes nas terminologias, design e recursos adicionais. Abstract An evaluation was made of the larvicidal efficacy of lotilaner (Credeli®) in the treatment of dogs naturally infested with Dermatobia hominis larvae. A total of 12 dogs presenting at least three live D. hominis larvae were medicated. The animals were medicated orally with a single dose of no less than 20 mg/kg lotilaner. After drug administration, the animals remained at their homes, and observations were made to verify the larvicidal effect 6 hours after treatment. Live larvae were considered any parasite that exhibited motility after removal. For each animal was using the formula: 100 x [(total of live larvae before treatment − total live larvae after treatment) /total of live larvae before treatment] as criteria for evaluating lotilaner efficacy. A total of 98 larvae were counted in 12 dogs, with an average of 8.1 larvae per animal. The effectiveness of lotilaner was 80.6%. Nineteen larvae were found alive, albeit presenting hypomobility and lethargic behavior. However, note that the evaluation was performed just six hours after administration of the drug. Após a administração desse medicamento, os animais permaneceram em seus domicílios, e foram feitas observações para verificar o efeito larvicida 6 horas após o tratamento. Larvas vivas foram consideradas quaisquer parasitas que exibissem motilidade após a remoção. ABSTRACT Objective: the study aimed to evaluate maternal-fetal attachment, childhood traumas, and character strengths in women who used crack during pregnancy admitted to a public hospital in Porto Alegre. Methods: twenty-four pregnant women were interviewed, in a cross-sectional design, and were applied the instruments: Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ), Maternal-Fetal Attachment Scale and the Characters Strenghts Scale. Results: a medium or high degree of maternal-fetal attachment and a high frequency of childhood traumas was found, standing out emotional abuse and physical neglect. There was no significant association between maternal-fetal bonding and the occurrence of trauma in childhood. The character strengths that obtained the highest scores among the pregnant women were bravery, authenticity and love. Conclusion: despite the adverse conditions, it was observed that the pregnant women had a high maternal-fetal attachment. Identifying the strengths that stood out may contribute to the more effective treatment of these women, this being a good strategy in the planning of public health policies. RESUMO Objetivos: o estudo buscou avaliar o apego materno-fetal, os traumas na infância e as forças de caráter em mulheres que fizeram uso de crack durante a gestação, internadas em hospital público, em Porto Alegre. Métodos: foram entrevistadas 24 gestantes, em um delineamento transversal, e aplicados os instrumentos: Questionário sobre Traumas na Infância, Escala de Apego Materno-Fetal e Escala de Forças e Virtudes. Resultados: foi encontrado um grau médio ou alto de apego materno-fetal e alta frequência de traumas sofridos na infância, destacando-se abuso emocional e negligência física. Não houve associação significativa entre o vínculo materno fetal e a ocorrência de traumas na infância. As forças de caráter com maior escore foram: bravura, autenticidade e amor. Conclusões: Apesar das condições adversas, foi observado que as gestantes tinham um elevado apego materno-fetal. A identificação das forças de caráter que se destacaram pode ajudar para um tratamento mais efetivo dessas mulheres, sendo esta uma boa estratégia no planejamento de políticas de saúde pública. ABSTRACT Rickettsiosis is a disease caused by bacteria belonging to the genus Rickettsia, and is a potentially fatal zoonotic disease of great medical and veterinary importance. Given the urgent need to develop new diagnostic methods for detecting this disease, the present review aimed to evaluate the number of publications dedicated to the identification of Rickettsia spp. in human samples using molecular methods, such as polymerase chain reaction and its variations. ABSTRACT Currently, COVID-19 and tuberculosis (TB) are the deadliest infectious diseases worldwide. Their synergy, form of presentation, morbidity, and mortality are data that have been scarcely explored. Thus, this study aimed to characterize the clinical, epidemiological, and laboratory factors of this co-infection and to analyze the factors associated with the active TB among COVID-19 cases. A case-control study was conducted with a retrospective survey of 21 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19/TB co-infected patients (case group) and 21 COVID-19 patients (control group). The study included participants from eight hospitals in Campo Grande city, capital of Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil, from March 2020 to March 2022. Association analysis and binomial logistic regression were employed with statistical significance set at p≤0.05. From the 21 identified cases of COVID-19/TB co-infection, we found a more frequent association with HIV infection than the control-group, without worsening the outcome. COVID-19/TB patients had less dyspnea and less need for mechanical ventilation compared to the cases with COVID-19 only. On the other hand, COVID-19/TB patients had higher levels of C-reactive protein and lower hemoglobin levels, the latter variable was independently associated with COVID-19/TB. Among the clinical differences presented among COVID-19/TB co-infected patients, despite the association with HIV and lower clinical repercussions, only lower hemoglobin levels were associated with COVID-19/TB. Abstract The objective was to evaluate the oxidative stability of flaxseed cake and its inclusion in the diet of lactating cows, on milk production and composition and blood parameters (total cholesterol, triglycerides, high density lipoprotein -HDL and low density lipoprotein - LDL). Oxidative stability was evaluated by acidity index (AI) and peroxides (PI), determined from day zero to the ninth day of storage. Eighteen crossbreed Holstein x Jersey cows were used, nine animals per treatment (without and with the inclusion of cake). The experimental design was completely randomized, with two treatments and nine replications. There was an increase in PI during the first six days of storage, followed by a decrease on the ninth day.
