RESUMO Objetivo: Identificar as características das calcificações torácicas na ressonância magnética (RM) e as correlações entre os achados de RM e TC. Métodos: Estudo retrospectivo no qual foram analisados dados referentes a 62 pacientes que foram submetidos a TC e RM de tórax em sete hospitais nos estados do Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo e Rio de Janeiro entre março de 2014 e junho de 2016 e que apresentaram calcificações na TC. As imagens de RM ponderadas em T1 e T2 (doravante denominadas T1 e T2) foram analisadas semiquantitativamente, e a razão entre a intensidade do sinal da lesão e do músculo (LMSIR, do inglês lesion-to-muscle signal intensity ratio) foi estimada. Diferenças entre lesões neoplásicas e não neoplásicas foram analisadas. Resultados: Foram analisadas 84 lesões calcificadas. A média de densidade das lesões na TC foi de 367 ± 435 UH. A mediana da LMSIR foi de 0,4 [intervalo interquartil (II): 0,1-0,7] em T1 e 0,2 (II: 0,0-0,7) em T2. A maioria das lesões mostrou-se hipointensa em T1 e T2 [n = 52 (61,9%) e n = 39 (46,4%), respectivamente]. Além disso, 19 (22,6%) foram indetectáveis em T1 (LMSIR = 0) e 36 (42,9%) foram indetectáveis em T2 (LMSIR = 0). Finalmente, 15,5% mostraram-se hiperintensas em T1 e 9,5% mostraram-se hiperintensas em T2. A mediana da LMSIR foi significativamente maior nas lesões neoplásicas do que nas não neoplásicas. Houve uma correlação negativa muito fraca e estatisticamente insignificante entre a densidade das lesões na TC e as seguintes variáveis: intensidade do sinal em T1, LMSIR em T1 e intensidade do sinal em T2 (r = −0,13, p = 0,24; r = −0,18, p = 0,10 e r = −0,16, p = 0,16, respectivamente). A densidade das lesões na TC apresentou correlação fraca, porém significativa com a LMSIR em T2 (r = −0,29, p < 0,05). Conclusões: As calcificações torácicas apresentam intensidade de sinal variável em T1 e T2; em alguns casos, mostram-se hiperintensas. A densidade da lesão na TC aparentemente correlaciona-se negativamente com a intensidade do sinal da lesão na RM.

ABSTRACT Objective: To identify the characteristics of thoracic calcifications on magnetic resonance (MR) imaging, as well as correlations between MR imaging and CT findings. Methods: This was a retrospective study including data on 62 patients undergoing CT scans and MR imaging of the chest at any of seven hospitals in the Brazilian states of Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo, and Rio de Janeiro between March of 2014 and June of 2016 and presenting with calcifications on CT scans. T1- and T2-weighted MR images (T1- and T2-WIs) were semiquantitatively analyzed, and the lesion-to-muscle signal intensity ratio (LMSIR) was estimated. Differences between neoplastic and non-neoplastic lesions were analyzed. Results: Eighty-four calcified lesions were analyzed. Mean lesion density on CT was 367 ± 435 HU. Median LMSIRs on T1- and T2-WIs were 0.4 (interquartile range [IQR], 0.1-0.7) and 0.2 (IQR, 0.0-0.7), respectively. Most of the lesions were hypointense on T1- and T2-WIs (n = 52 [61.9%] and n = 39 [46.4%], respectively). In addition, 19 (22.6%) were undetectable on T1-WIs (LMSIR = 0) and 36 (42.9%) were undetectable on T2-WIs (LMSIR = 0). Finally, 15.5% were hyperintense on T1-WIs and 9.5% were hyperintense on T2-WIs. Median LMSIR was significantly higher for neoplastic lesions than for non-neoplastic lesions. There was a very weak and statistically insignificant negative correlation between lesion density on CT and the following variables: signal intensity on T1-WIs, LMSIR on T1-WIs, and signal intensity on T2-WIs (r = −0.13, p = 0.24; r = −0.18, p = 0.10; and r = −0.16, p = 0.16, respectively). Lesion density on CT was weakly but significantly correlated with LMSIR on T2-WIs (r = −0.29, p < 0.05). Conclusions: Thoracic calcifications have variable signal intensity on T1- and T2-weighted MR images, sometimes appearing hyperintense. Lesion density on CT appears to correlate negatively with lesion signal intensity on MR images.

<sec><title>Introduction</title><p>Dizziness can be characterized as a balance disorder that causes discomfort, leading to several functional limitations. Currently, vestibular rehabilitation has been highlighted as a possible treatment.</p></sec><sec><title>Objective</title><p>Analyze the effects of completing a vestibular rehabilitation treatment protocol on quality of life and postural balance in patients with vestibular complaints, as well as to compare these effects between the patients taking or not taking antivertigo drugs.</p></sec><sec><title>Methods</title><p>A nonrandomized controlled trial was performed with 20 patients previously diagnosed with vestibular diseases. Information regarding vertigo symptoms, quality of life as assessed through the Dizziness Handicap Inventory, visual analog scale of dizziness, and stabilometry using force platform was collected. Patients were treated for 12 weeks by a customprotocol. The sample was divided into two groups according to the use (medicated group, n = 9) or not (control group, n = 11) of antivertigo drugs.</p></sec><sec><title>Results</title><p>There was improvement in quality of life (p < 0.001) and intensity of dizziness (p = 0.003) with the intervention. An improvement of postural balance was observed through functional tests. However, no statistically significant difference was noted in stabilometry. When both groups were compared, no statistically significant differences between the variations of the variables analyzed were found in the re-evaluation session.</p></sec><sec><title>Conclusion</title><p>Quality of life and postural balance are improved with intervention. However, this improvement is not associated with pharmacologic treatment.</p></sec>

No presente trabalho Trichodina reticulata e T. nobilis (Ciliophora: Trichodinidae) de peixes ornamentais de água doce cultivados no estado de Santa Catarina, Brasil são caracterizadas morfologicamente. A prevalência de infecção e uma lista comparative de medidas são discutidas. Foram examinados "platis" Xiphophorus maculatus (n = 35), "kinguios" Carassius auratus (n = 31), "guppys" Poecilia reticulata (n = 20), "molinésias" Poecilia latipinna (n = 6), "betas" Betta splendens (n = 2) e "espada" Chilodus punctatus (n = 1). Após a anestesia com solução de benzocaína, os peixes foram submetidos à avaliação parasitológca. Um total de 51,57% peixes estavam parasitados por Trichodina spp. Carassius auratus foi a espécie mais parasitada, seguida por X. maculatus e P. reticulata. Beta splendens, C. punctatus e P. latipinna não estavam parasitados por tricodinídeos. Duas species de Trichodina foram coletadas da superfície corporal dos peixes: T. nobilis foi encontrada em C. auratus, P. reticulata e X. maculatus e T. reticulata foi observada apenas em C. auratus. A importância do manejo adequado em cultivos de peixes ornamentais também foi discutida.

In the present work Trichodina reticulata and T. nobilis (Ciliophora: Trichodinidae) are morphologically characterised from ornamental freshwater fish culture in the State of Santa Catarina, Brazil. The prevalence of infection and a list of comparative measurements are discussed. We examined "southern platyfish" Xiphophorus maculatus (n = 35), "goldfish" Carassius auratus (n = 31), "guppy" Poecilia reticulata (n = 20), "sailfin molly" Poecilia latipinna (n = 6), "beta" Betta splendens (n = 2) and "spotted headstander" Chilodus punctatus (n = 1). After being anesthetised in a benzocaine solution, fishes were examined for parasitological evaluation. A total of 51.57% fishes were parasitised by Trichodina spp. Carassius auratus was the most parasitised species, followed by X. maculatus and P. reticulata. Beta splendens, C. punctatus and P. latipinna were not parasitised by any trichodinid species. Two species of Trichodina were collected from the skin of fish: T. nobilis was found in C. auratus, P. reticulata and X. maculatus and T. reticulata was only observed in C. auratus. The importance of adequate handling in ornamental fish culture are also discussed.

OBJETIVO: Analisar as variações anatômicas do ramo do nó sinoatrial, principalmente quanto ao número, visto que a escola japonesa relatou a presença de dois ramos em até 50% dos casos, fato que permitiria a compensação, em caso de oclusão ou secção de um dos ramos. MÉTODOS: O ramo do nó sinoatrial foi dissecado com o auxílio de lente de aumento com pala Normo Health, de 3,0 graus, em 50 corações fixados em solução de formol. RESULTADOS: Em 94% dos casos, havia um ramo do nó sinoatrial, classificado em dois tipos do lado direito: D1 (46%) - ramo do nó sinoatrial situado medialmente à aurícula direita; D2 (4%) - ramo do nó sinoatrial na face posterior do átrio direito; e três tipos do lado esquerdo: E1 (24%) - ramo do nó sinoatrial medial à aurícula esquerda; E2 (16%) - posterior à aurícula esquerda; E3 (4%) - na face posterior do átrio esquerdo. Cada tipo, exceto D2, era subdividido em a ou b, conforme o sentido do RNSA fosse, respectivamente horário ou anti-horário ao redor da base da veia cava superior. Em 4% dos casos, havia dois ramos do nó sinoatrial, originados de ambas as artérias coronárias. Em 2% dos casos, havia três ramos do nó sinoatrial originados, dois da artéria coronária direita e o terceiro, provavelmente de artéria brônquica. Em 30% dos casos, o ramo do nó sinoatrial formava um anel ao redor da base da veia cava superior. Em todos os casos, o ramo do nó sinoatrial forneceu ramos colaterais para o átrio e/ou a aurícula do mesmo lado e/ou do lado oposto à sua origem. CONCLUSÃO: A baixa freqüência de dois ramos do nó sinoatrial em indivíduos brasileiros, comparada à alta encontrada em japoneses, provavelmente seja variação associada com as diferentes origens étnicas.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the anatomical variations of sinuatrial nodal branch(es) of the coronary artery mainly regarding their number; a recent report from Japan claims the presence of 2 branches in up to 50% of cases, an occurrence that would permit adequate flow compensation in case of occlusion or section of 1 of these branches. METHODS: The sinuatrial nodal branch(es) of 50 human hearts fixed in formol solution were dissected with the aid of a Normo Health 3.0 degree visor magnifying lens, measured, and classified as to the origin, route, and number of branches. RESULTS: In 94% (n = 47) of cases, a single sinuatrial nodal branch was found. classified: (A) two right side types, R1 (in 46% of cases, n = 23), situated medial to the right auricle and R2 (in 4% of cases, n = 2), situated on the posterior surface of the right atrium; (B) three left side types, L1 (in 24% of cases, n = 12), situated medial to the left auricle, L2 (in 16% of cases, n = 8), situated posterior to the left auricle, and L3 (in 4% of cases, n = 2), situated on the posterior surface of the left atrium. Except for R2, each type was subdivided into 'a' or 'b' types, according to whether the sinuatrial nodal branch(es) occurred in a clockwise or counterclockwise orientation around the base of the superior cava vena. In 4% of cases (n = 2), 2 sinuatrial nodal branch(es) were observed with 1 branch originating from each of the coronary arteries. In 1 case (2%), 3 sinuatrial nodal branch(es) were found, 2 from the right coronary artery and the third probably from the bronchial branch of the thoracic aorta. In 30% of the cases, the sinuatrial nodal branch(es) formed a ring around the base of the superior cava vena. In all cases, the sinuatrial nodal branch(es) supplied collateral branches to the atrium and/or the auricle of the same side as its origin and/or to the opposite side. CONCLUSION: The low frequency of 2 sinuatrial nodal branch(es) in Brazilian individuals, compared to the higher frequency found among the Japanese, is probably due to a variation associated with ethnic group origin.

O trabalho foi conduzido para avaliação da presença de Listeria sp. e de fungos nas silagens de capim-Tifton 85 sem emurchecimento, com emurchecimento por uma e duas horas e sem emurchecimento com adição ou não de polpa cítrica (5,0% do peso verde). As amostragens foram efetuadas no momento da abertura do silo (80 dias da ensilagem), aos 15 e 30 dias após exposição ao ar, para avaliar os teores de matéria seca (MS), as alterações químicas (pH, N amoniacal, ácidos orgânicos) e a ocorrência de Listeria sp. e de fungos. Os dados foram analisados segundo o delineamento em blocos casualizados, em esquema de parcelas subdivididas (nas parcelas foram avaliadas as silagens submetidas aos tratamentos e nas subparcelas, os períodos de exposição ao ar), com quatro repetições. Observaram-se baixos teores de ácidos orgânicos e de N amoniacal decorrentes dos altos valores de MS, o que acarretou baixa formação de produtos fermentados e elevação do pH. A presença de Listeria sp. foi observada em 65,6% das amostras no momento da abertura dos silos e, destas, 10% foram positivas para Listeria monocytogenes. As silagens apresentaram baixa estabilidade aeróbia, tendo sido registrado aumento na ocorrência dos fungos Penicillium, Fusarium e Pithomyces com o prolongamento do período de exposição ao ar.

The experiment was carried out to evaluate the fermentation characteristics, Listeria sp. and molds occurrence on Tifton 85 silage no wilted, wilted for one and two hours and no wilted with or without citrus pulp (5.0 % of fresh forage). The samplings were taken at the opening of the silos (80 days after ensiling), 15, and 30 days after air exposition to evaluated dry matter (DM) content, chemical changes (pH, ammonia N, organic acids) and Listeria sp., and molds occurrence. Data were analyzed according to a randomized block design in split plot scheme, considering the silage on the plots, and periods of air exposure on the split plot, with four replications. Low contents of organic acids and ammonia N due to the high silage DM content that promotes low formation of fermentable products and high pH values was observed. The occurrence of Listeria sp. was observed in 65.6% of the silage samples at the opening of the silos and, from them 10% of these were Listeria monocytogenes. The silages showed poor aerobic stability, having been registered higher amount of Penicillium, Fusarium and Pithomyces occurrence, along the air exposition periods.
