ABSTRACT In this work, we sought to minimize electricity costs in the coffee bean drying process by carrying out the theoretical sizing of the economic viability of the Photovoltaic Power plant (PVP) ongrid used to supply a Dryer Unit (DU). The methodology consisted of adequate sizing of a PVP generation plant to promote the electric energy balance. It used economic indicators such as internal rate of return, discounted payback, and net present value. Two scenarios were considered: a pessimistic with DU use on-peak period; and an optimistic with full use of the DU during the off-peak period. It was considered local electricity tariff values, and the results indicated the economic feasibility for the PVP installation also the feasibility of the dryer use in both scenarios, there are no restrictions on operating hours. It can be concluded that it is essential to understand the Brazilian electricity bill legislation because only in this way is it possible to properly develop the on-grid photovoltaic power plant projects. The technical and economic parameters are inseparable and indicated that the electricity tariff should not exceed US$ 0.22 (kWh) -1 to ensure the photovoltaic power plants installation viability to supply DUs that remain in operation during on-peak periods.

RESUMO Objetivo: comparar o desempenho de universitários nos testes de resolução temporal, Gaps In Noise e Randon Gap Detection Test. Métodos: a população avaliada foi composta por 51 adultos, de ambos os sexos, na faixa etária de 18 a 35 anos, com ausência de histórico otológico e/ou audiológico, sem alterações neurológicas e transtornos de aprendizagem. Os procedimentos utilizados na pesquisa foram os testes Randon Gap Detection Test e Gaps In Noise, realizado a 40 dBNS. Resultados: os resultados demonstraram diferença estatisticamente significante na comparação entre o tempo de percepção dos intervalos de silêncio nos testes Randon Gap Detection Test e Gaps In Noise, para ambos os sexos. Não houve diferença estatisticamente significante com relação à orelha em que o teste Gaps In Noise foi iniciado. Os limiares de detecção do gap de silêncio no teste Gaps In Noise foram menores em milissegundos com relação aos limiares obtidos no Randon Gap Detection Test. Conclusão: há influência do sexo nos resultados do teste Randon Gap Detection Test, com melhor desempenho do sexo masculino. Para o teste Gaps In Noise, os critérios de sexo e orelha em que o teste foi iniciado, não influenciaram os resultados. A comparação entre os testes Randon Gap Detection Test e Gaps In Noise, para ambos os sexos, demonstrou melhor desempenho para o teste Gaps In Noise, com a percepção do gap em intervalos de tempo menores.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to compare the performance of adults on tests of temporal resolution, and Gaps In Noise Random Gap Detection Test. Methods: the population studied consisted of 51 students of both genders, aged 18 to 35, with no otologic and/or audiological history, without neurological and learning disorders. The procedures used in the research were Random Gap Detection Test and Gaps In Noise tests, performed at 40 dBSL. Results: the results showed statistically significant difference when comparing the perception of time intervals of silence Random Gap Detection Test and Gaps In Noise tests for both genders. There was no statistically significant difference regarding the ear in which the Gaps In Noise test was initiated. The detection threshold of the gap of silence at the Gaps In Noise test was lower in miliseconds in relation to thresholds obtained in Random Gap Detection Test. Conclusion: there is influence of gender on test results Random Gap Detection Test and Gaps In Noise, with best male performance. The ear and gender criteria did not influence the outcome of the Gaps In Noise gap detection test. The comparison between of both tests (Random Gap Detection Test and Gaps In Noise) demonstrated a better performance in Gaps In Noise test, with the perception of gap in smaller time intervals.

Resumo Foi realizada suplementação de folhas de oliveira na ração de frangos na quantidade de 5 e 10 g de folhas/kg de ração e acompanhou-se o desempenho dos animais durante seu crescimento. Depois do abate, as coxas e sobrecoxas foram coletadas e armazenadas a 4 °C (± 1 °C) por 12 dias. Os resultados mostraram melhor conversão alimentar dos frangos que receberam dieta suplementada com 5g/kg. As coxas e sobrecoxas dos frangos que receberam folhas de oliveira apresentaram melhor estabilidade microbiológica que o controle, em que 5 g/kg inibiu o crescimento de Staphylococcus aureus, aeróbios psicrotróficos e mesófilos e 10 g/kg inibiu o crescimento de Enterococcus spp., bactérias ácido láticas, coliformes termotolerantes e totais, Pseudomonas, Clostridium perfringens e Escherichia coli (p < 0,05). Os resultados indicam a possibilidade de uso de folhas de oliveira, como suplemento alimentar, com vistas à melhoria da qualidade microbiológica da carne de frango.

Summary Supplementation of broiler feed with olive leaves was carried out at the rate of 5 and 10 g of leaves/kg feed and the performance of the animals monitored during their growth. After slaughter, the thighs and drumsticks were stored at 4 °C (± 1 °C) for 12 days. The results showed better feed conversion by the chickens fed the feed supplemented with 5 g/kg. The thighs and drumsticks of chickens that received the feed supplemented with olive leaves showed better microbiological stability than the control treatment, 5 g/kg inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, psychrotrophic and mesophilic aerobes and 10 g/kg inhibiting the growth of Enterococcus spp, lactic acid bacteria, coliforms, Pseudomonas, Clostridium perfringens and Escherichia coli (p < 0.05). The results indicated the possibility of using olive leaves as a food supplement aimed at improving the microbiological quality of chicken meat.

Foi determinado o perfil sensorial de quatro amostras de salame tipo italiano, com adição de óleo essencial de coentro, pela metodologia fundamentada na Análise Descritiva Quantitativa (ADQ). A equipe sensorial definiu os termos descritores, os materiais de referência para o treinamento das qualidades e quantificações de cada um dos termos e a ficha de avaliação das amostras, de forma consensual. Doze provadores foram selecionados e rigorosamente treinados para compor a equipe definitiva, utilizando-se como critérios o poder discriminativo, reprodutibilidade e consenso dos provadores entre si. Foram gerados 12 termos descritores pelo método de rede. A intensidade de cada descritor foi avaliada em cada amostra por escala não estruturada de 10 cm. Os dados foram analisados por ANOVA, teste de Tukey e análise de componentes principais. O salame com óleo essencial de coentro (T3) apresentou menor sabor ranço e odor ranço, enquanto o controle (T1), apresentou valores altos para estes atributos sensoriais. Para brilho, T4 apresentou o melhor resultado. Para os demais atributos, T1, T2, T3 e T4 ficaram semelhantes.

The descriptive terminology and sensory prolife of four samples of Italian salami were determined using a methodology based on the Quantitative Descriptive Analysis (QDA). A sensory panel consensually defined sensory descriptors, their respective reference materials, and the descriptive evaluation ballot. Twelve individuals were selected as judges and properly trained. They used the following criteria: discriminating power, reproducibility, and individual consensus. Twelve descriptors were determined showing similarities and differences among the Italian salami samples. Each descriptor was evaluated using a 10 cm non-structured scale. The data were analyzed by ANOVA, Tukey test, and the Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The salami with coriander essential oil (T3) had lower rancid taste and rancid odor, whereas the control (T1) showed high values of these sensory attributes. Regarding brightness, T4 showed the best result. For the other attributes, T1, T2, T3, and T4 were similar.

Quatro formulações de salame tipo italiano foram produzidas: sem antioxidantes, com óleo essencial de coentro (0,01%), com BHT (0,01%) e outro com óleo essencial de coentro e BHT (0,005 e 0,005%). A atividade antioxidante dos salames foi avaliada pela oxidação lipídica, através das técnicas de índice de peróxidos e TBARS. O salame com o óleo essencial de coentro mostrou redução da oxidação lipidica e indicou aumento da vida útil do produto. O salame com óleo essencial de coentro e BHT, não mostrou sinergismo entre os antioxidantes. O salame utilizando BHT demonstrou menor atividade antioxidante que o salame utilizando óleo essencial de coentro.

Four formulations of Italian salami type were produced: without antioxidants; with essential oil of coriander essential oil (0.01%); with BHT (0.01%); and with Coriander essential oil and BHT (0.005 and 0.005%). The antioxidant activity of salamis was evaluated by the lipid oxidation, through the techniques of peroxide number and TBARS. The salami with the coriander essential oil exhibited reduction in lipid oxidation by increasing the shelf life of the product. The salami with the coriander essential oil and BHT showed no synergism between the antioxidants. The salami using BHT presented less antioxidant activity than that of the salami using coriander essential oil.

Foi avaliada a atividade antioxidante pelo Sistema β-caroteno/Ácido Linoleico, ensaio do radical DPPH• (2,2-difenil-1-picrilhidrazila), do extrato bruto (EB) e frações hexânica (FH), clorofórmica (FC) e acetato de etila (FA) das pimentas malagueta (C. frutescens), cambuci (C. baccatum var. pendulum), cumari (C. baccatum var praetermissum) e pimentão magali (C. annuum var. annuum). As concentrações de capsaicinoides e de fenólicos totais presentes nas pimentas também foram determinadas. Os resultados obtidos demonstraram que as FC e FA das pimentas apresentaram maior concentração de fenólicos totais e capsaicinoides, sendo que a pimenta cumari foi a espécie com maior concentração destes compostos. A melhor atividade antioxidante pelo Sistema β-caroteno/Ácido Linoleico, foi obtida para o EB e FA da pimenta cambuci, seguida do EB da pimenta malagueta. Pelo método DPPH a FC e FA apresentaram menores valores de EC50, sendo a pimenta cumari e cambuci as mais efetivas. Estes resultados demonstram que as pimentas cumari, cambuci e malagueta podem ser utilizadas como agentes antioxidantes naturais em alimentos.

The antioxidant activity was evaluated by the β-Carotene/Linoleic Acid System, DPPH• (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) radical assay, to the crude extract (EB) and fractions hexanic (FH), chloroformic (FC), and ethyl acetate (FA) of malagueta peppers (C. frutescens), cambuci (C. baccatum var. pendulum), cumari (C. baccatum var praetermissum), and pepper magali (C. annuum var. annuum). The concentration of total phenolics and capsacinoids present in the peppers was also determined. The results showed that the FC and the FA peppers showed higher concentrations of total phenolics and capsacinoids, and that the cumari pepper was the species with higher concentrations of these compounds. The best antioxidant activity according to the β-Carotene/Linoléico Acid System were obtained for the EB and the FA cambuci pepper, followed by the EB malagueta pepper. According to the DPPH method, the FC and FA showed lower values of EC50, and the cumari and cambuci peppers were the most effective. The results show that cumari, cambuci, and malagueta peppers can be used as natural antioxidant agents in food.

Mismatch Negativity é potencial endógeno que reflete o processamento de diferenças ocorridas no estímulo acústico. OBJETIVO: Caracterizar as respostas do MMN em sujeitos idosos, comparar com sujeitos adultos. MATERIAL E MÉTODO: Estudo prospectivo, com 30 sujeitos, 15 do gênero masculino e 15 do gênero masculino, com idade entre 60 e 80 anos e 11 meses. Teste estatístico Mann-Whitney. Os sujeitos passaram por avaliação médica e pelos exames de Audiometria Tonal Liminar, Imitanciometria, Emissões Otoacústicas e Potenciais Auditivos de Curta e Longa Latência (MMN). RESULTADOS: A latência média foi de 161,33ms (CZA2) e 148,67ms (CZA1), gênero feminino; de 171ms (CZA2) e 159,07ms (CZA1), gênero masculino. A amplitude média foi de -2,753µV (CZA2) e -2,177µV (CZA1), gênero feminino; de -1,847µV (CZA2) e -1,953µV (CZA1), gênero masculino. Quanto aos hemisférios direito e esquerdo, variável latência, média de 166ms (CZA2) e 153,87ms (CZA1); para a variável amplitude, média de -2,316µV (CZA2) e -2,065µV (CZA1). CONCLUSÃO: Não há diferença estatística significante entre as variáveis latência e amplitude, ao se comparar os gêneros masculino e feminino, os lados direito e esquerdo nos sujeitos idosos e entre as idades cronológicas adultos e idosos.

Mismatch Negativity is an endogenous potential which reflects the processing of differences incurred in the acoustic stimulus. AIM: to characterize MMN responses in elderly subjects and compare with adult subjects. MATERIALS AND METHODS: prospective study involving 30 subjects, 15 men and 15 women, aged between 60 and 80 years and 11 months. Statistical test: Mann-Whitney. The subjects went through medical evaluation, threshold tonal audiometry, immittance tests, otoacoustic emissions and short and long latency auditory potentials (MMN). RESULTS: mean latency was 161.33 ms (CZA2) and 148.67 ms (CZA1), in women; of 171 ms (CZA2) and 159.07 ms (CZA1), men. Mean amplitude was -2.753 µV (CZA2) and -2.177 µV (CZA1), women; -1.847 µV (CZA2) and -1.953 µV (CZA1), men. As to the right and left hemispheres, mean latency variable of 166 ms (CZA2) and 153.87 ms (CZA1); for the amplitude variable, mean value of -2.316 µV (CZA2) and -2.065 µV (CZA1). CONCLUSION: there is no statistically significant difference between the latency and amplitude when we compared males and females, right and left sides in the elderly and between chronologic ages between adults and elderly subjects.
