Resumo O Bioma Caatinga inclui uma flora predominantemente xerófila, cujas características estão ligadas às condições da região e compreende atividades que afetam diretamente os aspectos da caatinga, sendo uma delas a pecuária. Assim, o presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a Fitossociologia do componente arbóreo-arbustivo, bem como indicadores ecológicos, em duas áreas de Caatinga com históricos diferentes de uso, no Sertão Paraibano. Para isso, considerou-se duas áreas pertencentes à uma zona rural de Brejo do Cruz-PB, uma destinada à criação de bovinos há mais de 20 anos e outra sem atividades há 10 anos. Com isso, foram instaladas 40 parcelas de 25 x 10 m (250 m²) nas respectivas áreas, no qual foram amostrados indivíduos quanto à família, gênero e espécie e feita análise dos parâmetros fitossociológicos. Os indicadores avaliados foram: regeneração natural, serapilheira e entomofauna. Os resultados mostraram que as duas áreas apresentaram padrões semelhantes em relação à fitossociologia e diversidade, tendo como principais espécies Poincianella bracteosa, Mimosa tenuiflora e Aspidosperma pyrifolium. Quanto aos indicadores ecológicos, a regeneração natural e Entomofauna apresentaram resultados semelhantes para as áreas, enquanto a serapilheira apresentou diferença significativa entre as áreas, apontando maior valor para o ambiente conservado. Contudo, as áreas apresentaram padrões similares, indicando que a intensidade animal não exerceu diferença no período considerado.

Abstract The Caatinga Biome includes a predominantly xerophilic flora, whose characteristics are connected to the conditions in the region. It includes activities that affect directly the aspects of the caatinga, one of which is livestock. Therefore, this study aimed at evaluating the Phytosociology of the arboreal-shrubby component, as well as ecological indicators, in two areas of Caatinga with different history of use, in the drylands of the state of Paraiba. For this purpose, two locations belonging to a rural area of Brejo do Cruz-PB were considered one destined to the creation of cattle for over 20 years and the other without activities for 10 years. Thus, 40 lots of 25 x 10 m (250 m²) were installed at those areas, in which individuals were sampled according to their family, genus and species, and phytosociological parameters were analysed. The evaluated indicators were: natural regeneration, litter and entomofauna. The results showed that the two areas presented similar patterns, regarding phytosociology and diversity, where Poincianella bracteosa, Mimosa tenuiflora and Aspidosperma pyrifolium are the main species. As for the ecological indicators, the natural regeneration and Entomofauna both presented similar results for the areas, while the leaf litter presented a significant difference between the areas, indicating a higher value for the preserved environment. However, the areas showed similar patterns, indicating that the animal intensity did not exert any difference in the considered period.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar diversidade florística em diferentes altitudes na região do Araripe em Pernambuco, Brasil. Metodologicamente, a região foi estratificada em três níveis de altitude: inferior (até 600 m), intermediário (maior que 600 e menor que 750 m) e superior (igual ou maior que 750 m). Foram inventariados nove fragmentos florestais, três por estrato altitudinal. Em cada fragmento, distribuíram-se 20 unidades amostrais retangulares, de 250 m² cada, totalizando área amostral de 4,5 ha. Nas áreas amostrais foram quantificados, coletados e identificados todos os indivíduos lenhosos com nível de inclusão de circunferências a altura do peito (CAP) maior ou igual a 0,10 m (CAP a 1,30 m ≥ 0,10 m). Analisou-se, riqueza e similaridade florística entre fragmentos e níveis de altitudes. Foram amostrados 6.987 indivíduos, distribuídos em 35 famílias botânica, 82 gêneros e 153 espécies. A região apresenta grande riqueza florística, com variação entre e dentro dos três níveis altitudinais, com tendência de aumento na diversidade com a elevação da altitude. A maioria das espécies apresentaram pouca plasticidade fenotípica, com ocorrência e abundância restrita ao fragmento ou altitude. Em pequenas distâncias geográficas foram diagnosticadas relevantes variações fitofisionômicas, o que corrobora a importância da estratificação de altitudes e replicação de fragmentos na amostragem. Pelo nível de degradação antropogênica e a intensificação das atividades florestais da região, faz-se necessário e urgente a criação de políticas públicas voltadas para práticas sustentáveis no uso da floresta e seu processo de conservação. Para tanto, o negligenciamento a esta problemática, coloca em risco de extinção uma grande representação da diversidade vegetacional do nordeste brasileiro.

Abstract This work aimed to evaluate the floristic diversity at different altitudes in the Araripe region of Pernambuco state, Brazil. For method purposes, the region was stratified into three levels of altitude: inferior (until 600 m), intermediate (>600 and <750) and superior (≥750 m). Nine forest fragments were inventoried, three by altitudinal stratum. Twenty rectangular sampling units of 250 m² each were distributed for each fragment, totaling a sampling area of 4.5 ha. All woody individual’s quantification, collection, and identification were performed with respect to the Circumference at Breast Height (CBH) greater than or equal to 0.10 m (CBH at 1.30m ≥ 0.10m). The richness and the floristic similarity among the fragments and altitude levels were analyzed. A total of 6,987 individuals were sampled and distributed in 35 botanical families, 82 genera and 153 species. The region presented great floristic richness, with variation among and within the three altitudinal levels and the diversity demonstrated to increase with the altitude. Most species exhibited little phenotypic plasticity, with occurrence and abundance restricted to the fragment or the altitude level. At short geographical distances, relevant phyto-physiognomic variations were diagnosed, which corroborates with the importance of altitude stratification and fragment replication in the sampling procedures. Due to the level of anthropogenic degradation and the intensification of forest activities in the region, it is, therefore, necessary and urgent to create public policies aiming sustainable practices in forest use and its conservation process. To this end, the negligence of this problem puts at risk of extinction a large representation of the Brazilian northeastern vegetation diversity.

Resumo O banco de sementes no solo é um dos mecanismos de regeneração natural que contribui para o surgimento de espécies em áreas florestais ou degradadas, no entanto, a composição de espécies pode ser influenciada pelo histórico de uso da terra, pela matriz em que o fragmento está inserido, entre outros. O objetivo dessa pesquisa foi avaliar a composição florística, abundância e ecologia morfofuncional de plântulas de espécies arbóreas encontradas no banco de sementes no solo em fragmento de Floresta Tropical. Foram retiradas amostras de solos e levadas para o viveiro florestal e cobertas por tela sombrite 70%. As plântulas emergidas foram contadas, identificadas e classificadas quanto à síndrome de dispersão, grupo sucessional e ecologia morfofuncional dos cotilédones. Emergiram 3.441 plântulas, em 14 famílias e 28 morfoespécies. Predominaram Miconia prasina e Cecropia pachystachya com 22,20 e 17,78%, respectivamente; a síndrome zoocórica com 64%; houve predominância de espécies secundárias iniciais, seguida de pioneiras. 78% das plântulas são do tipo PEF (fanero-epígeo-foliáceo). Embora o remanescente esteja inserido em uma matriz agrícola possui uma média riqueza de espécies arbóreas no banco de sementes, sendo a maioria das espécies classificadas como fanero-epígeo-foliáceo, demonstrando a dinâmica e capacidade de autorregeneração da área estudada.

Abstract The seed bank in the soil is one of the mechanisms of natural regeneration that contributes to the emergence of species in forest or degraded areas, however, the composition of species can be influenced by the history of land use, by the matrix in which the fragment is inserted, among others. The objective of this research was to evaluate the floristic composition, abundance and morphofunctional ecology of seedlings arboreal species found in the soil seed bank in tropical forest fragment. Soil samples were taken and taken to the forest nursery and covered by shading screens 70%. The emerged seedlings were counted, identified and classified in terms of dispersion syndrome, successional group and morphological and functional ecology of cotyledons. 3,441 seedlings emerged in 14 families and 28 morphospecies. Miconia prasina and Cecropia pachystachya predominated with 22.20 and 17.78%, respectively; zoochoric syndrome with 64%; there were predominance of early secondary species, followed by pioneers. 78% of the seedlings are of the PEF type (phanero-epigeal-foliaceous). Although the remnant is inserted in an agricultural matrix, it has an average tree species richness in the seed bank, most species being classified as phanero-epigeal-foliaceous, demonstrating the dynamics and self-regeneration capacity of the studied area.

ABSTRACT Efficient forest species can be indicated for reforesting environments, which present nutritional restriction. The objective of this study was to determine the nutrient stock in leaf biomass of the species of greatest importance value (IV) in a tropical dry forest fragment, as well as to evaluate the nutritional efficiency of these species as reforestation indicators. A phytosociological study of the woody species was carried out defining the ten species with the greatest IV. Three individuals of each species were selected and sampled, with 25 leaves being collected from the middle part of the crown of each individual. The N, P, K, Ca and Mg contents were determined in these leaves and the leaf biomass was estimated by an allometric equation, calculating the stock of these nutrients and the nutritional efficiency of the species. The Schinopsis brasiliensis and Mimosa tenuiflora species can be recommended in environments with restricted P availability, and Spondias tuberosa can additionally be indicated to populate areas with low levels of K and Mg in the soil. Differences in the nutritional efficiency of the species can be attributed to the differences in the absorption and translocation capacity, as well as the utilization of these nutrients.

ABSTRACT The objective of this work was to evaluate the arboreal component of a Dense Ombrophilous Lowland Forest fragment through evaluations of richness, structure and diversity. For the sampling of this component, we implanted 40 sample units of 10 × 25 m. We measured all arboreal individuals who presented circumference at breast height ≥ 15 cm, 1.30 m from the ground level. The tree stratum presented 1324 individuals, 100 species, 64 genera and 38 families. The Fabaceae family had the highest wealth and Anacardiaceae was the most abundant. The Shannon index and Pielou equability were 3.60 nats.ind.–1 and 0.78, respectively, suggesting the existence of relevant ecological dominance in the community. The results of this work emphasize the ecological importance of this remnant for maintaining the local flora and fauna, also emphasizing the importance of preserving Atlantic Ombrophilous Forests, particularly in the Zona da Mata of Pernambuco.

RESUMO Mecanismos de regeneração natural são fundamentais para o restabelecimento das funções ecológicas de fragmentos florestais e de áreas degradadas. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a chuva de sementes e o estabelecimento de plântulas de espécies arbóreas em Floresta Atlântica, localizada na região Nordeste do Brasil. Para amostragem da chuva de sementes foram alocados 60 coletores (área de 0,196 m2), ficando equidistantes, aproximadamente, de 50 m. As coletas foram realizadas com intervalo de 30 dias por um período de 12 meses. Para avaliar o estabelecimento de plântulas foram alocadas subparcelas ao lado dos coletores, totalizando 60 subparcelas de 0,25 m2 cada. Os indivíduos arbóreos identificados pelos diásporos coletados na chuva de sementes e pelas plântulas estabelecidas no fragmento foram contados e classificados quanto à síndrome de dispersão e grupo sucessional. A chuva de sementes foi representada por 60 morfoespécies e 20 famílias botânicas. O grupo ecológico e a síndrome de dispersão predominante foram de espécies secundárias iniciais e zoocórica, respectivamente. Em relação às plântulas estabelecidas foram contadas 122 plântulas, sendo Tapirira guianensis L. com maior número de plântulas. A chuva de sementes apresenta potencial para manutenção da dinâmica florestal por apresentar alta riqueza de espécies que compõe a atual vegetação, sendo composta, predominantemente, por espécies que produzem frutos abundantes com dispersão zoocórica que servem de alimento para fauna. Enquanto poucas sementes germinam para formar o banco de plântulas, a maioria está contribuindo para formação do banco de sementes.

ABSTRACT Mechanisms of natural regeneration are fundamental for ecological function restoration in forest fragments and degraded areas. The present work aimed to evaluate the seed rain and the establishment of seedlings of arboreal species in the Atlantic Forest, located in the northeast of Brazil. For sampling of the seed rain, 60 collectors were allocated (area of 0.196 m2), being equidistant, approximately, 50 m. The samples were collected at intervals of 30 days for a period of 12 months. To evaluate the establishment of seedlings, subplots were allocated next to the collectors, totaling 60 subplots of 0.25 m2 each. The arboreal individuals identified by the diaspores collected in the seed rain and by the seedlings established in the fragment were counted and classified for the dispersion syndrome and successional group. The seed rain was represented by 60 morphospecies and 20 botanical families. The ecological group and the predominant dispersion syndrome were of early secondary and zoocoric species, respectively. In relation to the established seedlings, 122 seedlings were counted, being Tapirira guianensis L. with higher number of seedlings. The rainfall of seeds presents potential for the maintenance of the forest dynamics due to the high species richness that compose the current vegetation. Being predominantly composed of species that produce abundant fruits with zoocoric dispersion that serve as food for fauna. While few seeds germinate to form the seedling bank, most of them are contributing to seed bank formation.

RESUMO O remanescente florestal que compõe o Parque Estadual Dois Irmãos (PEDI) é considerado como um dos maiores fragmentos florestais urbanos do Brasil. Há relatos no Parque da ocorrência de frequentes quedas de árvores sadias em condições naturais na reserva, o que pode comprometer seu equilíbrio natural e sua função como fragmento florestal urbano. É provável que este fenômeno possa estar associado com características químicas e físicas dos solos que compõem o PEDI. A presente pesquisa teve como objetivo avaliar química e fisicamente os solos do PEDI, identificando, mapeando e analisando o solo nas áreas de ocorrência de queda das árvores no locus da pesquisa. Foram mapeados 12 pontos de coleta de amostras em área representativa do PEDI. Amostras deformadas foram coletadas nas profundidades 0-0,10 m; 0,10-0,30 m; e 0,30-0,60 m e amostras não deformadas foram coletadas nas profundidades 0-0,05 m e 0,10-0,15 m. Nas amostras deformadas determinaram-se todos os atributos químicos e parte dos atributos físicos. Em amostras não deformadas determinaram-se apenas atributos físicos. Os solos do PEDI apresentaram baixa fertilidade natural. Mostraram reação ácida e com elevadas concentrações de Al3+ até 0,60 m de profundidade, que podem formar barreiras químicas que prejudicam o crescimento das raízes das plantas e podem estar causando a frequente queda de árvores no Parque. Os solos foram, em sua maioria, classificados como de textura argilosa a muito argilosa, muito permeáveis ao movimento vertical e lateral de água. Apresentaram uma elevada variabilidade na condutividade hidráulica e redução abrupta de umidade volumétrica com aplicação de pequenas tensões em camadas superficiais, além de maior retenção de água pelo Latossolo em subsuperfície. Com a finalidade de ampliar as informações e criar um banco de dados para estudos futuros, sugere-se o monitoramento das espécies mais vulneráveis à queda, além de analisar outros elementos químicos e físicos do solo do PEDI, como a abertura de perfis para compreender a dinâmica das raízes pivotantes.

ABSTRACT The forest remnant that composes ‘Parque Estadual Dois Irmãos’ (PEDI) is regarded as one of the largest urban forest fragments in Brazil. There are reports of frequent occurrence of healthy fall trees in the park, in natural conditions, which may compromise its natural balance and its function as an urban forest fragment. Probably, this phenomenon is associated to the chemical and physical properties of the soils comprising PEDI. So, this research aimed to evaluate PEDI soils chemical and physically, identifying, mapping and analyzing the soils in the occurrence of falling tree areas at the research locus. Twelve points of sampling in a representative area of PEDI were mapped, where deformed samples were collected at depths 0-0.10; 0.10-0.30 and 0.30-0.60 m, and not deformed samples at depths 0-0.05 and 0.10-0.15 m. The chemical attributes and part of the physical attributes were determined in the deformed samples. And other physical attributes were determined in the undisturbed samples. The soils of PEDI were low in natural fertility. They have acid reaction and high concentrations of Al3+ to 0.60 m, and this can create chemical barriers that damage the growth of the plant roots and may be the cause of the frequent tree falling in the park. The soils were classified as clayed to very clayed, very permeable to vertical and lateral water movement. They had high variability in hydraulic conductivity and sharp decrease of water volumetric content in applying small stresses in surface layers as well as higher water retention by soil in Oxisol subsurface. In order to extend the information and create a database for future studies, it is suggested the monitoring of the most vulnerable species to fall, and analyzing other chemical and physical properties of PEDI soils, also opening profiles to understand tap root dynamics.

ABSTRACT The study aimed to estimate the concentrations and efficiency of biological utilization of Cu, Fe, Zn, and Mn and the leaf biomass of ten species in a hypoxerophytic Caatinga fragment, aiming to contribute to a more adequate choice of species for reforestation programs in the Brazilian Caatinga. The leaves of three trees of each species were sampled and the concentration of micronutrients was determined, estimating their content and efficiency of biological utilization. The efficiency of biological utilization followed the decreasing order: Mn > Cu > Zn > Fe. Jatropha mollissima and Spondias tuberosa were less efficient in the use of Fe and Senegalia paniculata and Croton blanchetianus, in the use of Zn. However, Piptadenia stipulacea and Mimosa ophthalmocentra were very efficient in using Fe and Mn. The nutritional efficiency of the species can serve as a criterion for choice of species in forest restoration programs.

RESUMO Analisou-se o padrão de distribuição espacial de Pentaclethra macroloba para auxiliar em planos de manejo e conservação desta espécie nas florestas de várzeas estuarinas. O estudo foi realizado em floresta de várzea de 55,95 ha, na cidade de Mazagão, Amapá. Foi realizado um censo e georreferenciamento de todos os indivíduos, vivos e mortos, que apresentavam a Circunferência na Altura do Peito (CAP) ≥ 30 cm. A Função K de Ripley foi utilizada para analisar o padrão de distribuição populacional, da mortalidade e das classes diamétricas. A relação da distância de inundação com a densidade e a área basal da população foi analisada utilizando regressão linear. Foram inventariados 993 indivíduos vivos e 22 mortos. A população obteve padrão agregado ao longo do gradiente topográfico de inundação. As classes de diâmetro 1 (≤ 13,2 cm) e 2 (≤ 18,6 cm) iniciaram com padrão agregado, finalizando com padrão aleatório. As classes 3 (≤ 24,0 cm) e 4 (≤ 29,5 cm) obtiveram padrão totalmente agregado e nas classes seguintes, 5 (≤ 34,9 cm), 6 (≤ 40,3 cm), 7 (≤ 45,7 cm) e 8 (≤ 51,2 cm) o padrão foi aleatório. O padrão da mortalidade foi aleatório. A densidade populacional foi 18 indivíduos h-1 e área basal de 49 m2 h-1 dos indivíduos vivos. A densidade (r2=0,51; p = 0,0195) e a área basal (r2 = 0,67; p = 0,0039) dos pracaxizeiros aumentam com o afastamento do gradiente de distância do rio. A dinâmica de inundação e o processo de dispersão são fatores relacionados com o padrão espacial e o sucesso no estabelecimento da espécie.

ABSTRACT We analyzed the spatial distribution pattern of Pentaclethra macroloba to assist in the development of management plans and conservation of this species in estuarine floodplain forests. The study was conducted in an area of floodplain forest of 55.94 ha, in Mazagão, Amapá, Brazil. A census was performed and all individuals of ≥ 30 cm circumference at breast height (CBH), living and dead, were georeferenced. Ripley’s K function was used to analyze the spatial distribution of the population, including mortality and diameter classes. The relationships between distance to the edge of inundation and density and basal area of the population were analyzed using linear regression. We recorded 993 live individuals and 22 dead. The distribution of the population was found to vary with the topographic gradient associated with the distance to the edge of the inundation. Diameter classes 1 (≤ 13.2 cm) and 2 (≤ 18.6 cm) were spatially aggregated close to the water and randomly distributed far from the water. Classes 3 (≤ 24.0 cm) and 4 (≤ 29.5 cm) were aggregated at all distances, and classes 5 (≤ 34.9 cm), 6 (≤ 40.3 cm), 7 (≤ 45.7 cm) and 8 (≤ 51.2 cm), were randomly distributed at all distances. Mortality was randomly distributed. The population density was 18 trees h-1 with a basal area of 49 m2 h-1, and both density (r2=0.51; p=0.0195) and basal area (r2=0.67; p=0.0039) increased with the distance from the edge of the inundation. We conclude that the spatial distribution and successful establishment of this species in floodplain forest are related to the dynamics of flooding and the resultant impacts on dispersal processes.

O estudo da estrutura e dinâmica da regeneração natural em sub-bosque de plantios com espécies exóticas, como as do gênero Pinus, possibilita dar informações para manejo, conservação e reestabelecimento das espécies nativas de uma comunidade vegetal. O objetivo deste trabalho foi identificar e quantificar a dinâmica da regeneração natural das espécies arbustivo-arbóreas ocorrentes no sub-bosque do povoamento de Pinus caribaea, na Rebio de Saltinho, em Pernambuco. Foram medidas as espécies regenerantes de 10 parcelas permanentes, de 1 x 50 m, e incluídos os indivíduos com circunferência na base a 30 cm do solo (CAB 0,30m) ≤ 15 cm e altura superior a um metro. A altura foi classificada em: Classe 1, indivíduos arbustivo-arbóreos, com altura 1 ≤ H ≤ 2; Classe 2 com altura 2 < H ≤ 3; e Classe 3, com altura > 3 m e CAP ≤ 15 cm. Calcularam-se os parâmetros fitossociológicos, a dinâmica da regeneração e os índices de Shannon (H') e a equabilidade (J') por Pielou. Protium heptaphyllum teve maior número de indivíduos e valor de importância (VI), e Miconia prasina a melhor frequência nos dois levantamentos. Quanto ao índice H' de 3,32 nats.ind-1 (2007) passou a 3,07 nats.ind-1 (2012), e a equabilidade de J' de 0,85 a 0,62, havendo decréscimo tanto para a diversidade, quanto para a distribuição. O levantamento de 2012 registrou aumento de 12,5% do número de indivíduos, e os regenerantes de 2007 tiveram 48,31% de mortalidade. Com relação ao número de indivíduos e área basal, os percentuais de ganhos foram superiores ao das perdas. Conclui-se que a sucessão ecológica da regeneração do sub-bosque do povoamento estudado, encontra-se em modificação positiva, e o povoamento de Pinus caribaea, não está impedindo o surgimento de novos indivíduos e espécies.

The study of the structure and dynamics of natural regeneration in the understory of plantations with exotic species, such as those of the genus Pinus, makes it possible to provide information to management, conservation and re-establishment of native species in a plant community. The aim of this study was to identify and quantify the dynamics of natural regeneration of woody tree species occurring in the understory of Pinus caribaea in Rebio of Saltinho, Pernambuco state, Brazil. Regenerating species were measured for 10 permanent plots, 1 x 50 m, and included individuals with circumference at the base to 30 cm from the ground (CAB 0, 30 m) ≤ 15 cm and height of more than one meter. The height was classified in: Class 1, shrubby tree, individuals with height 1 ≤ H ≤ 2; Class 2 with 2 height < H ≤ 3; and Class 3, with height > 3 m and ≤ 15 cm CAP. Phytosociological parameters were calculated, the dynamics of the regeneration and the Shannon index (H ') and evenness (J ') by Pielou. Protium heptaphyllum had as many individuals and value of importance (VI) and Miconia prasina the best frequency in the two surveys. How to index H ' of 3,32 nats. ind-1 (2007) went to 3,07 nats. ind-1 (2012), and the evenness of J ' of 0,85 to 0,62, and decrease for both the diversity and the distribution. The 2012 survey recorded 12,5% increase in the number of individuals, and the regenerating of 2007 had 48,31% mortality. With respect to the number of individuals and basal area, the percentage gains were greater than the losses. It is concluded that the ecological succession of understorey regeneration of the population studied, lies in positive modification, and the settlement of Pinus caribaea, is preventing the emergence of new individuals and species.

Neste trabalho objetivou-se avaliar o efeito de borda sobre o componente arbóreo em dois fragmentos de Floresta Atlântica na Bacia do Rio Tapacurá-PE. Para amostragemdo componente adulto, foram plotadas 15 parcelas de 10 x 25 m e subparcelas de 1 x 25 m para a regeneração. As parcelas foram dispostas em três ambientes, cada uma com cinco unidades amostrais, conforme distância da borda. As comparações entre os ambientes foram realizadas por meio da composição de espécies, Diagrama de Venn e análise de agrupamento. A maior riqueza foi observada na área mais distante da borda e o maior número de indivíduos próximo à borda. Na Mata da Onça, os ambientes mais distantes da borda foram similares, porém são diferentes em composição e em estrutura, quando comparados com o ambiente mais próximo da margem do fragmento. Contudo, na Mata da Buchada, os dois primeiros ambientes próximos à borda foram similares. A interação, entre o ambiente antrópico e o fragmento, causa efeitos sobre a comunidade arbóreas áreas mais limítrofes do fragmento.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the edge effect on arboreal component of two Atlantic Forest fragments, in the Watershed of Tapacurá River, Pernambuco. For the sampling of the adult component 15 plots of 10 x 25 m were plotted and subplots of 1 x 25 m for the regeneration. The plots were arranged in three environments, with five sampling units each, according to distance from the edge. Comparisons between the environments were performed by specie composition, Venn diagram and cluster analysis. The greatest richness was observed in the area farther from the edge and the greatest number of individuals near the edge. In the Mata da Onça, the farthest edge environments were similar, but different in composition and structure as compared to the nearest environment. However, in the Mata da Buchada the first two environments near to the edge were similar. The interaction between the human environment and the fragment affects the arboreal community in the fragment edges.

A serapilheira é uma das principais fontes de transferência de nutrientes para o solo, assumindo preponderância no processo de ciclagem de nutrientes em ecossistemas florestais. O trabalho teve por objetivo analisar a decomposição de uma mistura foliar de 10 espécies da Caatinga, em paralelo com a respiração edáfica. O estudo foi realizado no Sítio Riachão, localizado no Município de Pombal, PB. A taxa de decomposição foi determinada por medidas de perda de massa, com o auxílio de sacolas de náilon (288) que continham 10,0 g de folhas das espécies. A respiração edáfica foi mensurada através da liberação de CO2 com o auxílio de baldes plásticos durante turnos de 24 h. As coletas foram realizadas a intervalos de 45 dias. Ao longo de um ano de avaliação, foram decompostos 67% do material foliar. A respiração edáfica foi mais intensa no período noturno e em períodos em que houve maiores precipitações pluviométricas. A relação C/N foi relativamente baixa, indicativo de maior taxa de mineralização. A precipitação pluviométrica e outras variáveis ambientais são importantes fenômenos que influenciam a atividade dos microrganismos no solo, fazendo que se torne mais intensa a decomposição da serapilheira.

The litter is a major source of nutrients transfer to the soil, taking precedence in the process of nutrient cycling in forest ecosystems. The study aims to analyze decomposing of mixture of ten species of Caatinga in parallel with the soil respiration. The study was conducted at farm Riachão, located in the municipality of Pombal, PB. The rate of decomposition was determined by measurements of weight loss, with the aid of nylon bags (288) containing 10.0 g of leaves of the species. The soil respiration was measured through the release of CO2 with the aid of plastic buckets for 24-hour shifts. Samples were collected every 45 days. Over a year of the study, 67% of leaf material was decomposed. The soil respiration was more intense at night and during periods where there was more rainfall. The C/N rate is relatively low, indicating a higher rate of mineralization. The rainfall and other environmental variables are important phenomena that influence the activity of microorganisms in the soil, causing a more intense decomposition of litter.

Objetivou-se analisar a estrutura da regeneração natural das espécies lenhosas de área de caatinga no município de Floresta-PE com importância madeireira, buscando com informação para o manejo florestal sustentado dessa formação. O inventário florestal foi realizado em uma área de cerca de 50 ha com vegetação de caatinga na fazenda Itapemirim (8º30'37" S e 37º59'07" W), município de Floresta-PE. Em 40 unidades amostrais de 5 x 5 m, foram mensurados os indivíduos em quatro classes de tamanho: classe 1 = 20 - 50 cm; classe 2 = 51 - 100 cm; classe 3 = 101 - 150 cm; classe 4 = maior que 151 cm e menores que 6 cm de CAP. Em 37 parcelas, havia indivíduos dentro do nível de inclusão e foram identificadas 15 espécies pertencentes a sete famílias botânicas, destacando-se Euphorbiaceae, Anacardiaceae e Fabaceae. O Índice de diversidade de Shannon-Weaver (H') foi de 1,91 nats.ind.-1, o Índice de uniformidade de Pielou (E) igual a de 0,71. A área apresentou densidade estimada de 2.080 ind. ha-1. A distribuição espacial evidenciou as características da maioria das espécies, de ocorrerem agrupadas ou com tendência ao agrupamento. As espécies Bauhinia cheilanta e Poincianella bracteosa apresentaram maiores valores de densidade, além de estarem presentes em todas as classes de regeneração natural, constituindo indícios de que essas espécies apresentam potencial de se estabelecerem no local e serem as possíveis espécies dominantes quando chegarem à fase adulta.

This study aimed to analyze the structure of natural regeneration of economically important woody species of Caatinga in the municipality of Floresta-PE, assisting with information for sustainable forest management of the forest physiognomy. The forest inventory was conducted in an area of about 50 ha of savanna vegetation (8º30'37" S and 37º59'07" W), municipality of Floresta-PE. With 40 sampling units of 5 x 5 m, were measured the subjects into four classes: class 1 = 20 - 50 cm, class 2 = 51 - 100 cm, class 3 = 101-150 cm, class 4 = greater than 151 cm and less than 6 cm in circumference of the base height. In only 37 plots had individuals in the level of inclusion and were identified 15 species belonging to seven botanical families, especially Euphorbiaceae, Fabaceae and Anacardiaceae. The diversity of Shannon-Weaver index (H ') was 1.91 nats.ind.-1, the uniformity of Pielou index (E) equals 0.71. The area presented estimated density of 2,080 ind. ha-1. The spatial distribution showed that the characteristics of most species occur in group or with a tendency to grouping. The species Bauhinia cheilanta and Poincianella bracteosa showed higher density values and were present in all classes of natural regeneration, providing evidence that they have potential to establish themselves on the area and possibly will be the dominant species after reaching adulthood.

A Mata do Paraíso, em Viçosa, MG, é classificada como Floresta Estacional Semidecidual em estado avançado de regeneração. Na Zona da Mata de Minas Gerais predominam os Latossolos Vermelho-Amarelos e esta classe também é a mais recorrente na região de Viçosa. São solos, na sua grande maioria de baixa fertilidade natural. Dessa forma, procurou-se associar características dos solos numa topossequência estratificada em geoambientes ou pedoformas, denominados de Plano, Encosta, Ravina e Topo. Para isso, coletaram-se amostras de solos dentro de 40 parcelas, as mesmas utilizadas para caracterizar a vegetação. As amostras de solos foram retiradas nas profundidades de 0 a 20 cm, 20 a 50 cm e de 50 a 100 cm, em três pontos diferentes de cada parcela. Nas amostras de solos, efetuou-se a análise textural (TFSA), bem como o pH, carbono orgânico total, Ca, Mg, Al, K e P disponível e remanescente. A partir dos resultados calcularam-se a soma de bases (SB), a capacidade de troca catiônica total (T) e efetiva (t), a saturação por bases (V) e a saturação por Al (m). Considerando-se a vegetação como indicador ambiental, verificaou-se um maior número de espécies na Encosta (104), mas com plantas de menor porte e, em seguida, na Ravina (28), com árvores com DAP e alturas bem maiores. Na Encosta, o solo é mais pobre em nutrientes do que na Ravina e muito mais propenso à erosão laminar. Assim, supõe-se que a opção da natureza seria pela diversidade para melhorar a eficiência da reciclagem, coisa que as espécies estariam fazendo em seu próprio benefício. A pedoforma Topo apresenta muita restrição em nutrientes, o que limita, em parte, não somente indivíduos de tamanho e diâmetros maiores, bem como a própria diversidade de espécies. As espécies pioneiras, nesse caso, teriam papel fundamental na manutenção ou na "formação" da fertilidade desse geoambiente. Pela textura, foi possível separar nas três profundidades dois grupos: Plano e Topo apresentam texturas mais homogêneas e Ravina e Encosta mais heterogêneas.

The Mata do Paraíso is originated in regeneration, making up secondary vegetation whose typology is Semidecídua Estacional Forest. In the Zona da Mata from Minas Gerais State, the Latosols predominate and this category is, also, the most present in the Viçosa's region where the soils are, generally, nutritive poor. Thus, it was looked for associating some characteristics of soils from "Mata do Paraíso" in specified order to relationate them with the evolution of different kinds of toposequences, presents in the studied area, and the local arboreous vegetation. Samples were gathered inside the 40 parcels, the same ones utilized for the vegetation study. Samples weretaken away from 0 to 20cm, 20 to 50cm and 50 to 100cm of depth in three different points. TFSA textural analysis of the soil was performed, as well as, density of soil, pH, total organic carbonic, Ca, Mg, Al, K and P. Based on the results achieved, the sum of the basis was calculated (SP), the cationic change capacity (T) and effective (t), saturating for basis (V) and saturating for Al. The remainders P were also determinated. Using the vegetation as the best ambient indicator, it can be perceived more species at the hillside, but with small plants and, following, the Ravine, with bigger trees. On the Hillside, the soil is poorer than the Ravine's and more subordinate to laminar erosion. In this case, the natures' option would be increase the recycledefficiency by the diversity, what the species would be doing by its self benefit. The Top is too poor, that limits individuals of bigger size and diameter, as well as its self diversity. The pioneer species, in this case, would have a fundamental role in maintaining or in the "formation" of this soil fertility. The texture, it is perceived that is possible separating on the 3 depths, 2 ambient groups: on Plan e the Top present a texture more homogeneous and Ravine and Hillside more heterogeneous.

Os estudos de florística e fitossociologia contribuem significativamente para o conhecimento das formações florestais, visto que evidenciam a riqueza e heterogeneidade dos ambientes avaliados. O trabalho foi realizado em um fragmento de Caatinga hipoxerófila no Município de Arcoverde, PE, e teve como objetivo verificar a composição florística e parâmetros fitossociológicos das espécies arbóreas e arbustivas que compõem o fragmento. O estudo foi realizado em 40 parcelas de 10 x 25 m, sendo o nível de inclusão a circunferência a 1,3 m do solo com CAP > 10 cm. Foram estimados a densidade absoluta e relativa, a frequência absoluta e relativa, a dominância absoluta e relativa e o valor de importância; a diversidade específica foi dada pelo índice de diversidade de Shannon - Weaver (H') e equabilidade de Pielou, sendo determinada a distribuição hipsométrica em intervalos de 1 m e distribuição diamétrica em intervalos com amplitude de 3 cm. No levantamento florístico das adultas, foram encontrados 1.491 indivíduos vivos, distribuídos em 36 espécies arbóreo-arbustivas, 19 famílias e 31 gêneros. As famílias que mais se destacaram foram Mimosaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Anacardiaceae, Caesalpiniaceae e Rhamnaceae. O índice de diversidade de Shannon-Weaver foi de 2,05 nats/ind. e a equabilidade de Pielou, de 0,57. Nos sete parâmetros fitossociólogicos avaliados, as espécies que mais se destacaram foram Mimosa ophthalmocentra, Poincianella pyramidalis, Senegalia bahiensis, Senegalia paniculata, Croton blanchetianus e Mimosa tenuiflora, indicando ser essas espécies as mais bem adaptadas ao ambiente avaliado, tanto nas condições edafoclimáticas quanto na competição com as demais espécies presentes no fragmento de Caatinga em Arcoverde, PE.

The floristic and phytosociological studies contribute significantly to the knowledge of forest formations by showing the richness and diversity of the environments evaluated. This work was performed in a hypoxerophytic Caatinga fragment in the city of Arcoverde, Pernambuco state and aimed at determining the floristic composition and phytosociological parameters of tree and shrub species that make up the fragment. The study was conducted in 40 plots (10 x 25 m) with inclusion level the circumference at 1.3 m above the ground with CAP > 10 cm. The absolute and relative density, absolute and relative frequency, absolute and relative dominance and importance value were evaluated; species diversity was given by index of Shannon-Weaver (H') and equality of Pielou evenness, determining the hypsometric distribution at one meter intervals and diameter distribution at 3 cm intervals. In the floristic survey of adults, 1,491 individuals were found alive, distributed in 36 woody tree and shrub species, 19 families and 31 genera. Families that stood out most were Mimosaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Anacardiaceae, Caesalpiniaceae and Rhamnaceae. The diversity index of Shannon-Weaver was 2.05 nats/ind. and equality of Pielou evenness was 0.57. For the seven phytosociological parameters evaluated, the species that stood out were Mimosa ophthalmocentra, Poincianella pyramidalis, Senegalia bahiensis, Senegalia paniculata, Croton blanchetianus and Mimosa tenuiflora, indicating that these are the species best adapted to the environment assessed, both in environmental conditions and competition with other species present in the fragment of Caatinga in Arcoverde-PE.
