Abstract Background: The use of doxorubicin in chemotherapy has been associated with cardiotoxicity and heart failure. Physical exercise produces favorable morphofunctional adaptations in the cardiovascular system and may reverse cardiac dysfunction in patients undergoing chemotherapy. Objective: To assess the effects of physical training on myocardial structure, cardiac function, and exercise tolerance in Wistar rats initiated after the onset of cardiotoxicity-induced cardiotoxicity. Methods: This study investigated 30 adult male Wistar rats randomly divided into four groups: control (C), exercise (EX), doxorubicin (DX), and doxorubicin and exercise (DXEX). The DX and DXEX groups received six doses of doxorubincin from 1.25 mg/kg body weight up to a cumulative dose of 7.5 mg/kg. Injections were administered intraperitoneally three times a week for two weeks; after this stage, the EX and DXEX groups started physical training (swimming) sessions three times a week with a load of 5% of their body weight. Echocardiography and exercise tolerance tests were performed. Generalized linear models were used in statistical analysis, and a p<0.05 was set as statistically significant. Results: Left ventricular shortening fraction and ejection fraction were reduced in the DX group compared to C, EX, and DXEX. The DXEX group showed greater tolerance to effort when compared to the DX and C groups. Conclusion: Physical training, initiated after the onset of doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity, improved cardiac function and exercise tolerance in rats.

RESUMO A retomada às atividades odontológicas em tempos de pandemia tem sido um desafio devido à geração e dispersão de gotículas e aerossóis que podem conter o vírus SARS-CoV-2, agente etiológico da covid-19. Nos últimos meses algumas estratégias de contenção de gotículas e aerossóis tem circulado pela internet, mas a eficácia destas barreiras ainda não apresenta um bom nível de evidência na Literatura. Desta forma, e utilizando um modelo de dispersão microbiana, o objetivo deste estudo preliminar foi comparar a dispersão da alta rotação (AR) sem ou associada a uma barreira individual de biossegurança odontológica (AR / BIBO) que consiste em um bastidor acoplado ao filme de PVC e TNT. A turbina da alta rotação foi ativada durante um minuto em uma solução de Lactobacillus casei Shirota, a qual havia sido previamente acrescentada no reservatório de refrigeração de um equipamento odontológico, e placas de petri contendo ágar MRS foram posicionadas a partir do apoio de cabeça de uma cadeira odontológica nas distâncias de 50, 100 e 150 cm em diferentes ângulos (90 e 0 graus). Na distância de 50 cm, a média (desvio padrão) de L. casei Shirota para AR foi de 13.554,59 (493,48) UFC, enquanto a associação AR/BIBO foi de 570,67 (60,54) UFC, estabelecendo uma redução de 96% (p<0,0001). Considerando estes resultados preliminares e o modelo de estudo utilizado, a barreira individual de biossegurança odontológica se mostrou eficiente em reduzir a dispersão da turbina de alta rotação, o que sugere que o seu uso pode ser uma alternativa para a melhoria da biossegurança em ambiente odontológico.

ABSTRACT The return to dental practice in pandemic times is a new challenge due to the generation and dispersion of droplets and aerosols that may contain the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the etiological agent of covid-19. In the last months some droplet and aerosol containment strategies have been circulating on the internet, however, until now there is no evidence in the literature to prove the effectiveness of such barriers. Thus, using a microbial dispersion model with the fast handpiece, the aim of this preliminary study was to compare the dispersion caused by the the dental drill (DD) alone or in association with an individual biosafety barrier (IDBD / DD), which consisted of a layer of PVC film combined to a layer of polypropylene mounted on a frame. The dental drill was activated for one minute having had the water from the reservoir been replaced with a suspension of Lactobacillus casei Shirota. Petri dishes containing MRS agar were positioned at 50, 100 and 150 cm from the headboard of the dental chair at different angles (90 and 0 degrees). At 50 cm, the mean (standard deviation) of L. casei Shirota for DD was 13,554.59 (493.48) CFU, while for IDBD / DD was 570.67 (60.54) CFU (p <0.0001), establishing a 96% reduction. Considering these preliminary results, the individual biosafety barrier proved effective in reducing dispersion from the dental drill in this study model, which suggests that this barrier may be a viable option to optimize biosafety in the dental environment.

Resumo Vazões máximas e mínimas são fundamentais para a gestão dos recursos hídricos, especialmente para outorga de uso da água. Entretanto, a falta de monitoramento e a escassez de dados de vazão são fatores limitantes para tais estudos. Para contornar tal dificuldade, uma das ferramentas mais utilizadas é a regionalização de vazões. O objetivo neste estudo foi desenvolver modelos de regionalização para vazões máximas e mínimas de referênciapara a bacia hidrográfica do Rio das Mortes (MRB) (Unidade de Planejamento e Gestão dos Recursos Hídricos - GD2), sul do estado de Minas Gerais. As séries históricas de vazão de longo termo utilizadas foram disponibilizada pela Agência Nacional das Águas (ANA). Uma análise exploratório preliminar foi realizada, bem como a análise da estacionariedade das séries por meio do teste de tendências de Mann-Kendall. As Funções Densidade de Probabilidade (PDFs) com diferentes números de parâmetros foram utilizadas para estimar as vazões mínimas e máximas associadas a diferentes tempos de retorno e a performance foi avaliada por meio do teste de Anderson-Darling. A Generalized Extreme Values e Wakeby foram as distribuições mais apropriadas para vazões máximas e mínimas, respectivamente. O modelo de regressão para vazões foi ajustado utilizando como variável independente a área de drenagem das estações fluviométricas, sendo que os coeficientes de determinação obtidos foram superiores a 0,90. Desta forma, os modelos de regionalização demonstraram uma boa performance e são uma ferramenta potencial para ser utilizada na gestão dos recursos hídricos.

Abstract Maximum and minimum streamflow are fundamental for water resource management, especially for water rights. However, lack of monitoring and scarce streamflow data limit such studies. Streamflow regionalization is a useful tool to overcome these limitations. The study developed models for regionalization of the maximum and minimum reference streamflows for the Mortes River Basin (MRB) (Water Resources Planning and Management Unit - GD2), Southern Minas Gerais State. The study used long-term streamflow historical series provided by the Brazilian National Water Agency (ANA). Previous exploratory analysis was performed, and it was observed that the streamflow series are stationary according to the Mann-Kendall test. The estimation of the streamflow for different return periods (RP) was performed by fitting Probability Density Functions (PDFs) that were tested by the Anderson-Darling (AD) test. The Generalized Extreme Values (GEV) and Wakeby were the most appropriate PDFs for maximum and minimum streamflows, respectively. The streamflow models were fitted using a power regression procedure, considering the drainage area of the watersheds as inputs. The fittings reached the coefficient of determination (R2) greater than 0.90. Thus, the streamflow regionalization models demonstrated good performance and are a potential tool to be used for water resource management in the studied basin.

Abstract Although the conservation of tropical biodiversity depends on protected areas, there is still a very large ‘gap’ of knowledge on the flora of Brazilian reserves, especially in the Northeast region of Brazil. Field and herbarium surveys of the phanerogamic flora of the Ubajara National Park, located on the Brazilian Northeast, were made and analyses on phenology and dispersal syndromes were performed. 418 taxa (213 trees and shrubs, 100 terrestrial herbs, 68 climbing plants, 33 sub-shrubs, two epiphytes, one hemiparasite and one aquatic herb) were recorded. The most representative families were: Fabaceae, Malvaceae, Asteraceae, Rubiaceae and Euphorbiaceae. The annual flowering / fruiting peak hypothesis was not fully confirmed, therefore, the forest may be an important food resource for the fauna all year long (especially in the moister region). Zoochory was the predominant dispersal syndrome in the moister area, whereas, autochory and anemochory together, predominated in the drier area.

RESUMO Objetivo Estimar a frequência e caracterizar as interações medicamentosas potenciais entre fármacos psicotrópicos sujeitos a controle especial pela portaria 344/98 da Agência Nacional de Vigilância Sanitária (Anvisa), os quais foram prescritos e dispensados em uma farmácia pública do Município de Cascavel, Paraná. Métodos Estudo retrospectivo com desenho seccional foi realizado em uma Farmácia Pública Municipal. A amostra foi composta por prescrições de medicamentos sujeitos a controle especial, dispensados entre primeiro de julho a 31 de agosto de 2010. As prescrições retidas na farmácia foram analisadas retrospectivamente e as informações, coletadas. As interações medicamentosas potenciais foram identificadas em 824 prescrições. Resultados As prescrições eram na maioria para pacientes do sexo feminino e com idade entre 19 e 59 anos. Em relação à especialidade do prescritor, 30,6% foram prescritas por psiquiatra. Em 77,9% das prescrições identificou-se pelo menos uma interação medicamentosa potencial. Foram descritas 54 diferentes interações medicamentosas potenciais, sendo 34 graves e 20 moderadas. Encontrou-se uma correlação linear entre medicamentos prescritos e interações medicamentosas potenciais (p valor < 0,001). Conclusão O presente estudo identificou uma alta frequência de interações medicamentosas potenciais envolvendo fármacos de controle especial e uma associação positiva entre o número de fármacos prescritos com a maior frequência dessas interações.

ABSTRACT Objective The aim of this study was to estimate the frequency and classify the potential drug-drug interactions that occur between psychotropic drugs subject to special control by Decree Order 344/98 of National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa), which were prescribed and were dispensed in a public pharmacy of the Cascavel City, Paraná. Methods A descriptive cross-sectional study was performed in a public community pharmacy in a city of Parana. The sample was the prescriptions of drugs subject to special control, dispensed between day 1 July 2010 to 31 August of the same year. The prescriptions retained in the public pharmacy were retrospectively analyzed and the information collected. The potential drug-drug interactions were identified in 824 prescriptions. Results The prescriptions were mostly for female patients, with aged between 19 and 59 years old. Regarding the prescriber specialty, psychiatrist prescribed 30.6% of prescriptions. In 77.9% of them at least one potential drug-interaction has been identified. Fifty-four different potential drug interactions have been reported, with 34 serious and 20 moderate. There was a linear correlation between prescribed medication and potential drug interactions (p < 0.001). Conclusion The present study showed a high frequency of potential drug interactions involving special control drugs and positive association between the number of drugs prescribed as often these interactions.

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o comportamento da canafístula (Peltophorum dubium Spreg. Taub.) cultivada em sistema de minijardim clonal e estudar a viabilidade da aplicação da técnica de miniestaquia para a propagação vegetativa desta espécie. Na formação das minicepas, de origem seminal, mantiveram-se diferentes números de folhas (três ou mais, uma folha ou um par de folhas). Avaliou-se a sobrevivência das minicepas, número, comprimento e diâmetro dos brotos e a produtividade média de miniestacas por minicepa durante sucessivas rebrotas. Avaliou-se ainda o efeito da aplicação do AIB (0; 1500; 3000; 4500 e 6000 mg L-1) sobre a sobrevivência e o enraizamento de miniestacas basais e apicais. A sobrevivência das minicepas foi de 100% independentemente do número remanescente de folhas na sua formação. A manutenção de 1 folha possibilitou a formação de maior número de brotos (3,39) por minicepa; 1 par de folhas promoveu maior comprimento dos brotos (12,41 cm) e; 3 folhas ou mais originaram brotos de maior diâmetro. A produção média de miniestacas/minicepa/coleta foi crescente ao longo das sucessivas rebrotas, com máxima produtividade (159 miniestacas m-2) na 4ª rebrota. Miniestacas apicais apresentam maior potencial de enraizamento do que as basais. O AIB é dispensável na indução radicial, mas estimula a produção de massa seca das raízes. O manejo da canafístula em sistema de minijardim clonal possibilita a produção de brotos para processos de propagação clonal através da miniestaquia.

ABSTRACT The present work aimed to evaluate the behavior of canafistula, established in mini-clonal hedge system and the viability of applying the mini-cutting technique for vegetative propagation of this species. In the formation of mini-stumps, of seminal origin, different numbers of leaves were maintained (three or more leaves, one, or a pair of leaves). It was evaluated the survival of mini-stumps, number, length and diameter of shoots and average productivity of mini-cuttings by mini-stumps during the successive regrowth. The effect of the application of IBA (0, 1500, 3000, 4500 and 6000 mg L-1) on survival and rooting of basal and apical mini-cuttings were also evaluated. The mini-stumps survival was 100% regardless of the number of leaves remaining in its formation. The maintenance of one leaf allowed the formation of a larger number of shoots (3.39) per mini-stump, 1 pair of leaves promoted greater shoot length (12.41 cm), and with three or more leaves, the shoots had larger diameters. The average production of mini-cuttings/mini-stump/harvesting has been growing over the successive regrowth, with maximum yield (159 mini-cuttings m-2) observed on the 4th regrowth. Apical mini-cuttings show higher rooting potential than the basal. The IBA is dispensable in the radicial induction but stimulates the root dried mass. The cultivation of the canafistula in mini-clonal hedge system enables the production of shoots for clonal propagation through mini-cuttings.

RESUMO O desenvolvimento do sistema radicular do cafeeiro é alterado quando submetido à irrigação localizada e fertirrigação. Este trabalho foi desenvolvido com o objetivo de avaliar os efeitos de diferentes doses de fertirrigação sobre o desenvolvimento do sistema radicular do cafeeiro irrigado por gotejamento na região Oeste da Bahia. Realizou-se o trabalho na fazenda Café do Rio Branco, localizada em Barreiras - BA, em cafeeiros de aproximadamente 3,5 anos de idade, da variedade Catuaí IAC 144. O experimento foi montado em um esquema fatorial 3 x 3, sendo três níveis de adubação nitrogenada e potássica (900/800, 600/500 e 300/250 kg ha-1 ano-1 de N e K2O), em 3 parcelamentos mensais de fertirrigação (2, 4 e 8 vezes). Após a quarta safra, o sistema radicular do cafeeiro foi avaliado e a densidade de comprimento radicular (DCR) e densidade radicular (DR) em diferentes camadas amostradas foram determinadas. A maior concentração de raízes, densidade de comprimento radicular (DCR) e densidade radicular (DR) foi obtida nas camadas superficiais (0-20 cm) e sob a linha lateral (30 e 70 cm de distância do ramo ortotrópico). As menores doses de N e K2O propiciaram maior desenvolvimento (DCR e DR) do sistema radicular do cafeeiro.

ABSTRACT The development of coffee plant root system changes when subjected to drip irrigation and fertigation. This work aimed to evaluate the effects of different levels of fertigation on the development of coffee root system by drip irrigation in western Bahia. The experiment was carried out with Catuaí Vermelho IAC 144 coffee plants, of about 3.5 years of age, in the “Café do Rio Branco” farm, located in Barreiras - BA, and consisted of a complete randomized blocks design with 3 replicates. Treatments consisted of three levels of nitrogen and potassium fertilization (900/800, 600/500 and 300/250 kg ha-1 year-1 N and K2O), weekly distributed, by means of fertigation, throughout the process. After the fourth harvest, coffee root system was evaluated, and root length density (RLD) and root density (RD) were determined at different sampled layers. The highest root concentration, root length density (RLD), and root density (RD) were observed in the superficial layers of soil (0-20 cm), and under the dripline (30 and 70 cm from the orthotropic branch). Results showed that the lower the N and K2O levels, the higher was the development (RLD and RD) of the coffee root system.

RESUMO Materiais orgânicos submetidos a um processo de digestão anaeróbia, por meio de biodigestor, produzem biofertilizante que pode ser utilizado na agricultura como fonte de nutrientes. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de biofertilizante de dejeto líquido de suínos em atributos químicos do solo, na produtividade e no teor de nutrientes nas folhas e nos grãos de milho. O experimento foi realizado em condições de campo, de novembro de 2012 a abril de 2013. Empregou-se delineamento experimental em blocos ao acaso, com sete tratamentos em quatro repetições. Os tratamentos foram constituídos por doses de biofertilizante de dejeto líquido de suínos, 0; 40; 80; 120; 160; 200 e 240 m3 ha-1, aplicadas na superfície do solo, de uma única vez, no estádio fenológico V2 do milho. Aos 33 dias após a aplicação do biofertilizante foram coletadas, em cada parcela, amostras de solo. A colheita foi realizada aos 129 dias após a semeadura do milho. A aplicação de até 240 m3 ha-1 de biofertilizante de dejeto líquido de suínos, em solo com boas condições de fertilidade, não alterou os atributos químicos do solo e não influenciou na produtividade de milho. O uso de biofertilizante de dejeto líquido de suínos não afetou os teores de nutrientes no tecido foliar nem nos grãos de milho.

ABSTRACT Organic materials subjected to a process of anaerobic digestion in a digester produce biofertilizer that can be used in agriculture as nutrient source. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of pig slurry biofertilizer on soil chemical properties and on corn yield and nutrient concentrations in leaves and kernels. The experiment was conducted in the field from November 2012 to April 2013, and was arranged in a randomized block design with seven treatments and four replicates. The treatments consisted of doses of pig slurry biofertilizer (0; 40; 80; 120; 160; 200 and 240 m3 ha-1), applied to the soil surface in a single application, at stage V2 of corn plants. Thirty-three days after biofertilization, soil samples were collected in each plot. Corn was harvested 129 days after sowing. Doses up to 240 m3 ha-1 of pig slurry biofertilizer applied to soil with good fertility did not influence soil chemical properties and corn yield. The use of pig slurry biofertilizer had no detectable effect on nutrient concentrations in corn leaves and kernels.

Thermal inkjet-printing of copper tetrasulfonated phthalocyanine (CuTsPc) films containing polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) plasticizer were used to fabricate flexible metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) capacitors using anodic aluminum oxide (Al2O3) as the insulating layer. The Al2O3 layer and printed CuTsPc+PVA films were characterized individually and in a MIS structure by electrical impedance spectroscopy. Capacitance-frequency and capacitance-voltage measurements revealed distinct contributions from CuTsPc and PVA on the device electrical response. From these measurements the semiconductor charge carrier mobility, ∝, of 1.22x10- 4 cm² V- 1 s- 1 and the doping density, N A, of 3.1x10(16) cm- 3 were calculated. It was observed a low-frequency electrical response, which was attributed to diffusional processes within the printed film arising from Na+ ions dissociated from the CuTsPc molecule. A simple equivalent circuit model was proposed to take this effect into account. Finally, the results shown here demonstrate the possibility to produce flexible organic electronic devices exploiting the semiconducting properties of water-soluble CuTsPc molecules using low-cost commercial printers.

CONTEXTO E OBJETIVO: A ocorrência de fibrilação atrial (FA) assintomática é comum. A identificação da FA é importante e está associada com maior morbimortalidade. O Holter de 24 horas vem sendo utilizado para a detecção de FA paroxística (FAP). O objetivo desse estudo é investigar a relação entre a ocorrência de FAP no Holter de 24 horas e os sintomas na população estudada.TIPO DE ESTUDO E LOCAL: Estudo transversal realizado em um hospital de cardiologia.MÉTODOS: Análise de 11.321 exames consecutivos de Holter de 24 horas realizados em serviço de referência. Foram excluídos pacientes com marcapasso e aqueles com FA durante toda a gravação.RESULTADOS: Foram identificados 75 (0,67%) exames apresentando FAP. A idade média foi de 67 ± 13 anos e 45% eram do sexo feminino. A frequência cardíaca (FC) encontrada nas 24 horas foi mínima de 45 ± 8 bpm, média de 74 ± 17 bpm e máxima de 151 ± 32 bpm. Entre os exames apresentando FAP, apenas 26% apresentaram sintomas. O único fator testado que evidenciou correlação com FA sintomática foi a FC máxima (165 ± 34 versus 147 ± 30 bpm) (P = 0,03). O uso de betabloqueadores teve efeito protetor para ocorrência de sintomas na FA (odds ratio: 0.24, P = 0.031).CONCLUSÕES: A FAP é um evento raro em Holter de 24 horas. A FC máxima nas 24 horas foi o único fator relacionado com FA sintomática e o uso de betabloqueadores teve efeito protetor para ocorrência de sintomas na FA.

CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVE: Occurrences of asymptomatic atrial fibrillation (AF) are common. It is important to identify AF because it increases morbidity and mortality. 24-hour Holter has been used to detect paroxysmal AF (PAF). The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between occurrence of PAF in 24-hour Holter and the symptoms of the population studied.DESIGN AND SETTING: Cross-sectional study conducted at a cardiology hospital.METHODS: 11,321 consecutive 24-hour Holter tests performed at a referral service were analyzed. Patients with pacemakers or with AF throughout the recording were excluded.RESULTS: There were 75 tests (0.67%) with PAF. The mean age was 67 ± 13 years and 45% were female. The heart rate (HR) over the 24 hours was a minimum of 45 ± 8 bpm, mean of 74 ± 17 bpm and maximum of 151 ± 32 bpm. Among the tests showing PAF, only 26% had symptoms. The only factor tested that showed a correlation with symptomatic AF was maximum HR (165 ± 34 versus 147 ± 30 bpm) (P = 0.03). Use of beta blockers had a protective effect against occurrence of PAF symptoms (odds ratio: 0.24, P = 0.031).CONCLUSIONS: PAF is a rare event in 24-hour Holter. The maximum HR during the 24 hours was the only factor correlated with symptomatic AF, and use of beta blockers had a protective effect against AF symptom occurrence.

Neste estudo, sete isolados de Cercospora coffeicola, agente causal da cercosporiose em cafeeiros, foram estudados com relação ao crescimento micelial em diferentes temperaturas, comparação das sequências das regiões ITS1 e ITS2 do DNA ribossômico e de parte do gene da calmodulina, e com relação à patogenicidade a oito cultivares de cafeeiro (Catuaí Vermelho IAC 81, Catuaí S H3, Tupi IAC 1669 - 33, Tupi RN IAC 1669 - 13, Icatu Vermelho IAC 4045, Ouro Verde IAC H 5010-5, Geisha IAC 1137 e Mundo Novo IAC 376-4). As temperaturas de maior crescimento micelial foram de 23,8, 23,7 e 23,9ºC para os isolados IBLF277 (Franca, SP), IBLF280 (São Sebastião do Paraíso, MG) e IBLF379 (São João do Manhuaçu, MG), respectivamente; de 24,6ºC e de 25,1ºC para os isolados IBL199 (Patos de Minas, MG) e IBLF270 (Boa Esperança, MG); e de 27,6 e 27,8ºC, para os isolados IBLF004 (Campinas, SP) e IBLF206 (Patrocínio, MG). Na análise filogenética os isolados IBLF270 e IBLF379 formaram um subgrupo único, mas as sequências do gene da calmodulina de todos os isolados apresentaram 100% de identidade. Os isolados IBLF277, IBLF270, IBLF379 e IBLF199 foram os mais patogênicos às mudas de cafeeiro das diferentes cultivares. A cultivar Ouro Verde IAC H 5010-5 foi a mais resistente à cercosporiose e as cultivares Geisha IAC 1137, Mundo Novo IAC 376-4 e Tupi IAC 1669-33 as mais suscetíveis, entretanto, no segundo experimento, houve interação entre cultivares e isolados.

Seven isolates of Cercospora coffeicola, the etiological agent of brown eye spot in coffee, were studied in relation to micelial growth at different temperatures, sequences of the ITS1 and ITS2 ribossomic DNA regions and of part of the calmodulin gene, and pathogenicity to seedlings of eight coffee cultivars (Catuaí Vermelho IAC 81, Catuaí S H3, Tupi IAC 1669 - 33, Tupi RN IAC 1669 - 13, Icatu Vermelho IAC 4045, Ouro Verde IAC H 5010-5, Geisha IAC 1137 and Mundo Novo IAC 376-4). The temperatures that promoted the highest micelial growth varied among isolates: 23,8, 23,7 and 23,9ºC for isolates IBLF277, IBLF280 and IBLF379; 24,6ºC to 25,1ºC for isolates IBL199 and IBLF270; and 27,6 and 27,8ºC for isolates IBLF004 and IBLF206. In the phylogenetic analysis, isolates IBLF270 and IBLF379 were separated in a subgroup, but the sequences of part of the calmodulin gene of all isolates showed 100% identity. The most pathogenic isolates for all coffee cultivars were IBLF277, IBLF270, IBLF379 and IBLF199. The cultivar Ouro Verde IAC H 5010-5 was the most resistant to brown eye spot and the cultivars Geisha IAC 1137, Mundo Novo IAC 376-4 and Tupi IAC 1669-33 were the most susceptible, but in the second experiment there was interaction between cultivars and isolates.

Objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar o efeito de níveis de ácido láctico e do ácido propiônico sobre a fermentação de microrganismos ruminais in vitro. No experimento 1, os níveis, em um total de 12, foram os seguintes: adição de 0 (controle 1), 50, 100, 150, 200 e 250 mM de ácido láctico e 0 (controle 2), 50, 100, 150, 200, 250 mM de ácido propiônico, respectivamente, aos tubos de incubação, que continham inóculo ruminal, glicose e meio de cultura sintético, com duas repetições para cada combinação. No Experimento 2, as combinações, em um total de 4, foram os seguintes: presença de 12 e 24 mM de ácido propiônico e 0 mg glicose, respectivamente; presença 12 e 24 mM de ácido propiônico e 40 mg glicose, respectivamente, aos tubos de incubação que continham inóculo ruminal, com ou sem glicose e meio de cultura sintético com duas repetições cada. Não houve efeito na velocidade específica de crescimento dos microrganismos ruminais na presença de ácido láctico ou propiônico. Entretanto, quando nos meios havia concentrações maiores desses ácidos, houve maior fase lag no crescimento dos microrganismos. A concentração de 24 mM de ácido propiônico inibiu a produção de ácido acético e ácido butírico em meio com glicose. Apesar de não ser usado como fonte de energia pelos microrganismos ruminais, o ácido propiônico afeta seu metabolismo. Os ácidos láctico e propiônico, em concentrações elevadas, inibem o crescimento de determinados microrganismos ruminais.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of the levels of lactic and propionic acids on in vitro fermentation of ruminal microorganisms. In experiment 1, the levels, in a total of 12 were the following: addition of 0 (control 1), 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 mM of lactic acid and 0 (control 2), 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 mM of propionic acid, respectively, in incubation flasks, which contained ruminal inoculum, glucose and synthetic culture medium, with two repetitions for each combination. In experiment 2, the combinations, in a total of 4, were the following: presence of 12 and 24 mM of propionic acid and 0 mg of glucose, respectively; presence of 12 and 24 mM of propionic acid and 40 mg of glucose, respectively, to the incubation flasks which contained ruminal inoculum, with or without glucose and in synthetic culture medium with two repetitions each. There was no effect on the specific growth velocity of ruminal microorganisms in the presence of lactic acid or propionic acid. However, when there were greater concentrations of these acids in the media, there was a longer lag phase in the microorganism phase. Acid propionic at the concentration of 24 mM inhibited the production of acid acetic and butyric acid in a media with glucose. Despite of not being used as a source of energy by the ruminal microorganisms, propionic acid affects their metabolism. Lactic and propionic acids inhibit growth of some ruminal microorganisms at elevated concentrations.

OBJETIVO: Revisar as medidas preconizadas para o manejo de pacientes agitados ou agressivos. MÉTODO: Por meio de uma busca em bancos de dados (PubMed e Web of Science) foram identificados artigos empíricos e revisões sobre intervenções farmacológicas e não farmacológicas para o manejo de agitação e/ou violência. RESULTADOS: O manejo não farmacológico de agitação/agressão engloba a organização do espaço físico e a adequação de atitudes e comportamentos dos profissionais de saúde. O objetivo principal do manejo farmacológico é a tranquilização rápida, buscando a redução dos sintomas de agitação e agressividade, sem a indução de sedação profunda ou prolongada, mantendo-se o paciente tranquilo, mas completa ou parcialmente responsivo. A polifarmácia deve ser evitada e as doses das medicações devem ser o menor possível, ajustadas de acordo com a necessidade clínica. A administração intramuscular de medicação deve ser considerada como última alternativa e as opções de uso de antipsicóticos e benzodiazepínicos são descritas e comentadas. O manejo físico, por meio de contenção mecânica, pode ser necessário nas situações de violência em que exista risco para o paciente ou equipe, e deve obedecer a critérios rigorosos. CONCLUSÃO: Os procedimentos devem ser cuidadosamente executados, evitando complicações de ordem física e emocional para pacientes e equipe.

OBJECTIVE: To review current data about the management of agitated or aggressive patients. METHOD: Through a search of databases (PubMed and Web of Science), empirical articles and reviews about pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions for the management of agitation and /or violence were identified. RESULTS: The non-pharmacological management of agitation/aggression encompasses the organization of space and appropriateness of behavior and attitudes of health professionals. The main goal of pharmacological management is rapid tranquilization aimed at reducing symptoms of agitation and aggression, without the induction of deep or prolonged sedation, keeping the patient calm, but completely or partially responsive. Polypharmacy should be avoided, and doses of medications should be as small as possible, adjusted according to clinical need. Intramuscular administration of medication should be considered as a last resort and the options for the use of antipsychotics and benzodiazepines are described and commented. The physical management by means of mechanical restraint may be necessary in violent situations where there is risk to the patient or staff, and must meet strict criteria. CONCLUSION: Procedures must be carefully implemented to avoid physical and emotional complications for patients and staff.

Em Santa Catarina, foi observado aumento da cobertura florestal nas últimas décadas, o que vem construindo uma paisagem florestal retalhada por um grande mosaico de fragmentos de vários estádios sucessionais. Neste trabalho, buscou-se avaliar o dinamismo do processo sucessional de dois diferentes estádios sucessionais. Em área florestal de 40 ha localizada no Município de São Pedro de Alcântara, SC, abandonada pelo uso agropecuário em meados de 1970, foram estabelecidas aleatoriamente parcelas permanentes (50 x 50 m), duas em estádio florestal secundário médio (SM) e quatro em estádio secundário avançado (SA). As avaliações anuais durante o período de 1994 a 2000 de todas as plantas arbóreas com DAP >5 cm revelaram que no SM os valores da densidade de plantas, residentes, recrutadas, mortas e ramificadas foram superiores em relação aos no SA. No entanto, a riqueza de espécies, área basal e distribuição diamétrica foram superiores no SA. Botanicamente, foram observadas com muita clareza as espécies e as famílias dominantes de cada estádio e igualmente o dinamismo sucessional desse grupo de espécies, aumento explosivo e posterior declínio e substituição, evidenciando-se perfeitamente a funcionalidade dos grupos ecológicos nessa tipologia florestal. Por fim, destacou-se que a densidade de plantas ramificadas é notadamente superior em estádios florestais secundários iniciais, embora as taxas de incremento corrente anual fossem similares. As avaliações florísticas mostraram, ainda, que as florestas no litoral catarinense se encontravam em dinâmica sucessional, em que espécies climáxicas vêm substituindo paulatinamente o grupo de espécies pioneiras, elevando a diversidade de espécies e a biomassa florestal.

In Santa Catarina State, the forested area of the Atlantic Forest increased in the last decade, forming a landscape which is characterized by a mosaic of fragments of distinct successional stages. This work aimed to evaluate the successional process dynamics of two successional stages in the secondary Atlantic forest. This study was carried out in a secondary forest remnant near São Pedro de Alcântara-SC (area of 40 ha), abandoned since 1970. Permanent plots (50 x 50 m) were established randomly, two in a secondary medium growth (SM) and four in a secondary old growth (SA) forest stages. The annual evaluations from 1994 to 2000 on all trees with DBH >5 cm revealed that while the SM stage exhibited superior values for density, recruited, dead and branched plants, the SA stage exhibited superior values for species richness, basal area and diametric class. Botanically, the dominant species and families in each stage were clearly observed, as well as the succession dynamics of this species group, explosive increase and posterior decrease and substitution, perfectly demonstrating the functionality of the ecological groups of this forest typology. Finally, the density of the plants branched was found to be superior at the initial secondary forest stages, although the rates of annual current increase were similar. The floristic evaluations also showed that the forests in the Santa Catarina coast were in a succession dynamics, where pioneer species have been gradually replaced by climax species, increasing species diversity and forest biomass.
