Resumo A obesidade e doenças relacionadas representam as maiores ameaças à saúde humana. As nanopartículas (NPs) servem para reduzir a toxicidade, reforçar a bioatividade e melhorar o direcionamento. Este estudo teve como objetivo investigar as atividades antiobesidade e antioxidante de nanopartículas de selênio e óxido de zinco. Métodos: Vinte e quatro ratos machos adultos foram divididos em quatro grupos, grupo 1 ratos controle alimentados com dieta normal e os outros três grupos foram alimentados com dieta hiperlipídica (HFD) por 10 semanas para induzir obesidade e injetados intraperitonealmente com soro fisiológico, SeNPs (30μg/kg b.wt) e ZnONPs (5mg/kg b.wt) respectivamente nas duas últimas semanas de alimentação (9ª e 10ª). Resultados: HFD aumentou o peso corporal, estresse oxidativo indicado pela peroxidação lipídica elevada e diminuição dos níveis de glutationa e catalase, aumentou significativamente as frações lipídicas séricas, leptina, enzimas hepáticas, creatinina e ácido úrico. Enquanto causa uma diminuição substancial nos níveis de HDL-C e hormônio tireoidiano T4. Os resultados confirmaram que o tratamento com SeNPs e ZnONPs reduziu significativamente o peso corporal, MDA e melhorou as funções hepáticas e renais, melhorou o nível das frações lipídicas séricas e aumentou significativamente a glutationa, catalase, HDL-C e hormônio tireoidiano. Conclusão: SeNPs e ZnONPs atenuam significativamente a hiperlipidemia e o estresse oxidativo, então eles podem ser candidatos em potencial para a melhora da obesidade.

Abstract Obesity and related diseases represent greatest threats to human health. Nanoparticles (NPs) serve to reduce toxicity; reinforce bioactivity and improve targeting. This study was intended to investigate the antiobesity and antioxidant activities of selenium and zinc oxide nanoparticles. Methods: Twenty four adult male rats were divided into four groups, group1 control rats fed normal diet and the other three groups were fed high fat diet (HFD) for 10 weeks to induce obesity and injected intraperitoneally with saline, SeNPs (30μg/kg b.wt) and ZnONPs (5mg/kg b.wt) respectively on the last two weeks of feeding (9th and 10th). Results: HFD increased body weight, oxidative stress as indicated by elevated lipid peroxidation and decreased glutathione and catalase levels, increased significantly serum lipid fractions, leptin, liver enzymes, creatinine and uric acid. While causing a substantial decrease in HDL-C and thyroid hormone T4 levels. The results confirmed that treatment with SeNPs and ZnONPs significantly reduced body weight, MDA and improved liver and kidney functions, ameliorated serum lipid fractions level and significantly increased glutathione, catalase, HDL-C and thyroid hormone. Conclusion: SeNPs and ZnONPs significantly mitigate hyperlipidemia and oxidative stress. So, they might be potential candidate for obesity amelioration.

Abstract Nanosensors work on the “Nano” scale. “Nano” is a unit of measurement around 10− 9 m. A nanosensor is a device capable of carrying data and information about the behavior and characteristics of particles at the nanoscale level to the macroscopic level. Nanosensors can be used to detect chemical or mechanical information such as the presence of chemical species and nanoparticles or monitor physical parameters such as temperature on the nanoscale. Nanosensors are emerging as promising tools for applications in agriculture. They offer an enormous upgrade in selectivity, speed, and sensitivity compared to traditional chemical and biological methods. Nanosensors can be used for the determination of microbe and contaminants. With the advancement of science in the world and the advent of electronic equipment and the great changes that have taken place in recent decades, the need to build more accurate, smaller and more capable sensors was felt. Today, high-sensitivity sensors are used that are sensitive to small amounts of gas, heat, or radiation. Increasing the sensitivity, efficiency and accuracy of these sensors requires the discovery of new materials and tools. Nano sensors are nanometer-sized sensors that, due to their small size and nanometer size, have such high accuracy and responsiveness that they react even to the presence of several atoms of a gas. Nano sensors are inherently smaller and more sensitive than other sensors.

Resumo Os nanossensores funcionam na escala “Nano”. “Nano” é uma unidade de medida em torno de 10-9 m. Um nanosensor é um dispositivo capaz de transportar dados e informações sobre o comportamento e as características das partículas no nível da nanoescala para o nível macroscópico. Os nanossensores podem ser usados para detectar informações químicas ou mecânicas, como a presença de espécies químicas e nanopartículas, ou monitorar parâmetros físicos, como temperatura em nanoescala. Os nanossensores estão surgindo como ferramentas promissoras para aplicações na agricultura. Eles oferecem uma abrangente atualização em seletividade, velocidade e sensibilidade em comparação com os métodos químicos e biológicos tradicionais. Os nanossensores podem ser usados para a determinação de micróbios e contaminantes. Abstract Most of the treatment strategies for tumors and other disorders is photodynamic therapy (PDT). For several years, increasing the efficiency of nanostructured treatment devices, including light therapy, has been considered in different treatment methods. Light Dynamics The use of nanomaterial in this method's production and progress. The use of nanoparticles as carriers is a promising accomplishment, since all the criteria for an ideal photodynamic therapy agent can be given with these nanomaterials. The kinds of nanoparticles that have recently been used in photodynamic therapy are mentioned in this article. Latest advancements are being explored in the use of inorganic nanoparticles and biodegradable polymer-based nanomaterial as carriers of photosynthetic agents. Photosynthetic nanoparticles, self-propagating nanoparticles, and conversion nanoparticles are among the successful photodynamic therapy nanoparticles addressed in this report.

Resumo A maioria das estratégias de tratamento para tumores e outros distúrbios consiste na terapia fotodinâmica (PDT). Por vários anos, observou-se o aumento da eficiência de dispositivos de tratamento nanoestruturados, incluindo terapia de luz, que tem sido considerada em diferentes métodos de tratamento. Desse modo, este trabalho visa analisar a utilização de nanomateriais na produção e evolução deste método. A utilização de nanopartículas como carreadores é uma conquista promissora, pois todos os critérios para um agente de terapia fotodinâmica ideal podem ser obtidos com esses nanomateriais. Os categorias de nanopartículas que têm sido utilizados recentemente na terapia fotodinâmica são mencionados neste artigo. Os últimos avanços estão sendo explorados na utilização de nanopartículas inorgânicas e nanomateriais à base de polímeros biodegradáveis como portadores de agentes fotossintéticos. Nanopartículas fotossintéticas, nanopartículas autopropagantes e nanopartículas de conversão estão entre as nanopartículas de terapia fotodinâmica bem-sucedidas abordadas neste trabalho.

Resumo Metais como cobre e prata podem ser extremamente tóxicos para bactérias em concentrações excepcionalmente baixas. Devido a esta atividade biocida, os metais têm sido amplamente utilizados como agentes antimicrobianos em uma infinidade de aplicações relacionadas à agricultura, saúde e indústria em geral. Muitos microrganismos vivem no ambiente humano e, se o equilíbrio dessas criaturas na natureza for alterado, a saúde dos indivíduos e da sociedade estará ameaçada devido à produção e emissão de odores desagradáveis e à redução dos padrões de saúde. A presença de microrganismos em têxteis pode causar efeitos adversos, como descoloração ou manchas, decomposição de materiais fibrosos, resistência reduzida e, eventualmente, deterioração. Abstract Metals, such as copper and silver, can be extremely toxic to bacteria at exceptionally low concentrations. Because of this biocidal activity, metals have been widely used as antimicrobial agents in a multitude of applications related with agriculture, healthcare, and the industry in general. A large number of microorganisms live in the human environment. if the balance of these creatures in nature is disturbed, the health of the individual and society will be threatened due to the production and emission of unpleasant odors and the reduction of health standards. The presence of microorganisms on textiles can cause adverse effects such as discoloration or staining on textiles, decomposition of fibrous materials, reduced strength, and eventually decay of textiles. Resumo Os manipuladores de alimentos desempenham um papel fundamental na transmissão de protozoários e helmintos parasitas patogenicamente importantes. Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a prevalência de protozoários patogênicos intestinais e helmintos parasitas entre manipuladores de alimentos na Universidade de Malakand, Lower Dir, Paquistão. Amostras de fezes foram coletadas de 642 manipuladores de alimentos (todos do sexo masculino) em um estudo transversal de janeiro a novembro de 2017. Técnicas de montagem úmida e métodos de concentração usando soluções de sal e formol-éter. Trezentos e oitenta e quatro casos (59,8%) foram encontrados infectados com mais um parasita. A maioria dos indivíduos foi encontrada infectada por helmintos (47,6%) em comparação com protozoários intestinais (0,93%). Setenta e dois casos (11,2%) dos casos apresentavam infecção mista com protozoários intestinais e helmintos parasitas. A ordem de prevalência de helmintos intestinais foi Ancylostoma duodenale (n = 258, 40,1%), seguido por Taeniasa ginata (n = 96, 14,9%) Ascaris lumbricoides (n = 54, 8,40%) e Trichuris trichura (n = 30, 4,60 %). Para protozoários intestinais, Entamoeba histolytica / dispar (n = 36, 5,64%) foi o único protozoário detectado. Monoparasitismo foi maior do que poliparasitismo. A renda familiar e o nível de escolaridade foram os fatores significativamente (P <0,05) associados na prevalência de parasitos. A pesquisa atual mostrou que os IPIs são principalmente os patógenos de origem alimentar, ainda um importante problema de saúde pública no Paquistão. Programas eficazes de controle da transferência de doenças parasitárias e seus fatores associados são recomendados.

Abstract Food handlers plays a primary role in the transmission of pathogenically important protozoans and helminth parasites. This study was aimed to evaluate the prevalence of intestinal pathogenic protozoans and helminth parasites among food handlers in and around University of Malakand, Lower Dir, Pakistan. Stool samples were collected from 642 food handlers (all of male) in a cross-sectional study from January to November, 2017. Wet Mount Techniques and concentration methods by using salt and formol–ether solutions. Three hundred and eighty four cases (59.8%) were found infected with one more parasites. Most of the individuals were found infected with helminth (47.6%) as compared to intestinal protozoans (0.93%). Seventy two cases (11.2%) of the cases presented mixed infection with both intestinal protozoan and helminth parasites. The order of prevalence for intestinal helminth was Ancylostoma duodenale (n = 258, 40.1%), followed by Taeniasa ginata (n=96, 14.9%) Ascaris lumbricoides (n = 54, 8.40%) and Trichuris trichura (n=30, 4.60%). For intestinal protozoa, Entamoeba histolytica/dispar (n = 36, 5.64%) was the only protozoan detected. Mono-parasitism was higher than poly-parasitism. Family size income and education level were the factors significantly (P<0.05) associated in the parasites prevalence. Current research showed that IPIs are primarily the foodborne pathogens still an important public health problem in Pakistan. Effective control programs on parasitic diseases transfer and their associated factors are recommended.

Resumo O objetivo deste estudo foi produzir alto rendimento de uma protease alcalina bacteriana local no sistema de leveduras, já que o envolvimento científico de microrganismos na produção de enzimas ainda não recebe atenção suficiente na Arábia Saudita. Amostras de solo foram coletadas da rizosfera de algumas plantas do deserto na Arábia Saudita. Noventa e três isolados bacterianos produtores de protease alcalina foram recuperados em ágar de leite desnatado a pH 9,4 e 45°C por 48 horas. O isolado D9 obtido da rizosfera de Heliotropium digynum na cidade de Dhahran foi o mais potente em relação à produtividade da enzima (184,6 U/ml). O gene completo da protease alcalina foi amplificado e apresentou o tamanho esperado (1300 pb). A análise de enzimas de restrição também verificou a integridade do produto de PCR. A sequência do gene da protease revelou uma fase de leitura aberta de 1329 nt, correspondendo ao comprimento total do gene da protease do isolado D9 que codifica uma proteína 443 aa. Após a ligação do gene amplificado pelo método de clonagem TA, a digestão com enzimas de restrição apropriadas confirmou a integridade do gene clonado. A inserção foi preparada por dois PCRs que foram conduzidos com um par de primers projetados especificamente para esta finalidade. O vetor de clonagem digerido e purificado pRS426/GAL1p-207-Glu-MS foi ligado com a inserção e então transformado em várias cepas de Saccharomyces cerevisiae por meio do método de eletroporação. A expressão máxima da protease foi feita por OS303 recombinante em meio contendo galactose (145,5 U/ml) com um aumento de aproximadamente duas vezes quando comparado com a cepa OS303 selvagem, e isso pode ser por causa da capacidade de ativar o operon gal.

Abstract The aim of this study was to produce high yield of a local bacterial alkaline protease in the yeast system because the scientific involvement of microorganisms in enzyme production is still not given enough attention in Saudi Arabia. Soil samples were collected from the rhizosphere of some desert plants in Saudi Arabia. Ninety-three alkaline protease producing bacterial isolates were recovered on skimmed-milk agar at pH 9.4 and 45°C for 48 hr. Isolate D9 obtained from the rhizosphere of Heliotropium digynum at Dhahran City was the most potent isolate in respect to enzyme productivity (184.6 U/ml). The full gene of alkaline protease was amplified and showed the expected size (1300 bp). Restriction enzymes analysis also verified the integrity of the PCR product. The sequence of the protease gene revealed an open reading frame of 1329 nt correspond to the full length of the protease gene of isolate D9 encoding a 443 aa protein. After ligation of the amplified gene by the TA cloning method, digestion with appropriate restriction enzymes confirmed the integrity of the cloned gene. The insert was prepared by two PCRs that were conducted with a pair of primers specifically designed for this purpose. The digested and purified cloning vector pRS426/GAL1p-207-Glu-MS was ligated with the insert then transformed into various strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae via the electroporation method. Maximum protease expression was done by recombinant OS303 in galactose containing media (145.5 U/ml) with an approximately 2-fold increase when compared with the wild OS303 strain., this may be due to ability to activate gal operon.

Resumo As infecções causadas por parasitas geo-helmínticos são chamados de geohelmintíases e são um dos problemas de saúde globais. Os vegetais comidos crus são a principal fonte de transmissão dos parasitas geo-helmínticos. O povo paquistanês acredita que comer vegetais crus é uma fonte significativa para obter vitaminas e minerais importantes. Com base na alta incidência de parasitas patogênicos e no cultivo de diferentes tipos de vegetais nas áreas de estudo, conduzimos este estudo para avaliar a contaminação por geo-helmintos de vegetais crus no noroeste de Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Paquistão. Trata-se de um estudo descritivo composto por 1942 amostras de 25 tipos diversos de vegetais. As amostras foram examinadas em solução salina fisiológica utilizando métodos de sedimentação e centrifugação. Os achados foram analisados pelo Graph-Pad versão 5. O valor de P menor que 0,05 (IC 95%) foi considerado significativo. Os resultados mostraram que 16,5% (n = 322) de todas as hortaliças estavam contaminadas com um ou mais tipos de parasitas geo-helmínticos. O alho foi a amostra mais contaminada (35%) e a couve-flor a menos (4%), respectivamente. Ascaris lumbricoides foi o geo-helmíntico mais comum encontrado, seguido por espécies de verme-anzol, enquanto Trichuris trichura foi o menos encontrado em todas as amostras de vegetais. Os vegetais folhosos foram altamente contaminados 25,3% do que os vegetais com partes de raiz 21,2% e frutados 9,09%. Mais da metade dos vegetais contaminados estavam contaminados com uma única espécie de geo-helmintos (P <0,05), enquanto menos da metade com vários tipos de contaminação com geo-helmintos. Noventa e duas amostras de vegetais estavam contaminadas com 2 espécies de parasitas (P <0,05) e 45 com 3 (P> 0,05) espécies de parasitas geo-helmínticos. O nível de escolaridade dos vendedores e os meios de exibição não foram significativamente associados, enquanto os tipos de vegetais usados foram significativamente associados à prevalência de parasitas. Os resultados deste estudo fornecem evidências de que o consumo de vegetais crus tem um alto risco de adquirir infecções por geo-helmintos. Os autores acreditam que impedir que o ser humano entre na terra de hortaliças para defecação, evitar a irrigação de campos agrícolas via solo noturno e educar as pessoas sobre a lavagem e cozimento adequados de vegetais pode ser útil na redução de infecções parasitárias.

Abstract Infection caused by geo-helminth parasites are called geohelminthiasis are one of the global health problems. Vegetables eaten raw is the principal source of transmission of geo-helminth parasites. Pakistani people believe that eating raw vegetables are a significant source to get important vitamins and minerals. Based on the high incidence of pathogenic parasites and cultivating different vegetable types in the study areas, we conducted this study to evaluate the geo-helminth contamination of raw vegetables in northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. This is a descriptive study comprised, 1942 samples of 25 various types of vegetables. The samples were examined in physiological saline solution using sedimentation and centrifugation methods. The findings were analyzed by Graph-Pad version 5. P value less than 0.05 (95% CI) was considered significant. Results showed that 16.5% (n=322) of all vegetables were contaminated with one or more type of geo-helminth parasites. Garlic was the highest (35%) and cauliflower the lowest (4%) contaminated samples respectively. Ascaris lumbricoides was the most common geo-helminth found followed by hook worm species while Trichuris trichura was the least in all the vegetable samples. Leafy vegetables were highly contaminated 25.3% than vegetables with root parts 21.2% and fruity 9.09%. More than half of the contaminated vegetables were contaminated with single species of geo-helminth (P<0.05) while less than half with multiple types of geo-helminth contamination. Ninety two vegetables samples were contaminated with 2 species of parasites (P<0.05) and 45 with 3 (P>0.05) species of geo-helminth parasites. Education level of vendors and means of display were not significantly associated while types of vegetable used were significantly associated with the prevalence of parasites. The findings of this study provide evidence that consumption of raw vegetable has a high risk of acquiring geo-helminth infections. The authors believe that preventing the human to enter to the vegetable farmland for defecation, avoiding the irrigation of agricultural fields via night soil, and educating the people on proper washing and cooking of vegetables may be useful in reducing parasitic infections.

Resumo A coccidiose continua sendo um dos maiores problemas em aves de todo o mundo. Dados muito limitados sobre drogas anticoccidiais em pombos selvagens estão disponíveis. O presente estudo teve como objetivo compreender a eficácia comparativa da sulfadimidina, amprólio e triquenho em pombos selvagens do distrito de Dir, no Paquistão, que sofrem de coccidiose. A matéria fecal dos pombos selvagens foi comprada no mercado local para infecção por coccídios. Os resultados revelaram que 88,8% (16/18) foram encontrados infectados com Eimeria spp. Três grupos positivos foram tratados com sulfadimidina (0,2mg / L), amprólio (25mg / L) e triquenho. A sulfadimidina foi mais eficaz (45%), seguida pelo amprólio (44,6%), enquanto o triquenho (24,0%) apresentou menor efetividade contra a coccidiose em pombos. O número de oocistos foram 79, 81 e 80 antes do tratamento e 60, 44 e 44 após o tratamento com sulfadimidina, amprólio e triquenho, respectivamente. Este estudo mostrou que sulphadimidine, amprolium e triquen não poderiam reduzir significativamente a coccidiose em pombos. Mais estudos são necessários para limpar o mecanismo de drogas anticoccidiais em pombos selvagens.

Abstract Coccidiosis remains one of the major problems in poultry all over the world. Very limited data on anticoccidial drugs in wild pigeons is available. The current study was aimed to understand the comparative efficacy of sulfadimidine, amprolium and triquen in wild pigeons of Dir district, Pakistan suffering from coccidiosis. The faecal matter of wild pigeons were purchased from the local market for coccidian infection. Results revealed that 88.8% (16/18) were found infected with Eimeria spp. Three positive groups were treated with sulfadimidine (0.2mg/L), amprolium (25mg/L) and triquen. Sulfadimidine was most effective (45%) followed by amprolium (44.6%) while triquen (24.0%) showed less effectiveness against coccidiosis in pigeons. Number of oocysts were 79, 81 and 80 before treatment and 60, 44 and 44 after treatment with sulfadimidine, amprolium and triquen respectively. This study showed that sulphadimidine, amprolium and triquen could not significantly reduce the coccidiosis in pigeons. Further studies are required to clear the mechanism of anti-coccidial drugs in wild pigeons.

Resumo Este estudo visa isolar e identificar certos patógenos bacterianos e fúngicos do bicho-da-seda (Bombyx mori L.), como a promissora quitosana, além de nanopartículas de prata como sua atividade antimicrobiana em condições de laboratório. Ovos de B. mori (H1xKKxG2xV2-Bolgaria) foram obtidos do Centro de Pesquisa em Sericultura da Província de Gizé, Egito. Materiais de nanopartículas de quitosana e prata foram montados no laboratório do Departamento de Bioquímica, Faculdade de Agricultura, Universidade Al-Azhar, Cairo, Egito. Aqui, foi isolado um total de 7 bactérias e 5 fungos das larvas de bicho-da-seda externas e internas. Como resultado, a diminuição percentual média no peso foi elevada no quinto instar doente (88%) em comparação com o quarto instar doente (62%). Além disso, foram identificadas duas espécies bacterianas isoladas das larvas infectadas (Staphylococcus aureus e Enterococcus faecalis), enquanto três espécies fúngicas foram isoladas (Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus tamarii e Beauveria bassiana). A imagem de microscopia eletrônica de transmissão demonstrou as propriedades morfológicas e aparência de superfície de nanopartículas de prata e quitosana que têm uma forma quase esférica e superfície lisa. Foi registrado o tamanho médio das partículas de 18,7-26,0 nm e 18,8-21,8 nm de nanopartículas de prata e quitosana, respectivamente. Além disso, a atividade mais alta entre as nanopartículas testadas contra todas as bactérias patogênicas e fungos isolados e identificados em nosso estudo foi registrada pela quitosana em 100 µg/ml em série, enquanto a nanopartícula de prata exibiu atividade antibacteriana e antifúngica moderada.

Chitosan and silvеr nanoparticlеs matеrials were assembled at the laboratory of Biochеmistry Departmеnt, Faculty of Agriculturе, Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt. Herein total of 7 bactеrial and 5 fungal were isolatеd from the еxtеrnal and internal silkworm larvae. As a result, the mean percentage decrease in weight was elevated in diseased fifth instars (88%) compared to fourth diseased instars (62%). In addition, two bactеrial spеcies isolatеd from the infectеd larvae were identified as follows: Staphylococcus aurеus and Enterococcus faеcalis, whereas thrее fungal spеcies were isolatеd as follows: Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus tamarii and Beauveria bassiana. Transmission elеctron microscopе imaging demonstrated the morphological propеrties and surfacе appеarance of silvеr and chitosan nanoparticlеs which havе a nеarly sphеrical shapе and smooth surfacе. The avеrage particlе size of 18.7 - 26.0 nm and 18.8 to 21.8 nm of silvеr and chitosan nanoparticles were recordеd. Furthermore, the highеst activity among nanoparticlеs tested against all pathogеnic bacteria and fungi isolatеd and idеntified in our study was rеcordеd by chitosan at 100 µg/ml in sеries, whilst silvеr nanoparticle еxhibitеd modеrate antibacterial and antifungal activity.

ABSTRACT Rabbit hemorrhagic disease is a contagious viral disease of rabbits controlled by vaccination. The present study was aimed to diagnose rabbit hemorrhagic disease from 11 infected farms from Qalubia governorate during 2019 and to prepare homologous vaccine against rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus 2. For this purpose, 11 liver samples were collected from suspected cases and subjected to detection and identification of circulating rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus. Ten samples were confirmed to be rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus using hemagglutination test, animal inoculation and reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction. Sequencing and phylogenetic analysis of two isolates (R5&R6) revealed the presence of rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus 2 (A/Qalubia/2019 and B/Qalubia/2019) under accession number MT07629 and MT067630 respectively. The inactivated rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus vaccines were prepared using Montanide ISA 206 oil or aluminum hydroxide gel adjuvants. Prepared vaccines were inoculated subcutaneously in susceptible rabbits and submitted to sterility, safety and potency tests. Obtained results showed that mean hemagglutination inhibition titer for aluminum hydroxide gel vaccine was 6,7.7,8.9 and 9.1 log2 while, Montanide vaccine reached to 6.7,8.7,9.2 and 9.5 log2 at 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th weeks post vaccination, respectively. Immunized rabbits with Montanide vaccine showed better protection reach to 70%, 90%, 100% and 100% when compared to aluminum hydroxide gel vaccine 60%, 70%, 90% and 90% at 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th weeks post vaccination respectively. It was concluded that newly emerged rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus 2 was isolated from suspected cases. The two prepared vaccines were sterile, safe and potent. The oily adjuvanted rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus 2 vaccine stimulated an earlier and higher humoral immune response than the aluminum hydroxide gel adjuvanted vaccine. This humoral immune response achieved significant level of protection.

RESUMEN La enfermedad hemorrágica del conejo es una enfermedad viral contagiosa de los conejos que se controla mediante vacunación. El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo diagnosticar la enfermedad hemorrágica del conejo en 11 granjas infectadas de la provincia de Qalubia, durante 2019 y preparar una vacuna homóloga contra el virus de la enfermedad hemorrágica del conejo tipo 2. Para este propósito, se recolectaron 11 muestras de hígado de casos sospechosos y se sometieron a detección e identificación de virus circulante de la enfermedad hemorrágica del conejo. Se confirmó que diez muestras eran positivas al virus de la enfermedad hemorrágica del conejo, utilizando para ello la prueba de hemaglutinación, inoculación en animales y Reacción en cadena de la polimerasa con transcriptasa inversa. La secuenciación y el análisis filogenético de dos aislamientos (R5 y R6) revelaron la presencia del virus de la enfermedad hemorrágica del conejo tipo 2 (A/Qalubia/2019 y B/Qalubia/2019) con los números de acceso MT07629 y MT067630 respectivamente. Las vacunas inactivadas del virus de la enfermedad hemorrágica del conejo se prepararon usando adyuvantes de gel de hidróxido de aluminio o aceite Montanide ISA 206. Las vacunas preparadas se inocularon por vía subcutánea en conejos susceptibles y se sometieron a pruebas de esterilidad, seguridad y potencia. Los resultados obtenidos mostraron que el título medio de inhibición de la hemaglutinación para la vacuna en gel de hidróxido de aluminio fue de 6; 7,7; 8,9 y 9,1 log2, mientras que la vacuna de Montanide alcanzó 6,7; 8,7; 9,2 y 9,5 log2 en la 1ª, 2ª, 3ª y 4ª semanas después de la vacunación, respectivamente. Los conejos inmunizados con la vacuna Montanide tuvieron una mejor protección, alcanzándose niveles de 70%, 90%, 100% y 100% en comparación con la vacuna en gel de hidróxido de aluminio 60%, 70%, 90% y 90% en la 1ª, 2ª, 3ª y 4ª semanas después de la vacunación, respectivamente. Se concluyó que el virus de la enfermedad hemorrágica del conejo tipo 2 de reciente aparición se aisló de los casos sospechosos. Las dos vacunas preparadas fueron estériles, seguras y potentes. La vacuna contra el virus de la enfermedad hemorrágica del conejo tipo 2 con adyuvante oleoso estimuló una respuesta inmune humoral más temprana y mayor que la vacuna con adyuvante en gel de hidróxido de aluminio. Esta respuesta inmune humoral confirió un nivel significativo de protección.

Abstract The study was carried out to find the relation between subclinical endometritis (SCE) and postpartum (pp.) ovarian resumption as well as to evaluate serum and endometrial TNF-α, IL-8 and serum CRP in buffaloes with and without SCE. Thirty-nine pluriparous buffaloes at the 3rd (W3), 5th (W5) and 7th (W7) week pp. were involved in this experiment. The parity of the buffaloes ranged from 4 to 8 with an average 5.8±0.2. Subclinical endometritis was diagnosed by the percentage of polymorphonuclear cells (PMNs) in uterine cytology obtained from endometrial cytobrush at W5 and W7. The cut-off point of PMNs% in buffaloes for SCE was ≥ 6% at W5 or ≥ 4% at W7. According to PMNs%, buffaloes were divided into SCE group (n=27) and non-SCE group (n=12). Ovarian cyclicity was monitored by rectal palpation, ultrasonography and progesterone assay at W3, W5 and W7. Serum and endometrial TNF-α, IL-8 and serum CRP were estimated at W5 and W7. Buffaloes with SCE (55.6%) showed delayed ovarian activity as compared to non-SCE (16.7%) animals (P=0.036). Significant increase in serum cytokines and CRP levels were detected at W5 (P ˂0.05) and W7 (P <0.01) in SCE buffaloes as compared to non-SCE. Endometrial levels of cytokines were significantly (P ˂0.05) elevated in SCE buffaloes. Serum and endometrial cytokines showed significant positive correlation. Furthermore, levels of TNF-α, IL-8 and CRP exhibited significant positive correlation with PMNs%. In conclusion, SCE delayed postpartum ovarian cyclicity in buffaloes. Moreover, TNF-α, IL-8 and CRP assessments could be efficient tools in prediction of SCE in buffaloes.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of source of roughage and crude protein level on feeding performance and carcass traits of Majaheem camels (Camelus dromedarius). Forty-eight male calf-camels weighing 203.3±5.1 kg were equally assigned to a 2 × 3 factorial arrangement of two sources of roughage (Rhodes grass hay and dry salicornia biomass) and three dietary crude protein levels (12, 14.5, and 17%); the feeding trial lasted for 18 weeks. The results showed that slaughter and hot carcass weights, average daily gain, dry matter intake, feed efficiency, and separable fat from 9th-11th rib joint increased as the crude protein in the diets increased from 12 to 14.5%, whereas increasing crude protein to 17% resulted in no further changes. Slaughter weight, average daily gain, hot carcass weight, rib eye area, and separable lean did not differ between Rhodes grass and salicornia diets, but salicornia-fed camels had higher dry matter intake and produced heavier kidney fat and separable fat weights than camels fed Rhodes grass diets. It is suggested that the inclusion of salicornia biomass as a roughage ingredient up to 25% in the diet containing not greater than 14.5% crude protein can be utilized without adverse effect on feeding performance of calf-camels.

3-Methyl-2-benzothiazolinone hydrazone condensed with some selected aldehydes to give the corresponding Schiff bases. Cyclizing the obtained Schiff base derivatives with thioglycolic acid afforded the respective thiazolylideneaminothiazolidenones. Condensation of 3-methyl-2-benzothiazolinone hydrazone with ethyl cyanoacetate yielded a mixture of the bishydrazine and the cyanoacetohydrazide derivatives. Meanwhile, its condensation with ethyl acetoacetate produced a mixture of the monoketone and the β-diketone derivatives. Besides, the reaction of the starting hydrazone with malononitrile afforded a mixture of the cyanomethylylidene and cyanomethyl hydrazone derivatives beside the bishydrazine derivative. Elementary and spectroscopic measurements were in good accord with the structures postulated for the new compounds. The antitumor activities of certain selected new compounds were screened, in vitro, against a panel of four (liver, HepG2; breast, MCF-7; lung, A549; and colon; HCT116) human solid tumor cell lines. The cells that showed better activity were HepG2 and MCF-7. Structure-activity relationship (SAR) was also discussed.
