Objective: to retrospectively evaluate and compare the proportions of complications and radiographic findings of two- and three-part proximal humerus fracture osteosynthesis with two treatment methods: third-generation locked intramedullary nail and locked plate. Methods: 46 patients with a mean age of 58.9±16.6 years were evaluated between January 2020 and January 2021. In sixteen cases (34.8%), an intramedullary nail was used, and in thirty cases (65 .2%), the proximal humerus locked plate. The evaluation used included the rate of complications with a minimum follow-up of 6 months postoperatively and radiographic evaluation. Results: there was no significant difference between the groups regarding the proportion of complications (nail group 18.8%, plate group 13.3%; p=0.681). The nail group showed less residual loss in varus (cervicodiaphyseal angle, nail group 132.1º±2.3º, plate group 123.8º±10.1º; p<0.001). In the plaque group, women had a lower value (1.43±0.22) of the tuberosity-deltoid index (DTI) compared to men (1.58±0.11) (p=0.022). Conclusions: in the short-term follow-up, osteosynthesis, with locked plate and intramedullary nail, did not show differences in the proportions of complications. The nail group showed less change in the post-operative cervicodiaphyseal angle, however, there were two serious complications with cut out and varus deviation requiring a new surgical approach in the nail group.

ABSTRACT Objective to describe the adverse events found in psychiatric hospitalization, analyzing them in the light of the human error theory. Method a qualitative research study, carried out in 2018 in a psychiatric hospital. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 15 health professionals from the multidisciplinary team. Analysis was of the lexical type using the Alceste software. Results adverse drug events were evidenced due to administration errors or adverse drug reactions, which produce harms such as impregnation and extrapyramidal reactions associated with the risks for falls and bronchoaspiration due to drowsiness and/or sedation. Other harms are related to the patient's aggressiveness, which produce bodily self-harm or harms to another person, such as during a suicide attempt or use of violence as an escape or defense behavior. Conclusion and implications for the practice some adverse events are more frequent in psychiatric hospitalization settings; such events need to be known by the mental health team, as they require mitigation actions through the strengthening of patient safety systems. The data subsidize actions for strengthening safety systems in psychiatric hospitalization settings and contribute to reflecting on the concept of patient safety in Psychiatry.

ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE: Clinical and functional assessment of the surgical treatment for acute injury of the distal insertion of the biceps brachial performed with a surgical technique using a single incision in proximal forearm and fixation with suture anchors in the radial tuberosity. METHODS: This study reviewed the medical records of patients who underwent surgical treatment of distal biceps injury during the period between January 2008 and July 2014. In a mean follow-up of 12 months, 22 patients with complete and acute injury, diagnosed through physical examination and imaging studies, were functionally assessed in the postoperative period regarding the range of motion (degrees of flexion-extension and pronation-supination), the presence of pain (VAS), the Andrews Carson-score, and the Mayo Elbow Performance Score (MEPS). RESULTS: During the postoperative follow-up assessment, no patient reported pain by VAS scale; all were satisfied with the esthetic appearance of the surgery. The range of articular movement remained unchanged at 95.4% of patients, with the loss of 8° of supination in one patient. No changes in muscle strength were observed. The results of the Andrews-Carson score were good in 4.6% and excellent in 95.4% of cases; the MEPS presented 100% of excellent results. The rate of complications was 27.2%, similar to the literature. CONCLUSION: Surgical repair of acute injury of the distal biceps trough a single incision in the proximal forearm and fixation with two suture anchors in the radial tuberosity is an effective and safe therapeutic option, allowing early motion and good functional results.

Abstract Introduction Blockade of the inferior alveolar nerve is among the most used and important anesthesia in dentistry, but there are no studies that compare the electronic anesthesia (Morpheus) and traditional manual anesthesia, using a syringe Carpule. Objective To evaluate and compare two anesthesia systems with respect to pain sensitivity during and after anesthesia with lidocaine 2% associated with epinephrine 1: 100,000 in anesthetic techniques for inferior alveolar nerve. Material and method This clinical trial was performed in a randomized, crossover, double-blind, involving 30 volunteers, who required dental treatment and who underwent blockade of the lower alveolar nerve, using the syringe type Carpule in the first session and the gun controlled speed Morpheus, where it was held in two sessions, with an interval of at least two weeks between each session. At the end of each session was applied to Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) to assess pain sensitivity to injection. Result A comparison between the conventional methods revealed that induce showed higher values than the EVA Morpheus. The chi -square for expected equal proportions showed that the technique with Morpheus had a higher (p = 0.0062) preference than conventional. Conclusion Taken together, the data show that the technique employing the Morpheus was superior to conventional in 3 times. The implementation of anesthesia performed with Morpheus proved to be more comfortable, have greater acceptance and preference for volunteers.

Abstract An updated inventory of Brazilian seed plants is presented and offers important insights into the country's biodiversity. This work started in 2010, with the publication of the Plants and Fungi Catalogue, and has been updated since by more than 430 specialists working online. Brazil is home to 32,086 native Angiosperms and 23 native Gymnosperms, showing an increase of 3% in its species richness in relation to 2010. The Amazon Rainforest is the richest Brazilian biome for Gymnosperms, while the Atlantic Rainforest is the richest one for Angiosperms. There was a considerable increment in the number of species and endemism rates for biomes, except for the Amazon that showed a decrease of 2.5% of recorded endemics. However, well over half of Brazillian seed plant species (57.4%) is endemic to this territory. The proportion of life-forms varies among different biomes: trees are more expressive in the Amazon and Atlantic Rainforest biomes while herbs predominate in the Pampa, and lianas are more expressive in the Amazon, Atlantic Rainforest, and Pantanal. This compilation serves not only to quantify Brazilian biodiversity, but also to highlight areas where there information is lacking and to provide a framework for the challenge faced in conserving Brazil's unique and diverse flora.

Objective:To statistically analyze the results obtained from biomechanical tests on fixation of femoral neck fractures of Pauwels III type, in synthetic bone, using the dynamic hip system with an anti-rotation screw, versus a control group. Methods:Ten synthetic bones from a Brazilian manufacturer (model C1010) were used and divided into two groups: test and control. In the test group, fixation of an osteotomy was performed with 70° of inclination at the level of the femoral neck, using DHS with an anti-rotation screw. The resistance of this fixation was evaluated, along with its rotational deviation at 5 mm of displacement (phase 1) and at 10 mm of displacement (phase 2), which was considered to be failure of synthesis. In the control group, the models were tested in their entirety until femoral neck fracturing occurred. Results:The test values in the test group (samples 1-5) in phase 1 were: 1512N, 1439 N, 1205 N, 1251N and 1273 N, respectively (mean = 1336 N; standard deviation SD] = 132 N). The rotational deviations were: 4.90°, 3.27°, 2.62°, 0.66° and 0.66°, respectively (mean = 2.42°; SD = 1.81°). In phase 2, we obtained: 2064 N, 1895 N, 1682 N, 1713 N and 1354 N, respectively (mean = 1742 N; SD = 265N). The failure loading values in the control group were: 1544 N, 1110 N, 1359 N, 1194 N and 1437 N, respectively (mean = 1329 N; SD = 177N). The statistical analysis using the Mann-Whitney test showed that the test group presented maximum loading at a displacement of 10 mm, i.e. significantly greater than the failure loading of the control group (p = 0.047).Conclusion:The mechanical resistance of the test group was significantly greater than that of the control group.

Objective: To evaluate the impact of enzyme replacement therapy for Gaucher Disease on clinical and laboratory parameters after two, five and ten years of treatment. Methods: Data were collected from patient records and analyzed using BioEstat software (version 5.0). Student's t-test, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Wilcoxon test and Kruskal–Wallis test were used for statistical analysis. Hepatomegaly and splenomegaly were analyzed using the Kappa test. Results: There was a significant increase in hemoglobin levels (p-value <0.01) and platelet counts (p-value = 0.01) within two years of therapy. At the same time, the frequencies of splenomegaly (p-value <0.01) and hepatomegaly (p-value <0.05) reduced. These results were similar at five and ten years of enzyme replacement therapy. Conclusions: There are substantial and quick (within two years) laboratory and clinical responses to enzyme replacement therapy. These improvements continue as long as enzyme replacement therapy is administered every two weeks, as recommended by the literature.

Objective: To analyze statistically results in biomechanical testing of fixation of femoral neck Pauwels type III fractures, on synthetic bone, with dynamic condylar screw (DCS) and control group. Methods: Ten synthetic bones of a national brand were used. Test Group: fixation was performed after osteotomy at 70o tilt using DCS plate with four holes. We analyzed the resistance of this fixation with 5 mm displacement and rotational deviation (Step 1) and with10 mm (Step 2). Control group: the models were tested in their integrity until the femoral neck fracture occurred. Results: The values of the test group in Step 1 showed a mean of 974N and SD = 114N. In Stage 2, we obtained on average 1335N and SD = 98N. The values in the control group were: 1544N, 1110N, 1359N, 1194N, 1437N, respectively. Statistical analysis using the Mann-Whitney test for comparison of the maximum force (N) between the test group and the control, in Step 2, demonstrated that there is no significant difference between the DCS and control plates (p = 0.91).Conclusion: There is no significant difference between the DCS boards and the control group exposed to full resistance. Level of Evidence III, Case Control.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the results of biomechanical assays of fixation of Pauwels type III femoral neck fracture in synthetic bone, using 7.5mm cannulated screws in inverted triangle formation, in relation to the control group. METHODS: Ten synthetic bones were used, from a domestic brand, divided into two groups: test and control. In the test group, a 70° tilt osteotomy of the femoral neck was fixated using three cannulated screws in inverted triangle formation. The resistance of this fixation and its rotational deviation were analyzed at 5mm displacement (phase 1) and 10mm displacement (phase 2). The control group was tested in its integrity until the fracture of the femoral neck occurred. The Mann-Whitney test was used for group analysis and comparison. RESULTS: The values in the test group in phase 1, in samples 1-5, showed a mean of 579N and SD =77N. Rotational deviations showed a mean of 3.33°, SD = 2.63°. In phase 2, the mean was 696N and SD =106N. The values of the maximum load in the control group had a mean of 1329N and SD=177N. CONCLUSION: The analysis of mechanical strength between the groups determined a statistically significant lower value in the test group. Level of Evidence III, Control Case.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Tooth extraction is practiced since the early days of mankind to surgically solve dental problems. However, as any surgical procedure, it promotes an inflammatory reaction with clinical presentation of pain. Several drugs have been used to minimize postoperative discomfort; however there is still no established protocol for its control. This study aimed at evaluating the analgesic effect of lysine and paracetamol to control post tooth extraction pain. METHOD: Double blind randomized study with 40 patients seen by the Surgical Outpatient Setting I, Dentistry Department, Federal University of Sergipe (DOD/UFS), who needed alveolar extractions in different hemiarcades using lysine (125 mg) three times a day or paracetamol (750 mg) four times a day, both during three postoperative days. Pain was evaluated at 24 and 48 hours with the visual analog scale. Data were submitted to Student's t and Friedman statistical tests. RESULTS: There have been no statistically significant differences in age, gender and pain intensity. CONCLUSION: Both lysine and paracetamol were effective to control post tooth extraction pain.

Along several years, at the Laboratory of Plant Bacteriology and Biological Control of the Department of Plant Pathology of the Federal University of Viçosa, thousands of prokaryote isolates have been obtained from the rhizosphere, rhizoplane and phylloplane of economically important plants. Every obtained isolate is tested as biocontrol agents. As expected, the majority does not show any biocontrol potentiality and is discarded. Few are selected through time-consuming experimental biocontrol trials in greenhouse and field. Even being selected mainly for their ability to induce resistance in target plants, many of them constitutively express mechanisms of antagonism against pathogens that seem to be part of their performance while biocontrol agents.
