ABSTRACT: Porcine enzootic pneumonia (PES), mainly caused by the bacteria Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae, is the main cause of respiratory problems in pigs. Infection by M. hyopneumoniae leads to production losses and the predisposition of affected animals to secondary infections, which may result in the condemnation of carcasses and organs due to lung lesions at the time of slaughter. The objective of the research was to evaluate the infection by M. hyopneumoniae in pigs submitted to slaughter in São Luís Island/MA, using molecular and histopathological diagnostic methods. One hundred fifty lung samples were collected from inspected (n=65) and non-inspected (n=85) slaughter pigs on São Luís Island, Maranhão, from July 2019 to August 2021. Of the 150 DNA samples collected, 121 showed an amplified product for Cyt B in the PCR assay. Thus, 121 samples were submitted to qPCR of M. hyopneumoniae, of which 44 (36.36%) showed positive results. The mean amount of bacterial load ranged from 1.20 × 101 to 7.20 × 104, with a mean of 1.73 × 104 copies. Of the reagent samples, 81.81% (36 samples) were obtained from non-inspected slaughter, while 18.18% (8 samples) were obtained from slaughterhouses. In the histopathological analysis, 44 positive qPCR samples were evaluated, of which 28 (63.63%) presented results compatible with the main inflammatory process associated with the presence of M. hyopneumoniae, that is, bronchial-associated lymphoid tissue hyperplasia (BALT). Three samples that showed the highest bacterial load (qPCR: 5.63 × 10³, 2.19 × 104 and 7.23 × 104) showed more evident lesions in this study. The microscopic findings associated with the quantifications indicated a relationship between the amount of bacterial load and the presence of microscopic lesions; higher bacterial load in lung tissue is associated with increased histopathologic staining for BALT hyperplasia. In conclusion, the results point to the circulation of the etiological agent in the sampled animals and the need for preventive measures on pig farms in Maranhão with the involvement of producers, sanitary defense and inspection agencies.

RESUMO: A pneumonia enzoótica suína (PES), causada principalmente pela bactéria Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae, é a principal causa de problemas respiratórios em suínos. A infecção por M. hyopneumoniae leva a perdas produtivas e a predisposição dos animais acometidos a infecções secundárias, o que pode resultar em condenação de carcaças e órgãos por lesões pulmonares no momento do abate. O objetivo da pesquisa foi avaliar a infecção por M. hyopneumoniae em suínos submetidos ao abate na Ilha de São Luís, por meio de métodos diagnósticos moleculares e histopatológicos. Para isso, foram coletadas 150 amostras de pulmão de suínos de abate inspecionado (n=65) e não inspecionado (n=85) na Ilha de São Luís/Maranhão, no período de julho de 2019 a agosto de 2021. Das 150 amostras de DNA coletadas, 121 apresentaram produto amplificado para Cyt B no ensaio de PCR. Assim, 121 amostras foram submetidas à qPCR de M. hyopneumoniae, das quais 44 (36,36%) apresentaram resultados positivos. A quantidade média de carga bacteriana variou de 1,20 × 101 a 7,20 × 104, com média de 1,73 × 104 cópias. Das amostras reagentes, 81,81% (36 amostras) foram obtidas de abate não inspecionado, enquanto 18,18% (8 amostras) foram obtidas em abatedouro. Na análise histopatológica, foram avaliadas 44 amostras positivas para qPCR, das quais 28 (63,63%) apresentaram resultados compatíveis com o principal processo inflamatório associado à presença de M. hyopneumoniae, ou seja, hiperplasia do tecido linfóide associado ao brônquio (BALT). Três amostras que apresentaram maior carga bacteriana (qPCR: 5,63 × 10³, 2,19 × 104 e 7,23 × 104) foram mais evidentes neste estudo. Os achados microscópicos associados às quantificações indicaram uma relação entre a quantidade de carga bacteriana e a presença de lesão microscópica; a maior carga bacteriana no tecido pulmonar está associada a maior alteração histopatológica para hiperplasia BALT. Em conclusão, os resultados obtidos sinalizam para a circulação do agente etiológico nos animais amostrados e a necessidade de medidas preventivas nas criações de suínos do estado do Maranhão com envolvimento dos produtores, órgãos de defesa sanitária e inspeção.

Resumo Este estudo objetivou realizar o levantamento florístico e atualizar a distribuição geográfica das espécies de Portulacaceae ocorrentes no estado do Ceará, Nordeste do Brasil. As expedições de campo para coleta e observações das espécies foram realizadas no período de Março/2015 a Março/2021. Seis espécies de Portulaca foram registradas no estado do Ceará, sendo identificadas principalmente pelo hábito, forma e margem das folhas, coloração das flores, forma do opérculo e ornamentação da semente. Todas as espécies ocorrem em Unidades de Conservação no estado: P. elatior, P. halimoides, P. mucronata, P. oleracea, P. pilosa e P. umbraticola. A maior riqueza foi encontrada na Savana Estépica, onde todas as espécies foram registradas. Portulaca halimoides apresentou a mais ampla distribuição no Ceará, com 17 registros, ocorrendo em vários tipos de vegetação, especialmente na Savana Estépica. Portulaca mucronata foi registrada exclusivamente em Savana Estépica, sendo a espécie com o menor número de registros. Aqui são apresentados chave de identificação, descrições, comentários sobre as relações taxonômicas, dados fenológicos e fotografias das espécies.

Abstract This study aimed to carry out a floristic inventory and update the geographical distribution of Portulacaceae species that occur in the state of Ceará, Northeast Region of Brazil. The field expeditions for collection and observation of species were realized between March/2015 and March/2021. Six species of Portulaca have been recorded in the state of Ceará, being identified mainly by habit, margin and leaf shape, flower coloration, operculum shape, and seed ornamentation. All species occur in Conservation Units in the state of Ceará: P. elatior, P. halimoides, P. mucronata, P. oleracea, P. pilosa and P. umbraticola. The highest floristic richness was found in the Stepic Savanna, where all species were recorded. Portulaca halimoides had the widest distribution in Ceará, with 17 records, occurring in various vegetation types, especially in the Stepic Savanna. Portulaca mucronata was registered exclusively in Stepic Savanna, being the species with the lowest number of records. Identification key, descriptions, comments about the species, taxonomic relationships, phenological data and photographs of the species are presented here.

There is a dearth of scientific information about the physicochemical characteristics of eggs from ratite birds including emus. Thus, an experiment was carried out with 19 laying emu ((Dromaius novaehollandiae) hens, maintained in cages, and divided into two groups according to age, to record morphometric and physicochemical characteristics of the eggs. The width, length, average weight, form index, Haugh unit, yolk index, percentage of egg components, yolk pigmentation, pH of yolk and albumen, and eggshell weight and thickness were recorded. This morphometric characterization was influenced by the age of the hen. Neither the yolk nor albumen pH was influenced by the age of the bird. The eggs from emus that were raised in captivity presented physical and morphometric characteristics that varied with age, although they remained within the ranges of observations that were previously observed for ratite species, but were different from those of domestic chickens. The high fragility and easy rupture of the vitelline membrane in the emu eggs may limit the use of this product in industrial applications. Further studies of emu eggs are needed to improve their suitability for consumption and for the food industry.

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi descrever o desempenho reprodutivo de emus de diferentes idades, agrupados em casais ou em colônias, no Brasil. A duração da estação reprodutiva e a produção de ovos por fêmea alojada foram registradas, a produtividade e as variáveis reprodutivas foram associadas às variações no fotoperíodo. A produção total do lote de aves foi de 180 ovos, e a estação reprodutiva durou 167 dias (abril-setembro), período que apresentou fotoperíodo médio de 11 horas e 11 minutos. Nos grupos de aves de dois, quatro e sete anos de idade, a estação reprodutiva durou 113,, 133 e 82 dias, o número de ovos por fêmea foi de 7,29, 25,67 e 17,3 e a produtividade foi de 31,6, 38,6 e 45,4%, respectivamente. A estação reprodutiva em 2016 ocorreu entre abril e agosto no Brasil. Aves mais velhas tenderam a iniciar o período reprodutivo mais tarde. As observações na taxa de produção podem indicar que quanto mais precoce o pico produtivo, menor o potencial de produção de ovos em emus. Houve a tendência ao melhor desempenho reprodutivo das aves alojadas em casais em comparação com as alojadas em colônias.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to describe emus’ breeding performance in Brazil at different ages, grouped in couples or colonies. The duration of the breeding season and the production of eggs per female housed were recorded, and the productivity and breeding variables were associated with the variation of the photoperiod. The total production of the flock was 180 eggs, and the breeding season lasted 167 days (April-September), a period with an average of 11 h and 11min of daylight. The breeding season lasted 113, 133 and 82 days, the numbers of eggs produced per female were 7.29, 25.67 and 17.3, and productivity values were 31.6, 38.6, and 45.4% in the groups of birds with ages of two, four and seven years, respectively. The breeding season in 2016 occurred between April and August in Brazil. Older birds tended to start breeding later. The production rate observations indicated that earlier peak production was associated with lower egg production potential. Finally, there was a tendency for better breeding performance of birds housed in couples than in groups with more birds.

Resumo Apresentamos o tratamento florístico das espécies de Terminalia ocorrentes no estado do Maranhão. Este estudo foi baseado na análise de herbários nacionais e internacionais. Seis espécies foram registradas para o estado: Terminalia actinophylla, T. amazonia, T. dichotoma, T. fagifolia, T. glabrescens e T. lucida, sendo uma endêmica do Brasil. Os táxons foram registrados, preferencialmente em ambientes secos de Savana (cerrado). Apenas as espécies: Terminalia fagifolia e T. lucida ocorrem em unidades de conservação no Maranhão, especificamente nos Parque Estadual do Mirador, Parque Nacional da Chapada das Mesas e Santuário Ecológico Pedra Caída. Além das descrições morfológicas, o estudo inclui chave de identificação, ilustrações e comentários sobre afinidades taxonômicas, distribuição geográfica, ecologia, status de conservação e fenologia das espécies.

Abstract We present the floristic treatment of the Terminalia species occurring in the state of Maranhão. This study was based on the analysis of national and international herbaria. Six species were recorded from the state: Terminalia actinophylla, T. amazonia, T. dichotoma, T. fagifolia, T. glabrescens, and T. lucida, with one endemic (T. actinophylla) to Brazil. Taxa were commonly recorded in dry Savanna environments (cerrado). Only the species Terminalia fagifolia and T. lucida occur in conservation units in Maranhão, specifically in Mirador State Park, Chapada das Mesas National Park and Ecological Sanctuary of Pedra Caída. In addition to morphological descriptions, this study includes an identification key, illustrations, and comments about taxonomic affinities, geographical distribution, ecology, conservation status, and phenology of the species.

Resumo Este trabalho apresenta o tratamento florístico-taxonômico para as espécies de Terminalia ocorrentes no estado do Piauí. O estudo foi baseado em análise de exsicatas depositadas em herbários nacionais e internacionais, bem como em observações realizadas em campo. Para o estado foram registradas sete espécies: Terminalia actinophylla, T. amazonia, T. argentea, T. eichleriana, T. fagifolia, T. glabrescens e T. lucida, sendo duas endêmicas do Brasil. Os táxons foram registrados, em geral, em ambientes secos de Savana (cerrado) e Savana estépica (caatinga). Destaca-se, ainda, que 57% (4 spp.) das espécies de Terminalia ocorrem em unidades de conservação do Piauí. O estudo fornece descrições morfológicas, chave de identificação, prancha fotográfica, ilustrações e comentários sobre as espécies.

Resumo Apresentamos o levantamento florístico dos representantes de Aristolochiacaeae Juss. s.s. no estado do Ceará, como parte do projeto “Flora do Ceará: conhecer para conservar”. Esse estudo foi baseado na análise comparativa dos caracteres morfológicos de espécimes depositados nos herbários ALCB, EAC, ESA, HUEFS, P, RB e SP, bibliografias especializadas e imagens de materiais-tipo. Para o Ceará foram registradas seis espécies de Aristolochia: A. birostris, A. disticha, A. elegans, A. holostylis, A. labiata e A. papillaris. As espécies no estado ocorrem preferencialmente em vegetação de savana (cerrado) e savana estépica (caatinga), com alguns registros em floresta ombrófila densa, estacional decidual e estacional semidecidual das terras baixas. Aristolochia disticha é nova ocorrência para o Ceará. Duas espécies foram registradas em Unidades de Conservação no estado.

Abstract We present here a floristic survey of representatives of Aristolochiaceae Juss. s.s. occurring in Ceará State, Brazil, as part of the Project “Flora of Ceará: knowing for conserving”. The study was based on the comparative analyses of the morphological characters of specimens deposited in the ALCB, EAC, ESA, HUEFS, P, RB and SP herbaria, the specialized bibliography, and photo-type material. Six species of Aristolochia were recorded for Ceará: A. birostris, A. disticha, A. elegans, A. holostylis, A. labiata and A. papillaris. The species occur preferentially in savanna (cerrado) and savanna steppe (caatinga) vegetation, but some were reported in ombrophilous dense, seasonal deciduous and semi-deciduous lowland forests. Aristolochia disticha is a new occurrence for Ceará State. Two species were recorded in Conservation Areas in the state.

Resumo Maytenus s.l. é um gênero da família Celastraceae e muitas de suas espécies são utilizadas na medicina tradicional. Grande parte das substâncias responsáveis pelas atividades biológicas das plantas provém do seu metabolismo secundário, como terpenoides e flavonoides, que desempenham múltiplas funções na planta e podem ocorrer de forma semelhante em grupos vegetais. A quimiofenética analisa a ocorrência dessas substâncias em um táxon e pode inferir sobre tendências evolutivas e contribuir na busca racional por novos fármacos. Foram utilizados parâmetros quimiossistemáticos para análise dos dados encontrados através de levantamento bibliográfico. As espécies de Maytenus s.l. foram separadas em três grupos: espécies com nomes aceitos, espécies sinonimizadas com o gênero Monteverdia e espécies sinonimizadas com o gênero Gymnosporia. Devido à sua grande ocorrência e variedade estrutural nas espécies de Maytenus s.l., os triterpenos foram escolhidos como marcadores quimiossistemáticos, sendo os triterpenos friedelanos e quinonametídeos os mais expressivos. Estudos já demonstraram o potencial analgésico de quinonametídeos e o potencial antitumoral de triterpenos fenólicos e dímeros dessas unidades. Juntas, as três classes auxiliam na circunscrição de Maytenus s.s. e Monteverdia, enquanto os lupanos podem ser utilizados na separação destes gêneros. Os oleananos são representativos em Gymnosporia.

Abstract Maytenus s.l. is a genus of the Celastraceae family and many of its species are used in traditional medicine. Most of the substances responsible for the biological activities of plants come from their secondary metabolism, such as terpenoids and flavonoids, which have multiple functions in the plant and can occur in a similar way in plant groups. Chemophenetics analyzes the occurrence of these substances in a taxon and can infer evolutionary trends and contribute to the rational search for new drugs. Chemosystematic parameters were used to analyze the data obtained through a bibliographic survey. The species of Maytenus s.l. were separated into three groups: species with accepted names, synonymous species with the genus Monteverdia and synonymous species with the genus Gymnosporia. Due to their great occurrence and structural variety in Maytenus s.l., triterpenes were chosen as chemosystematic markers, with friedelanes and quinone methide triterpenes being the most expressive types. Studies have already demonstrated the analgesic potential of quinone methides and the antitumor potential of phenolic triterpenes and dimers of these units. Together, the three classes assist in the circumscription of Maytenus s.s. and Monteverdia, while lupanes can be used in the separation of these genera. Oleanans are representative of Gymnosporia.

Abstract Sildenafil is a potent selective inhibitor of phosphosdiesterase-5 previously used in erectile dysfunction and subsequently approved in 2005 for pulmonary arterial hypertension treatment. Since oral administration of sildenafil shows pharmacokinetic problems with mean absolute bioavailability of 41%, the goal of this work was to develop a novel sildenafil self-emulsifying drug delivery system (SEDDS) for oral absorption improvement and management of dosage. One pharmaceutical solution and four SEDDS containing sildenafil were successfully obtained and SEDDS formed O/W nanoemulsion with droplet size less than 300 nm. The stability studies evidenced that the SEDDS containing 3.3% w/w of sildenafil yielded the best results. The safety of 2-pyrrolidone/isobutanol in oral formulations was assessed in mice and no lethality was achieved in the placebo groups with LD50 of 490 mg/Kg for SEDDS II-3.3, suggesting it as a safe excipient for humans. Therewithal, in silico studies using PBPK models provided the pharmacokinetic profile of sildenafil SEDDS. Subsequently, in silico evaluation indicated that the sildenafil SEDDS droplet size influenced its bioavailability, enhancing absorption, assuring a good pharmacokinetic profile. These findings suggest that the formulations developed here presented the potential to enhance drug oral absorption with the possibility to control drug dosage as they are liquid pharmaceutical formulations.

Abstract The production of vegetable crops has been characterized as a highly intensive activity in the use of soil, water, inputs and labor in semi-arid regions, being practiced mostly by small family farmers as a way of subsistence, or in the small-scale commercialization of surplus production. Among the agricultural practices that have been successfully used by vegetable producers are intercrop systems that, when implemented with adequate management, present gains in productivity, nutritional, economic, and environmental value. The aim of this study was to estimate the optimal plot sizes of plantings of carrot (Daucus carota L.) intercropped with arugula (Eruca sativa L.) in bi-cultivation in three spatial arrangements, as well as to determine bio-agroeconomic revenues from associations between these vegetable crops in a semi-arid region. Estimates of optimal sizes of experimental plots in intercropping systems, provided by the methods of bootstrap resampling and of sampling intensity (10%), were four, four and three basic units, respectively, for the spatial arrangements 2R:2C, 3R:3C, and 4R: 4C, between rows of arugula (R) intercropped with carrot (C), and by the Hatheway method, all spatial arrangements were of four basic units. The best bio-agroeconomic performance of carrot intercropped with arugula in bi-cultivation was obtained in the spatial arrangement 2R:2C.

Os óleos voláteis extraídos das raízes de Polygala extraaxillaris foram analisados para avaliar se aumentam o estresse oxidativo em Brachiaria decumbens var. Piatã e, posteriormente, estimar o seu efeito na divisão celular e citotoxicidade em laboratório. Foram utilizadas seis concentrações (0%, 0,35%, 0,65%, 1,25%, 0,65% e 5,0%), com quatro repetições de 25 sementes. A substância 1 - (2-hidroxifenil) - etanona foi identificado como o principal constituinte dos óleos voláteis. Os resultados mostraram que as concentrações mais elevadas dos óleos causaram aumento no estresse oxidativo em B. decumbens e também alteraram a germinação e o crescimento, com consequente redução no processo de divisão celular, levando alterações no padrão de crescimento e defesa antioxidante.

The volatile oils extracted from the roots of Polygala extraaxillaris were analyzed to assess whether they increase oxidative stress in Brachiaria decumbens var. Piatã, as well as to assess their effect on cellular division and cytotoxicity in laboratory. Six concentrations were used (0%, 0.35%, 0.65%, 1.25%, 0.65%, and 5.0%) with four repetitions of 25 seeds. The substance 1-(2-hydroxyphenyl) - ethanone was identified as the major constituent of the volatile oils. The results showed that the highest concentrations of the oils resulted in an increase in the oxidative stress in B. decumbens, as well as alteration in germination and growth, with a consequent reduction in the process of cellular division, causing changes in the growth standard and antioxidant defense.

This study aimed to analyze the effects of metabolizable energy levels and the age at slaughter on growth performance, carcass yield and cuts broilers Caipira French Barré. The experiment was conducted in Parauapebas, PA. We used 192 one day chicks reared in intensive system. The experimental design was completely randomized with three treatments. Each treatment consisted of four replications, the experimental unit being a box of 16 birds. The treatments were defined according to the levels of metabolizable energy diets (1 to 28 days) and late (29 to 90 days),respectively: T1 - 3000 and 3100 kcal of ME/kg, T2 - 3100 and 3200 kcal/kg, T3 - 3200 and 3300 kcal of ME/kg. The variables studied were initial weight, final weight, feed intake and feed conversion, protein consumed, metabolized protein consumed, energy efficiency and protein efficiency. The characteristics of carcasses of birds, analyzed with 77, 84 and 91 days of age were the carcass, breast, thigh, drumstick, wing, back, wings, feet, head and neck. The statistical analysis was performed using the ANOVA procedure for a completely randomized model with the System for statistical analysis and genetics (SAEG, 2007). Differences between means of variables were performed by Tukey's test at a level of 5%. The energy levels in the diets did not affect on the performance and carcass yield, breast, thighs, drumsticks, wings, feet and head + neck in birds. The level of 3200 kcal/kg provided better yield back. The protein and metabolic energy consumed by the birds improved with higher energy content of feed during the fattening stage. Age at slaughter did not affect carcass yield, however the birds slaughtered at 90 days of age showed higher breast yield.

Objetivou-se analisar os efeitos dos níveis de energia metabolizável e da idade de abate sobre o desempenho zootécnico, rendimento de carcaça e cortes de frangos da linhagem Caipira Francês Barré. O experimento foi conduzido em galpão experimental localizado em Parauapebas, PA. Foram utilizados 192 pintos, mistos, de 1 dia, criados em sistema intensivo. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi inteiramente casualizado, com 3 tratamentos. Cada tratamento foi formado de 4 repetições, sendo a unidade experimental 1 box de 16 aves. Os tratamentos foram definidos de acordo com os níveis de energia metabolizável das rações inicial (1 a 28 dias) e final (29 a 90 dias), respectivamente: T1 - 3000 e 3100 kcal de EM/kg; T2 - 3100 e 3200 kcal de EM/kg; T3 - 3200 e 3300 kcal de EM/kg. As variáveis estudadas foram peso inicial, peso final, consumo de ração e conversão alimentar, proteína bruta consumida, proteína metabolizada consumida, eficiência energética e eficiência protéica. As características de carcaças das aves, analisadas com 77, 84 e 91 dias de idade, foram o rendimento de carcaça, peito, coxas, sobrecoxas, asa, dorso, asas, pés, cabeça e pescoço. A análise estatística dos dados foi realizada utilizando o procedimento ANOVA, para um modelo inteiramente casualizado, com o programa Sistema para análise estatística e genética (SAEG, 2007). As diferenças entre as médias das variáveis estudadas foram realizadas pelo Teste de Tukey a um nível de 5%. Os níveis de energia nas dietas não interferiram no desempenho zootécnico e no rendimento de carcaça, peito, coxas, sobrecoxas, asas, pés e cabeça + pescoço das aves. O nível de 3200 kcal de EM/kg proporcionou melhor rendimento de dorso. A proteína bruta e a energia metabolizada consumida pelas aves melhoraram com o incremento energético da ração, durante a fase de engorda. A idade de abate não influenciou no rendimento de carcaça, entretanto as aves abatidas aos 90 dias de idade apresentaram maior rendimento de peito.

Lolium multiflorum (Lm) grass pollen is the major cause of pollinosis in Southern Brazil. The objectives of this study were to investigate immunodominant components of Lm pollen allergens and the cross-reactivity of IgE with commercial grass pollen allergen extracts. Thirty-eight serum samples from patients with seasonal allergic rhinitis (SAR), 35 serum samples from patients with perennial allergic rhinitis (PAR) and 30 serum samples from non-atopic subjects were analyzed. Allergen sensitization was evaluated using skin prick test and serum IgE levels against Lm pollen extract were determined by ELISA. Inhibition ELISA and immunoblot were used to evaluate the cross-reactivity of IgE between allergens from Lm and commercial grass pollen extracts, including L. perenne (Lp), grass mix I (GI) and II (GII) extracts. IgE antibodies against Lm were detected in 100% of SAR patients and 8.6% of PAR patients. Inhibition ELISA demonstrated IgE cross-reactivity between homologous (Lm) and heterologous (Lp or GII) grass pollen extracts, but not for the GI extract. Fifteen IgE-binding Lm components were detected and immunoblot bands of 26, 28-30, and 32-35 kDa showed >90% recognition. Lm, Lp and GII extracts significantly inhibited IgE binding to the most immunodominant Lm components, particularly the 55 kDa band. The 26 kDa and 90-114 kDa bands presented the lowest amount of heterologous inhibition. We demonstrated that Lm extract contains both Lm-specific and cross-reactive IgE-binding components and therefore it is suitable for measuring quantitative IgE levels for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes in patients with pollinosis sensitized to Lm grass pollen rather than other phylogenetically related grass pollen extracts.

A dioctofimose é uma parasitose renal causada pelo nematóide Dioctophyma renale conhecida por gerar a destruição progressiva do parênquima renal. Anelídeos de água doce são considerados os principais hospedeiros intermediários e a literatura refere como hospedeiros definitivos cães domésticos, mamíferos selvagens e até seres humanos. Durante procedimentos de controle populacional de quatis (Nasua nasua) no Parque Ecológico do Tietê (PET), evidenciou-se a presença do parasitismo por D. renale. Sessenta e oito animais foram submetidos à laparotomia, machos e fêmeas, jovens e adultos, dos quais 51 foram positivos para presença do parasita. Em 9 animais o parasita esteve presente apenas no rim direito; em 10 animais D. renale parasitava o rim direito e a cavidade abdominal simultaneamente. Em outros 24 quatis o parasita foi encontrado apenas na cavidade abdominal e em 8 animais o rim direito foi reduzido apenas a uma pequena estrutura rígida. O estudo demonstrou que para este hospedeiro (Nasua nasua), o rim direito não parece ser local de escolha do parasita, já que o encontro do verme em 66,6% dos casos foi a cavidade abdominal.

Dioctophymosis is a worldwide renal parasitosis caused by the Dioctophyma renale nematode, which results in progressive destruction of renal tissue. Aquatics annelids are considered the main intermediate hosts and the literature refers as permanent hosts of dogs, wild mammals and even humans. During procedures for population control of coatis (Nasua nasua) in the Ecological Park of Tietê (PET), was noticed the presence of parasitosis by D. renale. From 68 animals, males and females, young and adults, submitted to exploratory laparotomy, 51 were positive for the presence of worms, 9 were found only in the right kidney. In 10 cases, in addition to right kidney parasitism, worms were also observed in the abdominal cavity. In 24 cases D. renale was found only in the abdominal cavity and in 8 animals the right kidney was reduced to a small rigid structure. The study showed that the preferred site for parasitism of the worm, considered erratic, was the abdominal cavity in 66.66% of the cases.
