Resumo O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar os fatores relacionados à saúde mental dos agentes comunitários de saúde (ACS) no contexto da COVID-19. Participaram 1.935 ACS de quatro capitais nordestinas e de quatro cidades do interior do Ceará. Foram coletados dados sociodemográficos e profissiográficos; SRQ-20; WHOQOL-Bref; exposição à violência; Escala de Autoeficácia Geral (EAEG); Escala Multidimensional de Suporte Social Percebido (MSPSS); informações relacionadas à COVID-19 e Escala de Ansiedade para Coronavírus (EAC). 40,5% exibiram SRQ > 7, sinalizando altos níveis de transtornos mentais comuns (TMC)/problemas de saúde mental. Utilizou-se a regressão linear múltiplas (backward). Observou-se que o aumento de risco de TCM foi influenciado pelos seguintes fatores: exposição à violência; EAC; não saber se teve COVID-19; desconhecer as variáveis que diminuíam o risco; os domínios físico e psicológico do WHOQOL-Bref; não ter aumento da jornada de trabalho; e não ter tido COVID-19. Os dados revelam a dinâmica multidimensional da saúde mental e ajudam a compreender a relação entre violência comunitária, COVID-19, qualidade de vida, idade e tempo de atuação na ESF com a saúde mental dos ACS.

Abstract This study aimed to analyze the factors related to the mental health of Community Health Workers (ACS) in the COVID-19 context. A total of 1,935 ACS from four Northeastern capitals and four cities in the inland region of Ceará participated. The following data were collected: sociodemographic; professional; SRQ-20; WHOQOL-Bref, exposure to violence, General Self-Efficacy Scale (EAEG), Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), COVID-19-related information, and the coronavirus anxiety scale (EAC). Approximately 40.5% had SRQ > 7, signaling high levels of Common Mental Disorders (CMD)/mental health issues. We adopted the Multiple linear (backward) regression. We observed that the increased risk of CMD was influenced by exposure to violence, EAC, not knowing they had COVID-19, not knowing the variables that reduced the risk, the physical and psychological domains of the WHOQOL-Bref, not having increased working hours, and not having had COVID-19. The data reveal the multidimensional dynamics of mental health and help understand the relationship between community violence, COVID-19, quality of life, age, and ESF working time with the mental health of ACS.

ABSTRACT Objective: This randomized crossover trial evaluated periodontal indexes of two types of 3 x 3 retainers (a modified 0.032-in SS V-loop retainer and a conventional 0.0215-in SS coaxial wire retainer) after bonded for six months. Also, bonded failure rate, and a questionnaire about comfort, ease of cleaning and overall preference were recorded. Material and Methods: 15 patients were enrolled in this study who used both retainers for six months each, having a 15-day wash-out interval between each bonded retainer usage. The following periodontal index were recorded: Plaque Index (PI), Calculus Index (CI) and Gingival Index (GI). Patients answered a questionnaire to assess comfort, ease of cleaning and overall retainer-type preference. Rate of bonding failure was also evaluated. Results: V-Loop retainer showed higher PI (P<0.05) as compared to conventional 0.0215-in coaxial wire retainer. However, CI and GI presented no statistically significant differences between both types of retainers. The conventional 0.0215-in coaxial wire retainer was chosen as the most comfortable (p<0.05), although no statistically significant differences were found for all other questionnaire answers. Bonding failure events were more observed in the 3x3 V-Loop retainer (p<0.002), as compared to the conventional 0.0215-in coaxial retainer. Conclusion: V-Loop retainer showed higher PI (p<0.05), higher bonding failure rate and less comfortable, as compared to conventional 0.0215-in coaxial wire.

RESUMO Objetivo: Este estudo cruzado e randomizado avaliou os índices periodontais de dois tipos de contenções 3x3 (uma contenção aço V-Loop de 0,032” modificada e uma contenção convencional de fio coaxial aço de 0,0215”) após colagem, por seis meses. Além disso, foram registradas a taxa de falha na colagem e um questionário sobre conforto, facilidade de limpeza e preferência geral. Material e Métodos: Foram incluídos nesse estudo 15 pacientes que usaram ambas as contenções por seis meses cada, com intervalo de quinze dias entre cada contenção fixa. Foram registrados os seguintes índices periodontais: Índice de Placa (IP), Índice de Cálculo (IC) e Índice Gengival (IG). Os pacientes responderam a um questionário para avaliar o conforto, a facilidade de limpeza e a preferência geral pelo tipo de contenção. A taxa de falha de colagem também foi avaliada. Resultados: A contenção V-Loop apresentou maior IP (p<0,05) em comparação ao fio coaxial convencional. Entretanto, IC e IG não apresentaram diferenças estatisticamente significativas entre as contenções testadas. A contenção convencional de fio coaxial 0,0215” foi escolhida como a mais confortável (p<0,05), embora não tenham sido encontradas diferenças estatisticamente significativas para todas as outras respostas do questionário. Eventos de falha de colagem foram mais observados na contenção V-Loop 3 x 3 (p<0,002) em comparação com a contenção coaxial convencional de 0,0215”. Conclusão: A contenção V-Loop apresentou maior IP (p<0,05), maior taxa de falha de colagem e foi menos confortável em comparação ao fio coaxial convencional 0,0215”.

ABSTRACT Given the recalcitrant nature of peach palm seeds, which results in high sensitivity to desiccation, more effective approaches to seed quality monitoring are extremely important and justify the need to provide an efficient method to determine their moisture content. For seeds which are considered to be larger (thousand seed weight > 200 g), seed preparation is required, but it is impractical owing to endocarp hardness. The objective of this work was to compare methods of evaluating the moisture content of peach palm seeds, aiming to identify an straightforward method for the species. Different seed preparation and drying methods (oven method at 105 ± 3 °C, low temperature at 103 ± 2 °C, and high temperature at 130 ± 2 °C) were tested. For all methods tested, the beginning of weighing took place after the first hour, and continued until the mass of each repetition became constant for two consecutive measurements. The data were analyzed by nonlinear quadratic plateau regression to evaluate the stabilization period of water content. Thus, the oven method at 130 °C for four hours (with whole seeds) is recommended.

RESUMO O comportamento altamente recalcitrante das sementes de pupunheira justifica a adequação de um método eficiente para determinação do seu teor de água, uma vez que estas são sensíveis à dessecação. Visto que as sementes de pupunha são consideradas grandes (peso de mil sementes > 200 g) os métodos atuais de determinação do teor de água exigem preparo das sementes, o que é inviabilizado devido a resistência do endocarpo. O objetivo deste trabalho foi comparar diferentes métodos de determinação do teor de água de sementes de pupunheira, visando identificar o mais eficiente para a espécie. Foram testadas diferentes formas de preparo da semente e métodos de secagem. Para todos os tratamentos testados, o início da pesagem ocorreu após a primeira hora, continuando até que a massa de cada repetição se tornasse constante por duas medidas consecutivas. Os dados foram analisados por uma regressão não linear quadrática em platô para avaliar o período de estabilização do teor de água. Assim, o método de estufa a 130 ºC durante quatro horas (com sementes inteiras) é recomendado.

Abstract Several phytogeographic regions (Cerrado, Pantanal, Atlantic Forest, Gran Chaco, and Chiquitano Dry Forests) converge in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, and influence regional biodiversity. Despite a list of birds in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul being published by Nunes et al. (2017), it is necessary to update and critically review avifauna records. In this study, we gathered the results of several records obtained from species lists and online data platforms of the 336 sites in this state over the last decades and grouped them into Main (Primary and Secondary) and Tertiary Lists. The avifauna of Mato Grosso do Sul is composed of 678 species, of which 643 (95%) have records proving their occurrence (Primary List), whereas 34 still lack documentation (Secondary List). The number of related species for Mato Grosso do Sul represents 34% of the Brazilian avifauna. Some species stand out for their unique occurrence in Mato Grosso do Sul, such as Melanerpes cactorum, Celeus lugubris, Phaethornis subochraceus, and Cantorchilus guarayanus, reflecting the influence of different phytogeographic regions of the Chaco and Chiquitano Dry Forests. Migrants represent 20% of the bird community occurring in the state, of which 93 species correspond to migrants from various regions of South America (south and west) and 40 to boreal migrants. Thirty-three species perform nomadic movements across the Pantanal Plain and other regions of the state. Thirty-one species are included in some conservation-threatened categories of global and/or national endangered species lists. Other 30 species are included in the near-threatened category at the global level and 23 at the national level. In addition, species typical of dry forests (in Serra da Bodoquena and Maciço do Urucum) and those from the Atlantic Forest in the south of the state deserve attention due to their restricted distribution and the high anthropogenic pressure on their habitat.

Resumo: O objeto deste artigo é a relação entre o artesanato indígena e o potencial etnoturístico no Sudoeste de Mato Grosso do Sul. Com a implantação da Rota Bioceânica, a propaganda governamental vem prometendo que esse corredor econômico irá estimular o turismo, daí o objetivo de sondar o potencial do etnoturismo na referida região, que sofrerá diretamente grande impacto em decorrência desse megaempreendimento. O referencial teórico-metodológico parte do pressuposto básico de que as produções humanas decorrem, necessariamente, do trabalho, daí a necessidade de tratá-las como relações sociais. Portanto, o objeto de investigação só ganha compreensão dentro dos marcos mais gerais da sociedade capitalista, expressos por categorias como capital, trabalho, força de trabalho, mercado, mercadoria, entre outras. Em relação à metodologia, o levantamento de dados empíricos buscou fontes primárias de natureza documental e imagética, em especial fotografias. Também foram recuperadas observações sistemáticas em situação de trabalho, realizadas tanto em postos de produção quanto de comercialização de artefatos indígenas. Ainda foram levantadas fontes secundárias pertinentes ao objeto, tais como catálogos, artigos científicos, dissertações de mestrado, teses de doutorado, livros e capítulos de livros. Para viabilizar o etnoturismo, a conclusão geral é a de que haja investimento num conjunto de iniciativas, pleiteado de forma integrada e contínua dentro de projeto de natureza permanente. Nesse conjunto, se fazem urgentes o aprimoramento dos artefatos étnicos; a recuperação e manutenção sistemática de estradas que dão acesso às terras indígenas, bem como a restauração, recuperação e adaptação de edificações já disponíveis nas aldeias visando adequá-las à oferta de serviços e produtos aos turistas.

Abstract: The object of this article is the relationship between indigenous crafts and the potential of ethno-tourism in the southwest of Mato Grosso do Sul. With the implementation of the Bi-oceanic Route, government propaganda has been promising that this economic corridor will stimulate tourism, hence the objective of probing the potential of ethno-tourism in that region, which will directly suffer a great impact as a result of this large-scale undertaking. The theoretical-methodological framework is based on the basic assumption that human productions necessarily result from work, hence the need to treat them as social relations. Therefore, the object of research only acquires understanding within the most general frameworks of capitalist society, expressed by categories such as capital, labor, labor force, market, merchandise, among others. Regarding the methodology, the empirical data survey looked for primary sources of a documentary and imaginary nature, especially photographs. Systematic observations were also recovered in work siltation, carried out both in production and commercialization stations of indigenous artifacts. Secondary sources relevant to the object were also raised, such as catalogs, scientific articles, master’s dissertations, doctoral theses, books, and book chapters. To make ethno-tourism viable, the general conclusion is that it invests in a set of initiatives, planned in an integrated and continuous manner within a permanent project. In this group, the improvement of ethnic artifacts is urgent; the recovery and systematic maintenance of the access roads to indigenous lands, as well as the restoration and adaptation of the buildings already available in the villages, with a view to adapting them to the provision of services and products to tourists.

Resumen: El objeto de este artículo es la relación entre la artesanía indígena y el potencial del etnoturismo en el suroeste de Mato Grosso do Sul. Con la implementación de la Ruta Bioceánica, la propaganda gubernamental ha venido prometiendo que este corredor económico estimulará el turismo, de ahí el objetivo de sondear el potencial del etnoturismo en esa región que sufrirá directamente un gran impacto como resultado de este emprendimiento a gran escala. El marco teórico-metodológico se basa en el supuesto básico de que las producciones humanas necesariamente resultan del trabajo, de ahí la necesidad de tratarlas como relaciones sociales. Por lo tanto, el objeto de investigación solo adquiere comprensión dentro de los marcos más generales de la sociedad capitalista, expresados por categorías como capital, trabajo, fuerza de trabajo, mercado, mercancías, entre otras. En cuanto a la metodología, el relevamiento de datos empíricos buscó fuentes primarias de carácter documental e imaginario, especialmente fotografías. También se recuperaron observaciones sistemáticas en situaciones de trabajo, realizadas tanto en estaciones de producción como de comercialización de artefactos indígenas. También se plantearon fuentes secundarias relevantes para el objeto, como catálogos, artículos científicos, disertaciones de maestría, tesis doctorales, libros y capítulos de libros. Para viabilizar el etnoturismo, la conclusión general es que se invierte en un conjunto de iniciativas, planteadas de manera integrada y continua dentro de un proyecto de carácter permanente. En este conjunto, la mejora de los artefactos étnicos es urgente; la recuperación y mantenimiento sistemático de las vías de acceso a las tierras indígenas, así como la restauración y adecuación de las edificaciones ya disponibles en las aldeas, con miras a adecuarlas a la prestación de servicios y productos al turista.

Resumo Uma das mais importantes classes de moléculas nutricionais é a dos compostos oleaginosos, a qual inclui especialmente os óleos-lipídeos, os carotenoides e os ácidos graxos. Esses compostos apresentam um vasto campo de aplicações industriais pela habilidade de atuarem como fonte de energia para o corpo humano, antioxidantes e agentes metabólicos. Sendo assim, a indústria de alimentos, focando principalmente na suplementação de alimentos, está sempre procurando novas fontes deles. Nesse contexto, o presente estudo avaliou a produção simultânea de lipídeos totais, carotenoides e ácidos graxos pela levedura Rhodotorula mucilaginosa CCT3892, utilizando melaço de cana-de-açúcar como fonte de carbono. Os resultados obtidos mostraram que o cultivo da levedura em meio contendo melaço (MC) produziu o mesmo teor de lipídeos totais e carotenoides (16,50% ± 0,68% e 0,053 ± 0,001 mg g-1, respectivamente) quando comparado com o produzido em meio sintéticos (SC) (15,36% ± 1,36% e 0,051 ± 0,001 mg g-1 0,005). Sobre a síntese de ácidos graxos, o cultivo de MC gerou o perfil mais interessante, uma vez que este apresentou um conteúdo majoritário de ácido oleico (74,05%), um composto insaturado com alto valor nutricional. O cultivo conduzido com melaço e suplementação de extrato de levedura (MYEC) não mostrou aumento na produção microbiana de óleos, o que indica que nessa condição prevaleceram outras formas de metabolização do substrato pelas células da levedura, como foi confirmado pelo estudo da cinética microbiana.

Abstract One of the most important classes of nutritional biomolecules is the oleaginous compounds group, which specially includes the oil-lipids, the carotenoids and the fatty acids. These biocompounds present a wide range of industrial applications because their ability to act as an energy source, antioxidants and metabolic agents for the human body. Therefore, the food industry, mainly focusing on food supplementation, is always searching for new sources of them. In this context, the present study evaluated the total lipids, carotenoids and fatty acids simultaneous production by the Rhodotorula mucilaginosa CCT3892 yeast, using residual sugarcane molasses as carbon source. The results obtained demonstrated that the cultivation of yeast in molasses medium (MC) produced the same content of total lipids and carotenoids (16.50% ± 0.68% and 0.053 ± 0.001 mg g-1, respectively) as the obtained from a synthetic medium (SC) (15.36% ± 1.36% and 0.051 ± 0.001 mg g-1 0.005). Concerning the fatty acids biosynthesis, the MC cultivation generated the most interesting profile once it presented a greater content of oleic acid (74.05%), an unsaturated compound with high nutritional value. The cultivation carried out with the molasses and yeast extract supplementation (MYEC) did not provide an improvement in microbial oil production, what indicated that in this condition there was a predominance of others sorts of substrate metabolization by the yeast cells, as confirmed by the microbial kinetics study.

RESUMO A presente revisão objetivou apresentar os principais aspectos relacionados à infecção causada pelo vírus da língua azul em ovinos. A língua azul é uma doença viral, infecciosa e não contagiosa, causada por um vírus (BTV) do gênero Orbivírus, transmitida por meio de vetores hematófagos do gênero Culicoides a ruminantes domésticos e selvagens, principalmente aos ovinos, a espécie mais susceptível. A infecção ocorre de forma endêmica, associada a condições climáticas com elevada temperatura e umidade. As perdas econômicas estão ligadas diretamente à morte, ao abortamento, à perda de peso, à perda na produção de leite e carne, e, indiretamente, devido à restrição na exportação de animais e seus subprodutos. O estudo conclui que a língua azul está disseminada mundialmente e persiste, provavelmente, devido ao clima quente e úmido que propicia a proliferação de Culicoides sp., sendo necessário adotar medidas que diminuam os fatores de risco associados à infecção pelo vírus.

ABSTRACT The present review aims to show the main aspects related to bluetongue virus (BTV) infection in sheep. The bluetongue (BT) is a viral, infectious, and non-contagious disease caused by a virus (BTV) of the Orbivirus genus, transmited by a hematophagous vector of the Culicoides genus, to domestic and wild ruminants, mainly to sheep, the most susceptible species. It is caused by the association of endemic with climate conditions, with high temperatures and humidity. Economic loss is directly linked to death, abortion, weight loss, loss of milk, and meat production, and, indirectly, to the restriction on the export of animals and their by-products. The study concludes that the BTV is worldwidely spread, and probably persists due to the warm and humid climate that leads to the proliferation of Culicoides sp., being necessary to adopt measures that reduce the risk factors associated to the BTV infection.

Resumo Este trabalho tem por objeto o município de Porto Murtinho, localizado na porção sudoeste de Mato Grosso do Sul. Objetiva analisar a economia local e seu reflexo na biodiversidade nas últimas décadas, além de sondar possíveis impactos da implantação do Corredor Bioceânico, tendo como pressupostos o desenvolvimento sustentável, o reconhecimento e a valorização da cultura, do ecoturismo, do turismo de observação de aves e da vida selvagem.

Abstract This work aims at the municipality of Porto Murtinho, located in the southwest portion of Mato Grosso do Sul. It aims to analyze the local economy and its reflection on biodiversity in the last decades, besides probing possible impacts of the implementation of the Bioceanic Highroad Crossing, having as presuppositions the sustainable development and the recognition and appreciation of culture, ecotourism, bird-watching and wildlife tourism.

Resumen Este trabajo tiene por objeto el municipio de Porto Murtinho, ubicado en la porción suroeste de Mato Grosso do Sul. Objetiva analizar la economía local y su reflejo en la biodiversidad en las últimas décadas, además de sondear posibles impactos de la implantación de la Carretera Bioceánica, teniendo como presupuestos el desarrollo sostenible y el reconocimiento y valorización de la cultura, el ecoturismo, el turismo de observación de aves y la vida silvestre.

RESUMO O tabagismo é o maior responsável pelas doenças respiratórias (DR). Os efeitos nocivos do tabaco sobre o aparelho respiratório se iniciam ainda intraútero e influenciam as respostas imunológicas ao longo da infância e vida adulta. Os tabagistas com DR possuem peculiaridades que podem dificultar a cessação tabágica, tais como maior grau de dependência e de abstinência de nicotina; níveis mais elevados de monóxido de carbono exalado; motivação e autoeficácia baixas; maior preocupação com ganho ponderal; e elevada prevalência de ansiedade e depressão. Além disso, requerem tratamento mais intensivo e prolongado. É necessário esclarecer sempre o paciente sobre o fato de que parar de fumar será a única medida que irá reduzir a progressão das DR e melhorar sua qualidade de vida, independentemente do tempo e da gravidade da doença. Os médicos devem sempre oferecer o tratamento de cessação tabágica. O tratamento ambulatorial ou hospitalar deve ser multidisciplinar, baseado em intervenções comportamentais e farmacoterapia, sendo eficaz e custo-efetivo, dobrando as chances de sucesso.

ABSTRACT Smoking is the leading cause of respiratory disease (RD). The harmful effects of smoking on the respiratory system begin in utero and influence immune responses throughout childhood and adult life. In comparison with “healthy” smokers, smokers with RD have peculiarities that can impede smoking cessation, such as a higher level of nicotine dependence; nicotine withdrawal; higher levels of exhaled carbon monoxide; low motivation and low self-efficacy; greater concern about weight gain; and a high prevalence of anxiety and depression. In addition, they require more intensive, prolonged treatment. It is always necessary to educate such individuals about the fact that quitting smoking is the only measure that will reduce the progression of RD and improve their quality of life, regardless of the duration and severity of the disease. Physicians should always offer smoking cessation treatment. Outpatient or inpatient smoking cessation treatment should be multidisciplinary, based on behavioral interventions and pharmacotherapy. It will thus be more effective and cost-effective, doubling the chances of success.

Resumo Ornithocoris toledoi é um inseto hematófago que parasita aves, particularmente os galiformes. Embora a ocorrência deste artrópode seja relativamente baixa no país, este é um ectoparasito importante relacionado à criação rústica de galinhas. O objetivo estudo foi relatar a ocorrência de O. toledoi em uma criação rústica de galinhas no estado do Rio de Janeiro, incluindo aspectos sobre a sua identificação taxonômica, biologia e epidemiologia.

Abstract Ornithocoris toledoi is a hematophagous insect that parasites birds, particularly, galliformes. Although the occurrence of this arthropod is relatively low in Brazil, this is an important ectoparasite associated with backyarding poultry. The objective of this study was to report the occurrence of O. toledoi in a free-range chicken farm in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, including aspects of its taxonomic identification, biology and epidemiology.

RESUMO: A aplicação de retardantes de crescimento, como o paclobutrazol, reduz a altura das plantas e tem possibilitado a comercialização de algumas espécies ornamentais de maior porte em vasos. Objetivou-se com este estudo avaliar porte, produção e qualidade da flor de duas cultivares de roseira cultivadas em vaso em função da aplicação de doses de paclobutrazol no substrato. Os tratamentos foram dispostos em esquema fatorial 2x5, com duas cultivares de roseira (Yellow Terrazza® e Shiny Terrazza®) e cinco doses de paclobutrazol (0; 0,5; 1,0; 1,5 e 2,0 mg vaso-1). O experimento foi conduzido em vasos plásticos sob ambiente protegido, em delineamento de blocos ao acaso com quatro repetições. Foram avaliados a altura das plantas; diâmetro, número de flores e folhas da haste floral; comprimento do botão floral; ciclo, área foliar; diâmetro floral e longevidade floral; teor de clorofila nas folhas e produção. A aplicação de paclobutrazol no substrato proporcionou melhoria na qualidade floral e estética de ambas cultivares de roseira. Também reduziu a produção de matéria seca foliar, altura da planta e diâmetro floral e aumentou o teor de clorofila e a longevidade floral. O paclobutrazol foi eficiente em reduzir a altura, conferindo uma relação harmoniosa entre a planta e o vaso, sem causar sintomas de toxidez e alterações morfológicas. Sugere-se a aplicação no substrato de 2mg vaso-1 de paclobutrazol para as cultivares de roseira Yellow Terrazza® e Shiny Terrazza® produzidas em vasos.

ABSTRACT: Growth retardants, such as paclobutrazol, reduce plant height, and thus enable commercialization of larger ornamental plants in pots. The aim of this research was to evaluate the size, yield and flower quality of two rose cultivars as a function of various paclobutrazol applications to growing substrate. Treatments consisted of two cultivars (Yellow Terrazza® and Shiny Terrazza®) planted in plastic pots and five paclobutrazol doses (0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0mg pot-1). The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse. Experimental design was randomized blocks with four replications. The following traits were evaluated: plant height; stem diameter, number of flowers and leaves of floral stem; length of flower bud; floral cycle, leaf area; flower diameter and floral longevity; chlorophyll content in leaves; and yield. Paclobutrazol improved the quality and esthetics of flowers of both cultivars. It also reduced leaf dry matter production, plant height, flower height and diameter and increased chlorophyll content and flower longevity. Paclobutrazol effectively reduced plant height, producing a harmonious relationship between the plant and the pot, without phytotoxicity. Therefore, we suggested applying 2.0mgpot-1 of paclobutrazol to the substrate of Yellow Terrazza® and Shiny Terrazza® rose cultivars.

RESUMO Produção e estado nutricional de gladíolos em função da aplicação de silício ao substrato O gladíolo encontra-se entre as mais tradicionais e importantes flores de corte, no Brasil. O silício (Si) é um elemento que tem aumentado a produção e qualidade de algumas plantas ornamentais. Objetivou-se avaliar a produção e o estado nutricional de cultivares de gladíolo em ambiente protegido, em função da aplicação de Si ao substrato. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de blocos ao acaso, em esquema fatorial 3 x 4, sendo três cultivares de gladíolo ('White Friendship', 'Rose Friendship' e 'Red Beauty') e quatro doses de Si (0 mg dm-3, 150 mg dm-3, 300 mg dm-3 e 600 mg dm-3), com cinco repetições. Foram avaliadas características fitotécnicas, além dos teores foliares de Si, macro e micronutrientes. 'White Friendship' e 'Red Beauty' produziram plantas mais altas, com maior diâmetro e hastes florais mais compridas e mais pesadas do que 'Rose Friendship'. A ordem do teor de nutrientes nas folhas das três cultivares foi a mesma (K > N > Ca > Mg > S > P > Fe > Mn > B > Zn > Cu), sendo todas elas classificadas como não acumuladoras de Si. A aplicação de Si não influenciou nenhuma variável fitotécnica avaliada e nem a absorção dos nutrientes N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, B, Cu, Fe, Mn e Zn, sugerindo que a adição de Si ao substrato não aumenta a produção de gladíolos.

ABSTRACT Gladiolus is among the most traditional and important cut flowers in Brazil. Silicon (Si) is an element that has increased the production and quality of some ornamental plants. This study aimed at evaluating the production and nutritional status of gladiolus cultivars under greenhouse conditions, according to the Si doses applied to the substrate. The experimental design was randomized blocks, in a 3 x 4 factorial scheme, being three gladiolus cultivars ('White Friendship', 'Rose Friendship' and 'Red Beauty') and four Si doses (0 mg dm-3, 150 mg dm-3, 300 mg dm-3 and 600 mg dm-3), with five replicates. Morphological traits and leaf Si, macro and micronutrients were evaluated. 'White Friendship' and 'Red Beauty' developed taller plants, with a higher diameter and spikes heavier and longer than 'Rose Friendship'. The order of leaf nutrient concentrations for all the cultivars evaluated was the same (K > N > Ca > Mg > S > P > Fe > Mn > B > Zn > Cu), with all of them being classified as Si non-accumulators. Neither the evaluated morphological variables, nor the uptake of the nutrients N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, B, Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn, were affected by the Si supplementation, suggesting that the addition of Si to the substrate does not enhance the gladiolus production.

Resumo: A produção de sementes de pimentão pode ser influenciada pelo manejo da planta e ponto de colheita dos frutos. O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar a qualidade de sementes de pimentão produzidas em sistema orgânico, em função do crescimento livre e desbaste de ramos, e do estádio de maturação dos frutos. O experimento foi conduzido em ambiente protegido com delineamento de blocos ao acaso, sendo as plantas tutoradas com fitilhos paralelos, com e sem desbaste de ramos e frutos coletados em três estádios de maturação (completamente verde, verde/avermelhado e vermelho). As seguintes determinações foram realizadas: teor de água das sementes no momento da colheita e após repouso pós-colheita; número de sementes por fruto; germinação de sementes e emergência de plântulas. Pode-se concluir que a produção de sementes de pimentão em sistema orgânico é viável, resultando em sementes com porcentagem de germinação e emergência de plântulas superiores a 90%. A forma de manejo das plantas sem o desbaste de hastes resulta na produção de sementes com maior viabilidade e quantidade por fruto. O cultivo do pimentão para a produção de sementes pode ser realizado com frutos no estádio de maturação verde (51 dias após a antese), sem prejuízo da sua qualidade.

Abstract: The production of bell pepper seeds may be affected by the plant management and harvesting point of fruits. The goal of this study was to evaluate the quality of organically produced bell pepper seeds according to free plant growth, branch thinning and ripening stage. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse with randomized block design; plants were tutored to parallel tape supports, with and without branch thinning, and fruits were harvested at three ripening stages (completely green, green/reddish and red). The following determinations were made: seed moisture content of at the time of harvest and after post-harvest rest, number of seeds per fruit, seed germination, and seedling emergence. It is possible to conclude that the production of bell pepper seeds in an organic system is viable, resulting in seeds with a germination percentage and seedling emergence above 90%. The management system of plants without branch thinning results in the production of seeds with greater viability and higher quantity per fruit. The cultivation of bell peppers for seed production may be carried out with fruits at the green ripening stage (51 days after anthesis), without any quality loss.
