RESUMO: As cigarrinhas (Mahanarva spp.) são pragas de grande importância econômica em várias regiões do país. Muitas espécies têm variação no padrão alar, parâmetro que leva muitas vezes à identificação de forma incorreta. Adultos de cigarrinhas foram coletados em canaviais nos municípios de Murici e Maceió em Alagoas, Lagoa de Itaenga e Camutanga em Pernambuco, São Raimundo das Mangabeiras em Maranhão e União e Boa Hora, microrregião de Teresina em Piauí, e foram montados e identificados. As cigarrinhas coletadas são representantes de três espécies M. spectabilis, M. fimbriolata e M. posticata, sendo este o primeiro registro da espécie M. spectabilis atacando canaviais nos estados do Piauí e Maranhão. Em canaviais de Alagoas, foram encontradas as espécies M. posticata e M. fimbriolata e, em Pernambuco, apenas M. posticata.

ABSTRACT: Froghoppers (Mahanarva spp.) are pests of great economic importance for various regions of Brazil. Many species have a variation in the alar pattern, a parameter that often leads to incorrect identification. We collected froghopper adults in sugarcane fields in the municipalities of Murici and Maceió, in Alagoas, Lagoa de Itaenga and Camutanga, in Pernambuco, São Raimundo das Mangabeiras, in Maranhão, and União and Boa Hora, in the Teresina microregion in Piauí. The froghoppers were assembled and identified and are representatives of three species: M. spectabilis, M. fimbriolata, and M. posticata. This is the first record of M. spectabilis attacking sugarcane fields in the states of Piauí and Maranhão, Brazil. We found the species M. posticata and M. fimbriolata in the sugarcane fields of Alagoas and only M. posticata in Pernambuco.

ABSTRACT The spittlebug Mahanarva fimbriolata (Stål) (Hemiptera: Cercopidae) is one of the most important pests of sugarcane in Brazil. Measures for population control are currently restricted to the use of chemical insecticides and fungus Metarhizium anisopliae, in part because very little information exists regarding resistance of sugarcane cultivars. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate resistance mechanisms of 12 different sugarcane cultivars to M. fimbriolata to provide information for growers for pest management. Isolated buds of each cultivar were planted in pots and kept in a greenhouse for approximately three months. The pots were then moved to climate test chambers (26 ± 1 ºC; 70 ± 10 % relative humidity; 12 h photoperiod) to carry out laboratory tests to evaluate adult feeding and female oviposition preferences (using both free-choice and no-choice tests) as well as the effects of cultivars on nymph development and cultivars tolerance to pest attack. The least attractive cultivars for adult feeding were IACSP96-2042 and IAC91-1099. Cultivars IACSP96-2042, IACSP96-3060 and IACSP94-2101 received the fewest eggs in the free-choice and no-choice oviposition tests and exhibited some level of antixenosis resistance. Cultivar IAC91-1099 showed the highest level of antibiosis resistance with a nymph survival rate in the roots of only 20 %. Finally, cultivar IACSP94-2094 appears to be tolerant to M. fimbriolata, as it did not show significant reductions in aboveground biomass weight, despite showing reduced leaf chlorophyll levels following pest attack.

RESUMO O objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar a reação de dez cultivares de cana-de-açúcar à Diatraea saccharalis Fabr., em experimento desenvolvido em delineamento em blocos casualizados com seis repetições e tratamentos em esquema fatorial 2x10. O primeiro fator foi constituído por dois níveis de infestação de broca (infestado e não infestado), e o segundo fator, pelas dez cultivares de cana-de-açúcar em estudo (IAC87-3396, IAC91-1099, IACSP93-3046, IACSP94-2101, IACSP94-2094, IACSP94-4004, IACSP95-5000, IACSP96-3060, IACSP96-2042 e SP91-1115). O ensaio foi avaliado em dois ciclos da cultura, cana-planta e primeira soca. Todas as cultivares foram muito atacadas pela broca, sendo IACSP94-4004, IACSP96-2042 e SP91-1115 as mais infestadas e danificadas pelo inseto. Para cana-planta, parcelas infestadas pela broca tiveram maior teor de fibra que parcelas não infestadas. Para soqueira, parcelas infestadas produziram 10% menos, com menores teores de pureza e maiores teores de açúcares redutores totais que as não infestadas.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the reaction of ten sugarcane cultivars to Diatraea saccharalis under field conditions, using a randomized block design with treatments in factorial 2x10 with six replications. The first factor was represented by two levels of infestation (infested and not infested) by borer and the second one, by the ten sugarcane varieties (IAC87-3396, IAC91-1099, IACSP93-3046, IACSP94-2101, IACSP94-2094, IACSP94-4004, IACSP95-5000, IACSP96-3060, IACSP96-2042 and SP91-1115). The experiment was evaluated in two crop cycles: plant crop and first ratoon. All cultivars were attacked by the borer, being IACSP94-4004, IACSP96-2042 and SP91-1115 the most damaged cultivars with the highest infestation index. During the plant crop, plots infested by the borer presented higher fiber content than the ones not infested. During the first ratoon, non infested plants produced 10% less and presented lower purity and higher content of reducing sugars than the non-infested plants.

The objective of this study was to investigate the natural occurrence of T. alecto, an egg parasitoid of Diatraea spp. in sugar cane in the State of Alagoas. The eggs of D. flavipennella and D. saccharalis presented 47.9% and 30.0% with characteristics of parasitism, and viabilities of 92.4% and 89.9%, respectively. The presence of this natural enemy suggests a potential for natural regulation of Diatraea spp.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi verificar a ocorrência natural de T. alecto, parasitóide de ovos de Diatraea spp. em cana-de-açúcar no Estado de Alagoas. As posturas de D. flavipennella e D. saccharalis apresentaram 47,9% e 30,0% dos ovos com características de parasitismo e viabilidade de 92,4% e 89,9%, respectivamente. A presença deste inimigo natural sugere um potencial de regulação natural de Diatraea spp.

Extratos vegetais orgânicos e óleos emulsionáveis de Azadirachta indica A. Juss (Meliaceae) (nim) foram estudados com o objetivo de avaliar seus efeitos no controle de fêmeas ingurgitadas de Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus (Canestrini, 1887) em laboratório. Foram utilizados extratos orgânicos hexânicos e alcoólicos a 2% (peso/volume), em testes de imersão, durante 5 minutos, preparados com sementes, solubilizados em dimetilsulfóxido (DMSO) a 1%. O experimento foi inteiramente casualizado, sendo constituído por 6 tratamentos e 5 repetições, cada uma delas representada por 5 carrapatos. O grupo controle consistiu de fêmeas sem tratamento. Com base nos resultados deste trabalho, pode-se indicar que os tratamentos extrato de semente (hexano) e óleo emulsionável I¹, em concentração a 2%, possuem significativo potencial adjuvante de controle do carrapato bovino, pois ocasionam a mortalidade nos primeiros dias após o tratamento e interferem na reprodução, mostrando ser uma alternativa aos carrapaticidas normalmente utilizados.

Organic plant extracts and emulsified oil of Azadirachta indica A. Juss (Meliaceae) (neem) were studied to evaluate its effects in control of engorged females of Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus (Canestrini, 1887) in the laboratory. Hexane and alcoholic organic extracts, 2% (weight/volume) were used in tests of immersion for 5 minutes, prepared with seeds, solubilized in dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) to 1%. The experiment was entirely randomized, consisting of 6 treatments and 5 replicates, each represented by 5 ticks. Control groups consisted of untreated females. Based on the results of this work, we can indicate that the seed extract (hexanic fraction) and óleo emulsionável I1 concentration to 2% have significant adjuvant potential to control the cattle tick, because, cause the mortality in the first days after the treatment and interfere in the reproduction, showing to be an alternative to acaricides normally used.
