A podridão-de-cratera dos frutos de meloeiro, causada por Myrothecium roridum, vem ocorrendo com freqüência nos plantios da região Nordeste e ocasionando perdas de produção. Foi analisada a influência do método de inoculação (gota, pulverização, gota com ferimento, pulverização com ferimento e injeção subepidérmica), da intensidade (0, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 e 10 ferimentos) e idade de ferimento (0, 3 e 6 horas) e da idade do fruto (12, 22 e 27 dias) na severidade da podridão-de-cratera em melão dos tipos Amarelo (cv. AF-682) e Honeydew (cv. Orange Flesh), inoculados com três isolados de M. roridum (CMM-609, CMM-636 e CMM-766). A severidade da doença foi influenciada pela interação entre métodos de inoculação, isolados e cultivares. As inoculações por pulverização ou deposição de gota propiciaram maiores lesões nos frutos submetidos a ferimentos. Entretanto, não foram observados sintomas nos frutos sem ferimentos. A inoculação por injeção subepidérmica, apesar de também provocar ferimento no fruto, apresentou lesões menores. A severidade da doença aumentou com o incremento do número de ferimentos, atingindo o máximo com 10 ferimentos. Verificou-se uma tendência de redução da severidade da doença nos frutos com o aumento da idade do ferimento. As lesões foram significativamente menores nos frutos feridos 6 horas antes da inoculação do que naqueles feridos imediatamente antes da inoculação. A idade do fruto não foi determinante para elevação ou redução da severidade da podridão-de-cratera.

The crater rot of melon fruits, caused by Myrothecium roridum, frequently occurs in production fields at Northeast region of Brazil and causes yield losses. It was analyzed the influence of the inoculation method (pulverization, drop deposition, pulverization with wound, drop deposition with wound, and sub epidermal injection, wound intensity (0, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 10 wounds) and age (0, 3 and 6 hours), and fruit age (12, 22 and 27 days) on the severity of the crater rot in melon fruits type Yellow (cv. AF-682) and Honeydew (cv. Orange Flesh), inoculated with three M. roridum isolates (CMM-609, CMM-636 and CMM-766). The crater rot severity was influenced by the interaction among inoculation methods, pathogen isolates and melon cultivars. Pulverization or drop deposition of inoculum propitiated the biggest lesions in the fruits submitted to wounds. However, symptoms were not observed in the fruits without wounds. The inoculation with sub-epidermal injection led to smaller lesions, in spite of also to cause wound in the fruit. The disease severity increased with the increment of the wound number, reaching the maximum with 10 wounds. A tendency of reduction of the disease severity was verified in fruits with the increase of the wound age. The lesions were significantly smaller in the fruits wounded 6 hours before the inoculation than in those wounded immediately before the inoculation. The fruit age was not decisive for increasing or reducing the crater rot severity.

O extrato obtido em metanol da polpa de frutos Endopleura uchi foi submetido a fracionamento utilizando-se técnicas cromatográficas convencionais levando ao isolamento de bergenina. Na análise da composição dos carotenóides foi evidenciada a predominância de beta-caroteno (16,57 mig.g-1). Os isômeros do beta-caroteno foram detectados, trans-beta-caroteno (89,3%), 13-cis-beta-caroteno (8%) e 9-cis-beta-caroteno (3%). Considerando a importância do papel nutricional dos carotenóides e a bioatividade do glicosídeo bergenina, esse estudo sugeriu o potencial desse fruto como alimento funcional.

The extract obtained in methanol from the fruits pulp of Endopleura uchi was fractionated using conventional chromatographic tecniques to isolate bergenin. In the analysis of the composition of carotenoids was evidenced the predominance of beta-carotene (16.57 mug.g-1). The isomers of beta-carotene: trans-beta-carotene (89.3%), 13-cis-beta-carotene (8%) and 9-cis-beta-carotene (3%) were detected. Considering the importance of the nutritional role of carotenoids and the bioactivity of the bergenina, this study suggested the potential of this fruit as functional food.

O estudo de Trattinnickia burserifolia levou ao isolamento dos triterpenos conhecidos ursanos alfa-amirenona, alfa-amirina, 3-epi-alfa-amirina, 3alfa,16beta-diidroxiurs-12-eno; oleananos beta-amirenona, beta-amirina, 3-epi-beta-amirina, 3alfa,16beta-diidroxiolean-12-eno; tirucalanos ácidos 3alfa-hidroxitirucal-8,24-dien-21-óico, 3alfa-hidroxitirucal-7,24-dien-21-óico, e 3-oxotirucal-8,24-dien-21-óico; damaranos dammarenediol-II e 3alfa,20(S)-diidroxidamar-24-eno. Além desses foram ainda isolados o monoterpeno novo 2(S*)-fenilacetoxi-4(R*)-p-menta-1(7),5-dieno, e os triterpenos novos 3beta-fenilacetoxiurs-12-eno, 3beta-fenilacetoxiolean-12-eno e 3beta,16beta,11alfa-triidroxiurs-12-eno. Os triterpenos de T. burserifolia, T. rhoifolia e Dacryodes foram analisados em mistura. Os espectros de RMN 13C mostraram que os principais triterpenos eram alfa-amirina e beta-amirina em T. burserifolia; alfa-amirina, beta-amirina, 3-epi-alfa-amirina, 3-epi-beta-amirina, lupenona, ácidos 3alfa-hidroxitirucal-8,24-dien-21-óico e 3alfa-hidroxitirucal-7,24-dien-21-óico em T. rhoifolia; alfa-amirina, beta-amirina, lupeol, tirucalol, sitosterol e estigmasterol em D. hopkinsii. A quimiossistemática da tribo Protieae é discutida.

Trattinnickia burserifolia has yielded the known ursanes, alpha-amyrenone, alpha-amyrin, 3-epi-alpha-amyrin, 3alpha,16beta-dihydroxyurs-12-ene, the oleananes beta-amyrenone, beta-amyrin, 3-epi-beta-amyrin, 3alpha,16beta-dihydroxyolean-12-ene, the tirucallane acids 3alpha-hydroxytirucall-8,24-dien-21-oic, 3alpha-hydroxytirucall-7,24-dien-21-oic and 3-oxotirucall-8,24-dien-21-oic, the dammaranes dammarenediol-II and 3alpha,20(S)-dihydroxydammar-24-ene. Besides it was isolated the new monoterpene 2(S*)-phenylacetoxy-4(R*)-p-mentha-1(7),5-diene and, the new triterpenes 3beta-phenylacetoxyurs-12-ene, 3beta-phenylacetoxyolean-12-ene and 3beta,16beta,11alpha-trihydroxyurs-12-ene. The triterpenes from T. burserifolia, T. rhoifolia and Dacryodes were analyzed in mixture. Their 13C NMR spectra showed that the major triterpenes were in T. burserifolia alpha-amyrin and beta-amyrin; in T. rhoifolia alpha-amyrin, beta-amyrin, 3-epi-alpha-amyrin, 3-epi-beta-amyrin, and lupenone; in T. rhoifolia alpha-amyrin, beta-amyrin, 3-epi-alpha-amyrin, 3-epi-beta-amyrin, 3alpha-hydroxytirucall-8,24-dien-21-oic acid and 3alpha-hydroxytirucall-7,24-dien-21-oic acid; in D. hopkinsii alpha-amyrin, beta-amyrin, lupeol, tirucallol, sitosterol and stigmasterol. Aspects of chemosystematic of the tribe Protieae are discussed.
