Abstract Soybean is a key crop in many countries, being used from human food to the animal industry due to its nutritional properties. Financially, the grain chain moves large sums of money into the economy of producing countries. However, like other agricultural commodities around the world, it can have its final yield seriously compromised by abiotic environmental stressors, like drought. As flowers imply in pods and in grains inside it to minimize damages caused by water restriction, researchers have focused on understanding flowering-process related genes and their interactions. Here a review dedicated to the soybean flowering process and gene network involved in it is presented, describing gene interactions and how genes act in this complex mechanism, also ruled by environmental triggers such as day-light and circadian cycle. The objective was to gather information and insights on the soybean flowering process, aiming to provide knowledge useful to assist in the development of drought-tolerant soybean lines, minimizing losses due to delays or anticipation of flowering and, consequently, restraining financial and productivity losses.

Resumo O estudo teve por objetivo compreender crenças e emoções acerca do usuário com diagnóstico de esquizofrenia vigentes no imaginário coletivo de enfermeiros inseridos na Atenção Primária à Saúde. Trata-se de estudo de abordagem qualitativa pautado pelo método investigativo psicanalítico. Os participantes foram 15 enfermeiros que atuavam no referido nível de atenção em saúde de uma cidade de médio porte. A coleta de dados foi realizada com o emprego do Procedimento de Desenho-Estória com Tema (PDE-T) e a análise de dados buscou captar campos de sentido mediante a execução dos movimentos técnicos preconizados para a operacionalização do método investigativo psicanalítico. Verificou-se que, de modo não-consciente, o usuário com diagnóstico de esquizofrenia é representado negativamente no imaginário coletivo dos participantes, pois é visto como alguém inconveniente, que cria alvoroço e desperta medo, sobretudo devido à sua “agitação” supostamente típica. Assim, deparar-se com tal usuário corresponde, para os participantes, a uma situação a ser “resolvida” com rapidez. Este estudo, portanto, demarca dificuldades no tocante à atenção em saúde mental oferecida ao usuário com diagnóstico de esquizofrenia, as quais estão relacionadas a elementos não-conscientes da subjetividade grupal que, ao mesmo tempo, possuem caráter social e individual.

Abstract This study aimed to understand beliefs and emotions about the user diagnosed with schizophrenia current in the collective imaginary of nurses working in Primary Health Care. It is a qualitative study based on the psychoanalytic investigative method. The participants were 15 nurses who worked at the referred level of health care in a medium-sized city. Data collection was performed using the Drawing-Story with Theme Procedure (PDE-T) and data analysis sought to capture fields of meaning through the execution of the technical movements recommended for the operationalization of the psychoanalytic investigative method. It was found that, in a non-conscious way, the user diagnosed with schizophrenia is negatively represented in the collective imaginary of the participants, because he is seen as an inconvenient person, who creates uproar and arouses fear, mainly due to his supposedly typical “agitation”. Thus, facing such a user means, for the participants, a situation to be quickly “solved”. Therefore, this study highlights difficulties concerning mental health care offered to users diagnosed with schizophrenia, which are related to non-conscious elements of group subjectivity that, at the same time, have a social and individual character.

Abstract Water deficit is an important climatic problem that can impair agriculture yield and economy. Genetically modified soybean plants containing the AtNCED3 gene were obtained aiming drought-tolerance improvement. The NCED3 gene encodes a 9-cis-epoxycarotenoid dioxygenase (NCED, EC 1.13.11.51), an important enzyme in abscisic acid biosynthesis. ABA activates the expression of drought-responsive genes, in water-deficit conditions, targeting defense mechanisms and enabling plants to survive under low water availability. Results from greenhouse experiments showed that the transgene AtNCED3 and the endogenous genes GmAREB1, GmPP2C, GmSnRK2 and GmAAO3 presented higher expression under water deficit (WD) in the event 2Ha11 than in WT-plants. No significant correlation was observed between the plant materials and WD conditions for growth parameters; however, gas exchange measurements decreased in the GM event, which also showed 80% higher intrinsic water use when compared to WT plants. In crop season 2015/16, event 2Ha11 showed higher total number of pods, higher number of pods with seeds and yield than WT plants. ABA concentration was also higher in GM plants under WD. These results obtained in field screenings suggest that AtNCED3 soybean plants might outperform under drought, reducing economic and yield losses, thus being a good candidate line to be incorporated in the soybean-breeding program to develop drought-tolerant cultivars.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to determine the adjustment quality of non-linear models and estimate the growth parameters and body chemical composition of a meat-type quail strain (Coturnix coturnix coturnix) and two laying quail strains (Coturnix coturnix japonica), designated yellow and red. The study used 1500 quail, not sexed, distributed in a completely randomized design with three treatments and five repetitions. The experimental period was from 1-42 days of age. The birds were raised in a conventional system and fed ad libitum with a diet formulated to meet their nutritional requirements. Quail were weighed weekly, and a representative sample was slaughtered to evaluate their body chemical composition. The adjustment quality of the models was evaluated by means of the residual mean square (RMS), regression residue squares sum (SSRR), and number of iterations required for convergence. In evaluating the adjustment quality for the body weight of the three strains, the Gompertz, Logistic, and Von Bertalanffy models gave good fit, with Gompertz providing the best adjustment among them. For body composition, the Gompertz and Logistic models were the best, with Gompertz showing a slight superiority. Gompertz is the best model for describing growth curves and body chemical composition of body weight, protein, water, and ash in meat-type quail. In addition, it is the best model for describing growth curves and body chemical composition of body weight of yellow laying quail and of body weight, protein, and ash in red laying quail. Logistic was the best model for describing growth curves and body chemical composition of water, protein, and ash in yellow laying quail, and of water in red laying quail.

RESUMO Objetivo: refletir sobre o cuidado de enfermagem e sua epistemologia, partindo de suas dimensões histórica, teórica, filosófica, espiritual e como prática social. Método: discussões no decorrer da disciplina "Epistemologia do Cuidado", do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Enfermagem da Escola de Enfermagem da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais e análise crítica de literatura científica da enfermagem agregada ao cuidado no exercício profissional das autoras. Resultados: identificou-se a necessidade do desenvolvimento de uma consciência crítica sobre as formas de cuidar no âmbito da assistência, pesquisa e ensino, bem como nos desafios que envolvem a qualidade das relações interpessoais no trabalho e no ambiente, como fator de impacto na saúde das pessoas, comunidades e populações. Conclusão: sugere-se o resgate da integralidade, da humanização, da unicidade, da espiritualidade nas pesquisas e práticas do cuidado do indivíduo, da família e da comunidade, como avanço na incorporação do conhecimento epistemológico do cuidar em enfermagem.

Method: discussions originated in the discipline "Epistemology of caring", from the graduate nursing program of the School of Nursing, Federal University of Minas Gerais, and in critical analysis of nursing literature together with the professional practice of the authors. Results: we identified the necessity of developing a critical conscience on health care provision, research, and teaching, as well as on challenges in maintaining high standards of working interpersonal relationships, which has a profound impact on population health. Conclusion: we suggest the rescue of integrality, humanization, unity, and spirituality in researches and practices of individual, familiar, and community care, as an advance in incorporating epistemology of caring in nursing.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate whether risk scores used to classify patients with primary myelofibrosis and JAK-2 V617F mutation status can predict clinical outcome. METHODS: A review of clinical and laboratory data from 74 patients with primary myelofibrosis diagnosed between 1992 and 2011. The IPSS and Lille scores were calculated for risk stratification and correlated with overall survival. RESULTS: A V617F JAK2 mutation was detected in 32 cases (47%), with no significant correlation with overall survival. The patients were classified according to the scores: Lille - low, 53 (73.%); intermediate, 13 (18%); and high, 5 (7%); and IPSS- low, 15 (26%); intermediate-1, 23 (32%); intermediate-2, 19 (26%); and high, 15 (31%). Those patients presenting a higher risk according to the IPSS (high and intermediate-2) had a significantly shorter overall survival relative to the low risk groups (intermediate-1 and low) (p = 0.02). CONCLUSIONS: These results emphasize the importance of the IPSS prognostic score for risk assessment in predicting the clinical outcome of primary myelofibrosis patients.
