Resumo Partindo de uma pesquisa mais ampla sobre as vivências de mulheres negras na assistência ao período gestacional e parto, este artigo aborda alguns aspectos do racismo na rotina de atenção à mulher negra durante este ciclo. Trata-se de uma pesquisa empírica de abordagem qualitativa com mulheres e mães que se autodeclaram negras e antirracistas. Nas narrativas, os pontos apresentados envolviam, na sua maioria, estereótipos associados ao corpo negro construídos sob um imaginário social racista. Nas relações interpessoais, discursos permeados por estereótipos racistas desumanizam a mulher negra, gerando barreiras na sua saúde reprodutiva.

Abstract Starting from a broader research on the experiences of black women in assisting the gestational period and childbirth, this article addresses some aspects of racism in the routine of care for black women during this cycle. This is an empirical research with a qualitative approach with women and mothers who declare themselves black and anti-racist. In the narratives, the points presented involved, for the most part, stereotypes associated with the black body constructed under a racist social imaginary. In interpersonal relationships, speeches permeated by racist stereotypes dehumanize black women, creating barriers in their reproductive health.

Resumo: Este artigo se propõe analisar como a identidade nacional brasileira tem se constituído em um campo de batalha acerca da questão racial. Ele se propõe a investigar duas formas de pensar o conceito de comunidade imaginada de Benedict Anderson a partir da questão racial: a miscigenação de Gilberto Freyre e o dualismo branco/negro de Fanon. Partindo da análise dos livros Casa grande e senzala e Pele negra máscaras brancas, o texto mostra como o Movimento Negro tem contestado a perspectiva de democracia racial e reivindicado uma política identitária que leva em consideração a hierarquização da vida da população branca e negra.

Abstract: The present article seeks to analyze how the national Brazilian identity has become a battlefield around the racial issue. It proposes to investigate two ways of conceiving Benedict Anderson’s concept of imagined community regarding the racial matter: Gilberto Freyre’s miscegenation and Frantz Fanon’s black and white dualism. Having the analysis of Casa grande e senzala (The masters and the slaves) and Pele negra máscaras brancas (Black skin, white masks) as my departure point, I show how the Black Movement has been contesting the racial democracy perspective and demanding an identitarian politics that takes into consideration the hierarchy between white and black people.

To provide a novel resource for analysis of the genome of Biomphalaria glabrata, members of the international Biomphalaria glabrata Genome Initiative (<A HREF="http://biology.unm.edu/biomphalaria-genome.html">biology.unm.edu/biomphalaria-genome.html</A>), working with the Arizona Genomics Institute (AGI) and supported by the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), produced a high quality bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) library. The BB02 strain B. glabrata, a field isolate (Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brasil) that is susceptible to several strains of Schistosoma mansoni, was selfed for two generations to reduce haplotype diversity in the offspring. High molecular weight DNA was isolated from ovotestes of 40 snails, partially digested with HindIII, and ligated into pAGIBAC1 vector. The resulting B. glabrata BAC library (BG_BBa) consists of 61824 clones (136.3 kb average insert size) and provides 9.05 × coverage of the 931 Mb genome. Probing with single/low copy number genes from B. glabrata and fingerprinting of selected BAC clones indicated that the BAC library sufficiently represents the gene complement. BAC end sequence data (514 reads, 299860 nt) indicated that the genome of B. glabrata contains ~ 63% AT, and disclosed several novel genes, transposable elements, and groups of high frequency sequence elements. This BG_BBa BAC library, available from AGI at cost to the research community, gains in relevance because BB02 strain B. glabrata is targeted whole genome sequencing by NHGRI.
