Abstract Few studies on the distribution of oral diseases in older people are available in the literature. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and demographic characteristics of oral and maxillofacial lesions in geriatric patients (age ≥ 60 years). A retrospective descriptive cross-sectional study was performed. Biopsy records were obtained from archives of three Brazilian oral pathology centers over a 20-year period. Data on sex, age, anatomical site, skin color, and histopathological diagnosis were collected and analyzed. Pearson’s chi-square test was used to evaluate differences in the frequency of the different oral and maxillofacial lesion groups. A total of 7,476 biopsy records of older patients were analyzed. Most cases were diagnosed in patients aged 60 to 69 years (n = 4,487; 60.0%). Females were more affected (n = 4,403; 58.9%) with a female-to-male ratio of 1:0.7 (p < 0.001). The tongue (n = 1,196; 16.4%), lower lip (n = 1,005; 13.8%), and buccal mucosa (n = 997; 13.7%) were the most common anatomical sites. Reactive and inflammatory lesions (n = 3,840; 51.3%) were the most prevalent non-neoplastic pathologies (p < 0.001), followed by cysts (n = 475; 6.4%). Malignant neoplasms were more frequent (n = 1,353; 18.1%) than benign neoplasms (n = 512; 6.8%). Fibrous/fibroepithelial hyperplasia (n = 2,042; 53.2%) (p < 0.001) and squamous cell carcinoma (n = 1,191; 88.03%) (p < 0.001) were the most common oral lesions in older adults. Biopsy data allow the accurate characterization of the prevalence of oral and maxillofacial lesions, supporting the development of public health policies that can enable the prevention, early diagnosis, and appropriate treatment of these lesions. Also, they bring valuable information that helps dentists and geriatricians diagnose these diseases.

Abstract Dermoid cysts (DCs) and epidermoid cysts (ECs) are uncommon developmental cysts affecting the oral cavity. This study aims to evaluate patients with oral DCs and ECs and their demographic and clinicopathologic features. A retrospective descriptive cross-sectional study was performed. A total of 105,077 biopsy records of oral and maxillofacial lesions from seven Brazilian oral pathology centers were analyzed. All cases diagnosed as oral DCs and ECs were reviewed, and clinical, demographic, and histopathological data were collected. The series comprised 32 DCs (31.4%) and 70 ECs (68.6%). Most of the DCs occurred on the floor of the mouth (n = 14; 45.2%) of women (n = 17; 53.1%) with a mean age of 34.6 ± 21.6 years. All DCs were lined partially or entirely by stratified squamous epithelium (100%). Chronic inflammatory cells, melanin pigmentation, multinucleated giant cell reaction, and cholesterol clefts were observed in the fibrous capsule . Most of the ECs affected the labial mucosa (n = 20; 31.7%) of men (n = 39; 56.5%) with a mean age of 48.0±19.8 years. Microscopically, most ECs (n = 68; 97.1%) were lined entirely by stratified squamous epithelium. Two cysts (2.9%) showed areas of respiratory metaplasia. Chronic inflammatory cells, melanin pigmentation, multinucleated giant cell reaction, and cholesterol clefts were also observed in the fibrous capsule. Conservative surgical excision was the treatment of choice in all cases. Oral DCs and ECs are uncommon and often clinically misdiagnosed lesions. Clinicians should consider DCs and ECs in the differential diagnosis of soft tissue lesions in the oral cavity, mainly located on the floor of the mouth and labial mucosa.

Resumo O presente estudo teve como objetivo a avaliação dos parâmetros físico-químicos e microbiológicos, e da atividade antioxidante de polpas de frutas produzidas e comercializadas no município de Santarém-PA. Foram analisadas três marcas de polpas congeladas de acerola (Malpighia emarginata), cupuaçu (Theobroma grandiflorum) e maracujá (Passiflora edulis), com a finalidade de verificar a sua adequação às normas e aos Padrões de Identidade e Qualidade (PIQ) estipulados pela legislação brasileira. Os parâmetros analisados foram pH, acidez total titulável, sólidos solúveis totais, sólidos totais, cinzas e ácido ascórbico; buscou-se determinar o teor de polifenóis totais e da atividade antioxidante pelo método de DPPH, e foram realizadas análises microbiológicas para pesquisa de bolores e leveduras, coliformes fecais e Salmonella sp. As médias dos tratamentos foram comparadas pelo teste de Tukey, adotando-se o nível de significância 95%. Os resultados revelaram que apenas o parâmetro pH estava de acordo com a legislação. Após a análise de acidez total titulável e sólidos totais, pôde-se constatar que todas as amostras não atenderam aos valores estabelecidos pela legislação. A análise de polifenóis totais e a atividade antioxidante revelaram que as polpas de acerola se destacaram pelo expressivo teor desses componentes, sendo estas consideradas como boa fonte de substâncias antioxidantes. Já os resultados das análises microbiológicas demonstraram que todas as amostras estavam de acordo com a legislação em vigor. As variações reportadas na maioria das análises mostram a necessidade da padronização dos processos produtivos das polpas.

Abstract The present study aimed to evaluate the physical-chemical, microbiological parameters, and antioxidant activity of fruit pulps produced and marketed in Santarém-PA. Three manufacturers of frozen fruit pulp of acerola (Malpighia emarginata), cupuaçu (Theobroma grandiflorum), and passion fruit (Passiflora edulis) were analyzed, in order to verify their compliance to the Standards and Identity and Quality Standards (PIQ's) established by Brazilian legislation. The analyzed parameters were pH, titratable total acidity, soluble solids, total solids, ash and ascorbic acid; determination of the total polyphenol content, and antioxidant activity by the DPPH method, and microbiological analyzes for mold and yeast, fecal coliforms and Salmonella sp. The means of the treatments were compared by the Tukey test, adopting the 95% level of significance. The results showed that only the pH parameter was in accordance with the legislation. After analysis of titratable total acidity and total solids, it was possible to verify that not all the samples met the values established by the legislation. The analysis of total polyphenols and the antioxidant activity revealed that the acerola pulp was featured by the expressive content of these components, being considered as a good source of antioxidant substances. The results of the microbiological analyzes showed that all the samples were in accordance with the legislation in force. The variations reported in the majority of the analyzes show the necessity of the standardization of the productive processes of the pulps.

RESUMO A produção de hortaliças é uma atividade impactante, que se caracteriza pelo uso intensivo do solo, alta demanda de insumos e requer adoção estratégica de manejo, sobretudo em sistemas de produção sustentável, em que os pilares da sustentabilidade (ambiental, social e econômico) devem ser respeitados. Neste sentido, o objetivo desse trabalho foi avaliar indicadores econômicos da produção de alface adubada com espécie espontânea da Caatinga (Calotropis procera: Flor-de-seda) e cultivada em duas épocas (primavera e outono-inverno), no município de Serra Talhada-PE. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados, com os tratamentos arranjados em esquema fatorial 4 x 4, com três repetições, sendo o primeiro fator: as quantidades de biomassa do adubo verde (5,4; 8,8; 12,2 e 15,6 t ha-1 em base seca); e o segundo: seus tempos de incorporação ao solo (0, 10, 20 e 30 dias antes do transplantio da alface). Além do rendimento de massa verde e dos custos de produção, foram determinadas as rendas bruta e líquida, taxa de retorno e índice de lucratividade. A quantidade de 15,6 t ha-1 de C. procera possibilitou maior rentabilidade à produção orgânica de alface, sendo considerado ideal incorporar o adubo verde 11 (primavera) e 15 (outono-inverno) dias antes do transplantio da hortaliça. O cultivo de primavera promoveu retorno econômico superior ao plantio de outono-inverno, demonstrando viabilidade econômica mesmo na menor quantidade de C. procera.

ABSTRACT Vegetable production is an impactful activity, characterized by intensive land use, high input demand, and it requires strategic management adoption, especially in sustainable production systems, where the pillars of sustainability (environmental, social and economic) must be respected. In this sense, the objective of this work was to evaluate economic indicators of lettuce production using Caatinga spontaneous species (Calotropis procera: rooster tree) as fertilizer and cultivated in two seasons (spring and fall-winter) in the municipality of Serra Talhada, PE. The experimental design was in randomized blocks, arranged in a 4 x 4 factorial scheme, with three replications. The first factor was the biomass amounts of green manure (5.4, 8.8, 12.2 and 15.6 t ha-1 on a dry basis); and the second was their incorporation times in the soil (0, 10, 20 and 30 days before lettuce transplanting). The green mass yield, production costs, rate of return, and net profit margin were determined. The amount 15.6 t ha-1 of C. procera allowed higher profitability to the organic production of lettuce, and it is considered ideal to incorporate the green manure 11 (spring) and 15 (fall-winter) days before transplanting the vegetable. The spring crop promoted a superior economic return to the fall-winter planting, demonstrating economic viability even in the smallest amount of C. procera.

RESUMO A presente investigação teve como objetivo principal estudar os processos psicossociais da resiliência entre as pessoas que convivem com o HIV. Trata-se de uma pesquisa transversal com dados qualitativos que foi realizada com 44 pessoas em acompanhamento no Centro de Testagem e Aconselhamento de Parnaíba- Piauí. Os resultados mostraram alguns fatores de risco e, também, de proteção, tais como preconceito e exclusão, dificuldades de iniciar o tratamento antirretroviral, complicações do uso dos medicamentos e importância do apoio social para que haja diminuição dos fatores de risco e melhor predisposição ao desenvolvimento da resiliência. Foi concluído que fatores psicossociais podem predispor os indivíduos ao maior desenvolvimento do processo de resiliência.

ABSTRACT The main objective of the present research was to study the psychosocial processes of resilience among people living with HIV. It is a cross-sectionalresearch with qualitative data that was carried out with 44 people in treatment at the Testing and Counseling Center of Parnaíba-Piauí. The results showed some risk and protection factors, such as prejudice and exclusion, difficulties in initiating antiretroviral treatment, complications in using prescribed drugs, and the relevance of social support to reduce risk factors and promote better predisposition to development. of resilience. It was concluded that psychosocial factors may predispose individuals to a greater development of the resilience process.

RESUMO: Objetivou-se com este estudo avaliar diferentes materiais para ensacamento a campo quanto às alterações físico-químicas causadas em frutos de meloeiro Cantaloupe. O estudo foi conduzido em ambiente protegido localizado na cidade de Goiânia, Goiás. O experimento foi composto por cinco tratamentos, referentes ao ensacamento de frutos de meloeiro Cantaloupe com quatro materiais (papel jornal, papel Kraft, TNT e polietileno) e um tratamento controle, sem ensacamento, dispostos em blocos casualizados, com cinco repetições, representadas por uma planta com um fruto cada. Os frutos foram avaliados quanto às características físico-químicas. Também foi contabilizado o número de dias desde o ensacamento até a colheita e observados os aspectos visuais dos frutos. Verificou-se que os materiais influenciaram as características relativas ao acúmulo de sólidos solúveis e espessura do halo verde da polpa, o intervalo de tempo entre o ensacamento e a colheita e os aspectos visuais dos frutos. Recomenda-se o ensacamento de melões Cantaloupe com a utilização do TNT ou a não utilização da técnica, em condições semelhantes às do estudo. Em complemento, não é recomendada a utilização do polietileno para o ensacamento dos frutos, uma vez que esse material tem efeito deletério sobre as características essenciais à comercialização.

ABSTRACT: The objective of this study was to evaluate different materials for field bagging with respect to the physicochemical changes caused in cantaloupe melon fruits. The study was conducted in a protected environment in the city of Goiânia, Goiás in Brazil. The experiment consisted of five treatments, with bagging of cantaloupe melon fruits with four materials (newspaper, Kraft paper, NWF, and polyethylene) and a control treatment without bagging, in a randomized block design with five replications of one plant with a fruit each. Fruits were evaluated for physicochemical characteristics. Number of days from bagging to harvest was also recorded and visual aspects of the fruit were observed. The materials as well as the time interval between the bagging and harvest affect physicochemical characteristics such as accumulation of soluble solids and thickness of the green pulp halo and visual aspects of the fruit. This study recommends bagging cantaloupe melons using white non-woven fabric or to not use the technique at all, under the conditions similar to those used in the study. In addition, using polyethylene for the bagging of fruit is not recommended, because this material has a deleterious effect on the characteristics essential for commercialization of melons.

ResumoO objetivo com este trabalho foi avaliar o desempenho e o rendimento de carcaça de suínos na fase de terminação de machos castrados e fêmeas, recebendo dietas contendo diferentes níveis de ractopamina. Foram utilizados 60 animais, com peso inicial de 84,27 ± 2,26kg, aleatoriamente distribuídos para uma das seis dietas experimentais compostas por diferentes níveis de ractopamina (zero; três; seis; nove; 12 e 15ppm) e cinco repetições por tratamento. Ao final do período experimental, foi avaliado o efeito dos diferentes níveis de ractopamina sobre o peso final (PF), consumo de ração médio diário (CRMD), ganho de peso médio diário (GPMD), conversão alimentar (CA) e rendimento de carcaça. Observou-se aumento linear (P<0,05) para peso final e ganho de peso médio diário, à medida que houve aumento dos níveis de ractopamina. Para a conversão alimentar (P<0,05), evidenciou-se decréscimo de 25,50% nos animais que receberam 15ppm de ractopamina na dieta. Para o consumo de ração médio diário e rendimento de carcaça, não foram observados efeitos significativos (P>0,05). A adição de ractopamina na dieta de suínos machos castrados e fêmeas em terminação proporcionou melhor desempenho aos animais, promovendo melhoras nos parâmetros produtivos.

AbstractThe objective of this study was to evaluate the performance and carcass yield of finishing castrated males and females pigs, supplemented with diets containing different levels of ractopamine. Sixty animals were used, with initial body weight of 84.27 ± 2.26kg, distributed in a randomized block design, consisting of six levels of ractopamine (0; 3; 6; 9; 12 and 15ppm) and five repetitions per treatment. At the end of the trial period, it was evaluated the effect of different levels of ractopamine on the final body weight (FW), average daily feed intake (ADFI), average daily weight gain (ADG), feed conversion (FC) and carcass yield. It was observed a linear increase (P<0,05) in the levels of ractopamine for final weight, as well as for the average daily weight gain. For feed conversion (P<0,05), it was evident a decrease of 25.50% in animals supplemented with 15ppm of ractopamine in the diet. For average daily feed intake and carcass yield there was no significant effect (P>0,05). The supplementation with ractopamine in the diet of finishing castrated males and females pigs, provides greater performance to the animals, improving production yield.

O objetivo do presente estudo foi aplicar e avaliar a eficácia de uma sistematização de ensino do futebol centrada no uso de jogos sobre o conhecimento tático processual de jovens jogadores. Participaram 16 voluntários alunos de uma escola de futebol vinculada a um clube de futebol profissional do interior do estado de São Paulo - Brasil. Para tal, os voluntários foram submetidos a 37 aulas organizadas em três diferentes módulos, com conteúdos específicos. A análise quanto à evolução do aprendizado dos participantes foi baseada no sistema de avaliação tática denominado FUT-SAT. Este instrumento considera a ação tática realizada, a localização da ocorrência, assim como seu resultado prático, gerando um Índice de Performance Tática (IPT) e um Número de Ações Táticas (NAT) para cada jogador analisado. Para avaliar e comparar o desenvolvimento do aprendizado tático dos participantes foram realizadas quatro avaliações, uma pré-intervenção (1ª), uma pós-intervenção (4ª) e duas intermediárias (2ª e 3ª). A 2ª e a 3ª avaliações foram realizadas após a última aula do Módulo 1 e 2 respectivamente. Ao comparar os valores médios dos IPTs ofensivos, defensivos e do jogo obtidos na 1ª avaliação, nomeada pré-intervenção, com os valores da 4ª avaliação, ou pós-intervenção, observou-se um aumento significante (p ≤ 0,05). Face ao exposto, a sistematização de ensino proposta neste estudo oportunizou um desenvolvimento significante na aprendizagem tática dos jogadores participantes.

The aim of this study was to implement and evaluate a based on games teaching systematization of soccer for young players. The study was realized at a soccer school of a professional soccer club cited in São Paulo state - Brazil. It has 16 volunteers, who underwent 37 lessons organized into three different modules, with specific content. The analysis regarding the evolution of the participant’s learning was based on tactical assessment system called FUT-SAT. This instrument considers the tactical action performed, the location of the occurrence, as well as its practical outcome, generating a Tactical Performance Index (IPT), and a number of Tactical Actions (NAT) for each player analyzed. To evaluate and compare the development of tactical learning of the participants, four tests were performed, one as a control function, during the first class, and the other three during the last class of each teaching module. Comparing the mean values of the offensive, defensive and game IPT obtained in 1th recording, named pre -intervention, with the values of the 4th recording, or post-intervention, there was a significant increase (p ≤ 0.05). From the data obtained, the systematization of teaching proposed in this study provided an opportunity significant positive development in learning tactical players involved.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar a densidade de estocagem de matrinxã (Brycon orthotaenia) em tanques-rede, considerando o desempenho produtivo. Foram utilizados 5.280 juvenis de Brycon orthotaenia com peso inicial de 115,2g±5,7, os quais foram distribuídos em 16 tanques-rede de 4³m nas densidades de 45, 70, 95 e 120 peixes m-3 em quatro repetições. Os peixes foram alimentados com ração comercial de 40% de proteína bruta durante o período experimental. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância e à regressão linear para estimativa do melhor ajuste a 5% de probabilidade. Os parâmetros produtivos como sobrevivência, peso inicial, peso final, conversão alimentar e taxa de crescimento específico não foram influenciados pela densidade de estocagem, assim como os parâmetros de qualidade da água. Entretanto, para a variável biomassa final, ganho de biomassa e consumo de ração total, o efeito foi significativo e estas apresentaram relação linear positiva com a densidade de estocagem. Avaliando os resultados, pode-se concluir que a densidade de estocagem de matrinxã (Brycon orthotaenia) até 120 peixes m-3 é a que proporciona maior produtividade e não representa efeitos negativos sobre o desempenho dos peixes.

The objective of this study was to determine the stocking density of matrinxã (Brycon orthotaenia) in cages, considering the productive performance. Juvenile Brycon orthotaenia (n = 5280) were distributed in 16 cages of 4m³ at densities of 45, 70, 95 and 120 fish m-3. The fish were fed with commercial feed with 40% crude protein during all experimental period. Data were subjected to analysis of variance and linear regression to estimate the best fit using 5% probability. The production parameters such as survival, initial weight, final weight, feed conversion and specific growth rate were not influenced by stocking density, as well as the parameters of water quality. However, final biomass, biomass gain and feed intake showed a positive linear relationship with stocking density. Evaluating these results, it was concluded that the stocking density of matrinxã (Brycon orthotaenia) up to 120 fish m-3 represent the best productive performance.

Estudamos 386 casos de trauma raquimedular, observando a evolução dos pacientes admitidos na maioria das vezes após quatro horas do trauma, a maioria procedente de lugar distante do serviço de saúde. Trata-se de um estudo clínico baseado em dados coletados durante a hospitalização, de pacientes operados ou não, em serviço de saúde pública no Brasil. Na maioria das vezes a lesão principal foi fratura-luxação, isolada ou em múltiplos níveis, e as complicações clínicas mais importantes foram devido à insuficiência respiratória e hipotensão, especialmente porque 73.8% dos casos eram de lugares distantes, tendo sido admitidos mais de quatro horas após o trauma. A taxa de mortalidade foi 11,9%, sendo 2,1% em pós-operatório. As complicações resultaram em maior risco de morte quando o trauma foi ao nível cervical, idade acima de 50 anos, especialmente aqueles admitidos com mais de quatro horas. Enfatizamos a importância do primeiro atendimento na admissão, sobretudo para as alterações respiratórias e hemodinâmicas, objetivando reduzir a mortalidade.

We studied 386 cases of spinal cord injury to analyze the follow up of the patients admitted most of the time more than four hours, the majority of the injuries happening far from the attending health service and first specialized care received long after the accident. This is a clinical study based on data collected during hospitalization of the patients, operated or not, in a Brazilian public health service. The lesion mainly seen was fracture and dislocation, isolated or on multiple levels, and the most important clinical complications were due to respiratory failure and hypotension, especially because 73.8% were from outside and they were admitted more then four hours after the trauma. The mortality rate was 11.9%, but just 2.1% had undergone a surgery. The complications resulted in major risk of death when the trauma was at the cervical level and the patients were over 50 years old, especially when admitted more than four hours after the trauma. We emphasize the importance of the first health care concerning the clinical treatment, aiming to reduce the mortality rate.
