Abstract More than 40 years of ongoing archaeological research has been conducted in central-western Santa Cruz (Patagonia, Argentina). Since the very beginning several connections were initiated by the research team with the communities from Perito Moreno, Gobernador Gregores and Lago Posadas. A variety of talks and workshops with different social actors were carried out in these localities. In recent years several factors led to the systematization of the management and extension activities. Specifically, different activities in the forenamed localities and in Buenos Aires´ metropolitan area were undertaken with the participation of students and educators from different levels, authorities, touristic entrepreneurs, aboriginal representatives and other villagers. In this article, we firstly aim to summarize our team´s experiences related to the public communication of science during almost four decades. We consider the type of activities executed and the relation with the different localities and publics. We also compare this trajectory with local circumstances and consider other contextual aspects that have had an impact in the development of the different activities. Lastly, we reflect upon the characteristics of our own experience in the public communication of science considering its scope and limitations.

ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. The importance of the CTFB is evidenced by the elevated number of citations in the scientific literature in diverse areas of biology, law, anthropology, education, forensic science, and veterinary science, among others. publications problem uptodate up date classifications context exception (CTFB http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/, httpfaunajbrjgovbr http //fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ , jbrj gov br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/) 2015 Brazil 80 specialists 1 2024 133691 133 691 133,69 125138 125 138 125,13 82.3%, 823 82 3 (82.3% 102000 102 000 102,00 7.69%, 769 7 69 (7.69% 11000 11 11,00 . 3,567 3567 567 (3,56 2,292 2292 2 292 (2,29 1,833 1833 833 (1,83 1,447 1447 447 (1,44 1000 1,00 831 (83 628 (62 606 (60 520 (52 50 users science health biology law anthropology education others http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ faunajbrjgovbr //fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ 201 8 202 13369 13 133,6 12513 12 125,1 82.3% (82.3 10200 10 00 102,0 7.69% 76 6 (7.69 1100 11,0 3,56 356 56 (3,5 2,29 229 29 (2,2 1,83 183 83 (1,8 1,44 144 44 (1,4 100 1,0 (8 62 (6 60 52 (5 5 http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br 20 1336 133, 1251 125, 82.3 (82. 1020 0 102, 7.69 (7.6 110 11, 3,5 35 (3, 2,2 22 (2, 1,8 18 (1, 1,4 14 4 ( 82. ABSTRACT Objectives: to map the educational actions conducted with primary health care professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: a scoping review conducted in August 2023, which covered databases such as CINAHL, Medline, LILACS, IBECS, BDENF, and Web of Science.
Abstract In this scientific article, the issue of the unenforceability of judgments from the Inter- American Court of Human Rights (IACHR) within the Ecuadorian constitutional framework was examined. This topic arose from the inherent tension between respecting international human rights standards and defending the legal sovereignty of states. Through analysis, we explored how the implementation of IACHR decisions can be affected by specific factors in the Ecuadorian context, considering both legal and political elements. The methodology to be used in the article lies uin qualitative research. Documentary research was methodological tool, since it is applied as a tool in the compilation of reliable information from documents and bibliographic materials. This investigative analysis highlights the complex relationship between constitutionality control and compliance with ISCHR sentences, with a specific focus om Ecuador.

Abstract: Background: Loot boxes (LBs) are virtual objects that players open without knowing the value of the item they will obtain. Because of their features, studies have explored their association with gambling, finding commonalities. However, risk factors have been overlooked. This study examined risk factors associated with gambling as applied to LBs (gambling in the past year, having family/friends who use LBs/gamble, trait impulsivity, and sensation-seeking). Method: 253 participants (82.2% men) with a mean age of 28 years (SD = 12.11)-in three groups: gamblers (n = 89), LB purchasers (n = 63), and free-LB openers (n = 101)-completed a self-report. Results: Having family/friends who used LBs was related to increased engagement in opening LBs at no cost. However, having gambled in the past year or having family/friends who used LBs or who gambled was not associated with increased purchasing. Gamblers, LB purchasers, and LB openers scored equally highly on impulsivity and sensation-seeking. Because some gamblers used LBs, and LB purchasers also opened free-LBs, further analyses were performed to control for the effects of overlapping groups. Loot boxers had higher scores in sensation-seeking than gamblers. Conclusions: The results can contribute to the development of prevention and intervention strategies for LB users.

Abstract: Hyperspectral images have been used for several years, since the information they provide is very useful in many areas of science. The present work focuses on the visualization of hyperspectral images of the visible range in the RGB color space. The images were obtained using a hyperspectral imaging system (HIS) that was built in the laboratory and a monochrome image sensor was used to capture the images. The visualization process was achieved by means of an algorithm programmed in MATLAB for the coloration of the monochrome images and the comparison of the colored images with images captured in the same wavelengths with an RGB sensor was carried out.

Abstract Kwashiorkor syndrome is characterized by protein malnutrition and edema, risk factors are recent weaning, infections, and diets based on corn and rice. This malnutrition can lead to skin manifestations such as thin, dry skin, hyperpigmentation, confluent areas of scaling, dry, hypopigmented, and detachable hair, as well as erosive dermatitis, predominantly in skin folds. The diagnosis is based on a nutritional evaluation exam, physical examination and laboratory finding, the treatment is based on early nutritional rehabilitation. Clinical case: 8-month-old female infant who attended the Instituto Nacional de Pediatría, presenting a scaling dermatosis of 1 month’s evolution that was treated with topical ketoconazole. The mother reported exclusive feeding with corn gruel due to the diagnosis of “lactose allergy” and commented not enough resources to buy hydrolyzed formula. The patient presented a disseminated dermatosis to all body segments, characterized by well-defined, irregularly shaped, hyperpigmented plaques with scaling in thick sheets in the perioral region and extremities, as well as areas of eroded skin and paleness and edema of extremities. Laboratory tests were taken, where anemia (Hb 11.2 g/dl) and hipoalbuminemia (3.3 g/dl) were documented, the diagnosis of kwashiorkor syndrome was integrated. The clinical and laboratory findings were reported to the Gastroenterology and Nutrition service, who performed a nutritional assessment, and began nutritional treatment, emollients and general skin care were documented; twenty days later, the dermatosis and edema had subsided.

Abstract. Mexico imports approximately 25% of the milk consumed in the country, this quantity is comparable to 30% of domestic production. Because of this, the Mexican producer price might be influenced by the international milk price. Therefore, the purpose of this research was to analyze price transmission between the international market and the Mexican milk market in the national, regional (Jalisco), and municipal (Chicontepec, Veracruz) scope. For this, stationarity of the series was determined using the Augmented Dickey-Fuller test, cointegration was examined using the Johansen test, and an error correction model and an asymmetric error correction model were estimated. The results indicate that milk producer prices in Mexico are cointegrated with the Oceania, the European Union, and the United States prices, being the latter the ones that have the greatest effects on the producer price in Mexico and are transmitted in a symmetric way to the Mexican market. Besides, it was found that the speed of adjustment of the producer price in the event of deviations from equilibrium is superior for the regional scope, followed by the national and the municipal scope. Meaning that the variations of the international price affect the Mexican milk producers in a different way.

Abstract The objective of this study was to identify in Angus and Brangus breed animals with extreme temperament, measured as exit velocity, genomic regions and candidate genes associated with bovine temperament. The population was genotyped with the Genomic Profiler HD 150K chip and after the genome-wide association analysis, the SNPs rs133956611 (P=2.65 E-06) and rs81144933 (P=9.58 E-06) were associated with temperament. The mapping analysis of the regions close to the SNP rs81144933 identified the SNCA (alpha-synuclein) and MMRN1 (multimerin-1) genes at 222.8 and 435.9 Kb downstream respectively, while for the rs133956611 loci the gene GPRIN3 (GPRIN family-member-3) was identified at 245.7 Kb upstream, all three genes are located on the BTA6 chromosome. The analysis of SNCA protein-protein interactions allowed the identification of the genes APP (β-amyloid precursor protein), PARK7 (parkinsonism-associated-deglycase), UCHL1 (ubiquitin-C-terminal-hydrolase-L1), PARK2 (parkin-RBR- E3-ubiquitin-protein-ligase), and genes of the SLC family as candidates to be associated with bovine temperament. All these candidate genes and their interacting were resequenced, which allowed the discovery of new SNPs in the SNCA and APP genes. Of these, the SNPs located in introns 5, 8 and 11 of the APP gene affect splicing site motifs. These results indicate that SNCA and its interacting genes are candidates to be related to bovine temperament.

ABSTRACT. In a hypothesis test, a researcher initially fixes a type I error rate, that is, the probability of rejecting the null hypothesis given that it is true. In the case of means tests, it is important to present a type I error that is equal to the nominal pre-fixed level, such that this error remains unchanged across various scenarios, including the number of treatments, number of repetitions, and coefficient of variation. The purpose of this study is to analyse and compare the following multiple comparison tests for the control of both conditional and unconditional type I error rates, depending on a significant F-test in the analysis of variance: Tukey, Duncan, Fisher’s least significant difference, Student-Newman-Keuls (SNK), and Scheffé. As an application, we present a motivation study and develop a simulation study using the Monte Carlo method for a total of 64 scenarios. In each simulated scenario, we estimate the comparison-wise and experiment-wise error rates, conditional and unconditional on a significant result of the overall F-test of analysis of variance for each of the five multiple comparison tests evaluated. The results indicate that the application of the means tests based only on the significance of the F-test should be considered when determining the error rates, as this can change them. In addition, we find that Fisher’s test controls for the comparison-wise error rate, the Tukey and SNK tests control for the experiment-wise error rate, and the Duncan and Fisher tests control for the conditional experiment-wise error rate. Scheffé’s test does not control for any of the error rates considered. ABSTRACT Introduction: Negative pressure therapy gains ground in surgical practice as an intervention to improve healing. Post-bariatric patients undergoing abdominal dermolipectomy are at increased risk of local complications. There is a notable dearth of current Brazilian studies on this. This study aims to analyze the presence of complications in patients undergoing post-bariatric dermolipectomy surgery with negative pressure dressing in closed surgical incisions. Method: Descriptive study that evaluated complications of surgical incisions in 20 patients undergoing post-bariatric dermolipectomy surgery with negative pressure therapy. Data tabulated in Windows Excel software and analyzed in the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences 18.0 program. Qualitative variables were presented in simple frequency and quantitative as mean, standard deviation, and amplitude. CEP-UNISUL approved the study. Results: 20 patients undergoing negative pressure therapy, 80% (n=16) female, mean age 39.55 years (±9.08). Anchor incision was chosen in 70% (n=14) of the surgeries, with an average tissue removal of 1940 grams (±710.37) and hospitalization time of 40.20 hours (±19.18), corresponding to 1,66 daily. Only 15% (n=3) of patients had complications (dehiscence, seroma, and hematoma, which occurred in the same proportion). There was no case of necrosis. Conclusion: The use of negative pressure therapy in closed surgical incisions of post-bariatric dermolipectomy seems to contribute to reducing postoperative complications. Dados tabulados no software Windows Excel e analisados no programa Statistical Package for the Social Sciences 18.0.
