RESUMO O estudo analisa casos de empresas multinacionais em diferentes setores: bens de consumo, sucroenergético, químico, e transportes. A principal contribuição da pesquisa é focada na discussão em como diferentes instrumentos de políticas públicas e ambientes institucionais direcionam projetos de ecoinovação em empresas, contribuindo para o desenvolvimento de uma economia de baixo carbono.

ABSTRACT This study analyzes cases of multinationals companies in different sectors: consumer goods, energy and sugarcane, chemical and transportation. Its main contribution is focused on how different public policy instruments and institutional environments are driving eco-innovation projects in companies, contributing to the development of a low-carbon economy.

This study aims at identifying the practices of water use management and the business performance in industries in the Brazilian mineral sector. To this end, a descriptive and quantitative study was developed, using the survey method, in industries associated with the Brazilian Mining Institute - IBRAM. The water use management practices were identified based in a model addressing the following aspects: water accounting, risk assessment, direct operations, supply chain, and stakeholders engagement. The business performance was measured from a model involving the following dimensions: economic, environmental and social. Among the results, the risks assessment involved and the direct operations practices stand out, in order to reduce the amount of water used and waste discharges. The need for greater engagement of industries with the stakeholders and the supply chain, through a more integrated and collaborative management, was also evident.

No ambiente dinâmico e complexo de negócios, caracterizado por desafios constantes, o eficaz gerenciamento de projetos é um dos determinantes da sobrevivência das organizações. Todavia, para alcançarem melhor desempenho, as empresas precisam ter processos de gerenciamento de projetos estruturados e maduros. Embora existam diversos modelos de maturidade, que proporcionam uma abordagem quantitativa, o caminho em sua busca não tem sido um assunto empiricamente pesquisado, portanto, o objetivo neste estudo foi identificar os principais fatores condicionantes da maturidade em gerenciamento de projetos em organizações brasileiras. Para tanto, foi adotado o método de pesquisa de estudo de campo, por meio de e-survey, de natureza descritiva e correlacional, junto a 473 participantes, tomadores ou influenciadores de decisões em gerenciamento de projetos, quanto à sua percepção sobre os fatores condicionantes, representando 360 organizações de diferentes tipos, portes e segmentos da economia brasileira. Os resultados do estudo permitem concluir que os principais fatores condicionantes da maturidade em gerenciamento de projetos nas empresas estudadas observam a seguinte hierarquia, do mais para o menos importante: processos e ferramentas; pessoas e equipe; apoio organizacional; orientação a clientes; qualidade dos gerentes de projetos; e orientação a negócios. Esses fatores condicionantes, especialmente o primeiro, se trabalhados adequadamente nas organizações, podem alavancar os níveis de maturidade em gerenciamento de projetos.

In the dynamic and complex business environment, characterized by constant challenges, effective project management is a major determinant of survival for organizations. However, in order to achieve better performance, organizations must have structured and mature project management processes. Although there are many maturity models which provide a quantitative approach, the path in search of maturity has not been empirically studied as a subject. The objective of this study was to identify the main factors for maturity in project management in Brazilian organizations. To this end, we adopted the research method field study, by means of descriptive and correlational e-survey with 473 participants, decision makers, or decision influencers in project management - representing 360 organizations of different types, sizes and segments of the Brazilian economy - and their understanding of the influencing factors. The results indicate that the main factors for maturity in project management in the companies studied observe the following hierarchy, from most to least: processes and tools; people and team; organizational support; customer orientation; quality of project managers; and orientation to business. These conditioning factors, especially the first, if properly applied in organizations, can leverage levels of maturity in project management.

En el ambiente dinámico y complejo de los negocios, que se caracteriza por desafíos constantes, la eficaz gestión de proyectos se convierte en un factor determinante de la sobrevivencia de las organizaciones. Sin embargo, para que logren un mejor desempeño, las empresas deben contar con procesos de gestión de proyectos estructurados y maduros. Aunque existan diferentes modelos de madurez que proporcionan un enfoque cuantitativo, el camino en su búsqueda no es un asunto que se haya estudiado empíricamente. Por tanto, el objetivo en este estudio fue identificar los factores condicionantes de la madurez en la gestión de proyectos en organizaciones brasileñas. Se adoptó el método de estudio de campo, por medio de un e-survey de naturaleza descriptiva y correlacional, que se aplicó a 473 participantes, tomadores o influenciadores de decisiones en gestión de proyectos, con el fin de analizar su percepción con relación a los factores condicionantes. Estos profesionales representan a 360 empresas de diferentes tipos, portes y segmentos de la economía brasileña. Los resultados permiten concluir que los principales factores condicionantes de la madurez en gestión de proyectos en estas empresas siguen la siguiente jerarquía (del factor más importante al menos importante): procesos y herramientas; personas y equipo; apoyo organizacional; orientación a clientes; calidad de los gerentes de proyectos; y orientación de negocios. Estos factores condicionantes, especialmente el primero, si se trabajan de manera adecuada en las organizaciones, pueden incrementar los niveles de madurez en gestión de proyectos.

The main objective of this study was to identify the main forms of management of sustainable technological innovation and examine the relation of these practices with the increased competitiveness of the Brazilian chemical industry in the international market. To conduct this research, we examined the management practices of a chemical industry located in southern Brazil through the descriptive and qualitative case study, using semi-structured interviews with those responsible for the company's innovation management and analyzing secondary data. The analyses of the survey results with respect to the relation between the sustainable technological innovation management and the increased international competitiveness of the chemical industry were not conclusive. The data only show that the management practices of sustainable innovation may represent motivations for seeking international partnerships and innovations that can be converted into business opportunities in the domestic and international market

The study looks to analyze the adoption of strategies for sustainable business and the performance of Brazilian industrial companies. The quantitative character research has involved the execution of a survey. The results have permitted to conclude that the Brazilian companies are enlarging their participation in the international market. However, one must observe that some factors still limit this performance in terms of innovation management and socio-environmental management. Concerning the technological innovation management, one observes that, in spite of the growth of use of external sources of innovation over the last few years, one must still go a long way in the sense of developing a corporate culture that may value the partnership and the collaboration between the companies. Concerning socio-environmental management, the research data confirm the studies by authors mentioned in the literature review who maintain that most Brazilian companies still adopt a reactive stance in relation to these issues.

A literatura sobre gestão de projetos mostra, de forma recorrente, a importância da figura do gerente no desempenho dos projetos. O presente artigo apresenta os resultados de um levantamento (survey) do papel do gerente de projetos de TI como elemento condicionante do desempenho desses projetos. Os resultados encontrados mostram que a relação do gerente de projetos com o desempenho dos projetos é alterada pelo nível de maturidade da organização executante em gestão de projetos. Nas organizações com menor maturidade existe uma relação muito mais forte do perfil do gerente com o desempenho dos projetos.Isso sugere que as organizações que conseguem estimular sua maturidade em gestão de projetos criam condições para que o desempenho de seus projetos fique menos dependente da ação individual dos gerentes.

The project management literature recognizes the importance of the project manager in the performance of projects. This article presents the results of a survey on the relation between IT project managers and project performance. The results showed that the relation of the project manager with projects performance is modified according to the level of project management maturity of the organization. In lower maturity level organizations, the relation between the project manager's profile and projects performance is stronger. This suggests that organizations that encourage project management maturity create conditions for their projects performances to be less dependent on the individual actions of project managers.

To provide new inferences on the relation between the management of technology information, sustainable development and the innovative performance of firms, a survey was carried out among Brazilian industrial enterprises with innovative characteristics. The study sought to understand how technological innovation management practices that take social and environmental responsibility into account influence firms' internationalization process. The independent and dependent variables suggest that there is a connection between managing technology for sustainable development and innovative performance. We tried to identify the main technological management practices that reflect commitment to sustainable development. The results suggest that firms' international success and high degree of competitiveness are based on offering innovative technology solutions that show commitment to the environment. The study identifies important elements of an emerging area of knowledge in the field of management sciences.

O estudo propõe-se a compreender o processo de gestão de fontes externas de informação tecnológica, focalizando as práticas adotadas pelas empresas, visando construir um referencial teórico-prático para o desenvolvimento de um processo de inovação tecnológica sustentável. A gestão de fontes de informação não ajuda somente a organização a combinar as fontes de informação internas e externas a serem consideradas, mas também a ampliar as suas atividades de inovação. As empresas estão incrementando as alianças para o uso de fontes externas de informação para inovação, porém ainda carecem de uma estratégia explícita de gestão. A pesquisa survey foi realizada em empresas industriais brasileiras com características inovadoras visando contribuir para as inferências sobre a relação da gestão de fontes externas de informação tecnológica e o desempenho inovador das empresas. A hipótese formulada buscou verificar a existência de associação entre a gestão de fontes externas de informação tecnológica e o desempenho inovador. Para a comprovação da hipótese, foram realizadas análises bivariadas e univariadas por meio da utilização das técnicas estatísticas de análise fatorial, correlação de Spearman e regressão logística. As análises bivariadas e multivariadas das variáveis independentes e dependentes sugerem a existência de associação entre a gestão de fontes externas de informação tecnológica e o desempenho inovador destacando-se a influência do tipo de fonte de informação nos indicadores relativos à inovação em produtos e do tipo de modalidade de acesso à tecnologia nos indicadores relacionados à inovação em processos.

The aim of this study is to understand the different processes for managing outside sources of technology information with a major focus on practices that companies actually adopt. The specific goal of the study is to construct a theoretical and practical frame of reference for developing processes of sustainable technological innovation. Managing sources of information not only helps an organization harmonize the potential inside and outside sources of information but also helps organizations broaden their activities geared to stimulating and bringing about innovation. Companies today are setting up more and more alliances in order to make use of outside sources of information for innovation, but they still lack explicit management strategies. A survey was carried out in Brazilian industrial companies with innovative characteristics, and the aim was to provide new inferences on the relationships between the management of outside sources of technology information and the innovative performance of the companies studied. The objective of the research presented in this paper is to study the relationship between practices for managing external sources of information and the innovative performance of the enterprise. The research can be characterized as quantitative. The data were collected through questionnaires from enterprises seen as having substancial technological innovation activities. The bivariate and multivariate independent and dependent variables suggest the existence of an association between the management of outside sources of technology information and innovative performance. Especially important here is how the different types of sources of information influence the indicators related to products innovation and how the type of access to technology affects the indicators related to processes innovation. The findings of the study suggest many significant relationships between the innovation performance of the enterprise and the types of sources of technological information used and the access modalities to their external sources of technolgical information. The results indicate a trend towards increased use of external sources of information.

The aim of this article is to describe and to analyze how the consolidation in the international markets of Brazilian construction companies occurred. The methodological procedures had been classified as descriptive conclusive research and data was collected under a qualitative orientation. A study of four companies was conducted: Andrade Gutierrez, Mendes Júnior, Norberto Odebrecht and Queiroz Galvão. A theoretical model with four analytical levels was considered: the macro context, the institutional environment, the industry and the firm. The results indicate that consolidation in international markets occurred largely as a result of factors concerning strategic management in response to the institutional processes and the appropriateness of the sector's competitive conditions. In theoretical terms, this article makes progress when understanding internationalization processes is concerned in that it proposes a model that integrates knowledge from the fields of study of administration, organizations and international business. Although the model may be refined in future research, we believe that it reflects an important step toward the development of a broad theoretical frame of reference capable of covering the wealth and diversity that are typical of international activity.

The study presents the result of a research that had the objective of evaluate the influence of the size of the company in the practices of management of external sources of technological information and the correspondent impacts of these practices in the innovation performance of the enterprise. The survey was carried based on data collected from a set of Brazilian industrial companies that are considered innovative The analysis of the relation between the management of external sources of technological information and the performance, according to the size of the companies disclosed that although being limited to a smal number there are some significant differences in aspects related to the access to technology and the types of external sources of technological information used by the firms. Some significant differences between small and larger firms on how these managerial practices affect the innovative performance were also detected.

O estudo constitui parte de uma pesquisa maior, que procurou analisar a relação de algumas práticas de gestão de fontes externas da informação tecnológica com o desempenho inovador da empresa. No presente artigo são apresentadas as principais praticas para a gestão de fontes externas de informação tecnológica e os principais indicadores de desempenho inovador. A amostra foi composta por empresas do setor industrial que são associadas à ANPEI ou/e integrantes do cadastro do PGT/USP. A amostra contém 72 empresas (38% do universo da pesquisa). Os resultados evidenciaram que a maioria das empresas é de grande porte e de setores tecnologicamente sofisticados. As principais modalidades de acesso às informações tecnológicas são: a aquisição por compra de tecnologia, a parceria com fornecedores, a aproximação com as universidades e a contratação de consultores. As principais fontes de informação são: Departamento de P&D, Outros Departamentos, os Fornecedores, as Feiras e Exibições, as Universidades, Clientes, Network e os Institutos de Pesquisa. Os principais indicadores de desempenho inovador utilizados estão relacionados a produtos e/ou processos. Finalmente, a pesquisa sugere que o processo da gestão de fontes externas de informação para inovação tecnológica é pouco formalizado e carece de uma perspectiva estratégica.

The study is part of a larger research project that sought to analyze the relationship between some management practices of external sources of technological information with the innovative performance of the enterprise. In this paper are presented the main practices for the management of external sources of technological information and some of the main indicators of innovation performance. The sample was composed of industrial enterprises associated with ANPEI and by companies on the mailing list of PGT/USP. The final sample had 72 subjects (38% of the research universe). The results suggest that most of the companies in the sample are large and belong to technologically sophisticated industrial sectors. The main access modalities to technological information are performed by: technology acquisition, partnership with suppliers and with universities. The main sources of technological information are: the R&D Department, Other Departments, Suppliers, Fairs and Exhibitions, Universities, Clients, Network and Research Institutes. The main innovation performance indicators used are closely related to products and/or processes. Finally, the results of the research suggest that the management of external sources of technological information for innovation lacks more formalization and strategic perspective.

O objetivo deste trabalho é mostrar os fatores críticos de sucesso para a criação de um processo sustentável de reciclagem que envolve a coordenação de muitos agentes econômicos e sociais. Isso é feito através de um estudo exploratório de um caso excepcional que trouxe ganhos para todos os stakeholders, em especial para a sociedade. O trabalho evidencia as barreiras encontradas, como foram superadas e extrai evidências sobre os fatores críticos de sucesso, que são os seguintes: visão estratégica e comprometimento da alta administração, estrutura de logística reversa adequada e estrutura de negócio que garante resultados econômicos e sua adequada distribuição.

The objective of this work is to show the critical success factors for the creation of a sustainable recycling process that involves the coordination of several economic and social agents. This was done trough an exploratory study of an exceptional case that brought gains to all the stakeholders, especially to society. This work highlights the barriers found, how they were overcome and extract evidences over which are the critical success factors, that are the following: high administration strategic vision and commitment, an adequate reverse logistics structure and a business structure that guarantees economic results and their adequate distribution.

O objetivo principal deste artigo é debater, a partir das experiências de alguns países bem-sucedidos na implementação de políticas industrial e tecnológica, se a construção de um moderno arcabouço institucional na área de desenvolvimento científico e tecnológico, no qual deve estar incluída a questão da inovação, é essencial para o crescimento econômico do País. Nesse esforço, buscamos aprofundar a discussão sobre as políticas de gestão da inovação no Brasil, em especial sobre a Lei de Inovação Tecnológica - LIT (Lei Federal n.º 10.973 de 02.12.2004 ) - que estabelece medidas de incentivo à inovação e à pesquisa científica e tecnológica no ambiente produtivo, com vistas à capacitação e ao alcance da autonomia tecnológica e ao desenvolvimento industrial do País, por meio da análise das principais medidas explicitadas em seu texto. Evidencia-se que a aprovação da Lei de Inovação Tecnológica, apesar de suas deficiências, representa um instrumento relevante de apoio às políticas industrial e tecnológica do Brasil.

The main objective of this article is to debate, from the experiences of some successful countries in industrial and technological implementation of politics, if the construction of an institutional modern system in the area of scientific and technological development, in which must be enclosed the question of innovation, is essential for the economic growth of the country. In this effort, we search to deepen the quarrel on the politics of management of innovation in Brazil, in special on the Law of Technological Innovation - LIT (Federal Law nº 10,973, 02.12.2004) - that establishes measurements of incentive to innovation and the scientific and technological research in the productive environment, with sights to the qualification and the reach of the technological autonomy and to the industrial development of the country through the analysis of the main measures defined in its text. It is an evidence that the approval of the innovation law, although its deficiencies, represents an excellent instrument of support to the industrial and technological politics of Brazil.
