Abstract Paper aims This paper aims to investigate which sustainability practices are being applied in port terminals in Brazil and to identify the driving forces and obstacles to the implementation of these practices. Originality The research contributes to fill gaps that still remain in the literature, such as the need to identify and analyze sustainability requirements in the port industry in a more tangible way, bringing new evidence to a better understanding of how the port industry perceives and addresses sustainability issues. Research method The paper presents an in-depth multiple case study in the five largest terminals in Brazil, which correspond to approximately 60% of the Brazilian handling of containers. Main findings The results present evidence of the evolution of the commitment to environmental preservation and the progressive dissemination of sustainability practices. The main difficulties are the high costs and lack of support from the port authority to encourage the implementation of some practices. Implications for theory and practice This study aimed to disclose sustainability practices adopted at container terminals in Brazil, as well as provide some content, both for academia and companies, that may assist in developing new research on this theme and implementing these practices in other organizations.

Abstract Paper aims This paper aims to identify the degree of interest and expected return time on investment in Internet of Things (IoT) and Big Data Analytics (BDA) technologies by Brazilian logistics companies. Originality A logistics system that meets the requirements imposed by Industry 4.0 is known as Logistics 4.0. According to the current scientific literature, IoT and BDA technologies are the most promising for the Logistics 4.0 applications. Studies on the adoption of these technologies in Brazil are still embryonic and this paper collaborates to narrow this knowledge gap. Research method Exploratory research was conducted using the quantitative approach. Main findings The evidence of the interest in investment in IoT and BDA by Brazilian logistics companies, confirming the current literature. Implications for theory and practice The identification of the intended practical applications for Iot and BDA, as well as the expected difficulties in the implementation of these Technologies.

Resumo Óleos essenciais com propriedades antimicrobianas são amplamente utilizados na indústria de alimentos. Neste estudo, objetivou-se avaliar a influência da mistura de óleos essenciais de alho (Allium sativum) e tomilho (Thymus vulgaris) nas propriedades antimicrobianas e mecânicas de filmes de zeína. Quatro bactérias (Escherichia coli enteropatogênica (EPEC), Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella Enteritidis e Staphylococcus aureus) relacionadas à contaminação de alimentos foram escolhidas para avaliar as propriedades antimicrobianas. Os resultados mostraram que a mistura de óleos atuou como um plastificante, como confirmado por uma diminuição na temperatura de transição vítrea e pelo Módulo de Young dos filmes. A adição de mistura de óleos também resultou em menor solubilidade e absorção de água. A mistura de óleo 0, 2%, 3% e 5% (v/v) adicionada nos filmes de zeína mostrou atividade inibitória contra todas as bactérias testadas com halos inibitórios entre 6,5 mm até 8,27 mm. Os resultados mostram que o revestimento pode ser aplicado como suporte para aumentar o prazo de validade de produtos alimentares.

Abstract Essential oils with antimicrobial properties are widely used in the food industry. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of a blend of garlic (Allium sativum) and thyme (Thymus vulgaris) essential oils on the antimicrobial and mechanical properties of zein films. Four bacteria (Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC), Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella Enteritidis and Staphylococcus aureus) related to food contamination were chosen to evaluate the antimicrobial properties. The results indicated that the oil blend acted as a plasticizer, decreasing the glass transition temperature and the Young’s Modulus of the films. The addition of the oil blend also resulted in lower solubility and water absorption. The addition of the oil blend (0, 2%, 3% and 5% (v/v)) to the zein films showed inhibitory activity against all the bacteria tested, with inhibitory halos of between 6.5 mm and 8.27 mm. The results showed that the coating could be applied as a support to increase the shelf life of food products.

Resumo O Porto de Santos, maior porto da América Latina, é a porta de entrada e saída de grande parte das mercadorias que circulam pelo Brasil. Atualmente, com o crescimento econômico de que desfruta o País o porto passa por obras de expansão de sua capacidade, com planos até o ano de 2024. Nos anos de 2012 e 2013, as dificuldades de acesso ao Porto de Santos tiveram amplo destaque na imprensa. Uma visão holística desse cenário e das diversas causas das dificuldades de acesso ao porto pode contribuir para o melhor entendimento do problema e de suas possíveis soluções. Este trabalho tem como objetivo principal investigar quais as causas das dificuldades de acesso ao Porto de Santos e, como objetivo secundário, identificar quais as ações em andamento e quais os projetos previstos para adequar esses acessos à expansão da capacidade de movimentação do porto. Para tanto, foram analisados dados secundários obtidos no site da CODESP, órgão gestor do porto, e conduzidas observações in loco e entrevistas com executivos de alguns dos principais players atuantes no porto. Os dados obtidos permitiram identificar quatro grupos de problemas, decorrentes não somente de causas estruturais, mas também da falta de eficiência nos processos portuários. A classificação apresentada contribui para facilitar o entendimento do problema por parte dos gestores desses processos e, representa a base inicial para construção de um modelo teórico para o desenvolvimento de novas pesquisas sobre o tema.

Abstract The port of Santos - the biggest in Latin America - is the main inbound and outbound gateway to the movement of merchandise in Brazil. Nowadays, due to the Brazilian economic growth, the port of Santos is expanding its capacity, with plans until 2024. In 2012 and 2013, the difficulties of access to the port of Santos were amply highlighted by the press. A holistic view of this scenario and the various causes of the difficulties of access to the port can contribute to a better understanding of the problem and its possible solutions. This paper investigates the causes of the problems related to the accesses to the port of Santos; the ongoing actions; and the foresight projects to adequate these accesses to the expansion of flow capacity. To this end, secondary data obtained from CODESP - the port management office, on-site observations, and interviews with business managers of some of the port main companies were used. The data collected allowed the identification of four groups of problems arising not only from structural causes, but also from the lack of efficiency in the port processes. The classification presented contributes to facilitate the understanding of the problem by the managers of these processes and represents the initial basis for building a theoretical model for the development of new research on the subject.

O presente trabalho tem por objetivo principal identificar quais são os métodos de cotação e negociação de preços predominantes na cadeia de suprimentos de autopeças brasileira. Ainda dentro do escopo do trabalho, buscou-se determinar como as características dos métodos de cotação e negociação de preços utilizados na cadeia de suprimentos de autopeças brasileira afetam os custos de transação. O interesse recaiu sobre a cadeia de suprimentos de autopeças do Brasil devido à sua complexidade, atualização tecnológica e crescimento acentuado nos últimos anos. Para alcançar os objetivos foi executada pesquisa tipo survey, com questionário enviado aos gestores da área de supply chain das 100 maiores empresas fabricantes de autopeças. Das respostas obtidas concluiu-se que as maiores empresas da cadeia de suprimentos de autopeças em termos de faturamento, com capital multinacional, empregam uma gama mais variada e estruturada de métodos de cotação e negociação de preços para aquisição de materiais diretos. Por outro lado as empresas de capital nacional empregam majoritariamente métodos mais simples de cotação e negociação de preço. O trabalho apresenta também, com base nas características principais dos métodos de cotação e negociação identificados, a percepção dos gestores de supply chain das empresas pesquisadas acerca da influência dessas características nos custos de transação.

This paper aims to identify the main methods of pricing and negotiation in the Brazilian auto parts supply chain and to determine how the characteristics of these methods affect transaction costs. The Brazilian auto parts supply chain was studied due to its complexity, technological upgrading, and growth in the recent years. To achieve these objectives, a survey was carried out and a questionnaire was sent to the supply chain managers of the 100 largest auto parts manufacturers. Based on the responses obtained, it was concluded that the largest multinational companies in the auto parts supply chain in terms of revenue use a wider range and more structured pricing and negotiation methods for the purchase of direct materials. On the other hand, domestic companies use mainly the simpler pricing and negotiation methods. The present study also presents, based on the characteristics of the major methods identified, the supply chain managers view about the influence of these characteristics on transaction costs.

A logística reversa ganha importância cada vez maior tanto no meio acadêmico quanto entre os profissionais de supply chain, não só por ser um dos instrumentos para a prática da sustentabilidade, como também por seu papel estratégico em muitos segmentos econômicos. Diversos trabalhos mostram como uma logística reversa eficiente pode diminuir custos e propiciar vantagem competitiva às empresas. Da mesma forma, o comércio eletrônico vem apresentando crescimento expressivo em muitos países e, por sua própria natureza apresenta taxas de retorno muito maiores que o comércio tradicional. Contudo, apesar da importância da operação de logística reversa para o comércio eletrônico, não se encontram trabalhos que explorem esse tema na literatura. O objetivo deste trabalho é descrever o processo de logística reversa do maior varejista virtual do mercado brasileiro, mostrando sua evolução, analisando seu desempenho e identificando suas principais deficiências. Conclui-se com a apresentação de sugestões para melhorias e implantação de um sistema mais eficiente.

Reverse logistics has gained increasing importance among researchers and supply chain professionals not only for being one of the tools for sustainability, but also for its strategic role in many economic sectors. Several studies have shown how an efficient reverse logistics can reduce costs and provide competitive advantage to companies. Likewise, there has been a significant growth of electronic commerce in many countries, which has much higher return rates than those of traditional trade. Nevertheless, despite the importance of reverse logistics in electronic commerce, there are no studies addressing this topic in the literature. The aim of this paper is to describe the reverse logistics process of the largest online retailer in the Brazilian market by showing its development, analyzing its performance, and identifying its major deficiencies. Some suggestions for the improvement and implementation of a more efficient system are made

O processo de globalização e a revolução digital têm trazido novos desafios de competitividade às empresas. Uma dessas novas necessidades é a mudança do foco do escopo gerencial para toda a cadeia de suprimentos. Gerenciar uma cadeia de suprimentos requer, entre outros aspectos, a integração dos "processos-chave" de negócios ao longo dessa cadeia. Nesse sentido, este trabalho teve como objetivo identificar como é a relação entre a integração de processos ao longo da cadeia de suprimentos e o desempenho no serviço prestado ao cliente (customer service). Para tanto, a abordagem exploratória foi utilizada, tendo como objeto de estudo uma cadeia de suprimentos calçadista localizada na cidade de Franca, a qual se constitui em um bom exemplo de cadeia consolidada e já inserida no mercado internacional. Os resultados obtidos permitem concluir que o desempenho do serviço ao cliente na cadeia estudada está relacionado diretamente com a integração dos processos de atendimento de pedidos, gestão da demanda e desenvolvimento de produtos ao longo da cadeia, envolvendo não apenas a integração com clientes, mas também com os fornecedores-chave. Pode-se constatar ainda que esse desempenho está relacionado também com a existência de competências internas nos processos considerados, nas empresas estudadas.

The globalization process and the digital revolution have brought new challenges for the companies' competitiveness. One of these new requirements is the change of the managerial scope of the entire supply chain. The management of a supply chain requires, among other aspects, integrating key-business processes along the chain. In this sense, this work has the main purpose of identifying the relationship between processes integration along the supply chain and its customer service performance. In order to achieve this aim, an exploratory research was conducted, focusing on a footwear supply chain located in the city of Franca, state of São Paulo, Brazil, which constitutes itself a good example of a consolidate supply chain already inserted in the international footwear market. The results obtained enable to conclude that the performance of the customer service in the studied footwear supply chain is directly related to the integration of order fulfillment processes, demand management, and product development processes involving not only the integration of shoe manufacturers with customers, but also with key suppliers. It still can be pointed out that this performance is also related to the existence of internal competences in the processes considered in the studied companies.
