Resumo Introdução: O exercício físico pode melhorar as habilidades motoras, como o equilíbrio estático na posição ortostática; no entanto, a associação do nível de atividade física durante as atividades de vida diária e o equilíbrio estático não é conhecida. Objetivo: Avaliar a associação entre o nível de atividade física e o equilíbrio estático em mulheres de meia-idade e idosas. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo transversal com 589 mulheres residentes na comunidade. O equilíbrio estático foi avaliado usando o teste de equilíbrio unipodal com os olhos abertos e fechados. O nível de atividade física foi avaliado usando o Questionário Internacional de Atividade Física - versão curta e classificado em alto, moderado e baixo. O teste de Kruskall Wallis comparou o desempenho no teste de equilíbrio unipodal de participantes com diferentes níveis de atividade física. Modelos de regressão quantílica avaliaram a associação entre as variáveis ajustada pelas covariáveis idade, renda familiar, escolaridade, índice de massa corporal, condições crônicas e paridade. Resultados: Na análise bivariada, as mulheres com baixo nível de atividade física mantiveram o equilíbrio em pé com os olhos abertos e fechados por um tempo menor do que aquelas classificadas como alto nível de atividade física. No entanto a associação entre nível de atividade física e performance no teste de equilíbrio estático não foi significativa na análise ajustada para as covariáveis. Conclusão: Os resultados sugerem que apenas ser ativa nas atividades de vida diária não está associado a um melhor equilíbrio em mulheres de meia-idade e idosas. Programas específicos de exercício físico devem ser implementados visando um melhor desempenho do equilíbrio nesta população.

Abstract Introduction: Physical exercise may improve motor skills, such as static standing balance. However, the association between physical activity level based on activities of daily living and static balance is unknown. Objective: To assess the association between the physical activity level and static balance in middle-aged and older women. Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 589 community-dwelling women. Static balance was assessed using the single-leg stance test (SLST) with eyes open and closed. Physical activity level was assessed using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short Form and classified as high, moderate, or low. Kruskal-Wallis test compared balance performance between participants with different physical activity levels. Multiple quantile regression analyses assessed the association between variables adjusted for age, family income, educational level, body mass index, comorbidities, and parity. Results: Participants with low physical activity level showed worse SLST performance with eyes open and closed than participants with high physical activity level in the bivariate analysis. However, physical activity level and SLST performance were not associated in the analysis adjusted for covariates. Conclusion: Our results suggested that only being active in daily living activities is not associated with better standing balance in middle-aged and older women. Specific physical exercise programs should be implemented to improve balance in this population.

OBJETIVO: Describir la prevalencia de violencia doméstica en hombres y mujeres mayores de Natal, Brasil y Manizales, Colombia y explorar si las diferencias de género se deben a diferencias en condiciones sociales y económicas a lo largo de la vida. MÉTODOS: Estudio transversal con muestra aleatoria de 802 hombres y mujeres del Estudio IMIAS (International Mobility in Aging Study) (65-74 años) desarrollado en Natal y Manizales. La violencia perpetrada, durante los últimos seis meses y alguna vez en la vida, fue evaluada por la escala HITS. La regresión de Poisson fue utilizada para estimar las razones de prevalencia de violencia de las mujeres respecto a los hombres. RESULTADOS: La experiencia de violencia física ocurrida alguna vez en la vida varió entre 2,2 y 18,3% según la ciudad y el sexo. La violencia psicológica fue más elevada en mujeres, siendo la violencia perpetrada por el compañero de 25,7% en Natal y 19,4% en Manizales; y por la familia de 18,3% en Manizales y 10% en Natal. Casi la mitad de los participantes informaron haber sufrido violencia psicológica alguna vez en la vida. La violencia actual o alguna vez en la vida fue más frecuente en las mujeres, incluso tras ajustes por covariables, presentando razones de prevalencia entre 1,60 y 2,14. CONCLUSIONES: Las tasas de prevalencia de violencia doméstica en los adultos mayores revelan que las mujeres son más afectadas, por lo cual deben ser consideradas como prioridad en las políticas de prevención de la agenda de salud para Latinoamérica.

OBJECTIVE: Describe the prevalence of domestic violence in older men and women in Natal, Brazil, and Manizales, Colombia and explore whether the differences by gender are due to lifetime differences in social and financial status. METHODS: Cross-sectional study with a random sampling of 802 men and women in the IMIAS Study (International Mobility in Aging Study) (65-74 years old) conducted in Natal (Brazil) and Manizales (Colombia). Incidents that occurred in the last six months and any time during their lives were evaluated using the HITS scale. Poisson regression was used to estimate the reasons for the prevalence of violence against women by men. RESULTS: Experience of physical violence occurring any time in life ranged from 2.2% to 18.3%, depending on the city and the sex. Psychological violence was higher in women: violence perpetrated by partners affected 25.7% of women in Natal and 19.4% in Manizales; and by the family, 18.3% in Manizales and 10% in Natal. Almost half of the participants reported suffering psychological violence at some time during their life. Experience of current violence or at some time during life was most frequent in women, even after adjustment for co-variables, with prevalence ratios of 1.60 to 2.14. CONCLUSIONS: The rates of prevalence of domestic violence in older adults show that women are more affected, which means that they should be considered a priority in the prevention policies on Latin America's health agenda.

A Vigilância em Saúde do Trabalhador (Visat) compõe um conjunto de práticas legalmente inscritas no Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS) e recomendadas pelas diretrizes políticas que tratam das relações saúde-trabalho no Brasil. Entretanto, a Visat ainda é inusual e, quando existe, depende de atitudes voluntaristas de alguns profissionais no nível dos serviços. Afora a omissão gerencial do sistema de saúde para a sua implementação, uma das razões para que isso ocorra é a falta de capacitação técnica de agentes públicos para efetuá-la. O artigo trata de uma proposta metodológica para a capacitação em Vigilância em Saúde do Trabalhador, a partir de experiências desenvolvidas há alguns anos, no campo de ensino em serviço. Para isso, são discutidas as bases teórico-conceituais que norteiam a construção do campo da saúde do trabalhador e a pedagogia problematizadora utilizada no processo de educação permanente do SUS.

Surveillance in Occupational Health (Visat) comprises a set of practices legally entered in the National Health System (SUS) and recommended by the policy guidelines that address the health-work relations in Brazil. However, the Visat is still uncommon and, when available, depends on proactive attitudes of some professionals at the service level. Aside from the failure of the management of the health system to implement Visat, another reason it is not implemented is the lack of technical capacity of public officials. The article presents a methodological proposal for the training of Surveillance in Occupational Health using experiences developed some years ago in the field of education in services. We discuss the theoretical and conceptual foundations that guide the development of the field of occupational health and the problem-based pedagogy used in the process of continuous education of the SUS.

O objetivo deste estudo foi comparar a atividade eletromiográfica (EMG) dos músculos reto femoral, bíceps femoral, tibial anterior e sóleo no agachamento, associando a posição de tronco ereto com 2 ângulos de flexão do joelho (40° e 60°) e a posição de tronco fletido a 45° com 3 ângulos de flexão do joelho (40°, 60° e 90°). Todas as combinações foram realizadas com e sem acréscimo de carga (10kg). A amostra foi composta por 12 indivíduos saudáveis com idade de 21,1 ± 2,5 anos e massa corporal de 62,8 ± 7,4kg. O EMG dos músculos citados foi registrado, isometricamente, em 10 posições de agachamento. Para a análise estatística foi aplicada ANOVA Two-Way de Friedman e o teste Post-Hoc de Newman-Keuls. Os resultados mostraram co-ativação entre os músculos reto femoral e bíceps femoral nas posições de tronco fletido e joelho em flexão de 40º e, entre os músculos reto femoral e sóleo, nas demais posições (p < 0,05). Houve co-ativação entre o tibial anterior e bíceps femoral com o joelho a 40º, com o tronco ereto e fletido e, entre o tibial anterior e sóleo, nas demais posições (p < 0,05). Quanto à ativação muscular isolada, a maior flexão do joelho no agachamento foi um fator determinante para maior ativação dos músculos, exceto para o sóleo. A posição do tronco e a carga adicional de 10kg influenciaram a ativação muscular do reto femoral, a 60° de flexão de joelho, na qual o tronco ereto proporcionou maior ativação. E para o bíceps femoral, a 40° de flexão de joelho, na qual o tronco flexionado proporcionou maior ativação. A co-ativação entre o reto femoral e o bíceps femoral na posição de tronco fletido, e entre o reto femoral e o sóleo nas demais posições, apontam para novas possibilidades de exercícios na reabilitação.

The aim of this study was to compare the electromyographic (EMG) activity of the femoris rectus, femoris biceps, tibialis anterior and soleus muscles in squatting, associating the trunk in erect position with two angles of knee flexion (40° and 60°) and the trunk at 45° flexion with three angles of knee flexion (40°, 60° and 90°). All associations were performed with and without additional load (10 kg). The sample was composed of 12 healthy individuals with mean age of 21.1 ± 2.5 years and weight of 62.8 ± 7.4 kg. The EMG of the cited muscles was isometrically registered in 10 squatting positions. For statistical analysis, Friedman Two-Way ANOVA and the Newman-Keuls Post-Hoc test were used. The results showed co-activation between the femoris rectus and femoris biceps muscles with the trunk in flexion and at 40° of knee flexion and between the femoris rectus and soleus muscles in the other positions considered (p < 0.05). It was also possible to observe co-activation between tibialis anterior and femoris biceps muscles with knee at 40° and 60° of flexion, with the trunk erect and in flexion and between the tibialis anterior and soleus muscles in the other positions (p < 0.05). Concerning isolated muscular activation, higher knee flexion in squatting was an important factor to greater muscles activation, except for the soleus. Trunk position and the additional load of 10 kg have influenced in the muscular activation of the femoris rectus at 60° of knee flexion, in which the erect trunk provided more activation. The femoris biceps presented greater activation when the knee was in 40° of flexion and the trunk flexioned. The co-activation between the femoris rectus and biceps with the trunk in flexion, and between the femoris rectus and soleus in the other positions, lead to new possibilities of exercises in rehabilitation.
