ABSTRACT Introduction: Oral cancer continues to be one of the malignant neoplasms on the rise, according to its incidence and the significant number of deaths each year. In this sense, health programs have been developed for the population that guarantee screening, prevention and care of the diseases. Objective: To characterize patients with oral cancer at the María Curie Oncological Teaching Provincial Hospital in Camagüey province during the period 2018-2022. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out in the María Curie Oncological Teaching Provincial Hospital of Camagüey province in a universe of 218 patients, who attended the Head and Neck Surgery Service from 2018 to 2022 and had oral cancer as diagnosis. The sample was limited to 113 patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: Oral cancer predominated in the male sex with 89 (78.76%) in the years 2019 and 2021. There was a higher incidence in patients with white skin with 97 (85.84%) and the year 2021 showed a higher number of these patients. The tongue was the most affected with 43 (30.05%) patients, followed by the floor of the mouth in 18 (15.92%) and the gums in 17 (15.04%) patients. According to stage there was a predominance of stage IV in 61 (53.98%) patients, followed by stage III with 18.58% of patients diagnosed. Conclusions: Male sex prevailed in the 60 to 79 years age group and white skin patients were the most affected. The location of the lesions manifested with greater incidence on the tongue and stages IV and III of the disease are the most representative at the time of diagnosis.

RESUMEN Introducción: El cáncer bucal continúa siendo una de las neoplasias malignas en ascenso, de acuerdo con su incidencia y el importante número de muertes cada año. En este sentido, se han desarrollado programas de salud para la población que garantizan la pesquisa, la prevención y la atención de las enfermedades. Objetivo: Caracterizar a los pacientes con cáncer bucal en el Hospital Provincial Docente Oncológico María Curie de la provincia Camagüey durante el período 2018-2022. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo transversal en el Hospital Provincial Docente Oncológico María Curie de la provincia Camagüey en un universo de 218 pacientes, que acudieron al Servicio de Cirugía de Cabeza y Cuello del año 2018 al 2022 y tuvieron como diagnóstico cáncer bucal. La muestra se delimitó a 113 pacientes que cumplieron con los criterios de inclusión y exclusión. Resultados: El cáncer bucal predominó en el sexo masculino con 89 (78,76 %) en los años 2019 y 2021. Hubo mayor frecuencia en pacientes de piel blanca con 97 (85,84 %) y el año 2021 mostró mayor número de estos enfermos. La lengua fue la más afectada con 43 (30,05 %) pacientes, seguida por el suelo de boca en 18 (15,92 %) y las encías en 17 (15,04 %) pacientes. Según el estadio existió un predominio del IV en 61 (53,98 %) enfermos, seguido por el III con un 18,58 % de pacientes diagnosticados. Conclusiones: Prevaleció del sexo masculino en el grupo de 60 a 79 años y los pacientes de piel blanca fueron los más afectados. La localización de las lesiones se manifestó con mayor incidencia en la lengua y los estadios IV y III de la enfermedad son los más representativos en el momento del diagnóstico.

Resumen: Introducción: En Uruguay el cáncer de mama (CM) ocupa el primer lugar en incidencia y mortalidad por cáncer en la mujer, se trata de una enfermedad multifactorial que guarda relación con la herencia genética, historial hormonal estrogénico, estilo de vida, factores ambientales y culturales. Objetivos: investigar las características clínico-patológicas de pacientes con CM diagnosticadas en el Hospital de Clínicas y evaluar la sobrevida global total (SVG) y de acuerdo al subtipo biológico. Metodología: se recolectaron datos relacionados con las características clínico-patológicas y la evolución de pacientes tratadas por CM en el período comprendido entre el 1º de enero del 2011 y 31 de diciembre de 2020 asistidas en la Unidad de Mastología del Hospital de Clínicas. Se calculó la SVG para todas las pacientes, globalmente, y según el subtipo biológico. Resultados: se incluyeron 390 pacientes. Las características clínico-patológicas fueron: carcinoma ductal: 83%, estadio: in situ (1.8 %), I (27.7 %), II (29.7 %), III (23.6%), IV (12.6 %). Con respecto al perfil biológico: 235 tumores (60.3%) fueron RRHH+ HER 2−, 88 tumores (22.6%) fueron HER2 +, mientras que otros 41 tumores (10.5%) fueron clasificados como triple negativos (TN). La SVG para la totalidad de las pacientes tuvo una mediana de 92 meses. Las tasas de SVG a 2 y 5 años fueron para las luminales de 92% y 64%; en las TN la tasa de SVG a 24 meses fue de 69%, siendo a 5 años de 53.3% y en las HER2 + 76.6% y 67.3% respectivamente. Conclusiones: La mayoría de los tumores fueron diagnosticados en estadios precoces, siendo estos datos son concordantes con los reportados en estudios realizados a nivel nacional. La frecuencia de tumores RE/RP+ algo inferior a la reportada en estudios previos (70%) a nivel nacional, mientras que la de tumores HER 2 + TN fue similar a la reportada en estudios europeos, norteamericanos y en Latinoamérica donde se la prevalencia encontrada es del 20%

Abstract: Introduction: In Uruguay, breast cancer (BC) ranks first in incidence and mortality from cancer in women. It is a multifactorial disease that is related to genetic inheritance, estrogenic hormonal history, lifestyle, environmental and cultural factors. Objectives: to investigate the clinicopathological characteristics of patients with BC diagnosed at the Hospital de Clínicas and to evaluate the overall overall survival (SVG) and according to the biological subtype. Metodology: data related to the clinicopathological characteristics and the evolution of patients treated for BC in the period between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2020 assisted in the Mastology Unit of the Hospital de Clínicas were collected. Overall survival (SVG) was calculated for all patients, globally, and according to biological subtype. Results: 390 patients were included. Regarding the biological profile: 235 tumors (60.3%) were HR+ HER 2−, 88 tumors (22.6%) were HER2 +, while another 41 tumors (10.5%) were classified as triple negative (TN). The SVG for all the patients had a median of 92 months. SVG rates at 2 and 5 years were 92% and 64% for luminals; in TN the 24-month survival rate was 69%, being 53.3% at 5 years and in HER2 + 76.6% and 67.3% respectively. Conclusions: Most of the tumors were diagnosed in early stages, these data being consistent with those reported in studies carried out at the national level. The frequency of ER/RP+ tumors was somewhat lower than that reported in previous studies (70%) at the national level, while that of HER 2 + TN tumors was similar to that reported in European, North American and Latin American studies where the prevalence found is 20%

Resumo: Introdução: No Uruguai, o câncer de mama (CM) ocupa o primeiro lugar em incidência e mortalidade por câncer em mulheres. É uma doença multifatorial que está relacionada à herança genética, história hormonal estrogênica, estilo de vida, fatores ambientais e culturais. Objetivos: investigar as características clinicopatológicas dos pacientes com CM diagnosticados no Hospital de Clínicas e avaliar a sobrevida global (OSV) e segundo o subtipo biológico. Material e método: foram coletados dados referentes às características clínico-patológicas e à evolução dos pacientes atendidos por CM no período de 1º de janeiro de 2011 a 31 de dezembro de 2020 atendidos na Unidade de Mastologia do Hospital de Clínicas. A sobrevida global (SVG) foi calculada para todos os pacientes, globalmente e de acordo com o subtipo biológico. Resultados: 390 pacientes foram incluídos. As características clínico-patológicas foram: carcinoma ductal: 83%, estádio: in situ (1,8%), I (27,7%), II (29,7%), III (23,6%), IV (12,6%). Quanto ao perfil biológico: 235 tumores (60,3%) eram HR+ HER 2−, 88 tumores (22,6%) eram HER2+, enquanto outros 41 tumores (10,5%) foram classificados como triplo negativo (TN). O SVG para todos os pacientes teve uma mediana de 92 meses. As taxas de SVG aos 2 e 5 anos foram de 92% e 64% para luminais; em TN a sobrevida em 24 meses foi de 69%, sendo 53,3% em 5 anos e em HER2 + 76,6% e 67,3%, respectivamente. Conclusões: A maioria dos tumores foi diagnosticada em estágios iniciais, sendo esses dados consistentes com os relatados em estudos realizados em nível nacional. A frequência de tumores ER/RP+ foi um pouco menor do que a relatada em estudos anteriores (70%) em nível nacional, enquanto a de tumores HER 2 + TN foi semelhante à relatada em estudos europeus, norte-americanos e latino-americanos, onde a prevalência encontrado é 20%

Abstract Introduction: The presence and structure of vegetation in urban areas have an impact on the composition of bird communities. Green areas with a higher ratio of introduced vegetation tend to have a greater homogenization of avifauna, whereas green areas with a high ratio of native vegetation have a greater diversity of birds. In several studies carried out in urban areas of Mexico, the factors of vegetation are not considered. Therefore, the responses of the species to vegetation types in terms of richness and diversity are unknown. Objective: To analyze the composition of bird species in the green areas of Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, and evaluate the response of bird communities in areas with differences in vegetation composition. As well as to analyze the relationship between the trophic guilds in birds and vegetation in urban areas. Methods: Three sampling sites were established in Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, Mexico, based on two criteria: similar sampling area (ha) and differences in vegetation characteristics. Monitoring took place between January and December 2020, with three monthly visits in each site for a total of 108 visits, using the direct visual method. Results: We identified 98 species (11 orders, 28 families). The most abundant species were Quiscalus mexicanus and Molothrus aeneus. Differences in species richness were found for each site. The insectivorous and granivorous were the dominant guilds. An association between the guilds and the study sites was determined, where most were linked to mixed native vegetation, compared to homogeneous or introduced vegetation. Conclusions: The urban areas studied maintained a notable number of birds, and several of them presented some category of risk or endemism. This demonstrates the importance of these green areas composed of native vegetation as a refuge for birds and highlights the need to conserve and protect these areas within Ciudad Victoria and similar cities.

Resumen Introducción: La presencia y estructura de la vegetación en áreas urbanas tiene un impacto en la composición de las comunidades de aves. Las áreas verdes con una mayor proporción de vegetación introducida tienden a presentar una homogeneización de avifauna, mientras que las áreas verdes con alta proporción de vegetación nativa presentan mayor diversidad de aves. En varios trabajos realizados en áreas urbanas de México, estos factores no son tomados en cuenta. Por lo tanto, se desconocen las respuestas de las especies en términos de riqueza y diversidad. Objetivo: Analizar la composición de especies de aves en las áreas verdes de Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas y evaluar la respuesta de las comunidades de aves en tres áreas verdes con diferente composición de vegetación. Así como analizar la relación entre los gremios tróficos de aves con los elementos de la vegetación en las áreas urbanas. Métodos: El estudio se llevó a cabo en tres sitios de muestreo de Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, México, con base en dos criterios: área similar de muestreo (ha) y diferencias en las características de la vegetación. Los monitoreos se realizaron de enero a diciembre de 2020, con tres visitas mensuales en cada sitio para un total de 108 visitas, utilizando el método visual directo. Resultados: Identificamos 98 especies (11 órdenes, 28 familias). Las especies más abundantes fueron Quiscalus mexicanus y Molothrus aeneus. Hubo diferencias en la riqueza de especies para cada sitio. Las insectívoras y granívoras fueron las dominantes. Se determinó una asociación entre los gremios y los sitios de estudio, donde la mayoría están relacionados con la vegetación mixta, comparado con la vegetación homogénea o introducida. Conclusiones: Las áreas urbanas estudiadas mantuvieron un número notable de aves, y varias de ellas presentaron alguna categoría de riesgo o endemismo. Esto demuestra la importancia de estas áreas verdes como refugio de aves y resalta la necesidad de conservar y proteger dichas áreas dentro de Ciudad Victoria y ciudades similares.

Resumen Introducción: el progreso en los tratamientos para el lupus eritematoso sistémico (LES) resultó en una disminución de la mortalidad; sin embargo, la enfermedad cardiovascular y las complicaciones infecciosas aún son las principales causas de muerte. La evidencia apoya la participación del sistema inmunológico en la generación de la placa aterosclerótica, así como su conexión con las enfermedades autoinmunes. Objetivos: describir la frecuencia de eventos cardiovasculares (ECV) en el Registro de Lupus Eritematoso Sistémico de la Sociedad Argentina de Reumatología (RELESSAR) transversal, así como sus principales factores de riesgo asociados. Materiales y métodos: estudio descriptivo y transversal para el cual se tomaron los pacientes ingresados en el registro RELESSAR transversal. Se describieron las variables sociodemográficas y clínicas, las comorbilidades, score de actividad y daño. ECV se definió como la presencia de al menos una de las siguientes patologías: enfermedad arterial periférica, cardiopatía isquémica o accidente cerebrovascular. El evento clasificado para el análisis fue aquel posterior al diagnóstico del LES. Se conformaron dos grupos macheados por edad y sexo 1:2. Resultados: 1515 pacientes mayores de 18 años participaron del registro. Se describieron 80 pacientes con ECV (5,3%). En este análisis se incluyeron 240 pacientes conformando dos grupos. La edad media fue de 47,8 (14,4) y 47,6 (14,2) en el grupo con y sin ECV respectivamente. Los pacientes con ECV tuvieron mayor duración del LES en meses, mayor índice de Charlson, mayor SLICC (Systemic Lupus International Collaborating Clinics/American College of Rheumatology), mayor frecuencia de manifestaciones neurológicas, síndrome antifosfolípido, hospitalizaciones y uso de ciclofosfamida. Las únicas variables asociadas en el análisis multivariado fueron el índice de Charlson (p=0,004) y el SLICC (p<0,001). Conclusiones: los ECV influyen significativamente en nuestros pacientes, y se asocian a mayor posibilidad de daño irreversible y comorbilidades.

Abstract Introduction: progress in treatments for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) has resulted in a decrease in mortality; however, cardiovascular and infectious diseases remain the leading causes of death. Evidence supports the involvement of the immune system in the generation of atherosclerotic plaque, as well as its connection to autoimmune diseases. Objectives: to describe the frequency of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in the cross-sectional RELESSAR registry, as well as its associated variables. Materials and methods: a descriptive and cross-sectional study was performed using patients admitted to the cross-sectional RELESSAR registry. Sociodemographic variables, clinical variables, comorbidities, activity and damage scores were described. CVD was defined as at least one of the following: peripheral arterial disease, ischemic heart disease, or cerebrovascular accident. All patients with at least one CVD were included in our analysis (heart attack, central nervous system vascular disease, and peripheral arteries atherosclerotic disease). The event classified for the analysis was that after the diagnosis of SLE. SLE diagnosis was previous to CVD. Two groups matched by age and sex, 1:2 were formed. Results: a total of 1515 patients older than 18 years participated in the registry. Eighty patients with CVD (5.3%) were described in the registry. Two-hundred and forty patients were included, according to two groups. The mean age was 47.8 (SD 14.4) and 47.6 (SD 14.2) in patients with and without CVD, respectively. Patients with CVD had a longer duration of SLE in months, a higher Charlson index, a higher SLICC, increased frequency of neurological manifestations, antiphospholipid syndrome, hospitalizations, and use of cyclophosphamide. The associated variables in the multivariate were the Charlson Index (p=0.004) and the SLICC (p<0.001). Conclusions: CVDs have a significant influence on our patients, being associated with a greater possibility of damage and comorbidities.

Resumen El objetivo del estudio fue caracterizar a los árboles y brotes del género Pinus por tipo de severidad de incendio en el Parque Nacional Cumbres de Monterrey. La severidad de incendio se determinó a partir de la diferencia del Coeficiente Normalizado de Quemas. Se establecieron 60 sitios circulares de muestreo de 400 m2, en ellos se midió el diámetro y altura tanto de los árboles como de los brotes. Se identificaron dos tipos de condición del arbolado: (1) Vivos quemados y (2) Carbonizados, estos últimos obtuvieron la cantidad superior de individuos con brote. La severidad moderada alta registró más árboles con brote (488 individuos ha-1). Del total de individuos muestreados, 83 % correspondieron a la especie Pinus teocote y 17 % a Pinus pseudostrobus. En los árboles que presentaron brotes, la cantidad de estos por individuo se registró en mayor proporción en el nivel bajo de uno a dos brotes en las tres severidades. La severidad baja correspondió a 864 brotes ha-1, la moderada-baja de 626 brotes ha-1 y 994 brotes ha-1 en moderada-alta. A medida que la categoría diamétrica aumenta, la probabilidad de aparición de brote disminuye, de igual manera ocurre para la altura. La capacidad de brotar podría significar, potencialmente, la diferencia entre la dominancia en un área de los pinos frente a otras especies después de una perturbación.

Abstract The objective of the study was to characterize the trees and shoots of the genus Pinus by type of fire severity in Cumbres de Monterrey National Park. The fire severity was determined based on the difference in the Normalized Burn Coefficient. 60 circular sampling sites of 400 m2 were established to measure the diameter and height of both trees and shoots. Two types of tree conditions were identified: (1) Living burnt and (2) Charred; the latter comprised the highest number of individuals with shoots. Moderate-high severity recorded more trees with shoots (488 individuals ha-1). Of the total number of individuals sampled, 83 % corresponded to the species Pinus teocote, and 17 % to Pinus pseudostrobus. In the trees that exhibited shoots, the number of shoots per individual was recorded, in a larger quantity, in the low level of one to two shoots in the three severities. Low-severity corresponded to 864 shoots ha-1, moderate-low to 626 shoots ha-1, and moderate-high, to 994 shoots ha-1. As the diameter category increases, the probability of shoot occurrence decreases, as does the height. The ability to sprout could potentially determine the difference between the dominance in an area of pines versus other species after a disturbance.

Abstract Introduction : Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) is a well-known, although underestimated, cause of stroke in childhood. Its diagnosis requires a high index of suspicion, a correct interpretation of neuroim aging studies and an interrelation between clinicians and radiologists. The clinical features, risk factors and neuroimaging of children under 15 years of age with CVST were analyzed. Methods : multicenter, retrospective, descriptive, study of a consecutive series of cases of children under 15 years of age, who were admitted due to CVST between January 1st, 2010, and March 1st, 2022. Results : The study included 51 patients: 39% with acute symptoms and 59% with subacute symptoms. Newborns predominantly presented encephalopathic symptoms and seizures, while children exhibited signs of intracranial hypertension (ICH). Risk factors were 96 identified in 90% of the cases. Magnetic resonance with angiography in venous time confirmed the diagnosis in 80% of the patients, with the straight sinus being the most affected in newborns and the lateral sinus in chil dren. Hemorrhagic complications were found in 30.5%, being more frequent in newborns. Anticoagulation was initiated in 82% without complications. Sequelae were present in 44.4% of newborns and 37.9% of children, being more frequent and severe in newborns. Conclusions : To make an early diagnosis, it is essen tial to consider CVST in newborns with encephalopathic symptoms and/or seizures, and in children with signs of ICH in the presence of predisposing or triggering conditions.

Resumen Introducción : La trombosis de venas y senos venosos cerebrales (TVSC) constituye una causa conocida, aun que subestimada de ictus en la infancia. Su diagnóstico requiere un alto índice de sospecha, una correcta in terpretación de la neuroimagen e interrelación entre el clínico y el radiólogo. Objetivo : Analizar las manifestaciones clínicas, fac tores de riesgo y neuroimagen de recién nacidos (RN) y niños menores de 15 años con TVSC. Métodos: Estudio descriptivo, retrospectivo, multi céntrico, de una serie consecutiva de casos de menores de 15 años que ingresaron por TVSC entre el 1 de enero del 2010 y el 1 de marzo de 2022. Resultados : El estudio incluyó 51 pacientes: 39% con síntomas agudos y 59% subagudos. En los RN predomi naron síntomas encefalopáticos y convulsiones, mien tras en los niños elementos de hipertensión endocranea na (HTEC). Se identificaron factores de riesgo en el 90% de los casos. La resonancia magnética con angiografía en tiempo venoso confirmó el diagnóstico en el 80%, siendo el seno recto el más afectado en RN y el seno lateral en niños. Se encontraron complicaciones hemorrágicas en 30.5%, siendo más frecuentes en los RN. Se inició anti coagulación en el 82% sin complicaciones. Las secuelas estuvieron presentes en 44.4% de RN y 37.9% de niños, siendo más frecuentes y graves en los RN. Conclusiones : Para realizar un diagnóstico precoz es fundamental pensar en TVSC en RN con síntomas en cefalopáticos y/o convulsiones y en mayores con clínica de HTEC en presencia de enfermedades predisponentes o desencadenantes.

ABSTRACT Sweet syndrome is a rare type of neutrophilic dermatosis, characterized by an acute febrile picture with the appearance of painful erythematous papules and plaques on the skin, with accompanying peripheral neutrophilia, which improves with the use of corticosteroids. The case of a 22-year-old patient, with vitiligo as the underlying disease, is presented. She attended for a 1-week history of ungraded feverish sensation and insidious appearance of lesions on photo-exposed skin. Laboratory and histopathological studies were carried out, leading to the diagnosis of Sweet syndrome. With the results of the paraclinical studies, treatment with systemic and topical corticosteroids was started with an excellent response.

RESUMEN El síndrome de Sweet es un tipo de dermatosis neutrofílica infrecuente, caracterizado por un cuadro febril agudo con aparición de lesiones en piel tipo pápulas y placas eritematosas y dolorosas, con neutrofilia periférica acompañante, que mejora con el uso de corticoides. Se presenta el caso de una paciente de 22 años, con vitíligo como enfermedad de base, que acude por un cuadro de 1 semana de evolución de sensación febril no graduada y aparición insidiosa de lesiones en piel foto expuesta. Se realizó estudios laboratoriales e histopatológicos llegando al diagnóstico de síndrome de Sweet. Con los resultados de los estudios paraclínicos se inició tratamiento con corticoides sistémicos y tópicos con excelente respuesta.

ABSTRACT Acne conglobata is a severe form of acne that produces many inflammatory lesions and scars, marking the patient's life in a negative way. We present the case of two brothers with acne conglobata, both with 2-year-old skin lesions with the appearance of nodules, cysts, and fistulas in extensive body territory. The first with a recent diagnosis of acute promyelocytic leukemia with plans to start chemotherapy and the second with no underlying pathologies. The first case received systemic antibiotic treatment due to infectious complications typical of immunosuppression, he also received dexamethasone and transretinoic acid as chemotherapy, and was discharged with the mentioned drugs and prophylactic antibiotic. The second case received treatment with systemic antibiotic and dapsone. Both cases returned for control at 2 months and significant improvement in skin lesions was observed. The first patient died due to complications inherent to his underlying pathology and the second patient abandoned treatment.

RESUMEN El acné conglobata es una forma severa de acné que produce muchas lesiones inflamatorias y cicatrices, marcando la vida del paciente de manera negativa. Presentamos el caso de 2 hermanos con acné conglobata, ambos con lesiones en piel de 2 años de evolución con aparición de nódulos, quistes y fístulas en territorio corporal extenso. El primero con diagnóstico reciente de leucemia promielocítica aguda en planes de iniciar quimioterapia y, el segundo, sin patologías de base. El primer caso recibió tratamiento antibiótico sistémico por complicaciones infecciosas propias de la inmunodepresión, además recibió dexametasona y ácido transretinoico como quimioterapia, y es dado de alta con dichos medicamentos y antibiótico profiláctico. El segundo caso recibió tratamiento con antibiótico sistémico y dapsona. Ambos acuden a control a los 2 meses y se observó mejoría importante de las lesiones en piel. El primer paciente falleció por complicaciones inherentes a su patología de base y el segundo paciente abandonó el tratamiento.

Resumen Introducción: Evaluar el síndrome metabólico utilizando tres métodos propuestos por instituciones internacionales de referencia, y los índices de adiposidad visceral (VAI) y adiposidad disfuncional (DAI), en la predicción y estimación de la prevalencia en población laboral. Métodos: Estudio transversal en trabajadores de distintas comunidades autónomas españolas a los que se les realizó un examen de salud entre enero 2019 y septiembre 2021 por cuatro servicios de prevención de riesgos laborales. Se evaluó el síndrome metabólico con criterios del National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III (NCEP/ATP-III), International Diabetes Federation (IDF) y Joint Interin Statement (JIS). Se calcularon los valores de VAI y DAI mediante sus fórmulas específicas y su capacidad predictiva mediante curvas ROC. Se utilizó el programa SPSS 27.0, considerando significación estadística p< 0,05. Resultados: Se incluyeron 418 343 trabajadores, la mayoría hombres (58,8%), de edad media entre 30 y 49 años (58,0%), clase social III, tipo de trabajo manual (75,9%) y no fumadores (66,9%). La prevalencia de síndrome metabólico muestra diferencias según el criterio utilizado, siendo superior en hombres con IDF y JIS, y en mujeres con ATPIII. Para las tres definiciones de síndrome metabólico, los valores del área bajo la curva fueron > 0,8 (>80%). El VAI más elevado se obtuvo con JIS, y el DAI más alto con ATPIII. El índice de mayor confianza fue para ATPIII y JIS. Conclusiones: Los índices de adiposidad VAI y DAI muestran una elevada capacidad predictiva del síndrome metabólico con los tres criterios utilizados y pueden ser de utilidad preventiva en salud laboral.

Abstract Objective: To evaluate metabolic syndrome using three methods proposed by recognizedinternational institutions, and the visceral adiposity (VAI) and dysfunctional adiposity (DAI) indices for prediction and prevalence estimation in working populations. Methods: Cross-sectional study in workers from different Spanish autonomous communities who underwent a health examination between January 2019 and September 2021 at four occupational risk prevention services. Metabolic syndrome was evaluated according to criteria from the National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III (NCEP/ATP-III), the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the Joint Interim Statement (JIS). VAI and DAI values were calculated using their specific formulas and their predictive capacity was measured using ROC curves. The SPSS 27.0 program was used, with statistical significance level set at p< 0.05. Results: 418 343 workers were included, mostly men (58.8%), average age between 30 and 49 years (58.0%), social class III, mostly manual workers (75.9%) and nonsmokers (66.9%). The prevalence of metabolic syndrome differed depending on the criteria used, being higher in men with IDF and JIS, and in women with ATPIII. For the three definitions of metabolic syndrome, the values of the area under the curve were > 0.8 (>80%). The highest VAI was obtained with the JIS, and the highest DAI with the ATPIII. The highest confidence index was for ATPIII and JIS. Conclusions: The VAI and ICD adiposity indices show high predictive capacity in metabolic syndrome with all three criteria used and can be useful for prevention activities in occupational health.

Abstract Background: Mexico is a megadiverse country with an elevated diversity of species of vascular plants. A comprehensive Flora that includes all of the vascular plants distributed in Mexico does not yet exist. Electronic Floras have demonstrated the value of a compendium based on existing knowledge and published Floras, checklists and revisions. Questions: What is the best approach for publishing the Flora of Mexico? What resources are needed to create this Flora? What is the current status of these resources? Objective: The objective of this paper is to summarize and evaluate the taxonomic and digital resources and the bioinformatic tools needed to develop an online Flora for the vascular plants of Mexico, as well as to discuss its content. Results and Conclusions: An online flora using the EDIT Platform for Cybertaxonomy is proposed, with the collaboration of Mexican and international researchers. It will be based on approximately 5.3 million specimens deposited in Mexican herbaria, with an inter-operational portal to other biodiversity platforms. The name assigned to this online flora is “eFloraMEX”. As a starting point, the taxonomic backbone, the checklist for the Mexican vascular plants including approximately 29,000 species, was published in a portal (efloramex.ib.unam.mx) to be revised and updated by specialists. A council of taxonomists and computer experts will lead the eFloraMEX project on two fronts: taxonomic and digital resources. The main challenges to completing this Flora are building the team, training taxonomists, digitizing the specimens for most of Mexican herbaria and obtaining the required long-term funding.

Resumen Antecedentes: México es un país megadiverso con una elevada diversidad especies de plantas, sin embargo, no se ha publicado a la fecha una flora sintética. Las Floras electrónicas han demostrado la relevancia de tomar en cuenta el conocimiento botánico previo de Floras, listados florísticos y revisiones. Preguntas: ¿Cuál es la mejor estrategia para publicar la Flora de México? ¿Cuáles son los recursos necesarios para publicarla? ¿Se tienen los recursos necesarios? Objetivo: El objetivo de este artículo es el de resumir y evaluar los recursos taxonómicos y digitales y las herramientas bioinformáticas para llevar a cabo una flora en línea para las plantas vasculares de México, así como discutir su contenido. Resultados y Conclusiones: Se utilizará la plataforma “EDIT” para Cibertaxonomía. La denominación para la flora en línea de México es eFloraMEX y contará con la colaboración de taxónomos nacionales e internacionales, que estudien 5.3 millones de especímenes de herbarios mexicanos, con un portal propio e inter-operacional. Como punto de partida, se publicó la lista florística inicial incluyendo alrededor de 29,000 especies de plantas vasculares (efloramex.ib.unam.mx), la cual será actualizada y revisada. eFloraMEX se desarrollará tomando en cuenta obras existentes y será coordinada por un comité de taxónomos y bioinformáticos con base en dos ejes: taxonómico y de recursos digitales. Los desafíos más importantes que tendrá que enfrentar la eFloraMEX serán los de formar taxónomos que completen la flora mexicana, digitalizar especímenes de la gran mayoría de herbarios del país, así como logar financiamiento a largo plazo para apoyar este proyecto.

Abstract: This work examines the impact of intensive treatment in a Mental Health Day Hospital (HD) on the subsequent use of healthcare resources (community and hospital), as well as occupational and training ones. It starts from a longitudinal and ambispective descriptive design in which the differential use of resources by users of the Mental Health network is studied in an innovative way, before and after treatment in HD. Finally, the clinical implications and recommendations are discussed according to the results.

Resumen: El presente trabajo examina el impacto del tratamiento intensivo en un Hospital de Día de Salud Mental (HD-SM) sobre el uso posterior de recursos asistenciales (comunitarios y hospitalarios), así como ocupacionales y formativos. Se parte de un diseño descriptivo longitudinal y ambispectivo en el que se estudia de forma innovadora el uso diferencial de los recursos por parte de los usuarios de la red de Salud Mental, antes y después del tratamiento en HD. Finalmente, se discuten las implicaciones y recomendaciones clínicas de acuerdo con los resultados.

Abstract Background: hypovitaminosis D is frequent in kidney transplant recipient (KTR) patients and is associated with deleterious effects both at the bone and extraosseous levels. Treatment with cholecalciferol is effective for the normalization of 25(OH)D, demonstrating a beneficial effect on the calcium-tropic axis in other populations; however, its effect on the PTH/vitamin D/calcium and FGF23/klotho/phosphorus axis in RTR has not been reported. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of normalization of serum 25(OH)D concentrations on the PTH/vitamin D/calcium-FGF23/klotho/phosphorus axis in KTR treated with cholecalciferol, as well as the association between the components of this axis. Methods: a prospective study in 23 KTR with hypovitaminosis D, with evolution from 1 to 12 months post-transplantation, an estimated glomerular filtration rate > 60 mL/min/1.73 m2 and a history of primary nephropathy treated with cholecalciferol, in whom the PTH/vitamin D/calcium and FGF23/klotho/phosphorus axis was evaluated during the state of hypovitaminosis D and at normalization of 25(OH)D. Results: at the normalization of 25(OH)D, a reduction in PTH [103 (58.5-123.9) vs 45.6 (30.1-65.1) pg/mL; p = 0.002] and an increase in serum phosphorus [3.1 (2.3-3.5) vs 3.3 (3-3.6) mg/dL; p = 0.01] were evident, with no differences in calcium, klotho and FGF23 concentrations. The time to achieve normalization of 25(OH)D was 12 weeks (RIC, 4-12), with a dose of 5000 IU/day (RIC, 4000-6000). A positive association between klotho and PTH was corroborated (r = 0.54; p = 0.008; linear regression, β = 0.421; B = 0.004; 95 % CI, 0.003-0.007; p = 0.045). Conclusions: treatment with cholecalciferol is effective for the normalization of 25(OH)D, with a beneficial effect on calcium-phosphotropic metabolism characterized by a reduction in PTH concentration, without significant changes in calcemia or calciuria, as well as an increase in phosphatemia, without modifications in FGF23 or klotho concentrations.

Resumen Introducción: la hipovitaminosis D es frecuente en los receptores de trasplante renal (RTR) y se asocia con efectos deletéreos tanto a nivel óseo como extraóseo. El tratamiento con colecalciferol es eficaz para la normalización de la 25(OH)D, demostrándose un efecto benéfico sobre el eje calciotrópico; sin embargo, su efecto sobre el eje fosfotrópico no se ha reportado. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar el efecto de la normalización de las concentraciones séricas de 25(OH)D sobre el eje PTH/vitamina D/calcio-FGF23/klotho/fósforo en RTR tratados con colecalciferol, así como la asociación entre sus componentes. Métodos: estudio prospectivo en 23 RTR con hipovitaminosis D y antecedente de nefropatía primaria tratados con colecalciferol, en quienes se evaluó el eje PTH/vitamina D/calcio y FGF23/klotho/fósforo durante el estado de hipovitaminosis D y a la normalización de la 25(OH)D. Resultados: a la normalización de la 25(OH)D se evidenció una reducción de la PTH [103 (58,5-123,9) vs. 45,6 (30,1-65,1) pg/mL; p = 0,002] y un aumento del fósforo sérico [3,1 (2,3-3,5) vs. 3,3 (3-3,6) mg/dL; p = 0,01], sin diferencias en las concentraciones de calcio, klotho y FGF23. El tiempo para lograr la normalización de la 25(OH)D fue de 12 semanas (4-12), con una dosis de 5000 UI/día (4000-6000). Se corroboró una asociación positiva entre klotho y PTH (r = 0,54; p = 0,008; regresión lineal, β = 0,421; IC 95 %: 0,003-0,007; p = 0,045). Conclusiones: el tratamiento con colecalciferol es eficaz para la normalización de la 25(OH)D con un efecto benéfico sobre el metabolismo calcio-fosfotrópico caracterizado por una reducción de la PTH y un incremento de la fosfatemia, sin modificaciones de calcemia, calciuria, FGF23 o klotho.
