Resumo A religiosidade e a espiritualidade proporcionam força e confiança a pacientes com neoplasia para encarar situações difíceis ao longo do processo da busca pela cura, indicando que o uso da fé é importante nesse momento. O estudo buscou analisar, por meio de revisão sistemática de literatura, a produção científica nacional e internacional para aferir se práticas religiosas e espirituais facilitam a adesão terapêutica e melhoram a qualidade de vida da população com câncer. O sistema Grades of Recommendation, Assessment, Development and Evaluation foi empregado para classificar o nível de evidência dos estudos. Alguns artigos demonstraram que espiritualidade e religiosidade influenciam positivamente no tratamento e bem-estar dos pacientes. Abstract Religiosity and spirituality provide cancer patients with strength and confidence to face difficult situations during the process of seeking a cure, indicating that faith is an important element at this time. Resumo Neste trabalho, pretendeu-se analisar aspectos éticos no seguimento terapêutico de pacientes com HIV mediante revisão sistemática de literatura, realizada por meio de pesquisas nas bases PubMed, LILACS e MEDLINE, usando descritores em inglês e português, com 169 publicações de 2011 a 2021. Para evitar viés, foi utilizado o método Prisma e consideradas as recomendações estabelecidas pelo sistema Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation para classificação do nível de evidência. O bem-estar de pacientes com HIV está associado ao nível de relações interpessoais, qualidade do tratamento e crenças pessoais. A estigmatização e o medo da divulgação da doença nos grupos em que convivem são os principais motivos de aflição. Com isso, é fundamental um maior apoio aos pacientes durante o diagnóstico e tratamento da doença, para que possam elaborar melhor suas estratégias de enfrentamento.

Abstract This study analyzed ethical aspects in the therapeutic follow-up of patients with HIV via a systematic literature review conducted by searching the PubMed, LILACS and MEDLINE databases, using descriptors in English and Portuguese language, with 169 publications from 2011 to 2021. To avoid bias, the Prisma guidelines were used and the recommendations established by the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation system were considered to classify the level of evidence. The well-being of HIV patients is associated with the level of interpersonal relationships, quality of treatment and personal beliefs. Stigmatization and fear of the dissemination of the disease in the groups in which they live are the main reasons for distress. Support to patients during the diagnosis and treatment of the disease are fundamental, so that they can better apply their coping strategies.

Resumen Este trabajo propone analizar los aspectos éticos en el seguimiento terapéutico de pacientes con VIH a través de una revisión sistemática de la literatura en las bases de datos PubMed, LILACS y MEDLINE, utilizando descriptores en inglés y portugués, lo que resultó en 169 publicaciones entre 2011 y 2021. Para evitar sesgos se utilizó el método Prisma y, para clasificar el nivel de evidencia, se consideraron las recomendaciones establecidas por el sistema Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation. El bienestar de los pacientes con VIH estuvo asociado al nivel de relaciones interpersonales, calidad del tratamiento y creencias personales. El estigma y el miedo a propagar la enfermedad en los grupos con los cuales conviven fueron los principales motivos de preocupación. Por lo tanto, es fundamental brindar un mayor apoyo a los pacientes durante el diagnóstico y tratamiento de la enfermedad para que puedan desarrollar mejor sus estrategias de afrontamiento.

Resumo O ipê-roxo, Handroanthus impetiginosus, é uma espécie arbórea importante na conservação do bioma Cerrado e muito procurada no paisagismo e arborização urbana. No entanto, sua micropropagação é afetada por patógenos, como Oidium sp. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a eficácia dos tratamentos em sementes no controle do oídio do ipê roxo por micropropagação. Os sintomas foram observados durante a germinação in vitro, os postulados de Koch foram realizados para confirmação da patogenicidade, a colonização do patógeno nas folhas foi analisada em microscópios ópticos e de varredura e uma escala para avaliação de severidade foi proposta. Foram realizados dois ensaios para controle do oídio em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com 30 repetições. Primeiro experimento: sementes foram tratadas com etanol, clorotalonil + tiofanato-metílico (C+TM) e hipoclorito de sódio; segundo experimento: sementes foram tratadas com etanol, NaOCl, C+TM e óleo de neem. A severidade da doença e a área abaixo da curva de progresso da doença foram quantificadas. Os sintomas da doença e estruturas típicas do patógeno foram observados e a patogenicidade foi confirmada. A severidade da doença foi reduzida em 30,78% com 1,5% de óleo de neem por 10 min quando comparado com C + TM por 15 min. Concluímos que o óleo de neem pode ser uma estratégia sustentável para o controle do oídio em ipê roxo na cultura de tecidos.

Abstract Purple ipe (Handroanthus impetiginosus) is an important tree species in Cerrado biome conservation and very popular at the landscaping and urban afforestation. However, its micropropagation is affected by pathogens, such as Oidium sp. The aim this study was evaluate the efficiency of seed treatments in the control of powdery mildew of purple ipe obtained by micropropagation. The symptoms were observed during in vitro germination, a Koch’s postulates were performed for confirm the pathogenicity, colonization of the pathogen on the leaves was analyzed in optical and scanning microscopes and a scale to evaluate severity was proposed. Two experiments were realized to powdery mildew control using a completely randomized design, with 30 replicates. First experiment: Seeds were treated with ethanol (Et), chlorothalonil + thiophanate-methyl (C+TM), and sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl); second experiment: Seeds were treated with Et, NaOCl, C+TM, and neem oil. Disease severity and area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC) were assessed in both experiments. Disease symptoms and typical pathogen structures were observed, and the pathogenicity was confirmed. The disease severity was reduced by 30.78% in 1.5% neem oil for 10 min when compared with C+TM for 15 min. We conclude that neem oil can be a strategy sustainable for the control of powdery mildew in purple ipe in tissue culture.

Introduction: Olfactory dysfunction (OD) is one of the most reported symptoms of COVID -19. Previous studies have identified olfactory training (OT) as an important treatment for postinfectious OD, but little is known about its effect after SARS-CoV-2 infection and how it can be optimized. Objective: To assess whether OT can be optimized if performed intensively, with more fragrances over a shorter period in patients with persistent OD after COVID -19. Also, to determine the presence of other variables related to OD and treatment response in this population. Method: This multicenter randomized clinical trial recruited 80 patients with persistent OD with previous COVID-19 for less than three months. The patients were divided into two groups, who received treatment with 4 and 8 essences over four weeks. Subjective assessments and the University of Pennsylvania Smell Identification Test (UPSIT) were performed before and after treatment. Results: A significant improvement in olfaction was measured subjectively and on UPSIT in both groups, but without significant differences between groups. In addition, the presence of olfactory fluctuation was associated with higher UPSIT scores. Conclusion: These data suggest that intensifying the training by increasing the number of essences for 4 weeks does not show superiority over the classical method. Moreover, a fluctuating olfactory ability seems to be related to a better score in the UPSIT.

RESUMO Objetivo: revisar a literatura disponível sobre a relação entre alterações auditivas e deficiência da biotinidase. Métodos: a busca foi realizada entre outubro de 2018 e agosto de 2021, nas bases de dados: ELSEVIER, MEDLINE, SciELO, LILACS. Utilizaram-se descritores em português, inglês e espanhol, além das ferramentas PRISMA para seleção dos artigos e STROBE para análise dos mesmos. Revisão da Literatura: foram selecionados artigos publicados entre 1983 e 2020 que respondiam à pergunta norteadora da pesquisa. Foram incluídos estudos observacionais, estudos de série de casos e relatos de caso, e excluídos os artigos sem descrição dos métodos utilizados, realizados pelo mesmo autor e com a mesma amostra. A estratégia de busca inicial identificou 152 artigos. Após aplicados os critérios de inclusão e exclusão, 14 artigos foram incluídos na presente revisão. Conclusão: a presença de biotina foi frequentemente associada à gênese das vias auditivas. Foi observada uma relação sugerida pela literatura entre deficiência da biotinidase e alterações auditivas.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to review the available literature on the relationship between hearing disorders and Biotinidase deficiency. Methods: a literature search carried out between October 2018 and August 2021, on the following databases: ELSEVIER, MEDLINE, SciELO, LILACS. Descriptors were used in English, Portuguese, and Spanish. PRISMA tools were used to select the articles and STROBE was used to analyze them. Literature Review: the selected articles were published between 1983 and 2020 and answered the guiding question of the research. Observational studies, case series studies, and case reports were included. Articles without a methodology description, or carried out by the same author and with the same sample were excluded. The initial search strategy identified 152 articles. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 14 articles were selected for this review. Conclusion: the presence of Biotin was often associated with auditory pathways origins. The literature suggested a relationship between Biotinidase deficiency and hearing disorders.

Abstract: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the influence of socioeconomic factors, oral conditions and the impact of OHRQoL as possible risk indicators related to the incidence of untreated dental caries in preschool children two years after an initial examination. A prospective longitudinal study was performed with a sample of 288 preschool children allocated to two groups at baseline (T0): caries free (n = 144) and with untreated dental caries (n = 144). Untreated dental caries was determined through clinical examinations performed by a calibrated dentist at T0 (Kappa > 0,89) and T1 (two years after the baseline) (Kappa > 0,91) using the dmft criteria. Parents/caregivers answered a socioeconomic questionnaire and the Brazilian version of the Early Childhood Oral Health Impact Scale (B-ECOHIS) at T0 and T1. Mann-Whitney test and hierarchically adjusted Poisson regression models were used (95%CI, p < 0,05). The incidence of untreated dental caries was 41.3%. Low (RR = 1.63; 95%CI:1.18–2.26; p < 0.001) and high severity of untreated dental caries (RR = 1.92; 95%CI:1.36–2.72; p < 0.001), monthly household income less than two times the Brazilian minimum salary (RR = 1.79; 95%CI:1.04–3.25; p = 0.042) and overall B-ECOHIS score (RR = 1.03; 95%CI:1.02–1.05; p < 0.001) at T0 were risk indicators for the incidence of untreated dental caries among the preschool children. In conclusion, the incidence of untreated dental caries was high and the higher severity of untreated dental caries, the lower monthly income and the higher the B-ECOHIS score (indicating a negative impact on quality of life) were risk indicators to the developing of new lesions of untreated dental caries after 2 years.

Resumo Objetivos Identificar a prevalência do início da atividade sexual em adolescentes e a prática de sexo seguro entre os mesmos. Método Estudo transversal realizado com 499 adolescentes, em Pouso Alegre, Minas Gerais, de fevereiro a abril de 2017, por meio de um questionário autoaplicado e semiestruturado, contemplando iniciação, práticas sexuais, conhecimento sobre contracepção, prevenção de infecções sexualmente transmissíveis e participação em atividades educativas sobre o tema. Os dados foram analisados por estatística descritiva, as diferenças estatísticas avaliadas pelo teste X2 de Pearson. Resultados A prevalência da atividade sexual foi 47,3%, com idade média da sexarca de 14,1 anos, e tendência de iniciação sexual precoce no sexo masculino. Um terço das primeiras relações sexuais foram desprotegidas (33,9%). As participantes do sexo feminino apresentavam maior conhecimento a respeito de contracepção e prevenção de doenças, menor adesão ao uso de preservativos e maior utilização de contraceptivos orais e de emergência. Conclusão e implicações para a prática O estudo mostrou início precoce de vida sexual entre adolescentes, e um terço das relações sexuais sem proteção. Há necessidade de ações de saúde e educação que garantam a aquisição de conhecimento e acesso a métodos contraceptivos.

Abstract Objective Identify the prevalence of sexual activity initiation in adolescents and the practice of safe sex among them. Method A cross-sectional study carried out with 499 adolescents in Porto Alegre, Minas Gerais, from February to April 2017, using a self-administered and semi-structured questionnaire, covering sexual initiation and practices, knowledge about contraceptive methods, prevention of sexually transmitted infections and participation in educational activities on the theme. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the statistical differences were assessed using Pearson's X2 test. Results The prevalence of sexual activity was 47.3%, with a mean age of 14.1 years old at first sexual intercourse, and a tendency for early sexual initiation in the male gender. One third of the first sexual intercourses were unprotected (33.9%). Female participants had greater knowledge about contraceptive methods and disease prevention, lower adherence to condom use and greater use of oral and emergency contraceptives. Conclusion and implications for the practice The study showed an early initiation of sexual life among adolescents, and one third of unprotected sexual intercourses. There is a need for health and education actions that guarantee the acquisition of knowledge and access to contraceptive methods.

Resumen Objetivos Identificar la prevalencia de la actividad sexual en adolescentes y la práctica de sexo seguro entre ellos. Método Estudio transversal realizado con 499 adolescentes, de febrero a abril de 2017, por medio de un cuestionario autoadministrado y semiestructurado, que abarca la iniciación sexual y las prácticas, conocimiento sobre métodos anticonceptivos, prevención de infecciones de transmisión sexual y participación en actividades educativas sobre el tema. Los datos se analizaron mediante estadística descriptiva y las diferencias estadísticas se evaluaron mediante la prueba X2 de Pearson. Resultados La prevalencia de la actividad sexual fue del 47,3%, con una edad promedio de la primera relación sexual de 14,1 años y una tendencia a la iniciación sexual temprana entre los participantes masculinos. Un tercio de las primeras relaciones sexuales fueron desprotegidas (33,9%). Las mujeres participantes tenían mayor conocimiento sobre los métodos anticonceptivos y prevención de enfermedades, menos adherencia al uso del condón y mayor uso de anticonceptivos orales y de emergencia. Conclusión e implicaciones para la práctica El estudio mostró un inicio temprano de la vida sexual entre un grupo de adolescentes y un tercio de las relaciones sexuales sin protección. Se advierte la necesidad de llevar a cabo acciones en materia de salud y educación que garanticen la adquisición de conocimiento y el acceso a métodos anticonceptivos.

Resumen: Los jóvenes en educación superior son más vulnerables a la aparición de síntomas psicológicos en el contexto de COVID-19. La pandemia, la adaptación a la educación a distancia y otras dificultades afectan el bienestar de los estudiantes universitarios. Este estudio buscó investigar la percepción de bienestar y salud mental de los que realizaron educación remota durante la cuarentena. Esto es un estudio transversal, exploratorio y descriptivo. El instrumento utilizado fue “Cuestionario sobre la percepción de aislamiento social de estudiantes universitarios durante la cuarentena de COVID-19”. Utilizando la técnica de muestreo de referencia, los estudiantes lanzaron el enlace para acceder al cuestionario en línea a sus compañeros. Participaron 497 estudiantes, la mayoría mujeres (74,69%) con una media de edad de 21,71 (DE = 2,85) matriculados en una institución pública de educación superior (72,89%). Se encontró una correlación positiva y significativa (p<0,0001) para el rendimiento académico deteriorado por este modelo de enseñanza y la percepción negativa de salud y bienestar mental. En el resultado cualitativo se identificaron percepcíon de mayor ansiedad (15,35%), estrés (7,3%) y alteración del sueño (7,67%). Aproximadamente el 91,96% realiza prácticas de autocuidado y manejo emocional. Por tanto, los resultados convergen con la literatura e implican que la educación remota puede impactar el bienestar y generar inseguridad en cuanto a la calidad y solidez de la formación académica. Los datos de este estudio sugieren que las instituciones deben implementar actividades preventivas relacionadas con la salud mental de los estudiantes y adaptar el aprendizaje a distancia para reducir la angustia de los universitarios.

Abstract: Young people in higher education are more vulnerable to the appearance of psychological symptoms in the context of COVID-19. Also, the adaptation to remote education and other difficulties can affect the well-being of university students. Therefore, this study sought to investigate the perception of well-being and mental health of university students who underwent remote education during quarantine. This is a cross-sectional, exploratory, and descriptive study. The instrument used was “Questionnaire on the perception of social isolation by university students during quarantine of COVID-19”. Using the reference sampling technique, university students released the link to access the online questionnaire to their peers. 497 students participated, most of them women (74.69%), with mean age of 21.71 (SD = 2.85), enrolled in a public higher education institution (HEI) (72.89%). A positive and significant correlation was found (p <0.0001) for academic performance impaired by the adhesion of Emergency Remote Education and the negative perception of mental health and well-being. In the qualitative part, participants noticed anxiety (15.35%), stress (7.3%) and altered sleep (7.67%). About 91.96% of the participants are engaged in self-care and emotional management practices. Therefore, the results converge with the literature and imply that online education can impact well-being and generate insecurity regarding the quality and solidity of academic training. Data from this study suggest that institutions should implement preventive activities regarding students' mental health and adapt remote learning in order to reduce student’s distress.

Resumo: Jovens em ensino superior são mais vulneráveis ao aparecimento de sintomas psicológicos diante do contexto de COVID-19. Não só a pandemia, como a adaptação à realidade do ensino remoto e demais dificuldades podem afetar o bem estar dos universitários. Por isso, esse estudo buscou investigar a percepção de bem-estar e saúde mental de universitários que realizaram ensino remoto durante a quarentena. Trata-se de um estudo transversal, exploratório e descritivo. Utilizou-se o instrumento “Questionário sobre percepção do isolamento social por universitários durante quarentena da COVID-19”. Por meio da técnica por amostragem de referência os universitários divulgaram o link de acesso ao questionário online a seus pares. Participaram 497 estudantes, a maioria mulheres (74,69%) com média de idade 21,71 (DP=2.85), matriculados em Instituição de Ensino Superior pública (IES) (72.89%). Encontrou-se correlação positiva e significante (p<0.0001) para prejuízo no desempenho acadêmico pela adesão ao Ensino Remoto Emergencial e a percepção negativa na saúde mental e no bem-estar. Nos dados qualitativos, foram identificados percepção de maior ansiedade (15.35%), estresse (7.3%) e alteração do sono (7.67%) nos participantes. Cerca de 91.96% dos participantes estão engajados em práticas de auto cuidado e gerenciamento emocional. Portanto, os resultados convergem com a literatura e implicam que o ensino remoto pode impactar negativamente sobre o bem-estar e gerar insegurança quanto à qualidade e solidez da formação acadêmica. Os dados desse estudo sugerem que as instituições implementem atividades preventivas em relação à saúde mental dos estudantes e adequem o ensino remoto a fim de reduzir o sofrimento identificado.

Abstract The differential diagnosis of optic neuritis is broad and varied. We report the case of a 24-year-old Brazilian man who presented with five-week history of fever, malaise, myalgia, severe fatigue, tender right preauricular lymphadenopathy, and acute vision blurring associated with right optic disc swelling and exudates in a macular star pattern. His illness developed soon after an infestation of fleas broke out among his cats. Diagnosis of ocular bartonellosis was confirmed by serological and molecular analyses targeting amplification of Bartonella spp. htrA gene. Signs and symptoms only improved after initiation of antimicrobial therapy.

Resumo Plantas desenvolvidas in vitro podem apresentar características estruturais e fisiológicas pouco funcionais. Contudo, o tipo de vedação dos recipientes utilizados na cultura de tecidos pode minimizar tais características. Este estudo avaliou a influência do tipo de vedação dos tubos de ensaio sobre a anatomia e a ultraestrutura das folhas de Aechmea bromeliifolia (Rudge) Baker (Bromeliaceae), uma bromélia ornamental nativa do Brasil, desenvolvidas in vitro. Foram utilizados três tipos de vedação: tampa rígida de polipropileno (PC), filme de policloreto de vinila (PVC) e PC coberta com uma membrana microporosa (PM). Para efeitos de comparação, plantas provenientes de sementes germinadas em telado também foram estudadas. As plantas desenvolvidas em tubos vedados com PM se assemelharam mais às desenvolvidas em telado, quanto à abertura dos estômatos, a presença de grãos de amido e a organização do sistema interno de membranas dos cloroplastos. Nas plantas cultivadas em tubos vedados com PC, houve maior densidade estomática e os cloroplastos ficaram com grandes áreas sem tilacóides no estroma. Na condição PVC, pouco ou nenhum grão de amido foi encontrado. Esses resultados sugerem que a membrana microporosa, adicionada ao orifício da PC, proporcionou uma vedação com ventilação natural, contribuindo para o melhor desenvolvimento das plantas.

Abstract In vitro grown plants may have abnormal structural and physiological features. However, the type of the sealing material used in tissue culture may minimize such abnormalities. This study evaluates the influence of the type of sealing of test tubes on the anatomical and ultrastructural features of leaves of Aechemea bromeliifolia (Rudge) Baker (Bromeliaceae), an ornamental bromeliad native to Brazil, grown in vitro. Three types of sealing were used: rigid polypropylene cap (PC), polyvinyl chloride film (PVC), and PC coupled with a microporous membrane (PM). Seedlings germinated in a greenhouse were also studied for comparison. Plants grown in test tubes sealed with PM were more similar to those from the greenhouse, as far as the pattern of stomatal opening, the presence of starch grains, and the organization of the internal membrane system of the chloroplasts is concerned. Plants cultivated in test tubes sealed with PC had higher stomatal density and the chloroplasts had large areas without thylakoids in the stroma. Plants grown in test tubes sealed with PVC had few or no starch grains. These results suggest that microporous membrane used coupled with PC sealing provided natural ventilation, thus contributing to a better plant development.

ABSTRACT Natural ventilation micropropagation systems differ from conventional systems by allowing gas exchange between the internal and external media of the culture flask. The objective of this work was to compare the conventional system of in vitro propagation of Eugenia dysenterica (Mart.) DC. with a natural ventilation system. For shooting, explants were inoculated into test tubes with conventional lids and natural ventilation lids (NV), and WPM medium supplemented with four concentrations levels of 6-benzilaminopurine (BAP). The position of explants in each plant was considered by identifying buds as more proximate to the root, or to the apex, or in an intermediate position. Plant growth in the natural ventilation system was superior to that in the conventional system, with a 448.53% increase in leaf number, 85.64% increase in chlorophyll a levels and 74.90% increase in chlorophyll b levels. Plants with intermediate buds exhibited better results. Foliar anatomical analysis revealed abnormalities in leaves grown in the conventional system such as “giant” stomata, which remain always open. Our results indicate that the use of natural ventilation improves the water loss regulation capacity in micropropagated E. dysenterica plants and may favor plants survival and growth after transference to the natural environment.

ABSTRACT Introduction and objective: In this study, we evaluated the influence of the transcript type on hematological and clinical parameters, as well as the event-free survival of 50 patients in the Chronic myeloid leukemia chronic phase. Methods: We reviewed the medical records of 55 patients with Chronic myeloid leukemia. The eligibility criteria were based on the availability of hematological and clinical baseline data in the medical records. Data on BCR-ABL transcripts were obtained from medical records. Results: Eighteen patients (36%) had the b2a2 transcript, 24 (48%) had b3a2 and 8 (16%) had b2a2/b3a2. The median platelet count for transcripts b2a2, b3a2 and b2a2/b3a2 was 320.65 × 103/L, 396 × 103/L, and 327.05 × 103/L, respectively (p = 0.896). We could not find any differences in relation to the other hematological parameters, when compared to the transcript type. Comparison between spleen and liver size and type of transcript did not differ inside the groups (p = 0.395 and p = 0.647, respectively) and the association between risk scores and transcript type did not show statistical significance (p > 0.05). The 21-month probability for event-free survival was 21%, 48% and 66% for the transcripts b2a2, b3a2 and b2a2/b3a2 respectively (p = 0.226) Conclusion: We conclude that the expression BCR-ABL transcripts have no influence on hematological, clinical and event-free survival parameters of patients in the Chronic myeloid leukemia chronic phase.

RESUMO Os solos da região semi-árida de Minas Gerais possuem pequena profundidade; consistência dura, muito dura ou mesmo extremamente dura quando seca e muito plástica e muito pegajosa quando úmida; estrutura colunar ou em blocos angulares e fendilhamento significativo ao longo do perfil no período seco, entretanto eles não foram profundamente estudados até agora. Assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi detalhar a gênese dos Luvissolos da Depressão Semi-árida do Vale do Jequitinhonha (MG), a partir de atributos morfológicos, físicos, químicos, micromorfológicos e mineralógicos, e suas relações. A ausência de cutãs de iluviação na análise micromorfológica em laboratório foi consistente com a fraca e pouca cerosidade observada no topo do horizonte B de apenas um dos quatro perfis de solo estudados durante os trabalhos de campo. Considerando a ocorrência de argilominerais 2:1 expansíveis, os quais podem facilmente modificar tal feição pedológica, cautela é recomendada com relação à interpretação da gênese do solo. Desta maneira, a perda lateral de argila dos horizontes superficiais é enfatizada como o principal processo de formação dos Luvissolos estudados. A capacidade de troca de cátions desses solos revelou valores diferencialmente mais baixos para Luvissolos em regiões semi-áridas brasileiras.

ABSTRACT Soils of the semi-arid region of Minas Gerais have small depth; hard, very hard or even extremely hard consistency when dry and very plastic and very sticky when moist; columnar or angular blocky structure and significant cracking along the profile in the dry period, however they have not been deeply studied yet. Thus, the aim of this study was to detail the genesis of Luvisols in the Semi-arid Depression of the Jequitinhonha Valley (MG), incompassing morphological, physical, chemical, micromorphological and mineralogical attributes, and their relationships. The lack of illuviation coatings in the micromorphological analysis is in line with the expressionless and unclear clay skins observed in the top of the B horizon in only one out of the four soil profiles during the field work. Considering the occurrence of expandable 2:1 clay minerals, which can easily modify such pedological feature, caution is recommended in relation to soil genesis interpretation. The lateral loss of the clay fraction from the superficial horizons is highlighted as the main formation process of the Luvisols studied. The cation exchange capacity of these soils revealed remarkable lower values for the Luvisols in semi-arid Brazilian regions.

Resumo Fungos do complexo Rhizoctonia são micorrízicos de orquídeas e podem germinar suas sementes e desenvolver as plântulas. Neste contexto, nosso objetivo foi selecionar um isolado fúngico para promover a germinação e o desenvolvimento de plântulas de Cyrtopodium saintlegerianum. Foram encontrados pelotons nas raízes desta orquídea e foram identificados três fungos micorrízicos. Nós testamos os isolados obtidos das raízes de C. saintlegerianum e seis outros isolados micorrízicos assim como três isolados patogênicos (de arroz e feijão) para germinar as sementes em meio de aveia-agar. Sementes não inoculadas foram usadas como controle. Os isolados En07 (Waitea circinata), Cs10 (Tulasnella sp.) e Ro88 (Rhizoctonia oryzae) foram eficientes para promover a germinação, mas somente o En07diferiu estatisticamente do controle. O isolado não específico En07 promoveu 81% de germinação e o isolado específico (Cs10) promoveu 60%, evidenciando a associação micorrízica não específica durante a germinação. Plântulas axênicas foram inoculadas com quatro fungos micorrízicos (plântulas não inoculadas - controle). Após seis meses, os isolados En07 e Cs10 foram eficientes na interação com as plântulas, mas não diferiram do controle. Portanto, nossos resultados sugerem que fungos do complexo Rhizoctonia podem ser usados na germinação e no desenvolvimento de plântulas de C. saintlegerianum.

Abstract Fungi of Rhizoctonia complex are mycorrhizal of orchids and may to germinate yours seeds and development the seedlings. In this context, our objective was to select a fungal isolate to promote seed germination and seedling development of Cyrtopodium saintlegerianum. Pelotons were found in the roots and three mycorrhizal fungi were isolated. We tested mycorrhizal isolates obtained from C. saintlegerianum roots and six mycorrhizal fungi from other orchids as well three pathogenic isolates (of rice and bean) to germinate the seeds in oatmeal-agar medium. Seeds not inoculated were used as control. The isolates En07 (Waitea circinata), Cs10 (Tulasnella sp.) and Ro88 (Rhizoctonia oryzae) were efficient to promote seed germination, but only En07 differing statistically of the control. The non-specific isolate En07 promoted germination in 81% of seeds and the specific isolate (Cs10) promoted 60%, evidencing the non-specificity mycorrhizal association in this orchid during germination. Axenic seedlings were inoculated with four mycorrhizal fungi (non-inoculated seedlings - control). After six months, the isolates En07 and Cs10 were efficient in the interaction with the seedlings, but did not differ to the control. Therefore, our results suggested that fungi of the Rhizoctonia complex can be used in the germination and seedling development of C. saintlegerianum.

Resumo Este trabalho objetivou avaliar a prevalência e a sazonalidade da infecção natural por parasitos gastrintestinais em bubalinos de aptidão leiteira de diferentes categorias, no município de Bandeirantes, Mato Grosso do Sul. Foram avaliados 41 búfalos da raça Murrah, divididos em três categorias, sendo 11 lactentes, com idade de 0 a 8 meses, 10 desmamados, de 8 a 18 meses, e 20 fêmeas adultas com idade superior a 18 meses. Os animais adultos apresentaram-se livres de parasitismo ou com carga parasitária muito baixa. A categoria lactente apresentou pico de contagem de ovos por grama de fezes (OPG=2038) em novembro, quando a precipitação acumulada foi de 69,3 mm e a temperatura 25,95 ºC, enquanto a menor contagem de ovos (167) ocorreu em maio, dois meses após pico de 234,68 mm e 20,59 ºC. Os búfalos desmamados apresentaram dois picos de OPG, de 1288 e 875, em setembro e junho, com precipitação de 41,45 e 18,4 mm e temperatura de 24,16 e 20,69 ºC, respectivamente. Foi observada correlação significativa (p=0,01) e negativa (r=-0,33) entre o OPG dos bezerros lactentes e precipitação pluviométrica. Os parasitos gastrintestinais mais frequentes foram Haemonchus sp. e Cooperia sp.

Abstract This study evaluated the prevalence and seasonality of natural infection by gastrointestinal parasites and the susceptibility of different dairy buffalo categories in Bandeirantes, state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. Forty-one Murrah buffaloes were divided into three categories, 11 suckling calves (0-8 months old), 10 weaned calves (8-18 months old), and 20 adult females over the age of 18 months. Adult animals were free from parasitism or showed very low parasite load. The suckling calves showed a peak of egg per gram of feces (EPG = 2038) in November, when the average rainfall was 69.3 mm and the temperature 25.95 ºC, while the lowest egg count (167) occurred in May, two months after the peak of 234.68 mm and 20.59 ºC. Weaned calves showed two peaks of EPG from 1288.89 and 875 in September and June, with rainfall of 41.45 and 18.4 mm, temperature 24.16 and 20.69 ºC, respectively. Significant (p = 0.01) and negative (r = -0.33) correlation between the EPG of suckling calves and precipitation was observed. The most common gastrointestinal parasites were Haemonchus sp. and Cooperia sp.
