RESUMO Problemas de agendamento são tarefas da rotina operacional presentes nas empresas, que exigem uma solução ótima para apoiar a decisão. No entanto, esses problemas ainda não foram investigados com frequência na ciência florestal. Neste sentido, propôs-se descrever uma formulação matemática para a otimização da silvicultura sob restrição de agendamento da mão de obra/ sequenciamento das atividades (SSRRMM). Buscando o método mais adequado para solucionar este problema combinatório, comparou-se duas estratégias: i) Programação Linear Inteira (PLI) e ii) Simulated annealing (SA). Os principais critérios para avaliar o desempenho das estratégias foram fornecer soluções fáctiveis em tempo de processamento e custo final do projeto aceitáveis. A instância abordada é um problema real contendo 32 talhões e cinco atividades silviculturais programadas dentro de um prazo de 40 dias. Testou-se ainda três funções objetivo, definindo estudos de caso (S) para atender às decisões recorrentes dos gestores, minimizando: S1 - custo do projeto, S2 - makespan e S3 - utilização da mão de obra. Os resultados revelam um modelo robusto para apoiar o planejador florestal em tarefas a nível operacional. O PLI alcançou a solução ótima apenas para a minimização do custo do projeto (S1) devido à demora no tempo de processamento dos outros estudos de caso. Desta forma, destaca-se o SA como um método eficiente para solucionar o SSRRMM, fornecendo soluções satisfatórias em um tempo reduzido. Todas as funções objetivo se ajustaram adequadamente aos seus objetivos propostos. As funções de makespan e de uso da mão de obra aumentaram US$ 1.820,29 (S2) e US$ 2.146,39 (S3) em relação ao S1, respectivamente, para terminar o projeto mais cedo e reduzir a oscilação do uso da mão de obra ao longo dos dias. Diante dessas descobertas, sugere-se aos futuros pesquisadores incorporar outros desafios na tomada de decisão, envolvendo uma formulação multi-objetivo ou métodos para revelar novos insights dentro do manejo e planejamento florestal.

ABSTRACT Scheduling problems are tasks of the operational routine in companies, which demand an optimal solution to support the decision. However, these problems have not been frequently investigated in forestry science. Therefore, it was proposed to describe a mathematical formulation for silviculture optimization under scheduling restriction of the workforce /sequencing of tasks (SSRCMM). Seeking the most suitable method to solve this combinatorial problem, two strategies were compared: i) Integer Linear Programming (ILP) and ii) simulated annealing (SA). The main criteria to assess strategies’ performance were to provide feasible solutions at an acceptable processing time and final project cost. The instance approached is a real problem outlined in 32 stands and five silvicultural tasks scheduled within a 40-day deadline. Three objective functions were also tested, defining case studies (S) to attend to the recurring managers’ decisions by minimizing: S1 – project cost, S2 – makespan, and S3 – workforce usage. The results reveal a robust model to support the forest planner in operational-level tasks. The ILP achieved the optimal solution only for the minimization of the project cost (S1) due to the delay in processing time of the other case studies. Thus, the SA stands out as an efficient method to solve the SSRCMM by providing satisfactory solutions in a reduced time. All the objective functions fitted properly with their proposed goals. The makespan and workforce usage functions increased by US$1,820.29 (S2) and US$2,146.39 (S3) from the S1, respectively, to finish the project earlier and reduce the oscillation of workforce usage over the days. Facing these findings, it is suggested that future researchers incorporate other challenges in decision-making, involving a multi-objective formulation or methods to reveal new insights for forest management and planning.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi aplicar o algoritmo “random forest” (RF) à modelagem do estoque de carbono acima do solo (CAS) de uma floresta tropical, por meio da testagem de três procedimentos de seleção de variáveis: remoção recursiva e algoritmos genéticos (AGs) uniobjetivo e multiobjetivo. Os dados utilizados abrangeram 1.007 parcelas amostradas na bacia hidrográfica do Rio Grande, no estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil, e 114 variáveis ambientais (climáticas, edáficas, geográficas, de terreno e espectrais). A melhor estratégia de seleção de variáveis – a RF com AG multiobjetivo – chega ao menor erro quadrático de 17,75 Mg ha-1 com apenas quatro variáveis espectrais – índice de umidade por diferença normalizada, textura de correlação do índice de queimada por razão normalizada 2, cobertura arbórea e fluxo de calor latente –, o que representa redução de 96,5% no tamanho do banco de dados. As estratégias de seleção de variáveis ajudam a obter melhor desempenho da RF, ao melhorar a acurácia e reduzir o volume dos dados. Embora a remoção recursiva e o AG multiobjetivo mostrem desempenho semelhante como estratégias de seleção de variáveis, esta último apresenta menor subconjunto de variáveis, com maior precisão. As descobertas deste trabalho destacam a importância do uso de infravermelho próximo, comprimentos de onda curtos e índices de vegetação derivados para a estimativa de CAS baseada em sensoriamento remoto. Os produtos MODIS mostram relação significativa com o estoque de CAS e precisam ser melhor explorados pela comunidade científica para a modelagem deste estoque.

Abstract The objective of this work was to apply the random forest (RF) algorithm to the modelling of the aboveground carbon (AGC) stock of a tropical forest by testing three feature selection procedures – recursive removal and the uniobjective and multiobjective genetic algorithms (GAs). The used database covered 1,007 plots sampled in the Rio Grande watershed, in the state of Minas Gerais state, Brazil, and 114 environmental variables (climatic, edaphic, geographic, terrain, and spectral). The best feature selection strategy – RF with multiobjective GA – reaches the minor root-square error of 17.75 Mg ha-1 with only four spectral variables – normalized difference moisture index, normalized burnratio 2 correlation text ure, treecover, and latent heat flux –, which represents a reduction of 96.5% in the size of the database. Feature selection strategies assist in obtaining a better RF performance, by improving the accuracy and reducing the volume of the data. Although the recursive removal and multiobjective GA showed a similar performance as feature selection strategies, the latter presents the smallest subset of variables, with the highest accuracy. The findings of this study highlight the importance of using near infrared, short wavelengths, and derived vegetation indices for the remote-sense-based estimation of AGC. The MODIS products show a significant relationship with the AGC stock and should be further explored by the scientific community for the modelling of this stock.

RESUMO Com o objetivo de reduzir os danos causados pela exploração madeireira na floresta amazônica, novas meta-heurísticas vem sendo implementadas e testadas para garantir a sustentabilidade desse segmento econômico. Assim, este trabalho tem como objetivo comparar alternativas para o dimensionamento de estradas e para alocação de pátios de estocagem de madeira. Em uma unidade de manejo florestal, o deslocamento da exploração de árvores para os pátios de estocagem de madeira foi avaliado em duas diferentes áreas. Para determinar a relação exploração de árvores / pátios de estocagem de madeira, pontos georreferenciados foram gerados igualmente espaçados a cada 50 m. Na área 1, o modelo de Programação Linear Inteira (ILP) e o Algoritmo Evolutivo Multiobjetivo (MOEA) foram comparados. Na área 2, apenas o MOEA foi considerado. Em ambas as áreas, esses modelos também foram comparados com o planejamento executado na unidade de manejo florestal. Soluções foram geradas para identificar a melhor alternativa de manejo. Em ambas as áreas, o MOEA apresentou maior eficiência quanto ao tempo de processamento, bem como na redução do número de pátios de estocagem de madeira e no dimensionamento das estradas. A abordagem evolutiva multiobjetivo auxilia o processo de tomada de decisão, devido à apresentação de alternativas baseadas em soluções Pareto-ótimas, tornando a escolha mais flexível e bem fundamentada.

ABSTRACT To reduce the damage caused by logging in the Amazon rainforest, new metaheuristics have been implemented and tested to ensure the sustainability of this economic segment. Therefore, this study aimed to compare alternatives for road sizing and log deck allocation. In a forest management unit, the skidding to log decks was evaluated in two different areas. To determine the skidding/log deck relation, georeferenced points were generated equally spaced every 50 m. In area 1, the Integer Linear Programming (ILP) model and the Multi-Objective Evolutionary Algorithm (MOEA) were compared. In area 2, only the MOEA was considered. In both areas, these models were also compared to the current planning used in the forest management unit. Solutions were then generated to identify the best management alternative. In both areas, the MOEA showed greater efficiency regarding the processing time, as well as the reduction of log decks number and the road sizing. The multi-objective evolutionary approach assists the decision-making process, due to the presentation of alternatives based on Pareto-optimal solutions, making the choice more flexible and well supported.

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi identificar as melhores regiões para alocação de fomentos florestais e sistemas de transporte mais eficientes, utilizando um modelo de programação matemática, para minimizar os custos de suprimento de madeira em três estados brasileiros. O fomento florestal é uma parceria entre produtores e empresas florestais, sem aquisição de terra por parte das empresas. Os produtores florestais são reconhecidos como uma importante fonte de plantio para a produção florestal. Para planejar parcerias bem-sucedidas, a empresa precisa planejar suas contratações. No presente estudo, foi considerado que as parcerias são realizadas por meio de contratos formais e que esse modelo de contratação não permite a quebra de contrato. Seis cenários foram modelados e avaliados com base no custo total da função objetivo, custo médio da madeira (USD/m3), distância média de transporte (km) e tempo de processamento. O modelo matemático mostrou sua eficiência, efetividade e flexibilidade na geração de cenários para apoiar os gestores da empresa nas tomadas de decisões e evitar quebras de contrato. O planejamento da contratação beneficia ambos os lados, pois garante a produção da empresa e fornece segurança financeira aos produtores florestais. Além disso, o modelo sugere alternativas como o preço da madeira diferenciado de acordo com a localização das regiões e a formação de blocos homogêneos de contratação/renovação de fomentos no entorno da fábrica de celulose.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to identify the best regions for allocation of a forestry outgrower scheme, and the most efficient transportation system, using a mathematical programming model to minimize the wood supply costs in three Brazilian states. The forest outgrower scheme is a partnership between producers and forest companies, without land acquisition by the companies. Forest producers are recognized as an important source of growth for forest production. In order to achieve successful partnerships, the company needs to plan its hiring. In this study, the partnerships are made through formal contracts and the model does not allow breach of contract. Six scenarios were modeled and evaluated based on the total cost of the objective function, average wood cost (USD/m3), average transport distance (km) and processing time. The mathematical model showed its efficiency, effectiveness, and flexibility in generating scenarios to support company managers in the decision-making and to avoid breach of contract. Hiring planning benefits both sides as it ensures the company’s production and provides financial security to forest producers. In addition, the model suggests alternatives such as the differential pricing of wood according to the location of the regions and the formation of homogeneous blocks of contracting/renewal of outgrower schemes around the pulp mill.

ABSTRACT Eremanthus erythropappus is a commercially-important tree which has a long history of exploitation in the Brazilian State of Minas Gerais. The knowledge on the potential geographical distribution of E. erythropappus is therefore critical for the species sustainability. Thus, the aim of this study was to estimate and map current and future ecological niche for E. erythropappus in Minas Gerais. We used the Random Forests algorithm to model the ecological niche for current and future climates scenarios. Our predictions indicate Espinhaço, Mantiqueira, and Canastra mountain ranges as core areas of distribution and forecast drastic reductions in potential areas under all climate scenarios. Based on our results, we highlight that the continual harvesting of naturally-occurring E. erythropappus populations will not be sufficient to supply the market demand. Silviculture practices would likely serve as an economically viable and ecological sustainable alternative to harvesting natural populations.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the growth of Eremanthus erythropappus (DC.) MacLeish submitted to different planting spacing and growth modelling based on the diameter and crown area projection, as well as to identify the best management strategy to be applied to control the competition, period and intensity of thinning. The evaluated planting spacings were: 1.5 × 1.5 m; 1.5 × 2.0 m; 1.5 × 2.5 m and 1.5 × 3.0 m. Diametric growth modelling in function of the age and crown area projection according to the mixed models methodology was efficient and the individual tree modelling allowed for defining a correct thinning prescription for tree plantations in relation to the percentage of removal needed at each spacing, thus permitting the trees to grow free from competition and produce trees with larger diameters.

ABSTRACT This research aims to identify the vulnerabilities of Rio Grande basin in Minas Gerais state as well as to investigate, through technical, legal, social, and governmental aspects, the relevance of SEA as an environmental tool for the conservation and preservation of watersheds. Rio Grande basin evaluation was performed by using this following database: soil classes, land use classification, water quality index, and economic ecological index. It was performed multi-criteria decision analysis based on analytic hierarchy process methodology. 52.5% of the studied area was classified as “good” preservation condition. Alto Grande (GD1), Mortes/Jacaré (GD2) and Furnas (GD3) units did not contain significant percentages of their areas corresponding to the preservation class “very good”. In the studied area, 34.51% was classified as “medium” preservation condition, thus indicating the need for effective measures for the river basin conservation. These findings highlight the potential importance of including the SEA in the decision-making process for plans, policies and programs related to the integrated management of water resources.

RESUMO A exploração de impacto reduzido é uma prática bem conhecida e aplicada na maioria dos planos de manejo florestal sustentável na Amazônia. Todavia, ainda há a possibilidade de melhoria do processo de planejamento da operação. Diante da falta de métodos auxiliares à tomada de decisão, o objetivo do trabalho foi desenvolver modelos de programação linear inteira (PLI) para suprir esta demanda. Considerou-se a minimização da distância entre as árvores exploradas e os pátios de estocagem de madeira. Aspectos estruturais, econômicos e produtivos foram incorporados ao modelo, bem como restrições de adjacência. Os dados derivam de uma floresta ombrófila densa na Amazônia Ocidental. Previamente, utilizou-se uma análise fitossociológica e o método BDq como critério de remoção. Posteriormente, modelos de PLI foram formulados para exemplificar as aplicações. Finalmente, 32 cenários (para floresta desbalaceada, UF, e floresta balanceada, BF) foram gerados e comparados com o plano executado no campo (RE). Resultados robustos foram obtidos e atenderam às expectativas de cada cenário. A viabilidade da integração dos modelos de PLI em projetos de manejo de florestas ineqüiâneas foi testado. Os cenários UF e BF testados foram eficientes e concisos, confirmando seu potencial para aumentar a eficiência de planos de exploração madeireira e manejo florestal na Amazônia.

ABSTRACT Reduced-impact logging is a well known practice applied in most sustainable forest management plans in the Amazon. Nevertheless, there are still ways to improve the operational planning process. Therefore, the aim of this study was to create an integer linear programming (ILP) to fill in the knowledge gaps in the decision support system of reduced impact logging explorations. The minimization of harvest tree distance to wood log landing was assessed. Forest structure aspects, income and wood production were set in the model, as well as the adjacency constraints. Data are from a dense ombrophylous forest in the western Brazilian Amazon. We applied the phytosociological analysis and BDq method to define the selective logging criteria. Then, ILP models were formulated to allow the application of the constraints. Finally, 32 scenarios (unbalanced forest, UF, and balanced forest, BF) were generated and compared with real executed plans (RE). Robust results were achieved and the expected finding of each scenario was met. The feasibility to integrate ILP models in uneven-aged forest management projects was endorsed. Consequently, the UF and BF scenarios tested were efficient and concise, introducing new advances for forest management plans in the Amazon. The proposed models have a high potential to improve the selective logging activities in the Amazon forest.

ABSTRACT The present study aims (a) to assess the correlations between forest stand characteristics (viz., basal area, dominant height, and volume) and the reflectance values derived from Landsat 5 TM spectral bands as well as from vegetation indices and (b) to understand how Eucalyptus sp. stand age influences these correlations. Sampling data comprised a set of 35 permanent plots from a forest inventory conducted annually between 2006 and 2011. Spectral data were derived from Landsat 5 TM images. The results showed that TM4 and TM5 spectral bands, as well as vegetation indices ND54 and TM5/4, were better correlated with basal area and volume, while the TM2 spectral band was better correlated with dominant height. Eucalyptus sp. stand age directly influenced the correlations between spectral data and forest stand characteristics, and could not be disregarded in the spectral characterization of the forest variables.

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar a rotação econômica de plantações de eucalipto em três diferentes sítios produtivos sob condições de risco. Os dados utilizados na realização do estudo são provenientes de plantios equiâneos e monoclonais do híbrido Eucalyptus urograndis, e cedidos pela empresa Fibria Celulose. Além dos dados de produção das áreas foram também cedidas as informações de fluxo de caixa. Para a análise de risco utilizou-se o método de Monte Carlo, tendo como resultado da simulação o Valor Presente Líquido para séries Infinitas e, como variáveis de entrada e/ou fontes de incertezas, as distribuições de probabilidade referentes ao preço da terra e da madeira, o custo de colheita e transporte, a taxa de juros e além da produção de madeira. A simulação constituiu na realização 10.000 de iterações, em que foram obtidas as informações necessárias ao prosseguimento das análises. Concluiu-se que a rotação ótima para corte foi de 6, 8 e 11 anos nos sítios bom (I), médio (II) e ruim (III), respectivamente, sendo, portanto, condizente com as leis biológicas de crescimento. Conclui-se ainda que sob as mesmas condições de manejo, sítios mais produtivos geram maior retorno econômico e por consequência menor risco em cenários econômicos desfavoráveis.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to determine the economic cycle rotation of eucalyptus plantations in three productivity sites over hazardous conditions. The data used on this study, released by the company Fibria Celulose. Besides the timber production data, it was also given the company cash flow. It was from an even- aged stand and a monoclonal stand both of Eucalyptus urograndis. For the risk analysis, the study used Monte Carlo method, having as a result of the simulation the Net Present Value for Infinite Series, using as an input variable and/or source of uncertainty, the probability distributions of the land and wood prices, the costs of harvesting and transportation activities, the interest rate and also the timber production. The simulation consisted in carrying out 10,000 interactions, where it was obtained the necessary information for the development of the next analysis. As a conclusion the optimal rotation for cutting was 6, 8 and 11 years on the good sites (I), regular sites(II) and poor sites(III) respectively, being consistent with the biological laws of growth. Another conclusion is that even under the same management conditions, more productive sites generate greater economic returns and therefore lower risk in adverse economic scenarios.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar a distribuição potencial de 23 espécies pioneiras no Estado de Minas Gerias, além de identificar as variáveis ambientais que influenciam as suas distribuições. O algoritmo Maxent foi escolhido para relacionar a ocorrência de espécies às seguintes variáveis bioclimáticas: variação diurna de temperatura, isotermalidade, sazonalidade da temperatura, precipitação do mês mais seco, sazonalidade da precipitação (coeficiente de variação) e evapotranspiração real. Também foram avaliados índice de vegetação por diferença normalizada (NDVI), grau de conservação da flora e heterogeneidade espacial de fitofisionomias, bem como erodibilidade (suscetibilidade do solo à erosão), disponibilidade de água subterrânea, textura do solo, teor de matéria orgânica, ocorrência mineral (espécies minerais existentes por unidade litológica), mapa pedológico simplificado, declividade e altitude. A espécie Anadenanthera colubrina foi a mais indicada para o bioma Caatinga, seguida de Casearia sylvestris e Plathymenia reticulata, indicadas para o bioma Mata Atlântica e Cerrado, respectivamente. Recomenda-se utilizar o Maxent como ferramenta para orientar os planos de conservação que necessitam de indicação de espécies, para recuperar áreas de vegetação degradadas ou desmatadas.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to determine the potential distribution of 23 pioneer species in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, as well as to identify the environmental variables that influence their distributions. The Maxent algorithm was chosen to associate the occurrence of species with the following bioclimatic variables: diurnal temperature variation, isothermality, temperature seasonality, driest month precipitation, precipitation seasonality (coefficient of variation), and actual evapotranspiration. The normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), flora conservation status, and the spatial heterogeneity of vegetation types were also evaluated, besides erodibility (susceptibility of soil to erosion), groundwater availability, soil texture, organic matter content, mineral occurrence (existing mineral species by lithological unit), pedological simplified map, slope and altitude. The species Anadenanthera colubrina was the most suitable for the Caatinga biome, followed by Casearia sylvestris and Plathymenia reticulate, indicated for the Atlantic Forest and the Cerrado biomes, respectively. The use of Maxent is recommended as a tool to guide conservation plans that require the indication of species, aiming to recover degraded or deforested vegetation areas.

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a continuidade espacial ao longo do tempo (para 5 idades consecutivas) das características dendrométricas altura dominante média, volume e incremento médio anual em povoamentos clonais de Eucalyptus sp no estado de Minas Geais. A área foi plantada em 2003, perfazendo um total de 1.072,6 hectares. Os dados foram oriundos de um conjunto de 116 parcelas permanentes, onde foi realizado inventário florestal sucessivo entre os anos de 2006 e 2010. Aos semivariogramas experimentais, foram ajustados os modelos esférico, exponencial e gaussiano pelo Método dos Mínimos Quadrados Ponderados, para cada idade, selecionando-se o mais adequado com base no erro médio reduzido e desvio padrão do erro médio reduzido da validação cruzada. O comportamento dos semivariogramas foram comparados entre as respectivas medições com base no plotagem dos mesmos de forma escalonada, permitindo avaliar se a estrutura espacial foi alterada com a idade do plantio. O modelo exponencial apresentou-se como o de melhor ajuste e todas as características apresentaram-se estruturadas espacialmente, com os modelos espaciais sendo semelhantes entre as idades do povoamento e para as características estudadas. Foi possível verificar que o grau de continuidade espacial se manteve ao longo dos anos para as características avaliadas e que o semivariograma escalonado demonstrou que a estrutura espacial das características é semelhante entre as diferentes idades do povoamento. Os resultados evidenciam que a utilização de métodos geoestatísticos para avaliar o crescimento de povoamentos de eucalipto ao longo do tempo, consiste de uma importante ferramenta de planejamento, permitindo um melhor acompanhamento e uma predição mais precisa do volume de madeira da floresta, levando em consideração a estrutura de dependência espacial.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the spatial continuity of the dendrometric characteristics average dominant height, volume and mean annual increment, throughout five different continuous ages. The experimental area was planted in 2003, accounting for 1,072.6 hectares. The data sets were derived from 116 permanent plots where successive forest inventory was carried out between 2006 and 2010. Using least squares weighted method, spherical, exponential and gaussian semivariogram models were fitted to the experimental semivariogram. To select the best model, reduced average error and standard deviation of the mean reduced error were analyzed. The spatial continuity assessment at along the time was carried out by comparison of the scaled semivariograms plotted considering the data sets from each age. Exponential semivariogram model has presented the best fitting and all the dendrometric characteristics has presented spatial continuity. The evaluated models were similar for each age and the studied characteristics as well. The results obtained with this study show that the use of geostatistical procedures to evaluate the growth of the trees throughout the time is an important planning tool, allowing a better management and prediction of wood volume in the forest.

O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar a evolução da área minerada no Quadrilátero Ferrífero (QF), Minas Gerais, e quantificar a área coberta com vegetação florestal nativa que foi suprimida por esta atividade durante os últimos 26 anos. Foram utilizadas imagens TM/Landsat 5 correspondente a área de estudo nos anos de 1985, 1989, 2000 e 2011. Para cada ano de análise, utilizando técnicas de interpretação visual de imagens, foram criados polígonos identificando e delimitando as áreas mineradas. Para a análise da supressão da vegetação florestal nativa pela mineração, as imagens de 1985 foram classificadas gerando um mapa temático de uso e cobertura do solo do QF. Em seguida, os polígonos de mineração identificados em cada ano de análise foram sobrepostos ao mapa da vegetação nativa possibilitando o cálculo da área de vegetação florestal nativa suprimida pela expansão da mineração. Entre os anos de 1985 a 2011, observou-se aumento de 213% na área minerada no QF. As áreas suprimidas de vegetação florestal nativa entre os anos de 1985 a 1989, 1989 a 2000 e 2000 a 2011 corresponderam respectivamente a 324,42 ha, 948,98 ha e 1989,68 ha, com uma perda total de vegetação nativa de 3.263,07 ha.

This study aimed at analyzing the evolution of the mined area in the Quadrilátero Ferrífero (QF) region, Minas Gerais state, Brazil, as well as to quantify the area covered by native forest that has been removed by mining activities during the last 26 years. TM/Landsat5 images from 1985, 1989, 2000 and 2011 were used. For each year of analysis, polygons of mined areas were detected and delimited using visual image interpretation techniques. For the analysis of the area covered by native forest suppressed by mining activities, a land cover and land use map of the QF region was provided, by using images from 1985. Native forest areas suppressed by mining expansion were calculated overlaying the thematic map and the mining polygons for each year of analysis. Taking into account the period from 1985 to 2011 there was an increase of 213% in the mined area. The areas of native forest removed throughout the years 1985-1989, 1989-2000 and 2000-2011 were respectively equal to 324.42 ha, 948.98 ha and 1,989.68 ha, with a total loss of 3,263.07 ha.

Diferentes alturas de medição do diâmetro das árvores são apresentadas na literatura, o que pode levar, em alguns casos, a diferentes resultados nas estimativas finais, se o modelo utilizado não for compatível com a altura de medição do diâmetro. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar e validar equações de volume e biomassa, ajustadas pela Goal Programming e por regressão através do Método dos Mínimos Quadrados Ordinários, para o Cerrado Sensu Stricto e Campo Cerrado de Minas Gerais, utilizando informações de diâmetros mensurados a 0,10; 0,30 e 1,30 metros em relação ao nível do solo. Para tanto, foram cubadas rigorosamente 868 árvores em áreas de cerrado Sensu Stricto e campo cerrado de Minas Gerais. Posteriormente foram ajustados 2 diferentes modelos, sendo um de dupla entrada com diâmetro medido nas diferentes alturas e altura total e o segundo somente com diâmetro. Os resultados mostraram que a altura de tomada dos diâmetros pode influenciar na precisão dos modelos, sendo o diâmetro medido a 1,30 m o que apresenta melhores ajustes com estimativas mais precisas. Foi possível gerar uma equação que pode servir de suporte na fiscalização de áreas desmatadas, utilizando diâmetro do toco (0,10 cm do solo).

Different tree diameter measuring heights are displayed in the literature, which in some cases can lead to different results in the final estimates, if the model used is not compatible with the diameter measurement height. The aim of this study was to evaluate and validate equations of volume and biomass, adjusted by Goal Programming and regression by Ordinary Least Squares Method for the Cerrado Sensu Stricto and Campo Cerrado in Minas Gerais state, using information on diameters measured at 0. 10, 0.30 and 1.30 meters from the ground level. Thus, we rigorously scaled 868 trees in areas of Cerrado Sensu Stricto and Campo Cerrado of Minas Gerais. Two different models were subsequently adjusted, one being dual input with the diameter measured at different heights and total height and the second with only the diameter. The results showed that the height where the diameter was taken may influence the accuracy of the models, the diameter measured at 1.30 m presenting the best fits with more accurate estimates. It was possible to generate an equation that can support the monitoring of deforested areas, using the stump diameter (0.10 cm from the soil).

RESUMO Os impactos gerados na paisagem após a colheita florestal em reflorestamentos são visíveis, porém, o corte raso é um processo necessário para garantir uma produção sustentada e introduzir novas tecnologias. Uma alternativa de controle é utilizar restrições de adjacência nos modelos matemáticos. Assim, o objetivo do estudo foi avaliar a capacidade da meta-heurística SA na resolução de modelos matemáticos com restrições de adjacência do tipo URM, e observar sua ação com o aumento da complexidade do problema. O estudo foi conduzido em um projeto florestal contendo 52 talhões, sendo criados 8 cenários, onde o modelo I de Johnson e Scheurmann (1977) foi usado como referência. A restrição de adjacência do tipo URM foi usada para controlar o corte de talhões adjacentes. Os modelos foram resolvidos pela PLI e meta-heurística SA, no qual foi processada 100 vezes/cenário. Os resultados mostraram que o cenário 8 consumiu 137.530 segundos via PLI, gastando um tempo de 2.023,09 vezes a mais que o tempo médio de processamento da meta- heurística SA (67,98 segundos). As melhores soluções ficaram 4,71 % (cenário 1) a 11,40 % (cenário 8) distante do ótimo (PLI). A meta-heurística SA é capaz de resolver o problema florestal, atendendo às metas na maioria das vezes. O aumento da complexidade produz um maior desvio em relação ao ótimo. Conclui- se que a meta-heurística SA não deve ser processada uma única vez, pois há riscos de se obter soluções inferiores, caso seja feita, deve-se aumentar o tempo de parada.

ABSTRACT The impacts on the landscape after forest harvesting in reforestation are visible, but the cutting is a necessary process to ensure a sustained yield and introduce new technologies. An alternative of control is to use the adjacency constraints in the mathematical models. Thus, the aim of the study was to assess the ability of the metaheuristic SA to solve mathematical models with adjacency constraints type URM, and to check its action with the increasing of the problem complexity. The study was conducted in a forest project containing 52 stands, and created 8 scenarios, where the Johnson and Scheurmann (1977) model I was used as reference. The adjacency constraint type URM was used to control the cutting of adjacent stands. The models were solved by the ILP and metaheuristic SA, which was sued 100 times per scenario. The results showed that the scenario 8 has consumed 137,530 seconds via PLI, which represented 2,023.09 times more than the average time processing of the SA metaheuristic (67.98 seconds). The best solutions were 4.71 % (scenario 1) to 11.40 % (scenario 8) far from the optimal (ILP). The metaheuristic SA is capable to solve the forest problem, meeting the targets in the most cases. The increasing of complexity produced a higher deviation from the optimal. Concludes that the metaheuristic SA should not be processed a single time, because there are hazards in obtain inferior solutions, but doing it is recommended to increase the stop criterion.
