RESUMO Objetivo: Inquérito nacional de cobertura vacinal aos 12 e 24 meses de idade foi realizado para investigar as quedas nas coberturas a partir de 2016. Métodos: Amostra de 37.836 nascidos vivos das coortes de 2017 e 2018 residentes nas capitais, Distrito Federal (DF) e 12 cidades com mais de 100 mil habitantes, acompanhados nos primeiros 24 meses por registros nas cadernetas de vacinação. Setores censitários foram estratificados segundo condições socioeconômicas, e o mesmo número de crianças foi incluído para cada estrato. Calcularem-se coberturas vacinais de cada vacina e coberturas completas aos 12 e 24 meses, doses aplicadas, válidas e oportunas. Fatores familiares, maternos e da criança associados à cobertura foram pesquisados. Os motivos para não vacinar analisados foram: contraindicações médicas, dificuldades de acesso, problemas no funcionamento do programa e hesitação vacinal. Resultados: Os resultados preliminares mostram que menos de 1% das crianças não foram vacinadas, as coberturas pelo esquema completo são menores que 75% em todas as capitais e no DF, as vacinas com mais de uma dose perdem cobertura progressivamente, há diferenças entre os estratos socioeconômicos, favoráveis aos estratos mais altos em algumas cidades e aos estratos mais baixos em outras. Conclusão: Houve realmente redução da cobertura vacinal em todas as capitais e no DF para as crianças nascidas em 2017 e 2018, denotando piora na execução do Programa Nacional de Imunizações durante os anos de 2017 a 2019. O inquérito realizado não mensurou os impactos da pandemia de COVID-19 que podem ter reduzido ainda mais as coberturas vacinais.

ABSTRACT Objective: The national vaccination coverage survey on full vaccination at 12 and 24 months of age was carried out to investigate drops in coverage as of 2016. Methods: A sample of 37,836 live births from the 2017 or 2018 cohorts living in capital cities, the Federal District, and 12 inner cities with 100 thousand inhabitants were followed for the first 24 months through vaccine record cards. Census tracts stratified according to socioeconomic levels had the same number of children included in each stratum. Coverage for each vaccine, full vaccination at 12 and 24 months and number of doses administered, valid and timely, were calculated. Family, maternal and child factors associated with coverage were surveyed. The reasons for not vaccinating analyzed were: medical contraindications, access difficulties, problems with the program, and vaccine hesitancy. Results: Preliminary results showed that less than 1% of children were not vaccinated, full coverage was less than 75% at all capitals and the Federal District, vaccines requiring more than one dose progressively lost coverage, and there were inequalities among socioeconomic strata, favorable to the highest level in some cities and to the lowest in others. Conclusion: There was an actual reduction in full vaccination in all capitals and the Federal District for children born in 2017 and 2018, showing a deteriorating implementation of the National Immunization Program from 2017 to 2019. The survey did not measure the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, which may have further reduced vaccination coverage.

Resumen: Introducción: la sífilis congénita es una entidad grave, que ocurre en recién nacidos de gestantes con sífilis no tratada o tratada inadecuadamente, que puede conducir a resultados adversos en el feto como abortos, óbitos, partos prematuros, bajo peso al nacer, infecciones sistémicas graves y muerte. Constituye un importante problema de salud pública a pesar de la disponibilidad de intervenciones costo-efectivas para evitar la transmisión materno fetal. Objetivos: determinar la prevalencia de sífilis gestacional e incidencia de sífilis congénita en el Centro Hospitalario Pereira Rossell en el periodo marzo 2020 - marzo 2021, año en el que se declaró la pandemia por COVID-19. Material y métodos: se realizó un estudio observacional, descriptivo en al cual fueron incluidas las mujeres embarazadas con diagnóstico de sífilis gestacional y neonatos con sífilis congénita. Resultados: se registró una prevalencia de sífilis gestacional de 27,5/1000 embarazadas y una incidencia de sífilis congénita de 1,37/1000 nacidos vivos. De los 161 recién nacidos 78 (48,4%) fueron considerados de alto riesgo de sífilis connatal por lo cual recibieron tratamiento y su internación se prolongó. Se observó un alto porcentaje de embarazos mal controlados y un bajo nivel de tratamiento a las parejas sexuales. Conclusiones: la prevalencia de sífilis gestacional en el Centro Hospitalario Pereira Rossell, en el período marzo 2020-marzo 2021, año de la pandemia por COVID-19; fue de 27,5/1000 embarazadas. Se confirmó aumento de la prevalencia con respecto al 20,8% reportado anteriormente. La incidencia de SC fue de 1,37/1000 nacidos vivos. Concomitante se observó una disminución en el control del embarazo y escaso tratamiento de las parejas sexuales. Se constata que aumentó el porcentaje de neonatos con alto riesgo de padecer sífilis connatal.

Summary: Introduction: syphilis is a preventable and treatable sexually transmitted disease that is a major public health problem. Transmission to the fetus, congenital syphilis, is serious and it is also the cause of abortions and deaths. Early and timely maternal diagno sis is a fundamental prevention tool. Objectives: to determine the prevalence of gestational syphilis and the incidence of congenital syphilis in the Pereira Rossell Hospital Center in the period March 2020-March 2021, the year in which the COVID-19 pandemic was declared. Material and Methods: an observational, descriptive study was carried out in which pregnant women diagnosed with gestational syphilis and neonates with congenital syphilis were included. Results: a prevalence of gestational syphilis of 27.5/1000 pregnant women and an incidence of congenital syphilis of 1.37/1000 live births were recorded of the 161 newborns, 78 (48.4%) of the neonates were considered to be at high risk of connatal syphilis, for which they received treatment and their hospital stay was prolonged. A high percentage of poorly controlled pregnancies and a low level of treatment for sexual partners were observed. Conclusions: the prevalence of gestational syphilis maintained an upward trend at the Pereira Rossell Hospital Center during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, mainly due to a significant decrease in pregnancy control, poor treatment of sexual partners and a high percentage of patients at high risk of unconfirmed connatal syphilis. After the first year of the COVID-19 Pandemic this rising trend still remains.

Resumo: Introduccción: a sífilis é uma doença sexualmente transmissível, prevenível e tratável, que constitui um importante problema de saúde pública. Sua transmissão para o feto constitui uma entidade grave, a sífilis congênita, que é a causa de abortos e mortes. O diagnóstico materno precoce e oportuno é uma ferramenta fundamental de prevenção. Objetivos: determinar a prevalência de sífilis gestacional e incidência de sífilis congênita no Centro Hospitalar Pereira Rossell no período de março de 2020 a março de 2021, ano em que foi declarada a pandemia de COVID-19. Materiais e métodos: foi realizado um estudo observacional, descritivo, no qual foram incluídas gestantes com diagnóstico de sífilis gestacional e neonatos com sífilis congênita. Resultados: houve prevalência de sífilis gestacional de 27,5/1000 gestantes e incidência de sífilis congênita de 1,37/1000 nascidos vivos. Dos 161 recém nascidos, 78 (48,4%) dos neonatos foram considerados de alto risco para sífilis conatal para os quais receberam tratamento e sua internação foi prolongada. Observouse elevado percentual de gestações mal controladas e baixo nível de tratamento dos parceiros sexuais. Conclusões: a prevalência de sífilis gestacional no Centro Hospitalar Pereira Rossell no primeiro ano da pandemia de COVID-19 manteve a tendência ascendente, maiormente devido à diminuição significativa do controle da gravidez, mau tratamento dos parceiros sexuais e alta porcentagem de pacientes com alto risco de sífilis congênita não confirmada. A tendência ascendente ainda continua depois do primeiro ano da pandemia.

RESUMO Este caso para ensino apresenta o posicionamento estratégico do grupo Magazine Luiza (Magalu), representado pelo diretor de relações institucionais José Ribeiro e Luiza Helena Trajano, presidente do Conselho de Administração, antes e durante a COVID-19. O objetivo é promover uma reflexão sobre as estratégias empresariais adotadas em tempos de crise. Desde o início da COVID-19 no Brasil, Luiza e o Magalu engajaram-se nas discussões e praticaram uma série de ações estratégicas em benefício dos funcionários do grupo, das pequenas e médias empresas e dos mais afetados pela pandemia. Passados alguns meses dos primeiros casos, a instabilidade ainda era percebida, o número de infectados e mortes subia e pouco se sabia sobre quando o cotidiano retornaria ao ‘normal’. Muitos questionamentos persistiam sobre os próximos passos do Magalu. Assim, era necessário discutir sobre como o grupo deveria se posicionar para assegurar seu desempenho e sua reputação. A proposta é que os alunos se coloquem no lugar de José Ribeiro, diretor de relações institucionais, e do comitê de assuntos urgentes do Magalu, a fim de propiciar um debate acerca das estratégias de mercado e de não mercado que poderiam ser implementadas.

ABSTRACT This teaching case presents the strategic positioning of the Magazine Luiza group (Magalu), represented by the director of institutional relations José Ribeiro and Luiza Helena Trajano, chairman of the Board of Directors, before and during COVID-19. The case’s objective is to promote a reflection on the business strategies adopted in times of crisis. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil, Luiza and Magalu have engaged in discussions and practiced a series of strategic actions for the benefit of the group’s employees, small- and medium-sized companies, and those most affected by the pandemic. A few months after the first case, the instability was still perceived, it was still present, the number of infected and deaths rose and little was known about when the daily life would return to ‘normal.’ Many questions persisted about Magalu’s next steps. Thus, it was necessary to discuss how the group should position itself to ensure performance and reputation. The proposal is to make students put themselves in the place of José Ribeiro, director of institutional relations and the urgent affairs commission of Magalu, in order to encourage a debate about the market and non-market strategies that could be implemented.

Abstract The replacement of dehydrated products such as whey protein concentrates and isolates (WPC and WPI) by liquid whey protein concentrates (LWPC) obtained by ultrafiltration can be an excellent alternative for the production of innovative dairy products. Thus, the aim of this work is to study the gelation properties of LWPC as raw material for acid-induced dairy gels. Acid-induced gels were produced with non-defatted LWPC, with or without fortification with skimmed milk powder (SMP), by bacterial fermentation and by glucono-δ-lactone (GDL) acidification. The fermented systems (yogurt type acid gels) produced weaker gel structures than the equivalent chemically acidified gels (dessert type acid gels). It was also observed that molecular rearrangement continues during cold storage and that fortification with SMP favoured gelation. Whey-based dairy gels obtained by fermentation or by glucono-δ-lactone acidification presented viscoelastic behaviour, appealing functional and nutritional properties, and their utilization can effectively contribute to the reduction of waste.

ABSTRACT Different spatial and temporal factors can influence the species richness and abundance of leaf anurans that are fundamental for the ecosystem functioning, as they act as predators and integrate the trophic chain as prey of other animals. There are relatively few studies that aimed to understand the spatio-temporal variation and the influence of environmental factors on leaf litter communities. We studied parameters of the anuran community living in the forest leaf litter in the Duas Bocas Biological Reserve (DBBR), Espírito Santo, Brazil. We sought to understand the extent to which richness, abundance, biomass and density varied between two locations with different stages of preservation (primary and secondary forest). In addition, we tested the effect of temperature and local humidity on abundance. We conducted the samplings monthly from October 2017 to September 2018, establishing 98 4 x 4 m plots (16 m2 each) demarcated on the DBBR forest leaf litter. We measured temperature (°C) and relative air humidity (%), and each plot was carefully surveyed by four observers. We tested for differences in anuran density between the two sampled locations and estimated the effects of environmental variables in the community. We recorded 102 individuals of anurans from 11 species belonging to eight families. The DBBR anuran community parameters significantly differed between the two studied locations, with the highest values of anuran richness and abundance occurring in the area covered by primary forest, probably due to differences in the preservation of each area. However, temperature and humidity did not affect the abundance of anurans in the sampled areas. Our results provide the first information about spatial variation and influence of environmental factors, directed to the community of leaf litter anurans in DBBR, and represents the second study on this group of anurans in the state of Espírito Santo.

Abstract This study compares the prevalence of overweight and obesity between WHO/IOTF criteria. A total of 17,277 Portuguese children aged 3-10 years old were analysed. The prevalences of overweight-obesity were higher at WHO classification (19.8%-20.7%) than at IOTF classification (8.2%-16.1%), (p<0.001). Agreement between the criteria were substantial for overweight (Kappa= 0.67, p<0.001) and moderate for obesity (Kappa= 0.47, p<0.001). The prevalences ratio for inequality between criteria were greater for boys than for girls and lesser for children aged 6-7 than children aged 8-10 years old. The disparities between the two criteria and the higher overweight obesity prevalences highlight the needs to develop more studies.

RESUMO O artigo busca investigar o problema das falhas de coordenação no âmbito da política de Ensino Fundamental do Brasil. Os autores assumem que a migração de alunos entre redes municipais e estaduais ao longo do Ensino Fundamental pode ser considerada uma proxy de falha de coordenação no âmbito dessa política, com reflexos negativos nos termos do desempenho escolar. A análise empírica apresentada, baseada em um painel longitudinal de municípios para o período de 2007 a 2011, mostra que a transferência de alunos entre redes faz com que a evolução das notas entre o 5o e o 9o ano seja 3,6 pontos menor em Português e 5,3 pontos menor em Matemática, segundo a escala da Prova Brasil.

ABSTRACT The article seeks to investigate the problem of coordination failures within the framework of the Brazilian primary education policy. The authors assume that the migration of students between the municipal and state school systems throughout Elementary School can be considered a proxy for coordination failure within the framework of this policy, with negative consequences in terms of school performance. The empirical analysis presented, based on a longitudinal panel of municipalities for the period of 2007 to 2011, shows that the transfer of students between systems has an impact on the evolution of grades, which between the 5th and 9th grades is 3.6 points lower in Portuguese and 5.3 points lower in Mathematics, according to the scale of the so-called Prova Brasil (test that evaluates Brazilian public education).

RESUMEN El artículo pretende investigar el problema de las fallas de coordinación en el ámbito de la política de Enseñanza Fundamental en Brasil. Los autores asumen que la migración de alumnos entre redes municipales y estaduales a lo largo de la Enseñanza Fundamental, puede ser considerada una proxy de falla de coordinación en el ámbito de esa política, con reflejos negativos en términos del desempeño escolar. El análisis empírico presentado, basado en un panel longitudinal de municipios para el periodo de 2007 a 2011, muestra que la transferencia de alumnos entre redes hace que a evolución de las notas entre el 5o y el 9o año sea de 3,6 pontos menos en Portugués y 5,3 pontos menos en Matemática, según la escala de la Prueba Brasil.

RÉSUMÉ L’article cherche à examiner le problème des défaillances de la coordination dans le cadre de la politique concernant à l’Enseignement Fondamental brésilien. Les auteurs partent du principe que la migration des élèves entre les réseaux publiques des municipes et des états, au cours de l’Enseignemant Fondamental, peut être considérée comme un indicateur de l’échec de la coordination dans le cadre de cette politique, en arrivant à conséquences négatives sur les résultats scolaires. L’analyse empirique présentée, basée sur un panel longitudinal de municipalités pour la période 2007-2011, montre que le transfert d’étudiants entre les années détermine que l’évolution des notes dans les segments de la 5ème et de la 9ème années soit inférieure à 3,6 points, dans la discipline de langue portugaise, et à 5,3 points plus bas dans les mathématiques, selon l’échelle de Prova Brasil.

ABSTRACT Background: The venom of Phoneutria nigriventer spider is a source of numerous bioactive substances, including some toxins active in insects. An example is PnTx4(5-5) that shows a high insecticidal activity and no apparent toxicity to mice, although it inhibited NMDA-evoked currents in rat hippocampal neurons. In this work the analgesic activity of PnTx4(5-5) (renamed Γ-ctenitoxin-Pn1a) was investigated. Methods: The antinociceptive activity was evaluated using the paw pressure test in rats, after hyperalgesia induction with intraplantar injection of carrageenan or prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). Results: PnTx4(5-5), subcutaneously injected, was able to reduce the hyperalgesia induced by PGE2 in rat paw, demonstrating a systemic effect. PnTx4(5-5) administered in the plantar surface of the paw caused a peripheral and dose-dependent antinociceptive effect on hyperalgesia induced by carrageenan or PGE2. The hyperalgesic effect observed in these two pain models was completely reversed with 5 µg of PnTx4(5-5). Intraplantar administration of L-glutamate induced hyperalgesic effect that was significantly reverted by 5 μg of PnTx4(5-5) injection in rat paw. Conclusion: The antinociceptive effect for PnTx4(5-5) was demonstrated against different rat pain models, i.e. induced by PGE2, carrageenan or glutamate. We suggest that the antinociceptive effect of PnTx4(5-5) may be related to an inhibitory activity on the glutamatergic system.

RESUMO Objetivo: Determinar o perfil das crianças de 6 a 12 anos de idade, com relação à ansiedade frente ao tratamento odontológico e avaliar os principais fatores desencadeadores de ansiedade nesta população. Métodos: A amostra foi composta por 200 crianças com idade média de 8,5 anos que frequentaram a Clínica-Escola de Odontologia da Universidade Federal de Campina Grande e as Unidades Básicas de Saúde da Família do município de Patos-PB entre junho de 2015 e maio de 2016. A ansiedade foi avaliada utilizando a Dental Anxiety Scale e o Venham Picture Test. O teste Qui-Quadrado e Exato de Fisher foram usados para explorar o nível de significância das associações entre as variáveis. Resultados: A ansiedade foi observada na maioria das crianças (Dental Anxiety Scale - 89% e Venham Picture Test - 70,5%) e os níveis predominantes foram baixo e moderado. A faixa etária da criança foi associada significativamente à ansiedade (p=0,014) através do teste Venham Picture Test, ao passo que o gênero não apresentou essa correlação. A ansiedade sofreu influência de todos os fatores estudados: marcação da consulta, sala de espera, caneta odontológica e raspagem periodontal. Conclusão: A maioria das crianças apresentou ansiedade e os fatores desencadeadores marcação da consulta, sala de espera, caneta odontológica e raspagem periodontal atuaram consideravelmente para o seu desenvolvimento.

ABSTRACT Objective: To determine the profile of children from 6 to 12 years of age, in relation to anxiety towards dental treatment and evaluate the main factors that trigger anxiety in this population. Methods: The sample was composed of 200 children with an average age of 8.5 years who attended the Clinic of the School of Dentistry of the Federal University of Campina Grande and the Basic Healthcare Units of the municipality of Patos, Paraíba, Brazil between June 2015 and May 2016. Anxiety was assessed using the Dental Anxiety Scale and the Venham Picture Test. The Chi-Square test and Fisher’s exact test were used to explore the level of significance of the associations between the variables Results: Anxiety was observed in the majority of children (Dental Anxiety Scale - 89% and Venham Picture Test - 70.5%) and the predominant levels were low to moderate. The child´s age group was significantly associated with anxiety (p=0.014) by the Venham Picture Test, while gender did not present this correlation. Anxiety was influenced by all the factors studied: making the appointment, waiting room, rotary instrument and periodontal scaling. Conclusion: The majority of children presented anxiety and the trigger factors: making the appointment, waiting room, rotary instrument and periodontal scaling contributed considerably to its development.

Resumo Alexitimia é um traço de personalidade caracterizado pelas dificuldades na identificação e descrição dos sentimentos. Alguns pesquisadores descrevem altos índices de alexitimia em pacientes com esclerose múltipla (EM), porém os dados na literatura são escassos. Objetivo: O objetivo do presente estudo foi caracterizar achados de alexitimia em pacientes com EM. Métodos: Este estudo transversal incluiu 180 pacientes com EM e um grupo controle pareado. Dados de pacientes com EM incluíram a duração da doença, número de surtos clínicos de desmielinização e grau de incapacidade neurológica avaliados pela Escala Expandida do Grau de Incapacidade (EDSS). Foram também utilizadas a escala Hospitalar de Ansiedade e Depressão (HAD) e a escala de Alexitimia de Toronto (TAS) foram utilizadas. Resultados: Cada grupo era constituído por 126 mulheres e 54 homens, com mediana de idade de 37 anos e mediana de escolaridade de 16 anos. Pacientes com EM apresentaram maior grau de depressão (p<0.01), ansiedade (p=0.01) e alexitimia (p<0.01) que os controles. Para pessoas com EM, traços depressivos (p<0.01), ansiosos (p=0.03), maior idade (p=0.02), menor nível educacional (p=0.02), maior grau de incapacidade (p<0.01) e o fato de não estar ativamente trabalhando (p=0.03) levaram a maiores níveis de alexitimia. Conclusão: Alexitimia foi um importante achado em pacientes com EM.

Abstract Alexithymia is a personality trait characterized by difficulties identifying and describing feelings. Some researchers describe high levels of alexithymia among patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) but literature data on this subject are scarce. Objective: The objective of the present study was to characterize findings of alexithymia in patients with MS. Methods: This cross-sectional case-control study included 180 patients with MS and a matched control group. Data for patients with MS included disease duration, number of demyelinating relapses and degree of neurological disability, as assessed by the Expanded Disability Scale Score (EDSS). In addition, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression (HAD) scale and the Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS) were used. Results: There were 126 women and 54 men in each group, with median age of 37 years and median education of 16 years. Patients with MS had higher degrees of depression (p<0.01), anxiety (p=0.01) and alexithymia (p<0.01) than did control subjects. For individuals with MS, depressive traits (p<0.01), anxious traits (p=0.03), higher age (p=0.02), lower education level (p=0.02), higher degree of disability (p<0.01) and not being actively employed (p=0.03) were associated with higher rates of alexithymia. Conclusion: Alexithymia was a relevant finding in patients with MS.

Objetivo: Reflexionar sobre el impacto del dolor crónico en la vida de las personas y en los cuidados de enfermería en el proceso. Metodología: Ensayo reflexivo, el cual se fundamentó en una revisión teórica. El estudio se realizó entre los meses de mayo de 2015 a julio de 2016. Los datos se analizaron y luego se organizaron en los siguientes ejes temáticos: El impacto del dolor crónico sobre la calidad de vida de las personas, El dolor como quinta señal vital: la importancia de su evaluación y Cuidados de enfermería a los pacientes con dolor crónico. Resultados: El dolor impacta de varias formas en la vida de las personas y, cuando este síntoma se vuelve crónico, repercute más intensamente en la calidad de vida. Por lo tanto, se hace indispensable realizar una evaluación completa, holística y multi-profesional de la persona que padece algún dolor, de manera que el enfermero, al establecer el proceso de enfermería, desempeñe un papel fundamental en el reconocimiento y control de esta condición con la implementación de diagnósticos precisos y de intervenciones efectivas. Conclusiones: El dolor crónico requiere de una atención especial por parte del enfermero para que la evaluación y el tratamiento sean lo más completos posible, con el fin de minimizar el impacto negativo del dolor sobre la vida de las personas.

Objective: To reflect about impact of chronic pain on people's life and on the nursing care in the process. Methodology: This is a reflexive essay, based on a theoretical review. The study was developed between May 2015 and July 2016. The data were analyzed and after organized in thematic axes as follows: The impact of chronic pain on people's quality of life, Pain as a fifth vital sign: the importance of its evaluation, and Nursing care to the patient with chronic pain. Results: Pain impacts in several ways on people's life, and, when this symptom becomes chronic, it resonates more intensively on quality of life. A comprehensive, holistic, and multi-professional evaluation to person with pain is necessary, so that nurse, setting up the nursing process, plays a central role in recognition and control of this status with the implementation of accurate diagnoses and effective interventions. Conclusions: Chronic pain needs a special attention by nurse so that assessment and treatment to be as complete as possible, in order to minimize the negative impact of pain on people's life.

Objetivo: Refletir sobre os impactos da dor crônica na vida das pessoas e a assistência de enfermagem no processo. Metodología: Trata-se de um ensaio reflexivo, fundamentado em uma revisão teórica. O estudo foi desenvolvido entre os meses de maio de 2015 a julho de 2016. Os dados foram analisados e logo organizados nos seguintes eixos temáticos: O impacto da dor crônica sobre a qualidade de vida das pessoas, Dor como quinto sinal vital: a importância de sua avaliação e Assistência de enfermagem ao paciente com dor crônica. Resultados: Vários são os impactos que a dor acarreta na vida das pessoas e, quando este sintoma se torna crônico, a repercussão sobre a qualidade de suas vidas é mais intensa. Portanto, uma avaliação abrangente, holística e multiprofissional da pessoa com dor faz-se necessária, de forma que o enfermeiro, por meio do estabelecimento do processo de enfermagem, desempenhe um papel fundamental pelo processo de reconhecimento e controle desta condição com a implementação de diagnósticos acurados e intervenções efetivas. Conclusão: A dor crônica merece atenção especial do enfermeiro, de forma que a avaliação e o tratamento sejam os mais abrangentes possível, a fim de minimizar o impacto negativo da dor sobre a vida das pessoas.

RESUMO Objetivo: Vitamina D assumiu um papel central na pesquisa e tratamento da esclerose múltipla (EM). O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar os níveis séricos de vitamina D de pacientes com EM e controles que residem em uma área tropical. Métodos: Foram analisados dados de 535 pacientes com EM e 350 indivíduos controle em 14 cidades próximas ao Trópico de Capricórnio. Resultados: O valor médio da determinação de 25-OH vitamina D foi 26,07 ± 10,27 ng/mL para controles e 28,03 ± 12,19 ng/mL para pacientes com EM. Não houve correlação entre os níveis de vitamina D e o grau de incapacidade ao longo da duração da doença. Conclusão: Pelo menos na região que cerca o Trópico de Capricórnio, os níveis séricos de vitamina D estão entre valores de 20 a 30 ng/mL tanto para controles quanto para pacientes com EM.

ABSTRACT Objective: Vitamin D has taken center stage in research and treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS). The objective of the present study was to assess the serum vitamin D levels of a large population of patients with MS and controls living in a restricted tropical area. Methods: Data from 535 patients with MS and 350 control subjects were obtained from 14 cities around the Tropic of Capricorn. Results: The mean serum 25-OH vitamin D level was 26.07 ± 10.27 ng/mL for the control subjects, and 28.03 ± 12.19 ng/mL for patients with MS. No correlation was observed between vitamin D levels and the disability of patients over the disease duration. Conclusion: At least for the region around the Tropic of Capricorn, serum levels of vitamin D typically are within the range of 20 to 30 ng/mL for controls and patients with MS.

RESUMO Este estudo descreve a construção e validação de uma escala que avalia a perceção dos alunos sobre o seu envolvimento comportamental escolar. Os questionários foram aplicados a 1089 alunos do 6 º, 7 º, 9 º e 10º anos de escolaridade (idade mediana = 13) em Portugal Continental, a partir dos quais foram extraídas duas subamostras aleatórias. Uma subamostra foi submetida a análise fatorial exploratória e a segunda, a uma análise fatorial confirmatória. Emergiram duas dimensões: envolvimento no trabalho acadêmico e participação na aula. A primeira escala revelou uma consistência interna aceitável, revelando-se útil e adequada para avaliar as percepções dos alunos sobre o seu envolvimento comportamental escolar. A segunda dimensão necessita de maior desenvolvimento em futuras investigações.

ABSTRACT This study presents the construction and validation of a scale evaluating student perceptions regarding their behavioral engagement in school. The questionnaire was administered to 1089 students attending the 6th, 7th, 9th and 10th grades (median age = 13 years) in Continental Portugal, from which two samples were randomly selected. One of the samples was submitted to exploratory factor analysis; the second sample was submitted to confirmatory factor analysis. Two dimensions emerged: involvement in academic work and class participation. The first scale presented acceptable internal consistency, and is useful and appropriate to evaluate students’ perceptions regarding their behavioral engagement in school. The second dimension requires further research and development.

O presente estudo descreve o processo de construção e estudo psicométrico de uma escala que mede a perceção dos alunos dos ensinos básico e secundário sobre o seu grau de identificação escolar. Os questionários foram aplicados a uma amostra de 1089 alunos dos 6º, 7º, 9º e 10º anos de escolaridade (mediana da idade=13 anos) em Portugal continental. Uma subamostra foi submetida a análise fatorial exploratória (n1=354), sendo uma segunda sub-amostra sujeita a uma análise fatorial confirmatória (n2=388). As análises revelaram uma estrutura tridimensional: (a) Valorização pessoal/intrínseca, α=.74; (b) Valorização no sentido prático/utilitarista, α=.74; e (c) Sentimentos de pertença e bem-estar, α=.78. As escalas revelam-se úteis e adequadas para avaliar as perceções dos alunos sobre a sua identificação escolar.

The present study describes the process of construction and psychometric study of a scale that measures elementary and high school student perceptions about their level of school identification. The questionnaire was administered to 1089 students attending the 6th, 7th, 9th and 10th grades in continental Portugal (median age=13 years). One random subsample was submitted to exploratory factor analysis (n1=354); a second was submitted to a confirmatory factor analysis (n1=388). Analyses yielded three dimensions: (a) Intrinsic Valuing, α=.74; (b) Practical Valuing, α=.74; and (c) Belonging and well-being, α=.78. The scales are useful and appropriate for evaluating students’ perceptions about their school identification.
