Abstract Background: Plants synthesize compounds of specialized metabolism to defend themselves against biotic and abiotic stresses. These compounds could be used as models for pesticide development. Among the species that have not yet been studied for the potential to produce active compounds is the kidney leaf mud plantain (Heteranthera reniformis). Objective: The goal was to evaluate the effect of hexanic, ethyl acetate and methanolic extracts of H. reniformis leaves on cress (Lepidium sativum) seed germination to determine which one have the highest biological activity; and to evaluate different concentrations of extract with the highest biological activity on lettuce (Lactuca sativa), barnyard grass (Echinochloasp.) and giant arrowhead (Sagittaria montevidensis) germination. Methods: The seeds were placed on petri dishes containing two sheets of germitest paper, and after the application of the extract, they were sealed and placed in growth chambers with controlled temperature and photoperiod. The variables analyzed were 1st and 2nd germination count, germination speed index and length of the aerial part and roots. Results: The ethyl acetate extract provided greater phytotoxicity on cress than the other extracts. In general, the highest concentration of ethyl acetate extract was the most efficient in reducing variables for all species. Conclusions: The ethyl acetate extract of H. reniformis presents inhibitory activity on the seeds of cress, lettuce, giant arrowhead and barnyard grass, but this activity was dependent on the concentration of the extract and the species studied. H. reniformis synthesizes compounds with phytotoxic activity and purification of extracts is required to isolate, identify and characterize the action mechanism of the compounds with herbicide activity, so that in the future these can be used as models for the development of herbicides.

RESUMO: O objetivo deste estudo foi monitorar a resistência de Digitaria insularis ao glyphosate em áreas urbanas do Estado de São Paulo, visando a compreensão da disseminação dos biótipos resistentes. Para isso, foram realizados três experimentos em casa de vegetação no delineamento inteiramente casualizado com quatro repetições. No primeiro experimento utilizaram-se sete biótipos de capim-amargoso e foi avaliado o controle das plantas aos 7, 14, 21, 28 e 35 dias após a aplicação (DAA) de glyphosate. No segundo experimento repetiu-se a avaliação de controle e, 72 horas após a aplicação do herbicida, quantificou-se o acúmulo de ácido chiquímico. No terceiro experimento foram conduzidas curvas de dose-resposta com glyphosate nas doses de 0, 90, 180, 360, 720, 1.440, 2.880 e 5.760 g e.a. ha-1 em três progênies obtidas por sementes autofecundadas, em que se avaliou a porcentagem de controle e massa seca aos 28 DAA, para obtenção do fator de resistência. Confirmou-se que em áreas urbanas de Ipaussu e Santa Cruz do Rio Pardo existem biótipos de capim-amargoso resistentes ao glyphosate e que essa resistência é transmitida para as progênies obtidas com sementes autofecundadas. Esses resultados inferem que é possível que sementes de capim-amargoso resistentes sejam transportadas e disseminadas para outras localidades do Brasil e, assim, contribuir com o aumento dos casos de resistência a esse herbicida. No entanto, a confirmação exige estudos mais detalhados, que envolvam DNA e árvores genealógicas, para que seja determinada a proximidade genética entre biótipos resistentes que estejam localizados em regiões distintas, já que a seleção independente também pode ocorrer.

ABSTRACT: The objective of this work was to monitor the resistance of sourgrass (Digitaria insularis) to glyphosate in urban areas of the State of São Paulo to understand the spread of resistant biotypes. Three experiments were conducted under greenhouse conditions in a completely randomized design, with four replications. In the first experiment, seven sourgrass biotypes were used, and the control of plants was evaluated at 7, 14, 21, 28, and 35 days after application (DAA) of glyphosate. In the second experiment, the shikimic acid accumulation was quantified at 72 hours after the glyphosate application, and the same evaluations of weed control were performed. In the third experiment, rate-response curves were developed, with glyphosate at rates of 0, 90, 180, 360, 720, 1,440, 2,880, and 5,760 g a.e. ha-1 applied on three progenies obtained from self-fertilized seeds; the percentage of control and shoot dry weight of the plants were evaluated at 28 DAA to determine their resistance factor. The results confirmed the occurrence of biotypes of sourgrass resistant to glyphosate in urban areas of Ipaussu and Santa Cruz do Rio Pardo and transmission of this resistance to the progenies obtained from self-fertilized seeds. These results indicate the possibility of resistant sourgrass seeds to be transported and disseminated to other Brazilian regions, thus, contributing to increase cases of resistance of sourgrass to this herbicide. However, it should be confirmed by more detailed studies involving DNA and family trees to determine the genetic proximity between resistant biotypes from different regions, since independent selection may also occur.

RESUMO: O objetivo dos experimentos foi avaliar os efeitos promovidos pelo herbicida 2,4-D no crescimento e desenvolvimento de Digitaria insularis e Digitaria horizontalis em condições climáticas distintas. Realizaram-se dois experimentos em casa de vegetação no delineamento inteiramente casualizado com 11 tratamentos (doses do herbicida) e quatro repetições. Para isso, foram conduzidas curvas de dose-resposta nas doses de 0; 50,37; 100,75; 201,5; 403; 806; 1.612; 3.224; 6.448; 12.896 and 25.792 g a.i. ha-1. Verificou-se que no período de outono/inverno as espécies apresentaram estímulo de crescimento com baixas doses de 2,4-D, enquanto na primavera/verão esse estímulo não foi observado. Doses mais elevadas do herbicida reduziram significativamente o crescimento e desenvolvimento das espécies, independentemente da condição climática avaliada. Dessa forma, o uso de herbicidas auxínicos precisa ser feito com cautela, especialmente em períodos com temperaturas mais baixas, pois quaisquer eventuais problemas relacionados à tecnologia de aplicação, que possibilitem o contato das plantas com baixas doses destes herbicidas, promoverão estímulo de crescimento dessas espécies e, assim, dificultarão o controle e favorecerão o aumento da dispersão dessas plantas.

ABSTRACT: The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of the 2,4-D herbicide on the growth and development of Digitaria insularis and Digitaria horizontalis plants under different climatic conditions. Two greenhouse experiments were conducted in a completely randomized design, with 11 treatments (rates of the herbicide) and four replications. Rate-response curves were determined for the 2,4-D rates of 0, 50.37, 100.75, 201.5, 403, 806, 1,612, 3,224, 6,448, 12,896, and 25,792 g a.i. ha-1. The plants presented growth stimulus with low rates of 2,4-D in the autumn-winter period, but this stimulus was not found in the spring-summer period. The plants subjected to application of high rates of 2,4-D had significantly lower growth and development than the control, regardless of the climatic conditions. Therefore, auxin herbicides must be used with caution, mainly in periods of low temperatures, because any problems related to the application technology - which may cause the contact of plants with low rates of this herbicide - will promote the growth of plants of these species, hindering the control and favoring the dispersion of these plants.

RESUMO: O capim-amargoso (Digitaria insularis) é uma planta perene com elevado potencial de infestação, possui desenvolvimento rápido e agressivo e se reproduz tanto por sementes quanto por rizomas. A infestação de D. insularis tem aumentado nas áreas agrícolas onde não há culturas de cobertura estabelecidas na entressafra. Nessas áreas, vem se tornando uma das espécies de plantas daninhas de maior custo de controle no Brasil. Neste trabalho foram avaliados o crescimento e o desenvolvimento de plantas de D. insularis oriundas de diferentes partes vegetativas das touceiras. Realizaram-se dois experimentos em casa de vegetação no delineamento inteiramente casualizado com quatro repetições. Adotou-se o esquema fatorial 5 x 4, sendo o fator A correspondente aos diferentes métodos de propagação e o fator B, aos biótipos utilizados (ensaio 1) e às diferentes profundidades de plantio (ensaio 2). Os parâmetros avaliados em todos os experimentos foram: índice de velocidade de emissão do perfilho, número de perfilhos, época de florescimento, número de inflorescências e matéria seca da parte aérea. Conclui-se que fragmentos das diferentes partes das touceiras do capim-amargoso, quando expostas em até 7 cm de profundidade, podem dar origem a uma nova planta. Concluiu-se que o manejo de plantas perenizadas do capim-amargoso utilizando arados, grades ou cultivadores favorece a dispersão dessa espécie.

ABSTRACT: Sourgrass (Digitaria insularis) is a perennial plant with high infestation potential, has fast and aggressive development, and reproduces by seeds and rhizomes. D. insularis infestations have increased in agricultural areas without cover crops established between the main crop seasons. The control of this species has become one of the most expensive in these areas in Brazil. The present work evaluated the growth and development of D. insularis plants from different vegetative parts of clumps. Two greenhouse experiments were conducted in a completely randomized design, with four replications. A 5 × 4 factorial arrangement was used, with factor A corresponding to the different propagation methods, and factor B corresponding to the biotypes used (experiment 1) and the different planting depths evaluated (experiment 2). The parameters evaluated in all experiments were: rate of tiller emergence, number of tillers, flowering time, number of inflorescences, and shoot dry weight. Fragments of different parts of the sourgrass clumps, planted at up to 7 cm depth, can generate a new plant. The management of perennial plants of sourgrass by using plows, harrows, or cultivators favors the dispersal of this species.

RESUMO: Este trabalho é o primeiro depois da consolidação da introdução da tecnologia RR nas culturas de milho e soja, em continuidade aos levantamentos de plantas daninhas realizados anteriormente na região do Médio Paranapanema, São Paulo. O objetivo foi realizar um levantamento fitossociológico de plantas daninhas em lavouras de milho safrinha sob plantio direto, nas mesmas propriedades em que os trabalhos foram realizados anteriormente, na região descrita, levando em consideração o manejo da comunidade infestante adotado pelos agricultores e a porcentagem de cobertura vegetal no solo. Os levantamentos foram realizados em 19 lavouras conduzidas em sistema plantio direto, com milho safrinha cultivado em sucessão à soja, ambas culturas RR, em nove municípios da região paulista do Médio Paranapanema, no ano de 2016. As principais plantas daninhas encontradas foram Bidens pilosa, Cenchrus echinatus, Commelina benghalensis, Digitaria horizontalis, Gnaphalium spicatum, Leonotis nepetifolia, Raphanus sativus, and Sonchus oleraceus. O manejo predominante de plantas daninhas é o método químico, e na grande maioria das propriedades o controle baseia-se no uso de glyphosate e atrazine. Os demais herbicidas utilizados foram nicosulfuron, clorimuron-ethyl, clethodim, haloxyfop, tembotrione e 2,4-D, quase sempre associados ao inibidor da EPSPs. A cobertura do solo com palha presente no momento da avaliação não teve correlação com a presença ou ausência das plantas daninhas encontradas.

ABSTRACT: This work is the first one after the consolidation of the introduction of the RR technology in maize and soybean crops, following weed surveys previously carried out in the region of the Middle Paranapanema, São Paulo state. The objective was to carry out a phytosociological survey of weeds in off-season maize crops no-tillage, in the same properties where the studies had been previously carried out, in the described region, taking into account the management of the weed community adopted by farmers, and the percentage of plant coveron the soil. The surveys were carried out in 19 farms conducted under no-tillage systems, with off-season maize cultivated in soybean succession, both RR crops, in nine municipalities of the São Paulo region of the Middle Paranapanema, in 2016. The main weeds were Bidens pilosa, Cenchrus Echinatus, Commelina benghalensis, Digitaria horizontalis, Gnaphalium spicatum, Leonotis nepetifolia, Raphanus sativus and Sonchus oleraceus. The predominant management of weeds was the chemical method, and in the vast majority of properties, control was based on the use of glyphosate and atrazine. The other used herbicides are nicosulfuron, chlorimuron-ethyl, clethodim, haloxyfop, tembotrione and 2,4-D, almost always associated with the EPSPs inhibitor. The soil cover with straw, found at the time of the evaluation, had no correlation with the presence or absence of the weeds.
