SUMMARY: Stroke is one of the main causes of death and disability worldwide. The great impact on the quality of life of the population and on the health system justifies that we seek relevant alternatives to reduce the incidence and improve the treatment and recovery of patients affected by this disease. Physical exercise appears as an important tool in this scenario, being already pointed out as a possible therapeutic approach for the prevention of non-contagious chronic diseases. In this context, biomarkers such as miRNAs that respond to physical exercise and are directly related to several epigenetic mechanisms appear. Therefore, explaining the molecular mechanisms involved during physical exercise will lead to a better understanding of each stimulus and the dose to be used to better respond to each situation, thus being a promising approach for the evolution of prescription and control of training and processes recovery from various diseases, including stroke. Forty-eight Wistar rats were used, divided into four experimental groups: control group, ischemia group, physical exercise group and exercise + ischemia group. Real-time PCR methodology was used to analyze the expression of miRNAs: miR-126, miR-133b and miR-221. In our study we observed a significant difference in the expression of miR- 221 between the control group and the others groups. However, microRNAs: miR-126 and miR-133b do not show significant differences in expression between groups.

RESUMEN: El ictus es una de las principales causas de muerte y discapacidad en todo el mundo. El gran impacto en la calidad de vida de la población y en el sistema de salud justifica buscar alternativas pertinentes para reducir la incidencia y mejorar el tratamiento y recuperación de los pacientes afectados por esta enfermedad. El ejercicio físico aparece como una herramienta importante en este escenario, siendo ya señalado como un posible abordaje terapéutico para la prevención de enfermedades crónicas no contagiosas. En este contexto, aparecen biomarcadores como los miRNAs que responden al ejercicio físico y están directamente relacionados con varios mecanismos epigenéticos. Por lo tanto, explicar los mecanismos moleculares involucrados durante el ejercicio físico conducirá a una mejor comprensión de cada estímulo y la dosis a utilizar para responder mejor a cada situación, siendo así un enfoque prometedor para la evolución de la prescripción, el control del entrenamiento y los procesos de recuperación de diversas enfermedades, incluido el accidente cerebrovascular. Se utilizaron cuarenta y ocho ratas Wistar, divididas en cuatro grupos experimentales: grupo control, grupo isquemia, grupo ejercicio físico y grupo ejercicio + isquemia. Se utilizó la metodología de PCR en tiempo real para analizar la expresión de miRNAs: miR-126, miR-133b y miR-221. En nuestro estudio observamos una diferencia significativa en la expresión de miR-221 entre el grupo control y los demás grupos. Sin embargo, los microARN: miR-126 y miR-133b no mostraron diferencias significativas en la expresión entre grupos.

SUMMARY: This study aimed to investigate the morphometric and the pattern of protein and gene expression related to the extrinsic apoptotic pathway in experimental focal cerebral ischemia and the hole of neuroprotection with hypothermia and ketoprofen. For this analysis, 120 rats were randomly divided into 3 groups (20 animals each): control - no surgery (20 animals); sham - simulation of surgery (20 animals); ischemic - focal ischemia for 1 hour, without reperfusion (80 animals) and divided into four subgroups with 20 animals each: ischemic + intraischemic hypothermia; ischemic + previous intravenous ketoprofen, and ischemic + hypothermia and ketoprofen. The infarct volume was measured using morphometric analysis of infarct areas defined by triphenyl tetrazolium chloride and the patterns of expression of the apoptosis genes (Fas, c-Flip, caspase-8 and caspase-3) and the apoptosis protein caspase-3 were evaluated by quantitative real-time PCR and immunohistochemistry, respectively. Hypo expression of genes of extrinsic pathway of apoptosis was observed: Fas receptor, c-Flip and caspase-8 in the ischemics areas. Increases in the gene and protein caspase-3 in the ischemic areas were also observed, and these increases were reduced by hypothermia and ketoprofen, also noted in the morphometric study. The caspases-3 increase suggests that this gene plays an important role in apoptosis, probably culminating in cell death and that the neuroprotective effect of hypothermia and ketoprofen is involved.

RESUMEN: Este estudio tuvo como objetivo investigar la morfometría y el patrón de expresión de proteínas y genes relacionados con la vía apoptótica extrínseca en la isquemia cerebral focal experimental y el agujero de neuroprotección con hipotermia y ketoprofeno. Se dividieron aleatoriamente 120 ratas en 3 grupos (20 animales cada uno): control - sin cirugía (20 animales); simulación - simulación de cirugía (20 animales); isquemia isquemia focal durante 1 hora, sin reperfusión (80 animales) y dividida en cuatro subgrupos con 20 animales cada uno: isquemia + hipotermia intraisquémica; isquemia + ketoprofeno intravenoso previo, e isquemia + hipotermia y ketoprofeno. El volumen del infarto se midió utilizando un análisis morfométrico de áreas de infarto definidas por cloruro de trifenil tetrazolio y los patrones de expresión de los genes de apoptosis (Fas, c-Flip, caspase-8 y caspase-3) y la proteína de apoptosis caspase-3 fueron evaluados por PCR cuantitativa en tiempo real e inmunohistoquímica, respectivamente. Se observó hipoexpresión de genes de la vía extrínseca de la apoptosis: receptor Fas, c-Flip y caspasa-8 en las áreas isquémicas. También se observaron aumentos en el gen y la proteína caspasa-3 en las áreas isquémicas y estos aumentos se redujeron por hipotermia y ketoprofeno, también observado por estudio morfométrico. El aumento de caspasas-3 sugiere que este gen tiene un papel importante en la apoptosis, y probable causa de muerte celular, involucrando el efecto neuroprotector de la hipotermia y el ketoprofeno.

Resumen Las organizaciones se encuentran involucradas en constantes cambios y buscan implementar estrategias que les permitan enfrentarlos nuevos desafíos que generan, sobre todo, la globalización y la competitividad, centrados en el poder del conocimiento. El objetivo de este artículo es mapear las contribuciones de la educación corporativa en la formación y el desarrollo de las competencias de los colaboradores de una organización del sector bancário. Para la realización de este trabajo se optó por una muestra no probabilística y por conveniencia. El cuestionario se aplicó en trabajadores del Banco ALFA de las ciudades de Ribeirão Preto, jaboticabal e Itu, de Brasil. Lo contestaron 200 funcionarios en total. De esta manera, fue posible concluir que los participantes concuerdan, parcialmente, en que el banco valora los funcionarios que buscan entrenamiento, por tanto, para ellos poseer capacitaciones no es un diferencial profesional frente a otro colaborador que no los posea. Sin embargo, el análisis de los resultados evidenció que es esencial un mayor incentivo a la participación en los programas o cursos financiados por el banco; pues queda clara la importancia y la necesidad de una adecuada implementación de procesos de educación corporativa, pues esta se presenta como un pilar fundamental para una gestión empresarial exitosa.

Résumé Les organisations sont impliquées dans des changements constants et cherchent à mettre en œuvre des stratégies leur permettant de faire face aux nouveaux défis créés par la mondialisation et la compétitivité et centrés autour du savoir. L'objectif de cet article est de cartographier les contributions de la formation en entreprise à la formation et au développement des compétences des collaborateurs d'une organisation du secteur bancaire. Pour effectuer cette investigation nous avons choisi un échantillon non probabiliste de commodité. Le questionnaire a été soumis aux employés de la banque ALFA des villes de Ribeirão Preto, jaboticabal et Itu, au Brésil. Au total deux cents collaborateurs y ont répondu s'accordant en partie sur le fait que la banque valorise les employés en quête de formation mais ne marque pas de différentiel professionnel par rapport à un autre collaborateur moins formé. L'investigation montre par ailleurs des résultats suggérant une plus grande incitation à participer aux programmes financés par la banque. L'importance et la nécessité d'une mise en œuvre adéquate des processus de formation en entreprise sont claires car présentées comme un pilier fondamental pour une gestion d'entreprise réussie.

Abstract Organizations are involved in constant change, and seek to implement strategies that allow them to face the new challenges that are generated, above all, by globalization and competitiveness, centered on the power of knowledge. The aim of this article is to map the contributions of corporate education to the training and development of competencies of the employees working in an organization in the banking sector. For the development of this work, we chose a non-probability convenience sample. The questionnaire was applied to workers from Banco ALFA in the cities of Ribeirão Preto, jaboticabal, and Itu, in Brazil. A total of 200 employees answered the questionnaire, thus, it was possible to conclude that the participants partly agree with the fact that the bank values the employees who seek for the opportunity of training; so for them, having training is not a professional differential against another employee who does not have it. However, the analysis of the results showed that it is essential to work on a greater incentive for employees to participate in the programs or courses that are financed by the bank; as the importance and the necessity of an adequate implementation of corporate education processes becomes clear, taking into account that it is presen ted as a fundamental pillar for a successful corporate management.

Resumo As organizações se encontram em constante mudanças e buscam implementar estratégias que lhes permitam enfrentar os novos desafios gerados, sobretudo, pela globalização e competitividade, focados no poder do conhecimento. O objetivo deste artigo é mapear as contribuições da educação corporativa no treinamento e desenvolvimento das habilidades dos funcionários de uma organização no setor bancário. Para a realização deste trabalho, foi escolhida uma amostra não probabilística e de conveniência. O questionário foi aplicado a trabalhadores do Banco ALFA nas cidades de Ribeirão Preto, Jaboticabal e Itu, no Brasil. Um total de 200 funcionários responderam. Dessa forma, foi possível concluir que os participantes concordam parcialmente que o banco valoriza os funcionários que buscam treinamento, portanto, para eles, ter treinamento não é um diferencial profissional em comparação com outro colaborador que não. No entanto, a análise dos resultados mostrou que é essencial um maior incentivo para participar de programas ou cursos financiados pelo banco porque é clara a importância e a necessidade de uma implementação adequada dos processos de educação corporativa, uma vez que este é apresentado como um pilar fundamental para o sucesso do gerenciamento de negócios.

Abstract Due mainly to the taste and appearance, the strawberry stands out in relation to the other fruits. and for the presence of antioxidant compounds. However, little attention has been devoted to the impact of abiotic stresses on the quality of strawberry and its agronomic performance. In the present study, we evaluated the effect of two levels of DS (L1 - 70% and L2 - 50% of crop evapotranspiration) on the quality of strawberry fruit and on some agronomic and physiological variables. There was a dose-dependent reduction in the evaluated agronomic variables in the DS plants, and the content of some minerals in the fruit and leaves was modified. The activities of the oxidative enzymes were higher in the fruit of L2 treatment, and the content of sucrose, reduced sugars, phenolic compounds and the total antioxidant activity were increased in the fruit from L2 treatment; while those of anthocyanins and L-ascorbic acid were reduced in L1 and L2 treatments, respectively. The phenylalanine ammonia lyase gene was upregulated and other genes related to phenylpropanoid and ascorbate pathways were downregulated in the fruit of stressed plants. Thus, our results indicate that DS seems to be a promising strategy to improve the content of antioxidant compounds and sugars.

We evaluated solid-state sensors (MOS) manufactured using nanostructured tin oxide (SnO2) obtained by different synthesis methods for selectivity, response and repeatability at different operating temperatures and methane concentrations. In addition, Zeolite 13X pellets were placed in front of the sensors to improve CH4 selectivity in the presence of CO2. The palladium doped sensor (1.4% w/w) showed the highest sensitivity at 80 ºC (83%) and shorter response times (16 s), whereas non-doped sensors exhibited the best sensitivity (78%) and response times (14 s) for those with smaller particle size (8 nm). Zeolite 13X pellets proved to be efficient at making the sensor more selective for CH4 in the presence of CO2.

Introduction: The effects of extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) have been investigated in human osteoblasts, fracture foci, nonunion and periosteum cells. The best results of nonunion treatment with ESWT have been documented for hypertrophic type. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of ESWT in an atrophic nonunion focus generated in a rabbit tibia model. Methods: Three groups were included: A, fractures receiving ESWT; B (“control”), fractures not receiving ESWT, and C, no fractures (right leg). A total of 37 New Zealand white and skeletally mature rabbits (cuniculus NV) were treated. Periosteum was cauterized using bipolar electrocautery at 20 mm in both bone stumps (proximal and distal). Then ESWT was applied in one session. Staining with hematoxylin-eosin was used. A biomechanical analysis with a 3-point loading system was performed. Maximum load and elastic modulus were evaluated in each group. Results: Histological study evidenced signs of union (periosteal and endosteal fracture callus) which were considerably larger in tibias of Group A (treated with ESWT) as compared to the control group (Group B). Conclusion: In an experimental model of atrophic pseudarthrosis caused by electrocautery in tibias of rabbits, significant radiographic and histological changes were observed after focus intervention with the application of ESWT.

Introducción: Los efectos de las ondas de choque extracorpóreas se han investigado en osteoblastos humanos, focos fracturarios, seudoartrosis y células periósticas. Los mejores resultados del tratamiento de la seudoartrosis con ondas de choque extracorpóreas se han documentado para seudoartrosis hipertróficas. El objetivo de este estudio fue investigar el efecto de la terapia con ondas de choque extracorpóreas sobre un foco de seudoartrosis “atrófica” generado en tibia de conejo. Métodos: Se establecieron tres grupos: A, fracturados sometidos a ondas de choque extracorpóreas; B (“control”), fracturados no sometidos a ondas de choque y C, no fracturados (pierna derecha). Se trataron 37 conejos (cuniculus NV) blancos y esqueléticamente maduros de Nueva Zelanda. Se practicó la cauterización del periostio con electrobisturí bipolar en una extensión de 20 mm, en ambos muñones óseos (proximal y distal). Luego se aplicaron ondas de choque extracorpóreas en una sola sesión. Se realizaron tinciones con hematoxilina-eosina. Se efectuó el análisis biomecánico con un método de carga a “3 puntos”. Se estudiaron la carga máxima aplicada y el módulo de elasticidad para cada grupo. Resultados: El estudio histológico permitió registrar signos de consolidación -callo fracturario perióstico y endostal- considerablemente mayores en las tibias de los animales del grupo A (tratado con ondas de choque extracorpóreas) que en las del grupo B “control”. Conclusión: En un modelo experimental original de seudoartrosis atrófica generada por electrocauterización en tibia de conejos, se registraron cambios significativos radiográficos e histológicos luego de la intervención del foco mediante ondas de choque extracorpóreas.

RESUMO Objetivo: analisar dados demográficos do Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS) brasileiro, que promove cobertura de saúde universal a toda população, e discutir os problemas revelados, com particular ênfase nos cuidados cirúrgicos. Métodos: os dados foram obtidos a partir dos bancos de dados de saúde pública da Demografia Médica, do Conselho Federal de Medicina, do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística e do Cadastro Nacional dos Estabelecimentos de Saúde. A densidade e a distribuição do trabalho médico e dos estabelecimentos de saúde foram avaliadas, e as regiões geográficas foram analisadas usando o índice de desigualdade público-privado (IDPP). Resultados: o Brasil tem, em média, dois médicos por 1000 habitantes, que são desigualmente distribuídos no país. Tem 22.276 cirurgiões gerais certificados (11,49 por 100.000 habitantes). Existem no país 257 escolas de medicina, com 25.159 vagas por ano, e apenas cerca de 13.500 vagas de residência médica. O índice de desigualdade público-privado é de 3,90 para o país e varia de 1,63 no Rio de Janeiro até 12,06 na Bahia. Conclusão: uma parte significativa da população brasileira ainda encontra muitas dificuldades no acesso ao tratamento cirúrgico, particularmente na região norte e nordeste do país. Médicos e, particularmente, cirurgiões são escassos no sistema público de saúde e incentivos devem ser criados para assegurar uma força médica igual no setor público e no setor privado em todas as regiões do país.

ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze demographic Brazilian medical data from the national public healthcare system (SUS), which provides free universal health coverage for the entire population, and discuss the problems revealed, with particular focus on surgical care. Methods: data was obtained from public healthcare databases including the Medical Demography, the Brazilian Federal Council of Medicine, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, and the National Database of Healthcare Establishments. Density and distribution of the medical workforce and healthcare facilities were calculated, and the geographic regions were analyzed using the public private inequality index. Results: Brazil has an average of two physicians for every 1,000 inhabitants, who are unequally distributed throughout the country. There are 22,276 board certified general surgeons in Brazil (11.49 for every 100,000 people). The country currently has 257 medical schools, with 25,159 vacancies for medical students each year, with only around 13,500 vacancies for residency. The public private inequality index is 3.90 for the country, and ranges from 1.63 in the Rio de Janeiro up to 12.06 in Bahia. Conclusions: A significant part of the local population still faces many difficulties in accessing surgical care, particularly in the north and northeast of the country, where there are fewer hospitals and surgeons. Physicians and surgeons are particularly scarce in the public health system nationwide, and better incentives are needed to ensure an equal public and private workforce.

Algumas definições de transexualidade incluem a questão da cirurgia de redesignação sexual como um desejo inerente aos(às) transexuais. Este estudo teve por objetivo investigar os significados atribuídos à cirurgia por quatro mulheres transexuais, destacando as concepções a respeito das mudanças que a redesignação acarreta na vida da pessoa transexual. Os dados foram colhidos mediante aplicação individual de entrevista aberta na modalidade história de vida temática. O material transcrito foi organizado sob a forma de estudos de caso e analisado com base na Teoria Queer. Os resultados sugerem que os significados atribuídos à cirurgia são polissêmicos e mutáveis ao longo do processo de desenvolvimento e que o desejo de se submeter ao procedimento não deve ser um critério definidor da transexualidade.

Some definitions of transsexuality include the issue of sex reassignment surgery as an inherent desire of all transsexual people. This paper aims to investigate the meanings assigned to the surgery by four transsexual women, seeking to highlight the conceptions about the changes that reassignment creates in the personal life of the transsexual. The data were collected by individual application of open-ended interviews using life history technique. The transcripts were organized into collective case studies and analyzed on basis of the Queer Theory. The results suggest that the meanings attributed to sex reassignment surgery have multiple meanings and are changeable during the process of development and that the desire of an operation should not be included as a criterion in the definition of transsexuality.

O tratamento das feridas cutâneas inclui métodos clínicos e cirúrgicos, sendo o curativo um dos tratamentos clínicos mais frequentemente utilizados. Um vasto arsenal terapêutico composto por curativos passivos ou com princípios ativos é capaz de auxiliar na reparação do tegumento em diversas situações. Curativos visam a melhorar as condições do leito da ferida, podendo ser, em algumas ocasiões, o próprio tratamento definitivo, mas em muitas situações constituem apenas uma etapa intermediária para o tratamento cirúrgico. Curativos inteligentes e biológicos são hoje mais bem classificados como substitutos cutâneos e não serão considerados neste artigo. A escolha do curativo a ser utilizado deve ser baseada no conhecimento das bases fisiopatológicas da cicatrização e da reparação tecidual, sem nunca esquecer o quadro sistêmico do paciente.

The treatment of cutaneous wounds includes both medical and surgical methods; dressing is one of the most commonly used clinical treatments. An extensive therapeutic toolkit comprising passive dressings or dressings with active principles can help repair wounds in various situations. Dressings are used to improve the conditions of the wound bed and may occasionally be considered the definitive treatment, whereas in some cases, they may be considered an intermediate step to surgical treatment. Intelligent and biological wound dressings are currently classified as dermal substitutes and will not be discussed in this article. Dressings should be selected on the basis of knowledge of the pathophysiology of wound healing and tissue repair while keeping the systemic problems of the patient in mind.
