ABSTRACT Wild birds have great prominence in the transmission of diseases to humans, mainly due to their ease of access to human populations, raising concerns about the potential impact of that proximity on public health. The present study reports ARV and PBV occurrence in wild birds from an environmental protection area in the Amazon biome, in Pará state, Brazil. We obtained 155 fecal specimens from 47 species of wild birds for RNA extraction, ARV and PBV detection utilizing molecular methods, nucleotide sequencing, and phylogenetic analysis. ARV prevalence was 0.6% (1/155), being positive in an individual of Myrmotherula longipennis, and PBV prevalence was 1.29% (2/155), affecting two individuals of Guira guira. The PBV strains were assigned to genogroup I based on phylogenetic analysis, and they shared a strong phylogenetic link with strains isolated from different geographic locations. The ARV strain was more closely related to strains that had previously circulated in the same region. The presence of ARV and PBV in this habitat suggests that infection cycles of these agents occur naturally in the wild ecosystem, potentially triggering transmission events between bird species and humans. This is the first study on ARV detection in wild birds in Brazil and the first report on the occurrence of PBV in wild Guira guira. Additional studies are required to determine the epidemiology, origin, evolution, and emergence of new potentially pathogenic viruses in the Amazon.

RESUMO As aves silvestres têm grande destaque na transmissão de doenças ao homem, principalmente pela facilidade de acesso à população humana, levantando preocupações sobre o potencial impacto dessa proximidade no contexto da saúde pública. O presente estudo relata a ocorrência de ARV e PBV em aves silvestres de uma área de proteção ambiental no bioma Amazônico. Obtivemos 155 espécimes fecais de 47 espécies de aves silvestres, que foram submetidos a extração de RNA, detecção de ARV e PBV por técnicas moleculares, sequenciamento nucleotídico e análise filogenética. A prevalência de infecção por ARV foi 0,6% (1/155), sendo positivo em um indivíduo de Myrmotherula longipennis, e a prevalência de PBV foi 1,29% (2/155), afetando dois insdivíduos de Guira guira. A análise filogenética agrupou as cepas de PBV no genogrupo I, mostrando intensa relação filogenética com cepas isoladas de outras regiões geográficas. A cepa de ARV esteve mais relacionada filogeneticamente a cepas previamente circulantes na mesma região. Este é o primeiro estudo sobre detecção de ARV em aves silvestres no Brasil e o primeiro relato sobre a ocorrência de PBV em Guira guira. A circulação de ARV e PBV nesse ambiente demonstra que os ciclos desses agentes estão ocorrendo de forma natural no ecossistema silvestre, o que pode desencadear possíveis eventos de transmissão entre as espécies aviárias e humanos. Estudos adicionais são necessários para determinar a epidemiologia, origem, evolução e surgimento de novos vírus potencialmente patogênicos na Amazônia.

ABSTRACT Some scientific evidence shows that military personnel, including lifeguard firefighters, with high levels of physical fitness may be able to perform their work tasks more efficiently and make the best decisions. The present work aimed to investigate the correlation between anthropometric variables and physical performance in lifeguard firefighters. The sample consisted of 105 men, lifeguard firefighters from the military fire department of the state of Rio de Janeiro. On the first visit, the following procedures were performed: a) completion of the par-Q and the Informed Consent Form; b) anthropometric and body composition measurements. On the second visit, the following tests were performed: 1) 20-meter sprint; 2) zigzag COD; 3) Running Anaerobic Sprint Test. Positive correlations were observed between abdominal perimeter and time in the 20-meter sprint, time in the zig-zag COD, total time in the Running Anaerobic Sprint Test; between waist-to-hip ratio and time in the 20-meter sprint, total time in the Running Anaerobic Sprint Test. Furthermore, negative correlations were observed between abdominal perimeter and velocity in the 20-meter sprint, velocity in the zig-zag COD; between waist-to-hip ratio and speed in the 20-meter sprint. However, no correlations were observed between the perimeter of the abdomen and the fatigue index; between waist-to-hip ratio and zig-zag time and speed COD, fatigue index. it was verified that, in lifeguard firefighters, high scores of abdominal circumference and waist-to-hip ratio negatively influence physical performance.

RESUMO Algumas evidências mostram que militares, dentre eles os bombeiros guarda-vidas, com elevados níveis de aptidão física podem ser capazes de executar suas tarefas laborais com maior eficiência e tomar as melhores decisões. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi investigar a correlação entre variáveis antropométricas e desempenho físico, em bombeiros guarda-vidas. A amostra foi composta por 105 homens, bombeiros guarda-vidas do corpo de bombeiros militares do estado do Rio de Janeiro. Foram observadas correlações positivas entre perímetro do abdômen e tempo no sprint de 20 metros, tempo no zig zag COD, tempo total no Running Anaerobic Sprint Test; entre relação cintura quadril e tempo no sprint de 20 metros, tempo total no Running Anaerobic Sprint Test. Além do mais, foram observadas correlações negativas entre perímetro do abdômen e velocidade no sprint de 20 metros, velocidade no zig zag COD; entre relação cintura quadril e velocidade no sprint de 20 metros. Entretanto, não foram observadas correlações entre perímetro do abdômen e índice de fadiga; entre relação cintura quadril e tempo e velocidade no zig zag COD, índice de fadiga. Verifica-se que, em bombeiros guarda-vidas, elevados escores de circunferência abdominal e relação cintura quadril influenciam, de forma negativa, no desempenho físico.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of α-lipoic acid on in vitro maturation and of l-arginine on in vitro fertilization of oocytes for in vitro production of sheep embryos. Thus, the ovaries were collected at a local slaughterhouse and the oocytes collected by the method of follicular aspiration with a vacuum pump were divided equally into five maturation groups: CON, without addition of antioxidant; CIS group, with cysteamine as an antioxidant source; and the groups ALA5, ALA10 and ALA20, containing concentrations of 5.0, 10.0 and 20.0 µM of ALA. After 24h of maturation, the oocytes were evaluated concerning occurrence and degrees of expansion of the cumulus cells. The oocytes of the best IVM group were destinated for in vitro fertilization (IVF). The selected and capacitated sperm were included in five groups: CON, without addition of capacitator agent; HEP group, with heparin as a capacitator source; and ARG5, ARG10 and ARG20 groups, where IVF occurred in the same HEP medium, replacing heparin with 5 mM, 10 mM and 20 mM L-arginine, respectively. The results were expressed as a percentage and the variables of cumulus cell expansion and number of cleaved structures were compared using the chi-square test in Epi Info software (Epi Info 7.2.5, Atlanta, GA, USA, 2021). Results were considered significant when P < 0.05. Regarding the expansion of cumulus cells all groups showed 100% expansion, on the total expansion category of COCs it was observed that ALA5 and ALA20 groups did not present the same proportion of COCs with total expansion as CIS group. After in vitro fertilization (IVF), there were no statistical differences in relation to the cleaved structures between CON, HEP, ARG5 and ARG10 groups. However, it was also observed that the use of 20.0 mM of L-arginine reduced the percentage of cleaved structures when compared to the ARG10 group (P<0.05).

El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar el efecto del ácido α-lipoico en la maduración in vitro y la l-arginina en la fecundación in vitro de ovocitos para la producción in vitro de embriones ovinos. Así, se recolectaron ovocitos de ovarios obtenidos de mataderos mediante el método de aspiración folicular con bomba de vacío, los cuales se dividieron en cinco grupos de maduración: CON, sin adición de antioxidante, grupo CIS, con cisteamina como fuente antioxidante y los grupos ALA5, ALA10 y ALA20, que contienen concentraciones de 5, 10 y 20 µM de ácido α-lipoico. Después de 24 h de maduración, se evaluó la aparición y el grado de expansión de las células del cúmulo en los ovocitos. Los ovocitos del mejor grupo MIV fueron destinados a fecundación in vitro (FIV), siendo por tanto incluidos en gotas con medio de fecundación in vitro, junto con los espermatozoides seleccionados y capacitados, resultando en los siguientes grupos: CON, sin adición de agente capacitador; grupo HEP, con heparina como fuente de condensadores; y los grupos ARG5, ARG10 y ARG20, donde se produjo la FIV en el mismo medio HEP, reemplazando la heparina por L-arginina 5, 10 y 20 mM, respectivamente. Los resultados se expresaron en porcentajes y las variables expansión celular del cúmulo y número de estructuras escindidas se compararon mediante la prueba chicuadrado del software Epi Info (Epi Info 7.2.5, Atlanta, GA, USA, 2021). Los resultados se consideraron significativos cuando P lt; 0,05. En cuanto a la expansión de las células del cúmulo, todos los grupos mostraron 100% de expansión. Evaluando los grados de expansión de las células del cúmulo, en la categoría de expansión total, se observó que los grupos ALA5 y ALA20 presentaron la misma proporción de CCO con expansión total que el grupo CIS (Plt;0.05), sin embargo se observa que hay una tendencia a la baja de las estructuras con plena expansión cuando se utilizan antioxidantes. En cuanto a las estructuras escindidas, fue posible identificar que no hubo diferencias estadísticas en relación a las estructuras escindidas, entre los grupos CON, HEP, ARG5 y ARG10. Sin embargo, también se observó que el uso de Larginina 20 mM redujo el porcentaje de estructuras escindidas en comparación con el grupo ARG10 (Plt;0.05).

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito do ácido α-lipóico na maturação in vitro e da l-arginina na fertilização in vitro de oócitos para produção in vitro de embriões ovinos. Desta forma, foram realizadas colheitas de oócitos oriundos de ovários obtidos em abatedouro através do método de aspiração folicular com bomba de vácuo, que foram divididos em cinco grupos de maturação: CON, sem adição de antioxidante, grupo CIS, com cisteamina como fonte antioxidante e os grupos ALA5, ALA10 e ALA20, contendo as concentrações de 5, 10, e 20 µM de ácido α-lipóico. Após 24h de maturação, os oócitos foram avaliados quanto à ocorrência e grau de expansão das células do cumulus. Os oócitos do melhor grupo MIV foram destinados à fertilização in vitro (FIV), sendo, portanto, incluídos em gotas com meio de fertilização in vitro, juntamente com os espermatozoides selecionados e capacitados, resultando nos seguintes grupos: CON, sem adição de capacitador agente; grupo HEP, com heparina como fonte de capacitor; e grupos ARG5, ARG10 e ARG20, onde a FIV ocorreu no mesmo meio HEP, substituindo a heparina por L-arginina 5, 10 e 20 mM, respectivamente. Os resultados foram expressos em porcentagem e as variáveis de expansão das células do cumulus e número de estruturas clivadas foram comparadas por meio do teste qui-quadrado do software Epi Info (Epi Info 7.2.5, Atlanta, GA, EUA, 2021). Os resultados foram considerados significativos quando P lt; 0,05. Em relação à expansão das células do cumulus, todos os grupos apresentaram 100% de expansão. Avaliando os graus de expansão das células do cumulus, na categoria de expansão total observou-se que os grupos ALA5 e ALA20 apresentaram a mesma proporção de CCO com expansão total que o grupo CIS (Plt;0,05), porém se observa que há uma tendência de queda de estruturas com expansão total quando os antioxidantes foram utilizados. Em relação às estruturas clivadas, foi possível identificar que não houve diferenças estatísticas em relação às estruturas clivadas, entre os grupos CON, HEP, ARG5 e ARG10. Contudo, também foi observado que o uso de 20 mM de L-arginina reduziu o percentual de estruturas clivadas quando comparado ao grupo ARG10 (Plt;0,05).

RESUMO Este artigo busca compreender o fenômeno contemporâneo das fake news. Para tanto, parte de uma revisão de literatura acerca da noção, abordando: (1) suas definições; (2) os fatores que explicariam sua onipresença na discussão política contemporânea e as consequências desse processo; (3) os casos mais recorrentemente explorados pela literatura e seu desenvolvimento histórico; (4) os “antídotos” ou soluções propostas para lidar com o fenômeno. Na sequência, o artigo faz uma leitura da noção de fake news pelas lentes do conceito de repertório do confronto político e argumenta como alguns dos antídotos frequentemente imaginados não parecem adequados para lidar com o contexto atual de crise epistêmica.

ABSTRACT This article aims to comprehend the contemporary phenomenon of fake news. To do so, it begins with a literature review, addressing: (1) definitions of the concept; (2) the factors that would explain its ubiquity in contemporary political debate and the consequences of this process; (3) the cases most frequently explored by the literature and the concept’s historical development; (4) the “antidotes” or solutions proposed to address it. The article then assesses the concept of fake news through the repertoire of contention perspective and argues that some of the frequently prescribed antidotes do not seem adequate to tackle the current epistemic crisis scenario.

RESUMEN Este artículo trata de entender el fenómeno contemporáneo de las fake news. Para ello, se parte de una revisión bibliográfica sobre la noción, abordando: (1) sus definiciones; (2) los factores que explicarían su omnipresencia en la discusión política contemporánea y las consecuencias de este proceso; (3) los casos más recurrentemente explorados por la literatura y su desarrollo histórico; (4) los “antídotos” o soluciones propuestas para enfrentar el fenómeno. En la secuencia, el artículo hace una lectura de la noción de fake news a través de las lentes del concepto de repertorio de confrontación política y argumenta cómo algunos de los antídotos a menudo imaginados no parecen adecuados para hacer frente al actual contexto de crisis epistémica.

RÉSUMÉ Cet article cherche à comprendre le phénomène contemporain des fake news. Il part donc d’une revue de la littérature sur cette notion, abordant : (1) ses définitions ; (2) les facteurs qui expliqueraient son omniprésence dans le débat politique contemporain et les conséquences de ce processus ; (3) les cas les plus fréquemment explorés dans la littérature et leur évolution historique; (4) les « antidotes » ou les solutions proposées pour faire face au phénomène. L’article lit ensuite la notion de fausses nouvelles à travers le prisme du concept de répertoire de confrontation politique et explique comment certains des antidotes souvent imaginés ne semblent pas adéquats pour faire face au contexte actuel de crise épistémique.

ABSTRACT Objective: to identify the non-invasive technologies and care strategies used by obstetric nurses to encourage freedom of movement and positioning in the parturition process. Method: A descriptive and qualitative study, with 20 obstetric nurses working in public obstetric services in Rio de Janeiro - Brazil. Data were collected from May to July 2021 through semi-structured interviews and submitted to thematic analysis. Results: the participants use the encouragement to ambulate and perform pelvic movements and squats, also suggesting specific positions, especially vertical ones. As strategies, they orient about the benefits of these technologies and respect the choice of the expectant women, interfering, however, in cases of obstetric complications. Conclusion: The incentive to freedom of movement and positioning in parturition happens with the offer of different non-invasive technologies in a care relationship with clarified and shared decision-making processes, which promote autonomy and ensure the right to safe and respectful assistance.

RESUMEN Objetivo: Identificar las tecnologías no invasivas y las estrategias de cuidados utilizadas por las enfermeras obstétricas para favorecer la libertad de movimientos y el posicionamiento en el proceso de parto. Método: Estudio descriptivo y cualitativo, con 20 enfermeras obstétricas que trabajan en servicios públicos de obstetricia en Rio de Janeiro - Brasil. Los datos se recopilaron entre mayo y julio de 2021 mediante entrevistas semiestructuradas y se sometieron a un análisis temático. Resultados: los participantes utilizan el estímulo para el desplazamiento y la realización de movimientos pélvicos y de agachamiento, sugiriendo también posiciones específicas, especialmente verticales. Como estrategias, se orientan hacia los beneficios de las tecnologías y respetan la elección de las parturientas, interfiriendo, además, en los casos de complicaciones obstétricas. Conclusión: el incentivo a la libertad de movimiento y posicionamiento en el parto pasa por la oferta de diferentes tecnologías no invasivas en una relación asistencial con procesos de toma de decisión clarificados y compartidos, que promuevan la autonomía y garanticen el derecho a una asistencia segura y respetuosa.

RESUMO Objetivo: identificar as tecnologias não invasivas e estratégias de cuidado utilizadas pelas enfermeiras obstétricas para o incentivo à liberdade de movimentos e posicionamentos no processo de parturição. Método: Estudo descritivo e qualitativo, com 20 enfermeiras obstétricas que atuam em serviços obstétricos públicos do Rio de Janeiro - Brasil. Os dados foram coletados no período de maio a julho de 2021 por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas e submetidos à análise temática. Resultados: as participantes utilizam o estímulo à deambulação e à realização de movimentos pélvicos e agachamentos, sugerindo também posições específicas, especialmente, verticalizadas. Como estratégias, orientam quanto aos benefícios destas tecnologias e respeitam a escolha das parturientes, interferindo, porém, em casos de intercorrências obstétricas. Conclusão: o incentivo à liberdade de movimentos e posicionamentos na parturição acontece com o oferecimento de diferentes tecnologias não invasivas em uma relação de cuidado com processos decisórios esclarecidos e compartilhados, que promovem a autonomia e asseguram o direito à assistência segura e respeitosa.

ABSTRACT Objective: Cervical traumatic neuromas (CTNs) may appear after lateral neck dissection for metastatic thyroid carcinoma. If they are misdiagnosed as metastatic lymph nodes (LNs) in follow-up neck ultrasound (US), unnecessary and uncomfortable fine-needle aspiration biopsy are indicated. The present study aimed to describe US features of CTNs and to assess the US performance in distinguishing CTNs from abnormal LNs. Subjects and methods: Retrospective evaluation of neck US images of 206 consecutive patients who had lateral neck dissection as a part of thyroid cancer treatment to assess CTN’s US features. Diagnostic accuracy study to evaluate US performance in distinguishing CTNs from abnormal LNs was performed. Results: Eight-six lateral neck nodules were selected for analysis: 38 CTNs and 48 abnormal LNs. CTNs with diagnostic cytology were predominantly hypoechogenic (100% vs. 45%; P = 0.008) and had shorter diameters than inconclusive cytology CTNs: short axis (0.39 cm vs. 0.50 cm; P = 0.03) and long axis (1.64 cm vs. 2.35 cm; P = 0.021). The US features with the best accuracy to distinguish CTNs from abnormal LNs were continuity with a nervous structure, hypoechogenic internal lines, short/long axis ratio ≤ 0.42, absent Doppler vascularization, fusiform morphology, and short axis ≤ 0.48 cm. Conclusion: US is a very useful method for assessing CTNs, with good performance in distinguishing CTNs from abnormal LNs.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Postoperative bleeding is one of the main causes of complications in cardiovascular surgery, which highlights the importance of ensuring adequate intraoperative hemostasis, providing a better patient outcome. This study aimed to improve the prevention of postoperative bleeding in the Cardiovascular Surgery Department of the Hospital Estadual Mário Covas (Santo André, Brazil) using an adapted version of the Papworth Haemostasis Checklist to assess the impact of this standardization on bleeding rate, postoperative complications, reoperation, and mortality. Methods: This is a non-randomized controlled clinical trial, whose non-probabilistic sample consisted of patients undergoing cardiac surgery in the abovementioned service within a two-year interval. The Papworth Haemostasis Checklist was adapted to the Brazilian laboratory parameters and the questions were translated into Portuguese. This checklist was used before the surgeon started the chest wall closure. Patients were followed up until 30 days after surgery. A P-value < 0.05 was considered statistically relevant. Results: This study included 200 patients. After the checklist, a reduction in 24-hour drain output, postoperative complications, and reoperation was observed, although statistical significance was not reached. Finally, there was a significant reduction in the number of deaths (8 vs. 2; P=0.05). Conclusion: The use of the adapted checklist in our hospital proved to be an effective intervention to improve the prevention of postoperative bleeding, with a direct impact in the number of deaths in the study period. The reduction in deaths was possible thanks to the reduction in the bleeding rate, postoperative complications, and reoperations for bleeding.

Abstract Aim The largemouth bass Micropterus salmoides was introduced in more than 50 countries for the purpose of sport fishing. In Brazil, records date from 1922, and nowadays many populations are known to occur in the southern region. Here we investigated the reproductive biology of this species in a small reservoir in southern Brazil, to understand the role of the reproductive strategy in the invasion process and assist in its management. We conclude with suggestions for the management in local scale, as this species can bring relevant problems to the public supply through trophic cascade and other negative effects. Methods Samples were performed with different methods, between May 2011 and April 2012. All fishes were measured, and the reproductive season was determined through the relative frequency of reproductive stages and the gonadosomatic index. Sex ratio was calculated monthly and for each total length (TL) class and compared with the estimates presented in the literature. Total length at maturity (L50, length at which 50% of the individuals were mature) was estimated for females, males and the entire study population. Results A total of 565 individuals of M. salmoides were analyzed. Overall sex-ratio did not differ significantly. The monthly distribution of the gonadosomatic index for females and males showed higher values between August (late winter) and November 2011 (austral spring). ��-Binomial modelling of sex-ratio data of native (n=1) and introduced populations (n=7) showed a lower proportion of females in its native range. All individuals > 21.5 cm TL were mature (L95), and L50 was calculated at 18.7 cm TL. After the reproductive period, an increase in the abundance of young individuals (≤ 7.0 cm TL) was registered, corresponding to 50% of all individuals collected. The relative frequency of mature individuals and the variation in the gonadosomatic index indicate a prolonged spawning period during the austral spring, coinciding with the increase in temperature. Conclusions Results suggested that some changes in life history traits, such as the early sexual maturation and the long reproductive period, coupled with a remarkable adaptability, may have facilitated the establishment of M. salmoides populations in this reservoir. The illegal and intentional stocking by anglers plays a central role in the introduction and dispersal of M. salmoides in Brazil. We encourage studies on the sanitary quality of this fish for human consumption, so that massive campaigns of education the population to encourage capture and consumption are implemented by the competent authorities as a control measure in local scale, combined with targeted samplings with artificial baits during the reproductive period, identification, and removal of nests and fingerlings using electric fishing or trap nets during the recruitment period.

Resumo Objetivo O black-bass Micropterus salmoides foi introduzido em mais de 50 países para fins de pesca esportiva. No Brasil, os primeiros registros datam de 1922 e atualmente muitas populações são conhecidas na região sul. Neste trabalho investigamos a biologia reprodutiva desta espécie em um pequeno reservatório no sul do Brasil, para entender o papel da estratégia reprodutiva no processo de invasão e auxiliar no manejo. Concluímos com sugestões para o manejo em escala local, pois esta espécie pode trazer problemas relevantes ao abastecimento público através da cascata trófica e outros efeitos negativos. Métodos As amostragens foram realizadas com diferentes métodos, entre maio de 2011 e abril de 2012. Todos os peixes foram medidos, e a época reprodutiva foi determinada através da frequência relativa dos estádios reprodutivos e do índice gonadossomático. A razão sexual foi calculada mensalmente para cada classe de comprimento total (CT) e comparada com as estimativas apresentadas na literatura. O comprimento total de primeira maturidade (L50, comprimento em que 50% dos indivíduos estavam maduros) foi estimado para fêmeas, machos e toda a população de estudo. Resultados Um total de 565 indivíduos de M. salmoides foi analisado. A razão geral entre os sexos não foi significativa. A distribuição mensal do índice gonadossomático para fêmeas e machos apresentou maiores valores entre agosto (final do inverno) e novembro de 2011 (primavera austral). A modelagem ��-binomial dos dados de proporção sexual de populações nativas (n=1) e introduzidas (n=7) mostrou uma menor proporção de fêmeas em sua área nativa. Todos os indivíduos > 21,5 cm CT eram maduros (L95), e o L50 calculado foi de 18,7 cm TL. Após o período reprodutivo, foi registrado um aumento na abundância de indivíduos jovens (≤ 7,0 cm CP), correspondendo a 50% de todos os indivíduos coletados. A frequência relativa de indivíduos maduros e a variação do índice gonadossomático indicam um período prolongado de desova durante a primavera austral, coincidindo com o aumento da temperatura. Conclusões Os resultados sugerem que algumas mudanças nas características de vida, como a maturação sexual precoce e o longo período reprodutivo, aliadas a uma notável adaptabilidade, podem ter facilitado o estabelecimento de populações de M. salmoides neste reservatório. A estocagem ilegal e intencional por pescadores tem papel central na introdução e dispersão de M. salmoides no Brasil. Incentivamos estudos sobre a qualidade sanitária desse pescado para consumo humano, para que campanhas massivas de educação da população para incentivar a captura e consumo sejam implementadas pelos órgãos competentes como medida de controle em escala local, combinada com amostragens direcionadas com iscas artificiais durante o período reprodutivo, identificação e retirada de ninhos e alevinos por meio de pesca elétrica ou rede-armadilha durante o período de recrutamento.

ABSTRACT Civil construction plays an important role in energy consumption worldwide and significantly influences the total consumption of natural resources and CO2 emissions. The use of renewable materials is intrinsically related to research and innovation. Reuse and recycling, as well as the development of new materials and the discovery of new applications for already known renewable materials, can significantly contribute to sustainable development. Chitosan is a biopolymer with unique characteristics and chemical structure which, combined with its wide availability as a chitin derivative, have considerably expanded its application possibilities in the most different technological fields. In the present work, the use of chitosan for the production of concrete through optimal levels is investigated. The chitosan values incorporated in the dosage were 0.1%; 0.3% and 0.4%, in relation to the cement mass. The different concretes obtained were submitted to tests of mechanical and microstructural properties. The results showed that the microstructure was favored with the use of chitosan. In addition, they presented favorable results for the incorporation of the chitosan levels used (especially considering the samples with 0.1% of substitution), also being positive regarding the mechanical properties for most of the techniques used. This strongly indicates that chitosan can be considered as a promising material to be incorporated in the production of concrete.

RESUMO A construção civil exerce função importante no consumo de energia em todo o mundo e influência, de forma significativa, o consumo total de recursos naturais e as emissões de CO2. A utilização de materiais renováveis está intrinsecamente relacionada à pesquisa e à inovação. A reutilização, a reciclagem, bem como o desenvolvimento de novos materiais e a descoberta de novas aplicações para materiais renováveis já conhecidos, podem contribuir de maneira expressiva para o desenvolvimento sustentável. A quitosana (CS) é um biopolímero com uma estrutura química e características únicas aliadas à sua farta disponibilidade como derivado da quitina, fazem com que suas possibilidades de aplicação nos mais diferentes campos tecnológicos, tenha se expandido consideravelmente. No presente trabalho, a utilização da quitosana para produção de concretos por meio de teores ótimos é investigada. Os valores de quitosana incorporados na dosagem foram 0,1%; 0,3% e 0,4%, com relação à massa de cimento. Os diferentes concretos obtidos foram submetidos a ensaios de propriedades mecânicas e microestrutural. Os resultados mostraram que a microestrutura foi favorecida com a utilização da quitosana. Bem como, apresentaram resultados favoráveis à incorporação dos teores utilizados de quitosana (se desatacando as amostras com 0,1% de substituição), sendo positivos quanto às propriedades mecânicas para a maioria das técnicas utilizadas, o que indica fortemente que a quitosana pode ser considerada como material promissor a ser incorporado na produção de concreto.

Abstract: Introduction: Traditional communities are groups of socially organized individuals with common economic, socio-environmental, and cultural behaviors. Brazil’s indigenous communities are a prime example of these groups, suffering the impact of urbanization, the growth of chronic diseases, epidemics, and increased food insecurity. Experience report: To describe the health team’s experiences in the use of a data management tool for care in an indigenous community in northeastern Brazil. Methodology: This is an experience report on the use of a digital tool to assist actions in a traditional community. The health team was divided into community health agents and medical students. Discussion: The description of the experiences and analysis of the narratives resulted in identifying 258 citations, classified into 12 categories related to the study scope. Of these, issues related to benefits of the tool were the most commonly mentioned (43.41%), where the subgroups addressed different reflections. The second most cited category referred to the tool’s limitations (15.11%), with the need for an internet connection being the critical point. This research, therefore, shows the tool’s advantages in health care but also explains weaknesses inherent to its use, raising important issues of this experience and stimulating similar practices. Conclusion: This experience report, as a scientific method, addresses essential experienced issues related to the practical applicability of a digital tool in an indigenous community. Although it is undeniable that there are obvious points of weakness, these did not compromise the positive result of the experience, and care was improved.

Resumo: Introdução: As comunidades tradicionais são grupos de indivíduos socialmente organizados que partilham comportamentos econômicos, socioambientais e culturais comuns. Entre elas, destacam-se as comunidades indígenas no Brasil, que vêm sofrendo o impacto da urbanização, do crescimento de doenças crônicas e epidemias e do aumento da insegurança alimentar. Relato de experiência: Este estudo teve como objetivo descrever as experiências da equipe de saúde, quanto ao uso de uma ferramenta de gestão de dados na assistência, em uma comunidade indígena no Nordeste brasileiro. Trata-se de um relato de experiência do uso de uma ferramenta digital nas ações assistenciais em uma comunidade tradicional. A equipe de saúde foi dividida em dois grupos: agentes comunitários de saúde e estudantes de Medicina. Discussão: A descrição das experiências e a análise das narrativas resultaram na identificação de 258 citações, que foram classificadas em 12 categorias, relacionadas ao objeto de estudo. Dentre estas, as questões ligadas aos benefícios da ferramenta foram as mais mencionadas (43,41%), em que os subgrupos abordaram diferentes reflexões. A segunda categoria mais citada se referia às limitações da ferramenta (15,11%), sendo a necessidade do sinal de internet o ponto crítico. Ou seja, esta pesquisa mostra vantagens da ferramenta na atenção à saúde, mas também explicita fragilidades inerentes ao seu uso, de modo a trazer questões importantes dessa vivência e estimular práticas semelhantes. Conclusão: Esse relato de experiência, como método científico, traz importantes questões vivenciadas, relacionadas à aplicabilidade prática de uma ferramenta digital em uma comunidade indígena. Apesar de ser inegável que há pontos de fragilidade evidentes, eles não comprometeram o resultado afirmativo da vivência, melhorando a assistência.

SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of study methodology and evaluation type on the selection of studies during the presentation of scientific events. METHODS: A prospective, observational, transversal approach was applied to a cohort of studies that were submitted for presentation at the 2021 Brazilian Breast Cancer Symposium. Three forms of criteria (CR) were presented. CR1 was based on six criteria (method, ethics, design, originality, promotion, and social contribution); CR2 graded the studies from 0 to 10 for each study, and CR3 was based on five criteria (presentation, method, originality, scientific knowledge, and social contribution). To evaluate the item correlation, Cronbach’s alpha and factorial analysis were performed. For the evaluation of differences between the tests, we used the Kruskal-Wallis and post-hoc Dunn tests. To determine the differences in the study classifications, we used the Friedman test and Namenyi’s all-pairs comparisons. RESULTS: A total of 122 studies were evaluated. There was also a good correlation with the items concerning criterion 1 (α=0.730) and 3 (α=0.937). Evaluating CR1 methodology, study design and social contribution (p=0.741) represents the main factor and CR3 methodology, and the scientific contribution (p=0.994) represents the main factor. The Kruskal-Wallis test showed differences in the results (p<0.001) for all the criteria that were used [CR1-CR2 (p<0.001), CR1-CR3 (p<0.001), and CR2-CR3 (p=0.004)]. The Friedman test showed differences in the ranking of the studies (p<0.001) for all studies (p<0.01). CONCLUSION: Methodologies that use multiple criteria show good correlation and should be taken into account when ranking the best studies.

RESUMO O controle biolósgico, pensando no manejo integrado, tem sido inserido em conjunto com outras técnicas de manejo de doenças, como antracnose da cultura da soja. O objetivo deste trabalho foi verificar a ação de isolados de Trichoderma e Bacillus na indução de mecanismos de resistência da soja á antracnose. O delineamento estatístico foi inteiramente casualizado em esquema fatorial 5 x 2 (agentes de controle biológico x horários de coleta) com cinco repetições. Sementes de soja foram tratadas com Trichoderma asperellum BV10, Bacillus subtilis BV02, B. amyloliquefaciens BV03, Carbendazim + Thiram e água destilada (testemunha). Sete dias após a emergência foi realizada a inoculação de Colletotrichum truncatum sobre os cotilédones com 2 μL de suspensão esporos (5 x 104 mL−1) sobre os cotilédones. A atividade de catalase (CAT), peroxidase (POX), fenilalanina amônia liase (FAL), gliceolina (GLI) foram avaliadas antes e após a inoculação do patógeno. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância e as médias comparadas pelo teste de Fisher (p<0,05). Os tratamentos não influenciaram o primeiro horário de coleta. O T. asperellum BV10 incrementou a atividade de POX e FAL em até 173%. B. amyloliquefaciens BV03 aumentou a atividade de POX. A GLI não foi influenciada pelos tratamentos em nenhum horário de coleta e ensaio. T. asperellum BV10 reduziu até 61% do diâmetro da lesão de antracnose. O tratamento de sementes de soja com T. asperellum BV10 possui potencial no controle da antracnose, aumentando a resposta de defesa de plântulas à C. truncatum.

ABSTRACT The biological control, thinking about the integrated management, has been inserted with other management techniques to disease control, such as soybean anthracnose. The aims of this work were to verify the action of Trichoderma and Bacillus isolates in the induction of soybean resistance mechanisms to anthracnose as a function of seed treatment. The statistical design was entirely randomised, in a 5 x 2 (agent species x sampling times) factorial scheme with five replicates. Soybean seeds were treated with Bacillus amyloliquefaciens BV03, B. subtilis BV02, Trichoderma asperellum BV10, Carbendazim + Thiram and distilled water (control). Seven days after seedling emergence, 2 μL of 1 x 10−4 Colletotrichum truncatum spores were inoculated on the cotyledons. Catalase (CAT), peroxidase (POX), phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL) and glyceollin (GLY) activities before and after pathogen inoculation, as well as the diameter of the anthracnose lesion on the cotyledons, were evaluated. Data were submitted to analysis of variance and, when significant, the mean values were compared by Fisher’s test (p < 0.05). The treatments did not influence the first sampling time before inoculation. Trichoderma asperellum BV10 increased POX and PAL activities up to 173%, while B. amyloliquefaciens BV03 increased POX activity. Glyceollin was not influenced by the treatments. The T. asperellum BV10 reduces the diameter of the anthracnose lesion by up to 61%. Thus, T. asperellum BV10 has the potential to control soybean anthracnose, improved the response defense against C. truncatum, when performed on seed treatment.

Abstract Several phytogeographic regions (Cerrado, Pantanal, Atlantic Forest, Gran Chaco, and Chiquitano Dry Forests) converge in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, and influence regional biodiversity. Despite a list of birds in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul being published by Nunes et al. (2017), it is necessary to update and critically review avifauna records. In this study, we gathered the results of several records obtained from species lists and online data platforms of the 336 sites in this state over the last decades and grouped them into Main (Primary and Secondary) and Tertiary Lists. The avifauna of Mato Grosso do Sul is composed of 678 species, of which 643 (95%) have records proving their occurrence (Primary List), whereas 34 still lack documentation (Secondary List). The number of related species for Mato Grosso do Sul represents 34% of the Brazilian avifauna. Some species stand out for their unique occurrence in Mato Grosso do Sul, such as Melanerpes cactorum, Celeus lugubris, Phaethornis subochraceus, and Cantorchilus guarayanus, reflecting the influence of different phytogeographic regions of the Chaco and Chiquitano Dry Forests. Migrants represent 20% of the bird community occurring in the state, of which 93 species correspond to migrants from various regions of South America (south and west) and 40 to boreal migrants. Thirty-three species perform nomadic movements across the Pantanal Plain and other regions of the state. Thirty-one species are included in some conservation-threatened categories of global and/or national endangered species lists. Other 30 species are included in the near-threatened category at the global level and 23 at the national level. In addition, species typical of dry forests (in Serra da Bodoquena and Maciço do Urucum) and those from the Atlantic Forest in the south of the state deserve attention due to their restricted distribution and the high anthropogenic pressure on their habitat.
