Abstract Introduction: Treatment decision in patients with asymptomatic carotid artery stenosis (ACS) is a matter of current debate with a recent shift towards isolated best medical treatment (BMT) as treatment of choice in most patients. However, poor medical compliance is one of the main constraints to the success of BMT. We hypothesized that more invasive treatment approaches can influence how patients perceive the severity of their illness and hence, treatment compliance. Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed including patients with asymptomatic >50% carotid artery stenosis (NASCET method) followed-up as outpatients in a Vascular Surgery department from January 2017 to December 2021. Optimal BMT was defined according to the European Society of Vascular Surgery Carotid Atherosclerotic Disease 2023 guidelines. Demographic and risk factor patient data was attained and subsequently a Portuguese translation of the Morisky medication-taking adherence scale (MMAS-4) questionnaire was given to all patients. Several additional questions developed by our group were also applied. Results: A total of 320 patients were identified (186 under BMT alone and 134 submitted to BMT and carotid endarterectomy - CEA). Most patients were male in both groups (75%) and the mean age was similar. Furthermore, patients undergoing CEA presented higher rates of current smoking (51.4% vs 15.9%; p<0.001) and lower rates of antiplatelet (80.0% vs. 92.8%; p=0.029) and statin (78.6% vs. 94.2%; p=0.007) prescription. Patients in the CEA group also presented with significantly lower medical compliance (40.3% vs. 24.5%, p<0.001) despite being more aware of their current medication´s name and therapeutic purpose. Conclusion: In conclusion, physicians seem to be more aggressive in controlling risk factors in BMT-only patients when compared to CEA-submitted patients. However, patients subjected to CEA may be more aware of ACS, despite having poorer medical adherence.

The publication Cardiovascular Statistics – Brazil aims to provide an annual compilation of data and research on the epidemiology of CVDs in Brazil.&nbsp; The report integrates official statistics from the Brazilian Ministry of Health and other governmental entities alongside data from the GBD project, coordinated by the IHME at the University of Washington. Additionally, it incorporates data derived from various sources and scientific studies, including cohorts and registries, that relate to CVDs and their associated risk factors. This publication is intended for a wide range of individuals, including researchers, clinicians, patients, healthcare policymakers, media professionals, the general public, and other interested parties seeking extensive national data about heart disease and stroke.&nbsp; Volunteer researchers from various Brazilian universities and research institutions carry out the project. The group is led by a five-member steering committee (ALPR, CAP, DCM, GMMO, and LCCB). The Brazilian Society of Cardiology fully supports this initiative, and the project receives collaborative support from the GBD Brazil Network and an International Committee (GAR, PP, and TAG) from both the IHME/University of Washington (GAR) and the World Heart Federation (PP and TAG).&nbsp;

A publicação Estatística Cardiovascular – Brasil tem por objetivo fornecer uma compilação anual dos dados e das pesquisas sobre a epidemiologia das DCV no Brasil.&nbsp; Este documento integra as estatísticas oficiais do Ministério da Saúde do Brasil e outras entidades governamentais ao lado de dados do projeto GBD, coordenado pelo IHME da Universidade de Washington. Além disso, incorpora dados derivados de várias fontes e estudos científicos, inclusive coortes e registros, relacionados às DCV e fatores de risco associados. Esta publicação destina-se a um público variado, incluindo pesquisadores, clínicos, pacientes, formuladores de políticas de saúde, profissionais da mídia, o público em geral e todos aqueles que buscam dados nacionais abrangentes sobre DCV e acidente vascular cerebral. Pesquisadores voluntários de várias universidades e instituições de pesquisa brasileiros realizaram este projeto. O grupo é liderado por um comitê diretivo com cinco membros (ALPR, CAP, DCM, GMMO e LCCB). Resumo Introdução: Devido a infecção congênita, a criança com microcefalia possui grandes limitações de sua condição de saúde. Estas limitações fazem com que a criança necessite de maior atenção de saúde e domiciliar. Geralmente, a mãe torna-se cuidadora principal desta criança, esse papel pode levar a sobrecarga com prejuízos em sua qualidade de vida. Objetivo: Analisar sobrecarga do cuidado e a qualidade de vida de mães ou cuidadoras principais de crianças com microcefalia relacionada à infecção congênita. Método: Estudo transversal, correlacional, realizado com 105 participantes do estado de Sergipe, Brasil, durante o período de outubro de 2017 a abril de 2018, através da aplicação questionários: sociodemográfico, WHOQOL-Bref e Sobrecarga do cuidador. Para análise estatística foram utilizados testes ANOVA, teste t e Person (r). Resultados: A totalidade dos participantes era do sexo feminino, 39 % foram classificadas com sobrecarga severa e 30,5% com sobrecarga intensa. A média total da sobrecarga (49,47) indica classificação de moderada à severa. Houve uma forte associação (p<0,0001) entre os níveis de sobrecarga e os domínios da qualidade de vida, sendo o de maior prejuízo o ambiental (36,57) e o físico (38,53). Foi observada uma correlação significativa e inversamente proporcional (r=-0,547, p<0,0001) entre a qualidade de vida e a sobrecarga do cuidador. Conclusão: As mães sofrem sobrecarga severa e intensa que pode levar a repercussões negativas em sua qualidade de vida. A enfermagem pode contribuir na criação e implementação de linhas de cuidados específicas para estas mulheres com ênfase na promoção da saúde física, mental e melhora da qualidade de vida.

Resumen Introducción: Debido a la infección congénita, las niñas y los niños con microcefalia tienen grandes limitaciones en su estado de salud. Estas limitaciones hacen que necesiten más atención sanitaria y domiciliaria. Generalmente, la madre se convierte en la principal cuidadora y este papel puede llevar a la sobrecarga, con perjuicio para su calidad de vida. Objetivo: Analizar la sobrecarga de cuidado y la calidad de vida de las madres o personas cuidadoras primarias de niñas o niños con microcefalia, relacionada con infección congénita. Método: Estudio transversal, correlacional realizado con 105 participantes del estado de Sergipe, Brasil, de octubre de 2017 a abril de 2018, a través de la aplicación de los siguientes cuestionarios: sociodemográfico, el WHOQOL-Bref y escala de sobrecarga del cuidador. Para el análisis estadístico, se utilizaron ANOVA, prueba t y prueba Person (r). Resultados: Población totalmente femenina. El 39 % se clasificó con sobrecarga severa y el 30.5 % con sobrecarga intensa. La sobrecarga media total (49.47) indica una clasificación de moderada a grave. Hubo una fuerte asociación (p<0.0001) entre los niveles de carga y los dominios de la calidad de vida, siendo los mayores daños ambientales (36.57) y físicos (38.53). Se observó una correlación significativa e inversamente proporcional (r=-0.547, p<0.0001) entre la calidad de vida y la sobrecarga de la persona cuidadora cuidador. Conclusión: Las madres sufren una sobrecarga severa e intensa que influye negativamente en su calidad de vida. La enfermería puede contribuir para la creación e implementación de líneas de atención específicas para estas mujeres con énfasis en la promoción de la salud física y mental y la mejora de la calidad de vida.

Abstract Introduction: Due to congenital infection, children with microcephaly have great limitations due to this condition. These limitations make the child need more health and home care. Generally, the mother becomes the main caretaker for this child, this role can lead to overload feelings that affect their quality of life. Objective: To analyze the role overload and the quality of life of mothers or primary caregiver of children with microcephaly related to congenital infection. Method: Cross-sectional, correlational study carried out with 105 participants from the state of Sergipe, Brazil, during the period from October 2017 to April 2018, through the application of questionnaires: sociodemographic, WHOQOL-Bref, and caregiver burden. For statistical analysis, ANOVA, t-test, and Pearson (r) tests were used. Results: All of the participants were females, 39 % were classified with severe role overload and 30.5% with intense role overload. The total average of this caregiver burden (49.47) presents a moderate to severe classification. There was a strong correlation (p<0.0001) between the levels of their role overload and the domains of their quality of life, where the greatest damage was in the environmental (36.57) and physical (38.53) aspects. A significant and inversely proportional correlation (r=-0.547, p<0.0001) was observed between the quality of life and the caregiver burden. Conclusion: Mothers suffer severe and intense caregiver overload that has a negative influence on their quality of life. Nursing can contribute to the creation and implementation of specific lines of care for these women emphasizing the promotion of physical and mental health to improve their quality of life.

Abstract Background: Endovascular mechanical thrombectomy (MT) changed acute ischaemic stroke management and is considered the standard of care for patients with proximal anterior circulation occlusion. MT improves functional independence, without an increase in mortality. Despite its advantages, up to 20% of patients treated with MT do not have successful recanalization, leading to poor clinical outcome. We present a case of an acute ischaemic stroke of the anterior circulation due to occlusion of the common carotid artery successfully submitted to surgical thrombectomy after failed MT. Case report: A 43-year-old male, with prior history of diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidaemia and heart failure was admitted at the emergency unit with acute bilateral lower limb ischaemia, due to cardioembolic phenomena. He was submitted to bilateral femoral thrombectomy and started endovenous unfractionated heparin. On the fifth postoperative day he developed sudden depression of cognitive status and left side hemiplegia of brachial predominance. Computed tomography angiography revealed an occlusion of brachiocephalic trunk, right subclavian artery and common carotid artery, preserving its branches. MT, performed by interventional neuroradiology, was unsuccessful (no recanalization or clinical improvement). After multidisciplinary discussion, the patient underwent urgent surgical thrombectomy through carotid and transaxillary approaches. Postoperatively, the patient’s mental status and left sided motor function recovered progressively over time. Three months after, patient maintains anticoagulation with warfarin, without neurological sequalae. Conclusion: The low rate of recanalization and poor clinical outcome after MT failure underlines the need for alternative rescue approaches. Surgical thrombectomy could represent a lifeline. More studies are needed to corroborate its efficacy in patients with anterior circulation acute ischaemic stroke.

Abstract Background The increase of hypertension in children and adolescents has attracted the attention of the scientific community largely due to its association with the obesity epidemic. Objectives To describe the incidence of hypertension and its relationship with the cardiometabolic and genetic profile in children and adolescents from a city in southern Brazil in a three-year period. Methods This longitudinal study followed 469 children and adolescents, aged 7-17 years old (43.1% boys), assessed at two-time points. We evaluated systolic and diastolic blood pressures (SBP and DBP), waist circumference (WC), body mass index (BMI), body fat percentage (%BF), lipid profile, glucose, cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF), and rs9939609 Polymorphism ( FTO ). Cumulative incidence of hypertension was calculated, and multinomial logistic regression was conducted. The statistical significance was established as p < 0.05. Results After three years, the incidence of hypertension was 11.5%. Overweight or obese individuals were more likely to become borderline hypertensive (overweight OR: 3.22, 95% CI: 1.08-9.55; obesity OR: 4.05, 95% CI: 1.68-9.75), and obese individuals were more likely to become hypertensive (obesity OR: 4.84, 95% CI: 1.57-14.95). High-risk WC and %BF values were associated with hypertension development (OR: 3.41, 95% CI: 1.26-9.19; OR: 2.49, 95% CI: 1.08-5.75, respectively). Conclusions We found a higher incidence of hypertension in children and adolescents as compared with previous studies. Individuals with higher values of BMI, WC and %BF at baseline were more likely to develop hypertension, suggesting the importance of adiposity in the development of hypertension even in such a young population.

Resumo Fundamento O aumento de hipertensão em crianças e adolescentes tem atraído a atenção da comunidade científica, especialmente por sua associação com a epidemia da obesidade. Objetivos Descrever a incidência de hipertensão e sua relação com o perfil cardiometabólico e genético em crianças e adolescentes de uma cidade do sul do Brasil em um período de três anos. Métodos Este estudo longitudinal acompanhou 469 crianças e adolescentes com idade entre 7 e 17 anos (43,1% do sexo masculino), avaliados em dois momentos. Avaliamos pressão arterial sistólica (PAS), pressão arterial diastólica (PAD), circunferência da cintura (CC), índice de massa corporal (IMC), porcentagem de gordura corporal (%GC), perfil lipídico, glicemia, aptidão cardiorrespiratória (APCR), e polimorfismo rs9939609 (gene FTO ) ( fat mass and obesity - associated gene ). A incidência cumulativa da hipertensão foi calculada, e realizada regressão logística multinominal. A diferença estatística foi estabelecida em p<0,05. Resultados Após três anos, a incidência de hipertensão foi de 11,5%. Indivíduos com sobrepeso e indivíduos obesos apresentaram maior probabilidade de se tornarem indivíduos classificados como borderline para hipertensão (sobrepeso OR: 3,22; IC95%: 1,08-9,55; obesidade OR: 4,05; IC95%: 1,68-9,75), e indivíduos obesos apresentaram maior probabilidade de se tornarem hipertensos (obesidade OR: 4,84; IC95%: 1,57-14,95). Valores de CC e de %GC considerados de alto risco foram associados com o desenvolvimento de hipertensão (OR: 3,41; IC95%: 126-9,19; OR: 2,49, IC95%: 1,08-5,75, respectivamente). Conclusão Encontramos uma incidência de hipertensão em crianças e adolescentes mais alta em comparação a estudos anteriores. Indivíduos com valores mais altos de IMC, CC e %GC no baseline apresentaram maior probabilidade de desenvolverem hipertensão, sugerindo a importância da adiposidade no desenvolvimento de hipertensão, mesmo em uma população tão jovem.

Abstract Introduction: Aortoiliac occlusive disease (AIOD) can be treated using either open surgical revascularization (OSR) or endovascular revascularization (ER). Methods: A Medline search was performed in order to identify articles focused on the treatment of aortoiliac occlusive disease. Additional articles of scientific interest for the purpose of this non-systematic review were included by cross-referencing. Results: There are a few articles reporting direct results between both techniques based on retrospective or prospective single center or multicenter studies. In the majority of studies, primary patency is generally better for surgery in comparison to ER, but at a cost of more postoperative complications, with higher rates of respiratory failure and wound infection in the open group. On the other hand, endovascular recanalization is related to higher rates of limb ischemia/thrombosis, renal dysfunction and reinterventions. In the presence of femoral artery calcified disease, the hybrid approach should be considered. Conclusions: Endovascular treatment is a suitable alternative for extensive AIOD and can be accomplished in a less invasive manner, with most midterm outcomes comparable with open reconstruction. Surgery should be reserved for multilevel calcified disease and after endovascular failure.

Abstract Objective: Venous stenting of iliocaval obstructions has become a more frequent procedure over the last two decades. In-stent stenosis and thrombosis are potential complications, causing one of the main causes of symptoms recurrence and impacting quality of life. The aim of this review is to report on the impact of venous stent patency loss, as well on risk factors and management. Methods: A systematic review was conducted according to the recommendations of the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses) statement. Results: After a literature search, 12 studies (two prospective and 10 retrospective studies) were included in the analysis. A total of 1981 patients (34.1% male) and 2388 limbs (63.6% left side) were assessed. Mean age was 43.5 years (range 16-99). Indication for stenting included deep venous thrombosis (DVT) (4%), post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) (18.8%) and non-thrombotic iliac vein lesions (NIVLs) (77.2%). Regarding treatment, most patients were submitted to angioplasty and stenting only (87%). Associated catheter directed thrombolysis or mechanical thrombectomy was performed when indicated (8.4%), and in the remaining an AVF/endophlebetomy was performed (4.6%). Primary, primary assisted and secondary patency rates at one year ranged from 68-100%, 79-90% and 85.8-100%, respectively. Reported anticoagulation duration after stenting ranged from 1-12 months. In one study involving only patients treated for NIVLs, no anticoagulation was prescribed, and antithrombotic therapy was continued for three months. Follow-up strategies included clinical and imagiological control with a mean follow-up of 19.7 months. Post-procedural stent re-stenosis was reported in 121 limbs (5.1%) and stent occlusion in 81 limbs (3.4%); the latter was distributed as follows: 11.1% after DVT, 77.8% PTS and 11.1% NIVLs. A total of 186 re-interventions were performed in symptomatic patients. The prognostic factor most consistently associated with stent failure was thrombotic inflow veins. Other reported factors were incomplete thrombolysis and age younger than 40 years. Stent placement below the inguinal ligament, type of stent and anticoagulation regimen do not seem to affect stent patency. Conclusion: Regarding venous lesions of the lower limbs, a selective approach and planning should focus on identification of risk factors for stent failure. It is noteworthy that most stent occlusions occur in post-thrombotic limbs. Stent failure continued after 6 months, emphasizing the importance of an extended surveillance especially on these patients.

Methods: Cross-sectional study carried out with data from the Notifiable Diseases Information System – Sinan. For the temporal analysis, the Prais-Wistein Linear Regression was used. The incidences by sex and age group, relative risk and lethality were calculated. Results: During the study period there were 2,102,657 cases of accidents by venomous animals. With the exception of snakebite, the other accidents showed an increasing temporal trend in most regions of the country. Scorpionism, snakebite and spider bites were responsible for 86% of accidents, mainly affecting men of working age. Snake (0.4%) and beetle (0.3%) accidents were the most lethal. Children were the main victims of accidents by bees, caterpillars and 'others'. Conclusion: Accidents by venomous animals showed an increasing temporal trend for most diseases and different epidemiological profiles.

Métodos: Estudio transversal realizado con datos del Sistema de Información de Enfermedades de Declaración Obligatoria – Sinan. Para el análisis temporal se utilizó la Regresión Lineal de Prais-Wistein. Se calcularon las incidencias por sexo y grupo de edad, riesgo relativo y letalidad. Resultados: Durante el período de estudio hubo 2.102.657 casos de accidentes por animales ponzoñosos. Con excepción de la mordedura de serpiente, los demás accidentes mostraron una tendencia temporal creciente en la mayoría de las regiones del país. El escorpionismo (51,2%), la mordedura de serpiente (17,4%) y la mordedura de araña (17,3%) fueron responsables del 86% de los accidentes, afectando principalmente a hombres en edad laboral. Conclusión: Los accidentes por animales venenosos mostraron una tendencia temporal creciente para la mayoría de las enfermedades y diferentes perfiles epidemiológicos.

RESUMO: Compreender a diversidade genética e contornar os problemas causados pela interação genótipos por ambientes é uma etapa importante em programas de melhoramento. Este estudo teve como objetivo estimar a diversidade genética e aplicar a metodologia de biplot genótipo + genótipo por ambiente (GGE biplot) em doze genótipos de algodão avaliados quanto ao rendimento da fibra, comprimento da fibra, resistência da fibra e micronaire. A estimativa dos componentes de variância e dos parâmetros genéticos foi feita através do método da máxima verossimilhança restrita e a predição dos valores genotípicos por meio da melhor predição linear não enviesada. Os métodos de Tocher modificado e análise de componentes principais (PCA) foram utilizados para quantificar a diversidade genética entre os genótipos. O método GGE biplot foi conduzido para encontrar os melhores genótipos em relação à adaptabilidade e estabilidade. As técnicas de Tocher e PCA permitiram a formação de clusters de genótipos semelhantes com base em uma estrutura multivariada. O GGE biplot indicou que os genótipos IMACV 690 e IMA08 WS foram altamente adaptáveis e estáveis para as principais características do algodão. O cruzamento dentre os genótipos IMACV 690 e IMA08 WS é o mais recomendado para aumentar o desempenho das principais características na cultura do algodão.

ABSTRACT: Understanding the genetic diversity and overcoming genotype-by-environment interaction issues is an essential step in breeding programs that aims to improve the performance of desirable traits. This study estimated genetic diversity and applied genotype + genotype-by-environment (GGE) biplot analyses in cotton genotypes. Twelve genotypes were evaluated for fiber yield, fiber length, fiber strength, and micronaire. Estimation of variance components and genetic parameters was made through restricted maximum likelihood and the prediction of genotypic values was made through best linear unbiased prediction. The modified Tocher and principal component analysis (PCA) methods, were used to quantify genetic diversity among genotypes. GGE biplot was performed to find the best genotypes regarding adaptability and stability. The Tocher technique and PCA allowed for the formation of clusters of similar genotypes based on a multivariate framework. The GGE biplot indicated that the genotypes IMACV 690 and IMA08 WS were highly adaptable and stable for the main traits in cotton. The cross between the genotype IMACV 690 and IMA08 WS is the most recommended to increase the performance of the main traits in cotton crops.

Métodos: Estudo transversal, realizado com dados do Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação (Sinan). Para a análise temporal, utilizou-se a regressão linear de Prais-Winsten. Foram calculadas as incidências por sexo e faixa etária, risco relativo e letalidade. Resultados: No período de estudo, houve 2.102.657 casos de acidentes por animais peçonhentos. Com exceção do ofidismo, os demais acidentes apresentaram tendência temporal crescente na maioria das macrorregiões nacionais. Escorpionismo, ofidismo e araneísmo foram responsáveis por 86% dos acidentes, principalmente entre pessoas do sexo masculino em idade economicamente ativa. A de letalidade foi mais elevada para acidentes ofídicos (0,4%) e apílicos (0,3%). As crianças foram as principais vítimas de acidentes com abelhas, lagartas e "outros". Conclusão: Os acidentes com animais peçonhentos apresentaram tendência temporal crescente para a maioria dos agravos e diferentes perfis epidemiológicos.

Abstract Objective: to analyze the temporal trend of accidents involving venomous animals in Brazil from 2007 to 2019. Methods: this was a cross-sectional study carried out with data from the Notifiable Health Conditions Information System (SINAN). Prais-Winsten linear regression was used for the temporal analysis. We calculated incidence rates according to sex and age group, relative risk and case fatality ratio. Results: during the study period there were 2,102,657 cases of accidents involving venomous animals. With the exception of snakebite, the remaining accidents showed a rising temporal trend in most regions of the country. Scorpion stings, snake bites and spider bites were responsible for 86% of accidents, mainly affecting male people of working age. Accidents involving snakes (0.4%) and bees (0.3%) had the highest case fatality ratios. Children were the main victims of accidents involving bees, caterpillars and "others". Conclusion: accidents involving venomous animals showed a rising temporal trend for most conditions, as well as different epidemiological profiles.

El escorpionismo, la mordedura de serpiente y la picadura de araña fueron responsables del 86% de los accidentes, afectando principalmente a personas del sexo masculino en edad laboral. Las tasas de letalidad más altas fueron por accidentes de mordedura de serpiente (0,4%) y picadura de araña (0,3%). Resumo Objetivo: Analisar a tendência temporal dos acidentes causados por animais peçonhentos no Brasil, de 2007 a 2019. Métodos: Estudo transversal, realizado com dados do Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação (Sinan). Para a análise temporal, utilizou-se a regressão linear de Prais-Winsten. Foram calculadas as incidências por sexo e faixa etária, risco relativo e letalidade. Resultados: No período de estudo, houve 2.102.657 casos de acidentes por animais peçonhentos. Com exceção do ofidismo, os demais acidentes apresentaram tendência temporal crescente na maioria das macrorregiões nacionais. Escorpionismo, ofidismo e araneísmo foram responsáveis por 86% dos acidentes, principalmente entre pessoas do sexo masculino em idade economicamente ativa. A de letalidade foi mais elevada para acidentes ofídicos (0,4%) e apílicos (0,3%). As crianças foram as principais vítimas de acidentes com abelhas, lagartas e "outros". Conclusão: Os acidentes com animais peçonhentos apresentaram tendência temporal crescente para a maioria dos agravos e diferentes perfis epidemiológicos.

Abstract Objective: to analyze the temporal trend of accidents involving venomous animals in Brazil from 2007 to 2019. Methods: this was a cross-sectional study carried out with data from the Notifiable Health Conditions Information System (SINAN). Prais-Winsten linear regression was used for the temporal analysis. We calculated incidence rates according to sex and age group, relative risk and case fatality ratio. Results: during the study period there were 2,102,657 cases of accidents involving venomous animals. With the exception of snakebite, the remaining accidents showed a rising temporal trend in most regions of the country. Scorpion stings, snake bites and spider bites were responsible for 86% of accidents, mainly affecting male people of working age. Accidents involving snakes (0.4%) and bees (0.3%) had the highest case fatality ratios. Children were the main victims of accidents involving bees, caterpillars and "others". Conclusion: accidents involving venomous animals showed a rising temporal trend for most conditions, as well as different epidemiological profiles.

Métodos: Estudio transversal realizado con datos del Sistema de Información de Enfermedades de Declaración Obligatoria (Sinan). Para el análisis temporal se utilizó la Regresión Lineal de Prais-Wisten. Se calcularon las incidencias por sexo y grupo de edad, riesgo relativo y letalidad. Resultados: Durante el período del estudio hubo 2.102.657 casos de accidentes con animales ponzoñosos. Con excepción de la mordedura de serpiente, los demás accidentes mostraron una tendencia temporal creciente en la mayoría de las regiones del país. El escorpionismo, la mordedura de serpiente y la picadura de araña fueron responsables del 86% de los accidentes, afectando principalmente a personas del sexo masculino en edad laboral. Las tasas de letalidad más altas fueron por accidentes de mordedura de serpiente (0,4%) y picadura de araña (0,3%). Abstract The aims of the present study were to estimate the free-of-charge acquisition of psychotropic drugs among Brazilian adults; analyze the distribution of psychotropics according to their presence on the Relação Nacional de Medicamentos Essenciais (RENAME [National List of Essential Medicines]) and acquisition according to the source of funding (free of charge or direct payment); and estimate the proportion of free-of-charge psychotropic drugs according to therapeutic class and presence on the RENAME. This study involved the analysis of data from the 2014 National Survey on the Accessibility, Use and Promotion of the Rational Use of Medicines considering psychotropic drugs used by the adult population (≥20 years; n = 32,348). The prevalence of the acquisition of free-of-charge psychotropic drugs was 53.3% and 64.6% of these drugs were on the RENAME. Among the psychotropic drugs acquired by direct payment, 70.8% were not on the national list. Regarding free-of-charge acquisition according to the therapeutic class and presence on the RENAME, differences were found for antidepressants, anxiolytics and antipsychotics (p <0.05). In conclusion, the most used psychotropic medicines were listed in the RENAME, but free-of-charge acquisition was not provided for all of them.

Resumen Marco contextual: La promoción de la autonomía de los adultos mayores es especialmente importante en la prestación de cuidados de enfermería. Sin embargo, no se han encontrado en la literatura instrumentos que permitan la autoevaluación de la promoción de la autonomía de los adultos mayores. Objetivo: Evaluar las propiedades psicométricas de una escala de autoevaluación de la promoción de la autonomía de los adultos mayores. Metodología: Estudio metodológico que incluyó la evaluación de las propiedades psicométricas de la escala, para lo cual se utilizó una muestra de 360 enfermeros. La fiabilidad se evaluó mediante la consistencia interna y la validez de constructo mediante el análisis factorial exploratorio (rotación varimax). Resultados: La consistencia interna total (alfa de Cronbach) fue de 0,983, variando de 0,955 a 0,990 en los seis factores identificados. Conclusión: Esta escala, que presenta buenas propiedades psicométricas, es un instrumento para evaluar la promoción de la autonomía en los adultos mayores desde la perspectiva de los enfermeros, lo que resulta potencialmente útil para aumentar la conciencia de estos profesionales en este ámbito.

Resumo Enquadramento: A promoção da autonomia do idoso assume particular relevo na prestação de cuidados de enfermagem. Contudo, na literatura não foram encontrados instrumentos que permitam efetuar a autoavaliação da promoção da autonomia dos idosos. Objetivo: Avaliar as propriedades psicométricas de uma escala de autoavaliação da promoção da autonomia dos idosos. Metodologia: Estudo metodológico que compreendeu a avaliação das propriedades psicométricas da escala, com recurso de uma amostra de 360 enfermeiros. A fiabilidade foi avaliada através da consistência interna e a validade de constructo através de análise fatorial exploratória (rotação varimax). Resultados: A consistência interna total (Alfa de Cronbach) foi de 0,983, variando de 0,955 a 0,990 nos seis fatores identificados. Conclusão: Esta escala, que apresenta boas propriedades psicométricas, é um instrumento de avaliação da promoção da autonomia dos idosos, na perspetiva dos enfermeiros, potencialmente útil para aumentar a consciencialização destes profissionais neste domínio.

Abstract Background: The promotion of older adults’ autonomy is particularly relevant in nursing care. However, no instruments were found in the literature that allowed the self-assessment of autonomy promotion in older adults. Objective: To evaluate the psychometric properties of a self-assessment scale of autonomy promotion in older adults. Methodology: This is a methodological study that included the assessment of the scale’s psychometric properties, using a sample of 360 nurses. The scale’s reliability was assessed through internal consistency and construct validity using an exploratory factor analysis (varimax rotation). Results: The total internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha) was 0.983, ranging from 0.955 to 0.990 across the six factors identified. Conclusion: The scale presents good psychometric properties and consists of an instrument for nurses to self-assess autonomy promotion in older adults. This instrument can potentially increase nurses’ awareness in this area.
