ABSTRACT Coelho et al. (2018) underlined the importance of the grammar O mestre francez ou novo methodo para aprender a lingua franceza por meio da portugueza, by Francisco Clamopin Durand, in the context of 18th century French-Portuguese grammar. This work stands out mainly due to its didactic character, as it was intended for all Portuguese people who wanted to study the French language correctly. In preparing his work, the author claimed to have based his linguistic theories on the most prestigious French authors of the time, referencing Pierre de La Touche, François Séraphin Régnier Desmarais, and Pierre Restaut. For this reason, in this paper we intend to present the graphophonetic proposals of the author of the grammar under analysis concerning the pronunciation of vowels, trying to demonstrate the possible influence of the aforementioned French authors. The methodology used will consist in a contrastive analysis of the information present in Durand’s grammar with the different treatises mentioned by the author, highlighting the contribution of his main sources (Auroux, 2006).

Esta obra destaca-se sobretudo pelo seu pendor didático, pois destinava-se a todos os portugueses que pretendessem estudar a língua francesa corretamente, pelo que, na elaboração da sua obra, o autor afirmou ter baseado as suas teorias linguísticas nos autores franceses mais prestigiados da época, referenciando Pierre de La Touche, François Séraphin Régnier Desmarais e Pierre Restaut. Por esta razão, é nossa pretensão, neste artigo, apresentar as propostas grafofonéticas do autor da gramática em análise relativamente à pronúncia das vogais, procurando demonstrar a possível influência dos supramencionados autores franceses. A metodologia utilizada consistirá numa análise contrastiva das informações presentes na gramática de Durand com os diferentes tratados mencionados pelo autor, evidenciando o contributo das suas principais fontes (Auroux, 2006).

Abstract In the first half of the 20th century, numerous didactic grammars for the teaching and learning of the Portuguese language were published. Many of these authors aimed at the official recognition of their works through the approval in a competition for official use in the Portuguese educational system. It is in this context that appears the unpublished document Parecer acerca de 7 (sete) gramáticas da língua portuguesa by Berta Valente de Almeida, in which the author analyses seven grammars of the Portuguese language. She presents her opinion on issues ranging from the structure of the works to specific grammatical aspects. Thus, this research aims at presenting the view of an experienced and qualified author about these grammars, particularly concerning issues related to the programmes in force and the methodological options followed by the authors. This research uses a historical and hermeneutic methodology, which is based on a confrontation of different types of sources: the grammars of the mentioned authors, the document written by the author and the programmatic and curricular guidelines for the learning of the Portuguese language of the time. As a result, this paper provides a better understanding of the Portuguese metalinguistic manuals that were produced in the mid-twentieth century.

Résumé Dans la première moitié du XXe siècle, de nombreuses grammaires didactiques ont été publiées pour l'enseignement et l'apprentissage de la langue portugaise. Beaucoup de ces auteurs visaient la reconnaissance officielle de leurs œuvres par l'approbation dans un concours pour une utilisation officielle dans le système éducatif portugais. C'est dans ce contexte qu'apparaît le document inédit Parecer acerca de 7 (sete) gramáticas da língua portuguesa de Berta Valente de Almeida, dans lequel l'auteur analyse sept grammaires de la langue portugaise, donnant son avis sur des questions allant de la structure de l'ouvrage à des aspects grammaticaux spécifiques. Ainsi, cette recherche vise à faire connaître la vision d'un auteur expérimenté et qualifié sur les grammaires, notamment en ce qui concerne les questions liées aux programmes en vigueur et les options méthodologiques suivies par les auteurs. Cette recherche repose sur une méthodologie historique et herméneutique, qui se base sur la confrontation de différents types de sources : les travaux grammaticaux des auteurs mentionnés, le document écrit par l'auteur et les orientations programmatiques et curriculaires pour l'apprentissage de la langue portugaise de l'époque. Par conséquent, cet article permet de mieux comprendre les manuels métalinguistiques de langue portugaise qui ont été produits au milieu du vingtième siècle.

RESUMEN En la primera mitad del siglo XX, se publicaron numerosas gramáticas didácticas para la enseñanza y el aprendizaje de la lengua portuguesa. Muchos de estos autores aspiraban al reconocimiento oficial de sus obras mediante la aprobación en un concurso para su uso oficial en el sistema educativo portugués. En este contexto surge el documento inédito Parecer acerca de 7 (sete) gramáticas da língua portuguesa, de Berta Valente de Almeida, en el que la autora analiza siete gramáticas de la lengua portuguesa, dando su opinión sobre cuestiones que van desde la estructura de la obra hasta aspectos gramaticales concretos. Así, esta investigación pretende presentar la visión de un autor experimentado y cualificado sobre las obras, especialmente en lo que se refiere a las cuestiones relacionadas con los programas en vigor y las opciones metodológicas seguidas por los autores. Esta investigación se basa en una metodología histórica y hermenéutica, que se apoya en la confrontación de diferentes tipos de fuentes: las obras gramaticales de los autores mencionados, el documento escrito por el autor y las orientaciones programáticas y curriculares para el aprendizaje de la lengua portuguesa de la época. En consecuencia, este trabajo permite conocer mejor los manuales metalingüísticos de la lengua portuguesa que se elaboraron a mediados del siglo XX.

Muitos destes autores visavam o reconhecimento oficial das suas obras através da aprovação em concurso para uso oficial no sistema de ensino português. É nesta sequência que surge o documento inédito Parecer acerca de 7 (sete) gramáticas da língua portuguesa da autoria de Berta Valente de Almeida, no qual a autora analisa sete gramáticas da língua portuguesa, dando o seu parecer acerca de questões que vão desde a estrutura da obra a aspetos gramaticais específicos. Assim, com esta investigação, objetiva-se dar a conhecer a visão de uma autora experiente e qualificada acerca destas obras, particularmente no que respeita a questões relativas aos programas em vigor e a opções metodológicas seguidas pelos autores. Esta investigação se assenta numa metodologia histórica e hermenêutica, que se baseia num confronto de diferentes tipos de fontes: as obras gramaticais dos autores mencionados, o documento redigido pela autora e as orientações programáticas e curriculares para a aprendizagem da língua portuguesa da época. Abstract The year 1935 marks the beginning of women’s participation in the National Assembly. This is a historic milestone in the Portuguese society, as it gives voice to a group of the population that lived on the fringes of the public domain. It is in this context that, in 1945, the MP Virgínia Faria Gersão was elected, a high school teacher, who stood out for her active spirit and enthusiastic manner in advocating the cause of education. In this article, we intend to know and understand the context in which this MP moved, as well as to analyze her participation in the National Assembly during the IV Legislature, using archivist and bibliographic sources.

Resumo O ano de 1935 marca o início da participação da mulher na Assembleia Nacional. Trata-se de um marco histórico na sociedade portuguesa, pois dá-se voz a um grupo que vivia à margem do domínio público. É neste contexto que, em 1945, é eleita a deputada Virgínia Faria Gersão, que se destacou pelo seu espírito ativo e pela forma entusiasta como advogou a causa do ensino. No presente artigo, pretendemos conhecer e compreender o contexto em que esta deputada se movimentou, assim como analisar a sua participação na Assembleia Nacional durante a IV Legislatura, socorrendo-nos para tal de fontes arquivísticas e bibliográficas.

Resumo O objetivo deste artigo é analisar o documento inédito Como eu ensino o português na II classe dos Liceus, redigido em 1923, pela professora portuguesa Virgínia Faria Gersão (1896-1974), com o intuito de refletir sobre o ensino da língua materna nos liceus da época. Este estudo coloca em foco particularmente as temáticas da leitura e da redação, pelo papel fundamental que esses domínios têm no processo de aprendizagem. Pretende-se dar a conhecer a visão da autora acerca da leitura e da redação e as estratégias que propõe e aplica na sua prática de ensino. Trata-se de uma investigação assentada em uma metodologia histórica e hermenêutica, que se baseia em um confronto de diferentes tipos de fontes, nomeadamente as orientações programáticas e curriculares para a aprendizagem da língua portuguesa e o documento redigido pela professora, aquando da conclusão dos seus estudos na Escola Normal Superior da Universidade de Coimbra. Como resultado, este artigo propicia uma maior compreensão da formação dos professores na época em Portugal e do ensino do Português nos liceus, nos inícios do século XX. Paralelamente, permite-nos concluir que a prática de ensino de Virgínia Gersão se identifica com uma pedagogia inovadora, aproximando-se dos ideais da Escola Nova.

Abstract The aim of this article is to analyze the unpublished document Como eu ensino o português na II classe dos Liceus, written in 1923 by the Portuguese teacher Virgínia Faria Gersão (1896-1974), in order to reflect on the teaching of the mother tongue in high schools at that time. This study focuses on reading and writing competences, due to the fundamental role that these domains have in the learning process. The aim of this paper is to reveal the author’s vision of reading and writing and the strategies she proposes and applies in her teaching practice. This is an investigation based on a historical and hermeneutic methodology, which is based on a confrontation of different types of sources, namely the programmatic and curricular guidelines for the learning of the Portuguese language and the document written by the teacher at the end of her studies at the ‘Escola Normal Superior da Universidade de Coimbra’. As a result, this paper provides a greater understanding of teacher training at the time in Portugal and a greater understanding of the teaching of Portuguese in high schools in the early twentieth century. In parallel, it allows us to conclude that the teaching practice of Virgínia Gersão can be identified with an innovative approach to pedagogy, coming closer to the ideals of “The New School”.

Antónia Gertrudes Pusich (1805-1883) foi uma mulher de elevada cultura, tendo deixado escritos sobre diversos domínios e temáticas. Foi no campo do jornalismo que mais se distinguiu, sendo pioneira nestas funções. Colaborou em diversos jornais e fundou três periódicos, dos quais foi proprietária e diretora. Nestes escreveu sobre variados temas, expressando os seus pensamentos sem preconceitos e possibilitando a outras mulheres a expressão da sua voz. Neste artigo, pretendemos dar destaque ao seu carácter pioneiro, analisando as suas ideias, expressas nos textos publicados em A Assembléa Litteraria (1849-1851), sobre a ilustração dos portugueses e, em particular, das mulheres.

Antónia Gertrudes Pusich (1805-1883) was a very literate woman, having published several texts on different domains and issues. She collaborated with several newspapers and founded three newspapers of which she was the owner and director,being a pioneer in these roles. In these newspapers she wrote on a variety of topics, expressing her thoughts without prejudice and enabling other women to express their voices. In this article, we intend to highlight Pusich’s pioneering character, analysing her ideas expressed in the texts published in A Assembléa Litteraria about the state of Portuguese education in general and, in particular, about the state of female education.

RESUMO No presente artigo, temos como objetivo dar a conhecer e analisar A gramática das criancinhas (1921), uma obra redigida pela então professora portuguesa Virgínia Faria Gersão (1896-1974), para o ensino da gramática nos primeiros anos escolares. A abordagem bastante original que a autora confere ao texto faz desta obra um documento de elevado interesse para a história do ensino gramatical em Portugal. Nesta investigação, é nosso objetivo levar a cabo uma análise das estratégias usadas pela autora na explicação dos conteúdos gramaticais, criadas com o propósito de facilitar a aprendizagem dos alunos. O nosso estudo permite-nos concluir que o seu pensamento pedagógico faz eco das principais correntes da época, revelando ainda pertinência na atualidade.

ABSTRACT In this paper, we aim to present and analyze the work A gramática das criancinhas (1921), written by the then Portuguese teacher Virgínia Faria Gersão (1896-1974) for the teaching of grammar during the first years of school. The very original approach that the author confers to her text renders this work a document of high interest for the history of grammatical teaching in Portugal. In this investigation, it is our objective to carry out an analysis of the strategies used by the author in the explanation of the grammatical contents, created with the purpose of facilitating the students' learning. Our study allows us to conclude that the author's pedagogical thinking echoes the main trends of the time, still revealing to be pertinent nowadays.

El enfoque bastante original que la autora confiere al texto hace de su obra un documento de alto interés para la historia de la enseñanza gramatical en Portugal. En esta investigación, es nuestro objetivo llevar a cabo un análisis de las estrategias usadas por la autora en la explicación de los contenidos gramaticales, creados con el propósito de facilitar el aprendizaje de los alumnos. Nuestro estudio nos permite concluir que su pensamiento pedagógico hace eco de las principales corrientes de la época, revelando aún pertinencia en la actualidad.

RÉSUMÉ Dans le présent article, nous souhaitons présenter et analyser l'œuvre A gramática das criancinhas (1921), rédigée par Virgínia Faria Gersão (1896-1974), une enseignante portugaise de l'époque, destinée à l’enseignement de la grammaire des premières années scolaires. L’auteure fait une approche très originale du texte ce qui rende son ouvrage un document d'un grand intérêt pour l'histoire de l'enseignement de la grammaire au Portugal. Dans cette recherche, notre objectif est d’analyser les stratégies utilisées par l’auteure pour expliquer les contenus grammaticaux, dans le but de faciliter l’apprentissage des élèves. Notre étude nous permet de conclure que sa réflexion pédagogique fait écho des principaux courants de l’époque et continue encore à être pertinent dans l’actualité.

RESUMO A gramática O Mestre francez de Francisco Clamopin Durand foi publicada, pela primeira vez, em 1767, e terá contado com onze edições, revelando a importância e a divulgação que esta gramática franco-portuguesa teve na época. Neste sentido, pretendemos dar a conhecer esta gramática e o seu autor, procurando identificar as principais fontes (Auroux 2006) para as ideias linguísticas do gramático no que respeita ao tratamento das partes da oração mais importantes, isto é, do artigo, do nome, do pronome e do verbo, seguindo o modelo de análise proposto por Swiggers (2006) para o estudo da gramaticografia francesa e espanhola.

ABSTRACT The grammar O Mestre francez by Francisco Clamopin Durand was published for the first time in 1767. This book was believed to have eleven editions, which reveals the importance and dissemination that this Franco-Portuguese grammar had at the time. Therefore we intend to recall this grammar and its author, trying to identify the main sources of the author’s linguistic ideas (Auroux 2006) regarding the treatment of the most important parts of the speech, that are, the article, noun, pronoun and the verb, adopting the model of analysis proposed by Swiggers (2006) for the study of French and Spanish grammars.

Desde sempre os estudiosos da língua refletiram sobre as questões ortográficas. Durante os séculos XVIII e XIX, vários foram os tratados metaortográficos dados à estampa, de entre os quais se destaca a Orthographia, ou Arte de Escrever, e Pronunciar com acerto a Lingua Portugueza (1734), de João de Morais Madureira Feijó, cuja influência se estendeu ao século XIX, época em que foi publicada a Grammatica Philosophica da Lingua Portugueza (1822), de Jerónimo Soares Barbosa, que apresenta, pela primeira vez e formalmente, um sistema ortográfico misto. Neste sentido, tendo em conta a importância das duas obras, pretendemos, no presente artigo, analisar e confrontar as propostas ortográficas destes dois autores, atentando na definição de ortografia apresentada, no alfabeto proposto, na representação da nasalidade, assim como nos ditongos elencados por ambos, especificando o caso do ditongo nasal [?~w].

Linguists have always reflected about orthographic issues. During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, many orthographies were published, among which is worth mentioning the Orthographia, ou Arte de Escrever, e Pronunciar com acerto a Lingua Portugueza (1734) of João de Morais Madureira Feijó, whose influence extended into the nineteenth century, when the Grammatica Philosophica da Lingua Portugueza (1822) of Jerónimo Soares Barbosa was published, presenting for the first time and formally a mixed spelling system. Therefore, taking into account the importance of the two works, in this article we intend to analyze and confront the orthographic proposals of these two authors, considering the definition of orthography presented, the proposed alphabet, the representation of nasality, as well as the diphthongs listed by the authors, specifying the nasal diphthong [?~w].

OBJETIVOS: descrever a experiência no diagnóstico da Síndrome de Turner (ST), focalizando a distribuição dos cromossomos, a idade, os sinais e sintomas característicos, conforme as fases da vida (lactância, infância, adolescência e adulta). MÉTODOS: estudo descritivo com 178 pacientes, atendidos de 1970 até 2008. Para análise estatística das diferenças percentuais usou-se o Epi-Info-2000 e para as diferenças entre as médias de idades o teste t de Student e o ANOVA. RESULTADOS: os cariótipos encontrados foram: 79 com 45,X (35,4%), 36 com isocromossomo Xq (20,2%) e 63 com outros mosaicos (35,4%). A média de idade do diagnóstico foi de 12,6 anos, sendo menor naquelas com 45,X. Tiveram o diagnóstico feito na lactância 11,3% das pacientes, 25,3% na infância, 51,1% na adolescência e 12,4% na fase adulta. Daquelas diagnosticadas antes dos cinco anos de idade, 70,6% apresentaram 45,X. Os sinais que levaram à suspeita diagnóstica na lactância foram o pescoço alado e o linfedema congênito de pés/mãos associados às dismorfias típicas; na infância e adolescência foi a baixa estatura. Cubitus valgus foi encontrado em 72,5% das pacientes e orelhas anômalas em 65% das pacientes diagnosticadas com menos de um ano de idade. CONCLUSÃO: o diagnóstico da ST é desnecessariamente atrasado, levando-se em consideração que algumas características típicas podem já estar presentes desde o nascimento.

OBJECTIVES: to describe the Rio de Janeiro State Institute of Diabetes and Endocrinology's experience in diagnosing Turner Syndrome (TS), focusing on the distribution of chromosomes, age, and typical signs and symptoms, according to life stage (breast feeding, childhood, adolescence and adulthood). METHODS: a descriptive study was conducted of 178 patients, attending the Institute between 1970 and 2008 for the purposes of statistical analysis of the percentage differences using Epi-Info-2000 and of the differences between the mean ages using Student's t test and ANOVA Results: the caryotypes found were: 79 with 45,X (35.4%), 36 with isochromosome Xq (20.2%) and 63 with other mosaics (35.4%). The mean age on diagnosis was 12.6 years, this figure being lower in patients with 45,X. The syndrome was diagnosed during breast feeding in 11.3% of patients, during childhood in 25.3%, during adolescence in 51.1%, and in 12.4% in adulthood. In those diagnosed before the age of five years, 70,6% had 45,X, signs that led to a suspected diagnosis during breast feeding were a webbed neck and congenital lymphedema in the hands and feet associated with typical dysmorphias. In childhood and adolescence the sign was short stature. Cubitus valgus was found in 72.5% of patients and abnormal ears in 65% of those diagnosed at an age of less than one year. CONCLUSION: diagnosis of TS does not necessarily have to be late, as some typical characteristics may already be present at birth.

Interações iniciais parecem ser adaptativas, e conhecê-las é fundamental para compreender a ontogênese humana. Este estudo compara dados de observações de díades mãe-bebê, analisando os comportamentos dos parceiros, a complexidade das trocas e seu componente afetivo. Participaram 56 díades (28 com bebês de um mês e 28 com bebês de cinco meses), filmadas em suas casas em situações livres. Foram identificados e analisados episódios de interação. Os resultados indicaram efeito do fator tipo de díade (de bebês de um ou de cinco meses) em quatro variáveis dependentes que indicam complexidade das interações. Diferenças foram observadas nos dois grupos quanto à manifestação de afetividade recíproca dos parceiros. As interações mostram-se predominantemente de tipo face-a face quando os bebês têm um mês e de estimulação por objeto aos cinco meses, indicando assim uma tendência observada em grupos urbanos ocidentais. As manifestações afetivas e a presença de interações que envolvem o sistema de contato corporal levam a que se hipotetize um padrão de autonomia relacional. Os resultados confirmam a literatura quanto à possibilidade de trocas em etapas iniciais do desenvolvimento, e o estudo contribui para o conhecimento de suas características. É destacada a afetividade, e enfatizado seu papel constitutivo nas interações, de fundamental importância no desenvolvimento infantil.

Early interactions seem to be adaptive, it is fundamental to know them in order to understand human ontogenesis. This study compares data of observations of mother-baby dyads, analyzing the behavior of the partners, the complexity of the interchanges and their affective components. The participants were 56 dyads (28 with one-month old babies and 28 with five-month old babies), filmed in their homes in free situations. Interaction episodes were identified and analyzed. The results showed the effect of the factor type of dyad (one or five months-old babies) in four dependent variables that indicate complexity of the interactions. Differences in the manifestation of reciprocal affectivity of the partners were observed in the two groups. The interactions were predominantly face-to-face when the babies are one-month old, and the system of object stimulation is predominant when the babies are five-months old. This indicates a tendency observed in Western urban groups. The affective manifestations and the presence of interactions which are characterized by the system of body contact favor the formulation of a hypothesis of the presence of an autonomous relational pattern. The results confirm the literature about the possibility of interchanges in initial stages of the development, and the study contributes for the knowledge of its characteristics. The affective aspect is stressed, and its constitutive role in interactions is emphasized, assuming its importance in child development.

Este estudo visou a analisar características das interações iniciais mãe-bebê em um contexto urbano brasileiro; as relações entre características de interações, atividades maternas e a concepção acerca das competências dos bebês; e as relações entre características destas atividades e o estado de vigília dos bebês. A amostra foi constituída por 30 díades. Os bebês tinham idade média de 29 dias. Registrou-se em vídeo as atividades da díade durante 20 minutos. Foi aplicado um questionário às mães. Os dados foram analisados em termos da percentagem de ocorrências das atividades da díade e de interação. Os episódios de interação identificados foram de curta duração, predominantemente face-a-face, têm contextos específicos de troca e se caracterizam principalmente por atividades sociais. Os bebês foram avaliados como ativos, participantes das trocas sociais. Os resultados contribuem com elementos importantes para discussão da natureza dos primeiros processos interacionais.

This study aimed at analyzing the characteristics of initial mother-baby interactions in a Brazilian urban environment; the relationship between the interaction characteristics, mother's activities and their conception about the baby's competences; and the relationship between the characteristic of those activities and the baby's awareness state. A sample of 30 mother-baby dyads was observed. The dyads consisted of mothers and her babies who were, on average, 29-days old. The dyads were videotaped for 20 minutes and the mothers were asked to answer a questionnaire. The data were analyzed in terms of the percentage of the occurrences of the dyad's activities and interaction. The episodes of interaction observed were short-term, mainly face-to-face, having a specific context and mostly distinguished as social activities. The babies were evaluated as active and participant in the social exchange. The results contribute with important elements for the discussion of the nature of the first interactional processes.
