Cancer cell lines are widely used as in vitro models of tumorigenesis, facilitating fundamental discoveries in cancer biology and translational medicine. Currently, there are few options for glioblastoma (GBM) treatment and limited in vitro models with accurate genomic and transcriptomic characterization. Here, a detailed characterization of a new GBM cell line, namely AHOL1, was conducted in order to fully characterize its molecular composition based on its karyotype, copy number alteration (CNA), and transcriptome profiling, followed by the validation of key elements associated with GBM tumorigenesis. Large numbers of CNAs and differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified. CNAs were distributed throughout the genome, including gains at Xq11.1-q28, Xp22.33-p11.1, Xq21.1-q21.33, 4p15.1-p14, 8q23.2-q23.3 and losses at Yq11.21-q12, Yp11.31-p11.2, and 15q11.1-q11.2 positions. Nine druggable genes were identified, including HCRTR2, ETV1, PTPRD, PRKX, STS, RPS6KA6, ZFY, USP9Y, and KDM5D. By integrating DEGs and CNAs, we identified 57 overlapping genes enriched in fourteen pathways. Altered expression of several cancer-related candidates found in the DEGs-CNA dataset was confirmed by RT-qPCR. Taken together, this first comprehensive genomic and transcriptomic landscape of AHOL1 provides unique resources for further studies and identifies several druggable targets that may be useful for therapeutics and biologic and molecular investigation of GBM.

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a eficácia do PRP associado com esponjas cirúrgicas na integração do enxerto ao leito receptor. Realizou-se, no Hospital Veterinário da Unesp, Jaboticabal, SP, um estudo com 64 coelhos, separados em oito grupos, com oito animais. Os grupos foram: Gprpc (PRP, sem esponja cirúrgica, enxerto camada), Gprpce (PRP, esponja cirúrgica, enxerto camada), Gcc (solução fisiológica 0,9%, sem esponja cirúrgica, enxerto camada), Gcce (solução fisiológica 0,9%, esponjas cirúrgicas, enxerto camada), Gprpm (PRP, sem esponja cirúrgica, enxerto malha), Gprpme (PRP, esponja cirúrgica, enxerto malha), Gcm (solução fisiológica 0,9%, sem esponja cirúrgica, enxerto malha) e Gcce (solução fisiológica 0,9%, esponjas cirúrgicas, malha). Os dados foram analisados pelo teste t emparelhado, Kruskal-Wallis, análise de variância, e teste de Tukey (P<0,05). Edema e exsudato presente com três e sete dias (P=0,03 e P=0,0049); coloração cianótica no 14º dia (P=0,0001); aspecto cosmético bom no sétimo e no 14º dia (P=0,00026 e P=0,0001); presença de células mononucleares (P=0,01) e polimorfonucleares (P=0,01); proliferação de fibroblastos discreta (P=0,01); colagenização intensa (P=0,05); hemorragia discreta (P=0,007); ausência de diferença significativa em necrose e reepitelização (P=0,2928 e P=0,1). Conclui-se que o emprego do PRP gel em enxertos cutâneos associando esponjas cirúrgicas como curativo compressivo favorece sua integração ao leito receptor sem a presença prévia de tecido de granulação.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate of the efficacy of PRP employment associated with surgical sponges to improve the integration of the graft in the recipient bed. It was held at the Veterinary Hospital UNESP, Campus of Jaboticabal - SP, a study of 64 rabbits, divided into eight groups with eight animals. The groups were divided in control with saline solution 0,9%, control with PRP both without the sponge, surgical sponge with PRP, surgical sponge without PRP, and were used mesh and layer grafts in the respective groups. The data were submitted to statistical analysis (paired t-test, Kruskal-Wallis test, with subsequent use of the multiple comparison tests of Dunn, analysis of variance (F) test, Tukey test, P< 0.05). Edema and exudate with 3 and 3 and 7 days (P= 0,03 e P= 0,0049); coloring on the 14th day (P= 0,0001); cosmetic appearance on the 7th and 14th day (P= 0,0026 and P= 0,0001); mononuclear cells (P= 0,01) and polymorphonuclear (P= 0,01); fibroblast proliferation (P= 0,01); collagenous (P= 0,05); hemorrhage (P-007); necrosis and re-epithelialization (P= 0,2928 and P= 0,1). We concluded that the use of Platelet Rich Plasma Gel on skin grafts associated with a sponge as a compressive dressing promote the skin graft survival without a previous granulation tissue.

Biological biomaterials for tissue engineering purposes can be produced through tissue and/or organ decellularization. The remaining extracellular matrix (ECM) must be acellular and preserve its proteins and physical features. Placentas are organs of great interest because they are discarded after birth and present large amounts of ECM. Protocols for decellularization are tissue-specific and have not been established for canine placentas yet. This study aimed at analyzing a favorable method for decellularization of maternal and fetal portions of canine placentas. Canine placentas were subjected to ten preliminary tests to analyze the efficacy of parameters such as the type of detergents, freezing temperatures and perfusion. Two protocols were chosen for further analyses using histology, scanning electron microscopy, immunofluorescence and DNA quantification. Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) was the most effective detergent for cell removal. Freezing placentas before decellularization required longer periods of incubation in different detergents. Both perfusion and immersion methods were capable of removing cells. Placentas decellularized using Protocol I (1% SDS, 5 mM EDTA, 50 mM TRIS, and 0.5% antibiotic) preserved the ECM structure better, but Protocol I was less efficient to remove cells and DNA content from the ECM than Protocol II (1% SDS, 5 mM EDTA, 0.05% trypsin, and 0.5% antibiotic).

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a influência de talos de couve como enriquecimento ambiental sobre o comportamento de calopsitas (Nymphicus hollandicus) mantidas em cativeiro. Dezesseis aves foram alojadas individualmente em gaiolas e alimentadas com dieta comercial para psitacídeos e mistura de sementes, com água ad libitum durante 12 dias, em câmara climática com temperatura e umidade relativa do ar simulando condições tropicais. Os animais (n=8) foram divididos em dois grupos, controle e enriquecido, e o período experimental foi dividido em duas fases (durante e após o enriquecimento) de quatro dias cada. Os talos de couve foram usados como enriquecimento apenas durante o primeiro período do experimento, trocados diariamente e mantidos apenas durante o dia. Os talos aumentaram o consumo de ração e diminuíram o comportamento dormir. Nenhum efeito foi observado nas outras atividades de descanso, na temperatura da superfície corporal, na locomoção e manutenção. Foram detectadas pequenas atividades indesejáveis. Concluiu-se que os talos de couve podem ser usados como enriquecimento ambiental, formando parte das preferências alimentares de calopsitas. No entanto, seu uso não altera de maneira expressiva o comportamento das aves.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of collard green stalks as environmental enrichment on the behavior of cockatiels (Nymphicus hollandicus) maintained in captivity. Sixteen birds were housed individually in cages and fed a commercial diet for parrots and seed mix, with water ad libitum during 12 days in climatic chamber with temperature and relative humidity simulating tropical conditions. The animals (n = 8) were divided into two groups, control and enriched, and the experimental period was divided into two phases (during and after enrichment) of four days each. The collard green stalks were used as enrichment only during the first period of the experiment, daily changed and maintained only during the day. The stalks increased the feed intake and decreased the sleep activities. No effect was observed on the body surface temperature, locomotion, maintenance and other resting activities. Small undesirable activities were detected. It was concluded that collard green stalks can be used as environmental enrichment, becoming part of food preferences of cockatiels. However, its use does not significantly alter the behavior of birds kept in captivity

Abstract Objective: This prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, checked the effect of the intake of 3 g/day-1 of β-Hidroxy-β-Methylbutyrato on the parameters of the force-time curve in elite kayakers. Method: 24 paddlers, men, elite with 21.41 ± 5.35 years, 173.36 ± 8.27 cm and 69.83 ± 10.29 kg. Formed two groups, one supplemented (HMB) and another placebo (CON), both followed for 14 days and subjected to maximum test 4 min (pre and post) in a kayak ergometer. Results: Point improvement in mechanical efficiency in line with the significant increase in the generated pulse (17.23% p = 0.02), average power (26.6% p = 0.01), stroke frequency (13.5% p = 0.04) before maximum test 4 min ergometer. Conclusion: There was improvement in the ability to generate power, which may be associated with supplementation of β-Hidroxy-β-Methylbutyrato by reducing catabolism during training, however the mechanism by which this may occur is still unknown.

Resumo Objetivo: O presente estudo prospectivo, randomizado, duplo-cego e placebo-controlado, verificou o efeito da ingestão de 3 g/dia-1 β-hidroxi-β-metilbutirato sobre os parâmetros da curva força-tempo em canoístas de elite. Método: Participaram 24 canoístas, homens, de elite, com 21.41 ± 5.35 anos, 173.36 ± 8.27 cm e 69.83 ± 10.29 kg. Formaram-se 2 grupos, um suplementado (HMB) e outro placebo (CON), ambos acompanhados por 14 dias e submetidos a teste máximo de 4 min (pré e pós) num caiaque ergômetro. Resultados: Apontam melhora na eficiência mecânica em consonância com o aumento significativo do impulso gerado (17.23%, p = 0.02), da potência média (26.6%, p = 0.01), frequência de remada (13.5%, p = 0.04), perante teste máximo de 4 min em ergômetro. Conclusão: Houve melhora na capacidade de gerar potência, que pode estar associada com a suplementação de β-hidroxi-β-metilbutirato, através da diminuição do catabolismo durante o treinamento; contudo, o mecanismo pelo qual isso pode ocorrer ainda é desconhecido.

Resumen Objetivo: Este estudio aleatorizado, doble ciego prospectivo, controlado y placebo, tubo como objetivo comprobar el efecto de la ingesta de 3 g/día-1 de β-hidroxi-β-metilbutirato en los parámetros de la curva fuerza-tiempo en kayakistas de élite. Método: Veinticuatro kayakistas, hombres, élite con 21.41 ± 5.35 años, 173.36 ± 8.27 cm y 69.83 ± 10.29 kg. Formado dos grupos, uno suplementado (HMB) y otro placebo (CON), ambos siguieron durante 14 días y sometido a máxima 4 min prueba (pre y post) en un ergómetro kayak. Resultados: Se apreció una mejora en la eficiencia mecánica en relación con el aumento significativo del impulso generado (17.23% p = 0.02), la potencia media (26.6% p = 0.01), frecuencia de carrera (13.5% p = 0.04) durante una prueba máxima en ergómetro de 4 min. Conclusión: Hubo una mejora en la capacidad para generar energía, que puede estar asociada con la administración de suplementos de β-hidroxi-β-metilbutirato mediante la reducción de catabolismo durante el entrenamiento, sin embargo, el mecanismo por el que esto puede ocurrir es aún desconocido.

RESUMO A utilização de diferentes doses de herbicidas pode promover resposta fisiológica diferenciada em gramíneas do mesmo gênero. Este trabalho foi proposto com o objetivo de avaliar as respostas fisiológicas de B. ruziziensis e B. decumbens submetidas aos herbicidas glyphosate e fluazifop-p-butyl. Os tratamentos foram arranjados no esquema fatorial 2 x 6, com cinco repetições, sendo duas gramíneas (B. decumbens cv. Basilisk e B. ruziziensis) e seis doses dos herbicidas: 0,00, 0,25, 0,50, 1,00, 1,5 e 2,00 vezes a dose comercial indicada pelos fabricantes. Aos 7, 15, 21 e 30 dias após aplicação dos herbicidas (DAA), foi avaliada a eficiência de captação de energia luminosa sensíveis ao glyphosate que ao fluazifop-p-butyl. Com relação ao fluazifop-p-butyl, B. ruziziensis foi mais sensível que B. decumbens, e, aos 45 dias após o corte, B. decumbens submetida a doses de até 100 g ha-1 foi capaz de regenerar seu aparato fotossintético.

ABSTRACT Different doses of herbicides can promote a differentiated physiological response in grasses of the same genus. This study has been proposed in order to evaluate physiological responses of B. ruziziensis and B. decumbens submitted to glyphosate and fluazifop-p-butyl. Treatments were distributed in a 2 x 6 factorial design with five repetitions, being two grasses: B. decumbens cv. Basilisk and B. ruziziensis with six doses of herbicides: 0.00; 0.25; 0.50; 1.00; 1.5 and 2.00 times the commercial dose recommended by manufacturers. At 7, 15, 21, and 30 days after herbicide application (DAA) chlorophyll luminous energy uptake efficiency was evaluated. Plants subjected to glyphosate at 7 days after application (DAA) showed minimum fluorescence of 270 and 245 quantum-1 electrons to B. ruziziensis and B. decumbens, respectively, levels increased by 350% when compared to the control, and at 15 DAA the treated plants have completely dried up. At 15 DAA, both forage species submitted to the fluazifop-p-butyl showed a 25% reduction in Fv/Fm ratio compared with the control and there was no significant difference between the lowest and highest doses applied. B. ruziziensis and B. decumbens are more sensitive to glyphosate than fluazifop-p-butyl. Regarding fluazifop-p-butyl, B. ruziziensis was more sensitive than B. decumbens and at 45 days after cutting B. decumbens plants submitted to doses up to 100 g ha-1 were able to regenerate their photosynthetic apparatus.

RESUMO Objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar a seletividade do capimbraquiária e do capim-ruziziensis, submetidos à aplicação de herbicidas em pósemergência. O experimento foi realizado em casa de vegetação. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados com cinco repetições. Os tratamentos foram dispostos em esquema fatorial (8 x 2) + 2, sendo oito herbicidas: nicosulfuron, clomazone, glyphosate, fluazifop-p-butil + fomesafen, lactofen, fomesafen, fluazifopp-butil e mesotrione, em duas espécies forrageiras, Brachiaria decumbens cv. Basilisk (capim-braquiária) e Brachiaria ruziziensis (capim-ruziziensis), mais duas testemunhas, sem aplicação dos herbicidas. Os herbicidas estudados apresentaram menor intoxicação nas plantas de capim-braquiária, quando comparadas às de capim-ruziziensis. O nicosulfuron e glyphosate promoveram maior intoxicação no capim-braquiária e capim-ruziziensis, em comparação aos demais herbicidas. O glyphosate, fluazifop-p-butil + fomesafen, fluazifop-p-butil, mesotrione e nicosulfuron afetaram a relação fluorescência variável/fluorescência máxima (Fv/Fm) em ambas as espécies, indicando efeito na cadeia de transporte de elétrons promovido por esses herbicidas. Os resultados demonstraram que as plantas de capim-braquiária e capim-ruziziensis apresentam maior suscetibilidade ao glyphosate, fluazifop-pbutil + fomesafen, fluazifop-p-butil, mesotrione e nicosulfuron.

ABSTRACT This study was conducted in order to evaluate the selectivity of signal grass and congo grass, submitted to post-emergence herbicide application. The experiment was conducted under greenhouse conditions, in Diamantina, Minas Gerais state, and it was arranged in a randomized block design, with five replications. Treatments were set in factor scheme (8 x 2) + 2. Eight herbicides (nicosulfuron; clomazone; glyphosate; fluazifop-p-butyl + fomesafen; lactofen; fomesafen; fluazifop-p-butyl and mesotrione) were applied in doses recommended by the manufacturer on two fodder species: Brachiaria decumbens cv. Basilisk (signal grass) and Brachiaria ruziziensis (congo grass); in addition, there were two control samples without herbicide application, for a total of 18 treatments. The evaluated herbicides showed less intoxication on signal grass when compared to congo grass. Nicosulfuron and glyphosate promoted higher intoxication on both species when compared to the other herbicides. Glyphosate, fluazifop-p-butyl + fomesafen, fluazifop-p-butyl, mesotrione and nicosulfuron affected the ratio variable / maximum fluorescence (Fv/Fm) in both species, indicating an effect provided by these herbicides on the electron transport chain. Results demonstrated that signal grass and congo grass have higher susceptibility to glyphosate, fluazifop-p-butyl + fomesafen, fluazifop-p-butyl, mesotrione and nicosulfuron. congo grass shows higher susceptibility to the studied herbicides when compared to signal grass.

Although acute exercise is apparently pro-inflammatory and increases oxidative stress, it can promote the necessary stress stimulus to train chronic adaptations in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF). This study aimed to compare the effects of exercise intensity and duration on the inflammatory markers soluble tumor necrosis factor receptor (sTNFR1) and interleukin-6 (IL-6), and on oxidative stress [malondialdehyde (MDA) and antioxidant enzymes: catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD)] in individuals with CHF. Eighteen patients performed three exercise sessions: 30 min of moderate-intensity (M30) exercise, 30 min of low-intensity (L30) exercise, and 45 min of low-intensity (L45) exercise. Blood analysis was performed before exercise (baseline), immediately after each session (after), and 1 h after the end of each session (1h after). Thirty min of M30 exercise promoted a larger stressor stimulus, both pro-inflammatory and pro-oxidative, than that promoted by exercises L30 and L45. This was evidenced by increased sTNFR1 and MDA levels after exercise M30. In response to this stressor stimulus, 1 h after exercise, there was an increase in IL-6 and CAT levels, and a return of sTNFR1 to baseline levels. These findings suggest that compared with the duration of exercise, the exercise intensity was an important factor of physiologic adjustments.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of sodium hyaluronate (HY), single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and HY-functionalized SWCNTs (HY-SWCNTs) on the behavior of primary osteoblasts, as well as to investigate the deposition of inorganic crystals on titanium surfaces coated with these biocomposites. Primary osteoblasts were obtained from the calvarial bones of male newborn Wistar rats (5 rats for each cell extraction). We assessed cell viability using the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide assay and by double-staining with propidium iodide and Hoechst. We also assessed the formation of mineralized bone nodules by von Kossa staining, the mRNA expression of bone repair proteins, and the deposition of inorganic crystals on titanium surfaces coated with HY, SWCNTs, or HY-SWCNTs. The results showed that treatment with these biocomposites did not alter the viability of primary osteoblasts. Furthermore, deposition of mineralized bone nodules was significantly increased by cells treated with HY and HY-SWCNTs. This can be partly explained by an increase in the mRNA expression of type I and III collagen, osteocalcin, and bone morphogenetic proteins 2 and 4. Additionally, the titanium surface treated with HY-SWCNTs showed a significant increase in the deposition of inorganic crystals. Thus, our data indicate that HY, SWCNTs, and HY-SWCNTs are potentially useful for the development of new strategies for bone tissue engineering.

Abstract Nanotechnology has emerged as a promising area for innovative products, including insecticides. Dengue is a tropical disease which is considered a critical health problem in developing countries, due to negative impacts to the environment caused by synthetic chemicals used for vector control (Aedes aegypti). Thus, developing of natural products based insecticidal are considered very promising. On this context, the aim of the present study was to obtain an O/W nanoemulsion containing Rosmarinus officinalis L., Lamiaceae, essential oil and evaluate its larvicidal activity against A. aegypti. Low energy method was employed, allowing achievement of small droplets. The nanoemulsion also presented low polydispersity and mean droplet below 200 nm, even after 30 days of storage. Potential mortality levels were observed after 24 h (80 ± 10%) and 48 h (90 ± 10%) in A. aegypti larvae at final concentration of 250 ppm, related to R. officinalis essential oil. This study contributes to nanobiotechnology of natural products, presenting a potential larvicidal nanoemulsion prepared with R. officinalis essential oil. Moreover, nanoemulsion production involved a non-heating procedure, describing easy technique which may be useful for integrative control programs.

O peso e o rendimento das carcaças de codornas de corte da linhagem EV1 foram avaliados no 35° dia de idade em delineamento experimental inteiramente ao acaso, com os tratamentos consistidos de um fatorial 2 x 6, ou seja, dois sexos e seis níveis de metionina+cistina totais (0,73; 0,79; 0,85; 0,91; 0,97 e 1,03%), quatro repetições e 12 aves por unidade experimental. Foram avaliados peso corporal, peso e rendimento de carcaça, peito, coxa, asas, vísceras comestíveis e gordura abdominal. Não houve efeito da interação sexo x nível de metionina das dietas para nenhuma das variáveis analisadas. Houve efeito quadrático dos níveis de metionina+cistina sobre peso corporal, carcaça, peito, coxa, asa e coração, com pontos de máximo em 0,93% para peso corporal, carcaça, peito e coxa; 0,90% para peso de asa e 0,92% para peso de coração. O peso de fígado aumentou de forma linear à medida que foram aumentados os níveis de metionina+cistina das dietas. Os níveis de metionina+cistina da dieta influenciaram de forma quadrática nos rendimentos de peito e asas, com pontos de máximo estimados para codornas alimentadas com dietas contendo 0,96% e 0,98% de metionina+cistina, respectivamente. O maior rendimento de moela foi obtido nas codornas alimentadas com 0,73% de metionina+cistina. O peso corporal de carcaça, peito, coxa, asa, fígado, moela e o rendimento de fígado nas fêmeas foram maiores que nos machos. A exigência de metionina+cistina para pesos de carcaça e peito é 0,93%, e para rendimento de peito 0,96%.

Carcass weight and yield of European quail strain EV1 were evaluated at 35 days of age in a completely randomized experimental design, with the treatments consisting of a 2 x 6 factorial combination, two sexes and six different methionine+cystine levels of diets (.73; .79; .85; .91; .97 and 1.03%), with four replicates and 12 quails per experimental unit. Body weight, weights and yields of carcass, breast, thigh, wing and, edible giblets and abdominal fat were recorded. Significant and quadratic effect of methionine+cystine level on body weight, weights of carcass, breast, thigh and heart were observed with estimated maximum of body weight and weights of carcass, breast and thigh for quails fed .93% methionine+cystine diets, .90% for wing weight and .92% for heart weight. Increasing and linear response of liver weight to methionine+cystine level of diet was estimated while breast and wing yields showed quadratic responses with estimated maximum for quails fed .96% and .98% methionine+cystine level diets. Higher gizzard yield was observed for quails fed .73% diets. Higher body weight, and weights of carcass, thigh, wing, liver, gizzard and liver yields were estimated for females. Methionine+cystine requirement for quail carcass and breast weights is .93% and for breast yield .96%.

O objetivo do presente trabalho foi acompanhar o desenvolvimento imunológico dos neonatos caninos, a fim de avaliar a imunidade celular pela análise dos leucócitos e linfócitos totais e das subpopulações de linfócitos T (CD4+ e CD8+) pela técnica de citometria de fluxo. Foram utilizados 30 cães neonatos de ambos os sexos, sem raça definida, aos três, 10, 17, 24, 31, 38 e 45 dias de idade. A contagem de leucócitos totais aos 45 dias (11.639±3.574) foi significativamente maior que no terceiro dia de idade (8.740±1.812) (P<0,05); não houve diferença entre a contagem total de linfócitos aos 45 dias em relação ao terceiro dia de idade. Quanto às subpopulações de LT CD4+ e LT CD8+, os percentuais de LT CD4+, aos três dias de idade (24,9±16,8%), foram inferiores quando comparados à média entre o 10°, o 24° e o 31°dia (35,5%), e os de CD8+, ao terceiro dia, menores em relação às médias do 10° e do 31° dia de idade. Pode-se concluir que as subpopulações de LT CD4+ e CD8+ sofrem oscilações durante o desenvolvimento pós-natal, sendo estas crescentes em relação aos níveis obtidos aos três dias de idade. A relação CD4+:CD8+ mostrou superioridade para o primeiro tipo celular, sendo que a maior relação entre CD4+ e CD8+ ocorreu no terceiro dia de idade. Com base nos resultados obtidos neste estudo, notaram-se as diferenças semanais nas populações linfocitárias, o que demonstra a dinâmica dessas células durante o período neonatal.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the immune development of newborn canines, evaluating the cellular immunity by analysis of leukocyte and lymphocyte totals and sub-population of T lymphocytes (CD4+ and CD8+) by the flow cytometry technique. Thirty neonatal mongrel dogs of both sexes were used, at 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, 38 and 45 days of age. The total leukocyte count to 45 days (11639±3574/µL) was significantly greater than on the third day of age (8740±1812) (p<0.05); There were no differences between the total count of lymphocytes at 45 days in relation to the third day of age. As for the subpopulations of CD4+ and CD8+, CD4+ cell percentages, at three days of age (24.9±16.8) they were inferior when compared to the average between the 10th, 24th and 31st day (35.5), and CD8+ cells, on the third day, were lower compared with averages from the 10thand 31st day of age. It can be concluded that the subpopulations of CD4+ and CD8+ cells undergo oscillations during development, with growing postnatal levels obtained at three days old. The CD4:CD8 ratio showed superiority to the first cell type, and the largest relationship between CD4+ and CD8+occurred on the third day of age. Based on the results obtained in this study, the differences noted in lymphocyte populations weekly showed the dynamics of these cells during the neonatal period.

Avaliou-se o efeito de diferentes porcentagens de inclusão de metionina + cistina sobre o desempenho de codornas de corte durante as fases inicial - nascimento ao 21º dia - e total de criação - nascimento a 35º dia de idade. Foram utilizadas 288 codornas, de ambos os sexos, distribuídas em delineamento inteiramente ao acaso, com seis porcentagens de inclusão de metionina + cistina total, 0,73; 0,79; 0,85; 0,91; 0,97 e 1,03%, quatro repetições e 12 aves por unidade experimental. As variáveis avaliadas foram peso corporal, ganho de peso, consumo e conversão alimentar do nascimento ao 21º dia e do nascimento ao 35º dia de idade. Verificou-se efeito quadrático da inclusão do nascimento ao 21º dia de idade para todas as características avaliadas, observando melhor desempenho com 0,97% de metionina + cistina para peso corporal e ganho de peso, e 0,96% para consumo e conversão alimentar. Houve efeito quadrático da adição nível de metionina + cistina do nascimento ao 35º dia de idade para peso corporal, ganho de peso e consumo alimentar, com melhor desempenho com 0,95; 0,95 e 0,96%, respectivamente. A exigência de metionina + cistina para máximo ganho de peso na fase inicial foi de 0,97%, e para fase total de criação 0,95%.

The effect of total methionine + cystine on performance of European quail EV2 strain during two phases of the growth period (from hatch to 21 days and from hatch to 35 days of age) were evaluated in a completely randomized experimental design, with six levels of methinine + cystine (.73; .79; .85; .91; .97 and 1.03), four replicates and 12 quails per experimental unit. Body weight, weight gain, feed intake and feed:weight gain ratio were recorded from hatch to 21 days and from hatch to 35 days of age. The quadratic effect of methionine + cystine was observed for all traits measured from hatch to 21 days of age. Highest body weight and weight gain were estimated for quails fed .95% methionine + cystine diets, while better feed intake and feed:weight gain ratio were estimated for those fed .96% diets. The quadratic effects of methionine + cystine levels on body weight, weight gain and feed intake were also observed from hatch to 35 days of age, with estimated highest performance for quails fed .95%; .95%;and .96% diets, respectively. Methionine + cystine requirement for EV2 strain is .97% from hatch to 21 days of age and .97% from hatch to 35 days of age.

Estudou-se o efeito de diferentes níveis de metionina+cistina sobre o desempenho de codornas de corte durante a fase inicial (nascimento ao 21º dia) e fase total de criação (nascimento ao 35º dia de idade). Foram utilizadas 288 codornas, de ambos os sexos, distribuídas em delineamento inteiramente casualizado. Os tratamentos consistiram de seis níveis de metionina+cistina total (0,73; 0,79; 0,85; 0,91; 0,97 e 1,03%), quatro repetições e doze aves por unidade experimental. Os parâmetros avaliados foram peso corporal, ganho de peso, consumo e conversão alimentar para fase inicial e total de criação. Observou-se efeito quadrático significativo do nascimento ao 21º dia de idade para todos os parâmetros avaliados, sendo observado melhor desempenho nas codornas alimentadas com 0,95% de metionina+cistina para peso corporal e ganho de peso, e 0,94% para consumo e conversão alimentar. Houve efeito quadrático do nível de metionina+cistina do nascimento ao 35º dia de idade para peso corporal, ganho de peso e consumo alimentar, com melhores desempenhos nos níveis de 0,93; 0,93 e 0,94%, respectivamente. A exigência de metionina+cistina para máximo ganho de peso na fase inicial é de 0,95%, e para fase total de criação é de 0,93%.

Weight gain methioninine+cystine requirement from hatch to 21 days is .95%, and from hatch to 35 days of age is .93%.

A reciclagem do resíduo da serragem do granito como matéria-prima alternativa em formulações cerâmicas vem sendo muito estudada nos últimos anos. Por outro lado, o uso de ferramentas matemáticas para otimizar o comportamento mecânico de corpos cerâmicos contendo resíduos também vem sendo muito aplicado. Deste modo, o presente trabalho tem como objetivo utilizar técnicas estatísticas aliadas à metodologia de delineamento de mistura para analisar a resistência à flexão de corpos cerâmicos contendo resíduo de granito. Foram estabelecidas composições utilizando um planejamento em rede simplex e foram conformados corpos-de-prova por prensagem uniaxial a 25MPa. Em seguida os corpos de prova foram queimados a 1.000, 1.100 e 1.150 ºC. Foi determinado o módulo de ruptura à flexão dos corpos de prova em ensaio de três pontos. Com base nos resultados pode-se concluir que a metodologia de planejamento experimental associada à superfície de resposta é uma ferramenta que possibilita analisar o módulo de ruptura dos corpos cerâmicos frente a adição de resíduo de granito e por conseguinte desenvolver composições com elevados teores de resíduos sem perdas no seu módulo de ruptura.

Granite sawing waste recycling as alternative raw material for ceramic formulations has been very much studied in the last years, however it was not observed the use of mathematical tools to understand the mechanical behavior of the ceramic bodies containing waste. Thus, this work used statistical tools associated with the mixture design methodology to model the flexural strength of the ceramic bodies containing granite waste. Compositions were developed using a simplex-lattice design and test samples were obtained by uniaxial pressing. The test samples were fired at 1.000, 1.100 and 1.150ºC and their modulus of rupture was determined in a three point bend test. The results indicated that the statistical design of mixture experiments associated with the response surface is a tool that permits to model the modulus of rupture of the ceramic bodies in relation to the amount of incorporated waste and, consequently, to develop formulations containing high amounts of wastes without the decrease of the modulus of rupture.
