Resumen: Antecedentes: El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar las propiedades psicométricas, el funcionamiento de los ítems, la invariancia factorial y la validez convergente de la versión española del Herth Hope Index (HHI) en pacientes con cáncer. Método: Estudio transversal, multicéntrico, prospectivo de 863 pacientes con cáncer de 15 hospitales españoles. Se realizaron análisis factoriales exploratorios y confirmatorios para explorar la dimensionalidad, el funcionamiento de los ítems, la invariancia de medición según el sexo, la edad, el sitio del tumor y la supervivencia esperada, y la validez externa. Resultados: Los resultados obtenidos no respaldan la escala original de 3 factores y en cambio sugieren una estructura de un factor, que explicó el 62% de la varianza común, con una confiabilidad satisfactoria (ω = .88). Una solución de invariancia fuerte demostró un excelente ajuste en función del sexo, la edad, el sitio del tumor y la supervivencia. HHI reveló asociaciones sustanciales con la resiliencia y el bienestar espiritual. Conclusiones: Nuestros resultados indican que la versión en español del HHI es una herramienta corta, fácil de administrar, válida y confiable para evaluar el nivel de esperanza de los pacientes con cáncer.

Abstract: Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties, differential item functioning, factorial invariance, and convergent validity of the Spanish version of the Herth Hope Index (HHI) in patients with cancer. Method: Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were conducted to explore the scale, dimensionality, functioning of items, test for strong measurement invariance across sex, age, tumor site, and expected survival, and an extended structural equation model to assess external validity in a cross-sectional, multicenter, prospective study of 863 cancer patients from 15 Spanish hospitals. Results: The results do not support the original 3-factor scale but instead suggest a one-factor structure, which explained 62% of the common variance. Scores from the unidimensional structure exhibited satisfactory reliability (ω = .88). A strong invariance solution demonstrated excellent fit across sex, age, tumor site, and survival. HHI exhibited substantial associations with resilience coping strategies and spiritual well-being. Conclusions: The findings of our study contribute to the diversity of earlier empirical findings regarding the construct of hope. Despite this, our results indicate that the Spanish version of the HHI is a short, easy-to-administer, valid, reliable tool for evaluating cancer patients' levels of hope.

ABSTRACT: Canine parvovirus 2 (CPV-2) is a highly contagious enteric virus that causes high morbidity and mortality, especially in dogs under six months of age. Recovery from this illness is dependent on several factors, including the patient’s prognosis for adequate therapy. The aim of this study was to evaluate the risk factors associated with the death outcome in CPV-2 positive dogs in a case-control study conducted at the Veterinary Hospital of the Universidade Federal de Lavras (HV-UFLA) in Lavras, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Twenty-six dogs with CPV-2 symptoms that arrived at the HV-UFLA between 2017 and 2018 were evaluated for inclusion in the study. Data on medical history, clinical signs, blood count and rapid test of parvovirus and faecal test for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) were collected for all the animals. All the dogs received treatment at the HV-UFLA, and the overall fatality rate due to canine parvovirus was 30.77%. Descriptive analysis and univariate and multivariate statistical analyses (logistic regression) were performed to assess the variables that were possibly associated with an unfavourable prognosis (death). In the univariate and multivariate analyses, Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS) was observed to be a significant risk factor for an unfavourable prognosis in canine parvovirus, as it increased the risk of death by 12.96 times (95% CI 1.85-133.70; P < 0.01) compared with patients who did not exhibit SIRS. Thus, SIRS was strongly associated with an unfavourable prognosis, suggesting that it can be used as a prognostic indicator for canine parvovirus in veterinary practice.

RESUMO: O parvovírus canino 2 (CPV-2) é um vírus entérico altamente contagioso que causa alta morbidade e mortalidade, principalmente em cães com menos de seis meses de idade. A recuperação desta doença é dependente de vários fatores, incluindo a determinação do prognóstico do paciente para terapia adequada. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar os fatores de risco associados ao desfecho óbito em cães com CPV-2 em um estudo de caso-controle realizado no Hospital Veterinário da Universidade Federal de Lavras (HV-UFLA), em Lavras, Minas Gerais. Vinte e seis cães com sintomas de CPV-2 que chegaram entre 2017 e 2018 ao HV-UFLA foram avaliados para inclusão no estudo. Dados sobre histórico médico, sinais clínicos, hemograma e teste rápido de parvovirose e fezes para reação em cadeia da polimerase (PCR) foram coletados para todos os animais. Todos os cães receberam tratamento estabelecido pelo HV-UFLA e a taxa geral de letalidade por parvovirose canina foi de 30,77%. Análise descritiva e análise estatística univariada e multivariada (regressão logística) foram utilizadas para avaliar variáveis possivelmente associadas a um prognóstico desfavorável (óbito). Na análise univariada e multivariada, a Síndrome da Resposta Inflamatória Sistêmica (SIRS) foi observada como fator de risco significativo para prognóstico desfavorável na parvovirose canina, pois aumentou 12,96 vezes o risco de morte (95% IC 1,85-133,70; P < 0,01) em comparação com aqueles pacientes que não apresentaram SIRS. Assim, a SIRS foi fortemente associada com um prognóstico desfavorável, sugerindo que pode ser utilizada como indicador prognóstico na parvovirose canina na prática veterinária.

ABSTRACT Background: Diet is one of the most important modifiable risk factors for the incidence of gastric cancer. Objective: To carry out an exploratory analysis on the dietary patterns of individuals with gastric adenocarcinoma (AdG) in the Central Brazil region. Methods: This is a case-control study carried out from April 2019 to July 2022, in three reference centers for cancer treatment in Goiânia-GO. The cases were patients diagnosed with AdG, the control 1 dyspeptic patients submitted to upper digestive endoscopy and the control 2 patients without gastric complaints. In the three groups, patients aged 18 to 75 years and of both sexes were recruited. To assess food consumption, a Food Frequency Questionnaire validated for the Brazilian population was used. Dietary patterns were identified by Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), using principal component analysis as the extraction method, followed by Varimax rotation. Results: The commonality values in the EFA for the foods/food groups consumed by the cases and controls were above 0.30 for all variables. The variance explained by the model was 66.7% for cases, 60.3% for control 1 and 59.7% for control 2. Three eating patterns were identified in cases, control 1 and control 2 that explained 34, 87%, 35.41% and 33.25% respectively of the total variance. The first pattern (“healthy”) was characterized by the consumption of vegetables, fruits, meat and cheese; the second (“unhealthy”) for sausages, pizzas, snacks, ketchup, sweet drinks and instant noodles and the third (“prudent”) rice, beans, meat and fried fish and pasta. Conclusion: This study identified three dietary patterns among patients with AdG and controls in the Central Brazil region. According to the identified patterns, it will be possible to establish a relationship between diet and other epidemiological measures aimed at the prevention of gastric cancer.

RESUMO Contexto: A dieta é um dos fatores de risco modificáveis mais importante para a incidência de câncer gástrico. Objetivo: Realizar uma análise exploratória sobre os padrões alimentares de indivíduos com adenocarcinoma gástrico (AdG) na região Brasil central. Métodos: Este é um estudo de caso-controle realizado no período de abril de 2019 a julho de 2022, em três centros de referência para o tratamento para câncer em Goiânia-GO. Os casos foram pacientes diagnosticados com AdG, o controle 1 pacientes dispépticos submetidos a endoscopia digestiva alta e o controle 2 pacientes sem queixas gástricas. Nos três grupos foram recrutados pacientes de 18 a 75 anos e de ambos os sexos. Para avaliar o consumo alimentar foi utilizado um Questionário de Frequência Alimentar validado para a população brasileira. Os padrões alimentares foram identificados por Análise Fatorial Exploratória (AFE), utilizando a análise de componentes principais como método de extração, seguida pela rotação Varimax. Resultados: Os valores de comunalidade na AFE para os alimentos/grupos alimentares consumidos pelos casos e controles ficaram acima de 0,30 para todas as variáveis. A variância explicada pelo modelo foi de 66,7%, para casos, 60,3% para o controle 1 e 59,7% para o controle 2. Foram identificados três padrões alimentares nos casos, controle 1 e controle 2 que explicaram 34,87%, 35,41% e 33,25% respectivamente da variância total. O primeiro padrão (“saudável”) foi caracterizado pelo consumo de vegetais, frutas, carne e queijos; o segundo (“não saudável”) por embutidos, pizzas, snacks, ketchup, bebidas doces e macarrão instantâneo e o terceiro (“prudente”) arroz, feijão, carnes e peixes fritos e massas. Conclusão: Esse estudo identificou três padrões alimentares entre os pacientes com AdG e os controles na região Brasil central. De acordo com os padrões identificados, será possível estabelecer uma relação entre a dieta e outras medidas epidemiológicas destinadas à prevenção do câncer gástrico.

Abstract Background Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a rare genetic disease that causes progressive muscle weakness and impacts motor function. The type I is the most severe presentation and affects infants before 6 months old. In addition, the instruments available for assessing motor function have limitations when applied to infants with neuromuscular diseases and significant muscle weakness. Objective To translate, cross-culturally adapt, and validate the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Infant Test of Neuromuscular Disorders (CHOP INTEND) to Brazilian Portuguese. Methods The present study comprised the translation, synthesis of translations, backtranslation, consolidation by a committee of experts, and test of the final version of the CHOP INTEND in 13 patients with SMA type I. We also assessed the content validity and reliability of the translated version. Results The scale was translated considering semantic, structural, idiomatic, and cultural aspects. All agreement rates were > 0.8, the overall content validity index of the instrument was 0.98, and inter-rater reliability using the intraclass correlation coefficient was 0.998. Conclusion The Brazilian version of the CHOP INTEND met semantic and technical equivalence criteria with the original version and was valid and reliable for patients with SMA type I.

Resumo Antecedentes A atrofia muscular espinhal (AME) é uma doença genética rara que provoca fraqueza muscular progressiva com impacto sobre a motricidade dos pacientes. A AME tipo I é considerada o tipo mais grave e acomete lactentes antes dos 6 meses de idade. As escalas disponíveis para avaliação das aquisições motoras mostram limitações para uso com crianças pequenas com doenças neuromusculares e fraqueza importante. Objetivo Realizar a tradução, adaptação transcultural e validação para a língua portuguesa do Brasil da Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Infant Test of Neuromuscular Disorders (CHOP INTEND, na sigla em inglês). Métodos O presente estudo seguiu as etapas de tradução, síntese das traduções, retrotradução, consolidação por comitê de especialistas e teste com 13 pacientes com AME tipo 1. Foi avaliada a validade de conteúdo e a confiabilidade do instrumento. Resultados A escala foi traduzida considerando os aspectos semânticos, estruturais, idiomáticos e culturais. Todas as taxas de concordância foram > 0,8. O índice de validade de conteúdo geral do instrumento foi de 0,98. A confiabilidade interavaliadores analisada através do coeficiente de correlação intraclasse (ICC, na sigla em inglês) demonstrou um valor de ICC = 0,998. Conclusão A versão da CHOP INTEND em português atende aos critérios de equivalência semântica e técnica em relação à versão original e apresenta validade de conteúdo e confiabilidade para seu uso na população de pacientes com AME tipo I.

ABSTRACT Objective: To update the recommendations to support decisions regarding the pharmacological treatment of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in Brazil. Methods: Experts, including representatives of the Ministry of Health and methodologists, created this guideline. The method used for the rapid development of guidelines was based on the adoption and/or adaptation of existing international guidelines (GRADE ADOLOPMENT) and supported by the e-COVID-19 RecMap platform. The quality of the evidence and the preparation of the recommendations followed the GRADE method. Results: Twenty-one recommendations were generated, including strong recommendations for the use of corticosteroids in patients using supplemental oxygen and conditional recommendations for the use of tocilizumab and baricitinib for patients on supplemental oxygen or on noninvasive ventilation and anticoagulants to prevent thromboembolism. Due to suspension of use authorization, it was not possible to make recommendations regarding the use of casirivimab + imdevimab. Strong recommendations against the use of azithromycin in patients without suspected bacterial infection, hydroxychloroquine, convalescent plasma, colchicine, and lopinavir + ritonavir and conditional recommendations against the use of ivermectin and remdesivir were made. Conclusion: New recommendations for the treatment of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 were generated, such as those for tocilizumab and baricitinib. Corticosteroids and prophylaxis for thromboembolism are still recommended, the latter with conditional recommendation. Several drugs were considered ineffective and should not be used to provide the best treatment according to the principles of evidence-based medicine and to promote resource economy.

RESUMO Objetivo: Atualizar as recomendações para embasar as decisões para o tratamento farmacológico de pacientes hospitalizados com COVID-19 no Brasil. Métodos: A elaboração desta diretriz foi feita por especialistas, incluindo representantes do Ministério da Saúde e metodologistas. O método utilizado para o desenvolvimento rápido de diretrizes baseou-se na adoção e/ou adaptação de diretrizes internacionais existentes (GRADE ADOLOPMENT) e contou com o apoio da plataforma e-COVID-19 RecMap. A qualidade das evidências e a elaboração das recomendações seguiram o método GRADE. Resultados: Chegaram-se a 21 recomendações, incluindo recomendações fortes quanto ao uso de corticosteroides em pacientes em uso de oxigênio suplementar e recomendações condicionais para o uso de tocilizumabe e baricitinibe, em pacientes com oxigênio suplementar ou ventilação não invasiva, e de anticoagulantes, para prevenção de tromboembolismo. Devido à suspensão da autorização de uso, não foi possível fazer recomendações para o tratamento com casirivimabe + imdevimabe. Foram feitas recomendações fortes contra o uso de azitromicina em pacientes sem suspeita de infecção bacteriana, hidroxicloroquina, plasma convalescente, colchicina e lopinavir + ritonavir, além de recomendações condicionais contra o uso de ivermectina e rendesivir. Conclusão: Foram criadas novas recomendações para o tratamento de pacientes hospitalizados com COVID-19, como as recomendações de tocilizumabe e baricitinibe. Ainda são recomendados corticosteroides e profilaxia contra tromboembolismo, esta em caráter condicional. Vários medicamentos foram considerados ineficazes e não devem ser usados, no intuito de proporcionar o melhor tratamento segundo os princípios da medicina baseada em evidências e promover a economia de recursos.

Abstract: Background: Patients referred for palliative care (PC) need the application of assessment instruments, such as the level of functionality. Objective: Identify the inpatient's sociodemographic and clinical characteristics and characterize their functional capacity. Methodology: A descriptive, longitudinal study of adult cancer patients in a CP unit (n=53) from March to June of 2022. The instruments FIM®, ECOG® and PPS® were applied at admission, on the 14th day of hospitalization and at discharge. Results: The 53 patients evaluated have an average age of 71 years, most of whom are male (64.2%) and have gastric carcinomas (17.0%). On admission, the patients who have reduced FIM values also have reduced PPS and ECOG values. From admission to the 14th day, there is a worsening of functionality. No patient received intervention from the Rehabilitation Nurse. Conclusion: The results demonstrate a decrease in functionality, requiring professionals to continuously monitor and readjust the advanced care plan.

Resumo: Enquadramento: Os doentes referenciados para cuidados paliativos (CP) carecem da aplicação de instrumentos de avaliação, tais como o nível de funcionalidade. Objetivo: Identificar as características sociodemográficas e clínicas do doente internado e caracterizar a sua capacidade funcional. Metodologia: Estudo descritivo, longitudinal de adultos oncológicos internados em CP (n=53) de Março a Junho de 2022. Os instrumentos MIF®, ECOG® e PPS®, foram aplicados na admissão, no 14º dia de internamento e na alta. Resultados: Os 53 doentes avaliados apresentam uma idade média de 71 anos, sendo a maioria masculinos (64,2%) e com carcinomas gástricos (17,0%). Na admissão, os doentes que apresentam valores da MIF reduzidos, apresentam também valores de PPS e ECOG diminutos. Da admissão ao 14º dia, verifica-se um agravamento da funcionalidade. Nenhum doente obteve intervenção por parte do Enfermeiro de Reabilitação. Conclusão: Os resultados demonstram um decréscimo da funcionalidade, exigindo dos profissionais um acompanhamento contínuo e um reajuste do plano avançado de cuidados.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Epilepsy and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are diseases with neuropsychiatric impairment, which, depending on their clinical presentation, can be treated with medical cannabis. The objective of this work is to present a brief review of the literature on the use of cannabinoids (CNB) in the management of ASD and epilepsy. CONTENTS: The elaboration of this review was made from search and selection. Searches were carried out in the following databases: LILACS, Medline via Pubmed, Scielo and Cochrane Library, published from January 2010 to December 2022. CONCLUSION: The use of CNB, both for epilepsy and for ASD, has been shown to be safe, however actual effectiveness has yet to be proven.

RESUMO JUSTIFICATIVA E OBJETIVOS: A epilepsia e o transtorno do espectro do autismo (TEA) são doenças com comprometimento neuropsiquiátrico, os quais, dependendo da sua apresentação clínica, podem ser tratados com a cannabis medicinal. O objetivo deste estudo foi apresentar uma breve revisão da literatura sobre o uso de canabinoides (CNB) no manejo do TEA e da epilepsia. CONTEÚDO: A elaboração desta revisão foi feita a partir de busca e seleção. Foram realizadas buscas nas bases de dados: LILACS, Medline via Pubmed, Scielo e Cochrane Library, publicados no período de janeiro de 2010 a dezembro de 2022. CONCLUSÃO: O uso dos CNB, tanto para epilepsia quanto para o TEA, tem se mostrado seguro, porém a real eficácia ainda não foi comprovada.

RESUMO OBJETIVO Estimar a soroprevalência de anticorpos do vírus SARS-CoV-2 em escolares de quatro a 14 anos de idade residentes no município de São Paulo, segundo variáveis clínicas, demográficas, epidemiológicas e sociais, durante o período de fechamento das escolas como medida de controle da covid-19. MÉTODOS Realizou-se um inquérito sorológico em setembro de 2020 com amostra aleatória estratificada por tipo de rede de ensino (pública municipal, pública estadual e privada). Foi coletada amostra de sangue venoso utilizando-se o teste de imunoensaio de fluxo lateral da fabricante Wondfo para detecção de anticorpos totais contra o vírus SARS-CoV-2. Aplicaram-se questionários semiestruturados para o levantamento de dados clínicos, demográficos, sociais e epidemiológicos. RESULTADOS A soroprevalência de anticorpos do vírus SARS-CoV-2 em escolares foi de 16,6% (IC95% 15,4–17,8). O estudo encontrou soroprevalências mais elevadas na rede pública municipal (18,5%; IC95% 16,6–20,6) e estadual (16,2%; IC95% 14,4–18,2) em relação à rede privada (11,7; IC95% 10,0–13,7) e entre escolares da raça/cor preta e parda (18,4%; IC95% 16,8–20,2) e no estrato social mais vulnerável (18,5%; IC95% 16,9–20,2). A pesquisa identificou menores soroprevalências nos escolares que relataram seguir as medidas recomendadas de proteção contra a covid-19. CONCLUSÃO A soroprevalência de anticorpos contra o vírus SARS-CoV-2 atinge principalmente os escolares socialmente mais vulneráveis. Este estudo pode contribuir para embasar políticas públicas que reforcem a importância da suspensão das aulas presenciais e da necessidade de estratégias de medidas de proteção e acompanhamento do status sorológico daqueles que ainda não foram contemplados no calendário vacinal.

ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE To estimate seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in schoolchildren aged 4 to 14 years living in the city of São Paulo, according to clinical, demographic, epidemiological, and social variables, during the school closure period as a measure against covid-19 spread. METHODS A serological survey was made in September 2020 with a random sample stratified by school system (municipal public, state public and private) type. A venous blood sample was collected using the Wondfo SARS-CoV-2 Antibody Test (lateral flow method) for detection of total SARS-CoV-2 virus antibodies. Semi-structured questionnaires were applied to collect clinical, demographic, social, and epidemiological data. RESULTS Seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in schoolchildren was of 16.6% (95%CI 15.4–17.8). The study found higher seroprevalence in the municipal (18.5%; 95%CI 16.6–20.6) and state (16.2%; 95%CI 14.4–18.2) public school systems compared to the private school system (11.7; 95%CI 10.0–13.7), among black and brown students (18.4%; 95%CI 16.8–20.2) and in the most vulnerable social stratum (18.5 %;95%CI 16.9–20.2). Lower seroprevalence was identified in schoolchildren who reported following the recommended protective measures against covid-19. CONCLUSION Seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies is found mainly in the most socially vulnerable schoolchildren. This study can contribute to support public policies that reinforce the importance of suspending face-to-face classes and developing strategies aimed at protective measures and monitoring of the serological status of those who have not yet been included in the vaccination schedule.

RESUMO OBJETIVOS Identificar e mapear a literatura referente à violência sexual contra meninos e homens brasileiros, bem como descrever sua subnotificação, sua prevalência e os fatores associados. MÉTODOS Realizou-se uma revisão de escopo com buscas nas bases de dados: PubMed, Biblioteca Digital Brasileira de Teses e Dissertações, Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde, Scopus e Web of Science. Os critérios de inclusão foram: (a) pesquisas que incluíssem dados sobre violência sexual; (b) inclusão de meninos ou homens como vítimas de violência sexual; (c) apresentassem dados sobre prevalência, subnotificação e fatores associados à violência sexual entre meninos e homens brasileiros. RESULTADOS Foram encontrados 1.481 trabalhos. No total, 53 foram incluídos e tiveram seus dados extraídos. A maioria dos estudos é de natureza quantitativa (n = 48). O total de participantes em todos os estudos foi de 1.416.480 e a prevalência de violência sexual variou de 0.1% a 71%. A subnotificação foi um aspecto citado em vários estudos. Entre os grupos com maiores prevalências estão os homens que fazem sexo com homens e com disfunções sexuais. Maior tendência ao uso de drogas, isolamento social, sexo anal desprotegido, ideação suicida, disfunções sexuais e transtorno de estresse pós-traumático foram alguns dos fatores associados. CONCLUSÕES A violência sexual contra meninos e homens brasileiros é pouco estudada e existem poucos estudos com esse recorte exclusivo, apesar da prevalência de a violência sexual ser alta. Questões culturais, como o machismo, contribuem para a subnotificação da violência sexual. Em relação aos fatores associados, identificamos questões relacionadas à saúde mental, sexual e reprodutiva. Recomenda-se que seja estruturado acolhimento para meninos e homens vítimas de violência sexual, prevenindo ou minimizando desfechos negativos.

ABSTRACT OBJECTIVES Identifying and mapping the literature regarding sexual violence against Brazilian boys and men, as well as describing its underreporting, prevalence, and associated factors. METHODS We conducted a scoping review by searching PubMed, Biblioteca Digital Brasileira de Teses e Dissertações, Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde, Scopus, and Web of Science databases. The inclusion criteria were: (a) surveys including data on sexual violence; (b) inclusion of boys or men as victims of sexual violence; (c) presenting statistical data on prevalence, underreporting, and factors associated with sexual violence among Brazilian boys and men. RESULTS We found a total of 1,481 papers. Ultimately, 53 were included and had their data extracted. Most studies are quantitative in nature (n = 48). The total number of participants across studies was 1,416,480 and the prevalence of sexual violence ranged from 0.1% to 71%. It is important to note that underreporting statistical data was cited in several studies. The group with the highest prevalences was men who have sex with men and those with sexual dysfunctions. Increased tendency to drug use, social isolation, unprotected anal sex, suicidal ideation, sexual dysfunction, and post-traumatic stress disorder were statistically significant predictors for having experienced sexual violence. CONCLUSIONS Despite the prevalence of sexual violence being high against Brazilian boys and men, this area of is surprisingly understudied and there are few studies with this exclusive scope. Social cultural issues, such as sexism, contribute to the underreporting of sexual violence. Additionally, we identified issues related to mental, sexual and reproductive health to be associated with sexual violence. Based on our findings, we recommend the implementation and development of a structural infrastructure aimed at supporting boys and men who are victims of sexual violence, and preventing negative outcomes for this affected group.

Abstract Objective: To assess factors associated with emotional changes and Hyperactivity/Inattention (HI) motivated by COVID-19 quarantine in adolescents with immunocompromising diseases. Methods: A cross-sectional study included 343 adolescents with immunocompromising diseases and 108 healthy adolescents. Online questionnaires were answered including socio-demographic data and self-rated healthcare routine during COVID-19 quarantine and validated surveys: Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory 4.0 (PedsQL4.0). Results: The frequencies of abnormal emotional SDQ scores from adolescents with chronic diseases were similar to those of healthy subjects (110/343 [32%] vs. 38/108 [35%], p = 0.548), as well as abnormal hyperactivity/inattention SDQ scores (79/343 [23%] vs. 29/108 [27%], p = 0.417). Logistic regression analysis of independent variables associated with abnormal emotional scores from adolescents with chronic diseases showed: female sex (Odds Ratio [OR = 3.76]; 95% Confidence Interval (95% CI) 2.00–7.05; p < 0.001), poor sleep quality (OR = 2.05; 95% CI 1.08–3.88; p = 0.028) and intrafamilial violence during pandemic (OR = 2.17; 95% CI 1.12–4.19; p = 0.021) as independently associated with abnormal emotional scores, whereas total PedsQL score was inversely associated with abnormal emotional scores (OR = 0.95; 95% CI 0.93–0.96; p < 0.0001). Logistic regression analysis associated with abnormal HI scores from patients evidenced that total PedsQL score (OR = 0.97; 95% CI 0.95–0.99; p = 0.010], changes in medical appointments during the pandemic (OR = 0.39; 95% CI 0.19–0.79; p = 0.021), and reliable COVID-19 information (OR = 0.35; 95% CI 0.16–0.77; p = 0.026) remained inversely associated with abnormal HI scores. Conclusion: The present study showed emotional and HI disturbances in adolescents with chronic immunosuppressive diseases during the COVID-19 pandemic. It reinforces the need to promptly implement a longitudinal program to protect the mental health of adolescents with and without chronic illnesses during future pandemics.

Abstract This study evaluated the construct validity of the instrument Oral Health Literacy among diabetics. A probabilistic random sample of 239 diabetics from an infinite population answered the 10 items of the questionnaire. The structural validity was assessed by confirmatory factor analysis and goodness of fit, chi-square per degrees of freedom ratio (X2/df), comparative fit index (CFI), goodness-of-fit index (GFI), and root-mean-square error of approximation (RMSEA). Internal consistency was estimated by the average variance extracted (AVE) and composite reliability (CR). The scores were dichotomized with the upper limit of the 95% confidence interval as the cutoff point. The three-dimensional model presented good quality parameters (X2 /df = 2.459; CFI = 0.988; TLI = 0.981) and poor RMSEA (0.078). Internal consistency was adequate; AVE for the Access, Understand/appraise, and Apply subscales were 0.831, 0.981, and 0.954 and the CR for these subscales were 0.893, 0.962, and 0.822, respectively. Inadequate literacy ranged from 41.8 to 48.1%. The three-dimensional model identified (access, understand/appraise, and apply) showed structural validity, good internal consistency, and understandability.
