RESUMEN El algodón es un cultivo de gran importancia económica en todo el mundo. En Colombia las siembras han aumentado en los últimos años; no obstante, existen prácticas agronómicas que favorecen la degradación del suelo. El objetivo del trabajo fue evaluar la respuesta morfofisiológica y productiva de cuatro variedades de algodón, bajo el efecto de dos sistemas de labranza en condiciones de Armero-guayabal, Colombia. La investigación se realizó en el Centro Universitario Regional Norte (CURDN) de la Universidad del Tolima. El diseño experimental fue en parcelas subdivididas con bloques al azar con cuatro repeticiones. En la parcela principal se ubicó una labranza mínima (LM) y otra tradicional (LT) (reducida para LM usando arado de cincel y una labranza con volteo del suelo, con uso de rastra y rastrillo para LT). Las variedades manejadas fueron: RR, Nuopal RR, FM 9063 y FM9171Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis). Los resultados se sometieron al Análisis de Varianza (ANOVA) y pruebas de comparación de medias de Tukey y Bonferroni (p≤0,05). Los procesos de rotación de gramíneas y oleaginosas, en manejos agronómicos a largo plazo, presentan cambios significativos en la fertilidad potencial y efectiva edáfica, así como también, en los procesos de conservación, calidad y salud del suelo, en una zona históricamente con problemas edáficos en prácticas deficientes de laboreo.

ABSTRACT Cotton is a crop of great economic importance throughout the world. In Colombia, plantings have increased in recent years; however, there are agronomic practices that favor soil degradation. The objective of the work was to evaluate the morphophysiological and productive response of four cotton varieties, under the effect of two tillage systems under conditions of Armero-guayabal, Colombia. The research was conducted at the North Regional University Center (CURDN) of the University of Tolima. The experimental design was sub-divided plots with randomized blocks with four replications. In the main plot, a minimum tillage (LM) and a traditional one (LT) were located (reduced for LM using a chisel plow and tillage with soil turning, with the use of a harrow and a rake for LT). The varieties managed were: RR, Nuopal RR, FM 9063 and FM9171Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis). The results were submitted to the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Tukey and Bonferroni tests for comparison of means (p≤0.05). The processes of rotation of grasses and oilseeds, in long-term agronomic management, present significant changes in the potential and effective edaphic fertility, as well as in the processes of conservation, quality and health of the soil, in an area historically with edaphic problems in poor tillage practices.

Abstract Perdomo O.; A. Lizcano & E. T. Trujillo. 2020. First record of Myoxanthus xiphion (Orchidaceae, Pleurothallidinae) from Colombia. Darwiniana, nueva serie 8(1): 395-401. We recorded Myoxanthus xiphion for the first time in Colombia from a population found in the Andean-Amazonian Foothills of the department of Caquetá, at 1075 m a.s.l., 260 km to the north from the known populations in Ecuador. With this species, the genus Myoxanthus reaches 18 species in Colombia, most of them growing in the Andes. For the Colombian Andean-Amazonian Foothills five Myoxanthus species are recorded, including M. xiphion, distributed in the departments of Caquetá, Cauca, Nariño and Putumayo. Myoxanthus xiphion was known before only in Bolivia and Ecuador, but its distribution may be extended throughout all the Andean-Amazon Foothills from Bolivia to Colombia. We present a description of M. xiphion, photographs, a map with the populations recorded until today, and a key to identify the Myoxanthus species of the Andean-Amazonian Foothills from Colombia.

Registramos Myoxanthus xiphion por primera vez en Colombia mediante una población encontrada en el Piedemonte Andino-Amazónico del departamento del Caquetá, a 1075 m s.m., 260 km al norte de las poblaciones conocidas en Ecuador. Con esta adición el género Myoxanthus llega a 18 especies en Colombia, la mayoría de ellas creciendo en la cordillera de los Andes. Para el Piedemonte Andino- Amazónico colombiano hay registradas cinco especies de Myoxanthus, incluyendo M. xiphion, distribuidas en los departamentos de Caquetá, Cauca, Nariño y Putumayo. Myoxanthus xiphion era conocida solo en Bolivia y Ecuador, pero su distribución puede extenderse por todo el Piedemonte Andino-Amazónico desde Bolivia hasta Colombia. Presentamos una descripción de M. xiphion, fotografías, un mapa con las poblaciones registradas hasta hoy y una clave para identificar las especies de Myoxanthus del Piedemonte Andino-Amazónico de Colombia.

A potential strategy to combat obesity and its associated complications involves modifying gene expression in adipose cells to reduce lipid accumulation. The nuclear receptor Peroxisome Proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) is the master regulator of adipose cell differentiation and its functional activation is currently used as a therapeutic approach for Diabetes Mellitus type 2. However, total activation of PPARγ induces undesirable secondary effects that might be set with a partial activation. A group of proteins that produce histone demethylation has been shown to modify the transcriptional activity of nuclear receptors. Here we describe the repressive action of the jumonji domain containing 2C/lysine demethylase 4 C (JMJD2C/KDM4C) on PPARγ transcriptional activation. JMJD2C significantly reduced the rosiglitazone stimulated PPARγ activation. This effect was mainly observed in experiments performed using the Tudor domains that may interact with histone deacetylase class 1 (HDAC) and this interaction probably reduces the mediated activation of PPARγ. Trichostatin A, a HDAC inhibitor, reduces the repressive effect of JMJD2C. When JMJD2C was over-expressed in 3T3-L1 cells, a reduction of differentiation was observed with the Tudor domain. In summary, we herein describe JMJD2C-mediated reduction of PPARgamma transcriptional activation as well as preadipocyte differentiation. This novel action of JMJD2C might have an important role in new therapeutic approaches to treat obesity and its complications.

Introducción: La grasa infrapatelar de Hoffa es una inclusión infraarticular presente en la rodilla y existen evidencias que células multipotentes están presentes en tejido adiposo del humano adulto. Objetivo: El propósito de este trabajo es aislar e identificar células mesenquimales a partir de muestras de la grasa de Hoffa tomadas de pacientes a los que se les practicó cirugía de rodilla que expongan este tejido. Metodología: Una vez obtenido el consentimiento informado de un total de 12 pacientes, se obtuvo la muestra de tejido graso. La grasa fue disgregada incubándola en colagenasa en PBS a 37°C y con agitación, luego se inactivo con suero fetal bovino, se separaron mediante centrifugación los adipocitos maduros de las células multipotentes y se obtuvieron las muestras para sembrar en medio Mesencult. Una porción de muestra fue utilizada para identificación mediante citometría de flujo y otra parte para ser coloreada con azul de metileno. Resultados y Discusión: Tanto en las tinciones con azul de metileno como en los cultivos celulares se han apreciado células con la morfología propia de una célula mesenquimal en forma de estrella y que fueron corroborados mediante citometría de flujo para los marcadores CD13, CD29, CD59 y CD105; igualmente hemos podido observar la efectividad del tratamiento enzimático. Conclusiones: En la actualidad nos encontramos consolidando los cultivos primarios para posteriormente diferenciarlos en líneas celulares específicas que puedan ser utilizadas en estudios de patologías, tales como obesidad, diabetes y trastornos articulares.

Introduction: The infrapatellar fat pad (sometimes know Hoffa's pad) is a soft tissue that lies beneath the patella (kneecap) separating it from the femoral condyle. There is evidence suggesting the presence of stem cells on adipose tissue in the adult human. Objective: The purpose of this work is to isolate and identify grown stem cells from Hoffa's fat samples obtained from patients undergoing surgeries exposing this tissue. Materials and Methods: After obtaining informed consent, the biopsy of Hoffa's fat pad was obtained. The samples were incubated with collagenase and PBS a 37 °C and agitated, then it was inactivated with fetal bovine serum and centrifuged, washed twice with PBS, the pellet was resuspended and one part was cultivated on Mesencult medium the other part was used for flow cytometry and stained with methylene blue for morphologic analysis. Also before and after the enzyme digestion, the samples were added to 10% formaldehyde to evaluate the collagenase treatment. Results and analysis: The results show the effectiveness of the enzymatic treatment, the architecture of the adipose tissue was lost. The star shape stem cells morphology was appreciated with methylene blue in the cultures, it was corroborated by flow cytometry with CD13, CD29, CD59 and CD 105 markers. Conclusions: Primary cultures are consolidating, the next aim will be to obtain differentiated specific cell types that can be use in the study of obesity, diabetes and articular illnesses.
