Resumen Introducción : Se ha descrito que alteraciones molecu lares de las células foliculares tiroideas en el gen BRAF o en NRAS están asociadas con el proceso de carcinogé nesis. Nuestro objetivo fue conocer la frecuencia muta cional de BRAF y NRAS a partir de muestras de punción aspirativa con aguja fina (PAAF) en nuestra población. Métodos : Se analizó por qPCR el estado mutacional de BRAF (codón 600) y NRAS (codón 61) de 193 mues tras obtenidas por PAAF de nódulos sospechosos y se comparó con los datos de la anatomía patológica de 115 pacientes. Resultados : La mutación BRAF se identificó en 40 muestras (74.1%) de las punciones categorizadas como Bethesda VI (n = 54). En las muestras que se correspon dieron con carcinoma papilar de tiroides (CPT) variante clásica por histología (n = 47), el 70% presentó la muta ción, mientras que en los otros subtipos la prevalencia fue más baja (p = 0.013). En muestras de lesión folicular (n = 36), el 50% de los carcinomas foliculares resultaron positivos para NRAS pero solo el 6.7% de los adenomas presentaron esta variación. La presencia de mutación BRAF y CPT se asociaron con metástasis en los gan glios linfáticos (p = 0.014) y mayor riesgo relativo de recurrencia según el Consenso Argentino Intersocietario (RR = 6.77, p = 0.022). No hubo diferencias significativas entre la mutación de BRAF y otras características de agresividad en CPT. Conclusión : La mutación de BRAF y NRAS se observa en un número significativo de CPT y carcinoma folicular, respectivamente, en nuestra población. La mutación BRAF se correlaciona significativamente con metástasis en los ganglios linfáticos.

Abstract Introduction : Molecular alterations in follicular cells in the BRAF or NRAS genes have been reported to be associated with the process of carcinogenesis. Our aim was to determine the mutational frequency of BRAF and NRAS in fine-needle aspiration (FNA) specimens in our population. Methods : The mutational status of BRAF (codon 600) and NRAS (codon 61) was analysed by qPCR in 193 FNA specimens from suspicious nodules and compared with pathological data of 115 patients. Results : BRAF mutation was identified in 40 samples (74.1%) of FNAs classified as Bethesda VI (n = 54). In samples histologically diagnosed as classic papillary thyroid carcinoma (cPTC, n = 47), mutation was observed in 70% of cases, while in other subtypes the prevalence was lower (p = 0.013). In FNA specimens of follicular lesions (n = 36), positivity for NRAS was found in 50% of the follicular carcinomas (FTCs), but only in 6.7% of adenomas. Finally, there was a significant correlation between BRAF and PTC with lymph-node metastasis (p = 0.014) and increased relative risk of recurrence based on the Argentine Intersociety Consensus (RR = 6.77, p = 0.022). No significant differences were found between BRAF mutation and other features of aggressiveness in PTC. Conclusion : BRAF and NRAS mutations are observed in a significant number of PTCs and FTCs, in our popu lation. There is a significant correlation between BRAF mutation and lymph-node metastasis.

Objectives: Religiosity and spirituality (R/S) have been negatively associated with several mental health problems, including delinquency. The study aimed to investigate the relationship between R/S and interpersonal violence using a systematic review. Methods: We conducted a descriptive systematic review followed by meta-analyses using seven different databases. We included observational studies that assessed the relationship between R/S and different types of interpersonal violence (physical and sexual aggression and domestic violence). Results: A total of 16,599 articles were screened in the databases and, after applying the eligibility criteria, 67 were included in the systematic review and 43 were included in the meta-analysis. The results showed that higher levels of R/S were significantly associated with decreased physical and sexual aggression, but not domestic violence. All selected studies evidenced sufficient methodological quality, with 26.8% being cohort studies. In the subanalyses, the role of R/S was more prevalent among adolescents. Conclusion: There is an inverse relationship between R/S and physical and sexual aggression, suggesting a protective role. However, these results were not observed for domestic violence. Healthcare professionals and managers should be aware of their patients’ beliefs when investigating interpersonal violence to create tailored interventions for reducing violent behavior.

Aim The aim of the present study is to assess the perception of undergraduate students on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Brazilian dental education. Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted using an online questionnaire hosted in Google Forms platform and publicized on Instagram® and Facebook®. The questionnaire was available between July 8-27, 2020. Absolute and relative frequencies were obtained for variables of interest using Pearson’s chi-squared and considering 95% confidence intervals. Prevalence of learning resource variables according to self-reported skin color, educational institution, and Brazilian region were presented using equiplots. Results A total of 1,050 undergraduate dental students answered the questionnaire. Most students reported being in full-distance learning mode. Among the undergraduate students, 65.4% reported perceiving a very high impact in dental education, and 16.6% of students reported not being able to follow distance learning. In addition, 14% reported not having a personal laptop or desktop to study with, with this condition being more prevalent among non-white than white individuals. Conclusion We conclude that Brazilian dental students perceived a high impact of COVID-19 on dental education, as well as one-sixth of the students reported not having adequate resources to continue with distance learning. It is important that different policies are developed at the institutional and governmental levels to reduce the impact of the pandemic on dental education.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Since the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, cardiac surgeries in patients with previous infection by COVID-19 were suspended or postponed, which led to surgeries performed in patients with an advanced stage of their disease and an increase in the waiting list. There is a heterogeneous attitude in Latin America on the optimal timing to cardiac surgery in patients with previous COVID-19 infection due to scarce data on its outcome. Two Latin American associations joined to establish common suggestions on the optimal timing of surgery in patients with previous COVID-19 infection. Methods: Data collection was performed using a pre-established form, which included year of publication, objective, type of study (prospective/retrospective, descriptive/analytical), number of patients, year of study, waiting time between infection and surgery, type of surgery, morbidity, mortality, and conclusions regarding the association between mortality and morbidity. Final recommendations were approved by the board of directors of Latin American Association of Cardiac and Endovascular Surgery (LACES) and Latin American Confederation of Anesthesia Societies (CLASA). Results: Of the initial 1,016 articles, 11 comprised the final selection. Only six of them included patients who underwent cardiac surgery. According to the analyzed literature, optimal timing for cardiac surgery needs to consider the following aspects: deferable surgery, symptomatic COVID-19 infection, completeness of COVID-19 vaccination. Conclusion: These recommendations derive from the analysis of the scarce literature published at present on outcomes after cardiac surgery in patients with previous COVID-19 infection. These are to be taken as a dynamic recommendation in which Latin American reality was taken into consideration.

Abstract The ionospheric investigations have improved our understanding of the space weather role in the upper atmosphere conditions, particularly at higher latitudes where the geospace phenomena print their signatures. The simultaneous observations using multi-instruments have improved our knowledge of the coupling processes inside the ionosphere, and their connection with the magnetosphere and neutral atmosphere processes under the space weather phenomena. The ionosphere probing at EACF started on 1986 using an analogical very low frequency (VLF) system, and after the year 2004 using digital VLF system, global navigation satellite system (GNSS), riometers and Canadian digital ionosonde (CADI). This paper presents the different radio techniques that have been used at Brazilian Antarctic Station Comandante Ferraz (EACF) to characterize the ionospheric conditions, and the highlights of the studies using multi-instrument observations performed in the last few decades.

Resumo A Flora do Espírito Santo possui três espécies da Tribo Helieae (Gentianaceae), circunscritas nos gêneros Prepusa, com duas espécies, e Senaea, com apenas uma espécie. Essas espécies pouco conhecidas são aqui descritas e ilustradas, e tiveram discutidos seus caracteres diagnósticos e suas semelhanças com outras espécies. Além disso, este artigo fornece uma chave de identificação para as espécies e mapas de distribuição geográfica de todas as espécies de Prepusa e Senaea da Flora do Espírito Santo, bem como comentários adicionais sobre seus status de conservação.

Abstract The Flora of Espírito Santo presents three species of Helieae (Gentianaceae), circumscribed in the genera Prepusa, with two species, and Senaea with only one species. These poorly known species are described and illustrated here, and had their diagnostic characters and their similarities with other species discussed. In addition, this paper provides an emended key for species and geographic distribution maps of all species of Prepusa and Senaea from Flora of Espírito Santo, with additional comments on their conservation status.

ABSTRACT Introduction: The COVID-19 quarantine has greatly affected university students in Peru, generating a series of physical, psychological and behavioral effects. Objective: To determine the factors associated with anxiety, depression, somatization and experiential avoidance in peruvian university students quarantined by COVID-19. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was carried out. The sample was made up of 1264 university students from various departments of Peru, anxiety, depression, somatization and experiential avoidance were taken as dependent variables, which were evaluated with the questionnaire "The Inventory of unadjusted psychosocial behavior, in the presence of COVID-19 in the Peruvian population ”and the AAQ II, for the statistical analysis the chi square was used. Results: More than half of the university students in Peru present between 3 and 6 of the 6 anxiety indicators, and this same number of depression indicators is presented by 45% of the sample. 30% of the sample has between 3 and 6 indicators of somatization and 40.3% of the sample is located in the middle upwards on the experiential avoidance scale. Conclusions: There are differences in the levels of anxiety, somatization and experiential avoidance between men and women, it was also found that older students had lower levels of anxiety, depression and experiential avoidance, but not in somatization.

RESUMEN Introducción: La cuarentena por COVID-19 ha afectado de gran manera a los estudiantes universitarios del Perú, generando una serie de efectos físicos, psicológicos y conductuales. Objetivo: Determinar los factores asociados a ansiedad, depresión, somatización y evitación experiencial en estudiantes universitarios del Perú en cuarentena por COVID-19. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio observacional transversal. La muestra estuvo constituida por 1264 estudiantes universitarios de diversos departamentos del Perú, se tomó como variables dependientes a la ansiedad, depresión, somatización y evitación experiencial, las cuales se evaluaron con el cuestionario de “El Inventario de comportamiento psicosocial desajustado, ante la presencia del COVID-19 en la población peruana” y el AAQ II, para el análisis estadístico se empleó el chi cuadrado. Resultados: Más de la mitad de los estudiantes universitarios del Perú, presenta entre 3 y 6 de los 6 indicadores de ansiedad, y este mismo número de indicadores de depresión lo presenta el 45% de la muestra. El 30 % de la muestra presenta entre 3 y 6 indicadores de somatización y el 40,3% de la muestra se ubica de la mitad hacia arriba en la escala de evitación experiencial. Conclusiones: Existen diferencias en los niveles de ansiedad, somatización y evitación experiencial entre varones y mujeres, asimismo se encontró que los estudiantes de mayor edad presentaban niveles más bajos de ansiedad, depresión y evitación experiencial, pero no en somatización.

Abstract: This paper analyses a set of Jorge Romero Brest texts, published in the Argentinean journal Revista de la Educación Física between 1928 and 1930. Those papers look for the aesthetic character of sport from a dialogue with different areas such as Education, Philosophy, Art and Physical Education. Mobilizing knowledge and his own métier as a teacher of this discipline, as well as an art critic, those works present a singular point of view of the sports phenomenon even in the early first decades of the 20th century, showing its potential as an aesthetic artefact, as a way for emotions and forms.

Resumen: En el presente trabajo se analizan un conjunto de textos del argentino Jorge Romero Brest publicados en la Revista de la Educación Física entre 1928 y 1930. Los artículos por él escritos abordan la temática del carácter estético del deporte a partir de un dialogo con diferentes áreas como la Educación, Filosofía, Arte y la propia Educación Física. Movilizando conocimientos y su propia formación como profesor de esta disciplina, así como de crítico de arte, los artículos presentan una lectura singular del fenómeno deportivo inclusive en las primeras décadas del siglo XX, mostrando su potencial de artefacto estético, tanto en el sentido de producción de emociones cuanto de formas.

Resumo: O presente trabalho trata da análise de um conjunto de textos do argentino Jorge Romero Brest, publicados na Revista de la Educación Física entre os anos 1928 e 1930. Os artigos em questão pautam o tema do caráter estético do esporte a partir do diálogo com diferentes áreas como a educação, filosofia, arte e a própria educação física. Mobilizando conhecimentos e a sua formação como professor desta disciplina, bem como de crítico de arte, os textos apresentam uma leitura singular do fenômeno esportivo ainda nas primeiras décadas do século XX, mostrando seu potencial de artefato estético, tanto no sentido da produção de emoção quanto de forma.

ABSTRACT Objective: Determine the antimicrobial properties of the incorporation of copper and zinc oxide nanoparticles into a total rinse and etch adhesive against Streptococcus mutans in patients with composite resin restorations made with loaded adhesive. Methods: A randomized clinical study was conducted of 25 patients of both sexes from the orthodontics graduate course taught at the Dental School of the University of Chile, in whom the presence of Streptococcus mutans was confirmed in saliva. Occlusal composite resin restorations were performed in upper premolars with exodontia indicated as part of the orthodontic treatment, using loaded adhesive (composition 5 / 0.2% ZnO and Cu, respectively) and control (without nanoparticles in its composition), according to the randomization list. Microbiological samples were taken at three moments applying the tray technique (before, 1 week after and 4 weeks after the restorations). Streptococcus mutans were obtained, isolated and identified from the samples taken. Data analysis was based on the Mann-Whitney test. Results: Mean Streptococcus mutans CFU count in the experimental group was higher after the composite resin restorations were made. Results of PCR molecular identification show the presence of Streptococcus mutans in 20 of 25 samples. Conclusions: No differences were found in the Streptococcus mutans count before and after application of the adhesive over the composite resin restorations.

RESUMEN Objetivo: Determinar las propiedades antimicrobianas de la incorporación de nanopartículas de óxido de zinc y cobre en un adhesivo de grabado y lavado total sobre Streptococcus mutans en pacientes con restauraciones de resina compuesta confeccionadas con adhesivo cargado. Métodos: Este estudio clínico randomizado, participaron 25 pacientes, de ambos sexos, pertenecientes al posgrado de Ortodoncia de la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad de Chile, en los cuales se confirmó presencia de Streptococcus mutans en saliva. Se confeccionaron restauraciones de resina compuesta oclusales, en premolares superiores con indicación de exodoncia por el tratamiento de ortodoncia, con adhesivo cargado (cuya composición es 5 / 0.2 % ZnO y Cu respectivamente) y control (sin presencia de nanopartículas en su composición), según el listado de aleatorización. Se tomaron muestras microbiológicas en tres tiempos con la Técnica de la cubeta (antes, 1 semana y 4 semanas posterior a la confección de las restauraciones). Se obtuvieron, aislaron e identificaron colonias de Streptococcus mutans a partir de las muestras obtenidas. Los datos fueron analizados por el test de Mann Whittney. Resultados: El promedio del recuento de UFC (unidades formadoras de colonias) de Streptococcus mutans en el grupo experimental fue mayor posterior a la confección de las restauraciones de resina compuesta.Los resultados de la identificación molecular por PCR demuestran la presencia de Streptococcus mutans en 20 de 25 muestras. Conclusiones: No existen diferencias en el recuento de Streptococcus mutans antes y después de la aplicación del adhesivo sobre las restauraciones de resina compuesta.

ABSTRACT Objective: To determine the antimicrobial properties of the incorporation of zinc and copper oxide nanoparticles in an etching and total wash adhesive on Streptococcus mutans in patients with composite resin restorations made with loaded adhesive. Methods: Experimental and randomized trial, the sample were 25 patients, of both sexes, belonging to the FOUCH Orthodontic postgraduate program, in whom the presence of Streptococcus mutans in saliva was confirmed. Occlusal composite resin restorations were made in upper premolars with indication of extraction by orthodontic treatment, with loaded adhesive (whose composition is 5 / 0.2% ZnO and Cu respectively) and control (without the presence of nanoparticles in their composition), according to the scrambling listing. Microbiological samples were taken in three stages with the cuvette technique (before, 1 week and 4 weeks after the restoration was made). Colonies of Streptococcus mutans were obtained, isolated and identified from the samples obtained. The statistical analysis used the SPSS v.21 software, the data was analyzed by Mann Whitney test Results: The average CFU count of Streptococcus mutans in the experimental group (adhesive modified with zinc oxide and copper nanoparticles) was higher after the fabrication of composite resin restorations. The results of molecular identification by PCR demonstrate the presence of Streptococcus mutans in 20 of 25 samples. Conclusions: There are no differences in the count of Streptococcus mutans before and after the application of the adhesive on the composite resin restorations.

RESUMEN Objetivo: Determinar las propiedades antimicrobianas de la incorporación de nanopartículas de óxido de zinc y cobre en un adhesivo de grabado y lavado total sobre Streptococcus mutans en pacientes con restauraciones de resina compuesta confeccionadas con adhesivo cargado. Métodos: Estudio experimental, randomizado, la muestra estuvo conformada por 25 pacientes, de ambos sexos, pertenecientes al posgrado de Ortodoncia de la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad de Chile, en los cuales se confirmó presencia de Streptococcus mutans en saliva. Se confeccionaron restauraciones de resina compuesta oclusales, en premolares superiores con indicación de exodoncia por el tratamiento de ortodoncia, con adhesivo cargado (cuya composición fue 5/0,2 % ZnO y Cu, respectivamente) y control (sin presencia de nanopartículas en su composición), según el listado de aleatorización. Se tomaron muestras microbiológicas en tres tiempos con la técnica de la cubeta (antes, 1 semana y 4 semanas posterior a la confección de las restauraciones). RESUMO Introdução: Os estudos neurofisiológicos são métodos auxiliares para compreender melhor as características e a natureza dos distúrbios do movimento. A eletromiografia (EMG), em associação com o eletroencefalograma (EEG) e o acelerômetro, podem ser utilizados para avaliar um espectro de movimentos hipo e hipercinéticos. Técnicas específicas podem ser aplicadas para melhor caracterizar a fenomenologia, ajudar a distinguir a origem psicogênica da orgânica e avaliar o local mais provável de geração do movimento no sistema nervoso. Objetivo: Pretendemos fornecer ao clínico uma atualização sobre ferramentas neurofisiológicas úteis para avaliar distúrbios do movimento na prática clínica. Métodos: Revisão não sistemática da literatura publicada até junho de 2019. Resultados: Uma diversidade de protocolos foi encontrada e descrita. Dentre eles, inclui-se o uso de EMG para a definição do padrão de distonia, mioclonia, mioquimia, miorritmia e painfull legs moving toes, além do uso de EMG em associação ao acelerômetro para avaliar tremor e, em associação ao EEG para avaliar mioclonia. Ademais, técnicas para medida indireta de excitabilidade cortical e do tronco encefálico ajudam a descrever e diagnosticar a fisiologia anormal da doença de Parkinson, parkinsonismo atípico, distonia e mioclonia. Conclusão: Esses estudos podem ser úteis para o diagnóstico e geralmente são subutilizados na prática neurológica.

ABSTRACT Background: Neurophysiological studies are ancillary tools to better understand the features and nature of movement disorders. Electromyography (EMG), together with electroencephalography (EEG) and accelerometer, can be used to evaluate a hypo and hyperkinetic spectrum of movements. Specific techniques can be applied to better characterize the phenomenology, help distinguish functional from organic origin and assess the most probable site of the movement generator in the nervous system. Objective: We intend to provide an update for clinicians on helpful neurophysiological tools to assess movement disorders in clinical practice. Methods: Non-systematic review of the literature published up to June 2019. Results: A diversity of protocols was found and described. These include EMG analyses to define dystonia, myoclonus, myokymia, myorhythmia, and painful legs moving toes pattern; EMG in combination with accelerometer to study tremor; and EEG-EMG to study myoclonus. Also, indirect measures of cortical and brainstem excitability help to describe and diagnose abnormal physiology in Parkinson's disease, atypical parkinsonism, dystonia, and myoclonus. Conclusion: These studies can be helpful for the diagnosis and are usually underutilized in neurological practice.

Abstract The diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide (DLCO) is, after spirometry the standard and noninvasive pulmonary function test of greater clinical use. However, there are substantial errors in the interpretation of the physiological significance of the DLCO, its derived measures and, therefore the clinical significance of its alterations. In addition to the use of different nomenclatures, other sources of confusion have contributed to some negative view of the test. The technical aspects of the DLCO test have the advantage of being well standardized. But unlike what happens with other pulmonary function tests where we have reference values which allow us to determine their “normality or abnormality”, it is difficult to apply this route of analysis in the case of DLCO. The central fact in the analysis of DLCO, transference factor for CO (KCO), and alveolar volume (VA) is that for a correct interpretation it is necessary to think about the mechanism by which the pathology induces change. A KCO of 100% can be considered normal in some circumstances or pathological in others and, for the moment, the automated study report cannot discriminate. This article will address the principles of the DLCO test; present different models of analysis submit concrete examples and provide guidelines for their correct interpretation. It is considered essential to carry out an integrated analysis of the DLCO test in relation to other functional tests and clinical data.

Resumen La capacidad de difusión de monóxido de carbono (DLCO) es, después de la espirometría, la prueba de función pulmonar rutinaria y no invasiva de mayor utilidad clínica. No obstante, hay sustanciales errores de interpretación del significado fisiológico de la DLCO, de sus medidas derivadas y por consiguiente del significado clínico de sus alteraciones. Además de la utilización de diferentes nomenclaturas, otras fuentes de confusión han contribuido a cierta visión negativa de la prueba. Los aspectos técnicos de la prueba de DLCO tienen la ventaja de estar estandarizados. Pero a diferencia de lo que ocurre con otras pruebas de función pulmonar donde disponemos de valores de referencia que permiten determinar la “normalidad o anormalidad” de las mismas, es difícil aplicar esta vía de análisis en el caso de la DLCO. El hecho central en el análisis de la DLCO, el factor de transferencia para el CO (KCO), y el volumen alveolar (VA) es que para una correcta interpretación es necesario tener en cuenta el mecanismo por el cual la patología induce el cambio. Un KCO del 100% puede ser considerado normal en unas circunstancias o patológico bajo otras y, por el momento, el informe automatizado del estudio no puede discriminar. Este artículo describirá los principios de la prueba de DLCO, presentará diferentes modelos de análisis, expondrá ejemplos concretos y ofrecerá pautas para su correcta interpretación. Se considera indispensable efectuar un análisis integrado de la prueba de DLCO en relación con otras pruebas funcionales y con los datos clínicos.

ABSTRACT To compare the zootechnical performance of the Brazilian native shrimp Penaeus schmitti and the exotic shrimp Penaeus vannamei, juveniles were grown under controlled conditions. Both species were simultaneously cultivated (monoculture) in separate 70 L plastic tanks at two different densities: 30 and 50 ind m-2. Also, in the other two treatments, both species were cultivated together (mixed), with and without feeding, at 30 ind m-2. During the experiment, P. vannamei generally showed a greater interest in food and voracity than P. schmitti. At harvest, for both stocking densities of monoculture treatments, the mean growth rate observed for P. vannamei was 1.0 g week-1, while P. schmitti achieved only 0.1 g week-1. The mean final weight was 10.4 ± 2.0 g; 10.7 ± 2.1 g for P. vannamei and 2.8 ± 0.3 g; 3.2 ± 0.3 g for P. schmitti, for respective densities of 50 and 30 ind m-2. In the mixed treatment with feeding, while P. vannamei reached 11.9 ± 1.4 g, P. schmitti reached only 2.6 ± 0.4 g in the same tank. The observed differences were 3.7 and 3.4 higher in favor of P. vannamei in the monoculture treatment, and up 4.5 times higher in the mixed treatment. Under strict fasting conditions, both species practiced predation/cannibalism among themselves. The results reflected the zootechnical advantages of P. vannamei, but also corroborated the negative effect that high densities and lack of natural food can exert over native species. The potential for P. schmitti cultivation and the possible impact of the escape of P. vannamei into the natural environment is discussed.

Introducción: En la actualidad, la tuberculosis es la novena causa de muerte y la primera por enfermedades infecciosas. Según estimaciones hay 10 millones de nuevos casos de enfermos por año en todo el mundo con más de un millón de muertes anuales. El objetivo del presente trabajo es caracterizar los pacientes diagnosticados de tuberculosis y tratados en el Hospital Transito Cáceres de Allende de la Ciudad de Córdoba. Material y métodos: Se realizó un estudio retrospectivo, observacional, descriptivo, de corte transversal. Resultados: Se incluyeron 69 pacientes, 57,9% fueron hombres. El grupo etario más afectado fue entre los 26 y 65 años. El 35% no tenía trabajo, y de los que si tenían, una gran parte no tenía estabilidad laboral. Ocho pacientes tenían algún grado de inmunocompromiso, presentando solo 1 infección por HIV. No hubo casos de pacientes con resistencia a drogas antituberculosas. Conclusiones: Las características epidemiológicas de nuestros pacientes son similares a otras publicaciones de la región. Conocerlas nos permite tomar decisiones de manejo diario, tanto en diagnóstico y tratamiento, como en la prevención y control de foco para limitar la propagación de la misma.

Introduction: At present, tuberculosis is the ninth cause of death, the first from infectious diseases. According to some estimates, there are 10 million new cases of ill people with tuberculosis per year throughout the world, with more than one million annual deaths. The objective of this study was to characterize patients diagnosed with tuberculosis who were treated in the Hospital Transito Cáceres de Allende of the city of Córdoba. Materials and Methods: We conducted a retrospective, observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study. Results: 57.9% of the 69 patients included in the study were male. The most affected age group was between 26 and 65 years. 35% did not have a job, and a large part of those who were employed did not have job stability. Eight patients were partially immunocompromised and there was only 1 case of HIV infection. There were no cases of antituberculous drug-resistant patients. Conclusions: The epidemiological characteristics of our patients are similar to other publications of the area. Knowing about them allows us to make decisions regarding daily management, both in terms of diagnosis and treatment, and also prevention and outbreak control, in order to limit disease propagation.
