Resumo: Por meio deste artigo busca-se compreender o sentido que quatro professoras da Educação Básica, que atuam com aprendizes pertencentes ao público-alvo da Educação Especial com Transtorno do Espectro Autista (TEA), atribuem ao termo inclusão e analisar as práticas pedagógicas em suas aulas de Matemática. A metodologia adotada foi o estudo de caso e a coleta de dados foi realizada por meio de entrevistas estruturadas, gravadas em áudio. Neste estudo, a concepção de inclusão aparece de duas formas: como processo e como produto. A proposta consistiu em, a partir das transcrições das entrevistas e por meio da análise de discurso, analisar as crenças epistemológicas e as ações pedagógicas desencadeadas pelas professoras em suas salas de aula para a inclusão de alunos com TEA. Os resultados permitiram perceber que, mesmo em diferentes níveis, todas têm expectativas a respeito da aprendizagem dos seus alunos e acreditam no potencial deles, indiferentemente da especificidade de cada um.

Abstract: With this article, we seek to comprehend how four Elementary School teachers who work with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) learners construe the term inclusion, and to analyse teaching practices in their mathematics lessons. The methodology was case study, and data collection was carried out through structured interviews that were audio-recorded. In this study, the concept of inclusion appears as both process and product. Our proposal has been based on the transcription of the interviews and discourse analysis to investigate the epistemological convictions and the teaching actions initiated by the teachers in their classrooms with ASD students. The results enabled us to conclude that even if on different levels, all of the teachers have expectations related to the learning of their students and believe in their potential, irrespective of the particular characteristics of individual learners.

Resumo Este trabalho apresenta resultados de uma pesquisa que teve como objetivo analisar as práticas matemáticas de um aluno de catorze anos de idade, com necessidades especiais decorrentes do Transtorno do Espectro Autista (TEA), incluído em uma sala de aula regular de 9°ano. Neste texto, são trazidas reflexões sobre o autismo e seu histórico, além de algumas considerações teóricas que dão suporte ao estudo e são descritos os procedimentos metodológicos empregados em dez sessões individuais, duas coletivas e observações realizadas pela professora nas aulas de Matemática, nas quais se discutiu os conceitos matemáticos: Produtos Notáveis e as Equações do 2°grau. As análises destacam a importância e a influência dos instrumentos mediadores (materiais e semióticos) nas práticas matemáticas do aluno e para a sua inclusão efetiva nas aulas de Matemática.

Abstract This project demonstrates the result of a research, which aimed at analysing the mathematics practices of a 14 year-old student, with special needs due to the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), included in a ninth grade regular classroom. In this text, we bring reflections about autism and its history, in addition to some theoretical considerations that give support to the study and the methodological procedures applied in ten individual sittings, two collective ones and the observations made by the teacher in the mathematics classes, in which the mathematics concept, Notable Products and Quadratic equations, were discussed. The analyses highlight the importance and the influence of the mediating instruments (materials and semiotics) in the student's mathematical practices and for their effective inclusion in Mathematics classes.

Resumo Neste artigo, o foco é a emergência do pensamento algébrico. Busca-se, nos discursos de aprendizes surdos, compreender como eles articulam os meios de mediação disponíveis nas situações de aprendizagem matemática em um processo de transformar objetos conceituais culturais em objetos de consciência. Explora-se como os aprendizes, envolvidos ativamente em práticas interativas (tarefas e diálogos), podem pensar algebricamente, mesmo que ainda não estejam recorrendo a signos alfanuméricos. Essas interações ocorrem quando os aprendizes trabalharam com um conjunto de atividades analisando representações visuais de sequências numéricas e as modelando com o apoio do micromundo MATHSTICKS (um ambiente digital). Os exemplos apresentados neste artigo mostram evidências da presença das três características do pensamento algébrico apontadas por Radford - indeterminação, denotação e analiticidade. Além disso, as análises indicam que a criação de um signo compartilhado para representar a ideia de variável foi decisiva para o desenvolvimento do pensamento algébrico dos alunos.

Abstract This paper focusses on the emergence of algebraic thinking. It seeks to identify, in the discourse of deaf learners, the articulation of the meditational means available in carefully crafted mathematical activities in the process of transforming conceptual cultural objects into objects of consciousness. It explores how the learners, actively involved in interactive practices (tasks and dialogues), engaged in algebraic thinking without necessarily making use of alphanumeric signs. These interactions occurred as the learners worked through a set of activities, in which they analyzed visual representations of numerical sequences then modeled them using the tools of the Mathsticks Microworld (a digital environment). The examples presented in this article evince the presence of the three characteristics of algebraic thinking, described by Radford, indeterminacy, denotation and analyticity. The analyses also indicate that the creation of a shared sign to represent the idea of variable was decisive in the emergence of the students' algebraic thinking.

Neste artigo, exploramos a natureza social e corporificada da cognição matemática, argumentando que a apropriação de práticas matemáticas envolve a coordenação de fala, gestos, objetos materiais e atividades sensoriais. Utilizando um quadro teórico em desenvolvimento, no qual tentamos combinar aspectos das perspectivas socioculturais de Vygotsky e Leontiev, com abordagens mais recentes da neurociência da cognição humana, investigamos como um estudante cego, interagindo com uma professora (pesquisadora), chegou a conhecer aspectos da matemática em questão (simetria e reflexão), por um processo que envolve a simulação mental de experiências passadas. Exploramos também o papel da pesquisadora no sentido de facilitar um tipo de entrelaçamento entre cultura e cognição, convidando o aluno a fazer conexões entre as experiências sensoriais (passado e presente), artefatos de representação e significados matemáticos culturalmente aceitos.

In this paper, we examine the claim that mathematical cognition is both an embodied and social endeavour by exploring the co-ordinations of speech, gestures, material objects and sensory activities in a dialogue between a mathematics teacher (researcher) and a blind student. Using a developing theoretical framework in which we attempt to combine aspects of the socio-cultural perspectives of Vygotsky and Leontiev with more recent neuroscientific approaches to human cognition, we argue that the student came to know aspects of the mathematics in question (symmetry and reflection), in a process involving the mental simulation of past experiences in ways which enabled associations between physical and mathematical activities. We also explore the role of the researcher in facilitating a kind of entanglement between culture and cognition by inviting the learner to make connections between sensory experiences (past and present), representational artefacts and culturally accepted mathematical meanings.
