Abstract This study handles the possibility of formulating artisanal paints for wall paintings whose pigments come from plants, considering the need for additives and techniques capable of guaranteeing a good performance for internal walls of buildings. The lack of recipes and publications on the proportion of each component to obtain a paint with good performance motivated the preparation of the present research, in which formulations were developed through experimental design of mixtures to obtain homogeneous suspensions that comply with the limits stipulated by NBR 15079-1:2021. The performance of the mixtures in the Abrasion Resistance Test was evaluated according to the variations in the proportions of the components of the mixtures, and the pH and viscosity variable. The results indicate that the highest levels of abrasion resistance were achieved by raising the levels of pigment and bactericide, while high pH indices showed high viscosity and good performance against abrasion resistance, and vice versa. Through this study, it is concluded that it is possible to elaborate paints with Curcuma Longa L. pigments and natural inputs with satisfactory performance for the application and elaboration of mural paintings on internal walls of buildings.

Resumo Opresente estudo buscou formular tintas artesanais para pinturas de murais cujos pigmentos sejam oriundos de plantas, considerando a necessidade de aditivos e técnicas capazes de garantir um bom desempenho para paredes internas de edificações. A falta de receitas e publicações sobre a proporção de cada componente para a obtenção de uma tinta com bom desempenho motivou a elaboração da presente pesquisa, em que foram desenvolvidas formulações através de delineamento experimental de misturas para obter suspensões homogêneas que estejam em conformidade com os limites de desempenho definidos pela NBR 15079-1:2021. O desempenho das misturas frente ao ensaio de resistência à abrasão (RAU) foi avaliado de acordo com as variações das proporções dos componentes das misturas e as variáveis de pH e viscosidade. Os resultados indicam que os índices mais elevados de RAU foram alcançados ao elevar os níveis de pigmento e bactericida, ao passo que altos índices de pH apresentaram viscosidade elevada e bom desempenho frente à RAU, e vice-versa. Através do presente estudo, conclui-se que é possível elaborar tintas com pigmentos de Curcuma Longa L. e insumos naturais com desempenho satisfatório para aplicação e elaboração de pinturas murais em paredes internas de edificações.

Resumo O objetivo principal desta pesquisa foi realizar uma análise espacial das precipitações no Estado do Rio Grande do Norte (RN), através de técnicas geoestatísticas, comparando a média histórica com anos padrão chuvoso e seco. Para análise geoestatística, foram utilizados três indicadores denominados Índice Global de Moran, Moran Map e Diagrama de Espalhamento de Moran. Os resultados mostraram que as precipitações seguem um padrão mais evidente na mesorregião Leste potiguar. Tanto no ano considerado chuvoso, quanto no ano considerado seco, a maior parte dessa mesorregião apresentou um padrão Alto-Alto (HH), indicando que os municípios formam um agrupamento que representa autocorrelação espacial associada a valores mais elevados de precipitação no estado. Por outro lado, as regiões do Agreste e Central potiguar foram as mais secas.

Abstract The main goal of this research was to perform a spatial analysis of precipitation in the state of Rio Grande do Norte (RN) through geostatistical techniques, comparing the historical average data with rainy and dry standard years. Three indicators called Moran’s Global Index, Moran Map, and Moran’s Scattering Diagram were used for geostatistical analysis. The results showed that precipitation has a more evident pattern in the Eastern Potiguar mesoregion since both in the year considered rainy and, in a year considered dry, most of this mesoregion presented a (HH) pattern, that is, the municipalities form a cluster that represents spatial autocorrelation associated with higher values of precipitation in the state. The regions of Agreste and Central Potiguar were the driest.

Resumen El objetivo principal de esta investigación fue realizar un análisis espacial de la precipitación en el Estado de Rio Grande do Norte (RN), a través de técnicas geoestadísticas, comparando el promedio histórico con años patrones lluviosos y secos. Para el análisis geoestadístico se utilizaron tres indicadores denominados Índice Global de Moran, Mapa de Moran y Diagrama de Dispersión de Moran. Los resultados mostraron que la precipitación sigue un patrón más evidente en la mesoregión oriental de Potiguar, ya que, tanto en el año considerado lluvioso, como en un año considerado seco, la mayor parte de esta mesoregión mostró un patrón Alto, Alto (HH), es decir, los municipios forman un conglomerado que representa la autocorrelación espacial asociada a los valores más altos de precipitación en el estado. Las regiones de Agreste y Potiguar Central fueron las más secas.

Abstract In Brazil, 65% of the electric power production comes from hydroelectric power plants (HPPs). In some cases, these power plants divert the course of rivers, resulting in regions impacted by the absence of water, which are known as reduced fow sections (RFS). These sections are regulated by legislation and aim to maintain the minimum fow necessary to preserve the fauna, flora, fish, and human consumption in the region. Depending on the time of year, this minimum flow, also known as ecological flow (residual flow), can reach significant values, resulting in the interruption of power generation in these HPPs. This article presents a study case of two hydroelectric power plants located in different Brazilian states. The objective of this study is to explore the feasibility of implementing auxiliary generator groups that can operate uninterruptedly at different drop heights while ensuring the preservation of residual flow during low flow periods or taking advantage of the overflow flow by spillways during high flow periods. This auxiliary system would use the same set of structures and transmission systems as the main power plant, minimizing environmental impacts and implementation costs, allowing this solution to be implemented in HPPs that face this type of problem in Brazil. The results obtained indicate that HPPs with larger reservoirs have a greater ability to maintain residual flows with minimal generation loss and that run-of-the-river power plants are the most impacted by the maintenance of residual flow.

Resumo Achatina fulica é um molusco terrestre conhecido como caramujo gigante africano que está relacionado a problemas ambientais, econômicos, urbanos e de saúde pública. Como medidas de controle para esse molusco, são utilizados sal de cozinha (NaCl) e óxido de cálcio (CaO), e as iscas são compostas de metaldeído. No entanto, essas medidas têm toxicidade ambiental e impactam o solo. Desta forma, produtos naturais foram testados neste molusco para descobrir e desenvolver uma substância para combater esta praga urbana e agrícola. Este artigo tem como objetivo avaliar estudos envolvendo produtos naturais para controle da população de Achatina fulica. Artigos e trabalhos publicados em livros foram incluídos no presente trabalho. Um total de 1.103 trabalhos foram encontrados durante a pesquisa. Destes, 14 trabalhos atendiam ao objetivo desta revisão e foram incluídos neste artigo. Os testes não possuem padronização metodológica, não possuem concentração máxima para serem considerados ativos ou tempo máximo de exposição. Observou-se uma falta de padronização na metodologia de testes em A. fulica. A realização de testes em outras fases da vida do molusco, bem como testes que analisem outros parâmetros, são essenciais. Apenas um artigo analisado apresentou análise fitoquímica. Também não foram relatados testes de ecotoxicidade. Alguns extratos apresentaram resultados promissores, com destaque para o extrato aquoso de Capsicum frutescens. Mais estudos investigando a atividade molusquicida de produtos naturais sobre A. fulica são necessários. É muito relevante que os novos estudos apresentem uma análise fitoquímica dos extratos testados, bem como estudos de ecotoxicidade.

Abstract Achatina fulica is a terrestrial mollusk known as the giant African snail that is related to environmental, economic, urban, and public health problems. As control measures for this mollusk, cooking salt (NaCl) and calcium oxide (CaO) are used, and baits are composed of metaldehyde. However, these measures have environmental toxicity and impact the soil. In this way, natural products have been tested on this mollusk to discover and develop a substance to combat this urban and agricultural pest. This article aims to evaluate studies involving natural products to control the population of Achatina fulica. Articles and works published in books were included in the present work. A total of 1,103 works were found during the search. Of these, 14 works met the objective of these review and were included in this article. The tests do not possess methodological standardization, do not have a maximum concentration to be considered active, or a maximum exposure time. A lack of standardization in the methodology of tests on A. fulica was observed. The performance of tests on other life stages of the mollusk, as well as tests that analyze other parameters, are essential. Only one article analyzed presented phytochemical analysis. No ecotoxicity tests were reported either. Some extracts showed promising results, highlighting the aqueous extract of Capsicum frutescens. More studies investigating the molluscicidal activity of natural products on A. fulica are needed. It is very relevant that the new studies present a phytochemical analysis of the tested extracts, as well as ecotoxicity studies.

ABSTRACT Purpose To verify the association between sociodemographic factors, vocal behavior, morbidities, and self-perception of voice, hearing, and general health in older women with voice disorders. Methods The sample had 95 older women aged 60 to 84 years (mean of 69,5). They were interviewed with a structured questionnaire on sociodemographic aspects, health, and vocal behavior. The Screening Protocol for Voice Disorders in Older Adults (RAVI) was used to identify the presence of voice disorders. Results Participants who had finished high school and were retired predominated. The number of older women with voice disorders according to RAVI was 46.3%. Physical sensations such as dry throat, throat clearing, and itchy throat were the most common complaints. The group of older women with voice disorders had worse self-perception of voice quality, hearing, and general health and a higher frequency of upper airway infections than those without voice disorders (p ≤ 0.05). Conclusion The vocal self-assessment measured with RAVI was statistically associated with self-perception of voice quality, hearing, general health, sore throat, sinusitis, and respiratory allergies.

RESUMO Objetivo Verificar a associação de fatores sociodemográficos, do comportamento vocal, morbidades e autopercepção da voz, auditiva e de saúde geral de idosas com distúrbio vocal. Método Participaram 95 idosas com idades entre 60 e 84 anos (média 69,5). Realizou-se uma entrevista com apoio de um questionário estruturado contendo questões sociodemográficas, de saúde e do comportamento vocal. Utilizou-se o Protocolo para Rastreamento de Alterações Vocais em Idosos (RAVI) para identificar a presença de distúrbio vocal. Resultados Houve o predomínio de participantes com ensino médio completo e aposentadas. O número de idosas que apresentaram distúrbio vocal segundo o RAVI foi de 46,3%. Queixas relacionadas às sensações físicas como garganta seca, pigarro e coceira na garganta foram as mais presentes. O grupo de idosas com distúrbio vocal apresentou pior autopercepção da qualidade vocal, audição, saúde geral e maior frequência de infecções de vias aéreas superiores quando comparadas àquelas sem distúrbio vocal (p≤0,05). Conclusão Houve associação estatística entre a autoavaliação vocal mensurada pelo RAVI e a autopercepção da qualidade da voz, da audição, da saúde geral, inflamações de garganta, sinusite e alergias respiratórias.

ABSTRACT: This study developed chicken nuggets with emulsions with different percentages of canola oil (CO) to replace the chicken skin and evaluating the quality of the final product and the effect of frying. The experiment was set up in a 5x5 factorial scheme with the replacement of skin with different percentages of CO (0, 25, 50, 75, and 100%) and storage periods (0, 45, 90, 135,and 180 days), and parameters such as pH and oxidation were evaluated. It was considered a 5x2 factorial scheme (replacement of skin with CO and different sample conditions (raw and fried in CO)) for the analyses of the centesimal composition, fatty acid profile, atherogenic (AI), and thrombogenic (IT) indices. The sensory analysis evaluated the chicken nuggets at time zero. The pH values ranged from 6.62 to 6.86, as an effect of frying, there was an increase in lipid content with increasing levels of substitution (T0-raw: 5.36% and fried: 12.11%; T100-raw: 7.93% and fried: 15.43%) and a decrease in moisture content in relation to the raw sample. There was a decrease in AI (T0%-raw vs. T100%-fried, 0.39 vs. 0.10) and IT (T0%-raw vs. T100%-fried, 0.61 vs. 0.18) with CO addition and frying, and lipid oxidation increased with storage. The ω6/ω3 ratio decreased and the PUFA/SFA increased with the replacement of chicken skin with CO, but there was no difference in the sensory analysis. Even though chicken nuggets are prone to lipid oxidation, it is possible to improve their nutritional value either by adding CO to the meat mixture or by frying them.

RESUMO: Objetivou-se neste estudo desenvolver nuggets de frango com emulsões contendo diferentes percentagens de óleo de canola em substituição a pele de frango e avaliar a qualidade do produto final bem como os efeitos da fritura. O experimento foi desenvolvido em esquema fatorial 5x5 (substituição da pele por óleo de canola (0, 25, 50, 75, 100%) e tempo de armazenamento (0, 45, 90, 135, 180 dias)) avaliando parâmetros como pH e oxidação. Considerou-se fatorial 5x2 (substituição da pele por óleo de canola e condições da amostra (cru e frito em óleo de canola)) para as análises da composição centesimal, perfil de ácidos graxos e índices aterogênico (IA) e trombogênico (IT). Para a análise sensorial avaliou-se os nuggets de frango produzidos apenas no tempo zero. Houve efeito da fritura com aumento no teor de lipídios (T0%-cru:5,36% e frito:12,11%; T100%-cru:7,93% e frito: 15,43%), redução no teor de umidade em relação a amostra crua e aumento no teor de lipídios com aumento dos níveis de substituição. Com a adição de óleo de canola e fritura houve redução de IA (T0%, cru, IA:0,39; T100%, frito, IA:0,10) e IT (T0%, cru, IT:0,61; T100%, frito, IT:0,18) e com o tempo de armazenamento aumentou-se a oxidação lipídica. A proporção ω6/ ω3 diminuiu e a AGP/AGS aumentou com a substituição da pele de frango por óleo de canola e não houve diferença na análise sensorial. Apesar da propensão à oxidação lipídica, é possível melhorar nutricionalmente os nuggets de frango, tanto pela adição de óleo de canola à massa quanto pelo processo de fritura.

ABSTRACT Purpose: In glaucoma, initial visual field scotomas can be peripheral or central, whereas central scotomas are more severe and can disrupt daily activities. Individual anatomical features may influence the distribution of retinal nerve fibers and the starting site of visual field defects in glaucoma. In this study, we aimed to correlate myopia and hyperopia or anatomical variation of the disk-fovea angle with initial central or peripheral lesions in the visual field. Methods: This cross-sectional study included patients with primary open-angle glaucoma divided into a group of isolated central or peripheral scotomas in the visual field with MD > or equal to -6 dB, correlating with the degree of ametropia and anatomical variations, such as the disk-fovea angle. Results: We included 52 patients with glaucoma. Of 20 myopic patients, 6 (30%) had central scotomas, and 14 (70%) had peripheral scotomas. Of 32 hyperopic patients, 12 (37.5%) had central scotomas, and 20 (63.5%) had peripheral scotomas. Regarding the disk-fovea angle, 25 eyes had the disk-fovea angle of < -7°, with 9 (36%) eyes presenting with central scotoma, and 27 eyes presented with the disk-fovea angle of > -7°, with 9 (33.3%) eyes presenting with a central scotoma. Conclusion: This study showed an association between ametropia and scotomas on the perimetry in patients with glaucoma. Patients had a higher incidence of peripheral scotomas, but hyperopic patients had a greater number of central scotomas than myopic patients, and myopic patients had more peripheral scotomas than hyperopic patients. The disk-fovea angle was not correlated with scotomas in initial glaucoma.

RESUMO Objetivos: No glaucoma, os escotomas iniciais no campo visual podem ser periféricos ou centrais. Os escotomas centrais são mais graves e podem atrapalhar as atividades diárias. As características anatômicas individuais podem influenciar a distribuição das fibras nervosas da retina e o local inicial dos defeitos do campo visual no glaucoma. Nesse estudo buscamos correlacionar a miopia e a hipermetropia ou a variação anatômica do ângulo disco-fóvea com lesões iniciais centrais ou periféricos no campo visual. Métodos: Este foi um estudo transversal incluindo pacientes com glaucoma primário de ângulo aberto divididos em grupo de escotomas isolados central ou periférico no campo visual com MD > ou igual a -6 dB, correlacionando com o grau de ametropia e variações anatômicas como o ângulo disco fóvea. Resultados: Incluímos 52 pacientes com glaucoma. Dos 20 míopes, 6 (30%) apresentaram escotoma central e 14 (70%) escotoma periférico) e 32 olhos hipermetrópicos com 12 (37,5%) escotomas centrais e 20 (63,5%) escotomas periféricos. Sobre o ângulo disco fóvea, 25 olhos tiveram ângulo disco fóvea menor que -7º com 9 (36%) olhos apresentando escotoma central e 27 olhos com ângulo disco fóvea maior que -7º com 9 (33,3%) olhos apresentando escotoma central. Conclusão: Este estudo mostrou associação da ametropia e os escotomas na perimetria em pacientes com glaucoma. Pacientes apresentaram maior incidência de escotomas periféricos, porém hipermétropes apresentaram maior quantidade de escotoma central que os míopes e os míopes mais escotomas periféricos que os hipermetropes. O ângulo disco fóvea não foi correlacionado com escotomas na perimetria no glaucoma inicial.

ABSTRACT: The current production of major crops, such as Glycine max L., has become increasingly adept on the use of bio-inputs, such as application of plant growth-promoting inocula. However, the evaluation of the potential of bacterial isolates from soils with different time histories of agricultural use are still scarce, and methods for isolation and testing of multifunctional microorganisms need to be continuously innovated and improved. Thus, we used G. max bait plants to attract rhizobacteria from soils obtained from three areas with different time histories of soybean cultivation. We evaluated the influence of the management and characteristics of soils on the phosphate-solubilizing bacterial population. We then tested the multifunctional potential of the isolated rhizobacteria for calcium phosphate (CaHPO4) and iron phosphate (FePO4) solubilization, considering their potential as microbial inoculants in the future. The use of bait plants enabled the isolation of 139 phosphate solubilizing rhizobacteria, including four strains with multifunctional potential. The largest number of solubilizing bacteria was obtained from the interaction of bait plants with soil from an area with a history of soybean cultivation for thirty consecutive years. The high concentration of P, Fe, and K found in the soil were associated with this occurrence. In the in vitro tests, the pH values of the culture media had a moderate negative relationship with the amounts of P made available by the isolates, indicating that other processes besides the availability of organic acids, may underlie the solubilizing action of the isolates. The rhizobacteria SAF9 (Brevibacillus sp.), SAF11 (Brevibacillus sp.), BRC11 (Pseudomonas fluorescens), and SAC36 (Bacillus velezensis) stood out as multifunctional and are indicated within a perspective of obtaining bioinoculants to promote plant growth directly, indirectly, or synergistically, contributing to increase the range of bio-inputs for soybean cultivation and more sustainable agricultural practices.

RESUMO: A produção atual de grandes culturas, como Glycine max L. tem se mostrado cada vez mais adepta da utilização de bioinsumos, como a aplicação de inóculos promotores do crescimento vegetal. No entanto, avaliações do potencial de isolados bacterianos de solos com diferentes históricos de tempo de uso agrícola ainda são escassos e os métodos para isolamento e testagem de micro-organismos multifuncionais precisam ser continuamente inovados e melhorados. Assim, usamos plantas iscas de G. max para atrair rizobactérias de solos obtidos de três áreas com diferentes históricos de cultivo de soja. Avaliamos a influência do manejo e das características dos solos sobre a população de bactérias solubilizadoras de fosfato. Em seguida, testamos o potencial multifuncional das rizobactérias isoladas para solubilização de fosfato de cálcio (CaHPO4) e fosfato de ferro (FePO4), considerando seu potencial como inoculantes microbianos no futuro. O uso de plantas iscas permitiu o isolamento de 139 rizobactérias solubilizadoras de fosfato, incluindo quatro cepas com potencial multifuncional. O maior número de bactérias solubilizadoras foi obtido a partir da interação das plantas-isca com o solo de uma área com histórico de cultivo de soja por trinta anos consecutivos. Características como a alta concentração de P, Fe e K neste solo, estiveram associadas a esta ocorrência. Nos testes in vitro, os valores de pH dos meios de cultivo se correlacionaram negativamente, mas de forma moderada com as quantidades de P disponibilizados pelos isolados, indicando que outros processos, além da disponibilização de ácidos orgânicos podem estar subjacentes à ação solubilizadora dos isolados. As rizobactérias SAF9 (Brevibacillus sp.), SAF11 (Brevibacillus sp.), BRC11 (Pseudomonas fluorescens) e SAC36 (Bacillus velezensis) se destacaram como multifuncionais e são indicadas dentro de uma perspectiva de obtenção de bioinoculantes para promoção do crescimento vegetal de forma direta, indireta ou sinérgica, contribuindo para aumentar a gama de bioinsumos destinados à cultura da soja e para práticas agrícolas mais sustentáveis.

Abstract The study and understanding of the concepts related to critical state soil mechanics is relatively recent in Brazil, especially among practicing geotechnical engineers in the mining industry, where simpler solutions were traditionally adopted. This raises the necessity to develop studies capable of promoting discussions about the benefits of the approaches from the critical state theory. In this context, this research aims to evaluate the behavior of an iron ore tailings from the Quadrilátero Ferrífero through critical state computational models, considering the Modified Cam-Clay and NorSand model. The numerical results from the use of the models simulated the ductile/brittle behavior of the material in drained shear and it was observed that for loose samples both models produced similar results. The simulations in undrained shear, on the other hand, highlighted the differences between the models, with the NorSand showing a strength loss in undrained shear (strain-softening) whereas the Modified Cam-Clay Model exhibited a ductile behavior. In general, the NorSand model was the one that presented the best numerical response in relation to the experimental behavior, which may be linked to the use of the largest number of parameters, to the concept that particulate materials exist in a set of states and the silty characteristic of the material. Additionally, it was observed the difficulty to simulate the dense behavior of materials with the model, which may be associated with the formation of ‘shear bands’ during the experimental test and the complexity of modeling the occurrence of this phenomenon in virtual tests using the NorSand model. RESUMO Fundamentos: Alergia às proteínas do leite de vaca (APLV) é mais prevalente nos primeiros anos de vida e o único tratamento é a dieta de exclusão do leite de vaca. Objetivo: Realizar estudo de revisão sobre a ingestão alimentar e o estado nutricional de crianças com dieta de exclusão de leite de vaca e derivados e seus potenciais riscos nutricionais. Material e Método: Revisão apoiada na recomendação PRISMA, utilizando-se as bases de dados PubMed, LILACS e SciELO, em busca de artigos originais conduzidos com crianças menores de 5 anos de idade em dieta de exclusão de leite de vaca e derivados. Resultados: Foram identificados 441 artigos, dos quais 18 foram incluídos no estudo. Observou-se que crianças em dieta de exclusão das proteínas de leite de vaca quando comparadas com grupo controle podem apresentar menor ingestão de macro e micronutrientes, menor média de escores-z de estatura para idade, peso para idade, peso para estatura e IMC para idade, bem como apresentar sobrepeso e obesidade, além de distúrbios alimentares. Conclusão: Durante o manejo da APLV é essencial o acompanhamento por médico e nutricionista, a fim de garantir o crescimento e desenvolvimento adequados.

ABSTRACT Background: Cow’s milk protein allergy (CMPA) is more prevalent in the first years of life and the only treatment is a cow’s milk exclusion diet. Objective: to carry out a review study on the food intake and nutritional status of children on a diet excluding cow’s milk and derivatives and their potential nutritional risks. Material and Methods: Review based on the PRISMA recommendation, using the PubMed, LILACS and SciELO databases, in search of original articles conducted with children under 5 years of age on a diet excluding cow’s milk and dairy products. Results: 441 articles were identified, of which 18 were included in the study. It was observed that children on a diet excluding cow’s milk proteins, when compared to the control group, may have a lower intake of macro and micronutrients, lower mean z-scores for height for age, weight for age, weight for height and BMI for age, as well as being overweight and obese, in addition to eating disorders. Conclusion: During the management of CMPA, monitoring by a doctor and nutritionist is essential to toguarantee adequate growth and development.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Peritoneal dialysis patients are at increased risk of developing abdominal wall complications, including hernias. This study aimed to determine the incidence of hernias in peritoneal dialysis patients, identify risk factors, and evaluate their impact on technique survival. Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted, including prevalent peritoneal dialysis patients in a single center, from January 2010 to October 2020. Data on baseline characteristics, previous abdominal surgeries, and hernia history were collected. Patients with diagnosed hernias during peritoneal dialysis were compared to a control group. Results: Among 155 peritoneal dialysis patients, hernias occurred in 29% (n=45) of the population, with an incidence rate of 0.09 hernias/patient/year. Umbilical hernias were the most common subtype. Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (OR (odds ratio) 3.925; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.208 - 12.75) history of surgical repaired hernias (OR 5.586; 95% CI 1.540 - 20.255) and a higher number of previous abdominal surgeries (OR 1.680; 95% CI 1.025 - 2.752) were independent predictors of hernia development. Surgical treatment was performed in 59.3% of cases, with a 18.8% recurrence rate. Higher daytime infusion volumes were associated with hernia recurrence (p=0.045). Peritoneal dialysis technique survival did not differ significantly between the hernia and control groups (p=0.700). Conclusion: Hernias are frequent in peritoneal dialysis patients, with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease, previous abdominal surgeries, and history of surgically repaired hernias as identified risk factors. Hernias do not significantly interfere with peritoneal dialysis technique survival, but comprehensive management strategies, including early surgical repair and peritoneal dialysis prescription adaptations, can optimize outcomes.

Abstract The principles of bioethics are characterized by a particular singularity that allows for a range of rights and obligations in the doctor-patient relationship, permitting or not the disclosure of personal information, notably when it is the decision of the latter. The problem addressed in this research concerns the possibility of the doctor relativizing the sharing of the confidentiality of the information obtained from their patient. This is a qualitative and exploratory research, based mainly on the deductive method. Through bibliographic, documentary and jurisprudential review, we present the concept, extent, and exceptions to the duty of medical confidentiality and its relation to bioethics, with a focus on legal and deontological norms and their reflections on various social facts, occurring in Portugal and Brazil. However, we will limit our approach to the connection between medicine and law, in light of a recent court decision that led to the dismissal of a criminal case initiated after the doctor reported a patient's abortion to the police, who sought medical attention after ingesting an abortifacient drug. We will describe aspects related to the doctor-patient commitment and its implications in cases where the ethical behavior of the medical professional is deviant.

Resumo Os princípios da bioética são revestidos de particular singularidade que possibilitam uma gama de direitos e obrigações à relação médico-paciente, permitindo ou não a revelação de informações pessoais, notadamente quando esta for a decisão deste último. O problema da presente pesquisa versa sobre a possibilidade de o médico relativizar o compartilhamento do sigilo das informações obtidas de seu paciente. Trata-se de pesquisa qualitativa e exploratória, que se utiliza do método dedutivo para fazer uma revisão bibliográfica, documental e de recortes da jurisprudência, apresentando o conceito, extensão e exceção ao dever de guarda do sigilo médico e sua relação diante da bioética, com os olhos voltados para as normas legais e deontológicas e seus reflexos em diversos fatos sociais, ocorridos em Portugal e no Brasil. Entretanto, delimitaremos a abordagem à conexão da medicina com o direito, diante de recente decisão judicial que arquivou um processo criminal instaurado após a comunicação do médico à autoridade policial de um aborto praticado por sua paciente, que procurou atendimento após ingerir medicamento abortivo. Serão descritos aspectos ligados ao compromisso médico-paciente e suas implicações no caso de o comportamento ético do profissional médico se manifestar desviante.

Resumen: Es notorio un aumento en la preocupación por el bienestar animal y su asociación en el contexto de la sostenibilidad de los modelos productivos. Debido a su carácter intensivo, la ganadería porcina es uno de los segmentos con mayor presión de mercado. Se han ido imponiendo una serie de cambios paulatinos para atender esta demanda. Actualmente, Brasil cuenta con una instrucción normativa específica para el tema, además de empresas privadas que brindan las llamadas certificaciones. Con el avance de la ciencia del bienestar animal, han surgido diferentes protocolos para su medición; el más aceptado actualmente es el concepto de los cinco dominios en asociación con las cinco libertades. A través de esta evaluación, es posible enumerar una serie de puntos críticos en todas las etapas de producción.

Abstract: As in all sectors of animal production, pig farming undergoes a constant process of remodeling. Currently, animal welfare is one of the central themes of this process since it is closely linked to the context of sustainability of production models, has a legislative dimension, and can be a tool for conquering a differentiated market niche. Welfare in swine production is a highly comprehensive topic; to study it, it is necessary to master its definition and measurement methods. The metric used to measure it was shaped with the implementation of new definitions and terms over the years, and the concept of five domains is currently used - (1) nutrition, (2) environment, (3) health, (4) behavioral interactions and (5) mental state. Using this concept, it is possible to list the critical points of pig farming involving all production stages, from the planning of structures to the productive results of the progeny.

Resumo: É notório o aumento da preocupação com o bem-estar dos animal e a sua associação no contexto da sustentabilidade dos modelos produtivos. Devido ao seu caráter intensivo, a criação de suínos é um dos segmentos com grande pressão do mercado. Uma série de mudanças vem sendo gradualmente impostas buscando atender a essa demanda. Atualmente, o Brasil apresenta uma instrução normativa específica para o assunto, além de empresas privadas que fornecem as chamadas certificações. Com o avanço da ciência do bem-estar animal, surgiram diferentes protocolos para a sua aferição, sendo o conceito dos cinco domínios em associação às cinco provisões o mais aceito atualmente. Através dessa avaliação, é possível elencar uma série de pontos chaves em todas as etapas de produção.

Abstract Background: Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), also known as chronic diseases that are long-lasting, are considered the major cause of death and disability worldwide, and the six pillars of lifestyle medicine (nutrition, exercise, toxic control, stress management, restorative sleep, and social connection) play an important role in a holistic management of their prevention and treatment. In addition, medical guidelines are the most accepted documents with recommendations to manage NCDs. Objective: The present study aims to analyze the lack of lifestyle pillars concerning the major Brazilian medical guidelines for NCDs and identify evidence in the literature that could justify their inclusion in the documents. Method: Brazilian guidelines were selected according to the most relevant causes of death in Brazil, given by the Mortality Information System, published by the Brazilian Ministry of Health in 2019. Journals were screened in the PUBMED library according to the disease and non-mentioned pillars of lifestyle. Results: Relevant causes of deaths in Brazil are acute myocardial infarction (AMI), diabetes mellitus (DM), and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD). Six guidelines related to these NCDs were identified, and all address aspects of lifestyle, but only one, regarding cardiovascular prevention, highlights all six pillars. Despite this, a literature search involving over 50 articles showed that there is evidence that all the pillars can help control each of these NCDs. Conclusion: Rarely are the six pillars of lifestyle contemplated in Brazilian guidelines for AMI, DM, and COPD. The literature review identified evidence of all lifestyle pillars to offer a holistic approach for the management and prevention of NCDs.

Resumo Fundamento: As doenças crônicas não transmissíveis (DCNT), também conhecidas como doenças crônicas de longa duração, são consideradas a principal causa de morte e incapacidade em todo o mundo, e os seis pilares da medicina do estilo de vida (nutrição, exercício, controle de tóxicos, manejo do estresse, saúde do sono e conexão social) desempenham um papel importante na gestão holística da sua prevenção e tratamento. Além disso, as diretrizes médicas são os documentos mais aceitos com recomendações para o manejo das DCNT. Objetivo: O presente estudo tem como objetivo analisar a ausência de pilares de estilo de vida nas principais diretrizes médicas brasileiras sobre as DCNT e identificar evidências na literatura que possam justificar sua inclusão nos documentos. Método: As diretrizes brasileiras foram selecionadas de acordo com as causas de morte mais relevantes no Brasil, informadas pelo Sistema de Informações sobre Mortalidade publicado pelo Ministério da Saúde em 2019. Os periódicos foram selecionados na biblioteca PUBMED de acordo com a doença e os pilares do estilo de vida não mencionados. Resultados: Causas relevantes de mortes no Brasil são o infarto agudo do miocárdio (IAM), o diabetes mellitus (DM) e as doenças pulmonares obstrutivas crônicas (DPOC). Foram identificadas seis diretrizes relacionadas a essas DCNT e todas abordam aspectos do estilo de vida, mas apenas uma, referente à prevenção cardiovascular, destaca todos os seis pilares. Apesar disso, uma pesquisa bibliográfica envolvendo mais de 50 artigos mostrou que há evidências de que todos os pilares podem ajudar no controle de cada uma dessas DCNT. Conclusão: Raramente os seis pilares do estilo de vida são contemplados nas diretrizes brasileiras para IAM, DM e DPOC. A revisão da literatura identificou evidências de todos os pilares do estilo de vida para oferecer uma abordagem holística para a gestão e prevenção das DCNT.
