RESUMO: O tembotrione é registrado no Brasil para a cultura do milho, sendo aplicado em extensas áreas do país em cada safra agrícola. Nos últimos anos, produtores relataram efeitos carryover desse herbicida em culturas sucessivas ao milho. Esse fato pode ser atribuído a recomendações do tembotrione sem o conhecimento de suas interações com os coloides dos solos tropicais. Nesta pesquisa, utilizando a cromatografia líquida de alta eficiência, foi avaliada a influência dos atributos químicos e físicos na sorção e dessorção do tembotrione, bem como do seu metabólito AE 1417268, em sete solos de diferentes regiões do Brasil. Os coeficientes referentes à sorção e dessorção, além do índice de histerese (Kf, 1/n e H) do tembotrione e do seu metabólito, foram influenciados pelo pH, teor de argila e matéria orgânica. Em solos com baixos teores de argila e matéria orgânica, os valores dos coeficientes de sorção foram reduzidos com o aumento do pH. A dessorção do tembotrione e do metabólito em todos os solos foi baixa, principalmente naqueles argilosos e com maiores teores de matéria orgânica. A sorção do tembotrione e seu metabólito varia com os atributos dos solos, apresentando relação direta com os teores de argila e de matéria orgânica e inversa com o pH dos solos. A dessorção do tembotrione e do seu metabólito reduziu com o aumento dos teores de argila e matéria orgânica dos solos avaliados.

ABSTRACT: Tembotrione is registered in Brazil for maize and is used in large areas of the country in each harvest. In recent years, producers have reported carryover effects of this herbicide in succeeding crops to maize. This fact can be attributed to tembotrione recommendations without knowing their interactions with tropical soils colloids. In this study, using high-performance liquid chromatography, it was possible to evaluate the influence of chemical and physical attributes on the sorption and desorption of tembotrione, as well as its metabolite AE 1417268, on seven soils from different regions of Brazil. The coefficients referring to sorption and desorption, as well as the hysteresis index (Kf, 1/n and H) of tembotrione and its metabolite were influenced by pH, clay content and organic matter. In soil samples with low levels of clay and organic matter, values of sorption coefficients were reduced as pH increased. The desorption of tembotrione and its metabolite in all soils were low, mainly in the clayey ones and in soils with higher organic matter content. The sorption of tembotrione and its metabolites varies with the attributes of soil, presenting a direct relation with clay and organic matter contents and an inverse one with soil pH. The desorption of tembotrione and its metabolite decreased with the increase in clay and organic matter contents in the evaluated soils.

Organic acids have stood out as alternatives to antibiotic growth promoters, especially those extracted from plants, such as anacardic acid, which is present in cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL). This study evaluates the effects of CNSL as a source of anacardic acid in diets of laying hens on performance, egg quality, lipid stability of yolk and microbiological analysis of excreta. A total of 216 commercial Hisex White laying hens were housed in cages and distributed in a completely randomized design with six treatments and six replicates of six birds per treatment. Treatments consisted of a diet without antibiotic growth promoter (AGP); diet with AGP (Halquinol 60% at 0.1 g/kg and Enramycin 8% at 0.1 g/kg); and four diets without AGP and with the inclusion of 2.5, 5.0, 7.5 and 10.0 g/kg CNSL. No effects of dietary addition of AGP and CNSL were observed in bird performance and external quality of eggs. A quadratic effect was observed for lipid oxidation in egg yolk, the minimum value of which was found at 5.8 g/kg CNSL. There were no significant effects of treatments on total mesophilic, total coliform and thermotolerant coliform counts on excreta. In conclusion, adding up to 10.0 g/kg of CNSL as source of anacardic acid in laying hen diet did not influence performance or egg quality, but the addition from 7.5 g/kg of CNSL upwards reduced lipid oxidation and improved the yolk colour.

RESUMO: As espécies de trapoeraba Commelina benghalensis e C. diffusa estão entre as principais plantas infestantes na cultura do café. Objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar a eficácia de herbicidas/misturas de herbicidas no controle das espécies de trapoeraba e a possível intoxicação na cultura do café. Foram conduzidos dois experimentos, sendo o primeiro em esquema fatorial 12 x 2, com 12 herbicidas/misturas (glyphosate, glyphosate + metsulfuron-methyl, glyphosate + flumioxazin, glyphosate + 2,4-D, glyphosate + oxyfluorfen, glyphosate + carfentrazone-ethyl, metsulfuron-methyl, flumioxazin, 2,4-D, oxyfluorfen e carfentrazone-ethyl) e duas espécies de trapoeraba (C. benghalensis e C. diffusa), e o segundo, em esquema fatorial 6 x 2 + 1, com seis herbicidas/misturas (glyphosate, glyphosate + metsulfuron-methyl, glyphosate + flumioxazin, glyphosate + 2,4-D, glyphosate + oxyfluorfen e glyphosate + carfentrazone-ethyl) e duas formas de aplicação nas plantas de café (atingindo 1/3 da copa do café e com a copa protegida), mais uma testemunha sem herbicidas. Verificou-se variação na tolerância das espécies de trapoeraba para os herbicidas avaliados. C. benghalensis foi controlada pelos tratamentos glyphosate, 2,4-D, glyphosate + 2,4-D e glyphosate + metsulfuron-methyl, enquanto C. diffusa foi controlada pelo 2,4-D e pelas misturas glyphosate + metsulfuron-methyl, glyphosate + oxyfluorfen e glyphosate + flumioxazin. A mistura glyphosate + 2,4-D, embora eficiente no controle das trapoerabas, causou intoxicação e paralisação no crescimento do café. Houve antagonismo na mistura glyphosate + carfentrazone-ethyl para o controle das duas espécies, bem como nas misturas glyphosate + oxyfluorfen e glyphosate + flumioxazin, para C. benghalensis.

ABSTRACT: The dayflower species Commelina benghalensis and C. diffusa are among the main weeds in coffee crops. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of herbicides/herbicide mixtures in controlling dayflower species and to evaluate the possible intoxication of coffee cultures, as well as the effect of mixture interactions. Two experiments were conducted, the first one in a 12 x 2 factorial arrangement with 12 herbicides/mixtures (glyphosate, glyphosate + metsulfuron-methyl, glyphosate + flumioxazin, glyphosate + 2.4-D, glyphosate + oxyfluorfen, glyphosate + carfentrazone-ethyl, metsulfuron-methyl, flumioxazin, 2.4-D, oxyfluorfen and carfentrazone-ethyl) and two dayflower species (C. benghalensis and C. diffusa) and the second one, in a 6 x 2 + 1 factorial arrangement, with six herbicides/mixtures (glyphosate, glyphosate + metsulfuron-methyl, glyphosate + flumioxazin, glyphosate + 2.4-D, glyphosate + oxyfluorfen and glyphosate + carfentrazone-ethyl) and two application forms on coffee plants (reaching 1/3 of the coffee canopy and with a protected canopy), plus a control treatment without herbicides. There was tolerance variation within the dayflower species to the tested herbicides. Commelina benghalensis was controlled by glyphosate, 2.4-D, glyphosate + 2.4-D and glyphosate + metsulfuron-methyl, while C. diffusa was controlled by 2.4-D and glyphosate mixtures by + metsulfuron-methyl, glyphosate + oxyfluorfen and glyphosate + flumioxazin. The mixture glyphosate + 2.4-D is effective in controlling dayflower, but it caused intoxication and growth reduction of the coffee. There was antagonism in the mixture glyphosate + carfentrazone-ethyl in controlling both species, as well as for glyphosate + oxyfluorfen and glyphosate + flumioxazin for C. benghalensis.

The effects of including leucena leaf (FFL) or cunhã (FC) hay into diet on performance and egg quality of 100 Hisex Brown (64 weeks old) laying hens were compared. Birds were distributed into a completely randomized design with five treatments and five replicates of 4 birds each. The treatments were designed in a factorial 2 x 2 + 1, which evaluated the factors energy source (corn or sorghum) and type of hay (leucena or cunhã) and an a control diet based on corn and soybean meal without inclusion of hay. The trial lasted 63 days (three periods of 21 days), during which the birds received feed and water ad libitum. Treatments did significantly affect, neither production, weight, mass, component proportion and Haugh units of eggs, nor feed conversion. However, laying hens fed ration without hay (control diet) had the lowest consumption. The inclusion of FFL, in the diet containing corn or sorghum, resulted in higher yolk pigmentation than inclusion of FC. The inclusion of FFL or FC, independent of the grain utilized as an energy source, results in a similar performance, but FFL increased yolk pigmentation capacity.

Objetivou-se comparar o efeito da inclusão de fenos de folha de leucena (FFL) e de cunhã (FC) na ração, sobre o desempenho e a qualidade dos ovos de poedeiras. Cem poedeiras Hisex Brown (64 semanas de idade) foram distribuídas em um delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com 5 tratamentos e 5 repetições de 4 aves. Por 63 dias (3 períodos de 21 dias), durante os quais as aves receberam ração e água à vontade, foram avaliados os fatores fonte de energia (milho ou sorgo) e o tipo de feno (leucena ou cunhã) e uma ração controle à base de milho e farelo de soja sem inclusão de feno em um fatorial 2 x 2 + 1. A postura, o peso dos ovos, a massa de ovo, a conversão alimentar, a proporção dos componentes do ovo e as unidades Haugh não sofreram influências dos tratamentos. As poedeiras alimentadas com ração controle, apresentaram o menor consumo. A inclusão de FFL, na ração contendo milho ou sorgo, resultou em maior pigmentação das gemas em relação à inclusão de FC. Independente do cereal utilizado como fonte de energia na formulação da ração de postura, a inclusão de FFL ou de FC resulta em desempenho semelhante, porém, o FFL apresenta maior capacidade de pigmentação das gemas.

Os registros de produção de leite de 11.023 primeiras lactações de vacas da raça Holandesa pertencentes a 251 rebanhos distribuídos no estado de Minas Gerais foram usados para comparar os polinômios de Legendre e a função Wilmink em modelos de regressão aleatória (MRA) quanto aos seus efeitos na estimação de parâmetros genéticos e predição de valores genéticos para nove medidas de persistência na lactação e produção de leite até 305 dias. Os modelos de regressão aleatória ajustados aos controles leiteiros entre o sexto e o 305(0) dia de lactação incluíram o efeito de rebanho-ano-mês do controle, os parâmetros dos polinômios de Legendre de ordens 3 a 5 ou da função de Wilmink, para modelar as curvas fixas da regressão dentro das subclasses de idade-estação de parto da vaca e os parâmetros dos polinômios de Legendre de ordens 3 a 5, para modelar os efeitos aleatórios genético-aditivo e permanente de ambiente. Os testes do critério de informação de Akaike e Bayesiano indicaram o modelo com maior número de parâmetros como o que melhor se ajustou aos dados de produção de leite. Observaram-se grandes variações nas estimativas de herdabilidade para a maioria das medidas de persistência na lactação, com uso dos modelos que envolveram ajustes dos polinômios de Legendre. As estimativas de herdabilidade variaram de 0,11 a 0,33 para produção de leite ao longo da lactação, de 0,33 a 0,36 para a produção de leite até 305 dias e de 0,00 a 0,32 para persistência na lactação. As correlações genéticas entre persistência e produção de leite até 305 dias diferiram com o modelo e a medida de persistência. A utilização da função de Wilmink, comparada aos polinômios de Legendre, proporcionou mudanças expressivas na ordem dos animais quando classificados para persistência na lactação.

Records of 11,023 first-parity Holstein cows belonging to 251 herds in the State of Minas Gerais were used to compare the Legendre polynomials and Wilmink function in random regression models (RRM) as for their effects in the estimate of genetic parameters and prediction of breeding values for nine types of persistency measurements and 305-day milk yield. The random regression test day models included the effect of herd-year-month test day, parameters of the function of Wilmink or 3th to 5th order Legendre polynomials to model fixed curves of the subclasses and 3th to 5th order Legendre polynomials to model genetic and permanent environmental effects. The Akaike’s Information Criterion (AIC) and Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC) indicated the model with larger number of parameters as the one that best fitted the data of milk yield. Using the Legrendre polynomial model large variation was observed in the estimates heritabilities for most of the persistency measures. The estimates herdabilities varied from 0.11 to 0.33 to milk yield throughout the lactation, from 0.33 to 0.36 for the 305-day milk yield and, from 0.00 to 0.32 for persistency. Genetic correlations between persistency and 305-day milk yield differed according to the model and persistency measure. Compared the Legendre polynomials to the Wilmink function provided expressive changes in rank of animals for persistency of lactation.

Foram usados registros de 102.098 controles mensais individuais de vacas da raça Holandesa em 189 rebanhos do Estado de Minas Gerais, no período de janeiro de 1999 a dezembro de 2001, para se avaliar o efeito de mês de controle, número de dias em lactação, idade da vaca, época de parto e composição racial sobre componentes e contagem de células somáticas (CCS) do leite no dia do controle. As CCSs foram transformadas para escore de célula somática (ECSs). Médias não-ajustadas e desvios-padrão para produção de leite, porcentagens de gordura e proteína e ECSs no dia de controle foram, respectivamente, 22,87 e 7,35 kg, 3,56 e 0,72%, 3,15 e 0,37%, 3,07 e 2,33 para a primeira e 24,99 e 9,33 kg, 3,57 e 0,76%, 3,14 e 0,38%, 4,23 e 2,3 para as outras lactações. Nas análises utilizou-se o método de quadrados mínimos com as lactações agrupadas por idade em primeira e outras lactações. Os efeitos rebanho-ano, mês, dias em lactação, estação de parição, idade ao parto e composição racial foram usados para explicar variações. Nos dois conjuntos de dados, com exceção da porcentagem de proteína, para a qual dias em lactação foi o efeito que mais contribuiu para a variação, rebanho-ano foi responsável pela maior parte da variação, seguindo-se dias em lactação. O efeito rebanho-ano foi também o mais importante para explicar a variação dos ECSs, respectivamente 19,0 e 34,6% para primeira e outras lactações, seguindo-se em importância o efeito de dias em lactação, respectivamente, 4,4 e 4,0% da variação total. As médias das porcentagens de gordura e proteína foram altas imediatamente após o parto, decresceram, aproximadamente, até 50 dias e aumentaram daí por diante até o final da lactação, enquanto que a produção de leite diminuiu. Os teores de gordura e proteína foram maiores nos meses de inverno e mais baixos nos meses de verão. Flutuações sazonais desses componentes seguiram tendência oposta à da produção de leite. Os escores de células somáticas foram altos nos 10 primeiros dias da lactação, mas inferiores para vacas de primeira lactação, decresceram até um mínimo aos 50-60 e aos 30-40 dias, respectivamente, para a primeira e para as outras lactações. Daí em diante aumentaram até o final, com taxas de crescimento semelhantes. A variação dos escores segundo o mês do ano foi semelhante para primeira e outras lactações, cresceram de fevereiro a junho e decresceram até um mínimo em outubro. O aumento dos ECSs com a idade da vaca foi curvilíneo para primeira e linear para outras lactações.

A total of 102,098 individual monthly-test-day records of Holstein cows from 189 herds of the state of Minas Gerais from January 1999 to December 2001 were used to evaluate the effects of environmental factors on the composition and somatic cell counts (CCSs) of milk. The CCSs were transformed to somatic cell scores (SCSs). Unadjusted means and standard deviations for milk yield, fat and protein percentages, and SCSs were, respectively, 22.87 and 7.35kg, 3.56 and 0.72%, 3.15 and 0.37%, 3.07 and 2.33 for first parity and 24.99 and 9.33kg, 3.57 and 0.76%, 3.14 and 0.38%, 4.23 and 2.3 for later parities. Least squares methodologies were used and the analyses were separated within lactation age group as first and later parities. Effects of herd-year, month of calving, days in milk, season of calving, age at calving and breed group were considered in order to explain total variations. In both data sets, except for protein percentage, for which days in milk was the most contributing effect for the variation, herd-year was responsible for most of the variation, followed by days in milk. The effect of herd-year was also the most important to explain the variation of SCSs, respectively, 19.0 and 34.6% for first and later parities, followed in importance by days in milk, respectively, 4.4 and 4.0% of the total variation. Milk fat and protein percentages were high early in the lactation, decreased to a minimum near 50 days followed by a steady increase to the end of the lactation while milk yield decreased. Fat and protein percentages were highest in winter and lowest in summer months. Seasonal variations of these components followed opposed trends of milk yield. The SCSs were high in the first 10 days of lactation decreasing to a minimum value respectively, from 50 to 60, and from 30 to 40 days for first and later parities and then increasing with similar rates to the end of the lactation. The variation of SCSs with month was similar for first and later parities. SCSs increased from February to June, and then decreased to a minimum in October. The increase of SCSs with cow age was curvilinear in first and linear in later lactations.

Utilizaram-se 3.063 registros de classificação linear de 2.593 vacas, obtidos entre 1997 e 1999, para estudar características de úbere, escore final de tipo e produções de leite e gordura por meio de modelo animal de repetibilidade para características múltiplas tomadas três a três. As médias das características de úbere variaram de 3,79 para colocação das tetas anteriores a 5,81 para altura do úbere posterior. A média do escore final para tipo foi 80 e para produções de leite e gordura foram, respectivamente, 7.019±1.817kg e 236±60kg. As repetibilidades variaram de 0,46 para profundidade do úbere a 0,76 para escore final de tipo, e as herdabilidades de 0,11 para ligamento suspensório mediano a 0,40 para escore final. Em geral, as correlações genéticas entre as características lineares de úbere foram altas e positivas. O maior valor foi entre altura e profundidade do úbere (0,71), seguida da correlação entre inserção anterior e profundidade do úbere (0,69). Ao envolver características produtivas e de úbere, o maior valor foi 0,46, obtido entre produção de leite e largura do úbere posterior. A correlação entre produção de gordura e largura do úbere foi moderada (0,23). Algumas correlações foram negativas e em geral as fenotípicas foram, em valores absolutos, inferiores às genéticas.

Data on 3,063 linear classification records from 2,593 cows, from 1997 to 1999, were used in these analyses. A multiple trait animal model for three simultaneous trait was used to obtain correlations between pairs of the linear udder traits, final score, and milk and fat yields. Averages for udder traits ranged from 3.79 for fore teat placement to 5.81 for fore udder height. The average of final score was 80 and for milk and fat yields were 7,019±1,817 kg and 236±60kg, respectively. Repeatabilities ranged from 0.46 for udder depth to 0.76 for final score and heritabilities ranged from 0.11 for udder cleft to 0.40 for final score. Genetic correlations among linear udder traits were generally high and positive. The highest genetic correlation for linear udder traits occurred between udder height and udder cleft (0.71), followed by the correlation between fore udder attachment and udder cleft (0.69). Genetic correlation that included production and udder traits showed that the highest value was 0.46 between milk yield and rear udder width. Fat yield was moderately correlated with rear udder width (0.23). Some negative relationships were found. Estimates of phenotypic correlations were generally lower in absolute values than their corresponding genetic correlations.

As produções de leite e de gordura de vacas da raça Holandesa puras de origem (PO) e puras por cruzamento (PC), com gerações controladas, foram analisadas por meio da metodologia de modelos mistos, utilizando máxima verossimilhança restrita e modelo animal. Foram utilizados dados coletados de 1986 a 1996, num total de 49.666 lactações de 26.822 vacas em 380 rebanhos, 9.468 PO e 17.354 PC. Os efeitos fixos foram rebanho/ano/estação, considerando-se três classes de dois meses em cada estação do ano, isto é, seca (abril - maio, junho - julho, agosto - setembro) e águas (outubro - novembro, dezembro - janeiro e fevereiro - março) e dois graus de sangue (PO e PC), além dos efeitos linear e quadrático de idade ao parto. O animal foi considerado como efeito aleatório. Para estimar o ganho genético das produções de leite e de gordura foram utilizadas 18.482 primeiras lactações, 8.938 de vacas PO e 9.544 de vacas PC. Foram também formadas cinco classes de produção: até 4.000kg, de 4.000 a 6.000kg, de 6.000 a 8.000kg, de 8.000 a 10.000kg e acima de 10.000kg. As médias gerais estimadas para produção de leite e de gordura até 305 dias, em duas ordenhas diárias, foram, respectivamente, 5.865,54 e 196,85kg. As médias de produção de leite e de gordura para a mesma classe de idade ao parto foram consistentemente maiores para as vacas PO. As estimativas de ganho genético anual para leite e gordura nas classes de produção citadas foram, respectivamente: 10,52 e 0,33kg; 8,31 e 0,25kg; 8,90 e 0,29kg; 11,00 e 0,36kg; e 9,50 e 0,36kg. As médias de produção de leite e de gordura para as vacas de primeira cria foram: 6.084,6 e 205,1kg e 5.739,5 e 191,8kg para vacas PO e PC, respectivamente. As estimativas de tendências genéticas de 8,7 e 9,6kg por ano para vacas PO e PC, embora pequenas, refletem aumento na capacidade de produção de leite no período.

Milk and fat production of purebred and grade Holstein dairy cows in Minas Gerais State, Brazil were analyzed by, mixed models methodology and restricted maximum likelihood in an animal model. The fixed effects were herd-year-season, genetic composition (purebred and grade) and the linear and quadratic effects of age at calving and the random effect was the animal. A total of 49,666 lactations of 26,822 cows from 380 herds, being 9,468 of purebred and 17,354 of grade were used. Two seasons, each with three classes of two months, dry season (April-May, June-July, August-September) and rainy season (October-November, December-January, February-March) were used. In order to estimate genetic gains, 18,482 records of cows in the first calving, being 8,938 of purebred and 9,544 of grade cows were used. The data were grouped in five classes: ≤4,000kg, from 4,000 to 6,000kg, from 6,000 to 8,000kg, from 8,000 to 10,000 and ≥10,000kg of milk production in 305 days. The overall milk and fat average were 5,865.54 and 196.85kg, respectively. The milk and fat averages for the same age classe were consistently larger for the purebred cows. The estimated genetic trend for milk and fat in each class of milk production were: 10.52 and 0.33kg, 8.31 and 0.25kg, 8.90 and 0.29kg, 11.00 and 0.36kg, 9.51 and 0.36kg by year, respectively. The average milk and fat production for cows of first calving were: 6,084.6 and 205.1kg, 5,739.5 and 191.8kg for purebred and grade cows. The estimated genetics trends of 8.7 and 9.6kg, for purebred and graded cows, although small, reflect an increasing in milk production potential from 1986 to 1996.

Foram estimados fatores de ajustamento para produção de leite e de gordura em rebanhos da raça Holandesa do Estado de Minas Gerais, segundo a idade da vaca ao parto, a composição racial e o núcleo de controle leiteiro onde ocorreu o parto. Utilizou-se a metodologia dos modelos mistos, usando-se a máxima verossimilhança restrita em um modelo animal com os efeitos fixos de rebanho-ano, época do parto e classes idade-composição racial-núcleo de controle leiteiro, e os efeitos aleatórios de animal e resíduo. Utilizaram-se 46.971 lactações de 26.822 vacas, sendo 17.354 vacas puras por cruzamento (PC) e 9.468 puras de origem (PO). Nos cinco núcleos regionais, denominados 1545, 2585, 5565, 35 e 75, formaram-se 21 classes de idade, sendo a menor constituída de vacas que pariram com menos de 24 meses e a maior pelas vacas com mais de 99 meses de idade. Para as vacas PO, os fatores para ajustamento da produção de leite e de gordura tenderam a ser menores do que os correspondentes valores estimados para as vacas PC; todavia, a variabilidade foi maior nas vacas PO em relação às PC nos núcleos 75, 2585 e 5565. Os fatores para vacas jovens foram maiores do que para vacas de maior idade. Os fatores de ajustamento para produção de gordura foram maiores que os correspondentes para produção de leite. É recomendável utilizar fatores específicos para o ajustamento da produção de leite e de gordura em cada núcleo e grupo racial.

Adjustment factors were estimated for milk and fat yields for Holstein herds according to age of cow at calving, genetic group (purebred or graded cows) and region of recorded milk yield (nucleus) in Minas Gerais State. Statistical analyses used mixed model methodologies by restricted maximum likelihood using animal model. Herd-year, season of calving, age of cow classes, genetic group, and region of recorded milk records were used as fixed effects, and cows and residuals as random effects. Analyses used 46,971 records of 26,822 cows being 17,354 classified as graded Holstein and 9,468 as purebred. In five regional nuclei, namely 1545, 2585, 5565, 35 and 75, cows were grouped in 21 age classes. The youngest one was formed by cows with less than 24 months and the oldest one by cows with 99 months of age or more. For purebred cows the age adjustment factors for milk and fat yields were lower than the correspondent ones for graded cows; however, the variability were higher for purebred cows compared to those of graded cows in 75, 2585 and 5565 regional nuclei. The age adjustment factors for young cows were higher than the correspondent factors for older cows. The fat yield adjustment factors were higher than milk yield adjustment factors in both purebred and graded cows. It is recommended to use specific factors for milk and fat yields estimated within nucleus and within genetic group.
