Abstract In order to estimate the Basic Quality Grade of beef carcasses according to bone maturity, marbling and Bos indicus racial predominance, data from 1,417 carcasses processed in four Federal Inspection Type establishments were analyzed. The following variables were recorded: cavitary fat, rib eye area, dorsal fat thickness, hump length and height, marbling, and bone maturity. Using the variables marbling and bone maturity, the Basic Grade of Quality was estimated in accordance with the norm NOM-004-SAGARPA-2018. The hump height was used as a criterion to determine racial predominance, and four groups were generated from this information. Based on the recorded values, descriptive statistics, analysis of variance, comparison of means, and Tukey's test were determined. The hump height in each group was 7.19, 10.54, 14.38, and 20.11 cm (P<0.01), respectively. 82 % of the carcasses were predominantly Bos indicus. The hot carcass weight was 310.05 kg for group 1 vs 326.99 kg for group 4 (P<0.01). The rib eye area was 85.59 cm2 for group 1 vs 89.14 cm2 for group 2 (P<0.05). Of the total number of carcasses evaluated, 60 were classified as Supreme quality (4.23 %), 655 as Select quality (46.22 %), 621 as Standard quality (43.82 %), and 81 as Commercial quality (5.72 %). The beef carcasses in this study have mainly a Bos indicus breed component, and their Basic Quality Grade corresponded primarily to a greater number of carcasses with grade A bone maturity, but with less marbling.

Resumen Para estimar el Grado Básico de Calidad de canales bovinas conforme a madurez ósea, marmoleo y predominancia racial Bos indicus, se analizaron los datos de 1,417 canales procesadas en cuatro establecimientos Tipo Inspección Federal. Se registraron las variables: grasa cavitaria, área del ojo de costilla, espesor de la grasa dorsal, largo y altura de la giba, marmoleo y madurez ósea. Mediante las variables marmoleo y madurez ósea se estimó el Grado Básico de Calidad con base en la NOM-004-SAGARPA-2018. La altura de la giba se utilizó como criterio para determinar la predominancia racial y mediante esta información se generaron cuatro grupos. Con base en los valores registrados, se determinaron las estadísticas descriptivas, análisis de la varianza comparación de medias, análisis de frecuencias y prueba de Tukey. La altura de la giba en cada grupo fue de 7.19, 10.54, 14.38 y 20.11 cm (P<0.01), respectivamente. El 82 % de las canales mostraron predominancia racial Bos indicus. El peso de la canal caliente fue 310.05 kg para el grupo 1 vs 326.99 kg para el grupo 4 (P<0.01). El área del ojo de la costilla fue de 85.59 cm2 para el grupo 1 vs 89.14 cm2 para el 2 (P<0.05). Del total de canales evaluadas, 60 clasificaron de calidad Suprema (4.23 %), 655 de calidad Selecta (46.22 %), 621 de calidad Estándar (43.82 %) y 81 Comerciales (5.72 %). Las canales de bovino objeto del presente estudio, presentan mayormente un componente racial Bos indicus y su Grado Básico de Calidad primordialmente correspondió a la mayor cantidad de canales con madurez ósea grado A, pero con menor marmoleo.

Abstract Introduction: In Mexico, cardiac rehabilitation (CR) as an interdisciplinary intervention with therapeutic impact in patients with heart disease is growing. There is the need to know actual conditions of CR in our country. Objectives: The objective of this National Registry is to follow-up those existing and new CR units in Mexico through the comparison between the two previous registries, RENAPREC-2009 and RENAPREC II-2015 studies. This is a descriptive study focused on diverse CR activities such as assistance training, and certification of health professionals, barriers, reference, population attended, interdisciplinarity, permanence over time, growth prospects, regulations, post-pandemic condition, integrative characteristics, and scientific research. Results: Data were collected from 45 CR centers in the 32 states, 75.5% are private practice units, 67% are new, 33% were part of RENAPREC II-2015, and 17 have continued since 2009. With a better distribution of CR units along the territory, the median reference of candidates for CR programs is 9% with a significant reduction into tiempo of enrollment to Phase II admission (19 ± 11 days). Regarding to previous registries, the coverance of Phases I, II, and III is 71%, 100%, and 93%, respectively; and a coverance increases in evaluation, risk stratification, and prescription, more comprehensive attendance and prevention strategies. Conclusions: CR in Mexico has grown in the past 7 years. Even there is still low reference and heterogeneity in specific processes, there are strengths such as interdisciplinarity, scientific professionalization of specialists, national diversification, and an official society that are consolidated over time.

Resumen Cuando un choque automotriz ocurre, la energía de impacto se transfiere a los pasajeros lo cual provoca lesiones graves y decesos. Con el objeto de analizar el efecto de las cargas dinámicas en el cuerpo humano, el uso de maniquíes de impacto está en incremento. Sin embargo, su costo es demasiado alto, así como su accesibilidad. Por lo tanto, el presente artículo propone el diseño y desarrollo de un modelo discreto que representa la cabeza y cuello de un maniquí para pruebas de impacto utilizando el software de elemento finito Abaqus. El modelo está conformado por cabeza, región cervical (cuello) incluyendo discos cervicales y discos intervertebrales. La evaluación del conjunto cabeza-cuello se llevó a cabo a través de una prueba de péndulo. Durante la evaluación de parámetros tales como la aceleración, la fuerza de velocidad y posición angular de la cabeza fueron obtenidos. Finalmente, los resultados de la viabilidad del modelo fueron validados mediante el fenómeno de latigazo.

Abstract When car crashes occur, the impact energy is transferred to passengers, provoking fatalities, and severe injuries. In this sense, the use of dummies to analyze the effect of dynamic loads on the human body is increasing. However, its cost is generally expensive and difficult to acquire. Thus, the current article proposes designing and developing a head-neck dummy using Abaqus finite element method software. The design of the dummy model is formed by the head, and neck which are formed by cervical and intervertebral plates. The assessment of the new head-neck model was carried out by a pendulum test. During the evaluation of parameters such as acceleration, velocity force, and angular position of the head were obtained. Finally, the results of the viability of the model were validated through the whiplash phenomenon.

RESUMEN: En 1995, Gebeck y Merrifield estudiaron muestras de Clase I y Clase II tratadas con éxito y sin éxito; encontraron una intrusión de -1,33 mm en el primero y una extrusión de 0,80 mm en el segundo. El propósito de este artículo fue realizar una evaluación cefalométrica del torque y los cambios verticales de los incisivos maxilares. Estudiamos una muestra de 129 pacientes, 30 hombres y 99 mujeres, tomados del estudio a largo plazo de la Fundación Charles H. Tweed, con una edad media previa al tratamiento de 12,93 años, una edad media posterior al tratamiento de 16,19 años y una edad media de seguimiento posterior a la retención de 29,83 años, con un intervalo de de 13,88 años. Los registros se recopilaron de médicos privados en todo el continente norteamericano que utilizaron Standard Edgewise Mechanics y eran miembros de la Fundación Charles H. Tweed. Todos los pacientes eran blancos americanos Clase I y II tratados con extracción de 4 premolares. Encontramos una medida lineal vertical del borde incisal anterior superior a PP de 28,7 y 29,2 mm, +0,53 mm (p<0,019) desde el pretratamiento hasta el postratamiento. El promedio del ángulo Superior 1 a SN fue de 103,2° en el pretratamiento y 100,1° en el postratamiento, -3,2° (p<0,000), Superior 1 a PP 111,0° y 108,9°, -2,2° (p<0,000), los tres estadísticamente significante. Por el contrario, Superior 1 a la comisura no lo era. Las cuatro mediciones también fueron estadísticamente significativas para el seguimiento después del tratamiento, los dientes anteriores superiores siguieron perdiendo torsión después del tratamiento y se observó menor superficie de los dientes anteriores superiores debajo de la comisura. Se puede esperar cierta pérdida de torque y extrusión vertical al tratar a pacientes con extracciones de cuatro premolares, por lo tanto, el aumento de la inclinación del incisivo superior y el cambio vertical por sí mismos no pueden determinar el éxito del tratamiento.

ABSTRACT: In 1995 Gebeck & Merrifield studied a successful and unsuccessful treated Class I and Class II’s samples; they found a -1.33 mm intrusion in the former and a 0.80 mm extrusion in the latter. The purpose of this article was to perform a cephalometric evaluation of maxillary incisors torque and vertical changes. We studied a sample of 129 patients, 30 males and 99 females, taken from The Charles H. Tweed Foundation Long Term Study, at pretreatment mean age 12.93 years, posttreatment mean age 16.19 years and follow up post retention mean age 29.83 years, a 13.88 years interval. The records were collected from private practitioners across the North American continent who used Standard Edgewise Mechanics and were members of the Charles H. Tweed Foundation. All patients were Class I and II American whites treated with the extraction of 4 premolars. We found an Upper anterior incisal edge to PP vertical linear measurement 28.7 and 29.2 mm, +0.53 mm (p<0.019) from pretreatment to posttreatment. The average Upper 1 to SN angle was 103.2 ° at pretreatment and 100.1° at posttreatment, -3.2° (p<0.000), Upper 1 to PP 111.0° and 108.9°, -2.2° (p<0.000), the three of them statistically significant. Conversely, Upper 1 to commissure was not. The four measurements were also statistically significant posttreatment to follow up, upper anteriors kept losing torque after posttreatment, and less upper anteriors surface was below the commissure. Some torque loss and vertical extrusion can be expected while treating patients with extractions of four premolars, therefore, upper incisor inclination increase and vertical change by itself cannot determine the success of treatment.

Resumen Peronospora tabacina es considerado el principal factor limitante en la producción de tabaco mundialmente. En México, la información sobre la diversidad genética de este patógeno es escasa; por lo que, el objetivo de esta investigación fue evaluar 12 microsatélites en 20 aislados recolectados en los estados de Nayarit, Chiapas y Veracruz. Se realizó la amplificación por PCR y secuenciación de estos microsatélites; así como el alineamiento y comparación de las secuencias depositadas en la base de datos del GenBank. Diecinueve aislados mostraron amplificación para los 12 microsatélites evaluados; mientras que, en uno de los aislados no se observó la amplificación de dos microsatélites, pudiéndose determinar que las cepas de P. tabacina presentes en México son genéticamente homogéneas. Se observaron regiones de dinucleótidos, la mayoría correspondientes a motivos repetidos (GT)n o variaciones (TG)n, también se visualizaron motivos (AC)n, (CA)n, (AT)n y (AG)n. Los aislados analizados en este estudio, pueden considerarse productos de líneas clonales por lo que no se observó diversidad genética en dichos aislados.

Abstract Peronospora tabacina is considered the main limiting factor in tobacco production worldwide. In Mexico, information on the genetic diversity of this pathogen is scarce; therefore, the objective of this research was to evaluate 12 microsatellites in 20 isolates collected in the states of Nayarit, Chiapas, and Veracruz. PCR amplification and sequencing of these microsatellites were performed; as well as the alignment and comparison of the sequences deposited in the GenBank database. A total of 19 isolates showed amplification for the 12 microsatellites evaluated, while in one of the isolates, the amplification of two microsatellites was not observed, it being possible to determine that P. tabacina isolates present in Nayarit, Chiapas, and Veracruz are genetically homogeneous. Regions of dinucleotides were observed, most corresponding to (GT)n repeat motifs or (TG)n variations, as well as (AC)n, (CA)n, (AT)n and (AG)n motifs. The isolates analyzed in this study can be considered products of clonal lines, therefore no genetic diversity was found in these isolates.

Resumen Para determinar la frecuencia y el puntaje de jadeo en bovinos productores de carne en finalización intensiva durante la séptima a la doceava semana del verano, se llevó a cabo un estudio observacional descriptivo con duración de seis semanas. Se eligieron 12 corrales de tres diferentes dimensiones. A las 0800, 1200 y 1600 horas se registraron la frecuencia y puntaje de jadeo, temperatura ambiental y humedad relativa; además, se calculó el índice de temperatura y humedad (ITH). La frecuencia se registró como el número de bovinos que manifestaron esta expresión en cada corral. Para registrar el puntaje de jadeo se utilizó una escala de cinco puntos. Los bovinos se asignaron a tres categorias: sin giba, con giba media y giba grande en correspondencia con la predominancia fenotipica de Bos taurus o Bos indicus. La mayor frecuencia de jadeos se observó a las 1200 y 1600 h (P<0.01), cuando el valor de ITH superó las 84 unidades. Se observó efecto (P<0.01) del diseño del corral, hora del día y tamaño de la giba sobre el puntaje de jadeo. En la manifestación de la frecuencia y puntaje de jadeo en bovinos productores de carne en corral de engorda intensiva, influyó la hora del día, el diseño del corral y la mayor predominancia fenotípica de Bos taurus.

Abstract Panting frequency and score are indicative of cattle well-being in intensive finishing feedlots. A six-week-long descriptive observational study was done of intensive finishing beef cattle during summer in the dry tropics in northwest Mexico. Data were collected on pen type, observation time (0800, 1200 and 1600 hours), panting frequency and score, environmental temperature, relative humidity and animal phenotypic predominance (i.e. Bos taurus or Bos indicus). The temperature and humidity index (THI) was calculated. Panting frequency was recorded as the number of animals exhibiting this behavior per pen, and panting scored on a five-point scale. Three categories of phenotype were assigned (no hump, medium hump and large hump), greater hump size being indicative of greater B. indicus influence. Panting frequency was highest at 1200 and 1600 h (P<0.01), when THI values consistently exceeded 84 units. Panting score tended to be higher (P<0.01) in pens with less space for individual animals, at later observation times, and in animals with no hump. Panting frequency and score in beef cattle in intensive feedlots was influenced by time of day, pen design and a predominantly B. taurus phenotype.

Resumen El objetivo fue evaluar el impacto de factores asociados al manejo de la madre y la calidad del calostro sobre la crianza de reemplazos bovinos durante la lactancia, en el sistema de producción de leche a pequeña escala. En 13 unidades de producción se obtuvo información del crecimiento corporal, la alimentación con calostro e información asociada a la madre de 220 becerras Holstein. Las variables de interés fueron: morbilidad, concentración de inmunoglobulinas en el calostro (CIC; <110 mg/ml), concentración de proteína sérica (CPS; <6.6 g/dl), ganancia diaria de peso (GDP; <0.650 kg/día) y ganancia diaria de altura (GDA; <0.222 cm/día). Los factores de estudio fueron: peso corporal al nacimiento (PCN; <42 kg), altura al nacimiento (AN; <82 cm), calostro consumido el primer día (CCPD; <4 l), calostro consumido el primer día/kg de PV (CPDPV), condición corporal al parto (CCP; <3), duración del periodo seco (DPS; >68 días), vacas primíparas (VP) y vacas sin dieta de reto (VSDR). Para determinar el impacto de los factores de estudio sobre los eventos de interés, se obtuvo la razón de momios a partir de análisis de regresión logística múltiple. Los factores identificados para morbilidad fueron CCPD y VP (P<0.1). Los factores para CIC fueron la DPS y VSDR (P<0.1), mientras que para la GDP lo fue VSDR (P<0.1). Finalmente, los factores para GDA fueron VSDR, PCN, AN y CPDPV (P<0.1). Estos resultados sugieren que la nutrición de la madre durante la gestación tardía tiene un impacto importante sobre la salud y el desarrollo corporal de las becerras durante la lactancia. Estudios adicionales deberán determinar los efectos a largo plazo.

Abstract The objective was to evaluate the impact of factors associated with the management of the mother and the quality of colostrum on the calf rearing during lactation, in the small-scale milk production system. In 13 dairy farms, information was obtained on body growth, colostrum feeding and information associated with the mother of 220 Holstein calves. The variables of interest were: morbidity, concentration of immunoglobulins in colostrum (CIC; <110 mg/ml), serum protein concentration (SPC; <6.6 g/dL), daily weight gain (DWG; <0.650 kg/d) and daily height gain (DHG; <0.222 cm/d). The study factors were: body weight at birth (BWB; <42 kg), height at birth (HB; <82 cm), colostrum consumed on the first day (CCFD; <4 l), colostrum consumed on the first day/kg of LW (CFDLW), body condition at calving (BCC; <3), length of the dry period (LDP; >68 d), primiparous cows (PC) and cows without a challenge diet (CWCD). To determine the impact of the study factors on the events of interest, the odds ratio was obtained from multiple logistic regression analyses. The factors identified for morbidity were CCFD and PC (P<0.1). The factors for CIC were LDP and CWCD (P<0.1), while for DWG, it was CWCD (P<0.1). Finally, the factors for DHG were CWCD, BWB, HB and CFDLW (P<0.1). These results suggest that the mother’s nutrition during late gestation has an important impact on the health and body development of calves during lactation. Further studies should determine long-term effects.

ABSTRACT One of the greatest environmental impacts from livestock is caused by enteric methane emissions, a powerful greenhouse gas. In this context, some anti-methanogenic compounds have been evaluated, such as lovastatin (LOV), which is a hydroxymethylglutaryl-CoA reductase inhibitor, a key enzyme for membrane synthesis of methanogenic archaea. This could be an option to mitigate methane emissions from ruminants. However, there are few in vitro studies and there is no general agreement about the methane mitigation by LOV under these conditions. Thus, the objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of LOV on in vitro methanogenesis and fermentation characteristics in comparison with monensin (MON) and bromoethane sulfonic acid (BES). An in vitro batch incubation was carried out using a high-grain diet and bovine rumen fluid. The experimental design was completely randomized with three treatments, LOV, MON, BES, and a control with no inhibitor. The results demonstrated a favorable effect of LOV on rumen fermentation pattern in terms of methane mitigation (43.56 % inhibition) without affecting the volatile fatty acids (VFA) profile. However, the dose of LOV to obtain this result was very high compared to the doses used in the other treatments. MON was the most effective treatment based on the concentration/inhibition of methanogenesis, followed by the BES; although, both compounds were associated to changes in the VFA profile.

RESUMEN Uno de los mayores impactos ambientales de la ganadería es la emisión de metano entérico, un potente gas de efecto invernadero. En este contexto, se han evaluado algunos compuestos antimetanogénicos tales como la lovastatina (LOV), un inhibidor de la hidroximetilglutaril-CoA reductasa, enzima clave para la síntesis de membrana en arqueas metanogénicas. Esta podría ser una opción para mitigar las emisiones de metano ruminal. Sin embargo, los experimentos in vitro son escasos y no existe un criterio general sobre la mitigación de metano con LOV en estas condiciones. Por lo tanto, el objetivo de esta investigación fue evaluar el efecto in vitro de la LOV sobre la metanogénesis y características de la fermentación ruminal, así como comparar los resultados con aquellos de la monensina (MON) y el ácido bromoetano sulfónico (BES). Se realizó una prueba in vitro en lote. Se utilizó una ración alta en grano, fluido ruminal de bovinos y tres inhibidores metanogénicos. El diseño experimental fue completamente al azar con tres tratamientos (LOV, MON, BES) y un testigo sin inhibidor. En este trabajo la LOV mostró efectos alentadores sobre la mitigación de la metanogénesis en la fermentación ruminal (43.56 %) sin afectar la producción total y perfil de AGV. Sin embargo, la dosis para obtener este resultado fue mayor en comparación con las de los otros tratamientos. La MON fue la más efectiva con relación a la concentración/inhibición de la metanogénesis, seguida del BES. Ambos tratamientos presentaron cambios en el perfil de AGV.

Resumen El pasto lobero (Muhlenbergia phleoides [Kunth] Columbus) es un recurso forrajero nativo del norte de México; sin embargo, se desconoce su variabilidad en cuanto a atributos forrajeros. El objetivo de este estudio fue caracterizar la variabilidad morfológica y nutricional de 30 poblaciones de pasto lobero del estado de Chihuahua. La caracterización se realizó el segundo año de establecimiento a través de las variables morfológicas y nutricionales. Los datos morfológicos se analizaron con técnicas multivariadas. Para los datos nutricionales se realizó análisis de varianza y comparación de medias Tukey. Los tres primeros CP (componentes principales) explicaron el 82.38% de la variación total. El análisis de conglomerados jerárquicos identificó cuatro grupos. En el análisis nutricional, las poblaciones solo presentaron diferencias (p < 0.05) en la variable PC. La variabilidad que presentó el pasto lobero permite inferir que existe diversidad morfológica entre poblaciones del estado de Chihuahua; no obstante, las variables nutricionales no presentaron diferencia entre las poblaciones de esta especie.

Abstract Wolftail grass (Muhlenbergia phleoides [Kunth] Columbus) is a native forage resource from northern Mexico; however, its variability in terms of forage attributes is unknown. The objective of this study was to characterize the morphological and nutritional variability of 30 populations of wolftail grass in the state of Chihuahua. The characterization was carried out the second year of establishment through the morphological and nutritional variables. Morphological data were analyzed with multivariate techniques. For nutritional data, analysis of variance and comparison of Tukey means were performed. The first three PC (principal components) explained 82.38% of the total variation. Hierarchical cluster analysis identified four groups. In the nutritional analysis, the populations only presented differences (p < 0.05) in the CP variable. The variability that wolftail grass presented allows to infer that there is morphological diversity among populations of the state of Chihuahua; however, the nutritional variables did not show differences between the populations of this species.

Resumen El objetivo fue determinar si una solución salina ozonizada (SSO3) incrementa los neutrófilos polimorfonucleares (NPMN) endometriales (Exp 1) y desafiar el efecto preventivo de SSO3 sobre la endometritis subclínica (ESC) (Exp 2). En el Exp 1 se utilizaron 38 vacas Holstein primíparas. Se incluyeron vacas con (CAM) y sin antecedentes de metritis postparto (SAM); posteriormente se repartieron en subgrupos control (CTRL, solución salina) o SSO3 (6.7 ± 0.3 ppm). A los 55 días postparto se aplicó 50 ml de CTRL o SSO3 intrauterinamente y a las 48 h se registró la cantidad de NPMN por citología endometrial. En el Exp 2 se utilizaron 26 vacas Holstein primíparas SAM. Las vacas se repartieron aleatoriamente en CTRL o SSO3. Se administraron dos dosis de 50 ml con intervalo de 7 días (primera aplicación 11.3 ± 0.4 días postparto). Al día 30 postparto se diagnosticó ESC (≥6% NPMN). Las vacas CAM tuvieron mayor número de NPMN endometriales comparado con vacas SAM (13.9 ± 6.2 vs 1.0±0.46, P<0.05). El grupo CAM-CTRL presentó mayor número de NPMN que el SAM-CTRL (17.0 ± 9.6 vs 0.1 ± 0.1, P<0.05) mientras que los grupos CAM-SSO3 y SAM-SSO3 (10.4 ± 8.1 vs 1.8±4.8, P>0.05) y SAM-CTRL y SAM-SSO3 (0.1 ± 0.1 y 1.8 ± 4.8, P>0.05) no fueron diferentes. Se observó una tendencia estadística (P=0.09) de menor porcentaje de ESC en grupo CTRL comparado con SSO3 (15.4 y 46.2 %, respectivamente). En conclusión, la SSO3 por vía transcervical no incrementa el número de NPMN endometriales y el tratamiento preventivo con SSO3 aplicado a vacas SAM no disminuyó la ESC. Los resultados sugieren un posible efecto antiinflamatorio del tratamiento solución salina ionizada.

Abstract The objective was to determine whether an ozonized saline solution (O3SS) increases endometrial polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMNN) (Exp 1) and to challenge the preventive effect of O3SS on subclinical endometritis (SCE) (Exp 2). In Exp 1, 38 primiparous Holstein cows were used. Cows with (WHM) and no history of postpartum metritis (NHM) were included; they were then divided into control (CTRL, saline solution) or O3SS (6.7 ± 0.3 ppm) subgroups. At 55 d postpartum, 50 ml of CTRL or O3SS was applied intrauterinely and at 48 h, the quantity of PMNN was recorded by endometrial cytology. In Exp 2, 26 primiparous NHM Holstein cows were used. The cows were randomly distributed in CTRL or O3SS. Two doses of 50 ml were administered with an interval of 7 d (first application 11.3 ± 0.4 d postpartum). At d 30 postpartum, SCE (≥6 % PMNN) was diagnosed. WHM cows had higher numbers of endometrial PMNN compared to NHM cows (13.9 ± 6.2 vs 1.0 ± 0.46, P<0.05). The WHM-CTRL group had a higher number of PMNN than NHM-CTRL (17.0 ± 9.6 vs 0.1 ± 0.1, P<0.05), while the WHM-O3SS and NHM-O3SS groups (10.4 ± 8.1 vs 1.8 ± 4.8, P>0.05) and the NHM-CTRL and NHM-O3SS groups (0.1 ± 0.1 and 1.8 ± 4.8, P>0.05) were not different. A statistical trend (P=0.09) of lower percentage of SCE was observed in the CTRL group compared to O3SS (15.4 and 46.2 %, respectively). In conclusion, transcervical O3SS does not increase the number of endometrial PMNN and preventive treatment with O3SS applied to NHM cows did not decrease SCE. The results suggest a possible anti-inflammatory effect of the ionized saline solution treatment.

ABSTRACT The Araró-Simirao geothermal system is located in the southeastern part of the Cuitzeo Lake depression, in the central part of the TransMexican Volcanic Belt (TMVB) province. It is a convective hydrothermal system dominated by sodium chloride water and high boron content. The thermal springs mainly release CO2 and lower concentrations of H2S, H2, and noble gases (He, Ne, and Ar). The aim of this study was to delimit the upflow areas in this geothermal system by determining the relationships between diffuse gas emission concentrations in soils and the zones of the greatest plausible permeability. Three sampling campaigns were carried out in 2018 (August and November) and 2019 (May). In these campaigns, diffuse gas emission in soils (CO2, Rn, and Hg vapors) and soil temperature were measured. The diffuse gas emission measurements ranged from 0.8 to 1,421 g m-2d-1 for CO2 flux, from 0.49 to 2,914 ng/m3 for gaseous elemental mercury (GEM), from 1,060 to 124,100 Bq/m3 for 222Rn, and from 0 to 7,511 Bq/m3 for 220Rn. The highest values were obtained in the dry season (May). Several anomalous zones of CO2 fluxes, GEM, and222Rn were found to match faults and lineaments, interpreted as the greatest permeability zones. The zone with the highest values of these three parameters was located in the so-called mud pool at the crossing of the Araró-Simirao fault with a NW-SE (south zone) lineament, which is associated with the upflow zone of the system. Other anomalous zones were located in fracture and/or lineament zones in the central and northern parts of the system, which are associated with the outflow zone. According to the data obtained herein, CO2 could work as a carrier of Hg and 222Rn in the upflow zone; and this gas may be dissolved in the groundwater in the outflow zone.

RESUMEN El sistema geotérmico Araró-Simirao está ubicado en el sector sureste de la depresión del lago Cuitzeo, en la parte central de la provincia del Cinturón Volcánico TransMexicano (TMVB). Es un sistema hidrotermal convectivo, líquido dominante, con agua tipo clorurada-sódica y alto contenido de boro. Los manantiales termales emiten principalmente gases de CO2y cantidades menores de H2S, H2 y gases nobles (He, Ne y Ar). El objetivo de este estudio fue delimitar las áreas de ascenso de fluidos en el sistema geotérmico, determinando la relación entre las áreas con mayores flujos de gases difusos en los suelos y las zonas de mayor permeabilidad. Se realizaron tres campañas de muestreo en 2018 (agosto y noviembre) y 2019 (mayo). En estas campañas se realizaron mediciones de emisiones difusas de gases (CO2, Rn y vapores de Hg) y de la temperatura del suelo. Las concentraciones obtenidas para la emisión de gases difusos fueron: de 0,8 a 1.421 g m-2d-1 para el flujo de CO2, de 0,49 a 2.914 ng/m3 para el mercurio elemental gaseoso (GEM), de 1.060 a 124.100 Bq/m3 para 222Rn y de 0 a 7.511 Bq/m3 para220Rn. Los valores más altos se registraron en la época seca (mayo). Se determinó que varias zonas con flujos anómalos de CO2, GEM y 222Rn coincidían con zonas de fallas y lineamientos, interpretados como las de mayor permeabilidad. La zona con los valores más altos de estos tres parámetros se ubicó en la denominada poza de lodo, en el cruce de la falla Araró-Simirao con un lineamiento NW-SE (zona sur), el cual está asociado a la zona de upflow del sistema (ascenso vertical de gases). Otras anomalías se ubicaron en zonas de fracturas y/o lineamientos en la parte central y norte del sistema, las cuales están asociadas con la zona de outflow. De acuerdo con los resultados obtenidos, el CO2 podría actuar como portador de los gases de Hg y 222Rn en la zona de upflow; mientras que, en la zona de outflow, este gas podría estar presente en forma disuelta en el agua subterránea.

ABSTRACT The thermal comfort of beef cattle in intensive finishing was assessed through the availability of shade and living space, in conditions of the very hot semi-dry climate of the northwestern coastal region of Mexico during autumn and winter and housed in three types of pens. The design of the pens varied according to the infrastructure available in the livestock production unit (pen area and shade per animal). The observation period was six weeks per season. The daily ambient temperature and relative humidity were measured, and the Temperature and Humidity Index (ITH) was calculated. The area of each pen, the shade area, and the number of cattle per pen were measured to calculate the living space and the shade available at the beginning and at the end of the fattening period. In autumn, the cattle were in a state of Danger to Emergency Thermal (ITH >84 units) and in the winter in a state of Thermal Alert (ITH >70). The provision of living space and shade was insufficient in both seasons and periods according to indicators for confined meat-producing cattle, regardless of the pen design.

RESUMEN Se valoró el confort térmico de ganado bovino productor de carne en finalización intensiva, mediante la disponibilidad de sombra y espacio vital, en condiciones de clima semiseco muy cálido de la región costera del noroeste de México durante el otoño y el invierno y alojados en tres tipos de corral. El diseño de los corrales varió de acuerdo con la infraestructura disponible en la unidad de producción pecuaria (área de corral y sombra por animal). El periodo de observación fue de seis semanas por época. Se registró la temperatura ambiente y la humedad relativa diaria y se calculó el Índice de Temperatura y Humedad (ITH). Se midió el área de cada corral, el área de sombra y el número de bovinos por corral para calcular el espacio vital y la sombra disponible al inicio y al final del periodo de engorde. En otoño, el ganado se encontró en estado de Peligro a Emergencia térmica (ITH >84 unidades) y en el invierno en estado de Alerta térmica (ITH >70). La provisión de espacio vital y de sombra fue insuficiente en ambas épocas y periodos de engorda de acuerdo con indicadores para la especie bovina productora de carne en confinamiento, independientemente del diseño del corral.

Abstract Medical attention is not free from committing mistakes that can increase mortality and costs. The International Goals for Patient Safety include correct patient identification. The use of wristbands reduces the number of adverse events. The rate of non-identified patients at the moment of phlebotomy was investigated retrospectively during 2019. The annual rate of non-identified patients was 9.8% and higher rates were observed from April to September. Monday was the day with the highest rate of non-identified. There was statistically significant relationship between the month rate of non-identified patients and the number of discharges from operative unit per month (r=0.6465; p=0.0237) and the bed turnover rate (r=0.7776; p=0.0029). Other wristband identification errors are unknown. The investigation detected failures in patient identification that allowed to make recommendations. In order to reduce the number of missing wristbands it will be necessary to monitor the indicator, especially during the months with the highest number of discharges and bed turnover rate, to evaluate the adherence of the personnel to the current protocol and to carry out training programs.

Resumen La atención médica no se encuentra libre de errores, que pueden poner en riesgo tanto la salud como la vida de los pacientes, con aumento de la morbimortalidad y los costos del sistema sanitario. Las recomendaciones internacionales de seguridad del paciente incluyen una correcta identificación. El uso de pulseras identificatorias reduce la cantidad de eventos adversos. Se investigó en forma retrospectiva la tasa de pacientes sin pulsera identificatoria al momento de la extracción sanguínea durante el año 2019 en el Instituto de Investigaciones Médicas Alfredo Lanari (IDIM). Se registró un total de 521 casos de pacientes no identificados sobre 5267 pedidos de laboratorio. La tasa anual de no identificados fue de 9.8%, superior al máximo ac eptable, y entre abril a septiembre se observaron mayores valores promedio. El día de la semana con mayor tasa de no identificados fueron los lunes con un 14%. Se observó una relación estadísticamente significativa entre la tasa mensual de no identificados con la cantidad mensual de egresos d e unidades operativas (r = 0.6465; p = 0.0237) y con el giro cama (r = 0.7776; p = 0.0029). Se desconoce si hubo otros errores de identificación. El estudio permitió conocer fallas en la identificación de pacientes internados. Se recomienda monitorear el indicador es pecialmente durante los meses con mayor cantidad de egresos y giro cama, evaluar la adherencia del personal al protocolo vigente y realizar capacitaciones para lograr una menor tasa de no identificados.

Abstract Introduction: In most emergency services in Peru there is no vascular surgeon, the general surgeon having to solve the vascular problems. General surgeons need to be trained in vascular management, especially those life-threatening conditions. Objective: To share the results of the first course of vascular surgery for the non-vascular surgeon and the level of satisfaction of the participating students. Method: The training course used five simulation models distributed in five practical sessions. At the end of the course, the students were evaluated using the OSATS (Objective Structured Assessment of Technical Skills) scale and the arterial anastomosis time was measured; Additionally, the level of satisfaction of the course was evaluated. Results: 12 students participated, 8 met the inclusion criteria, the mean age was 39.9 years, the OSATS score was 19 (± 2.1) and the anastomosis time 17.6 (± 7.9) minutes. The level of overall course satisfaction was 31.05, there were no significant differences between the satisfaction of the different practical sessions (p = 0.85). The Cronbach's alpha for the survey was 0.96 (Excellent). Conclusions: The intensive vascular training course combines different surgical scenarios based on simulation. The level of satisfaction of the course and the reliability of the survey "perception of simulation practices" were excellent.

Resumen Introducción: En la mayoría de los servicios de emergencia del Perú no se cuenta con un cirujano vascular, teniendo que resolver los problemas vasculares el cirujano general. Es necesario que los cirujanos generales estén entrenados en el manejo vascular, sobre todo de aquellas condiciones que pueden comprometer la vida. Objetivo: Compartir los resultados del primer curso de cirugía vascular para el cirujano no vascular y el nivel de satisfacción de los alumnos participantes. Método: El curso de entrenamiento utilizó cinco modelos de simulación distribuidos en cinco sesiones prácticas. Al final del curso se evaluó a los alumnos usando la escala OSATS (Objetive Structured Assesment of Technical Skills) y se midió el tiempo de anastomosis arterial; adicionalmente se evaluó el nivel de satisfacción del curso. Resultados: Participaron 12 alumnos, de los cuales ocho cumplieron los criterios de inclusión. La edad media fue de 39.9 años. La calificación OSATS fue de 19 (± 2.1). El tiempo de anastomosis fue de 17.6 (± 7.9) minutos. El nivel de satisfacción global de curso fue de 31.05; no hubo diferencias significativas entre la satisfacción de las diferentes sesiones prácticas (p = 0.85). El alfa de Cronbach de la encuesta fue de 0,96 (excelente). Conclusiones: El curso intensivo de entrenamiento vascular combina diferentes escenarios quirúrgicos basados en la simulación. El nivel de satisfacción del curso y la fiabilidad de la encuesta para «percepción de las prácticas de simulación» fueron excelentes.

Abstract The state of Chiapas is the second largest cacao producer in Mexico; however, agricultural yields are low, and in many regions, there are limits related to edaphoclimatic factors. Therefore, the research aimed to identify edaphoclimatic areas that meet the requirements of cacao, based on achieving a higher yield in the state of Chiapas. The methodology used was founded and designed as a simplified form of the general methodology of FAO and based on methodological proposals made in coffee and cacao cultivation in other countries, with specific adaptations to the specific conditions and existing information of Chiapas. The edaphoclimatic conditions characterizing four categories of zoning (optimal, medium optimal, acceptable and unsuitable), represented on maps at 1:100 000 scale, were determined. A total area of 1 549 804.4 ha with different productive potentials was identified, representing 20.08% of the total area of the state and distributed in 59 municipalities. Of these, 34 have no history of cultivation, indicating the possibilities of exploring new areas for it. Extreme temperatures (low and high) and the physical properties of the soil were the main limiting factors for cacao development and occupy the largest unsuitable area of the state. From a practical point of view, the results are a tool for making decisions on a wide scale for the establishment of cacao cultivation in Chiapas.

Resumen El estado de Chiapas es el segundo productor de cacao en México; sin embargo, los rendimientos agrícolas son bajos y en muchas regiones existen limitantes relacionadas con factores edafoclimáticos. Por ello, la investigación tuvo como objetivo identificar zonas edafoclimáticas que respondan a los requerimientos del cacao, en función de alcanzar un mayor rendimiento en el estado de Chiapas. La metodología utilizada se fundamentó y diseñó como una forma simplificada de la metodología general de la FAO y a partir de las propuestas metodológicas realizadas en los cultivos de café y cacao en otros países, con adecuaciones específicas a las condiciones particulares e información existente de Chiapas. Se determinaron las condiciones edafoclimáticas que caracterizan cuatro categorías de zonificación (óptima, medianamente óptima, aceptable y no apta) representadas en mapas a escala 1:100 000. Se identificó una superficie total de 1 549 804.4 ha con diferentes potenciales productivos, que representa 20.08% la superficie total del estado y distribuida en 59 municipios. De ellos 34 no tienen antecedentes del cultivo, lo que indica las posibilidades de explorar nuevas áreas para el mismo. Las temperaturas extremas (bajas y altas) y las propiedades físicas del suelo constituyeron los principales factores limitantes para el desarrollo del cacao y ocupan la mayor superficie no apta del estado. Desde el punto de vista práctico, los resultados constituyen una herramienta para la toma de decisiones en una amplia escala para el establecimiento del cultivo del cacao en Chiapas.
