Abstract This work aimed to show which treatments showed efficacy against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19); therefore, the results of 37 clinical trials started in 2020 and completed in 2021 are reviewed and discussed here. These were selected from databases, excluding vaccines, computational studies, in silico, in vitro, and those with hyperimmune sera from recovered patients. We found 34 drugs, one vitamin, and one herbal remedy with pharmacological activity against symptomatic COVID-19. They reduced mortality, disease progression, or recovery time. For each treatment, the identifier and type of trial, the severity of the disease, the sponsor, the country where the trial was conducted, and the trial results are presented. The drugs were classified according to their mechanism of action. Several drugs that reduced mortality also reduced inflammation in the most severe cases. These include some that are not considered anti-inflammatory, such as Aviptadil, pyridostigmine bromide, anakinra, imatinib, baricitinib, and bevacizumab, as well as the combination of ivermectin, aspirin, dexamethasone, and enoxaparin. Nigella sativa seeds with honey have also been reported to have therapeutic activity. On the other hand, tofacitinib, novaferon with ritonavir, and lopinavir were also effective, as well as in combination with antiviral therapies such as danoprevir with ritonavir. The natural products colchicine and Vitamin D3 were only effective in patients with mild-to-moderate COVID-19, as was hydroxychloroquine. Drug repositioning has been the main tool in the search for effective therapies by expanding the pharmacological options available to patients.

Resumen El objetivo del presente trabajo fue conocer qué tratamientos mostraron efectividad contra COVID-19, para lo cual se revisan y discuten los resultados de 37 estudios clínicos iniciados durante 2020 y concluidos en 2021. Estos fueron seleccionados de bases de datos, excluyendo vacunas, estudios computacionales, in silico, in vitro y con sueros hiperinmunes de pacientes recuperados. Se documentaron 34 fármacos, una vitamina y un remedio herbolario, con actividad farmacológica ante COVID-19 sintomático. Estos redujeron la mortalidad, el progreso de la enfermedad, o el tiempo de recuperación. Para cada tratamiento se presenta identificador y tipo de estudio, la gravedad de la enfermedad, patrocinador, país donde se realizó, así como sus resultados. Los fármacos se clasificaron de acuerdo con su mecanismo de acción. Varios fármacos que redujeron la mortalidad también disminuyeron la inflamación en los casos más graves. Esto incluyendo algunos no considerados antiinflamatorios, como el aviptadil, el bromuro de piridostigmina, el anakinra, el imatinib, el baricitinib y el bevacizumab, así como la combinación de ivermectina, aspirina, dexametasona y enoxaparina. También se reportaron con actividad terapéutica las semillas de Nigella sativa con miel. Además, resultaron efectivos el tofacitinib, el novaferón con ritonavir y lopinavir, así como los antivirales en terapias combinadas como el danoprevir con ritonavir. Los productos naturales colchicina y vitamina D3, solo tuvieron actividad en los pacientes en estado leve a moderado de la COVID-19, así como la hidroxicloroquina. El reposicionamiento de fármacos fue la principal herramienta para buscar terapias efectivas ampliando las opciones farmacológicas accesibles a los pacientes.

Resumen OBJETIVO: Determinar la prevalencia de alteraciones en la citología anal, infección anal por virus del papiloma humano y en la neoplasia intraepitelial anal; además, explorar los factores de riesgo y los serotipos asociados en pacientes con lesión intraepitelial cervical de alto grado, a partir de la hipótesis de que esta población tiene mayor riesgo de lesiones precursoras o cáncer anal. MATERIALES Y MÉTODOS: Estudio observacional, descriptivo y transversal, con componente analítico, efectuado en pacientes con diagnóstico de lesión intraepitelial cervical de alto grado (LIEAG) en dos instituciones de salud: una privada y otra pública de Bogotá, atendidas entre enero de 2017 y febrero de 2018. Se efectuó un muestreo no probabilístico, por conveniencia. RESULTADOS: Se incluyeron 119 participantes, en 4 de ellas se evidenció, en la citología anal, el hallazgo de células anormales en el tejido que reviste la parte exterior del cuello uterino. Se encontraron 14 anoscopias anormales que dieron una prevalencia de neoplasia intraepitelial anal del 6.7%. Siete eran neoplasia intraepitelial anal de bajo grado y una de alto grado. Se encontró infección por VPH anal en 45 participantes (37.8%) y se detectaron genotipos de VPH-AR en 29 participantes (24.4%). Más de 3 compañeros sexuales, más de 3 hijos y tener menos de 21 años antes del primer embarazo tuvieron un valor de p < 0.05 que confiere mayor riesgo de infección por VPH anal. CONCLUSIÓN: Es importante establecer en Colombia protocolos para la detección de la neoplasia intraepitelial anal en grupos de alto riesgo, como las pacientes con neoplasia intraepitelial cervical o cáncer de cuello uterino, e incentivar el adiestramiento en la anoscopia de alta resolución en especialistas relacionados con el diagnóstico de patología anogenital.

Abstract OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence of alterations in anal cytology, anal human papillomavirus infection, and anal intraepithelial neoplasia, and to explore the risk factors and associated serotypes in patients with high-grade cervical intraepithelial lesion, based on the hypothesis that this population is at higher risk for precancerous lesions or anal cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study, with analytical component, performed in patients diagnosed with high-grade cervical intraepithelial lesion (HG-CIL) in two health institutions: one private and one public in Bogota, visited between January 2017 and February 2018. A non-probabilistic sampling was performed, by convenience, with a sample calculated in 124 patients. RESULTS: 119 participants were included, in 4 of them it was evidenced in the anal cytology, the finding of abnormal cells in the tissue lining the outside of the cervix. Fourteen abnormal anoscopies were found, giving a prevalence of anal intraepithelial neoplasia of 6.7%. Seven were low-grade anal intraepithelial neoplasia and one was high-grade. Anal HPV infection was detected in 45 participants (37.8%) and HR-HPV genotypes were detected in 29 participants (24.4%). More than 3 sexual partners, more than 3 children and being younger than 21 years before first pregnancy had a p-value < 0.05 conferring an increased risk of anal HPV infection. CONCLUSION: It is important to establish protocols in Colombia for the detection of anal intraepithelial neoplasia in high-risk groups, such as patients with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia or cervical cancer, and to promote training in high-resolution anoscopy in specialties related to the diagnosis of anogenital pathology.

RESUMEN Medimos las propiedades ópticas de aerosoles con dos espectrómetros fotoacústicos que operaban a longitudes de onda de 532 y 870 nm y tomamos muestras de PM2.5 para analizar el contenido de carbono orgánico (OC, por su sigla en inglés) y carbono elemental (EC). El sitio de medición estaba en la esquina suroeste de la Ciudad de México. Ordenamos los datos por cocientes OC/EC y calculamos cuatro eficiencias de absorción de masa (MAE) para cada longitud de onda. Los diferentes MAE variaron de 2.27 a 19.75 m2 g-1 a 532 nm y 2.03-15.26 m2 g-1 a 870 nm, con coeficientes de determinación superiores a 0.88, lo que demuestra que la cantidad de OC modifica las propiedades de absorción de las partículas, en ocasiones subestimando o sobreestimando la concentración de carbono negro. Se puede elegir un MAE con base en la concentración mediana diaria de O3 si no hay información sobre la composición de EC y OC de los aerosoles atmosféricos.

ABSTRACT We measured the optical properties of aerosols with two photoacoustic spectrometers operating at 532 and 870 nm wavelengths and sampled PM2.5 to analyze the organic carbon (OC) and elemental carbon (EC) content. The measuring site was in the southwest corner of Mexico City. We sorted the data by OC/EC ratios and calculated four mass absorption efficiencies (MAEs) for each wavelength with linear regressions. The MAEs ranged from 2.27 to 19.75 and 2.03 to 15.26 m2 g-1 at 532 and 870 nm, respectively, with determination coefficients above 0.88, showing that the amount of OC modifies the absorption properties of particles, sometimes underestimating or overestimating the black carbon concentration. It is possible to choose the MAE based on the daily median O3 concentration when there is no information about the EC and OC composition.

ABSTRACT Introduction: The objective of the research was to characterize the prevailing social imaginaries about violence against women in youth groups and their differences by gender in order to work on the prevention of practices and transformation of subjectivities. Methods: The project was structured in two stages with a quantitative-qualitative methodological strategy. In the first, a diagnosis was made through a self-administered questionnaire and documentary review on youth, gender, and communication, with emphasis on those associated with violence against women. The second was aimed at deepening through focus groups and individual interviews with young people and specialists on the subject. Results and discussion: It was shown prevalence of stereotypes and prejudices in gender roles that reproduce patriarchal power relations and make existing forms of violence invisible. A majority consensus was found by sex/gender, age groups and skin color about what it is to be a man or a woman in Cuba today, although with differences in the notions about both, more homogeneous in the case of being a man, while being a woman, the image was more heterogeneous and three archetypal imageries were identified. Various expressions of violence against women were recognized in the public, private and media spheres, and although there was a general rejection of these behaviors and a certain positive predisposition to confront them, an active stance to act against them did not predominate. As some conclusions the role of communication for the prevention of violence is recognized; different ways, means and actors were identified and dissimilar proposals were made.

RESUMEN Introducción. La investigación tuvo como objetivo caracterizar los imaginarios sociales predominantes acerca de la violencia contra las mujeres en grupos juveniles y sus diferencias por género para trabajar en la prevención de prácticas y transformación de subjetividades. Métodos. El proyecto se estructuró en 2 etapas con una estrategia metodológica cuanti-cualitativa. En la primera se realizó un diagnóstico a través de un cuestionario autoadministrado y revisión documental sobre juventud, género y comunicación, con énfasis en las asociadas a las violencias contra las mujeres. La segunda estuvo dirigida a profundizar a través de grupos focales y entrevistas individuales a jóvenes y a especialistas en el tema. Resultados y discusión. Se mostró la prevalencia de estereotipos y prejuicios en roles de género que reproducen relaciones de poder patriarcales e invisibilizan formas de violencia existentes. Se encontraron consensos mayoritarios por sexo/género, grupos etarios y color de la piel acerca de qué es ser hombre o mujer en Cuba hoy, aunque con diferencias en las nociones sobre ambos, más homogénea en el caso del ser hombre, mientras en ser mujer, la imagen fue más heterogénea y se identificaron 3 imaginarios arquetípicos. Fueron reconocidas diversas expresiones de violencia contra las mujeres en los ámbitos público, privado y mediático, y aunque hubo rechazo generalizado a esos comportamientos y cierta predisposición positiva a enfrentarlos, no predominó una postura activa a actuar contra ellos. En conclusiones, se reconoce el papel de la comunicación para la prevención de la violencia; se identificaron distintas vías, medios y actores y se aportaron disímiles propuestas.

Resumen Objetivo: Determinar desde la perspectiva de la calidad multidimensional cuáles son los factores que inciden en el consumo de la carne de conejo en el centro de México. Metodología: Se empleó una encuesta estructurada a 177 consumidores habituales de carne incluida la carne de conejo, para analizar los datos se realizó una base y, posteriormente, se dio un tratamiento multivariado mediante un análisis de factores por componente principales seguido de un análisis de conglomerados. Resultados: Los resultados muestran especial interés por dos dimensiones de calidad; la nutricional y sanitaria como principal motivo para valorar el consumo de la carne de conejo, mientras que la tradicionalidad en la elaboración de platillos no se observa. Limitaciones: Por haberse realizado durante la pandemia, no se pudo contar con un mayor número de consumidores. Conclusión: La percepción de calidad de la carne de conejo está influenciada positivamente por las dimensiones nutricionales, sanitarios y tecnológicos, mientras que las dimensiones de uso y tradicionalidad se perciben como limitantes ya que dicha carne no se ha posicionado en la cultura gastronómica mexicana.

Abstract Objective: To determine the multidimensional quality, as well as the reasons for the consumption of rabbit meat from the perspective of the consumer. Methodology: A structured survey was used to 177 decision-makers of family food consumption, to analyze the data a database was created and subsequently a multivariate treatment was given through a factor analysis by principal components followed by a cluster analysis. Results: The results show special interest in two dimensions of quality; the nutritional and health as the main reason to value the consumption of rabbit meat, while the traditionality in the preparation of dishes is not observed. Limitations: Because it was carried out during the pandemic, a greater number of consumers could not be counted on. Conclusion: The perception of quality of rabbit meat is positively influenced by the nutritional, sanitary and technological dimensions, while the dimensions of use and traditionality are perceived as limiting since said meat has not been positioned in the Mexican gastronomic culture.

Resumen La convergencia de la agricultura convencional, las inversiones inmobiliarias y la minería de extracción de arena y grava caracterizan a Calimaya como uno de los municipios del Altiplano mexicano más impactados negativamente por las actividades antrópicas. El objetivo de este trabajo fue analizar el contexto geográfico y ambiental de los procesos de cambio de uso y cobertura del suelo (CUCS) en este Municipio. Para ello, se estimaron los siguientes indicadores: la tasa de cambio de cobertura propuesta por la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Alimentación y la Agricultura utilizando las clases de cobertura del suelo propuestas por el Grupo Intergubernamental de Expertos sobre Cambio Climático. Los CUCS encontrados en la última década (2010-2019) fueron: deforestación y avance del cultivo de papa en el Área de Protección de Flora y Fauna Nevado de Toluca; disminución del proceso de ocupación de áreas de cultivo por parte de los asentamientos; y degradación del suelo en minas abandonadas.

Resumo A convergência da agricultura convencional, investimentos imobiliários e mineração de extração de areia e cascalho caracterizam Calimaya como um dos municípios do Altiplano mexicano mais impactados negativamente pelas atividades antrópicas. O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar o contexto geográfico e ambiental dos processos de mudança de uso e cobertura do solo (MUCS) neste Município. Para isso, foram estimados os seguintes indicadores: a taxa de mudança de cobertura proposta pela Organização das Nações Unidas para Agricultura e Alimentação utilizando as classes de cobertura do solo propostas pelo Painel Intergovernamental sobre Mudanças Climáticas. Os MUCS encontrados na última década (2010-2019) foram: desmatamento e avanço do cultivo de batata na Área de Proteção de Flora e Fauna Nevado de Toluca; diminuição do processo de ocupação das áreas cultivadas pelos assentamentos; e degradação do solo em minas abandonadas.

Abstract The convergence of conventional agriculture, real estate investments and sand and gravel mining characterize Calimaya as one of the most negatively impacted municipalities of the Mexican altiplano by anthropic activities. The objective of this work was to analyse the geographical and environmental context of land use and land cover change (LULCC) processes in this Municipality. For this, the following indicators were estimated: the cover change rate proposed by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations by using the land cover classes proposed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. LULCC in the last decade (2010-2019) were: deforestation and advancement of potato crop in the Nevado de Toluca Flora and Fauna Protection Area; decrease in the process of occupation of cropland areas by settlements; and, soil degradation in abandoned mines.

ABSTRACT The higher education system plays a relevant role in accomplishing the processes of territorial and local development. The University of Havana nationally coordinates the Bachelor in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) degree, and their graduates carry out essential work for their territories of origin. However, most of BMB graduates do not return to their provinces. It is important for the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology career to consider in the concept of sustainability not only the conceptual aspect of this science, but also the economic and social aspects, and the development of initiatives to encourage the commitment of students with their region. This work, from the analysis of the placement and professional development of BBM graduates in scientific institutions and higher education centers and individual interviews with students, was aimed to propose a strategy for motivating the graduates’commitment with their territories, and thus contribute to the local development in the fields of biomedicine and biotechnology in their territories.

RESUMEN La educación superior desempeña un papel relevante en la atención a los procesos de desarrollo territorial y local. La carrera de Licenciatura en Bioquímica y Biología Molecular (BBM) coordinada por la Universidad de La Habana, es una carrera nacional, y sus egresados cumplen una significativa labor en sus territorios de origen. Sin embargo, gran parte de ellos no regresa a sus provincias. Es importante para la carrera, considerar en el concepto de sostenibilidad, no solo el aspecto conceptual, sino también el económico-social y el desarrollo de iniciativas, para incentivar el compromiso de los estudiantes con su región. Este trabajo, a partir de entrevistas individuales a estudiantes, y del análisis de la ubicación y el desarrollo profesional de graduados de la carrera en instituciones científicas y Centros de Educación Superior, tuvo como objetivo proponer una estrategia que motive el compromiso de los egresados de mantenerse en su localidad, y así contribuir al desarrollo local en las esferas de la biomedicina y la biotecnología de sus territorios.

Abstract This systematic review aimed to assess the efficacy of motor adaptation during walking on a split-belt treadmill (SBT) under different learning conditions in adults with stroke. We searched randomized clinical trials and case studies that used SBT under different learning conditions published between January 2011 and April 2022 in four databases: Pubmed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Brain-URJC. The following data were extracted: objectives, interventions, population, number of sessions, outcome measures, and results. The methodological quality of quantitative studies was evaluated using the Critical Review Form. We identified 79 studies, from which six met the criteria for this systematic review (four randomized clinical trials and two case series). The six selected studies included 156 patients with chronic stroke; 62.8% men, age 21-85 years. Walking on a SBT can generate artifacts in the gait pattern depending on the experimental conditions. Two series of cases and one trial reported that the dual motor task - the inclination of the slope of the SBT or the gradual change of speed - promotes the retention of the artifacts generated by the disturbances, resulting in the learning of a new motor pattern. However, combining physical exercise of different intensity and at different times with SBT, maximizing or minimizing errors, or including variable or constant speed disturbances do not seem to affect the locomotor adaptation process.

Resumen El objetivo de esta revisión fue evaluar la eficacia de la adaptación motora durante la marcha sobre cintas de marcha con correa dividida (CMCD) con diferentes condiciones de aprendizaje en personas con ictus. Se realizó una búsqueda de ensayos clínicos aleatorizados y estudios de casos en cuatro bases de datos (Pubmed, Scopus, Web of Science, Brain-URJC), publicados desde enero de 2011 hasta abril de 2022, que utilizasen CMCD bajo diferentes condiciones de aprendizaje. Se extrajeron datos sobre el objetivo, la intervención, la población, el número de sesiones, las medidas de resultados y los resultados obtenidos. Se valoró la calidad metodologica para estudios cuantitativos con la Critical Review Form. De los 79 estudios identificados, se incluyeron seis en la revisión, cuatro ensayos clínicos aleatorizados y dos series de casos. Incluyeron 156 personas con ictus crónico, 62,8% hombres, entre los 21-85 años de edad. La locomoción sobre CMCD puede generar artefactos en el patrón de marcha, según la condición experimental utilizada. Dos series de casos y un ensayo observaron que la doble tarea motora, la inclinación de la pendiente de la CMCD o el cambio gradual de velocidad, fomentarían la retención de los artefactos generados por las perturbaciones, redundando en el aprendizaje de un nuevo patrón motor. Sin embargo, incluir ejercicio físico de diferente intensidad y en diferentes momentos en combinación con CMCD, maximizar o minimizar los errores, o incluir perturbaciones variables o constantes de la velocidad, parecen no mostrar un efecto sobre el proceso de adaptación locomotora.

Resumen La neumonía sigue siendo una de las principales causas de consulta y de hospitalización a la que, además de su un alto impacto en términos de morbilidad y mortalidad, se suma la actual problemática de resistencia a los antimicrobianos, por lo que establecer directrices que permitan su adecuado diagnóstico y tratamiento es de gran importancia para obtener mejores desenlaces clínicos y promover un uso racional de antibióticos en estos pacientes. La presente guía de práctica clínica (GPC) contiene recomendaciones basadas en la evidencia para el diagnóstico y tratamiento de la neumonía adquirida en la comunidad en adultos, las cuales fueron realizadas mediante el proceso de adaptación de GPC basadas en la evidencia para el contexto colombiano.

Abstract Pneumonia continues to be one of the main causes of consultation and hospitalization to which, besides its high impact on morbidity and mortality, the current problem of antimicrobial resistance is added; thus, establishing guidelines that allow its adequate diagnosis and treatment is of great importance to obtain better clinical outcomes and promote a rational use of antibiotics in these patients. This clinical practice guideline (CPG) contains evidence-based recommendations for the diagnosis and treatment of community-acquired pneumonia in adult population; these recommendations were made by means of the process of adaptation of evidence-based CPGs for the Colombian context.

Abstract Developing new varieties of anthurium (Anthurium andreanum L.) by hybridization can take 8-10 years; therefore, induced mutagenesis can be an alternative strategy to hybridization. The objective of this work was to induce mutations in anthurium by exposing explants obtained from vitroplants to colchicine. Explants of leaves, nodes and roots obtained from vitroplants were exposed to 0.1 % colchicine for 0, 2, 3 and 4 h. The mean lethal dose (LD50), survival, number of explants that generated callus, number of explants that formed shoots and the number of shoots per explant were evaluated. The karyotype of the presumed mutated regenerated plants was determined by the root apex squash technique. The leaves showed the highest sensitivity to cochicine. The survival of the root explants treated with colchicine was 100 %; 4 % of roots exposed for 2 and 3 h formed adventitious shoots (120 shoots). For nodes, the LD50 was found at 3.98 h; 76 and 56 % of the nodes cultivated for 2 and 3 h with colchicine formed adventitious shoots (4.4 and 3.6 shoots). The plants regenerated from the explants exposed to colchicine showed morphological changes. The chromosomal number of the regenerated vitroplants from the explants exposed for 2 and 3 h to colchicine was 2n = 29, while that of those obtained from the explants that remained on the colchicine for 4 h was 2n = 31. The sensitivity to colchicine was a function of the type of explant and the dose used. Colchicine caused the loss (monosomy) or gain of chromosomes (trisomy).

Resumen Desarrollar variedades nuevas de anturio (Anthurium andreanum L.) mediante hibridación puede llevar entre 8 y 10 años; por ello, la mutagénesis inducida puede ser una estrategia alterna a la hibridación. El objetivo de este trabajo fue inducir mutaciones en anturio mediante la exposición a colchicina de explantes obtenidos de vitroplantas. Explantes de hojas, nudos y raíces provenientes de vitroplantas se expusieron a 0.1 % de colchicina durante 0, 2, 3 y 4 h. Se evaluaron la dosis letal promedio (DL50), la supervivencia, el número de plantas que generaron callo, el número de plantas que formaron brotes y el número de brotes por explante. El cariotipo de las plantas regeneradas por presunta mutación se determinó mediante la técnica squash en ápice de raíz. Las hojas presentaron la mayor sensibilidad a la colchicina. La supervivencia de los explantes de raíz tratados con colchicina fue de 100 %, y 4 % de las raíces expuestas durante 2 y 3 h formaron brotes adventicios (120 brotes). En el caso de los nudos, la DL50 se encontró a 3.98 h; 76 y 56 % de los nudos cultivados con colchicina por 2 y 3 h, respectivamente, formaron brotes adventicios (4.4 y 3.6 brotes). Las plantas regeneradas a partir de explantes expuestos a colchicina mostraron cambios morfológicos. El número cromosómico de las vitroplantas regeneradas a partir de explantes expuestos a colchicina durante 2 y 3 h fue 2n = 29, mientras que el de aquellas obtenidas a partir de los explantes que permanecieron en colchicina por 4 h fue 2n = 31. La sensibilidad a la colchicina fue una función del tipo de explante y la dosis utilizada. La colchicina causó la pérdida (monosomía) o la ganancia de cromosomas (trisomía).

Resumen El uso, así como el efecto productivo y económico de compuestos herbales en producción cunícola ha sido poco estudiado, por tal motivo el objetivo fue evaluar el efecto de una mezcla poliherbal rica en conjugados de colina a base de Trachyspermum ammi, Achyranthes aspera, Azadirachta indica y Citrullus colocynthis, sobre la respuesta económica y productiva de conejos para carne. Para lo cual se utilizaron 40 conejos Nueva Zelanda X California (30 días de edad), los cuales fueron aleatorizados en cinco grupos (0.0, 200, 400, 600 y 800 mg kg-1 de MS poliherbal, BioCholina®), el experimento tuvo una duración de 34 días. Se evaluó la respuesta productiva, calidad de la carne e indicadores económicos. Se utilizó un diseño completamente al azar con un arreglo de polinomios ortogonales para determinar efectos lineales y cuadráticos, con un nivel de significancia de P<0.05. Los resultados en cuanto a los parámetros productivos fueron similares entre tratamientos, excepto consumo de alimento (P=0.006) y conversión alimenticia (P=0.005) con un efecto linealmente a mayor concentración del poliherbal. La inclusión del poliherbal incrementó pH en carne (lineal, P=0.004) y coordenada b* (lineal, P=0.009), se observó que el tratamiento con 200 mg presentó los mejores indicadores económicos mejorando en 9 unidades porcentuales la razón ingresos-egresos. Se concluye que la adición de mezclas poliherbales a base de conjugado de colina natural no mejoró las variables productivas, sin embargo, se marca una tendencia económica favorable con la adición de 200 mg kg-1 de MS.

Abstract The use, as well as the productive and economic effect of herbal compounds on rabbit production has been little studied, for this reason, the objective was to evaluate the effect of a polyherbal mixture rich in choline conjugates based on Trachyspermum ammi, Achyranthes aspera, Azadirachta indica and Citrullus colocynthis, on the economic and productive response of meat rabbits. For this, 40 New Zealand X California rabbits (30-d old) were used, which were randomized into five groups (0.0, 200, 400, 600 and 800 mg kg-1 of polyherbal DM, BioCholina®), the experiment lasted 34 days. The productive response, meat quality and economic indicators were evaluated. A completely randomized design with an arrangement of orthogonal polynomials was used to determine linear and quadratic effects, with a significance level of P<0.05. The results in terms of production parameters were similar between treatments, except for feed consumption (P=0.006) and feed conversion (P=0.005) with a linear effect at higher concentration of the polyherbal. The inclusion of the polyherbal increased pH in meat (linear, P=0.004) and coordinate b* (linear, P=0.009), it was observed that the treatment with 200 mg showed the best economic indicators, improving the income-expense ratio by 9 percentage units. It is concluded that the addition of polyherbal mixtures based on natural choline conjugate did not improve the productive variables, however, a favorable economic trend is marked with the addition of 200 mg kg-1 of DM.

ABSTRACT Purpose The aim of this study was to investigate the total weekly exposure to leisure noise among university students and to assess its association with self-reported symptoms of hypoacusis. Methods This is a cross-sectional survey. An online questionnaire based on the “Noise Exposure Questionnaire”, plus 11 questions regarding hearing loss were sent to 730 randomly selected students. Participants self-reported time spent on different leisure noise activities and their subjective evaluation of the loudness of these activities, converted into equivalent noise levels, were used to estimate weekly noise exposure levels that were compared to occupational noise limits (> 85 dBA = hazardous). Inference statistics was applied to relate hearing symptoms and “likely or having some degree of hearing loss” with hazardous weekly leisure noise exposure levels. Results Ninety-three percent of the participants reported at least one hypoacusis symptom. The most frequent sound-related ear symptom was tinnitus (72%). Fifty-five percent of the individuals presented weekly exposure to noise >85 dBA. Symptoms of hearing loss were more prevalent in those exposed to weekly noise levels >85 dBA. Conclusion This study suggests that there may be hearing loss caused by exposure to high levels of leisure noise in a large part of the study population. Health promotion of hearing conservation should be emphasized at university level. Objective repeated measurement of hearing acuity should be part of integral health services for the youth population.

RESUMEN Objetivo Investigar la participación de estudiantes universitarios en actividades de ocio productoras de ruido y la relación entre los niveles de exposición semanal al ruido recreativo y síntomas de hipoacusia auto reportados, en la ciudad de Barranquilla, Colombia. Método Se realizó un estudio transversal mediante encuesta virtual, basada en el Cuestionario de Exposición al Ruido, más 11 preguntas de síntomas auditivos, a una muestra aleatoria de 730 sujetos. El nivel de exposición semanal al ruido recreativo se estimó a partir del tiempo dedicado al total de actividades recreativas reportadas por los participantes y su evaluación subjetiva de la intensidad de ruido producida por cada actividad, transformada en niveles de ruido continuo equivalente. La asociación entre la exposición al ruido recreativo y la presencia de síntomas de hipoacusia se analizó mediante la prueba de Chi-cuadrado. Resultados El 93% de los participantes manifestó al menos un síntoma de hipoacusia y la mitad reportó cuatro o más. El síntoma más frecuente de hipoacusia asociada al ruido fue el tinnitus (72%). El 55% tenía una exposición semanal de ruido por encima de 85 dBA y en éstos la prevalencia de síntomas de hipoacusia fue mayor (p < 0.05). Conclusión Se sugiere la presencia de deterioro auditivo en gran parte la población universitaria, asociado con altas dosis de exposición semanal al ruido recreativo. Es necesario fortalecer los programas de promoción de la salud auditiva en la academia, y desde los servicios de salud, la valoración objetiva y periódica de la audición.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the productive performance, apparent digestibility, and carcass and longissimus dorsi muscle characteristics of lambs fed diets supplemented with four levels of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Thirty-two male Hampshire lambs (25.82±1.95 kg body weight) were distributed in four treatments: basal diet (20:80, forage:concentrate), and the inclusion of 0, 3, 5, and 10 g animal−1 d−1Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The variables evaluated were dry matter intake, daily weight gain, feed conversion, apparent digestibility, dorsal fat thickness, longissimus dorsi muscle area, and physicochemical characteristics of carcass and muscle. We used a completely randomized design and orthogonal polynomials to test the linear and quadratic effects of the inclusion levels of the yeast. Saccharomyces cerevisiae showed a quadratic effect on lamb performance. Dry matter intake decreased with yeast in response to a better feed conversion and body weight gain; however, at the highest Saccharomyces cerevisiae dose, daily weight gain and final weight were lower than with the basal diet treatment. Saccharomyces cerevisiae did not affect apparent digestibility or carcass and muscle physicochemical characteristics. Supplementation with 3 and 5 g d−1 Saccharomyces cerevisiae improves productive performance of lambs fed high concentrate diets without affecting the physicochemical characteristics of the carcass or muscle.

ABSTRACT An inflammatory myofibroblastic tumour is a rare submucosal stromal tumour whose most common presentation is in the lung. This is a heterogeneous tumour, comprised of spindle cells, inflammatory cells and myofibroblasts, which is generally benign. However, it can cause local invasion, recurrence and malignant transformation. We report a young patient with an invasive and infiltrating tumour on the tongue that turned out to be a myofibroblastic tumour but caused major concern due to its rapid growth.

RESUMEN El tumor miofibroblástico inflamatorio (TMI) es un tumor del estroma submucoso raro cuya presentación más frecuente es en el pulmón. Se trata de un tumor heterogéneo, formado por células fusiformes, inflamatorias y miofibroblastos, que por lo general es benigno, pero puede producir invasión local, recidiva y transformación maligna. Presentamos un paciente joven con una neoplasia en la lengua de aspecto invasivo e infiltrante que resultó ser un tumor miofibroblástico, pero que causó gran preocupación por su rápido crecimiento.

ABSTRACT Background: The SARS‑CoV‑2 infection has had a major impact on kidney transplant patients. Our single‑center experience aims to analyze the risk factors for affected patient hospitalization and predictors of worse clinical outcome on admission. Material and methods: A retrospective cohort study with kidney transplant patients with positive PCR for SARS‑CoV‑19 between March 16th 2020 and February 11th 2021 was conducted. Demographic characteristics and clinical and laboratory information on admission was collected and analyzed to assess risk factors related to patient hospitalization and disease evolution. Results: Seventy‑six kidney transplant recipients diagnosed with COVID‑19 were included and divided into hospitalized (n=48) and non‑hospitalized (n=28) patients. Two hospitalized patients were not taken into account for the analysis due to a lack of data, and the remaining patients were divided into mild‑moderate (n=25) and severe pneumonia (n=21). Lasso and multivariate logistic regression demonstrated that age (OR 1.041, p=0.039) and hypertension (OR 4.177, p=0.040) were risk factors for hospitalization, while time after transplant (OR 0.993, p=0.029) decreases the probability of being hospitalized. Analyses also revealed that SpO2 ≤92% on admission (OR 8.954, p= 0.026) and overweight/obesity (OR 13.453, p= 0.001) were related to a worse evolution and severe pneumonia among hospitalized recipients. Seven patients died due to COVID‑19 complications. Conclusion: Age and hypertension are risk factors for hospitalization among positive COVID‑19 patients, while time after transplant decreases the probability of being hospitalized. Overweight/obesity and levels of SpO2 ≤92% on admission were the main risk factors that could help to predict the severity of COVID‑19 disease in our series.
