ABSTRACT Introduction: All the clinical manifestations of COVID-19 are still not clear to date, since the reported symptoms vary from mild to severe, asymptomatic, in many cases with a wide variety. Objective: Describe the clinical and epidemiological behavior of patients hospitalized for COVID-19 in a Contingency Hospital for COVID-19 in Paraguay during 2020. Methodology: Observational, descriptive cross-sectional study. All the patients of both sexes, of all ages, with COVID-19 confirmed by nasopharyngeal swab from March 30 to August 15, 2020, who were admitted to the Hospital, were included in the study. Results: 99 hospitalized patients entered the study, of which 34.34% (34) were 60 years of age or older, 59.59% (59) were male, 46.46% (46) had some positive contact, in 16.16% (16) the contagion was hospital, and 20.20% (20) came from outside the country. 87.87% (87) referred to fever, 81.81% (81) dyspnea, and 76.76% (76) myalgia and 22.22% (22) died. Conclusion: Most of the internees were 60 years old or older, they were male, and the most frequent signs and symptoms were fever, cough, and fatigue. Half of the hospitalized patients presented complications and the mortality recorded in this study was 22.22%, which corresponded to all the patients admitted to this hospital
RESUMEN Introducción: La totalidad de las manifestaciones clínicas del COVID-19 aún no están claras hasta la fecha, ya que los síntomas reportados varían de leves a graves, asintomáticos, en muchos casos con una amplia variedad. Objetivo: Describir el comportamiento clínico y epidemiológico de pacientes internados por COVID-19 en un Hospital de Contingencia para COVID-19 de Paraguay durante el 2020 Metodología: Estudio observacional, descriptivo de corte transversal. Fueron incluidos en el estudio la totalidad de los pacientes de ambos sexos, de todas las edades, con COVID-19 confirmados mediante hisopado nasofaríngeo desde el 30 de marzo al 15 de agosto del 2020, que se encontraban internados en el Hospital. Resultados: Ingresaron al estudio 99 pacientes internados, de los cuales 34,34% (34) tuvo una edad igual o mayor a 60 años de edad, 59,59% (59) fueron del sexo masculino, 46,46% (46) tuvo algún contacto positivo, en el 16,16% (16) el contagio fue hospitalario, y el 20,20% (20) procedían del exterior del país. El 87,87% (87) refirió fiebre, el 81,81% (81) disnea, y el 76,76% (76) mialgia y el 22,22% (22) fallecieron. Conclusión: La mayoría de los internados tuvieron una edad igual o superior a 60 años, fueron del sexo masculino y los signos y síntomas más frecuentes fueron la fiebre, tos y fatiga. La mitad de los pacientes internados presentaron complicaciones y la mortalidad registrada en este estudio fue de 22,22%, lo cual correspondió a la totalidad de paciente internados en este hospital
