Resumen Introducción: Las personas con diálisis de mantenimiento se consideran una población en alto riesgo de infección por SARS-CoV-2, complicaciones y muerte. La periodicidad de la diálisis, la organización y la demanda en las unidades de diálisis y las limitaciones de alfabetización en salud poblacional limitan el cumplimiento del aislamiento y el distanciamiento social. Objetivo: Desarrollar, mediante un consenso de expertos, recomendaciones informadas en evidencia para la prevención, el diagnóstico y el manejo de la infección por SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 en pacientes con enfermedad renal crónica. Materiales y métodos: Se realizó una revisión rápida de literatura en Pubmed, Embase y sociedades científicas. La calidad de evidencia fue evaluada según el tipo de estudio incluido. El acuerdo se definió para cada recomendación con umbral de al menos 70% de aprobación. La fuerza de las recomendaciones fue graduada como fuerte o débil. Resultados: El colectivo fue consultado entre el 17 y 19 de mayo de 2020. Se obtuvo respuesta de 44 expertos clínicos que declararon conflicto de interés previo a la consulta. El acuerdo de las recomendaciones estuvo entre 70,5 y 100%. Se presentan las recomendaciones de un colectivo experto para la prevención, el diagnóstico y el manejo de infección por SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 en pacientes con enfermedad renal crónica. Conclusión: Debido a la reciente aparición de la infección por SARS-CoV-2 y las incertidumbres respecto a la prevención, el diagnóstico y el manejo, las recomendaciones presentadas se conciben como un estándar colombiano que permita garantizar un cuidado centrado en las personas con enfermedad renal crónica y la protección de los profesionales de la salud.
Abstract Introduction: People with chronic dialysis are considered a population at high risk of SARS CoV2 infection and its derived complications and death. The need to go to strict dialysis schedules, the high demand in the kidney facilities and the difficulties derived from the time and space organization in the rooms in the face to the pandemic added to the difficult learning, teaching and adapting new protocols manifest the needed of standard recommendation according to this problem in people who couldn't have an ideal isolation. Objective: Develop through an expert consensus, evidence-informed recommendations for the prevention, diagnosis, and management of SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 infection in patients with chronic kidney disease on Dialysis. Materials and methods: We carried out a quick literature review, PubMed, Embase and scientific societies were consulted. The quality of the evidence was considered according to the type of study included. The agreement threshold defined for each recommendation was > 70% approval among experts. The strength of the recommendations was rated as strong or weak. Results: Between May 17 and 19, 2020, was conformed a team of 44 clinical experts who declared their interest conflict prior to the consultation. The agreement of the recommendations was between 70.5% and 100%. The recommendations were separated in prevention, early identification, and diagnostic, isolation in hemodialysis facilities and peritoneal dialysis, and team protection. Ethical considerations also were included. Conclusion: Due to the recent appearance of SARS-CoV-2 infection and the uncertainties regarding prevention, diagnosis and management, the recommendations presented are conceived as a Colombian standard that allows guaranteeing focused care for people with chronic kidney disease and the protection of health team.

Abstract Introduction: Acute kidney injury is a frequent complication in patients with COVID-19 and its occurrence is a potential indicator of multi-organ dysfunction and disease severity. Objective: Develop, through an expert consensus, evidence-based recommendations for the prevention, diagnosis, and management of acute kidney injury in patients with SARS CoV2 / COVID-19 infection. Materials and methods: Based on a rapid systematic review in Embase and Pubmed databases and documents from scientific societies, we made preliminary recommendations and consulted with an expert group through an online tool. Then we defined agreement after at least 70 % consensus approval. Quality evidence was evaluated according to the type of document included. The strength of the recommendations was graded as strong or weak. Results: Fifty clinical experts declared their conflict of interest; the consultation took place between May 2 and 29, 2020. The range of agreement ranged from 75.5 % to 100 %. Recommendations for prevention, diagnosis and management of acute kidney injury in patients with SARS CoV2 infection are presented. Conclusions: Although the good quality information available regarding acute kidney injury in patients with COVID-19 is scarce, the recommendations of clinical experts will guide clinical decision-making and strategies around patients with this complication, guaranteeing care focused on the people, with high quality standards, and the generation of safety, health and wellness policies for multidisciplinary care teams.

Abstract Introduction: The numbers of SARS-CoV-2 infection in the pediatric population are low so far. There is limited information about the behavior of SARS-CoV-2 in a pediatric patient with chronic kidney disease. Objective: To formulate informed recommendations to the prevention, diagnosis, and management of SARS-CoV-2 infection in pediatric patients with kidney disease or acute kidney injury associated with COVID-19 in Colombia. Methodology: A rapid systematic review was performed in Embase and Pubmed databases and scientific societies, to answer questions prioritized by clinical experts in pediatric nephrology. The quality of the evidence was evaluated with validated tools according to the type of study. The preliminary recommendations were consulted by an expert group. The agreement was defined when approval was obtained from at least 70% of the experts consulted. Results: A response was obtained from ' 9 experts in pediatric nephrology in Colombia, who declared the conflict of interest before the consultation. The range of agreement for the recommendations ranged from 78.9% to '00%. The recommendations did not require a second consultation. Conclusion: The evidence-based recommendations for the management of a patient with kidney disease and COVID-19 in the Colombian context are presented.

Solubility and availability of micronutrients extracted from silicate agrominerals

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the solubility of the micronutrients copper, nickel, and zinc, chemically extracted from silicate agrominerals, as alternative sources of potassium for lettuce (Lactuca sativa) and rice (Oryza sativa) cultures, as well as their availability to the plants. The micronutrient contents of five agrominerals (alkaline ultramafic, biotite schist, volcanic breccia, phlogopite schist, and mining by-product from Chapada) were evaluated, after being extracted by the citric acid, hydrochloric acid, diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid, 3051A, neutral ammonium citrate, and Mehlich-3 methods. The agrominerals, at the doses of 0 (control), 200, 400, and 600 kg ha-1 K, were mixed to soil where lettuce and rice were cultivated. The agrominerals presented a low solubility of Ni, Cu, and Zn, with lower contents in lettuce shoots and rice grains than the corresponding soluble standards in sulfate form. The availability of micronutrients to the plants increased with the use of agrominerals, in comparison with the control. Similarities were observed in micronutrient solubility and availability between the different groups of agrominerals. The solubility and availability of Cu, Ni, and Zn depend on the solubility of the minerals that compose the agrominerals.
Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a solubilidade dos micronutrientes cobre, níquel e zinco, extraídos quimicamente de agrominerais silicáticos, como fonte alternativa de potássio para as culturas de alface (Lactuca sativa) e arroz (Oryza sativa), bem como sua disponibilidade para as plantas. Avaliaram-se os teores de micronutrientes de cinco agrominerais (ultramáfica alcalina, biotita xisto, brecha vulcânica, flogopita xisto e subproduto de mineração de Chapada), após extração pelos métodos ácido cítrico, ácido clorídrico, ácido dietilenotriamino penta-acético, 3051A, citrato neutro de amônio e Mehlich 3. Os agrominerais, nas doses de 0 (controle), 200, 400 e 600 kg ha-1 de K, foram misturados em solo com cultivo de alface e arroz. Os agrominerais apresentaram baixa solubilidade de Ni, Cu e Zn, com menores teores em folhas de alface e grãos de arroz que o padrão solúvel correspondente na forma de sulfato. A disponibilidade de micronutrientes para as plantas aumentou com uso dos agrominerais, em comparação ao controle. Foram observadas similaridades na solubilidade e na disponibilidade de micronutrientes entre os diferentes grupos de agrominerais. A solubilidade e a disponibilidade de Cu, Ni e Zn dependem da solubilidade dos minerais que compõem os agrominerais.

ABSTRACT The rational use of N fertilization is essential to increase the recovery efficiency and crop productivity and decrease the cost of production. The objective of this study was to assess forage yield (TDM), tillers population density (TPD) and N use efficiency (NUE) in six Paspalum notatum Flüggé genotypes in response to N fertilization. The experimental design involved randomized blocks on a subdivided plot design. In 2014-2015 the TDM was higher for the C22 and B26 hybrids (P < 0.0001), which were similar to each other, with an average of 6173 kg DM ha-1 yr-1. In 2015-2016 the TDM of the genotypes ranging from 7053 to 13773 kg DM ha-1 yr-1, for pastures fertilized with 0 and 480 kg N ha-1 yr-1, respectively. An interaction was found between Genotype × N fertilization level (P = 0.0155) for TDM in 2016-2017. In the years 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 the C22 hybrid standed out as the genotype with the highest tiller production in response to N fertilization. In the year 2014-2015 NUE was higher (P = 0.0015) in the N fertilization levels N60, being of 15.5 kg DM kg-1 N. In the years 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 the NUE was higher at fertilization level N120 (P < 0.05), being of 21.1 and 31.5 kg DM kg-1 N, respectively. The C22 hybrid was distinct as the genotype with the highest DM yield and superior tillering characteristics. The N fertilization level of 120 kg N ha-1 yr-1 promoted greater NUE in all P. notatum genotypes

ABSTRACT Objective: Respiratory infections constitute a major cause of morbidity and mortality in solid organ transplant recipients. The incidence of pulmonary tuberculosis is high among such patients. On imaging, tuberculosis has various presentations. Greater understanding of those presentations could reduce the impact of the disease by facilitating early diagnosis. Therefore, we attempted to describe the HRCT patterns of pulmonary tuberculosis in lung transplant recipients. Methods: From two hospitals in southern Brazil, we collected the following data on lung transplant recipients who developed pulmonary tuberculosis: gender; age; symptoms; the lung disease that led to transplantation; HRCT pattern; distribution of findings; time from transplantation to pulmonary tuberculosis; and mortality rate. The HRCT findings were classified as miliary nodules; cavitation and centrilobular nodules with a tree-in-bud pattern; ground-glass attenuation with consolidation; mediastinal lymph node enlargement; or pleural effusion. Results: We evaluated 402 lung transplant recipients, 19 of whom developed pulmonary tuberculosis after transplantation. Among those 19 patients, the most common HRCT patterns were ground-glass attenuation with consolidation (in 42%); cavitation and centrilobular nodules with a tree-in-bud pattern (in 31.5%); and mediastinal lymph node enlargement (in 15.7%). Among the patients with cavitation and centrilobular nodules with a tree-in-bud pattern, the distribution was within the upper lobes in 66.6%. No pleural effusion was observed. Despite treatment, one-year mortality was 47.3%. Conclusions: The predominant HRCT pattern was ground-glass attenuation with consolidation, followed by cavitation and centrilobular nodules with a tree-in-bud pattern. These findings are similar to those reported for immunocompetent patients with pulmonary tuberculosis and considerably different from those reported for AIDS patients with the same disease.
RESUMO Objetivo: As infecções respiratórias constituem a principal causa de morbidade e mortalidade em transplantados de órgãos sólidos. A incidência de tuberculose pulmonar é alta entre esses pacientes. Em exames de imagem, a tuberculose tem diferentes apresentações. Uma maior compreensão dessas apresentações poderia reduzir o impacto da doença ao facilitar o diagnóstico precoce. Portanto, buscamos descrever os padrões de tuberculose pulmonar na TCAR em transplantados de pulmão. Métodos: De dois hospitais no sul do Brasil, foram coletados os seguintes dados sobre transplantados de pulmão que desenvolveram tuberculose pulmonar: sexo; idade; sintomas; doença pulmonar que levou ao transplante; padrão na TCAR; distribuição dos achados; tempo entre transplante e tuberculose pulmonar; e taxa de mortalidade. Os achados na TCAR foram classificados como nódulos miliares; cavitação e nódulos centrolobulares com padrão de árvore em brotamento; atenuação em vidro fosco com consolidação; linfonodomegalia mediastinal; ou derrame pleural. Resultados: Foram avaliados 402 transplantados de pulmão, dos quais 19 desenvolveram tuberculose pulmonar após o transplante. Entre esses 19 pacientes, os padrões mais comuns na TCAR foram atenuação em vidro fosco com consolidação (em 42%); cavitação e nódulos centrolobulares com padrão de árvore em brotamento (em 31,5%); e linfonodomegalia mediastinal (em 15,7%). Entre os pacientes com cavitação e nódulos centrolobulares com padrão de árvore em brotamento, esses achados se distribuíam nos lobos superiores em 66,6%. Não se observou derrame pleural. Apesar do tratamento, a mortalidade em um ano foi de 47,3%. Conclusões: O padrão predominante na TCAR foi atenuação em vidro fosco com consolidação, seguido por cavitação e nódulos centrolobulares com padrão de árvore em brotamento. Esses achados são semelhantes aos relatados para pacientes imunocompetentes com tuberculose pulmonar e consideravelmente diferentes dos relatados para portadores de AIDS com a mesma doença.

Ammonia volatilization from enhanced-efficiency urea on no-till maize in brazilian cerrado with improved soil fertility

ABSTRACT High nitrogen losses by ammonia volatilization are expected when urea is used as the source of N. The use of controlled-release urea and urease inhibitors are possible strategies to reduce such losses and increase nitrogen use efficiency. This study aimed to evaluate nitrogen losses by ammonia volatilization from stabilized, slow and controlled release urea and its absorption by maize grown under no-till in an improved Cerrado soil. Four N sources were used: conventional urea, urea + N-(n-butyl) thiophosphoric triamide (NBPT), urea + Cu and B and urea coated by sulfur + polymers. These N sources were surface applied along the rows using three N doses of 100, 150 and 200 kg ha-1. No N was added to the control. Data were collected regarding N losses by volatilization, the N contents accumulated in the stubble and grains, and the yields of the stubble and grains. Stabilized urea and slow release urea were efficient for postponing the ammonia volatilization peaks. The urease inhibitors postponed the peaks for up to two days, reducing the accumulated volatilization by 18% when compared with common urea. Polymer sulfur coated urea resulted in a 37% reduction in ammonia volatilization. Increasing the N application rate to 200 kg ha-1 resulted in 16% greater yields and 37% greater N accumulation in the plants relative to the control. However, the stabilized and slow-release urea did not improve the N accumulation or yield. Consequently, the nitrogen use efficiency of maize was not improved relative to the use of conventional urea.
RESUMO A aplicação de ureia, frequentemente, gera grandes perdas de N por volatilização e o uso de revestimentos e inibidores de urease, podem reduzir essas perdas. Neste estudo, objetivou-se avaliar as perdas de nitrogênio pela ureia estabilizada e de liberação lenta ou controlada e sua absorção pelo milho cultivado em plantio direto, em solo de Cerrado, com fertilidade construída. Quatro fontes de N foram utilizadas: ureia convencional, ureia + N-(n-butyl)thiophosphoric triamide (NBPT), ureia + Cu + B e ureia revestida por enxofre e polímeros. Essas fontes de N foram aplicadas em superfície nas doses de 100, 150 e 200 kg ha-1. Não houve aplicação de N no controle. Avaliaram-se as perdas de N por volatilização, o acúmulo de N nos grãos e palhada e produção de grãos e de palhada. A ureia estabilizada e de liberação controlada foi eficiente em atrasar os picos de volatilização de amônia. Os inibidores de urease atrasaram os picos de volatilização em até dois dias, reduzindo a volatilização acumulada em até 18%, quando comparado à ureia comum. A ureia revestida por enxofre e polímeros resultou em uma redução de 37% na volatilização de amônia. O aumento da dose de N até 200 kg ha-1 resultou em aumento de 16% na produtividade e 37% no acúmulo de N em relação ao controle. Entretanto, a ureia estabilizada e de liberação controlada não aumentou o acúmulo de N ou a produtividade. Consequentemente, a eficiência no uso de N pelo milho não foi aumentada em relação ao use da ureia convencional.

ABSTRACT Ammonia volatilization (N-NH3) is one of the main pathways of Nitrogen loss reducing nitrogen use efficiency in coffee orchard. This work aimed at quantifying ammonia volatilization (N-NH3) losses from N-sources to be used in coffee plantations fertilization in Brazil. The experiment was conducted in the field on a dystrophic red latosol (Ferralsol in FAO's classification) at the Coffee Research Sector, University of Lavras, MG, Brazil. The experimental design was of complete randomized blocks with three repetitions of the following treatments: conventional urea, ammonium nitrate and urea + 0.15% Cu and 0.4% B, urea + anionic polymers, urea + elementary sulfur (S0) + polymers, and urea + plastic resin. These N sources were split into three doses of 150 kg ha-1 and band applied. The N-NH3 losses by volatilization and variations of pH (H2O) were measured, before and after N application. The N-sources contributed to reduce the soil pH, measured after the third nitrogen fertilization. The N-NH3 losses by volatilization (average from three applications) was as follows: urea + anionic polymers (35.8%) > conventional urea (31.2%) = urea + S0 + polymers (31.0%) > urea + 0.15% Cu + 0.4 % B (25.6%) > urea + plastic resin (8.6%) = ammonium nitrate (1.0%).
RESUMO A volatilização de amônia é uma das principais causas da redução da eficiência no uso de fertilizantes nitrogenados em lavouras cafeeiras. Neste trabalho, objetivou-se quantificar as perdas de nitrogênio por volatilização de fertilizantes nitrogenados aplicados em lavoura cafeeira. O experimento foi realizado em condições de campo, em um Latossolo Vermelho distrófico, cultivado com café, localizado no Setor de Cafeicultura/Departamento de Agricultura/UFLA, Lavras - MG. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados e os tratamentos foram: ureia; nitrato de amônio; ureia + 0,15% de Cu + 0,4% de B; ureia + polímeros; ureia + enxofre elementar (S0) + polímeros e; ureia + resina plástica; distribuídos em três parcelamentos com doses iguais de 150 kg ha-1. Foram quantificadas as perdas de nitrogênio por volatilização (N-NH3) e as variações no pH em água, da camada de 0-5 cm de solo, antes e depois dos parcelamentos das adubações nitrogenadas. Os fertilizantes nitrogenados reduziram os valores do pH do solo após as três adubações de manutenção. A perda de nitrogênio por volatilização dos fertilizantes nitrogenados (média das três adubações) foi: ureia + polímeros (35,8% do total do N aplicado) > ureia (31,2%) = ureia + S0 + polímeros (31,0%) > ureia + Cu + B (25,6%) > ureia + resina plástica (8,6%) = nitrato de amônio (1,0%).

Abstract An updated inventory of Brazilian seed plants is presented and offers important insights into the country's biodiversity. This work started in 2010, with the publication of the Plants and Fungi Catalogue, and has been updated since by more than 430 specialists working online. Brazil is home to 32,086 native Angiosperms and 23 native Gymnosperms, showing an increase of 3% in its species richness in relation to 2010. The Amazon Rainforest is the richest Brazilian biome for Gymnosperms, while the Atlantic Rainforest is the richest one for Angiosperms. There was a considerable increment in the number of species and endemism rates for biomes, except for the Amazon that showed a decrease of 2.5% of recorded endemics. However, well over half of Brazillian seed plant species (57.4%) is endemic to this territory. The proportion of life-forms varies among different biomes: trees are more expressive in the Amazon and Atlantic Rainforest biomes while herbs predominate in the Pampa, and lianas are more expressive in the Amazon, Atlantic Rainforest, and Pantanal. This compilation serves not only to quantify Brazilian biodiversity, but also to highlight areas where there information is lacking and to provide a framework for the challenge faced in conserving Brazil's unique and diverse flora.
Resumo Um levantamento atualizado das plantas com sementes e análises relevantes acerca desta biodiversidade são apresentados. Este trabalho se iniciou em 2010 com a publicação do Catálogo de Plantas e Fungos e, desde então vem sendo atualizado por mais de 430 especialistas trabalhando online. O Brasil abriga atualmente 32.086 espécies nativas de Angiospermas e 23 espécies nativas de Gimnospermas e estes novos dados mostram um aumento de 3% da riqueza em relação a 2010. A Amazônia é o Domínio Fitogeográfico com o maior número de espécies de Gimnospermas, enquanto que a Floresta Atlântica possui a maior riqueza de Angiospermas. Houve um crescimento considerável no número de espécies e nas taxas de endemismo para a maioria dos Domínios (Caatinga, Cerrado, Floresta Atlântica, Pampa e Pantanal), com exceção da Amazônia que apresentou uma diminuição de 2,5% de endemicidade. Entretanto, a maior parte das plantas com sementes que ocorrem no Brasil (57,4%) é endêmica deste território. A proporção de formas de vida varia de acordo com os diferentes Domínios: árvores são mais expressivas na Amazônia e Floresta Atlântica do que nos outros biomas, ervas são dominantes no Pampa e as lianas apresentam riqueza expressiva na Amazônia, Floresta Atlântica e Pantanal. Este trabalho não só quantifica a biodiversidade brasileira, mas também indica as lacunas de conhecimento e o desafio a ser enfrentado para a conservação desta flora.

Improved relationship between left and right ventricular electrical activation after cardiac resynchronization therapy in heart failure patients can be quantified by body surface potential mapping

OBJECTIVES: Few studies have evaluated cardiac electrical activation dynamics after cardiac resynchronization therapy. Although this procedure reduces morbidity and mortality in heart failure patients, many approaches attempting to identify the responders have shown that 30% of patients do not attain clinical or functional improvement. This study sought to quantify and characterize the effect of resynchronization therapy on the ventricular electrical activation of patients using body surface potential mapping, a noninvasive tool. METHODS: This retrospective study included 91 resynchronization patients with a mean age of 61 years, left ventricle ejection fraction of 28%, mean QRS duration of 182 ms, and functional class III/IV (78%/22%); the patients underwent 87-lead body surface mapping with the resynchronization device on and off. Thirty-six patients were excluded. Body surface isochronal maps produced 87 maximal/mean global ventricular activation times with three regions identified. The regional activation times for right and left ventricles and their inter-regional right-to-left ventricle gradients were calculated from these results and analyzed. The Mann-Whitney U-test and Kruskall-Wallis test were used for comparisons, with the level of significance set at p≤0.05. RESULTS: During intrinsic rhythms, regional ventricular activation times were significantly different (54.5 ms vs. 95.9 ms in the right and left ventricle regions, respectively). Regarding cardiac resynchronization, the maximal global value was significantly reduced (138 ms to 131 ms), and a downward variation of 19.4% in regional-left and an upward variation of 44.8% in regional-right ventricular activation times resulted in a significantly reduced inter-regional gradient (43.8 ms to 17 ms). CONCLUSIONS: Body surface potential mapping in resynchronization patients yielded electrical ventricular activation times for two cardiac regions with significantly decreased global and regional-left values but significantly increased regional-right values, thus showing an attenuated inter-regional gradient after the cardiac resynchronization therapy.

Agronomic efficiency of potassium fertilization in lettuce fertilized with alternative nutrient sources

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of alternative sources of nutrients on the nutrition, yield and efficiency of potassium fertilization in lettuce. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse, using 3.7 kg pots filled with a dystrophic red-yellow Latosol of medium texture. The experimental design was randomized, with treatments divided into a 4 x 6 factorial: four doses of potassium (0; 200; 400; 600 kg ha-1 K2O) and six alternative sources of nutrients (breccia, ultramafic, biotite schist, phlogopite, and mining and Chapada by-products), with four replications. Content and accumulation were determined for potassium (K), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn) and nickel (Ni) in the lettuce shoots, and from these data two indices were calculated for the efficiency of potassium as a fertilizer. The application of increasing values of alternative sources of nutrients promoted improvements in nutrition and increases in lettuce yield. The efficiency of potassium fertilization decreased with the increase in values of potassium taken from alternative nutrient sources, with the mining by-products and the ultramafic being superior to the other sources. Crushed silicate rocks and mining by-products can therefore both be used as fertilizer in organic and conventional production systems.
O objetivo desse estudo foi avaliar o efeito da aplicação de fontes alternativas de nutrientes na nutrição, produção e eficiência da adubação potássica na alface. O experimento foi conduzido em casa de vegetação, em vasos com 3,7 kg preenchidos com um Latossolo Vermelho Amarelo distrófico de textura média. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado e os tratamentos foram distribuídos em arranjo fatorial 4 x 6, sendo quatro doses de potássio (0; 200; 400; 600 kg ha-1 de K2O) e seis fontes alternativas de nutrientes (brecha, ultramáfica, biotita xisto, flogopitito, subproduto de mineração e subproduto de chapada), com quatro repetições. Foram determinados o teor e o acúmulo de potássio (K), cobre (Cu), zinco (Zn) e níquel (Ni) na parte aérea da alface e com esses dados foram calculados dois índices de eficiência da adubação potássica. As aplicações de doses crescentes das fontes alternativas de nutrientes promoveram melhorias na nutrição e aumentos na produção da alface. A eficiência da adubação potássica diminuiu com o aumento nas doses de potássio aplicadas pelas fontes alternativas de nutrientes, sendo que o subproduto de mineração e a ultramáfica foram superiores às demais fontes. Diante disso, pode-se afirmar que as rochas silicáticas moídas e os subprodutos de mineração constituem uma opção para adubação em sistemas de produção orgânica e convencional.

The expansion of Brazilian agriculture has led to a heavy dependence on imported fertilizers to ensure the supply of the growing food demand. This fact has contributed to a growing interest in alternative nutrient sources, such as ground silicate rocks. It is necessary, however, to know the potential of nutrient release and changes these materials can cause in soils. The purpose of this study was to characterize six silicate rocks and evaluate their effects on the chemical properties of treated soil, assessed by chemical extractants after greenhouse incubation. The experimental design consisted of completely randomized plots, in a 3 x 6 factorial scheme, with four replications. The factors were potassium levels (0-control: without silicate rock application; 200; 400; 600 kg ha-1 of K2O), supplied as six silicate rock types (breccia, biotite schist, ultramafic rock, phlogopite schist and two types of mining waste). The chemical, physical and mineralogical properties of the alternative rock fertilizers were characterized. Treatments were applied to a dystrophic Red-Yellow Oxisol (Ferralsol), which was incubated for 100 days, at 70 % (w/w) moisture in 3.7 kg/pots. The soil was evaluated for pH; calcium and magnesium were extracted with KCl 1 mol L-1; potassium, phosphorus and sodium by Mehlich 1; nickel, copper and zinc with DTPA; and the saturation of the cation exchange capacity was calculated for aluminum, calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sodium, and overall base saturation. The alternative fertilizers affected soil chemical properties. Ultramafic rock and Chapada mining byproduct (CMB) were the silicate rocks that most influenced soil pH, while the mining byproduct (MB) led to high K levels. Zinc availability was highest in the treatments with mining byproduct and Cu in soil fertilized with Chapada and mining byproduct.
O crescimento da agricultura brasileira tem gerado aumento da importação de fertilizantes para atender à demanda por alimentos, aumentando os preços no mercado interno. Esse fato tem contribuído para aumento no interesse de utilização de fontes alternativas de nutrientes, como as rochas moídas e alguns subprodutos de agroindústria e mineração que podem se tornar um passivo ambiental. Contudo, faz-se necessário conhecer o potencial de liberação dos nutrientes, bem como as alterações no solo causadas por esses materiais. Este trabalho teve como objetivo caracterizar seis rochas silicáticas e avaliar os efeitos desses materiais nos atributos químicos do solo por meio de extratores químicos, em incubação realizada em casa de vegetação. O experimento foi conduzido no Departamento de Ciência do Solo da Universidade Federal de Lavras, utilizando as seguintes rochas silicáticas como tratamentos: brecha, ultramáfica, biotita xisto, flogopitito, subproduto de mineração e subproduto de Chapada, MS. Doses de rochas silicáticas, correspondendo a 0, 200, 400 e 600 kg ha-1 de K2O foram adicionadas a um Latossolo Vermelho Amarelo distrófico e incubadas por 100 dias. Em seguida, foram determinados os valores de pH (água); Ca e Mg, extraídos com KCl 1 mol L-1; K, P e Na, extraídos pelo Mehlich-1; Ni, Cu e Zn, extraídos por DTPA; saturação por alumínio (m); saturação da CTC potencial por cálcio, magnésio, potássio e sódio; e saturação por bases (V). As rochas moídas alteraram os atributos químicos do solo. Nas doses aplicadas, a ultramáfica e o subproduto de Chapada foram as rochas que mais influenciaram o pH do solo, enquanto o subproduto de mineração é o que disponibiliza mais K. Maior disponibilidade de Zn ocorreu com a aplicação do subproduto de mineração e de Cu quando se aplicaram subprodutos de Chapada e mineração.

The objective of this work was to assess heterosis and combining ability of tomato lines with high acylsugar (AS) content (group I) and lines with low AS (group II) used to produce AS-rich tomato hybrids. The trial was carried out at the seed production station of the HortiAgro Sementes Ltda., at Ijaci-MG. The genetic material consisted of six experimental hybrids obtained from crosses between three male parents with high AS (group I) and two female parents with low AS (group II). Average fruit weight (g fruit-1) and total yield (t ha-1) were the traits assessed. The AS-rich pest-resistant lines TOM-687 and TOM-688 showed positive estimates of general combining ability for average fruit mass and negative for yield, increasing fruit size, and reducing the yield of the hybrids. Unlike the two previous lines, TOM-689 presented negative estimates for fruit mass and positive for fruit yield. The data showed that it is feasible to get competitive hybrids from lines with AS sugar content. The best hybrids were produced when these lines were crossed with TOM-684.
Com o presente trabalho, objetivou-se estimar a capacidade combinatória de linhagens de tomate ricas em acilaçúcares (AA) quando cruzadas com linhagens com baixo teor de acilaçúcares e estudar a expressão da heterose nos híbridos obtidos. O experimento foi realizado no campo da HortiAgro Sementes Ltda, localizada em Ijaci-MG. O material genético foi constituído de seis híbridos experimentais em esquema de dialelo parcial, constituído de três genitores masculinos (grupo I, com altos teores de acilaçúcares) e dois genitores femininos (grupo II, com baixos teores). Foram avaliadas as características: massa média de fruto (g fruto-1) e produção por hectare (t ha-1). As linhagens TOM-687 e TOM-688 (ricas em AA e resistentes a pragas) apresentaram estimativas positivas dos efeitos de capacidade geral de combinação, para massa média de frutos, e estimativas negativas, para produção, o que significa que elas contribuíram positivamente para aumento no tamanho do fruto, mas reduziram a produtividade dos híbridos. Já a linhagem TOM-689, ao contrário das duas anteriores, contribuiu para reduzir o tamanho do fruto, mas contribuiu para aumentar a produtividade dos híbridos. Os híbridos obtidos do cruzamento de linhagens com altos teores de acilaçúcares mostraram-se competitivas quando comparadas a híbridos comerciais encontrados no mercado. As melhores combinações híbridos foram obtidas quando as linhas com altos teores de acilaçúcares foram cruzadas com a linhagem elite TOM-684.

It is unknown why heart failure progresses even when patients are treated with the best therapy available. Evidences suggest that heart failure progression is due to loss of neurohumoral blockade in advanced stages of the disease and to alterations in myocardial metabolism induced, in part, by this neurohumoral activation. Alterations in cardiac energy metabolism, especially those related to substrate utilization and insulin resistance, reduce the efficiency of energy production, causing a heart energy reserve deficit. These events play a basic role in heart failure progression. Therefore, modulation of cardiac metabolism has arisen as a promissory therapy in the treatment of heart failure. This review describes myocardial energy metabolism, evaluates the role of impaired energy metabolism in heart failure progression and describes new therapies for heart failure involving metabolic intervention.

Stalk rot (Colletotrichum graminicola) is one of the most serious disease affecting maize crop in Brazil, especially after the flowering phase, when yield losses can reach significant levels. The use of genetically resistant cultivars is the most efficient strategy to control the disease. The aim of this work was to evaluate the incidence of stalk rot in maize commercial hybrids sinde there is scarce information to allow the use of genetic resistance as a strategy to control this disease. Eighteen maize commercial hybrids were evaluated in 2005, 2006, and 2007 in the experimental area of EMBRAPA Maize and Sorghum Research Center Sete Lagoas, Minas Gerais State, Brazil, under conditions of natural infection. From each plot, three stalk segments of three plants were sampled: the second internode above the soil line, the internode of ear insertion, and the internode right bellow the tassel. Four tissue fragments of each stalk segment were surface sterilized and transferred to oatmeal agar plates, which were incubated under continuous fluorescent light at 25ºC. Pathogen identification and quantification were performed after three to four days of incubation. The hybrids BR201 and BR206 showed the lowest infection level (below 30%) whereas the highest incidence (above 60%) was observed for the hybrid BRS1010. The pathogen was observed in all analyzed stalk segments, but was most frequently isolated from the internode right below the tassel. No evaluated hybrid could be considered to have high resistance to the pathogen.
A podridão do colmo, causada por Colletotrichum graminicola, é uma das mais severas doenças da cultura do milho no Brasil, principalmente se ocorrer após a fase de florescimento, por causar perdas significativas na produtividade. A melhor alternativa para o controle da doença é a utilização de cultivares geneticamente resistentes. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a incidência da podridão de colmo em híbridos comerciais de milho, tendo em vista a pouca disponibilidade de informações que permitam a utilização da resistência genética como estratégia para o controle desta doença. Foram avaliados 18 híbridos comerciais de milho, em três ensaios conduzidos nos anos de 2005, 2006 e 2007 na área experimental da Embrapa Milho e Sorgo, sob condições de inóculo natural. Em cada parcela foram coletados fragmentos do colmo de três plantas, sendo: o segundo entrenó acima do solo, o entrenó de inserção da espiga e o entrenó localizado abaixo do pendão. Quatro fragmentos de cada parte foram desinfestados e transferidos para placas de Petri contendo meio de farinha de aveia - ágar (FAA). As placas foram mantidas em câmara de incubação sob luz fluorescente contínua à temperatura de 25 ºC, seguindo-se a identificação e quantificação do patógeno após três a quatro dias de incubação. As menores incidências (abaixo de 30%) foram observadas nos híbridos BR201 e BR206 e a maior incidência (acima de 60%) detectada no híbrido BRS1010. O patógeno foi detectado em todos os segmentos do colmo analisados, predominando, entretanto, no terço médio superior para a maioria dos híbridos avaliados. Apesar da variação observada entre os genótipos quanto à incidência da antracnose no colmo, nenhum híbrido pôde ser considerado como de altamente resistente ao patógeno.
