Resumen: Objetivo: Identificar los principales criterios evidenciados por la literatura científica involucrados en el alta hospitalaria segura del recién nacido. Método: Revisión integrativa de la literatura, realizada en diciembre de 2021 en las bases de datos Pubmed/Medline, BVS, Scopus, Lilacs, utilizando los descriptores “patient high summaries” OR “patient high” AND “newborn”. El estudio se basó en los procedimientos metodológicos PRISMA, se adoptaron criterios de elegibilidad y criterios de inclusión: artículos disponibles en su totalidad, publicados en los últimos 5 años, en inglés, español y portugués que versan sobre la atención del recién nacidos, el alta hospitalaria o el alta del paciente neonatal. Se excluyeron todos los artículos que no cumplieran con el objetivo de la investigación y/o no tuvieran relación con el tema en estudio. Resultados: De los 94 artículos identificados entre 2017 y 2021, se incluyeron 12 estudios, la mayoría de Brasil y con abordaje cualitativo. Se establecieron tres categorías temáticas de análisis: 1) Parámetros biofisiológicos 2) Comunicación y orientación a los padres: fragilidades y potencialidades de la familia y 3) Atención posterior al alta y seguimiento en red. Conclusión: Según a la bibliografía seleccionada, se concluye que el alta hospitalaria segura de los recién nacidos requiere atención a aspectos fisiológicos, de comunicación con la familia e intersectoriales para el seguimiento en red.

Abstract: Objective: To identify the main criteria evidenced by the literature published on newborns’ hospital discharge. Method: This is an integrative literature review, carried out in December 2021 in the PubMed/Medline, BVS, Scopus and LILACS databases, using the “patient discharge summaries” OR “patient discharge” AND “newborn” descriptors. The study was based on PRISMA methodological procedures, eligibility criteria were adopted, and the inclusion criteria were as follows: articles available in full, published in the last 5 years in English, Spanish and Portuguese and dealing with newborn care, hospital discharge or neonatal patient discharge. All articles that did not meet the research objective and/or were not related to the topic under study were excluded. Results: Of the 94 articles identified between 2017 and 2021, 12 studies were included, most from Brazil and with a qualitative approach. Three thematic analysis categories were established: 1) Biophysiological parameters; 2) Communication and guidelines for parents: weaknesses and strengths of the family; and 3) Post-discharge care: network follow-up. Conclusion: According to the selected bibliography, it is concluded that newborns’ safe hospital discharge requires attention to the physiological, communication with the family and intersectoral aspects for network follow-up.

ABSTRACT The effects of diets containing oilseeds were measured to evaluate the productive and economic parameters in the finishing of young, feedlot Nellore bulls. Twenty-four young Nellore bulls were used, with an initial body weight (BW) of 311.46±0.37 kg and 24 months of age, distributed into individual stalls ( 4 × 20 m) in a completely randomized design, totaling four treatments with six repetitions per treatment. Four diets (control, based on corn and soybean meal, and three diets containing cottonseed, soybean, and sunflower) were evaluated. Feed and orts were measured daily to calculate intake and costs. The dry matter intake of the control group was higher than soybean (10.64 kg/day), cotton (9.88 kg/day), and sunflower (9.30 kg/day) treatments, respectively. The cottonseed treatment showed the highest average neutral detergent fiber intake. There was a dietary effect of diets on average daily gain, total weight gain, and final weight. The soybean treatment showed the highest performance, total gain (232.55 kg), and final weight (544.38 kg). Oilseed intake can modify the fatty acids profile in the meat, decreasing its saturated fatty acid content. Whole soybean seed favors performance, improves feed efficiency, fatty acid profile, and fat distribution in the carcass, and can reduce production costs.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to examine the effects of replacement of an antibiotic (ANT, chlorohydroxyquinoline) in the diet of weaned piglets with a prebiotic composed of β-glucans, glucomannans, and mannan-oligosaccharides on growth performance, diarrhea occurrence (DO), hematological parameters, pH of digestive content, organ weights, intestinal epithelium morphology, and intestinal bacterial counts. A total of 120 piglets (weaned at 21 d old; 6.32±0.10 kg BW) were allocated in a randomized block design, with six pens replicates and four piglets per pen as experimental unit. Treatments consisted of diets with 0, 1,000, 2,000, or 3,000 mg kg−1 of prebiotic and a basal diet with 120 mg kg−1 ANT. No differences of treatments were observed on performance, DO, pH of digestive content, organ weights, and hematological parameters. Duodenal villus density (VD) increased linearly with the prebiotic levels. In the jejunum, the prebiotic level of 2,000 mg kg−1 resulted in a greater VD compared with the ANT. Enterobacteriaceae count in the ileum and total and lactic acid bacteria counts in the cecum responded quadratically to increasing prebiotic levels. The equations estimated the prebiotic levels of 2,125, 1,167, and 1,500 mg kg−1 to provide reduced counts of the respective bacteria (ileal enterobacteria: 6.47 log CFU g−1; total cecal bacteria: 6.70 log CFU g−1; and cecal lactic acid: 7.29 log CFU g−1). Salmonella spp. was not detected, whereas Escherichia coli and Lactobacillus spp. gene copies were unaffected by the treatments. Prebiotic levels or ANT do not enhance performance or health of weanling pigs, but the effects observed on VD and microbiota profile might be an indication of the potential benefits of these products in commercial farming conditions.

Abstract Objective: To analyze the prevalence of Mycobacterium leprae detection and the associated factors among social contacts in the school environment of multibacillary cases living in a hyperendemic municipality of the state of Mato Grosso. Methods: Cross-sectional study with 236 social contacts of multibacillary leprosy from public schools and residents in Cuiabá (Mato Grosso) in 2018. The sources of information were interviews and nasal swab tests for molecular analysis by polymerase chain reaction - PCR. For the prevalence ratio estimates, crude and adjusted analyses were performed using robust Poisson regression and their respective confidence intervals (95% CI). The ArcGIS 9.1 software was used for the geographic distribution analyses. Results: The prevalence of detection of M. leprae in social contacts was 14%. A total of 63.6% of the schools surveyed had 5.1% to 50% of the social contacts of leprosy with positive PCR. The analysis of the geographic distribution in the neighborhoods showed a high prevalence of infection, being higher than 50% in some localities. The highest proportion of positive results occurred in the northern region of the city and from a precarious socioeconomic class. Conclusion: The results showed a high prevalence of detection of M. leprae among social contacts in areas with poor socioeconomic conditions. In these regions, there is a greater risk of

RESUMO A Síndrome de Silver Russel (SSR) é uma condição geneticamente heterogênea com fenótipo clínico que inclui restrição do crescimento intrauterino e pós-natal, alterações craniofaciais, assimetrias corporais, baixo índice de massa corporal e dificuldades alimentares. Há expectativa de alterações do desenvolvimento motor, da coordenação global e de fala. O presente estudo tem como objetivo apresentar características da síndrome, do neurodesenvolvimento e comunicação de três crianças do sexo masculino, com diagnóstico da síndrome, na faixa etária de 16, 18 e 44 meses, respectivamente. Cumpriram-se os critérios éticos. Foi realizada análise de prontuário, com objetivo de coletar informações da anamnese realizada com os responsáveis, e da avaliação realizada com as crianças. A avaliação foi realizada por meio da aplicação dos seguintes instrumentos: Observação do Comportamento Comunicativo (OCC), Teste de Screening de Desenvolvimento Denver-II (TSDD-II) e o Early Language Milestone Scale (ELMS). O levantamento de características confirmou a hipótese da SSR; na OCC verificou-se atraso nos comportamentos comunicativos para todos os participantes; no TSDD-II verificou-se atraso nas habilidades motora grossa, motora fina-adaptativa, linguagem e pessoal social. Na ELM verificou-se escores aquém do esperado para as funções auditiva receptiva e auditiva expressiva com habilidades receptivas mais desenvolvidas do que as habilidades expressivas. A SSR merece ser reconhecida pela comunidade científica, uma vez que as características fenotípicas e os dados de vida pregressa, possibilitam que seja levantada a hipótese da síndrome, visando o diagnóstico correto precocemente e um planejamento terapêutico que minimize os efeitos deletérios desta condição.

ABSTRACT Silver Russell Syndrome (SRS) is a genetically heterogeneous condition with a clinical phenotype that includes intrauterine and postnatal growth restriction, craniofacial alterations, body asymmetries, low body mass index, and feeding difficulties. Alterations in motor development, global coordination, and speech are expected. The current study aims to present the syndrome, neurodevelopment, and communication characteristics of three male children diagnosed with the syndrome, aged 16, 18, and 44 months, respectively. Ethical principles were followed. An analysis of the medical records, aiming to collect information of the anamnesis, conducted with the guardians, and of the assessment carried out with the children was performed. The assessment was performed by applying the following instruments: Communicative Behavior Observation (CBO), Development Screening Test Denver-II (TSDD-II), and the Early Language Milestone Scale (ELMS). The survey of characteristics confirmed the SRS hypothesis; it was verified a delay in communicative behavior for all participants in CBO; in TSDD-II there was a delay in gross motor, fine motor-adaptive, language, and social personal skills. Scores below expectations were found for receptive auditory and expressive auditory functions, with receptive abilities more developed than expressive abilities, in ELM. The SRS deserves to be recognized by the scientific community, since the phenotypic characteristics and the data from the previous life allow the hypothesis of the syndrome to be raised, aiming at an early correct diagnosis and therapeutic planning that minimizes the harmful effects of this condition.

ABSTRACT Monkeypox virus (MPXV), a zoonotic virus endemic to the African continent, has been reported in 33 non-endemic countries since May 2022. We report an almost complete genome of the first confirmed case of MPXV in Brazil. Shotgun metagenomic sequencing was completed in 18 hours, from DNA extraction to consensus sequence generation.

ABSTRACT In 2022, an outbreak of monkeypox is being reported in non-endemic areas, with unusual clinical manifestations. The detailed clinical description of the first patient that received the diagnosis of monkeypox in Brazil is reported here, whose clinical manifestations can easily lead to misdiagnosis of sexually transmitted infections. A 41 years old male presented to an emergency room with a vesicular rash with eight days of evolution. He had traveled to Portugal and Spain and reported non-penetrative sexual involvement with three different male individuals. On the third day of symptoms, he sought medical care and received empirical treatment directed to sexually transmitted infections. As the symptoms did not improve, he sought medical attention at an infectious disease referral center presenting, on admission, an ulcerated penile lesion with central necrotic crusts, a disseminated pleomorphic skin rash and an oropharyngeal ulcer. The monkeypox diagnosis was suspected due to the characteristics of the lesions and the history of intimate contact with casual partners, and it was later confirmed by sequencing the almost complete monkeypox genome. The patient was hospitalized for pain control, which required opiate administration. He developed a secondary bacterial infection on the penile lesions, which were treated with oral antibiotics. He was discharged after 14 days, with lesions in process of re-epithelialization. Given the current outbreak, we must consider the possibility of monkeypox in patients with suggestive lesions, anywhere on the body (including the genitals), added to an epidemiological link or history of intimate contact with strangers or casual partners.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Anticancer treatment gives rise to adverse effects such as increased pain and changes to body weight and menstrual cycles, with negative effects on activities of daily living. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the effect of food orientation combined with supervised (face-to-face, FF) versus home-based (HB) aerobic training on lifestyle (food consumption and daily physical activity (PA) levels), body composition, metabolic profile and cardiorespiratory fitness, among breast cancer survivors. DESIGN AND SETTING: Clinical trial study (six months) conducted at a public university in Presidente Prudente, Brazil. METHODS: Twenty-three female breast cancer survivors (40-75 years old) were allocated to aerobic training groups, either FF or HB. Both groups were trained and received food orientation. They were evaluated through a dietary record, ergometric treadmill test and blood test and the Baecke questionnaire. RESULTS: After six months, both groups had reduced their lipid levels, total energy consumption and polyunsaturated fat intake, and had increased their PA levels and treadmill test durations. However, only the HB showed reduced carbohydrate percentage and increased folic acid; and only the FF showed reduced lipid, saturated fat and sodium levels, along with increased carbohydrate and protein levels. No differences in body composition or metabolic profile were found. CONCLUSIONS: These results demonstrated the feasibility of HB aerobic training. In isolation, HB showed greater regulation of carbohydrate percentage and increased folic acid levels. Moreover, these breast cancer survivors presented improvements in food consumption, PA levels and cardiorespiratory fitness, while also maintaining their body composition and metabolic profile after the intervention, independent of the group.

RESUMO Objetivo: Analisar o conteúdo da proposição diagnóstica risco de volume de líquidos excessivo em pacientes submetidos à hemodiálise. Método: Estudo de validação de conteúdo, com 48 juízes que avaliaram o conteúdo da proposição diagnóstica risco de volume de líquidos excessivo, a partir de um instrumento eletrônico de coleta de dados. As respostas dos juízes foram analisadas pelo cálculo do Índice de Validade de Conteúdo e o teste T. Resultados: O risco de volume de líquidos excessivo foi considerado adequado, contendo 23 fatores de risco: aumento na concentração de sódio do dialisado; ausência na sessão de hemodiálise; avaliação hídrica insuficiente; baixa autoeficácia para restrição de líquidos; conhecimento deficiente; índice de massa corporal alterada; ingesta excessiva de líquidos, de proteínas e sódio; menor índice do kt/v; remoção inadequada de líquidos na hemodiálise; sede; xerostomia; idosos; comorbidades; declínio da função renal; diminuição do volume urinário; estado inflamatório; hospitalização; níveis séricos de albumina e linfócitos baixos, e de fósforo elevado; e uso de anti-hipertensivos. Conclusão: O conteúdo da proposição diagnóstica risco de volume de líquidos excessivo foi considerado adequado pelos juízes.

Abstract Objective: To analyze the content of the diagnostic proposition risk of excessive fluid volume in patients undergoing hemodialysis. Method: Content validity study, with 48 judges who assessed the content of the diagnostic proposition risk of excessive fluid volume, using an electronic data collection instrument. The judges’ answers were analyzed through the calculation of the Content Validity Index and the T test. Results: The risk of excessive fluid volume was considered adequate, containing 23 risk factors: increased sodium concentration in the dialysate; missing hemodialysis sessions; insufficient water; low self-efficacy for fluid restriction; deficient knowledge; altered body mass index; excessive intake of fluids, proteins and sodium; lower kt/v index; inadequate removal of fluids in hemodialysis; thirst; xerostomia; older people; comorbidities; renal function decline; decreased urinary volume; inflammatory status; hospitalization; low serum level of albumin and lymphocytes, and high level of phosphorus; and use of antihypertensive drugs. Conclusion: The content of the diagnostic proposition risk of excessive fluid volume was considered adequate by the judges.

RESUMEN Objetivo: Analizar el contenido de la proposición diagnóstica riesgo de volumen de líquidos excesivo en pacientes sometidos a hemodiálisis. Método: Estudio de validación de contenido, con 48 jueces que evaluaron el contenido de la proposición diagnóstica riesgo de volumen de líquidos excesivo, por medio de un instrumento electrónico de recolección de datos. Las respuestas de los jueces fueron analizadas por el cálculo del Índice de Validez de Contenido y la prueba T. Resultados: El riesgo de volumen de líquidos excesivo fue considerado adecuado, se identificó 23 factores de riesgo: aumento en la concentración de sodio del dializado; ausencia en la sesión de hemodiálisis; evaluación hídrica insuficiente; baja autoeficacia para restricción de líquidos; conocimiento insuficiente; índice de masa corporal alterada; ingestión excesiva de líquidos, de proteínas y sodio; menor índice del kt/V; remoción inadecuada de líquidos en la hemodiálisis; sed; xerostomía; ancianos; comorbilidades; disminución de la función renal; disminución del volumen urinario; estado inflamatorio; hospitalización; nivel sérico de albumina y linfocitos bajos, y de fósforo elevado; y uso de antihipertensivos. Conclusión: El contenido de la proposición diagnostica riesgo de volumen de líquidos excesivo fue considerado adecuado por los jueces.

RESUMO Objetivo: Objetivo: analisar a etapa de garantia de preparo do Team-Based Learning por meio do desempenho de estudantes de Enfermagem no Individual Readiness Assurance Test – iRAT e Team Readiness Assurance Test – tRAT. Método: estudo descritivo de abordagem quantitativa. Participaram 26 estudantes do quinto semestre de uma faculdade do Norte do Brasil. A coleta de dados ocorreu nos meses de outubro e novembro de 2018 com questionários aplicados em cinco unidades. A análise foi descritiva, por questionário, questão, equipe e aluno. Resultados: o desempenho em equipe foi superior, porém não em todas as unidades. Há questões em que os estudantes individualmente e em equipe apresentaram dificuldades, sugerindo variáveis intervenientes de origem pedagógica. Conclusão: a análise por desempenho dos estudantes sugere falhas na garantia de preparo. O estudo contribui ao indicar possíveis variáveis pedagógicas que podem influenciar no sucesso desta etapa do Team-Based Learning.

ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze the readiness assurance step of the Team-Based Learning through the performance of Nursing students in the Individual Readiness Assurance Test – iRAT and Team Readiness Assurance Test – tRAT. Method: descriptive study of quantitative nature. Twenty-six fifth semester students of a university of northern Brazil participated. Data collection took place in October and November 2018 with questionnaires applied in five units. The analysis was descriptive, by questionnaire, question, team and student. Results: the team performance was superior, but not in all units. There are issues where students individually and in teams presented difficulties, suggesting intervening variables of pedagogical origin. Conclusion: the analysis by performance of students suggests failures in the readiness assurance. The study contributes by indicating possible pedagogical variables that can influence the success of this step of the Team-Based Learning.

Método: estudio descriptivo con enfoque cuantitativo. Veintiséis estudiantes en el quinto semestre de una universidad del Norte de Brasil. La recopilación de datos se realizó en octubre y noviembre de 2018 con cuestionarios aplicados en cinco unidades. El análisis fue descriptivo, por cuestionario, pregunta, equipo y alumno. Resultados: el desempeño en equipo fue superior, pero no en todas las unidades. Hay cuestiones en las que los estudiantes, individualmente y en equipo, presentaron dificultades, sugiriendo variables que intervienen de origen pedagógico. Conclusión: el análisis por el desempeño de los estudiantes sugiere fallos en la garantía de preparación. El estudio contribuye indicando las posibles variables pedagógicas que pueden influir en el éxito de esta etapa del Team-Based Learning.

Abstract The COVID-19 pandemic has forced dentistry schools (DSs) to adapt their teaching techniques to digital platforms. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate distance classes in the Brazilian DS curriculum. After an online search of higher education institutions (HEIs) with DS on the e-Ministry of Education (MEC) platform, we included institutions with at least one graduated class to extract the age/localization of the DS, funding, number of authorized seats, MEC-grade, ENADE-score, and workload. HEIs’ webpages were consulted to identify the curriculum, subjects offered in the distance education (DE) format, extracurricular programs, scientific events, postgraduate programs, and institutional YouTube channels. Chi-square/Fisher’s tests plus binary logistic regression were performed (SPSS 20.0, p < 0.05). Of the 241 DSs evaluated, 82 (34.0%) offered distance classes, and a high prevalence was observed in the southeast region (p <0.001) and private HEIs (p = 0.001). HEIs with distance classes had lower ENADE scores (p = 0.004), lower workload (p = 0.007), and higher workload for optional subjects (p = 0.016), doctoral programs (p = 0.041), specialization courses (p = 0.017), and institutional YouTube channels (p < 0.001). Southern dental schools (p < 0.001), lower workload (p = 0.022), optional subjects (p = 0.033), and institutional YouTube channels (p = 0.005) were independently associated with distance classes. In one-third of the Brazilian DSs, distance classes and institutional YouTube channels were strongly associated variables. The association of distance learning with lower workload and low academic performance draws attention to the need for regulatory bodies for controlling the quality of DE.

Resumo Riquetsioses do Grupo da Febre Maculosa são doenças emergentes. Em algumas destas doenças, os cães domésticos agem como sentinelas. Estudos sorológicos caninos têm demonstrado que a dispersão de patógenos rickettsiais está concentrada em áreas rurais, sendo a soroprevalência maior onde as rickettsioses humanas são endêmicas. Na cidade do Rio de Janeiro, a vegetação de Mata Atlântica vem sendo devastada pela urbanização. Nesse contexto, objetivou-se detectar a presença de Rickettsia spp. em áreas urbanas da Zona Oeste do Rio de Janeiro. Amostras de soro obtidas de 130 cães foram testadas, utilizando-se a Imunofluorescência Indireta. Carrapatos coletados desses cães foram testados, utilizando-se a reação em cadeia da polimerase. Observou-se que as taxas de reações sorológicas contra R. rickettsii e R. parkeri nessa área de estudo excederam a prevalência das áreas rurais e não endêmicas, destacando-se a importância dos cães como sentinelas urbanos das rickettsioses. A possibilidade de contato com capivaras e gambás favoreceu a exposição à Rickettsia spp., reforçando a hipótese de ligação entre a paisagem local e o ciclo silvestre de transmissão riquetsial. O carrapato Rhipicephalus sanguineus sensu lato foi encontrado com maior frequência. Amostras com positividade pela PCR mostraram similaridade com R. rickettsii e R. felis, um patógeno emergente raramente descrito em carrapatos. Observou-se circulação riquetsial em áreas urbanas e em carrapatos obtidos do ambiente doméstico, os quais podem estar envolvidos na epidemiologia dessas bactérias.

Abstract Spotted fever group rickettsioses are emerging diseases. In some of these diseases, domestic dogs act as sentinels. Canine serological studies have demonstrated that rickettsial dispersion is concentrated in rural areas, seroprevalence being higher where human rickettsioses are endemic. In Rio de Janeiro, the Atlantic forest vegetation has been devastated by urbanization. In this context, we aimed to detect Rickettsia spp. in urban areas of the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro. Sera from 130 dogs were tested by Indirect Immunofluorescence Assay, and ticks collected from these dogs were tested by polymerase chain reaction. We found the rate of serological reactions against R. rickettsii and R. parkeri in our study area to exceed those of rural and non-endemic areas, highlighting the importance of dogs as urban sentinels. The possibility of contact with opossums and capybaras increased the chances of exposure to Rickettsia spp., reinforcing the hypothetical link between the landscape and the rickettsial wild cycle. Rhipicephalus sanguineus sensu lato was the tick most frequently observed. PCR-positive samples showed similarity with R. rickettsii and R. felis, an emerging pathogen rarely reported from ticks. We observed that rickettsiae circulate in urban places and ticks from indoor environments, which may be involved in bacterial epidemiology.

Resumo Rickettsia rickettsii é o agente causador da Febre Maculosa Brasileira (FMB), doença na qual humanos e cães são susceptíveis. Os cães são sentinelas nos inquéritos sorológicos, contudo, a doença canina é raramente descrita. Assim sendo, objetivou-se avaliar a infecção natural por Rickettsia spp. do Grupo da Febre Maculosa (GFM) em cães e carrapatos obtidos de domicílios próximos a fragmentos de mata, caracterizando áreas de interface doméstico–silvestre. Amostras de 115 cães e 135 ixodídeos foram avaliadas pela reação em cadeia da polimerase (PCR) tendo como alvo o gene gltA de Rickettsia spp. e o gene ompA das espécies do GFM. Um cão (0,87%; 1/115) foi positivo para R. rickettsii. Este animal apresentou alterações clínicas e laboratoriais inespecíficas (trombocitopenia, hiperproteinemia, linfonodos edemaciados, emagrecimento, anorexia e letargia). Rickettsia parkeri foi identificada em 2,96% (4/135) dos carrapatos (Amblyomma sculptum, A. aureolatum e Rhipicephalus sanguineus). Este estudo confirmou a presença de bactérias do GFM em locais preservados e não endêmicos, onde populações domésticas e silvestres interagem. Reforçamos o fato do cão ser susceptível à infecção natural por R. rickettsii. Embora este seja um achado raro, medidas preventivas devem ser tomadas contra a FMB nas áreas estudadas. Em última análise, a infecção por R. parkeri possivelmente está sendo demonstrada pela primeira vez em A. sculptum.

Abstract Rickettsia rickettsii is the causative agent of Brazilian spotted fever (BSF), for which humans and dogs are both susceptible. Dogs are sentinels in serological surveys, however, canine disease is rarely reported. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate natural infection by spotted fever group (SFG) Rickettsia spp. in dogs and ticks collected from domiciles close to forest fragments, featuring domestic–wildlife interface areas. Samples from 115 dogs and 135 ixodids were assessed by polymerase chain reactions (PCR) targeting the gltA gene for Rickettsia spp. and the ompA gene for the SFG rickettsial species. One dog (0.87%; 1/115) was positive for R. rickettsii. This dog presented nonspecific laboratory and clinical abnormalities (thrombocytopenia, hyperproteinemia, lymph node enlargement, emaciation, anorexia, and lethargy). Rickettsia parkeri was identified in 2.96% (4/135) of the ticks (Amblyomma sculptum, A. aureolatum, and Rhipicephalus sanguineus). This study confirmed the presence of SFG bacteria in non-endemic and preserved locations, where domestic and wild populations interact. We reinforce the fact that the dog is susceptible to natural R. rickettsii infection. Although this is a rare finding, preventive measures should be taken against BSF in the studied areas. Finally, R. parkeri infection is possibly being demonstrated in A. sculptum for the first time.

Resumo Fundamentos: A identificação da doença arterial periférica (DAP) pode atenuar a progressão e suas complicações adicionais, uma vez que a DAP é um fator de risco para mortalidade geral e cardiovascular. Objetivo: Avaliar a prevalência de DAP na população do Estudo Corações de Baependi e investigar fatores de risco associados em diferentes grupos etários. Métodos: Foram selecionados 1.627 indivíduos (ambos os sexos e idade entre 18 e 102 anos) residentes no município de Baependi (Minas Gerais, Brasil). Os parâmetros antropométricos e bioquímicos foram avaliados por meio de protocolos padrões. O nível de atividade física foi determinado pelo Questionário Internacional de Atividade Física - Versão Curta (IPAQ-SF). A triagem da DAP foi realizada pelo índice tornozelo-braço (ITB). O nível de significância estatística adotado nas análises foi de 5%. Resultados: Na população total, a prevalência de DAP foi de 1,05% e atingiu 5,2% após os 70 anos de idade. A frequência e intensidade do tabagismo foram maiores nos indivíduos com DAP. Uma história prévia de infarto do miocárdio e maior prevalência de hipertensão, diabetes, obesidade e sedentarismo também estiveram associados à DAP. Além disso, a DAP foi mais frequente em negros que em brancos. Após análise multivariada, a idade, diabetes, tabagismo e inatividade física permaneceram independentemente associados à DAP. Conclusão: A prevalência de DAP foi baixa e claramente aumentou com a idade em nossa amostra de uma população rural brasileira. Abstract Background: The identification of peripheral artery disease (PAD) can help prevent further progression of the disease and additional complications, considering that this condition is a risk factor for all-cause mortality and cardiovascular death. Objective: To assess the prevalence of PAD in the Baependi Heart Study and investigate associated risk factors in different age groups. Methods: A total of 1,627 individuals (of both genders and aged 18 - 102 years) residing in the municipality of Baependi (Minas Gerais, Brazil) were selected for this study. Anthropometric and biochemical parameters were evaluated by standard techniques. Physical activity level was determined by the International Physical Activity Questionnaire - Short Form (IPAQ-SF). The screening of PAD was performed by determination of the ankle-brachial index (ABI). The level of statistical significance was set at 5%. Results: In the overall sample, the prevalence of PAD was 1.05%, and reached 5.2% after the age of 70 years. The frequency and intensity of smoking were higher in individuals with PAD. A prior history of myocardial infarction and a higher prevalence of hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and sedentary lifestyle were also associated with PAD. In addition, PAD was more frequent in blacks than whites. In multivariable analysis, age, diabetes, smoking, and physical inactivity remained independently associated with PAD. Conclusion: The prevalence of PAD was low and increased clearly with age in our sample from a Brazilian rural population. Resumo Objetivos: descrever a estratégia de atuação do Centro de Informações Estratégicas de Vigilância em Saúde (Cievs/PE) na resposta à emergência da Síndrome Congênita associada à infecção pelo vírus Zika (SCZ) no estado de Pernambuco, entre 2015 e 2016. Métodos: realizada descrição das estratégias e atividades desenvolvidas pelo Cievs/PE durante a emergência em saúde pública de importância internacional relacionada a SCZ. Resultados: participação na detecção dos casos suspeitos da SCZ; participação na elaboração dos protocolos clínico epidemiológicos; construção de formulários eletrônicos para notificação dos casos da SCZ e gestante com exantema; elaboração de informes epidemiológicos; construção de página eletrônica sobre a emergência no site do Cievs/PE; inserção do evento no Comitê de Avaliação e Monitoramento de Eventos (CAME); resolução de demandas durante a prontidão; visita técnica de instituições nacionais e internacionais. As ações desenvolvidas pelo Cievs/PE foram fundamentais para a detecção e acompanhamento de 2.073 casos da SCZ, com a confirmação 390 (18,1%) e descarte de 1.413 (65,6%) casos, e 4.467 gestantes com exantema. Conclusões: a atuação do Cievs/PE permitiu o emprego de estratégias de preparação e resposta em tempo oportuno, de forma qualificada e cooperativa no enfrentamento a emergência em saúde pública da SCZ.

Results: participated in detecting suspected CSZ cases; participated in elaborating clinical epidemiological protocols; developed electronic forms to notify CSZ cases and pregnant women with exanthema rashes; prepared epidemiological reports; developed a website about the emergency on the Cievs/PE website; insert the occurrence in the Comitê de Avaliação e Monitoramento de Eventos (CAME) (Committee to Assess and Monitor Occurrence); resolution of demands during readiness; technical visits from National and International institutions. The actions developed by the Cievs/PE were fundamental in detecting and following-up on 2,073 CSZ cases. 390 cases were confirmed (18.1%) and 1,413 were discarded (65.6%), and 4,467 pregnant women had exanthema rash. Conclusions: the action from the Cievs/PE allowed to employ timely strategies on preparation and response in a qualified and cooperative way to face public health emergency on CSZ's
