Resumo A coruja-das-torres americana (Tyto furcata) vive em ambientes urbanos e se alimenta principalmente de pequenos roedores, sendo de grande importância no controle biológico de pragas. O objetivo deste trabalho foi descrever os hábitos alimentares, parentais e reprodutivos de um casal de corujas-das-torres americanas, naturalmente vivendo fora de uma residência na zona urbana do município de Campos dos Goytacazes, estado do Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. Uma caixa de madeira foi instalada em uma parede externa da casa, monitorada por uma câmera de vídeo. Uma planilha foi criada para manter o controle das observações registradas. A fêmea pôs quatro ovos, e após período de incubação de 30-32 dias todos os ovos eclodiram, mas apenas dois filhotes sobreviveram após o canibalismo entre os filhotes. Inicialmente, o macho fornecia a comida aos filhotes e a fêmea permanecia no ninho cuidando da ninhada. Depois de cerca de um mês, a fêmea também começou a sair do ninho e voltar com a presa, que era oferecida aos filhotes, com o macho também continuando com esse comportamento. Os filhotes deixaram o ninho em setembro de 2017. Os dados obtidos mostram a existência de cooperação e divisão de tarefas entre corujas machos e fêmeas durante o período reprodutivo.

Abstract The American Barn Owl (Tyto furcata) lives in urban, periurban and wild environments and feeds mainly on small rodents, meaning it has great importance in the biological control of pests. The aim of this work was to describe the reproductive, parental and eating habits of a pair of American barn owls naturally living outside a residence in the urban area of the municipality of Campos dos Goytacazes, Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil. A wood box was installed on an outside wall of the home, monitored by a video camera. A spreadsheet was created to keep track of the observations recorded. The female laid four eggs, and after an incubation period of 30-32 days all the eggs hatched, but only two chicks survived after cannibalism among the chicks. Initially, the male provided the food to the chicks and the female remained in the nest caring for the brood. After approximately a month, the female also began to leave the nest and return with prey, which was offered to the chicks, with the male also continuing this behavior. The chicks left the nest in September, 2017. The data obtained show the existence of cooperation and division of tasks between male and female owls during the reproductive period.

Resumo A atividade antioxidante do mel de Tetragonisca angustula (TAH) e seu extrato etanólico (TAEE) foram investigados. Os níveis totais de fenólicos (TPC) e flavonóides (TFC) também foram avaliados. Os resultados para TPC foram 19,91 ± 0,38 e 29,37 ± 1,82 mg GAE g-1 e para TFC 0,20 ± 0,02 e 0,14 ± 0,01 mg QE g-1 de TAH e TAEE, respectivamente. As atividades antioxidantes foram 73,29 ± 0,49% e 93,36 ± 0,27% no ensaio DPPH● e 71,73 ± 4,07% e 97,86 ± 0,35% no ABTS●+ para TAH e TAEE, respectivamente. A atividade redutora total foi determinada pelo método de poder redutor (PR) e íon ferrico (Fe III) e os resultados variaram em PR de 151,7 ± 25,7 e 230,7 ± 25,2 mg GAE L-1, para TAH e TAEE respectivamente e para (Fe III) em EC50 0,284 em TAEE e 0,687 em TAH. A análise química por HPLC-DAD do extrato etanólico (TAEE) revelou a presença de ácido ferúlico como componente majoritário no extrato. A análise de RMN 1H confirmou esta estrutura e mostrou a presença de glicose, ácido cítrico, ácido succínico, prolina e derivados de hidrocarbonetos no TAEE. Além disso, a origem botânica também foi investigada e apresentou característica multifloral, tendo encontrado 19 tipos polínicos com predomínio botânico da família Anacardiaceae, sendo o pólen Tapirira predominante (42,6%) e o Schinus secundário (25,7%). Os resultados mostraram que o mel de T. angustula é uma interessante fonte de compostos fenólicos antioxidantes devido à sua origem floral e pode atuar como protetor da saúde humana quando consumido.

Abstract The antioxidant activity of Tetragonisca angustula honey (TAH) and its ethanolic extract (TAEE) were investigated. The total levels of phenolic (TPC) and flavonoids (TFC) were also evaluated. The results for TPC were 19.91 ± 0.38 and 29.37 ± 1.82 mg GAE g-1 and for TFC 0.20 ± 0.02 and 0.14 ± 0.01 mg QE g-1 of TAH and TAEE, respectively. Antioxidant activities were 73.29 ± 0.49% and 93.36 ± 0.27% in the DPPH● assay and 71.73 ± 4.07% and 97.86 ± 0.35% in ABTS●+ for TAH and TAEE, respectively. The total reducing activity was determined by the method of reducing power (PR) and iron ion (Fe III) and the results varied in PR from 151.7 ± 25.7 and 230.7 ± 25.2 mg GAE L-1, for TAH and TAEE respectively and for (Fe III) in EC50 0.284 in TAEE and 0.687 in TAH. Chemical analysis by HPLC-DAD of the ethanolic extract (TAEE) revealed the presence of ferulic acid as majority phenolic component in the extract. The 1H NMR analysis confirmed this structure and showed the also presence of glucose, citric acid, succinic acid, proline and hydrocarbon derivatives. In addition, the botanical origin was also investigated and showed a multifloral characteristic, having found 19 pollen types with a botanical predominance of the Anacardiaceae family, with Tapirira pollen occurring as predominant (42.6%) and Schinus as secondary (25.7%). The results showed that T. angustula honey is an interesting source of antioxidant phenolic compounds due to its floral origin and can act as a protector of human health when consumed.

Resumo Em condições de estresse salino, o crescimento das plantas é reduzido, em virtude, do desequilíbrio osmótico, nutricional e oxidativo. Contudo, o ácido salicílico atua na mitigação desse estresse abiótico por promover incremento no crescimento, fotossíntese, metabolismo do nitrogênio, síntese de osmorreguladores e enzimas antioxidantes. Nesse contexto, objetivou-se avaliar o efeito de doses de ácido salicílico sobre o crescimento e alterações fisiológicas de mudas de berinjela sob estresse salino. O experimento foi conduzido em casa de vegetação, onde os tratamentos foram distribuídos em blocos ao acaso utilizando uma matriz composta central Box com cinco níveis de condutividade elétrica da água de irrigação (CEa) (0,50; 1,08; 2,50; 3,92 e 4,50 dS m-1), associada a cinco doses de ácido salicílico (AS) (0,00; 0,22; 0,75; 1,28 e 1,50 mM), com quatro repetições e cada parcela composta por três plantas. Aos 40 dias após a semeadura, foram determinados a altura da planta, diâmetro do caule, número de folhas, área foliar, vazamento de eletrólito, teor relativo de água e massa seca total. A CEa e a aplicação de AS influenciaram no crescimento e nas alterações fisiológicas das mudas de berinjela. O aumento da CEa reduziu o crescimento na ausência de AS. O dano de membrana com o uso de AS manteve-se estável até 3,9 dS m-1 de CEa. O conteúdo relativo de água independentemente da CEa aumentou com 1 mM de SA. O uso de AS na concentração de 1 mM mitigou o efeito deletério da salinidade no crescimento das mudas até 2,50 dS m-1 de CEa.

Abstract Under salt stress conditions, plant growth is reduced due to osmotic, nutritional and oxidative imbalance. However, salicylic acid acts in the mitigation of this abiotic stress by promoting an increase in growth, photosynthesis, nitrogen metabolism, synthesis of osmoregulators and antioxidant enzymes. In this context, the objective was to evaluate the effect of salicylic acid doses on the growth and physiological changes of eggplant seedlings under salt stress. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse, where the treatments were distributed in randomized blocks using a central composite matrix Box with five levels of electrical conductivity of irrigation water (CEw) (0.50; 1.08; 2.50; 3.92 and 4.50 dS m-1), associated with five doses of salicylic acid (SA) (0.00; 0.22; 0.75; 1.28 and 1.50 mM), with four repetitions and each plot composed of three plants. At 40 days after sowing, plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, leaf area, electrolyte leakage, relative water content, and total dry mass were determined. ECw and SA application influenced the growth and physiological changes of eggplant seedlings. Increasing the ECw reduced growth in the absence of SA. Membrane damage with the use of SA remained stable up to 3.9 dS m-1 of ECw. The relative water content independent of the CEw increased with 1.0 mM of SA. The use of SA at the concentration of 1.0 mM mitigated the deleterious effect of salinity on seedling growth up to 2.50 dS m-1 of ECw.

Resumo Diversas discussões têm surgido a respeito da energia proveniente de usinas hidrelétricas ser considerada uma energia limpa e seus reservatórios têm sido investigados devido à grande emissão de gases de efeito estufa (GEE), como dióxido de carbono, metano e óxido nitroso. O presente trabalho traz um estudo estatístico das emissões difusivas de CO2 antes da formação do reservatório da usina hidrelétrica (UHE) de SINOP, Brasil. Investigou-se a associação entre as emissões coletadas na superfície (água-ar) e no fundo do reservatório (sedimento-água) durante quatro campanhas de coletas de dados, realizadas no período de novembro de 2017 até setembro de 2018. Este estudo visa comparar o efeito da profundidade do reservatório no fluxo difusivo de CO2 em 34 pontos de coleta. A variável profundidade analisada foi definida a partir de pontos coletados na superfície e no fundo do reservatório. O objetivo é detectar se épocas de tempo diferentes e se a profundidade do reservatório tem impacto direto no comportamento das emissões difusivas de CO2. Como as medidas da unidade observacional são observadas repetidamente, tem-se uma estrutura multinível, os indivíduos são independentes entre si, porém existe uma correlação intra-indivíduos. Considerando essa configuração de dados, foi feita uma estimação de equações generalizadas (Generalized Estimating Equations – GEE) que é uma técnica que estima a matriz de correlação intra-indivíduos e assim, produz estimativas para os parâmetros dos modelos de regressão generalizados (Generalized Regression Models – GLM) que não sejam enviesadas. O estudo mostrou que as médias das emissões difusivas de CO2 são maiores na superfície do reservatório. O estudo também detectou que em média, existem mais emissões durante o período de chuva na região do que durante a época da estiagem.

Abstract Several discussions have arisen about energy from hydroelectric plants being considered clean energy and its reservoirs have been investigated due to the large emission of greenhouse gases (GHG), such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. The present work shows a statistical study of the diffusive CO2 emissions before the formation of the reservoir of the hydroelectric power plant (HPP) of SINOP, Brazil. The association between emissions collected at the surface (water-air) and at the bottom of the reservoir (sediment-water) was investigated during four data collection campaigns, carried out from November 2017 to September 2018. This study aims to compare the effect of reservoir depth on the diffusive flow of CO2 at 34 collection points. The variable depth analyzed was defined from points collected on the surface and bottom of the reservoir. The objective is to detect whether different periods of time and whether the depth of the reservoir have a direct impact on the behavior of diffusive CO2 emissions. As the measurements of the observational unit are repeatedly observed, there is a multilevel structure, individuals are independent of each other, but there is an intra-individual correlation. Considering this data configuration, an estimation of generalized equations (GEE) was performed, which is a technique that estimates the intra-individual correlation matrix and thus produces estimates for the parameters of the generalized regression models (Generalized Regression Models – GLM) that are not biased. The study showed that the average diffusive CO2 emissions are higher on the reservoir surface. The study also found that, on average, there are more emissions during the rainy season in the region than during the dry season.

Resumo Anticarsia gemmatalis Hünber, 1818 é uma das principais espécies desfolhadoras da cultura da soja. Bacillus thuringiensis Berliner, 1915, é uma bactéria utilizada no controle biológico dessa espécie de praga. Populações resistentes e seus efeitos subletais causados pelo uso da bactéria já foram relatados, no entanto, não há estudos sobre a plasticidade fenotípica na idade adulta exposta a subdoses de bioinseticida à base de Bt. Este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a morfometria de adultos de A. gemmatalis em condições de laboratório submetidos ao bioinseticida Dipel® ao longo de três gerações. Os segmentos corporais mensuráveis eram largura, comprimento e área das asas anterior e posterior, o peso do tegumento, tórax, abdômen, asas e todo o adulto de machos e fêmeas. Dentre os tratamentos, CL5 na primeira geração e CL10 na segunda geração foram aqueles com limiares mais baixos em relação ao peso do tórax e abdômen, considerando as proporções do corpo menores que as do sexo feminino. O peso da fêmea na idade adulta foi reduzido em 10% em relação aos machos e, apenas na primeira geração. Os machos têm tamanho corporal maior e plasticidade fenotípica mais pronunciada do que as fêmeas. Este estudo demonstra o primeiro estudo avaliando a plasticidade fenotípica de adultos de A. gemmatalis.

Abstract Anticarsia gemmatalis Hünber, 1818 is one of the main defoliating species in the soybean crop. Bacillus thuringiensis Berliner, 1915, is a bacterium used in the biological control of this pest species. Resistant populations and their sublethal effects caused by the use of the bacteria have already been reported; however, there are no studies on phenotypic plasticity in adulthood exposed to Bt-based bioinsecticide sub-doses. This study aimed to evaluate the morphometry of A. gemmatalis adults under laboratory conditions submitted to the Bt-based bioinsecticide Dipel® over the three generations. The body segments mensuread were width, length, and area of the anterior and posterior wings, the weight of the integument, chest, abdomen, wings, and the whole adult of males and females. Among the treatments, LC5 in the first generation and LC10 in the second generation were those with lower thresholds in relation to the weight of the chest and abdomen, considering the proportions of the body smaller than the females. The female’s weight adulthood was reduced by 10% about males, and, only in the first generation. Males have larger body size and more pronounced phenotypic plasticity than females. Here, we demonstrate the first study assessing the phenotypic plasticity of A. gemmatalis adults.

Resumo As perdas de alimentos por contaminação causada por fungos são de grande impacto negativo para a agricultura, gerando altos prejuízos econômicos. Para evitar as perdas de diversos produtos alimentícios pela contaminação fúngica são utilizados fungicidas sintéticos e naturais. As espécies do gênero Capsicum são usadas há muitos anos para auxiliar na conservação de alimentos por possuírem substâncias químicas com ação antifúngica entre outras. Neste contexto, o objetivo deste estudo foi identificar alguns compostos fenólicos por cromatografia líquida de alta eficiência acoplada à espectrometria de massas sequencial (LC-ESI-MS/MS) presentes nos extratos acetato de etila (EAE) e metanólico (ME) dos frutos maduros da pimenta biquinho (C. chinense) e avaliar atividade antifúngica de EAE e ME contra os fungos Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, Rhizopus stolonifer e Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. Os extratos foram obtidos de forma sequencial, utilizando o procedimento de maceração. A atividade antifúngica foi avaliada seguindo a metodologia de difusão em disco, nas doses de 25 µL, 50 µL, 100 µL e 200 µL de cada extrato diluído. A análise química evidenciou a presença de ácido protocatequico, ácido gentisico, ácido vanílico, kaempferol-3-O-robinobiosídeo e naringenina em ambos os extratos. EAE revelou maior poder de inibição do crescimento micelial nas doses de 100µL e 200µL contra os três fungos testados, enquanto ME exibiu fraca atividade inclusive na maior dose investigada. Entretanto, estudos mais aprofundados ainda são necessários para consolidar seu uso e aplicação prática na área agronômica.

Abstract Food loss due to contamination caused by fungi has much impact on agriculture and leads to significant economic losses. Synthetic and natural fungicides have been used for avoiding losses of several food products due to fungal contamination. As a result, species of the genus Capsicum have been used for preserving food because of their chemical compounds with antifungal activity. Therefore, this study aimed at identifying some phenolic compounds found in both ethyl acetate extract (EAE) and methanolic extract (ME) from habanero pepper (C. chinense) ripe fruit by liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry with electrospray ionization (LC-ESI-MS/MS) and at evaluating their antifungal activities against fungi Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, Rhizopus stolonifer and Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. Extracts resulted from a sequential process of maceration. Antifungal activity was evaluated by the disk diffusion method (DDM) at the following doses of both diluted extracts: 25 µL, 50 µL, 100 µL and 200 µL. The chemical analysis showed that there were protocatechuic acid, gentisic acid, vanillic acid, kaempferol-3-O-robinobiosideo and naringenin in both extracts. EAE showed high inhibition of mycelial growth at both doses 100µL and 200µL against the three fungi while methanolic exhibited weak activity even at the highest dose under investigation. However, further in-depth studies are needed to reinforce their uses and practical applications to the agricultural field.

Abstract The honey bee Apis mellifera is a plant-pollinator that produces commercial products. It has female castes with workers performing tasks in the colonies and a queen, it has the longest lifespan, in charge of reproduction. This bee undergoes a population decline worldwide. Therefore, it is important to understand how aging affects the digestive tract of this insect. In the midgut, regenerative cells are organized in nests replacing the dead cells. This study verified the hypothesis that the number of regenerative cells decreases as A. mellifera queen ages. The midgut was evaluated in queens at the age of four days and eight, 11 and 25 months. The midgut of 11- and 25-month-old queens presented signs of epithelial disorganization in comparison with younger queens. The number of regenerative cell nests in the midgut decreases according to the age of the queen, but the number of cells per nest is similar. The decreased number of regenerative cell nests reveals a potential loss in the amount of these cells available for the renewal of the midgut epithelium. The absence of variations in the number of regenerative cells per nest according to the queen age indicates that these cells do not undergo proliferation before the differentiation.

Resumen: Este análisis jurisprudencial tiene como objetivo verificar si el uso de discriminación interseccional realizado por la Corte Interamericana de Derechos Humanos en el caso Empleados de la fábrica de fuegos de Santo Antônio de Jesus y sus familiares vs. Brasil está en consonancia con la jurisprudencia internacional y los estándares desarrollados por otros tribunales regionales de derechos humanos. Se eligió este caso por la multiplicidad de identidades de las personas implicadas, la dimensión estructural de las violaciones de derechos humanos y las complejas observaciones actuadas por la Corte IDH sobre la confluencia de la discriminación interseccional y estructural. Se utilizaron fuentes bibliográficas primarias -casos juzgados por los tribunales- y secundarias -libros, artículos y publicaciones periódicas- para rastrear los conceptos, investigar sobre discriminación y violaciones de derechos humanos y comprender las sentencias dictadas por los tribunales regionales. Los casos usados para el análisis de la jurisprudencia del Tribunal Europeo de Derechos Humanos se eligieron sobre la base de la propia selección de “casos clave” del órgano en relación con la interseccionalidad; mientras que los casos del Tribunal Africano de Derechos Humanos y de los Pueblos fueron aportados por investigadores de renombre en la materia.

Abstract: This jurisprudential analysis aims to verify if the use of intersectional discrimination carried out by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in the case of the Employees of the Santo Antônio de Jesus Fireworks Factory and their Relatives vs. Brazil is in line with international jurisprudence and the standards developed by other regional human rights courts. This case was chosen due to the multiplicity of identities of the individuals involved, the structural dimension of human rights violations, and the complex observations made by the IACHR regarding the intersection of intersectional and structural discrimination. Primary bibliographic sources -cases judged by the courts- and secondary sources -books, articles, and periodicals- were used to trace the concepts, investigate discrimination and human rights violations, and understand the judgments rendered by regional courts. The cases used for the analysis of the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights were selected based on the organ's own selection of “key cases” regarding intersectionality, while the cases from the African Court of Human Rights and Peoples were provided by renowned researchers in the field.

Resumo: A presente análise jurisprudencial tem por objetivo verificar se o uso de discriminação interseccional realizado pela Corte IDH no caso dos Trabalhadores da fábrica de fogos de artifício de Santo Antônio de Jesus e seus familiares vs. Brasil está em consonância com a jurisprudência internacional e padrões desenvolvidos por outros tribunais regionais de direitos humanos. Tal caso foi escolhido em virtude da grande multiplicidade de identidades das pessoas envolvidas, da dimensão estrutural das violações dos direitos humanos e das complexas análises realizadas pela Corte IDH sobre a confluência de discriminações interseccionais e estruturais. Foram utilizadas fontes bibliográficas primárias -casos julgados pelos tribunais- e secundárias -livros, artigos e periódicos- para traçar importantes definições conceituais, realizar investigações sobre discriminações e violações de direitos humanos, além de compreender as sentenças emitidas pelos tribunais regionais. Os casos utilizados para a análise da jurisprudência do Tribunal Europeu de Direitos Humanos foram escolhidos com base na própria seleção feita pelo órgão sobre “casos chave” em relação a interseccionalidade, ao passo que o referente ao Tribunal Africano de Direitos Humanos e dos Povos partiu de uma seleção feita por pesquisadores renomados na área.

ABSTRACT Salinity is one of the abiotic stresses that affect gas exchange and growth of pomegranate. In this context, the application of nitrogen fertilizer through the leaves can minimize these effects. Thus, the objective of present study was to evaluate the effect of foliar nitrogen fertilization on pomegranate seedlings irrigated with brackish water. The design used was randomized blocks, in an incomplete factorial scheme (Central Composite Design) with five electrical conductivities of irrigation water - ECw (0.50, 1.15, 2.75, 4.35, and 5.00 dS m-1) and five doses of foliar nitrogen fertilization - FNF (0, 0.33, 1.15, 1.97, and 2.30 g L-1), with four replicates and two plants per experimental plot. Plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, and gas exchange (stomatal conductance, net photosynthesis, intercellular CO2 concentration, transpiration rate, instantaneous carboxylation efficiency, instantaneous water use efficiency, and intrinsic water use efficiency) were evaluated at 60 days after the beginning of irrigation with saline water. Salinity of irrigation water negatively affects the gas exchange of pomegranate seedlings. Foliar nitrogen fertilization up to 1.31 g L-1 improves plant height and number of leaves in pomegranate seedlings under salt stress. Foliar nitrogen fertilization up to 1.59 g L-1 increases the net photosynthesis of pomegranate seedlings.

RESUMO A salinidade é um dos estresses abióticos que afeta as trocas gasosas e o crescimento de romãzeira. Neste sentido, à aplicação de adubo nitrogenado via foliar poderá minimizar estes efeitos. Com isso, o objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar o efeito da aplicação foliar com nitrogênio em mudas de romã irrigadas com águas salobra. O delineamento utilizado foi de blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial incompleto (Composto Central de Box), sendo cinco condutividade elétrica da água - CEa (0,50; 1,15; 2,75; 4,35 e 5,00 dS m-1) e cinco doses de adubação nitrogenada via foliar - ANF (0; 0,33; 1,15; 1,97 e 2,30 g L-1), com quatro repetições. A salinidade da água de irrigação afeta negativamente as trocas gasosas de mudas de romãzeira. A adubação nitrogenada foliar até 1,31 g L-1 melhora o crescimento em altura e no número de folhas em mudas de romãzeira sob estresse salino. Adubação nitrogenada foliar até a dose de 1,59 g L-1 aumenta a fotossíntese das mudas de romãzeira.

ABSTRACT Chrysanthemum (Dendranthema grandiflora) is the second most produced and commercialized ornamental plant in the world. Measuring leaf area through non-destructive methods is fundamental for studies on its growth and production. The estimation of leaf area by linear dimensions of the leaves can be a strategy for this purpose. The objective of this study was to find allometric equations to estimate the leaf area of chrysanthemum. The linear, linear without intercept, quadratic, cubic, power, and exponential regression models were used for the analysis. The choice of equations was based on the highest coefficients of determination. The non-destructive method using allometric models has accuracy for estimating the leaf area (LA) of chrysanthemum from the product between leaf length (L) and leaf width (W). The LA of chrysanthemum can be estimated using the equation ŷ = 0.6611*LW0.9490 (L - leaf length; W - leaf width). This equation will allow researchers and producers to determine leaf area non-destructively.

RESUMO O crisântemo (Dendranthema grandiflora) é a segunda planta ornamental mais produzida e comercializada no mundo. A medição da área foliar por métodos não destrutivos é fundamental para estudos sobre seu crescimento e produção. A estimativa da área foliar por dimensões lineares das folhas pode ser uma estratégia para este fim. O objetivo deste estudo foi encontrar equações alométricas para estimar a área foliar do crisântemo. Os modelos de regressão linear, linear sem intercepto, quadrático, cúbico, potência e exponencial foram utilizados para a análise. A escolha das equações foi baseada nos maiores coeficientes de determinação. O método não destrutivo por meio de modelos alométricos tem acurácia para estimar a área foliar (AF) do crisântemo a partir do produto entre o comprimento da folha (C) e a largura da folha (L). A AF do crisântemo pode ser estimada pela equação ŷ = 0,6611*CL0,9490 (C - comprimento da folha; L - largura da folha). Essa equação permitirá que pesquisadores e produtores determinem a área foliar de forma não destrutiva.

ABSTRACT Zinc is an essential micronutrient for plant metabolism and has been studied in several crops of economic interest. However, there is no evidence of its use in coconut crops. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of foliar zinc fertilization with doses of zinc on dwarf green coconut seedlings based on their nutritional status, growth attributes, and gas exchange. The experimental design consisted of randomized blocks, and the treatments consisted of different zinc doses (0, 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 g per plant) with five replicates. Seedlings were positively influenced by zinc dose, mainly in terms of growth variables and gas exchange. Zinc fertilization reduced iron and manganese content and increased zinc concentrations in the leaf tissue. Zinc fertilization promoted an increase in leaf area, height, shoot dry mass, and total dry mass. Furthermore, zinc fertilization improved photosynthesis, transpiration, stomatal conductance, internal CO2 concentration, instantaneous water use efficiency, and intrinsic water use efficiency. The improvement in these growth indices and gas exchange, in most variables, was up to an estimated dose of approximately 16 g of zinc per plant and decreased with increasing doses.

RESUMO O zinco é um micronutriente de importância essencial para o metabolismo vegetal, é estudado para diversas culturas de interesse econômico, porém sem evidências de estudo para a cultura do coqueiro. Objetivou-se com este estudo avaliar a influência da fertilização com doses de zinco via foliar em mudas de coqueiro anão verde, por meio do estado nutricional, atributos de crescimento e trocas gasosas. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos ao acaso, e os tratamentos foram constituídos por doses de zinco (0, 5, 10, 15, 20 e 25 g por planta), com cinco repetições. As mudas foram influenciadas positivamente pelas doses de zinco principalmente nas variáveis de crescimento e nas trocas gasosas. No estado nutricional afetou de maneira decrescente o ferro e o manganês e aumentou o zinco no tecido foliar. O zinco proporcionou incrementos na área foliar, altura de plantas, massa seca da parte aérea e massa seca total. Além disso, melhorou a fotossíntese, transpiração, condutância estomática, concentração interna de CO2, eficiência instantânea do uso da água e eficiência intrínseca do uso da água. A melhora nesses índices de crescimento e trocas gasosas, na maioria das variáveis, foi até a dose estimada de aproximadamente 16 g de zinco por planta e diminuiu com o aumento das doses.

ABSTRACT Underground dams have been widely deployed in the semi-arid region of Rio Grande do Norte, a state in the Brazilian Northeast, aiming to mitigate the effects caused by water scarcity. In this study, the geographic distribution of the electrical conductivity of water of underground dams was evaluated at the end of the dry season of 2018 and at the end of the rainy season of 2019. Maps were created in ArcGIS 10.4.1 software using the Inverse Distance Weighted interpolator. The results indicated high electrical conductivity variability in the evaluated underground dams. The highest values were obtained in the eastern portion of the Rio Grande do Norte state, except for two dams, located in the municipalities of Apodi and Severiano Melo. In most of the underground dams (64%), the water has an electrical conductivity with low soil salinization potential (EC < 0.7 dS m-1). It was observed that the salinity of the underground dams is influenced by several factors, such as climate, relief, land use and occupation due to rural agglomerations and animal husbandry in the dam hydrographic basin, and intensive nutritional management with fertilizers in the dam area.

RESUMO As barragens subterrâneas é uma tecnologia de convivência com a seca amplamente construída na zana semiárida do Rio Grande do Norte como garantia da segurança hídrica devido à escassez de água superficial. Neste trabalho avaliou-se a distribuição geográfica da condutividade elétrica da água (CEa) de barragens subterrâneas, no final do período seco de 2018 e no final do período chuvoso de 2019. Após a coleta e análise da CE da água das barragens foram elaborados os mapas utilizado o software ArcGIS 10.4.1, com auxílio do interpolador de ponderação do inverso da distância. Os resultados indicaram grande variabilidade da CEa nas barragens avaliadas, sendo os maiores valores de CEa registrados nas barragens situadas na porção leste do estado do Rio Grande do Norte - Classes C2 e C3, exceto nas duas barragens localizadas nos municípios de Apodi e Severiano Melo. A maioria das águas das barragens (64%), devido à baixa CEa, não tem restrição de uso quanto aos riscos de acúmulo de sais quando utilizadas para a irrigação (CE < 0,7 dS m-1). Observou-se que a salinidade das barragens é influenciada por fatores edafoclimáticos, uso e ocupação do solo e, ainda pela presença de aglomerados rurais, criação de animais na bacia hidrográfica da barragem e, pelo uso intensivo do manejo nutricional com fertilizantes na área do barramento.

Abstract Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) are beneficial microorganisms that form symbioses with vines, showing improvements favorably in the growth and nutrition of seedlings after rooting them. This work aimed to evaluate the effects of AMF species inoculation and phosphate fertilization on rooted cuttings of vine rootstocks in a greenhouse. Woody rootstock cuttings from ‘IAC 766’ Campinas vines were prepared to promote rooting. After 45 days, the cuttings were transplanted and subjected to treatments that consisted of the inoculation of different species of AMF and fertilization with two doses of phosphorus (simple superphosphate) plus the control. The treatments were randomly assigned following a completely randomized design with eight replications for each treatment. After 90 days, growth parameters, macro and micronutrient content (shoot and root), root colonization and mycorrhizal effect of the extracted nutrients were evaluated. The inoculation with AMF species influenced the growth parameters, root colonization and extraction of macro and micronutrients from the cuttings of the 'IAC 766' rootstock, highlighting the inoculation with species of the genus Acaulospora, either individually or associated. Phosphorous fertilization affected growth parameters and extraction of macro and micronutrients, but these were to a lesser degree compared to that verified by the inoculation of AMF species.

Resumen Los hongos micorrícicos arbusculares (HMA) son microorganismos benéficos que forman simbiosis con la vid, al mostrar mejoras favorables en el crecimiento y nutrición de las plántulas tras su enraizamiento. El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar los efectos de la inoculación de especies de HMA y de la fertilización fosfatada sobre estacas enraizadas de portainjertos de vid en invernadero. Se prepararon estacas leñosas de portainjertos de vid ‘IAC-766’ Campinas para promover el enraizamiento. Después de 45 días, las estacas se trasplantaron y se sometieron a diferentes tratamientos que consistieron en la inoculación de especies de HMA y la fertilización con dos dosis de fósforo (superfosfato simple), más el testigo. Los tratamientos se distribuyeron de acuerdo con un diseño completamente al azar con ocho repeticiones por cada tratamiento. Después de 90 días, se evaluaron los parámetros de crecimiento, el contenido de macro- y micronutrientes (brote y raíz), la colonización de las raíces y el efecto micorrícico de los nutrientes extraídos. La inoculación con especies de HMA influyó en los parámetros de crecimiento, la colonización radicular, y la extracción de macro- y micronutrientes de las estacas de portainjertos ‘IAC-766’, especialmente la inoculación con especies del género Acaulospora, ya sea individualmente o asociadas. La fertilización fosfatada afectó a los parámetros de crecimiento y a la extracción de macro- y micronutrientes, pero en menor medida que la observada con la inoculación de especies de HMA.

ABSTRACT The management of Conyza spp. is becoming increasingly challenging in soybean, especially post-emergence; therefore, it must be linked to the effectiveness of control with selectivity. This study aimed to evaluate the phytotoxic effects on soybean and the control of Conyza spp. at an advanced phenological stage through different post-emergence herbicides registered for soybean. The experimental design was randomized blocks with plots divided in time with 4 replications, consisting of 14 treatments: cloransulam at three different doses (30, 35, and 40 g a.i. ha-1); fomesafen (250 g a.i. ha-1); imazethapyr (100 g a.i. ha-1); chlorimuron in three different doses (15, 18, and 20 g a.i. ha-1); flumetsulam (108 g a.i. ha-1); lactofen (180 g a.i. ha-1); bentazon (720 g a.i. ha-1); and flumiclorac (60 g a.i. ha-1). All were associated with glyphosate (1080 g a.i. ha-1), in addition to two controls, one weeded and the other without. Visual assessments of phytotoxicity in the soybean crop and weed control were performed at 7, 14, 21, 28, and 35 days after treatment (DAT). Bentazon stood out among all treatments, showing adequate selectivity in soybean, in addition to effective weed control at 14 DAT. No dose of cloransulam or chlorimuron herbicide was effective in controlling Conyza spp. The phenological stage of Conyza spp. and water availability impacted weed control of post-emergence herbicides and selectivity in soybean.

RESUMO O manejo de Conyza spp., se torna cada vez mais desafiador em soja, principalmente na pós-emergência, logo, deve-se atrelar eficácia de controle com seletividade. Este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar os efeitos fitotóxicos na cultura da soja e o controle de Conyza spp. em estágio fenológico avançado, através de diferentes herbicidas registrados em pós-emergência para a cultura da soja. O delineamento experimental foi o de blocos ao acaso com parcelas subdividadas no tempo com 4 repetições, sendo composto por 14 tratamentos: cloransulam em três diferentes doses (30, 35 e 40 g.i.a.ha-1); fomesafen (250 g i.a. ha-1); imazethapyr (100 g i.a. ha-1); chlorimuron em três diferentes doses (15,18 e 20 g i.a. ha-1);flumetsulam (108 g i.a. ha-1); lactofen (180 g i.a. ha-1); bentazon (720 g i.a. ha-1) e flumiclorac (60 i.a. ha-1). Todos foram associados com o glifosato (1080 g i.a. ha-1), além de duas testemunhas,uma capinada e outra sem. Foram realizadas avaliações visuais de fitotoxicidade na cultura da soja e de controle na planta daninha nos 7, 14, 21, 28 e 35 dias após tratamento (DAT). O bentazon se destacou entre todos os tratamentos, apresentando adequada seletividade na soja, além de efetivo controle de plantas daninhas aos 14 DAT. Nenhuma dose dos herbicidas cloransulam e chlorimuron foram eficazes no controle de Conyza spp. O estádio fenológico de Conyza spp. e a disponibilidade hídrica impacta o controle de plantas daninhas em herbicidas de pós-emergência e seletividade em soja.

ABSTRACT Coffee plantations installed at high altitudes and near forested areas have been highly infested with Anredera cordifolia. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effectiveness of different pre- and post-emergence herbicide treatments on A. cordifolia after mechanical mowing. A field experiment was carried out in a coffee plantation with natural infestation of A. cordifolia in a completely randomized design with a split-plot scheme and four replicates, in which the main plot an herbicides application and the subplot was the days after the initial application (DAI). The treatments were as follows: saflufenacil + glyphosate (70 + 960 g a.i. ha-1); chlorimuron + glyphosate (80 + 960 g a.i. ha-1); metsulfuron + glyphosate (6 + 960 g a.i. ha-1); flumioxazin + glyphosate (25 + 960 g a.i. ha-1), and glyphosate (960 g a.i. ha-1); with sequential application of glyphosate (960 g a.i. ha-1); glyphosate + indaziflam (960 + 75 g a.i. ha-1); indaziflam (75 g a.i. ha-1); and a control without herbicide application. Mechanical control, followed by the application of the treatments flumioxazin + glyphosate and metsulfuron + glyphosate in the first application and sequential application of indaziflam, proved to be effective. Control of this weed should be based on the removal of its plant residues from the field to reduce the regrowth and germination of aerial tubers.

RESUMO Plantações de café instaladas em altitudes elevadas e próximas a áreas florestais têm sido altamente infestadas por Anredera cordifolia. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a eficácia de diferentes tratamentos herbicidas pré e pós-emergência sobre A. cordifolia após roçada mecânica. Para tanto, foi conduzido um experimento de campo em uma lavoura de café com infestação natural de A. cordifolia em um delineamento inteiramente casualizado com esquema de parcelas subdivididas com quatro repetições, sendo a parcela principal os tratamentos com aplicação de herbicida e a subparcela os dias após a aplicação inicial (DAI). Os tratamentos foram compostos por: saflufenacil + glifosato (70 + 960 g i. a. ha-1); clorimuron + glifosato (80 + 960 g i. a. ha-1); metsulfuron + glifosato (6 + 960 g i. a. ha-1); flumioxazin + glyphosate (25 + 960 g i. a. ha-1) e glifosato (960 g i. a. ha-1); com uma aplicação sequencial de: glifosato (960 g i. a. ha-1); (6) glifosato + indaziflam (960 g i. a. ha-1); e indaziflam (75 g i. a. ha-1), além de uma testemunha sem aplicação de herbicida. O manejo integrado é fundamental para o controle adequado de A. cordifolia, devido ao seu desenvolvimento vegetativo agressivo. O controle mecânico, seguido da aplicação dos tratamentos flumioxazin + glyphosate e metsulfuron + glyphosate na primeira aplicação e indaziflam sequencial mostrou-se eficaz. O controle dessa planta daninha deve ser baseado na remoção de seus resíduos vegetais do campo para reduzir a rebrota e a germinação de tubérculos aéreos.
