ABSTRACT: The use of resistant wheat cultivars is a fundamental strategy to minimize the damages caused by blast, a disease caused by the fungus Pyricularia oryzae Triticum (PoT). The objetive of this stydy was to (a) evaluate the reaction to blast of Brazilian wheat cultivars and (b) determine whether there is correlation between severity of symptoms on wheat spikes and “sporulation rate of PoT conidia per gram of wheat spike rachis” (Rscon). Plants of 16 wheat cultivars were grown in greenhouse until flowering (Zadoks stage 65), when their spikes were inoculated with a suspension formed by mixing the conidia of three PoT isolates. The evaluated variables were blast severity on spikes at 5, 7 and 11 days after inoculation (dai) and Rscon. Rachis were evaluated individually to determine the Rscon. Correlation analyzes were carried out between blast severity means on spikes of cultivars at 5, 7 and 11 dai and Rscon. The cultivars TBIO Mestre, TBIO Aton, ORS 1401, ORS 1403, ORS Destak, ORS Feroz, and CD 116 stood out for being classified in the statistical groups with the highest resistance to blast for the four variables considered in the study. The correlation between blast severity on spikes at 5, 7 and 11 dai and Rscon is at most moderate.

RESUMO: A utilização de cultivares de trigo resistentes é estratégia fundamental para minimizar danos causados pela brusone, doença causada pelo fungo Pyricularia oryzae Triticum (PoT). O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar (a) a reação à brusone de cultivares brasileiras de trigo e (b) verificar a correlação entre a severidade dos sintomas na espiga e a “taxa de esporulação de conídios de PoT por g de ráquis de espigas de trigo” (Txcon). Plantas de 16 cultivares de trigo foram conduzidas em casa-de-vegetação até o florescimento (estádio 65 da escala de Zadoks), quando as espigas das mesmas foram submetidas à inoculação com uma suspensão formada pela mistura de conídios de três isolados de PoT. A correlação entre a severidade de brusone nas espigas aos cinco, sete e 11 dai e Txcon é, no máximo, moderada.

ABSTRACT Searching for novel sources of resistance to head blast is essential to strengthen wheat production in the Cerrado´s biome. The objective of this work was to evaluate disease intensity measures and yield for 2NS and non-2NS carriers wheat genotypes with varying heading times in Minas Gerais, Brazil. A total of fourteen wheat genotypes, two susceptible and twelve resistant to head blast, were sown in 2014, 2015, and 2017 at the Sertãozinho Experimental Station of Empresa de Pesquisa Agropecuária de Minas Gerais (Epamig) during three sowing dates without fungicide applications. The experimental design was a randomized complete block with three replicates. Blast incidence, severity, disease index and grain yield were influenced by the cycle of wheat genotypes and the sowing date, with the highest disease intensities and the lowest yields in the earliest sowing date. Blast incidence and disease index correlated negatively with grain yield and positively with percent yield losses. The group of wheat genotypes with higher grain yield (between 2,104.7 and 2,917.8 kg ha-1) and lower yield losses (between 44.3 and 54.8%) includes BR 18 as well as other five that do not carry the 2NS/2AS translocation: BRS Angico, PF 909, BRS 229, Embrapa 27, and CPAC 07340.

Pyricularia oryzae Triticum (PoT) is known to survive in wheat seeds and this condition favors its spread. There are, however, many gaps in knowledge regarding the damage caused by this pathogen in relation to the establishment and sanity of wheat seedlings. The objective of this study was to determine whether there is a correlation between incidence of PoT in wheat seeds and variables associated with the establishment and the sanity of the produced seedlings. Seven samples of wheat seeds naturally infected with the pathogen were used. The incidence of PoT in each of the seed samples was determined via the Blotter test, indicating a variation from 0 to 80.5%. The seeds of each sample were sown in 500 mL plastic pots containing autoclaved sand and the seedlings produced were evaluated in relation to the following aspects; emergency, height, lesions in different segments, mortality, abnormalities and transmissibility of symptoms. The study demonstrated that there is a correlation between incidence of PoT in wheat seeds and the following variables related to the seedlings produced; height at 7 days after sowing (DAS), incidence and severity of symptoms at 7, 14 and 21 DAS, and mortality at 14 and 21 DAS. The results confirmed that the establishment and sanity of wheat seedlings directly depend on incidence of PoT in the seeds.

Sabe-se que Pyricularia oryzae Triticum (PoT) sobrevive nas sementes de trigo e esta condição favorece sua disseminação. Há, porém, muitas lacunas no conhecimento relativo aos danos causados por este patógeno em relação ao estabelecimento e à sanidade das plântulas de trigo. O objetivo do trabalho foi verificar se existe correlação entre incidência de PoT em sementes de trigo e variáveis associadas ao estabelecimento e à sanidade das plântulas geradas. Foram utilizadas sete amostras de sementes de trigo naturalmente infectadas com o patógeno. A incidência de PoT em cada uma das amostras de sementes foi determinada via Blotter test indicando variação de 0 a 80,5%. As sementes de cada amostra foram semeadas em copos plásticos de 500 mL contendo areia autoclavada e as plântulas produzidas foram avaliadas em relação aos seguintes aspectos; emergência, altura, lesões em diferentes segmentos, mortalidade, anormalidades e transmissibilidade de sintomas. O estudo demonstrou que existe correlação entre a incidência de PoT em sementes de trigo e as seguintes variáveis relativas às plântulas produzidas; altura aos 7 dias após a semeadura (DAS), incidência e severidade de sintomas aos 7, 14 e 21 DAS, e mortalidade aos 14 e 21 DAS. Os resultados confirmaram que o estabelecimento e a sanidade das plântulas de trigo dependem diretamente da incidência de PoT nas sementes.

ABSTRACT. The objective of this study was to develop segregating wheat populations for resistance to gibberella through the introgression of synthetic wheat genes in traditional cultivars and to present the results using the backcross method. In addition, to evaluate these populations in F1RC2, agronomic aspects and type II and III resistance to Fusarium head blight (FHB). The cultivars BRS Guamirim and BRS 179 were used as male parents and three synthetic wheat cultivars (CIGM90.909, CIGM92.1666, and CIGM93.298) as female parents, both previously characterized for the reaction to FHB. Crossing and backcrossing methodological procedures were performed to provide adequate controlled conditions. The F1 (winter 2016), RC1 (summer 2016/2017), and RC2 (winter 2017) populations were developed through emasculation and pollination procedures. In the winter of 2018, segregating populations were evaluated in the field using a randomized block design. In the three generations developed in a greenhouse, it was observed that the best crossbreeding combinations, verified by the number of grains, were obtained with the male parent BRS 179. Under field conditions, all segregating populations were considered moderately susceptible and susceptible to type II resistance. In type III resistance, all segregating populations, except for CIGM90.909/BRS 179 and BRS 179, showed values above 50%. Thus, it was evident that the crossings performed with the male parent BRS 179 generated better resistance to the disease.

Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of the presence of 2NVS translocation on the inheritance of wheat resistance to head blast, in F2 segregating lines from two biparental crosses. The IPF 86766 and 'Santa Fe' genotypes were used as female parents (both 2NVS carriers), and 'BRS 404', as the common male parent (non 2NVS carrier). Using a mixture of three isolates of Pyricularia oryzae Triticum, wheat spikes and rachises were evaluated for bleaching severity at five (%BS_5dpi) and seven days post-inoculation (%BS_7dpi), as well as for the number of infection points (IPR) and pathogen sporulation (SPO). Chi-square analyses showed that segregation follows a 3:1 Mendelian hypothesis, with a major locus with a dominant allele: %BS_7dpi for IPF 86766 × 'BRS 404' and IPR for 'Santa Fe' x 'BRS 404'. Therefore, this is the first known study to show that the 2NVS translocation responsible for resistance to head blast is a major locus with a dominant allele. In a controlled environment, 'BRS 404' shows bleaching severity and SPO similar with those occurring on IPF 86766 and 'Santa Fe'.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da presença da translocação 2NVS sobre a herança da resistência de trigo à brusone, em linhagens segregantes F2 de dois cruzamentos biparentais. Os genótipos IPF 86766 e 'Santa Fe' foram usados como genitores femininos (ambos portadores d a 2NVS), e 'BRS 404', como genitor masculino comum (não por tador da 2NVS ). A partir da mistura de três isolados de Pyricularia oryzae Triticum, espigas e ráquis de trigo foram avaliadas quanto à severidade de branqueamento aos cinco (%BS_5dpi) e aos 7 dias após inoculação (%BS_7dpi), bem como quanto ao número de pontos de infecção (IPR) e à esporulação do patógeno (SPO). Análises de qui-quadrado mostraram que a segregação segue a hipótese mendeliana 3:1, com um loco de efeito maior, com alelo dominante: %BS_7dpi para IPF 86766 × 'BRS 404' e IPR para 'Santa Fe' × 'BRS 404'. Portanto, este é o primeiro estudo conhecido a mostrar que a translocação 2NVS responsável pela resistência à brusone de trigo é um loco principal com um alelo dominante. Em condições controladas de ambiente, 'BRS 404' apresenta severidade de branqueamento e SPO similares às que ocorrem em IPF 86766 e 'Santa Fe'.

RESUMO: O primeiro relato da brusone do trigo no mundo foi no Brasil, em 1986. Desde então, tem-se realizado um esforço muito grande com vistas ao desenvolvimento de cultivares de trigo resistentes a esta doença, a qual é causada pelo fungo Pyricularia oryzae Triticum (PoT). O objetivo deste trabalho foi de (i) avaliar a resistência de genótipos de trigo à brusone e (ii) verificar a correlação entre severidade da doença em espigas e taxa de esporulação de PoT em ráquis de espigas. Plantas de 40 cultivares brasileiras de trigo crescidas em vasos, no estádio de florescimento (estádio 65 da escala de Zadoks), foram submetidas à inoculação com uma suspensão de conídios de um isolado de PoT representativo da principal variante do fungo encontrada no Brasil. A severidade de brusone nas espigas aos cinco e sete dias após a inoculação (dai) e a taxa de esporulação do fungo nas ráquis (conídios por g de ráquis) foram avaliadas. Oitenta por cento das cultivares que foram classificadas no grupo com menor taxa de esporulação também foram classificadas no grupo de maior resistência aos sete dai. Entretanto, os coeficientes de correlação da análise estabelecida entre as médias de severidade das cultivares aos cinco e sete dai e as médias da taxa de esporulação de PoT não foram significativos (r=0,2464 e r=0,2047, respectivamente). Os resultados obtidos representam a caracterização atualizada da reação à brusone de cultivares de trigo do Brasil e constituem-se em importante marco exploratório da avaliação da reação de genótipos de trigo baseado na taxa de esporulação de PoT em seus tecidos.

ABSTRACT: The first report of wheat blast in the world was in Brazil, in 1986. Since then, a great effort has been made towards the development of wheat cultivars resistant to this disease, which is caused by the fungus Pyricularia oryzae Triticum (PoT). The objective of this research was to (i) evaluate the resistance of wheat genotypes to blast and (ii) verify the correlation between disease severity on wheat spikes and sporulation rate of PoT on spike rachises. Plants of 40 cultivars grown in pots, at the flowering stage (stage 65 on the Zadoks scale), were inoculated with a suspension of conidia of a PoT isolate representative of the main variant of the fungus reported in Brazil. Severity of blast on the spikes at 5 and 7 days after inoculation (dai) and the rate of sporulation of the fungus on the rachis (conidia per g of rachis) were evaluated. Eighty percent of the cultivars that were classified in the group with the lowest sporulation rate were also classified in the group with the highest resistance at 7 dai. However, the correlation coefficients of the analysis established between the cultivar severity at 5 and 7 dai averages and the PoT sporulation rate averages were not significant (r=0.2464 and r=0.2047, respectively). Results obtained represent the updated characterization to blast of wheat cultivars in Brazil and constitute an important exploratory framework for the evaluation of the reaction of wheat genotypes based on the sporulation rate of PoT on their tissues.

ABSTRACT: Even though oats (Avena spp.) have the capacity to produce numerous compounds with the potential to act antagonistically against plant pathogens, studies on the genotypic effect of this crop focusing on their nematicidal activity are limited. The objective of this study was to verify the effect of the aqueous extracts prepared with the biomass of oat genotypes, on the hatching of second-stage juveniles of root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne javanica and Meloidogyne incognita). The bioassays were carried out in a completely randomized design with four replications. Eighteen extracts were evaluated, consisting of a combination of six oat genotypes Agro Quaraí, Agro Esteio, Embrapa 139, AF 12202, UPFPS Farroupilha, and AF 1345 Ucraniana, and three extract concentrations (5 %, 10 %, and 20 % w/v). Three additional treatments were added to the study (distilled water, chemical nematicides abamectin, and imidacloprid + thiodicarb). The treatments and the suspension containing nematode eggs were placed in Petri dishes and incubated in a growth chamber for ten days. At the 5 % and 10 % w/v concentration levels, a genotype effect was observed in the hatching of juveniles for both nematode species. For the control of M. javanica the extracts of Embrapa 139 had a better performance, while the extracts of Agro Quaraí and AF1345 Ucraniana performed better when under the control of M. incognita. Thus, oat biomass formation might have the ability to suppress the nematode population in the soil, and could therefore, be used for the management of root-knot nematodes.

ABSTRACT. Asian soybean rust (Phakopsora pachyrhizi) is the main disease that affects soybean in Brazil. Fungicide applications are the main control method, but they can be influenced by the occurrence of rain. We aimed to study the control of Asian soybean rust in response to the occurrence of simulated rainfall at different times after fungicide application. The penetrant fungicides trifloxystrobin + prothioconazole (60 + 70 g a.i. ha-1) and azoxystrobin + benzovindiflupyr (60 + 30 g a.i. ha-1) and the nonpenetrant fungicides mancozeb (1,500 g a.i. ha-1), chlorothalonil (1,440 g a.i. ha-1), and copper oxychloride (672 g a.i. ha-1) were tested using two spray volumes: 70 and 150 L ha-1. Rain was simulated from 30 to 240 minutes after fungicide application. Soybean leaflets were collected and inoculated with a spore suspension of P. pachyrhizi (5.0 x 104 mL-1) and incubated in plastic boxes for 20 days. The trials were repeated twice. Nonpenetrant fungicides were more susceptible to rain washing, mainly when the 70 L ha-1 spray volume was used. For the penetrative fungicides, the best control percentages were obtained when the rainfall occurred between 120 and 180 minutes after application, while the protective fungicides had the best control percentages when the rainfall occurred approximately 240 minutes after application. The Asian rust control is affected by the characteristics of the fungicide applied, by the time interval between fungicide application and rain occurrence and by the spray volume.

RESUMO: Sabe-se que a brusone do trigo ocorre preferencialmente em condições de temperaturas relativamente altas, porém muitos aspectos sobre a epidemiologia desta doença ainda permanecem desconhecidos. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a capacidade esporulativa de Pyricularia oryzae Triticum (Pot) em tecidos de plantas de trigo sob diferentes temperaturas. Plantas de trigo do cultivar Anahuac 75, suscetível à brusone, foram inoculadas no estádio do florescimento com suspensões de conídios dos isolados Py 12.1.209 e Py 12.1.132 de Pot (105 conídios/mL). Sete dias após a inoculação, as plantas foram cortadas e separadas em três tipos de segmentos: colmos, folhas e ráquis (com severidade de brusone variando de 40 a 60%). Um grupo de cada desses três tipos de segmentos de planta contendo lesões foi disposto em câmara úmida. O material foi acondicionado em seis níveis de temperatura: 18, 21, 24, 27, 30 e 33 °C. O modelo mais apropriado que relacionou a produção de conídios com temperatura foi identificado nas avaliações feitas nas amostras de colmo. As equações estabelecidas permitiram identificar que a maior produção de conídios de Pot ocorreu entre as temperaturas de 24 e 27 °C.

ABSTRACT: Wheat blast is known for developing itself more intensely under relatively high temperature conditions but many aspects related to its epidemiology remain unknown. The objective of this research was to evaluate the sporulative capacity of Pyricularia oryzae Triticum (Pot), the causal agent of wheat blast, in tissues of wheat plants under different temperatures degrees. Wheat plants of the cultivar Anahuac 75, susceptible to blast, were inoculated in the stage of flowering with conidial suspensions (105 conidia/mL) of the Pot isolates Py 12.1.209 and Py 12.1.132. Seven days after the inoculation, plants were cut in the following segments: leaves, stems and rachis (with blast severity ranging from 40 to 60%). Groups of each one of the three plant segments with the lesions were disposed in Petri-dish moist chambers, that were submitted to six different temperature treatments (18, 21, 24, 27, 30 and 33 °C). The most appropriate model that related the conidia production with temperature was identified in the evaluations conducted with stems. The established equations allowed identifying that the highest production of conidia of Pot occurs between 24 and 27 °C.

RESUMO: A ferrugem-asiática da soja é uma das doenças mais destrutivas que ocorre na cultura. Seu controle é baseado, principalmente, na aplicação de fungicidas. O objetivo foi avaliar a sensibilidade de isolados de P. pachyrhizi a fungicidas. Os ensaios foram realizados em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com seis repetições. Por meio de teste de folíolos destacados de soja, foram avaliadas as sensibilidades de doze isolados do fungo a fungicidas sítio-específicos e multissítios, nas concentrações de 0,1; 1,0; 10,0 e 100,0 mg L-1, mais uma testemunha sem fungicida (0,0 mg L-1). Os folíolos de soja foram imersos nas devidas soluções fungicida, dispostos em câmaras úmidas em caixas gerbox e inoculados com as devidas suspensões de esporos de P. pachyhrizi (5,0x104 uredosporos mL-1). As caixas foram incubadas durante 20 dias, em temperatura de 23 oC e fotoperíodo de 12 h. Em seguida, avaliou-se o número de urédias cm-2 da face abaxial de cada folíolo. Os ingredientes ativos protioconazol, trifloxistrobina, fluxapiroxade, trifloxistrobina + protioconazol, trifloxistrobina + bixafem + protioconazol, azoxistrobina + benzovindiflupir e azoxistrobina + benzovindiflupir + difenoconazol foram altamente fungitóxicos para a maioria dos isolados, com CE50 menor do que 1,0 mg L-1. Difenoconazol, azoxistrobina e fenpropimorfe foram considerados medianamente fungitóxicos para nove dos doze isolados, com CE50 entre 1 e 10 mg L-1. Os multissítios mancozebe e oxicloreto de cobre apresentaram respostas de CE50 classificadas como pouco tóxicas para os doze isolados do fungo e o clorotalonil para oito deles (CE50 entre 10 e 50 mg L-1). Os fungicidas sítio-específico apresentaram alta a moderada fungitoxicidade aos isolados de P. pachyrhizi oriundos dos distintos locais, enquanto os multissítios apresentaram atividade moderada a pouco tóxica.

ABSTRACT: Asian soybean rust is one of the most destructive diseases that can be found in this crop. It can be largely controlled by fungicide application. The objective was to assess the sensitivity of P. pachyrhizi isolates to fungicides. The tests were performed in a completely randomized design, with six replicates. The sensitivity of twelve isolates to site-specific and multisite fungicides at concentrations of 0.1; 1.0; 10.0, and 100.0 mg L-1, plus a control with absence of fungicide (0.0 mg L-1) was assessed. Soybean leaflets were immersed in the appropriate fungicide solutions, disposed in wet chambers in plastic boxes, and inoculated using each uredinia suspension of P. pachyhrizi (5.0 x 104 uredospores mL-1), separately. Boxes were incubated for 20 days at a temperature of 23°C and a 12-hour photoperiod. Next, the number of uredinia per cm2 on the abaxial face of each leaflet was evaluated. The active ingredients prothioconazole, trifloxystrobin, fluxapiroxade, trifloxystrobin + prothioconazole, trifloxystrobin + bixafen + prothioconazole, azoxystrobin + benzovindiflupyr, and azoxystrobin + benzovindiflupyr + diphenoconazole were highly fungitoxic for the majority of the isolates, with EC50 lower than 1.0 mg L-1. Diphenoconazole, azoxystrobin, and fenpropimorph were considered moderately fungitoxic for nine of the twelve isolates, with EC50 between 1 and 10 mg L-1. The multisites mancozeb and copper oxychloride presented EC50 responses classified as low toxic for the twelve isolates and eight for chlorothalonil (EC50 between 10 mg L-1 and 50 mg L-1). Site-specific fungicides showed high-to-moderate fungitoxicity to P. pachyrhizi isolates, even as the multisites presented moderate-to-less toxic activity.

RESUMO A giberela é considerada uma doença de difícil controle, num cenário de dificuldades no seu controle químico e pela agressividade do patógeno em produzir toxinas. Diante disso, o objetivo do estudo foi verificar se fungicidas de distintos grupos químicos, isolados ou em mistura são eficazes no controle de giberela e na redução da contaminação de desoxinivalenol (DON) em grãos de trigo. Além disso, avaliar se a piraclostrobina isolada, altera a intensidade de giberela, o acúmulo de DON com reflexo no rendimento. Os experimentos foram conduzidos no campo, com delineamento de blocos ao acaso, contendo 11 tratamentos e quatro repetições, utilizando a cultivar TBIO Toruk. Os tratamentos foram compostos por fungicidas triazol, estrobilurina e benzimidazol isoladamente, além da mistura comercial de triazol + estrobilurina. Realizou-se duas aplicações dos fungicidas durante o florescimento da cultura. Avaliou-se a intensidade da giberela, eficácia do controle, contaminação de DON e o rendimento de grãos. Os dados foram submetidos à análise da variância (F-Teste a 5%) e a comparação de médias pelo teste de Scott-Knott, a 5%. O carbendazim isoladamente, foi o mais eficiente no controle nos dois anos estudados (67 e 75%, respectivamente), distinguindo-se do metconazol e da piraclostrobina. A utilização de piraclostrobina em diferentes doses e estádios de aplicação alteraram a intensidade da giberela, a contaminação de DON e o rendimento de grãos do trigo.

ABSTRACT Fusarium head blight (FHB) is considered a disease of difficult control in a scenery of obstacles for its chemical control and due to the aggressiveness of its pathogen in producing toxins. Thus, the objective of this study was to verify if fungicides of different chemical groups, alone or in combination, are effective in controlling fusarium head blight and reducing deoxynivalenol (DON) contamination in wheat grains. In addition, pyraclostrobin alone was evaluated for possible changes on fusarium head blight intensity and DON accumulation reflecting on the yield. The experiments were conducted in the field, in a randomized block design, containing 11 treatments and four replicates, using the cultivar TBIO Toruk. The treatments were composed of the fungicides triazole, strobilurin and benzimidazole alone, besides the commercial mixture of triazole + strobilurin. Two fungicide applications were performed during the crop flowering. Fusarium head blight intensity, control efficacy, DON contamination and grain yield were evaluated. Data were subjected to analysis of variance (F-Test at 5%) and means were compared according to Scott-Knott test, at 5%. Carbendazim alone presented greater control efficacy in the two studied years (67% and 75%, respectively), differing from metconazole and pyraclostrobin. Pyraclostrobin at different doses and application stages changed fusarium head blight intensity, DON contamination and wheat grain yield.

RESUMO A helmintosporiose está entre as principais doenças da cultura do milho. Realizou-se dois ensaios com os objetivos de avaliar a esporulação do fungo diferentes meios de cultura, métodos de inoculação e concentrações de inóculo para Exserohilum turcicum. Para a esporulação em diferentes meios de cultura, testou-se seis diferentes substratos: batata sacarose ágar (BSA), extrato de folha de milho (FM), potato dextrose ágar (PDA), suco V8 ágar (V8), lactose caseína hidrolisada ágar (LCHA) e meio semi-seletivo De Rossi e Reis (DRR) submetidos a dois regimes luminosos, fotoperíodo de 12 e escuro contínuo. E no segundo ensaio avaliou-se dois métodos de inoculação: a aspersão e a deposição do inóoculo no cartucho das plântulas, sendo testadas as concentrações de 5x103, 10x103, 15x103 20x103, 25x103 conídios/mL, e para o segundo foram depositados 0,5 mL na concentração de 20x103 conídios/mL nos cartuchos. Para ambos os métodos a inoculação foi feita no estádio V4 (quarta folha expandida, apresentando colar, lígula e aurículas visíveis), e mantidos em câmara úmida por 24 horas na temperatura de 25 0C. Quinze dias após a inoculação, avaliou-se a severidade estimada e a área da lesão. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado com quatro repetições e os dados obtidos foram submetidos à análise de variância e de regressão. O maior número de conídios.cm-2 foi obtido no meio DRR, independente do regime luminoso. O método de aspersão mostrou-se eficaz nas concentrações de 15x103, 20x103 e 25x103 conídios/mL

ABSTRACT Helminthosporiosis is among the major corn diseases. Two experiments were carried out with the aim of evaluating fungal sporulation in different culture media, inoculation methods and inoculum concentrations for Exserohilum turcicum. For sporulation in different culture media, six different substrata were tested: potato sucrose agar (BSA), maize leaf extract (FM), potato dextrose agar (PDA), V8 juice agar (V8), lactose casein hydrolysate agar (LCHA) and semi-selective medium De Rossi and Reis (DRR) subjected to two light regimes, 12 hours photoperiod and continuous dark. In the second assay, two inoculation methods were evaluated: spray and deposition of the inoculum in the seedling cartridge, testing the concentrations of 5x103, 10x103, 15x103 20x103, 25x103 conidia / mL, and in the second one, 0.5 mL at the concentration of 20x103 conidia/mL were deposited in the cartridges. For both methods, inoculation was done in stage V4 (fourth expanded leaf, showing collar, ligule and visible auricles) and kept in a humid chamber for 24 hours at the temperature of 25 0C. Fifteen days after inoculation, the estimated severity and the lesion area were evaluated. The experimental design was completely randomized with four replicates, and data were subjected to analysis of variance and regression. The highest number of conidia.cm-2 was obtained in the DRR medium, independent of the light regime. The spray method was effective at the concentrations of 15x103, 20x103 and 25x103 conidia/mL.

ABSTRACT Nematodes of the genus Meloidogyne are associated with soybean cultivation, unknown the reaction of cultivars. The objective of this work was to determine the reaction of soybean cultivars to M. javanica and M. incognita. Twenty-seven soybean cultivars were sown in plastic pots, in a completely randomized experimental design with eight replicates. Ten days after emergence of the seedlings, in a separate experiment, M. javanica and M. incognita were inoculated. For M. javanica, cultivars classified as susceptible were BMX Lança IPRO, AMS Tibagi RR, BMX Vanguarda IPRO, NS 6700 IPRO, BMX Ativa RR, FPS Solimões RR, TEC 6702 IPRO, NS 5909 RR, NS 5445 IPRO, 54i52 RSF IPRO, M 6410 IPRO and NS 5959 IPRO and BMX Elite IPRO, NA 6211 RR, BMX Valente RR, FPS Júpter RR, FPS Iguaçú RR, BMX Tornado RR, GMX Cancheiro RR, TMG 7161 IPRO, TMG 7062 IPRO, FPS Solar RR, M 5730 IPRO, DM5958 RSF IPRO, NS 6006 IPRO, SYN 1163 RR and M 5947 IPRO were resistant. Regarding M. incognita, the resistant cultivars were FPS Iguaçú RR, FPS Solar IPRO, SYN 1163 RR and TMG 7062 IPRO. The cutlivars FPS Júpter RR, SYN 1163 RR e TMG 7062 IPRO were resistant to both nematodes.

RESUMO: A helmintosporiose e a ferrugem comum estão entre as principais doenças fúngicas que afetam a produção do milho. Os objetivos desse trabalho foram avaliar a suscetibilidade de dez híbridos de milho a helmintosporiose e a ferrugem comum e verificar a eficiência de fungicidas no controle de Exserohilum turcicum. No primeiro experimento utilizaram-se os híbridos Pioneer (30F53, P1630H, P2530), Monsanto (AG 8045, AG 9045), Dow AgroSciences (2A550, 2A106 e 2B587) e Syngenta (SYN7205 VIPTERA, SW 3949 TL), e no experimento de eficiência de fungicidas no controle de helmintosporiose, testou-se a eficiência dos fungicidas propiconazol, azoxistrobina, ciproconazol + azoxistrobina, protioconazol + trifloxistrobina, benzovindiflupir + azoxistrobina, ciproconazol + azoxistrobina + mancozebe, no híbrido Pioneer P1630H. Em ambos os experimentos avaliaram-se a severidade foliar das doenças (%), o rendimento e o peso de mil sementes. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos ao acaso com quatro repetições. Os híbridos SYN7205, P2530, SW 3949 TL, 2B587, AG 9045, 2A550, P1630H, 2A106 e AG 8025 apresentam as menores áreas abaixo da curva de progresso de severidade de ferrugem comum. Os híbridos AG9045, 30F53 e 2A550 apresentam as menores áreas abaixo da curva de progresso de helmintosporiose. Os híbridos AG8025, 2B587, P1630H, AG9045, 2A106 e 2A550 apresentam os maiores rendimentos. Os fungicidas protioconazol + trifloxistrobina apresentam a maior eficiência de controle químico de helmintosporiose e a menor AACPD.

ABSTRACT: Northern corn leaf blight (NCLB) and common rust are among the primary fungal diseases affecting maize production. This study aimed to evaluate the susceptibility of ten maize hybrids to NCLB and to common rust and to verify the efficiency of fungicides in the chemical control of Exserohilum turcicum. In the first experiment, hybrids Pioneer (30F53, P1630H, P2530), Monsanto (AG 8045, AG 9045), Dow AgroSciences (2A550, 2A106 and 2B587) and Syngenta (SYN7205 VIPTERA, SW 3949 TL) were used and in the experiment for effectiveness of fungicides in the control of NCLB. The efficiency of fungicides propiconazole, azoxystrobin, cyproconazole + azoxystrobin, prothioconazole + trifloxystrobin, benzovindiflupir + azoxystrobin, cyproconazole + azoxystrobin + mancozeb were tested in the Pioneer P1630H hybrid. In both experiments, the leaf disease severity (%), yield and the weight of one thousand seeds were evaluated. The experimental design was carried out in randomized blocks with four replicates. The hybrids SYN7205, P2530, SW 3949 TL, 2B587, AG 9045, 2A550, P1630H, 2A106 and AG 8025 showed the smallest areas under the common rust severity progress curve. Hybrids AG9045, 30F53, and 2A550 presented the smallest areas under the NCLB progress curve. Hybrids AG8025, 2B587, P1630H, AG9045, 2A106, 2A550, present the highest yields. The fungicides prothioconazole + trifloxystrobin present the highest chemical control efficiency for NCLB and the lowest area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC).
