Abstract Cosmocercoides latrans n. sp. (Cosmocercidae) from the small intestine of Leptodactylus latrans (Anura: Leptodactylidae) from Northeastern Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina is described. The new species can be distinguished from their congeners by a combination of the characters, among which stands out the number of rosette papillae, the lack of gubernaculum and the presence of lateral alae in both sexes. There are over 20 species in the genus Cosmocercoides, and Cosmocercoides latrans n. sp. represents the third species from the Neotropical realm and the second for Argentina. Additionally, seven previously known taxa are reported; Pseudoacanthocephalus cf. lutzi, Catadiscus uruguayensis, Rauschiella palmipedis, Aplectana hylambatis, Cosmocerca parva, Schrankiana sp. and Rhabdias elegans; providing literature records and information on distribution and host-parasite relationships.

Abstract A new tetramerid nematode, Microtetrameres urubitinga n. sp., is described from specimens recovered from the proventriculus of the great black-hawk, Buteogallus urubitinga (Aves: Accipitridae), from Formosa Province, Argentina. The males of the new species are characterized by having spicules unequal (length ratio of spicules 1:3.8–5.9) and dissimilar in shape (right spicule with a simple tip, left spicule with a symmetrical bifurcated tip), caudal papillae arranged asymmetrically (two pairs precloacal and two pairs postcloacal) and cloacal lips highly protruded forming a tube. The gravid females are permanently coiled clockwise or counterclockwise in a spiral and having a tail tapering gradually to a sharp point, with a cuticular fold. This is the first nominal species of Microtetrameres (Travassos, 1915) described parasitizing birds from Argentina. The relationship between the diet of B. urubitinga and the low prevalence of M. urubitinga n. sp. is discussed.

Abstract: Two new species of Echinostoma from Argentinean birds are described, illustrated and compared with morphologically close species. Echinostoma guirae n. sp. found parasitizing the intestine of Guira guira (Cuculidae) from Formosa Province is characterized by having 35 collar spines with the following arrangement: 4 angle spines on each lappet, 8 lateral spines in a single row on each side, and 11 dorsal spines in a double row. Echinostoma jacanae n. sp. from the intestine of Jacana jacana (Jacanidae) from Buenos Aires Province is mainly characterized by having 45 collar spines arranged as follow: 4 angle spines on each lappet, 3 lateral spines in a single row on each side, and 31 dorsal spines in a double row. Moreover, we provide taxonomic comments on the validity of some species of this genus and regarded Echinostoma parvum Lutz, 1925 as species inquirenda.

Resumen: Se describen 2 nuevas especies de Echinostoma parásitas de aves de Argentina, las cuales son ilustradas y comparadas con especies morfológicamente cercanas. Echinostoma guirae n. sp. se encontró parasitando el intestino de Guira guira (Cuculidae) en la provincia de Formosa y se caracteriza por poseer un collar con 35 espinas con la siguiente organización: 4 angulares a cada lado, 8 laterales en una simple hilera a cada lado y 11 dorsales en una doble hilera. Echinostoma jacanae n. sp. parasita el intestino de Jacana jacana (Jacanidae) de la provincia de Buenos Aires; se caracteriza principalmente por poseer un collar con 45 espinas con la siguiente disposición: 4 angulares a cada lado, 3 laterales en una hilera simple a cada lado y 31 dorsales en una hilera doble. Además, proporcionamos comentarios taxonómicos sobre la validez de algunas especies del género y consideramos a Echinostoma parvum Lutz, 1925 como especie inquirenda.

Tanaisia dubia Freitas, 1951 (Digenea: Eucotylidae) is redescribed on the basis of specimens collected from the urinary tubules of the White-backed Stilt Himantopus melanurus (Charadriiformes: Recurvirostridae), and the Great Kiskadee Pitangus sulphuratus (Passeriformes: Tyrannidae), from Argentina. The specimens studied here are consistent with the original description, which was based on 1 specimen found parasitizing the Gray Yellowlegs Tringa melanoleuca (Charadriiformes, Scolopacidae), from Brazil. This redescription adds new morphological characters and enlarges the range of morphometric data for this species. A key to the genera of Tanaisiinae, as well as one for Neotropical species of Tanaisia Skrjabin, 1924 are presented. The diagnosis of Tanaisiinae is emended to include the presence of a cirrus sac. T. dubia is reported for the first time in Argentina and H. melanurus and P. sulphuratus represent new host records.

Tanaisia dubia Freitas, 1951 (Digenea: Eucotylidae) es redescrita a partir de ejemplares encontrados en los túbulos urinarios del tero real Himantopus melanurus (Charadriiformes: Recurvirostridae) y del benteveo Pitangus sulphuratus (Passeriformes: Tyrannidae) de Argentina. Los especímenes aquí estudiados corresponden con la descripción original, basada en un ejemplar hallado parasitando al pitotoy grande Tringa melanoleuca (Charadriiformes, Scolopacidae), de Brasil. Esta redescripción aporta nuevos caracteres morfológicos y amplía el intervalo de valores morfométricos para esta especie. Se presenta una clave para la identificación de los géneros de Tanaisiinae y otra para las especies neotropicales del género Tanaisia Skrjabin, 1924. La descripción de Tanaisiinae es enmendada para incluir la presencia del saco del cirro. Tanaisia dubia se registra por primera vez para Argentina parasitando 2 especies hospedadoras nuevas, H. melanurus y P. sulphuratus.

Two species of nematodes, Rhabdias cf. elegans (Rhabdiasidae) and Aplectana hylambatis (Cosmocercidae), were recovered from the lungs and intestine of Trachycephalus typhonius (Anura: Hylidae) captured in Formosa Province, Argentina. Morphological and morphometric data of both species are provided, and previous records of Rhabdias spp. in the Neotropical region are summarized. The finding of Rhabdias cf. elegans constitutes the first record of this genus in the Formosa Province, and the finding of A. hylambatis represents the first record of this species as a parasite of hylid frogs, and the first report in Formosa Province. Trachycephalus typhonius represents a new host for both parasites.

Dos especies de nematodos, Rhabdias cf. elegans (Rhabdiasidae) y Aplectana hylambatis(Cosmocercidae), fueron recuperados de los pulmones e intestino de Trachycephalus typhonius (Anura: Hylidae) capturados en la provincia de Formosa, Argentina. Se proveen datos morfológicos y morfométricos de ambas especies y se resumen los registros previos de Rhabdias spp. en la región neotropical. El hallazgo de Rhabdias cf. elegans constituye el primer registro del género Rhabdiasen la provincia de Formosa y el de A. hylambatisrepresenta el primer registro de esta especie en hílidos,y el primer reporteen la provincia de Formosa. Trachycephalus typhonius es un nuevo hospedero para ambos parásitos.

The helminth communities of silverside, Odontesthes bonariensis (Valenciennes, 1835), from two Argentinean lagoons were studied and compared at component community and infracommunity levels. Nine helminth species were found: five digeneans (Austrodiplostomum cf. mordax, Ascocotyle (Phagicola) cf. diminuta, Ascocotyle sp., Thometrema bonariensis and Saccocoelioides sp.); two nematodes (Contracaecum sp. and Hysterothylacium sp.); one acanthocephalan (Wolffhugelia matercula) and one cestode (Cangatiella macdonaghi). Odontesthes bonariensis is a new host record for five parasite species. Richness, diversity and number of helminths in silversides from Salada Grande lagoon were higher than in those from Lacombe lagoon. This could be related with lagoon size, abundance of mollusks and fish-eating birds, and size and diet of silversides captured in each lagoon. In Salada Grande lagoon the helminth community of silversides was dominated by the allogenic and generalist species A. cf. mordax; while the autogenic and intermediate specialist species C. macdonaghi was dominant in Lacombe lagoon. Host sex did not affect richness, diversity or total abundance, whereas host size was positively correlated with these attributes, except diversity in Salada Grande lagoon.

Las comunidades de helmintos del pejerrey, Odontesthes bonariensis (Valenciennes, 1835), procedentes de dos lagunas argentinas fueron estudiadas y comparadas a nivel de comunidad componente e infracomunidad. Se hallaron nueve especies de helmintos, cinco digeneos (Austrodiplostomum cf. mordax, Ascocotyle (Phagicola) cf. diminuta, Ascocotyle sp., Thometrema bonariensis y Saccocoelioides sp.); dos nematodes (Hysterothylacium sp. y Contracaecum sp.); un acantocéfalo (Wolffhugelia matercula) y un cestode (Cangatiella macdonaghi). Odontesthes bonariensis es reportado como un nuevo hospedador para cinco de estas especies. La riqueza específica, la diversidad y la carga parasitaria fueron mas elevadas en la laguna Salada Grande que en la Laguna Lacombe. Esto podría estar relacionado con atributos del cuerpo de agua (tamaño, abundancia de moluscos y aves ictiófagas) y del hospedador (talla y dieta de los pejerreyes capturados en cada laguna). En la laguna Salada Grande, la comunidad de helmintos fue dominada por una especie alogénica y generalista, A. cf. mordax; mientras que en la laguna Lacombe fue dominada por un a especie autogénica y especialista intermedia, C. macdonaghi. El sexo del hospedador no estuvo correlacionado con la riqueza específica, diversidad y carga parasitaria, mientras que la talla del hospedador presentó correlación positiva con estos atributos, excepto la diversidad en la laguna Salda Grande.

The helminthological survey of 13 specimens of 5 ciconiiform species revealed the presence of 10 species of intestinal digeneans: Sphincterodiplostomum musculosum Dubois, 1936 in Tigrisoma lineatum and Ardea alba; Tylodelphys elongata (Lutz, 1928) in T. lineatum; Apharyngostrigea ardearum (Lutz, 1928) and Dolichorchis lacombeensis Lunaschi and Drago, 2006 in Ardea cocoi and Ardea alba; Posthodiplostomum nanum Dubois, 1937 in A. alba and T. lineatum; Ascocotyle diminuta (Stunkard and Haviland, 1924) in A. alba; Petasiger sp.1 in A. cocoi and Paryphostomum segregatum Dietz, 1909, Strigea vaginata (Brandes, 1888) and Petasiger sp. 2 in Coragyps atratus. Syrigma sibilatrix was free of digeneans. The reports of A. ardearum, T. elongata, S. musculosum and D. lacombeensis represent new host records; the other reports are new geographical records. Moreover, the specimens described as Apharyngostrigea brasiliana Szidat, 1929 by Labriola and Suriano (1998) were analyzed and transferred to A. ardearum.

El estudio parasitológico de 13 ejemplares pertenecientes a 5 especies de aves Ciconiiformes reveló la presencia de 10 especies de digéneos intestinales: Sphincterodiplostomum musculosum Dubois, 1936 en Tigrisoma lineatum y Ardea alba; Tylodelphys elongata (Lutz, 1928) en T. lineatum; Apharyngostrigea ardearum (Lutz, 1928) y Dolichorchis lacombeensis Lunaschi y Drago, 2006 en Ardea cocoi y A. alba; Posthodiplostomum nanum Dubois, 1937 en A. alba y T. lineatum; Ascocotyle diminuta (Stunkard y Haviland, 1924) en A. alba; Petasiger sp.1 en A. cocoi y Paryphostomum segregatum Dietz, 1909, Strigea vaginata (Brandes, 1888) y Petasiger sp. 2 en Coragyps atratus. Syrigma sibilatrix no se encontró parasitada por digéneos. El presente estudio aporta nuevos registros de hospedadores para A. ardearum, T. elongata, S. musculosum y D. lacombeensis y nuevos registros geográficos para las restantes especies. Además, los organismos descritos como Apharyngostrigea brasiliana Szidat, 1929 por Labriola y Suriano (1998) fueron analizados y transferidos a A. ardearum.

Neodiplostomum travassosi Dubois, 1937 (Diplostomidae, Diplostominae) is redescribed and ilustrated based on the study of specimens collected from the intestine of Polyborus plancus (Miller) (Falconidae) and Phalacrocorax brasilianus (Gmelin) (Phalacrocoracidae), captured in Formosa province, Argentina. The original description of this species was based on specimens collected from Strigiformes and Piciformes in Brazil. Morphology and dimensions of specimens described in this paper agree with the original description. These represent two new host records and a new geographical record.

Se redescribe e ilustra a Neodiplostomum travassosi Dubois, 1937 (Diplostomidae: Diplostominae) con base en ejemplares recolectados del intestino de Polyborus plancus (Miller) (Falconidae) y Phalacrocorax brasilianus (Gmelin) (Phalacrocoracidae), capturados en la provincia de Formosa, Argentina. La descripción original de esta especie está basada en ejemplares recolectados de Strigiformes y Piciformes de Brasil. La morfología y dimensiones de los ejemplares estudiados en este trabajo concuerdan con la descripción original. Este hallazgo permite acrecentar la lista de hospederos y efectuar un nuevo registro geográfico para esta especie.
