RESUMO Objetivou-se avaliar a produção de sete materiais genéticos de Eucalyptus, implantados no Município de Paty do Alferes, Rio de Janeiro. Foram utilizadas quatro espécies de eucalipto, um híbrido Eucalyptus urophylla x E. grandis, oriundo de sementes, e dois clones de Eucalyptus urophylla x E. grandis, denominados amarelo e branco. A região apresenta déficit hídrico no solo de maio a setembro. Após o plantio, foram avaliados a sobrevivência aos dois meses, o diâmetro à altura de 1,30 m do solo e a altura das plantas aos 18 e 80 meses. Nessa última medição, seis árvores médias de cada material genético foram abatidas para determinação do volume e da biomassa do lenho. Eucalyptus grandis, clone amarelo e Eucalyptus urophylla x grandis apresentaram os melhores desempenhos, sendo os mais indicados para a formação de povoamentos na região do Médio Paraíba do Sul, RJ. Eucalyptus pellita foi o que obteve menor crescimento e produção.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the production of Eucalyptus genetic materials, implanted in the town of Paty do Alferes, Rio de Janeiro. Were used four eucalyptus species, the hybrid Eucalyptus urophylla x E. grandis, from seedlings and two clones (yellow and white) of Eucalyptus urophylla x E. grandis. The region soil is water depleted from May to September. After planting, we evaluated the survival at 2 months and the diameter to the height of 1.30 meter from the ground, and total plant height at 18 and 80 months. In the latter measurement, six medium trees of each genetic material were abated to determine the volume and biomass of the wood. Eucalyptus grandis, yellow clone and Eucalyptus urophylla x E. grandis showed the best results, with the nominees for the formation of settlements in the region Médio Paraíba do Sul, RJ. Eucalyptus pellita showed lowest growth and yield.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o impacto da substituição de pastagens por reflorestamento com eucalipto e mata secundária sobre a dinâmica da matéria orgânica e emissão de N2O, em áreas da Mata Atlântica. As áreas avaliadas localizam-se no Município de Cruzeiro, SP, e têm histórico comum de uso da terra, tendo sido inicialmente ocupadas por pastagem. Desde 1973, uma parte desta área foi reservada para regeneração natural, outra foi ocupada com plantio de eucalipto e outra permaneceu como pastagem. Para quantificar o estoque de C e nitrogênio do solo e a abundância isotópica de 13C na matéria orgânica do solo (MOS), foram coletadas amostras de solo até 1 m de profundidade, com uso de três repetições. A emissão de N2O foi avaliada com câmaras estáticas pelo período de um ano. Não foram observadas diferenças significativas nos estoques de C e N do solo nas áreas de mata e eucalipto, em relação à pastagem. A mata apresenta maior influência sobre a composição da MOS. Na mata de eucalipto ocorrem as maiores perdas anuais de N, pela emissão de N2O.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the impact on soil organic matter dynamics and N2O emission of the substitution of pasture areas by eucaliptus reforestation and secondary forest. The evaluated areas are localized in Cruzeiro municipality, São Paulo state, Brazil. The areas presented common soil usage history, and were used, at first, as pasture. Since 1973, part of the area was reserved for regeneration of the secondary forest, another part was planted with eucalyptus, and the remaining was kept as pasture. To quantify the stocks of C, N and in soil and the 13C isotopic abundance in soil organic matter (SOM), samples from these areas were collected until 1-m depth, using three replicates. The emission of N2O was evaluated with static chambers for one year. The three areas did not show significant differences on C and N stocks of the secondary forest and eucalyptus areas, in comparison to the pasture one. Secondary forest and eucalyptus has greater carbon contribution to SOM. Secondary forest and eucalyptus have highest annual losses of N, as N2O.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a viabilidade do uso de blocos prensados como recipientes na produção de mudas de Inga marginata, Jacaranda puberula e Zeyheria tuberculosa. O sistema de bloco prensado (440 cm³/muda) foi comparado com sacos plásticos (330 cm³) e tubetes de seção circular (280 cm³). O substrato utilizado foi uma mistura de composto orgânico, moinha de carvão e solo argiloso (6:2:2). Após a prensagem, os blocos prensados apresentaram dimensões de 60 x 40 x 12 cm (comprimento, largura e altura). Foram medidos a altura e o diâmetro das mudas mensalmente, dos 60 até 150 dias após a repicagem. Em seguida, determinou-se o peso de matéria seca da parte aérea e do sistema radicular. Para avaliar o comportamento das mudas produzidas nos diferentes tratamentos e em condições de campo, mediram-se a taxa de sobrevivência aos 2 meses e o crescimento em altura aos 10 meses após o plantio. As mudas produzidas no sistema de blocos prensados apresentaram crescimento superior ou similar àquelas produzidas nos sacos plásticos e tubetes. Em condições de campo, a taxa de sobrevivência e o crescimento das plantas oriundas do sistema de blocos prensados não apresentaram diferenças estatísticas em relação às plantas oriundas de sacos plásticos e tubetes. O sistema de blocos prensados mostrou-se tecnicamente viável para a produção de mudas das espécies florestais estudadas.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the feasibility of using pressed blocks as containers for the production of Inga marginata, Jacaranda puberula and Zeyheria tuberculosa seedlings. The pressed block system (440 cm³) was compared to plastic bags (330 cm³) and circular section tubes (280 cm³). The substrate used was a mixture of organic matter, ground charcoal and clayish soil (6:2:2). After pressing, the size of the blocks was 60 x 40 x 12 cm (length, width and height). Height and diameter of the seedlings were measured monthly, starting at 60 to 150 days after transplantation. The next step was to determine the dry matter weight of the aerial part and root system. To evaluate the behavior of the seedlings produced in the various treatments under field conditions, the survival rate at two months from planting was measured. The seedlings produced by the pressed block system showed a growth higher than or similar to those produced in plastic bags or tubes. Under field conditions, no statistical differences were observed for survival rate and growth of the seedlings from the pressed blocks, plastic bags and tubes. The pressed block system was found to be technically feasible for the production of seedlings of the forest trees species studied.
