ABSTRACT Phosphorous is a limiting nutrient in sugarcane cultivated in Argisols in the Northeast of Brazil, and understanding its availability in the soil, as well as determining sufficiency ranges in the plants is essential when recommending levels of phosphorus fertiliser. The aim of this study was to: (i) Define classes for interpreting P availability in Argisols of the Northeast using the Mehlich-1 and Anion Exchange Resin (AER) extractors; (ii) Evaluate P extraction by the same extractors; and (iii) Correlate the P content of the soil with the P content of the plants, and establish sufficiency ranges in the plants. Three field trials were carried out in a sandy (PVAd1), medium (PAdx) and clayey (PVAd2) Argisol, applying the following amounts of P: 0, 40, 80, 120, 160 and 200 kg ha-1 P2O5. The AER extracted more P than did Mehlich-1 from each of the soils. The P content of the classes for interpreting P availability determined by the AER were higher than those determined by Mehlich-1. AER was the best extractor to represent P availability in the Argisol with the clayey texture (PVAd2), and Mehlich-1 in the Argisol with the sandy texture (PVAd1). The ranges of P sufficiency in the leaves of the sugarcane varied between soils, with values of 0.66-0.73 g kg-1 in PVAd1, 0.59-0.69 g kg-1 in PVAd2 and 0.34-0.47 g kg-1 in PAdx. ABSTRACT Backgrounds: COVID-19 pandemic led to a sharp decline in surgical volume worldwide due to the postponement of elective procedures. This study evaluated the impact of COVID-19 pandemic in surgical volumes and outcomes of abdominal surgery in high-risk patients requiring intensive care unit admission. Methods: patients admitted for postoperative care were retrospectively evaluated. Data concerning perioperative variables and outcomes were compared in two different periods: January 2017-December 2019 and January 2020-December 2022, respectively, before (period I) and after (period II) the onset of COVID-19 pandemic. Results: 1.402 patients (897 women, mean age 62+17 years) were investigated. Most of the patients underwent colorectal (n=393) and pancreato-biliary (n=240) surgery, 52% of elective procedures. Surgical volume was significantly lower in period II (n=514) when compared to period I (n= 888). No recovery was observed in the number of surgical procedures in 2022 (n=135) when compared to 2021(n=211) and 2020 (n=168). Subjects who underwent abdominal surgery in period II had higher Charlson comorbidity index (4,85+3,0 vs. 4,35+2,8, p=0,002), more emergent/urgent procedures (51% vs. 45%, p=0,03) and more clean-contaminated wounds (73,5% vs. 66,8%, p=0,02). A significant decrease in the volume of colorectal surgery was also observed (24% vs, 31%, p<0,0001) after the onset of COVID-19 pandemic, 125 (8,9%) died, no deaths due to COVID-19 infection. Mortality was higher in period II when compared to period I (11% vs. 8%, p=0,08). Conclusions: COVID-19 pandemic was associated with a decrease in surgical volume of high-risk patients without apparent recovery in recent years. No influence of COVID-19 was noted in postoperative mortality. RESUMO Introdução: a pandemia COVID-19 levou a um importante declínio mundial no volume cirúrgico devido ao adiamento de procedimentos eletivos. Este estudo avaliou o impacto da pandemia COVID-19 nos volumes e nos resultados da cirurgia abdominal em pacientes criticos. Métodos: pacientes internados para cuidados pósoperatórios foram avaliados retrospectivamente. Dados relativos aos desfechos perioperatórios foram comparados em dois períodos: janeiro-2017 a dezembro-2019 e janeiro-2020 a dezembro-2022, respectivamente, antes (período I) e depois (período II) da pandemia COVID-19. Resultados: foram investigados 1.402 pacientes (897 mulheres, idade 62+17 anos). A maioria dos pacientes foi submetida a cirurgia colorretal (n=393) e pancreatobiliar (n=240), sendo 52% dos procedimentos eletivos. O volume cirúrgico foi significativamente menor no período II (n=514) quando comparado ao período I (n=888). Não foi observada recuperação no número de procedimentos cirúrgicos em 2022 (n=135) quando comparado a 2021 (n=211) e 2020 (n=168). Indivíduos submetidos à cirurgia abdominal no período II apresentaram maior índice de comorbidade de Charlson (4,85+3,0 vs. 4,35+2,8, p=0,002), mais procedimentos emergenciais/urgentes (51% vs. 45%, p =0,03) e mais feridas potencialmente contaminadas (73,5% vs. 66,8%, p=0,02). Observou-se diminuição significativa no volume de cirurgia colorretal (24% vs, 31%, p<0,0001) após o início da pandemia de COVID-19, com 125 (8,9%) óbitos, nenhuma morte por COVID-19. A mortalidade foi maior no período II quando comparada ao período I (11% vs. 8%, p=0,08). Abstract Objective The present study aimed to describe and analyze how parents naturally carry out shared reading with their children, without specific instructions. Additionally, the effect of a brief intervention to teach parents to use shared reading strategies was evaluated. Method Four families with children between the ages of four and five without a diagnosis of any disorder participated. We analyzed home footage captured by parents of shared reading moments, and to analyze the intervention, we measured the number of language stimulus strategies used by the parents as well as measures of the children's language. Results The description of the natural situation generated four categories of analysis: organization of the physical space, contact with the book, the way the story is told and the emotional relationship between parents and children. After the brief intervention, improvements were found in all measured variables when compared to pre-intervention data. RESUMO Objetivo O presente estudo teve como objetivo descrever e analisar como os pais realizam a leitura compartilhada com seus filhos, naturalmente, sem instruções específicas. Adicionalmente, foi avaliado o efeito de uma intervenção breve para ensinar pais a usarem estratégias de leitura compartilhada. Método Participaram quatro famílias com crianças entre quatro e cinco anos sem diagnóstico de qualquer transtorno. Foram analisadas filmagens que os pais realizaram em suas casas de um momento de leitura compartilhada e para análise da intervenção foi mensurado o número de utilização das estratégias de estímulo da linguagem pelos pais e medidas de linguagem das crianças. Resultados A descrição da situação natural gerou quatro categorias de análise: organização do espaço físico, contato com o livro, forma como a história é contada e relação afetiva entre pais e filhos. Após a intervenção breve foram encontradas melhorias em todas as variáveis medidas quando comparadas aos dados pré-intervenção. Abstract Objectives: to evaluate the association between the time to initiate the first skin-to-skin contact (SSC) and the daily practice time with the rates of late-onset sepsis in newborns ≤1,800g. Methods: a multicentric cohort study was carried out at the neonatal units located in three Brazilian geographic regions. The SSC time was recorded in individual files by the hospital staff and the newborn’s parents. Maternal and neonatal data were obtained from medical records and through questionnaires applied to the mothers. Data analysis was carried out using a tree algorithm classification, which divided the data set into mutually exclusive subsets that best described the variable response. Results: 405 newborns participated in the study, with an average of 31.3 ± 2.7 weeks and 1,412g (QR=1,164-1,605g) as a median birth weight. The first SSC was carried out within 137 hours of life (≤5.7 days) was associated with a lower rate of late sepsis (p=0.02) for newborns who underwent daily SSC of 112.5 to 174.7 min/day (1.9 to 2.9h/day), with a reduction in the sepsis rate from 39.3% to 27.5%. Furthermore, the duration of SSC >174.7min/day (>2.9h/day) was relevant (p<0.001) for newborns who weighed >1,344g, with a reduction in this rate from 24.1% to 6%. Conclusions: SSP has been proven to be significant in reducing late-onset sepsis rates in preterm newborns, especially when carried out in a timely manner (≤5.7 days) and prolonged (>2.9h/day). Resumo Objetivos: avaliar a associação entre o tempo para iniciar o primeiro contato pele a pele (CPP) e o tempo diário praticado com a taxa de sepse tardia em recém-nascidos ≤1.800g. Métodos: coorte multicêntrica realizada em unidades neonatais de três regiões geográficas brasileiras. O CPP foi registrado em ficha individual pela equipe e pais do recém-nascido. Dados maternos e neonatais foram obtidos por questionários aplicados às mães e em prontuários médicos. A análise dos dados foi realizada por algoritmo da árvore de classificação, que dividiu o conjunto de dados em subconjuntos mutuamente exclusivos que melhor descreveram a variável resposta. Resultados: 405 recém-nascidos participaram do estudo, com média de 31,3±2,7 semanas de idade gestacional e mediana de peso ao nascer 1.412g (IQ=1.164-1.605g). Realizar o primeiro CPP com até 137h de vida (≤5,7 dias) foi associado a menor taxa de sepse tardia (p=0,02) para recém-nascidos que fizeram CPP diário de 112,5 a 174,7 min/dia (1,9 a 2,9h/dia), com redução na taxa de sepse (39,3% para 27,5%). Além disso, a duração do CPP>174,7min/dia (>2,9h/dia) foi relevante (p<0,001) para os recém-nascidos >1.344g, com redução nesse desfecho (21,1% para 6%). ABSTRACT School is the main environment for the formal promotion of literacy and it is the first step to the world of reading. However, with the occurrence of the COVID-19 pandemic, pedagogical activities had to be suspended or adapted to the remote model, causing harm to all students, and notably to those who already had school difficulties, especially those related to reading. Proficiency and the habit of reading are important conditions for academic development. Studies have shown that the application of strategies in the family context and the use of digital platforms, with the purpose of sharing readings, are practices that promote the reading habit. Therefore, the present study aimed to report the experiences of applying an online procedure to encourage reading in children with school difficulties and their respective guardians (six dyads), using a specific digital platform for sharing readings. The results obtained include a behavioral change in the children towards solid reading habits, a change in mothers' daily attitudes in the family environment towards encouraging reading, and mothers’ encouraging behaviors when sharing their children’s reading. The experiences reported were promising and, to further consolidate the findings, new studies are suggested with a sample size that allows statistical analyses, longitudinal studies and also with a possible face-to-face or hybrid application of the procedure. RESUMO A escola é o principal ambiente para a promoção formal da alfabetização e do letramento, os quais são portas para o mundo da leitura. Porém, com a ocorrência da pandemia do COVID-19, as atividades pedagógicas tiveram que ser suspensas ou adaptadas ao modelo remoto, acarretando prejuízos a todos os alunos, e principalmente àqueles que já apresentavam dificuldades escolares, especialmente as relacionadas à leitura. Sabe-se que a proficiência e o hábito de leitura são condições importantes para o desenvolvimento acadêmico geral. Estudos têm demonstrado que a aplicação de estratégias no contexto familiar e a utilização de plataformas digitais, com a finalidade de compartilhamento de leituras, são práticas favorecedoras do hábito leitor. Dessa forma, o presente estudo objetivou relatar as experiências da aplicação online de um procedimento de incentivo à leitura, em crianças com dificuldades escolares e seus respectivos responsáveis (seis díades), com a utilização de uma plataforma digital específica para compartilhamentos de leituras. Dentre os resultados obtidos estão: a mudança de comportamentos das crianças envolvidas para maior propensão a hábitos leitores, a mudança de atitudes diárias das mães no ambiente familiar para o incentivo à leitura, e a presença de comportamentos incentivadores por parte das mães, frente ao compartilhamento de leituras de seus filhos. ABSTRACT Two investigations were developed. The first experiment was to determine the metabolizability of Moringa (Moringa oleifera) leaf meal. 120 slow-growing, 21-day-old chickens were used. The experimental period was seven days, four for adaptation to diets and three for collection of excreta. The Moringa leaf presented values for apparent metabolizability coefficients of dry matter, crude protein, crude energy and neutral detergent fiber, as well as apparent metabolizable energy and corrected metabolizable energy for a nitrogen balance, of 49.77%, 44.48%, 46.26% and 53.02%, and 2,334 kcal/kg, 2,159 kcal/kg respectively. The second experiment was to evaluate the inclusion of Moringa leaf meal in the diets of two hundred and forty slow-growing chickens from one to 80 days of age on performance, carcass characteristics, biometrics of digestive organs and meat color. RESUMO Duas investigações foram desenvolvidas. O primeiro experimento foi para determinar a metabolizabilidade da farinha de folhas da moringa (Moringa oleifera), foram utilizadas 120 frangos de crescimento lento com 21 dias de idade, o período experimental foi de sete dias, quatro para adaptação às dietas e três para coleta de excretas; a folha de moringa apresentou valores para coeficientes de metabolizabilidade aparente de matéria seca, proteína bruta, energia bruta e fibra em detergente neutro, e energia metabolizável aparente, e energia metabolizável corrigida para balanço de nitrogênio de 49.77%, 44.48%, 46.26% e 53.02% e 2,334 kcal/kg, 2,159 kcal/kg, respectivamente. ABSTRACT Objective: To perform a cross-cultural adaptation and assess the content validity of the Neonatal Medical Index (NMI) for the Brazilian context. Methods: The cross-cultural adaptation was completed in six steps, including translation, synthesis of translations, back translation, submission to an expert committee, testing of the prefinal version, and appraisal by the original author. The expert committee assessed the equivalence between versions based on the percentage of agreement, and content validity was evaluated using the content validity index (CVI) for each item of the scale (I-CVI) and for the overall scale (S-CVI) in terms of representativeness and clarity. Participants of the prefinal version also evaluated the CVI for clarity. Results: After two evaluation rounds of the expert committee it was attained 98% agreement, attesting to the equivalence between the instrument versions, maximum values for representativeness I-CVI and S-CVI/Ave (1.00), and high values for clarity I-CVI (all items ≥0.97) and S-CVI/Ave (0.98). The expert committee members defined that the Brazilian version of the instrument would be called Índice Clínico Neonatal (NMI-Br). The NMI-Br reached high values of CVI for clarity (all I-CVI ≥0.86 and S-CVI/Ave=0.99) among the participants of the prefinal version. Conclusions: The NMI-Br is the Brazilian version of the NMI, obtained in a rigorous cross-cultural validation process, counting with adequate values of content validity. RESUMO Objetivo: Realizar a adaptação transcultural e avaliar a validade de conteúdo do Neonatal Medical Index (NMI) para o contexto brasileiro. Métodos: A adaptação transcultural foi realizada em seis etapas, incluindo tradução, síntese das traduções, retrotradução, submissão a um comitê de especialistas, teste da versão pré-final e avaliação do autor original. O comitê de especialistas avaliou a equivalência entre as versões com base na porcentagem de concordância, e a validade de conteúdo foi avaliada por meio do índice de validade de conteúdo (IVC) para cada item da escala (I-IVC) e para a escala geral (S-IVC) em termos de representatividade e clareza. Os participantes da versão pré-final também avaliaram o IVC quanto à clareza. ABSTRACT Twice-exceptionality is characterized as the presence of high performance concomitantly with deficiencies or incompatible conditions. An example is when giftedness manifest associated with neurodevelopmental disorders. This study is a clinical case report referring to the evaluative and interventional process of a 9- year-old child with the paradoxical combination of giftedness associated with dyslexia. It aims to compare the performance in phonological processing, reading and writing before and after phonological remediation. In the first assessment, the child demonstrated alphabetic level in reading, a transition phase between syllabic-alphabetic and alphabetical writing levels, and below-expected performance in phonological processing skills. After intervention, the results showed consistent improvements in phonological processing, the consolidation of alphabetical writing and orthographic reading level. In general, children with isolated dyslexia have persistent difficulties in several skills after intervention. The evolution shown after phonological remediation, especially at reading level, shows different characteristics than expected. Thus, it can be concluded that twice-exceptionality may have favored the overcoming of some of the shown difficulties more successfully. Studies on these combined conditions can contribute to a better understanding of this framework during the development of learning and to formulate specialized interventions. RESUMO A dupla-excepcionalidade é caracterizada pela presença de alto desempenho concomitante a deficiências ou condições incompatíveis, como é o caso de altas habilidades associadas a transtornos do neurodesenvolvimento. Esse estudo é um relato de caso clínico referente ao processo avaliativo e interventivo de uma criança de 9 anos com a combinação paradoxal de altas habilidades associadas à dislexia. O objetivo foi comparar o desempenho nas tarefas de processamento fonológico, leitura e escrita pré e pós remediação fonológica. Na primeira avaliação, a criança apresentou nível alfabético na leitura, fase de transição entre os níveis silábico-alfabético e alfabético na escrita e desempenho abaixo do esperado nas habilidades do processamento fonológico. Após a intervenção, houve melhora em habilidades do processamento fonológico, consolidação da escrita alfabética e do nível ortográfico de leitura. Em geral, crianças com dislexia isolada apresentam dificuldades persistentes em várias habilidades após intervenção. A evolução demonstrada após a remediação fonológica, principalmente no nível de leitura, mostra características diferentes do esperado. Assim, pode-se concluir que a dupla-excepcionalidade pode ter favorecido a superação de algumas de suas dificuldades de forma mais exitosa. Abstract: The influenza-like illness (ILI) sentinel surveillance operates in Brazil to identify respiratory viruses of public health relevance circulating in the country and was first implemented in 2000. Recently, the COVID-19 pandemic reinforced the importance of early detection of the circulation of new viruses in Brazil. Therefore, an analysis of the design of the ILI sentinel surveillance is timely. To this end, we simulated a sentinel surveillance network, identifying the municipalities that would be part of the network according to the criteria defined in the design of the ILI sentinel surveillance and, based on data from tested cases of severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) from 2014 to 2019, we drew samples for each sentinel municipality per epidemiological week. The draw was performed 1,000 times, obtaining the median and 95% quantile interval (95%QI) of virus positivity by Federative Unit and epidemiological week. According to the ILI sentinel surveillance design criteria, sentinel units would be in 64 municipalities, distributed mainly in capitals and their metropolitan areas, recommending 690 weekly samples. The design showed good sensitivity (91.65% considering the 95%QI) for qualitatively detecting respiratory viruses, even those with low circulation. However, there was important uncertainty in the quantitative estimate of positivity, reaching at least 20% in 11.34% of estimates. The results presented here aim to assist in evaluating and updating the ILI sentinel surveillance design. Strategies to reduce uncertainty in positivity estimates need to be evaluated, as does the need for greater spatial coverage. Resumen: La vigilancia centinela de la enfermedad tipo infuenza (ETI) funciona en Brasil para identificar los virus respiratorios de importancia para la salud pública que circulan en el país y comenzó a ser implementada en 2000. Recientemente, la pandemia de COVID-19 ha reforzado la importancia de la detección temprana de la circulación de nuevos virus en el territorio brasileño. Así, se hace oportuno un análisis del diseño de la vigilancia centinela de la ETI. Para ello, simulamos una red centinela identificando los municipios que formarían parte de la red según los criterios definidos en el diseño de la vigilancia centinela de la ETI y, a partir de los datos de casos testados de infección respiratoria aguda grave (IRAG) de 2014 a 2019, se extrajeron muestras para cada municipio centinela por semana epidemiológica. El sorteo se repitió 1.000 veces y se obtuvo la mediana y el intervalo cuantílico del 95% (IC95%) de la positividad por virus, por Unidad Federativa y semana epidemiológica. Resumo: A vigilância sentinela de síndrome gripal atua no Brasil identificando os vírus respiratórios de importância para a saúde pública circulantes no país, e começou a ser implementada em 2000. Recentemente, a pandemia de COVID-19 reforçou a importância da detecção precoce de novos vírus em circulação no território brasileiro. Assim, se faz oportuna uma análise do desenho da vigilância sentinela de síndrome gripal. Para tal, simulamos uma rede sentinela, identificando os municípios que fariam parte da rede segundo os critérios definidos no desenho da vigilância sentinela de síndrome gripal, e, a partir dos dados de casos testados de síndrome respiratória aguda grave (SRAG) de 2014 a 2019, sorteamos amostras para cada município sentinela por semana epidemiológica. O sorteio foi repetido mil vezes, obtendo-se a mediana e intervalo quantílico de 95% (IQ95%) da positividade para cada vírus por Unidade Federativa e semana epidemiológica. Segundo os critérios do desenho da vigilância sentinela de síndrome gripal, unidades sentinelas estariam em 64 municípios, distribuídas principalmente em capitais e suas zonas metropolitanas, o que preconizou 690 amostras semanais. O desenho apresentou boa sensibilidade (total de 91,65%, considerando o IQ95%) para a detecção qualitativa dos vírus respiratórios, mesmo os de baixa circulação. Porém, houve importante incerteza na estimativa quantitativa de positividade, chegando a, pelo menos, 20% em 11,34% das estimativas. Os resultados aqui apresentados visam auxiliar a avaliação e a atualização do desenho da rede sentinela. Estratégias para reduzir a incerteza nas estimativas de positividade precisam ser avaliadas, assim como a necessidade de maior cobertura espacial. ABSTRACT: The article aims to present a semantic-pragmatic proposal for the expression ‘se pá’, characteristic of the speech of younger communities in Brazil. In written texts, such as whatsapp or X, it appears spelled in different ways: ‘cepá’, ‘sepá’, ‘cpá’ and etc... We argue that it is a compositional expression, in which ‘se’ (‘if’) is the conditional conjunction and the ‘pá’ takes the place of the antecedent. We initially argue that we are not facing a possibility operator like ‘talvez’ (‘maybe’), but an indicative conditional, since it does not combine with forms of the verb in the subjunctive. We show, relying on Potts (2007), that ‘pá’ carries expressiveness, conveying the subjective position of the speaker. For the semantics, we start from Kratzer’s (2012) proposal for conditionals in which the ‘se’ (‘if’) indicates that the restriction of universal quantification, which is implicit, is given by the antecedent. The antecedent is occupied by ‘pá’, which is the proposition that contains what is the normal course of events. The modal base is epistemic; the worlds accessible are those that share the facts with the evaluation world, which is the actual world; those worlds are ordered according to normalcy. The ‘pá’ is the proposition that summarizes the normal conditions. Thus, the speaker indicates that if everything is normal, the consequence will follow. Therefore, not only is he inclined in the direction of the consequent, but the expressiveness of the expression conveys that the speaker is emotionally inclined in that direction. RESUMO: Este artigo apresenta uma proposta semântico-pragmática para a expressão ‘se pá’, característica da fala de comunidades mais jovens no Brasil. Em textos escritos, como whatsapp ou X, aparece grafada de maneiras distintas: ‘cepá’, 'sepá’, 'cpá’ e etc. Trata-se de uma expressão idiomática, em que as partes dão uma contribuição composicional: o ‘se’ é a conjunção condicional e o ‘pá’ ocupa o lugar da sentença antecedente. Defendemos que não estamos diante de um operador de possibilidade como ‘talvez’, pois só se combina com o modo indicativo. Mostramos que a expressão se comporta como um condicional indicativo, já que não se combina com formas do verbo no subjuntivo. Mostramos que o ‘pá’ carrega expressividade (Potts, 2007), veiculando a posição subjetiva do falante. Para a semântica, partimos de Kratzer (2012) para os condicionais indicativos nus, em que o ‘se’ indica a restrição da quantificação universal, que é implícita, aos mundos compatíveis com os descritos pelo antecedente. ABSTRACT Objective: to assess multidisciplinary team professionals’ knowledge, attitude and practice regarding pain management in newborns admitted to a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Method: this is a quantitative descriptive study of the Knowledge, Attitude and Practice survey type, developed with 37 healthcare professionals in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of a university hospital in southern Brazil, which adopts the Kangaroo Method as a basis of care. Results: in the knowledge item, the majority of professionals recognized that pain is present in newborns (94.6%) and there was a unanimous understanding that, when not treated properly, can cause short and long-term consequences (100.0%). In their attitude, they recognize that all professionals are responsible for pain management (100.0%) and that they should prioritize it over invasive procedures (97.3%). In practice, professionals assess pain or use an assessment scale (97.3%) and perform this practice when checking vital signs or performing a physical examination (94.6%). However, there was a lower proportion of professionals who considered analgesia necessary when carrying out daily procedures such as changing diapers, weighing and checking vital signs (48.6%) or who recorded pain assessments (67.6%) or pain management in medical records (56.8%). Conclusion: professionals recognize newborn pain, value management and apply measures to prevent and treat pain in invasive procedures. However, advances are needed in records as well as the incorporation of management into less complex daily procedures. RESUMO Objetivo: avaliar o conhecimento, atitude e prática dos profissionais da equipe multiprofissional sobre o manejo da dor no recém-nascido internado em Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal. Método: estudo quantitativo descritivo do tipo inquérito Conhecimento, Atitude e Prática, desenvolvido com 37 profissionais de saúde em uma Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal de um hospital universitário na Região Sul do Brasil, que adota o Método Canguru como base de assistência. Resultados: no item conhecimento, a maioria dos profissionais reconheceu que a dor está presente nos recém-nascidos (94,6%) e foi unânime a compreensão de que, quando não tratada adequadamente, pode causar consequências a curto e longo prazo (100,0%). Na atitude, reconhecem que todos os profissionais são responsáveis pelo manejo da dor (100,0%) e que devem priorizá-lo diante de procedimentos invasivos (97,3%). RESUMEN Objetivo: evaluar el conocimiento, actitud y práctica de los profesionales del equipo multidisciplinario sobre el manejo del dolor en el recién nacido ingresado en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Neonatales. Método: estudio descriptivo cuantitativo del tipo encuesta de Conocimientos, Actitudes y Prácticas, desarrollado con 37 profesionales de la salud en una Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Neonatales de un hospital universitario de la Región Sur de Brasil, que adopta el Método Canguro como base de atención. RESUMEN Objetivos: describir el proceso metodológico de adaptación transcultural de la Escala de Rendimiento de Juego para Niños al portugués brasileño. Métodos: estudio metodológico de traducción y adaptación transcultural en seis etapas: traducción, síntesis de traducciones, retrotraducción, evaluación por un comité de jueces, evaluación por enfermeros especialistas y pretest. La concordancia y representatividad de los ítems se evaluaron mediante el índice de validez de contenido. Se consideró un valor mínimo del 80% de concordancia. Resultados: todas las etapas del proceso de traducción y adaptación transcultural fueron satisfactorias. En la evaluación realizada por el comité de jueces, todos los ítems obtuvieron una concordancia superior al 80%. Quince enfermeros pediatras realizaron la validación de contenido, sugiriendo modificaciones necesarias para la comprensión y aplicación. Treinta niños y adolescentes con cáncer fueron evaluados con la escala para el pretest. Conclusiones: la escala fue adaptada transculturalmente al portugués brasileño. ABSTRACT Objectives: to describe the methodological process of cross-cultural adaptation of the PlayPerformance Scale for Children to Brazilian Portuguese. Methods: methodological study of translation and cross-cultural adaptation in six stages: translation, synthesis of translations, back-translation, evaluation by a committee of judges, evaluation by expert nurses, and pretest. The agreement and representativeness of the items were assessed using the content validity index. A minimum value of 80% agreement was considered. ABSTRACT Objective To compare two methods for defining and classifying the severity of pediatric acute respiratory distress syndrome: the Berlin classification, which uses the relationship between the partial pressure of oxygen and the fraction of inspired oxygen, and the classification of the Pediatric Acute Lung Injury Consensus Conference, which uses the oxygenation index. Methods This was a prospective study of patients aged 0 - 18 years with a diagnosis of acute respiratory distress syndrome who were invasively mechanically ventilated and provided one to three arterial blood gas samples, totaling 140 valid measurements. These measures were evaluated for correlation using the Spearman test and agreement using the kappa coefficient between the two classifications, initially using the general population of the study and then subdividing it into patients with and without bronchospasm and those with and without the use of neuromuscular blockers. The effect of these two factors (bronchospasm and neuromuscular blocking agent) separately and together on both classifications was also assessed using two-way analysis of variance. Results In the general population, who were 54 patients aged 0 - 18 years a strong negative correlation was found by Spearman’s test (ρ -0.91; p < 0.001), and strong agreement was found by the kappa coefficient (0.62; p < 0.001) in the comparison between Berlin and Pediatric Acute Lung Injury Consensus Conference. In the populations with and without bronchospasm and who did and did not use neuromuscular blockers, the correlation coefficients were similar to those of the general population, though among patients not using neuromuscular blockers, there was greater agreement between the classifications than for patients using neuromuscular blockers (kappa 0.67 versus 0.56, p < 0.001 for both). Neuromuscular blockers had a significant effect on the relationship between the partial pressure of oxygen and the fraction of inspired oxygen (analysis of variance; F: 12.9; p < 0.001) and the oxygenation index (analysis of variance; F: 8.3; p = 0.004). Conclusion There was a strong correlation and agreement between the two classifications in the general population and in the subgroups studied. RESUMO Objetivo Comparar dois métodos para definição e classificação de gravidade na síndrome do desconforto respiratório agudo pediátrica: a classificação de Berlim, que utiliza a relação entre pressão parcial de oxigênio e fração inspirada de oxigênio e a classificação do Pediatric Acute Lung Injury Consensus Conference, que utiliza o índice de oxigenação. Resultados Na população geral, composta de 54 pacientes com idades de 0 - 18 anos, foi encontrada forte correlação negativa pelo teste de Spearman (ρ -0,91; p < 0,001) e forte concordância pelo coeficiente kappa (0,62; p < 0,001) na comparação entre Berlim e Pediatric Acute Lung Injury Consensus Conference. Nas populações com e sem broncoespasmo e com e sem o uso do bloqueador neuromuscular, os coeficientes de correlação mantiveram valores semelhantes aos da população geral. Entretanto, para os pacientes sem uso do bloqueador neuromuscular, houve maior concordância entre as classificações em relação aos pacientes com uso do bloqueador neuromuscular (kappa 0,67 versus 0,56 com p < 0,001 em ambos). Acrescenta-se ainda o efeito significativo do uso do bloqueador neuromuscular sobre a relação entre pressão parcial de oxigênio e fração inspirada de oxigênio (análise de variância; F: 12,9; p < 0,001) e o índice de oxigenação (análise de variância; F: 8,3; p = 0,004). Abstract Increasing habitat modification and species loss demand consistent efforts to describe and understand biodiversity patterns. The BIOTA/FAPESP Program was created in this context and it has been a successful initiative to promote studies on biodiversity and conservation in Brazil. The BIOTA/Araçá is an interdisciplinary project that provided a detailed evaluation of the biodiversity of Araçá Bay, a coastal seascape located on the North coast of the state of São Paulo, Southeast Brazil. The bay encompasses multiple habitats, such as beaches, mangroves, rocky shores, and a tidal flat, and provides important ecosystem services. Unfortunately, the bay is the subject of complex social-environmental conflicts that oppose economic, social, and environmental demands (i.e., the expansion of neighboring harbor activities vs. small-scale artisanal fisheries and protection of biodiversity). The present study presents a survey of the benthic species occurring in the different habitats of Araçá Bay, including data obtained during the BIOTA/Araçá project and previous assessments of the area. The benthic species play an important role in marine environments and studying the diversity of these organisms that live associated with the bottom is indispensable for comprehending the environment’s functioning. The macrofauna, meiofauna, and microorganisms associated with soft and hard bottom were listed, and additional information, such as the habitat and geographical distribution, were provided for each species. The checklist includes 826 species, almost 70% recorded during the BIOTA/Araçá project. The most speciose taxa were the annelids (225 spp.), mollusks (194 spp.), and crustaceans (177 spp.). Seven benthic species are endemic to Araçá Bay, 14 are considered threatened, and seven are economically exploited. Furthermore, the bay is the type locality of many taxa, and 11 new benthic species were described based on specimens sampled during the project. Resumo O aumento da modificação dos habitats e da perda de espécies demanda esforços consistentes para descrever e compreender os padrões de biodiversidade. O programa BIOTA/FAPESP foi criado nesse contexto e é uma iniciativa de sucesso para promover estudos em biodiversidade e conservação no Brasil. O BIOTA/Araçá é um projeto interdisciplinar que promoveu uma avaliação detalhada da biodiversidade da Baía do Araçá, um ecossistema costeiro localizado ao Norte do estado de São Paulo, Sudeste do Brasil. A baía engloba múltiplos habitats, tais como praias, manguezais, costões rochosos, e uma planície de maré, e também fornece importantes serviços ecossistêmicos. Infelizmente, a baía está sujeita à conflitos sócio-ambientais complexos que contrastam demandas econômicas, sociais e ambientais (i.e. a expansão das atividades do porto vizinho vs. a pesca artesanal de pequena escala e a proteção da biodiversidade). O presente estudo apresenta um levantamento das espécies bentônicas que ocorrem nos diferentes habitats da Baía do Araçá, incluindo dados obtidos durante o projeto BIOTA/Araçá e de investigações realizadas anteriormente na área. As espécies bentônicas desempenham um papel importante no ambiente marinho, e estudar a diversidade desses organismos que vivem associados ao fundo é indispensável para compreender o funcionamento do meio ambiente. A macrofauna, meiofauna, e microorganismos associados aos fundos consolidado e inconsolidado foram listados, e informações adicionais foram fornecidas para cada espécie, tais como a distribuição geográfica e nos habitats. O checklist inclui 826 espécies, quase 70% registradas durante o projeto BIOTA/Araçá. Os taxa mais especiosos foram os anelídeos (225 spp.), moluscos (194 spp.), e crustáceos (177 spp.). ABSTRACT Nonketotic hyperglycemia may occur as a cause of chorea in patients with chronic decompensated diabetes. Because it is rare and consequently poorly studied, diagnosis and treatment can be delayed. Therefore, our objective was to summarize clinical and radiological features, as well as treatments performed, from previously reported cases to facilitate adequate management in clinical practice. We searched MEDLINE/PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane, CINAHL, Web of Science, Scopus, and LILACS databases for studies published before April 23, 2021. We included case reports and case series of adults (aged ≥ 18 years) that described hyperglycemic chorea with measurement of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and cranial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Studies were excluded if participants were pregnant women, aged < 18 years, and had no description of chorea and/or physical examination. We found 121 studies that met the inclusion criteria, for a total of 214 cases. The majority of the included studies were published in Asia (67.3%). Most patients were women (65.3%) aged > 65 years (67.3%). Almost all patients had decompensated diabetes upon arrival at the emergency department (97.2%). The most common MRI finding was abnormalities of the basal ganglia (89.2%). There was no difference in patient recovery between treatment with insulin alone and in combination with other medications.
