Abstract Fibrinolytic enzymes are considered promising alternative in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases by preventing fibrin clots. A protease from Mucor subtilissimus UCP 1262 was obtained by solid state fermentation and purified by ion exchange chromatography. The purified extract was administered at an acute dose of 2000 mg/mL to evaluate its toxic effects to the lungs of mice. After 14 days of treatment, a histomorphometric study was performed by the type 1 and 2 pneumocyte count and the evaluation of the lung area. As result, the experimental group showed a significant decrease of type 2 pneumocyte and although a decrease in the alveolar area was observed in relation to the control group, no significant pulmonary toxicity, emphysema, and fibrosis characteristics were detected. The in vitro tests suggest possible clinical applications for the enzyme.

RESUMO Objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar o efeito do primeiro desbaste sobre a morfometria de um plantio de Tectona grandis L.f. (teca). O delineamento experimental foi o de blocos ao acaso, com quatro tratamentos e três repetições sendo: T1 = testemunha (sem desbaste), T2, T3 e T4 = remoção da área basal de 20%, 30% e 40% respectivamente. As variáveis morfométricas avaliadas foram: proporção de copa (PC), índice de abrangência (IA), grau de esbeltez (GE), índice de saliência (IS), formal de copa (FC) e comprimento de copa (CC). A aplicação de desbastes em teca influenciou significativamente em todas as variáveis morfométricas avaliadas, com exceção de proporção de copa (PC) e índice de saliência (IS). As intensidades de desbastes (20%, 30% e 40%) não apresentaram diferença significativa para as variáveis: altura comercial do fuste (HF), comprimento de copa (CC), diâmetro de copa (DC), proporção de copa (PC) e forma de copa (FC) da Tectona grandis até o quarto ano pós-desbaste.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of first thinning on the morphometry of trees in a forest plantation of Tectona grandis Lf (teak). The experimental design used was randomized block with four treatments and three replications were: T1 = control treatment (no thinning), T2, T3 end T4 with the removal of basal area the 20, 30 and 40% respectively. The evaluated morphometric variables were: crown proportion (PC), coverage index (AI), slenderness degree (GE), salience index (IS), crown form (FC) and crown length (CC). The application of thinning in teak, significantly influenced in all morphometric variables analyzed, except for the proportion of room (PC) and the projection index (SI). The thinning intensities (20%, 30% and 40%) presented no significant differences for variables: commercial bole height (HF), crown length (CL), crown diameter (DC), crown proportion (PC) and crown form (FC) of teak to the fourth post-thinning year.

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar os aspectos da resposta imune do hospedeiro, mediante o uso de um modelo experimental de infecção de Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis (CP) em camundongos C57/Black6 do tipo selvagem e em C57/Black6 knockout para o óxido nítrico (KO-NO). Foram avaliados 28 camundongos: quatro controles de tipo selvagem; 10 do tipo selvagem infectados com CP; quatro controles KO-NO; e 10 KO-NO infectados com CP. A infecção foi realizada via intraperitoneal, usando-se 107. Os animais C57/Black6 KO-NO infectados começaram a vir a óbito no quinto dia pós-inoculação, o que aconteceu até o 14º dia. Um número maior de neutrófilos foi encontrado na sua cavidade peritoneal. O exame do baço revelou um acúmulo de linfócitos, predominantemente células T CD8, nos grupos de animais experimentais. Nos animais KO-NO, foi observada a presença de granulomas, sete dias pós-inoculação, principalmente nos gânglios linfáticos. Além disso, uma maior quantidade de bactérias foi detectada dos linfonodos mesentéricos desses animais. Não houve diferença estatisticamente significante nos níveis séricos IgG total e em suas subclasses aos 14 dias pós-inoculação nos grupos KO-NO e selvagem. Os resultados obtidos sugerem a importância do óxido nítrico no processo de controle da infecção por CP.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate aspects of host immune response using an experimental infection model of Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis (CP) in C57/Black6 wild-type and knockout for nitric oxide (KO-NO) mice. 28 mice were evaluated: 4 wild-type controls; 10 wild-type infected with CP; 4 KO-NO controls; 10 KO-NO infected with CP. Infection procedures were carried out by intraperitoneal inoculation using 107. Infected C57/Black6 KO-NO mice began to die after the 5° day post-inoculation, up until the 14º day. Neutrophils were found in increased numbers in the infiltrate of KO-NO murine peritoneal cavities. Examination of splenic tissue revealed an accumulation of lymphocytes, predominantly CD8 T-cells, in experimental animal groups. KO-NO animals were found to have a predominance of granulomas 7 days post-inoculation, primarily in the lymph nodes. In addition, greater amounts of bacteria were recovered from the mesenteric lymph nodes of KO-NO mice. There was no statistically significant difference in the levels of total IgG and its subclasses 14 days post-inoculation between KO-NO and wild groups. The results suggest the importance of nitric oxide in the process of controlling CP infection, as KO-NO animals were observed to be markedly more affected by infection with this bacterium.

O mamão é uma frutífera altamente consumida mundialmente. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a qualidade da muda de Carica papaya produzida com resíduos de pau de buriti (Mauritia flexuosa L.f.) (PaB). O experimento foi conduzido na Universidade Estadual do Piauí (UESPI), Corrente, PI. Adotou-se o delineamento inteiramente casualizado (DIC), constando de cinco tratamentos e seis repetições: t1 - solo (10 L); t2 - solo:pau de burití (10 L:1.5 L); t3 - solo:pau de burití (10 L:3 L); t4 - solo:pau de burití (10 L:4.5 L); t5 - solo:pau de burití (10 L:6 L). Os resultados foram submetidos ao teste F a p<0,01 de significância, para diagnóstico de efeito significativo. As variáveis analisadas foram: altura de plântula, diâmetro do caule, comprimento de raiz, número de folhas, área foliar total, massa seca da parte aérea, da raiz e matéria seca total, relação da altura de planta/diâmetro de caule e massa seca da parte aérea/massa seca de raiz e índice de qualidade de Dickson. A introdução de 30% de pau de buriti no substrato é o recomendado para produção de mudas de mamoeiro tipo “formosa”. O índice de qualidade de Dickson para o mamoeiro formosa é de 0,55 com 37,5% de pau de buriti.

Papaya is a fruit that is highly consumed worldwide. The objective of this work was to evaluate the quality of Carica papaya seedling with buriti (PaB) residue. The experiment was conducted at the State University of Piauí (UESPI), Corrente, PI. A completely randomized design (DIC) was used, consisting of five treatments and six replicates: T1 - soil (10 L); T2 - soil: burití wood (10 L: 1.5 L); T3 - soil: burití wood (10 L: 3 L); T4 - soil: burití wood (10 L: 4.5 L); T5 - soil: burití wood (10 L: 6 L). The results were submitted to the F test at p <0.01 of significance, for diagnosis of significant effect. The variables analyzed were: seedling height, stem diameter, root length, number of leaves, total leaf area, shoot dry mass, root and total dry matter, plant height / stem diameter ratio and dry mass of root shoot / root dry mass and Dickson quality index. The introduction of 30% buriti wood into the substrate is recommended for the production of "formosa" papaya seedlings. The Dickson quality index for papaya is 0.55 with 37.5% buriti stick.

RESUMO Neste trabalho, foi avaliada a prevalência das principais causas de condenação de fígado bovino em abatedouro frigorífico sob Serviço de Inspeção Federal, situado na Zona da Mata mineira. Para obtenção dos dados, foram consultadas fichas relativas ao movimento mensal de abate de bovinos e de causas de condenação, no período compreendido entre 2007 e 2013, no referido estabelecimento. Durante esse período, foram abatidos 150.752 bovinos, e a prevalência de condenação hepática entre os anos variou de 9,38% a 14,09%. As principais patologias envolvidas foram abscesso, telangiectasia e fasciolose, responsáveis por 32,03%, 29,20% e 21,95% das condenações, respectivamente. Além disso, foi observada tendência de redução na frequência de condenação por abscesso (3,26%) e telangiectasia (0,68%) ao ano e, em contraposição, aumento por fasciolose de 3,40% ao ano. Conclui-se que as patologias responsáveis pelas condenações de fígado bovino foram abscesso, telangiectasia e fasciolose e que a inspeção post mortem tem grande importância no monitoramento da saúde e da produção animal e na qualidade da carne a ser comercializada.

ABSTRACT The aim of the present study was to evaluate the frequency of the main causes for condemnation of bovine liver in an abattoir/cold store under the Federal Inspection Services, located in the Zona da Mata of the state of Minas Gerais, between 2007 and 2013. Study data was collated from forms containing information about the number of cattle slaughtered per month and the causes for liver condemnation at the studied abattoir. During the period under study, 150,752 cattle were slaughtered, and the frequency of liver condemnation varied between 9.38% and 14.09% from year to year. The main pathologies that led to liver condemnation were abscesses, telangiectasis, and fasciolosis, which were responsible for 32.03%, 29.20%, and 21.95% of the condemnations, respectively. The frequency of condemnation because of abscesses and telangiectasis showed a trend of decline, 3.26% and 0.68% per year, respectively. The frequency of condemnation because of fasciolosis, however, showed a trend of increase by 3.40% per year. This study shows the usefulness of post mortem inspection of animal health and production monitoring.

Introdução : O desempenho na tarefa de fluência de verbos (FV) pode ser influenciado pelo modo de administração e por fatores sócio-demográficos de cada população. Objetivo : Este estudo teve como objetivo verificar se a administração prévia das tarefas de fluência verbal (fluência semântica e fonêmica) poderia influenciar no desempenho da FV, assim como analisar a correlação da FV com escolaridade, idade e tipos de erros em Brasileiros idosos saudáveis. Métodos : Sessenta e dois participantes foram divididos em grupo experimental (fluências semântica e fonêmica foram aplicadas antes da FV) e em grupo controle (apenas a FV foi aplicada). O escore total e os tipos de erros da FV foram verificados. Informações adicionais foram consideradas para a análise de correlação. Resultados : Não houve diferença estatisticamente significativa entre os grupos experimental e controle quanto ao desempenho da FV. A FV se correlacionou positivamente com a escolaridade e negativamente com as intrusões. Conclusão : A falta de influência de outras tarefas de fluência verbal no desempenho da FV em indivíduos idosos permite o uso dessa ordem de administração. Uma forte influência da escolaridade sobre o desempenho da FV reforça a necessidade de estudos em diferentes populações.

Background : Performance on the verb fluency (VF) task may be influenced by administration procedures and demographic factors of each population. Objective : The aim of this study was to verify whether the previous administration of semantic and phonemic verbal fluency tasks can influence performance on VF; and to analyze the correlation of VF performance with education, age and type of errors in Brazilian healthy elderly. Methods : Sixty-two participants were subdivided into experimental (semantic and the phonemic fluency tasks were administered before the VF) and control groups (VF only). The total score and the types of errors on the VF task were determined. Additional information was computed for the correlational analysis. Results : VF performance did not differ statistically between experimental and control groups, but correlated positively with education and negatively with intrusions. Conclusion : The lack of influence of other verbal fluency tasks on performance of the VF task in elderly individuals allows the use of this order of administration. A strong influence of educational level on VF task performance reinforces the need for further studies in different populations.

Resumo Lecanodiaspis dendrobii Douglas, 1892 (Hemiptera: Coccoidea: Lecanodiaspididae) e o parasitoide associado Cephaleta sp. (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae) são registrados pela primeira vez no Brasil. Exemplares dessa cochonilha foram coletados sobre ramos e fustes de Acacia mangium Willd., Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) de Wit (Fabaceae), Morus nigra L. (Moraceae), Citrus reticulata Blanco (Rutaceae), Tectona grandis L.f. (Verbenaceae), Anacardium occidentale (Anacardiaceae), Annona squamosa L. e Xylopia aromatica (Lam.) Mart. (Annonaceae), em três municípios do Estado de Roraima. Todas as plantas aqui mencionadas são registradas pela primeira vez como hospedeiras de L. dendrobii. Caracteres morfológicos da cochonilha e sintomas das plantas hospedeiras infestadas por esta praga são incluídos neste trabalho.

Abstract Lecanodiaspis dendrobii Douglas, 1892 (Hemiptera: Coccoidea: Lecanodiaspididae) and the associated parasitoid Cephaleta sp. (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae) are reported for the first time in Brazil. Specimens of this scale insect were collected on branches and stems of Acacia mangium Willd., Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) de Wit (Fabaceae), Morus nigra L. (Moraceae), Citrus reticulata Blanco (Rutaceae), Tectona grandis L. f. (Verbenaceae), Anacardium occidentale (Anacardiaceae), Annona squamosa L. and Xylopia aromatica (Lam.) Mart. (Annonaceae), in three municipalities of the Roraima state. All plants here mentioned are recorded for the first time as a host for L. dendrobii. Morphological characters of L. dendrobii and symptoms presented by the host plants infested by this pest are included in this work.

Early nutrition plays a long-term role in the predisposition to chronic diseases and influences the metabolism of several drugs. This may happen through cytochromes P450 (CYPs) regulation, which are the main enzymes responsible for the metabolism of xenobiotics. Here, we analyzed the effects of maternal protein restriction (MPR) on the expression and activity of hepatic offspring’s CYPs during 90 days after birth, using Wistar rats as a mammal model. Hepatic CYP1A1, CYP1A2, CYP2B1, CYP2B2 and CYP2E1 mRNA and protein expression, and associated catalytic activities (ECOD, EROD, MROD, BROD, PROD and PNPH) were evaluated in 15-, 30-, 60-, and 90-day-old offspring from dams fed with either a 0% protein (MPR groups) or a standard diet (C groups) during the 10 first days of lactation. Results showed that most CYP genes were induced in 60- and 90-day-old MPR offspring. The inductions detected in MPR60 and MPR90 were of 5.0- and 2.0-fold (CYP1A2), 3.7- and 2.0-fold (CYP2B2) and 9.8- and 5.8– fold (CYP2E1), respectively, and a 3.8-fold increase of CYP2B1 in MPR90. No major alterations were detected in CYP protein expression. The most relevant CYP catalytic activities’ alterations were observed in EROD, BROD and PNPH. Nevertheless, they did not follow the same pattern observed for mRNA expression, except for an induction of EROD in MPR90 (3.5-fold) and of PNPH in MPR60 (2.2-fold). Together, these results suggest that MPR during lactation was capable of altering the expression and activity of the hepatic CYP enzymes evaluated in the offspring along development.

RESUMO A epididimite infecciosa ovina é uma das principais enfermidades reprodutivas de carneiros. O presente estudo teve por objetivo desenvolver protocolos de PCR em tempo real para B. ovis e H. somni e avaliar sua aplicabilidade em amostras de sêmen e urina de carneiros. Delinearam-se primers e sondas espécie-específicos para cada agente. As sondas foram delineadas com o sistema TaqMan incorporando um marcador FAM para B. ovis e Cy5 para H. somni na extremidade 5' e um quencher na extremidade 3'. A PCR em tempo real para B. ovis e H. somni foi altamente sensível, uma vez que a amplificação de DNA ocorreu com até 0,2ng de DNA/reação. A especificidade dos iniciadores e sondas foi avaliada com amostras de DNA de outros agentes causadores de epididimite ovina e nenhuma amplificação inespecífica foi observada. A aplicabilidade da técnica em amostras biológicas também foi confirmada, pois não houve perda de eficácia (P>0,05) quando comparada à PCR convencional com amostras de sêmen e urina de carneiros experimentalmente infectados.

Abstract This paper deals with the behaviour of welded "T" joints between RHS sections submitted to tension brace loading combined with chord axial loading. In the companion paper (part I) a finite element model and a study without axial load in the chord, focusing on the joint behaviour as a function of the significant geometrical variables, were presented. In this part II paper, tension loading on the brace is incremented up to the joint failure, but is combined with different chord load levels in tension or compression, that are kept constant for each case. The same geometries and geometric variables as in the companion paper are used, and therefore the influence of these features together with the chord load level (in tension or compression) on the connection's response is evaluated. The force-displacement curves from the different geometries and chord load levels are analysed and compared, with a special attention on the influence of the chord load on the joint resistance and stiffness. Finally, a comparison of the numerical results with the (Eurocode 3, 2005) and the newer (ISO 14346, 2013) provisions is presented and discussed.

Abstract This paper presents a study on the behaviour of welded "T" joints between RHS sections under brace axial loading. A finite element model was developed to investigate the influence of some geometrical variables on the joint's response. The brace load (always in tension) was incremented up to joint failure, while the chord was kept unloaded. In the companion paper (part II) a complementary study including chord axial loading is presented. The force-displacement curves corresponding to the different geometries are analyzed and compared, focusing on the failure loads and elastic stiffness. Different failure criteria are discussed and applied to the present curves and a comparison of the numerical results with the Eurocode 3 provisions is presented and discussed.

Resumo A ocorrência de mixomicetos em inflorescências de Heliconia psittacorum L.f. foi pesquisada em quatro unidades de conservação situadas no Nordeste do Brasil, visando avaliar a ocupação deste microhabitat em fragmentos de Floresta Atlântica, numa faixa altitudinal de 30-750 m. Foram examinadas partes mortas de inflorescências ainda presas à planta; flores e brácteas mortas foram colhidas para montagem de câmaras-úmidas (368). Foram registrados quatro famílias, quatro gêneros e 10 espécies. Evidenciou-se preferência para substrato com pH básico e predominância de espécies calcárias (5:1). A composição da mixobiota nos fragmentos de altitudes acima de 400 m foi semelhante e diferiu significativamente da encontrada nos fragmentos de florestas de terras baixas (<100 m). Physarum compressum e Arcyria cinerea são as espécies mais características da mixobiota estudada.

Abstract The occurrence of Myxomycetes in Heliconia psittacorum L.f. inflorescences was researched within four conservation units located in Northeast Brazil, aiming at evaluating the occupation of this microhabitat in fragments of Atlantic Forest along an altitude between 30-750 m. Inflorescences attached to the plant were examined; dead flowers and bracts were collected to assemble moist chambers (368). Four families, four genera and 10 species were recorded. A preference was evidenced for a basic pH substrate and a predominance of calcareous species (5:1). The composition of the myxobiota in fragments pertaining to altitudes above 400 m was similar and differed significantly from the one found in fragments of lowland forests (<100 m). Physarum compressum and Arcyria cinerea are the most characteristic species of the studied myxobiota.

Foram avaliados o consumo, as digestibilidades totais e ruminais e as taxas de digestão (kd) e de passagem (kp) ruminal dos nutrientes de dietas constituídas de cana-de-açúcar in naturae diferentes níveis de concentrado. Utilizaram-se cinco bovinos mestiços, fistulados no rúmen, com peso corporal inicial de 300±50kg, distribuídos em delineamento em quadrado latino 5x5. As dietas experimentais foram constituídas de: 1) 100% cana-de-açúcar in natura(CA); 2) 80% de CA + 20% de concentrado (C); 3) 60% de CA + 40% de C; 4) 40% de CA + 60% de C; e 5) 20% de CA + 80% de C. Os dados foram analisados utilizando-se o procedimento MIXED do SAS (versão 9.1), bem como análise de regressão e 5% como nível crítico de probabilidade para o erro tipo I. O consumo de matéria seca (MS), expresso em kg/dia ou g/kg de peso corporal foi influenciado (P<0,05) pelos níveis de concentrado. Os demais consumos calculados em kg/dia também foram influenciados (P<0,05) pelos níveis de concentrado, assim como os consumos de FDNcp, FDNi e NDT, expressos em g/kg de peso corporal. O pool (kg/dia) foi aumentado linearmente à medida que se elevaram os níveis de concentrado para MS. Comportamento similar foi observado para ki (h-1) da MS e da FDNcp. As taxas de digestão (kdh-1) da MS, da MO e da FDNcp aumentaram linearmente com a elevação dos níveis de concentrado na dieta. Estimaram-se máximos fluxos omasais (kg/dia) com 52,22 e 31,45% de concentrado na dieta, respectivamente, para MS e FDNi. A digestibilidade aparente (DA) da MS também foi influenciada pelos níveis de concentrado na dieta. As digestibilidades ruminais da MS e da FDN aumentaram linearmente (P<0,05) com a adição de níveis crescentes de concentrado. Conclui-se que níveis próximos de 65% de concentrado resultam em maior ingestão de energia em dietas contendo cana-de-açúcar.

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the feed intake, total and ruminal dietary component digestibility, ruminal digestion (kd) and passage rates (kp) of cattle fed sugarcane with different levels of concentrate. Five crossbred (Holstein x Zebu) with ruminal cannulas and initial body weight of 300±50kg were used in this experiment. Steers were assigned into a 5x5 Latin Square design balanced for residual effects. The experimental periods were divided into 16 d with 8 d for adaptation and 8 d for sample collection. Four treatments were used: 1) 100% fresh sugarcane (SC); 2) 80% SC + 20% concentrate (C); 3) 60% SC + 40% C; 4) 40% SC + 60% C; 5) 20% SC + 80% C. Urea/ammonium sulfate was used at 9:1 ratio to correct the protein level of sugarcane. A regression analysis was performed using the MIXED procedure. Dry matter intake (DMI) expressed either as kg/day or g/kg of BW was affected (P<0.05) by concentrate level and the maximum intake was estimated to be 63.61 and 75.04% of concentrate respectively. Intake (kg/day) of OM, CP, NDFap, TDN, iNDF, digestible NDFap (NDFapD), and NFC were affected by concentrate level (P<0.05) and their maximum intake was estimated to be 63.21; 63.78; 53.14; 64.31; 32.49; 88.47 e 55.46% of concentrate respectively. The ruminal pool size of DM and CP as well as ki (h-1) DM, CP, OM, NDFap, and NFC increased linearly as the dietary levels of concentrate increased. The ruminal digestion rate (kg h-1) of DM and NDFap as well as the passage rate (kg h-1) of CP increased linearly as the dietary levels of concentrate increased. The maximum omasal flux (kg/day) of DM and iNDF were estimated to be 52.22 and 31.45% of dietary concentrate respectively. Apparent digestibility of DM, EE, and NFC also increased linearly (P<0.05) with the increase of concentrate levels. Data suggest that levels up to 65% of concentrate result in greater energy intake by cattle fed sugarcane based diets.

Frutose se acumula em tecidos e líquidos corporais de pacientes afetados por intolerância hereditária à frutose (HFI), doença causada pela deficiência da aldolase B. Nós investigamos o efeito da administração aguda de frutose sobre o perfil bioquímico e as atividades das enzimas do ciclo de Krebs em córtex cerebral de ratos jovens. Os ratos receberam uma administração subcutânea de NaCl (0,9 %; grupo controle) ou solução de frutose (5 μmol/g; grupo tratado). Doze ou 24 horas após a administração, os animais sofreram eutanásia e os córtices cerebrais foram isolados. Também foram coletados sangue periférico (para obtenção de soro) e líquido cefalorraquidiano (LCR) dos animais. Foi observado que os níveis de albumina diminuíram e os níveis de colesterol aumentaram no LCR dos animais 12 horas após a administração de frutose. Adicionalmente, os níveis séricos de lactato aumentaram 12 h após a administração, em comparação como grupo controle. Além disso, a atividade da malato desidrogenase aumentou no córtex cerebral do grupo tratado 24 h após administração deste carboidrato. No presente trabalho, demonstramos que a administração de frutose altera parâmetros bioquímicos em LCR e soro, bem como parâmetros bioenergéticos em córtex cerebral. Tais achados sugerem um papel para a frutose nas alterações cerebrais encontradas em pacientes com HFI.

Fructose accumulates in tissue and body fluids of patients affected by hereditary fructose intolerance (HFI), a disorder caused by the deficiency of aldolase B. We investigated the effect of acute fructose administration on the biochemical profile and on the activities of the Krebs cycle enzymes in the cerebral cortex of young rats. Rats received a subcutaneous injection of NaCl (0.9 %; control group) or fructose solution (5 μmol/g; treated group). Twelve or 24 h after the administration, the animals were euthanized and the cerebral cortices were isolated. Peripheral blood (to obtain the serum) and cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) from the animals were also collected. It was observed that albumin levels were decreased and cholesterol levels were increased in CSF of animals 12 h after the administration of fructose. In addition, serum lactate levels were increased 12 h after the administration, as compared to control group. Furthermore, malate dehydrogenase activity was increased in cerebral cortex from treated group 24 h after the administration of this carbohydrate. Herein we demonstrate that fructose administration alters biochemical parameters in CSF and serum and bioenergetics parameters in the cerebral cortex. These findings indicate a possible role of fructose on brain alterations found in HFI patients.

RESUMO A Fluência de Ações (FA) e a Nomeação de Ações (NA) são diferentes tarefas que exigem geração de verbos. Evidências indicam que tarefas que utilizam verbos fornecem informações diferentes daquelas que utilizam substantivos. Objetivo: Este estudo objetivou analisar a informação disponível na literatura científica sobre mecanismos e aplicações clínicas destas tarefas. Métodos: Foi realizada uma revisão de literatura sistemática e os achados foram apresentados de acordo com estudos clínicos e de neuroimagem, e de acordo com o tipo de tarefa em questão. Resultados: A literatura apresentou estudos diversificados sobre o assunto, com diferentes objetivos, metodologias e populações. Após análise dos dados (com critérios de exclusão) dos estudos obtidos na busca, apenas 40 estudos foram incluídos nesta revisão. Conclusão: Foi possível concluir que FA e NA envolvem diferentes áreas cerebrais, embora envolvam áreas e circuitos frontais, outras áreas também são críticas. Tais tarefas podem ser importantes na diferenciação das Afasias Progressivas Primárias; a FA pode ser uma nova medida de funções executivas; e, finalmente, ambos podem ser usados para permitir um melhor entendimento de processos cognitivos e de determinadas doenças.

ABSTRACT The Action Fluency (AF) and Action Naming (AN) are different tasks involving verb generation. Evidence indicates that verb tasks yield different information from that obtained with nouns. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the information available in the scientific literature on the mechanism and clinical application of these tasks. Methods: We carried out a systematic review of the literature and the findings were presented according to clinical studies and neuroimaging studies, and to the task in question. Results: The literature contained a variety of relevant studies with different objectives, methodologies and populations. After the analysis (exclusion criteria) of the studies obtained by the search terms, only 40 studies were included in this review. Conclusion: It was possible to conclude that AF and AN involve different brain processes, and although recruiting frontal areas and circuits, other areas are also critical. These tasks may be useful for differentiating Primary Progressive Aphasias; AF might represent a new measure of executive function; finally, both these tests can be used to provide a better understanding of cognitive processes and certain diseases.
