Pyricularia oryzae Triticum (PoT) is known to survive in wheat seeds and this condition favors its spread. There are, however, many gaps in knowledge regarding the damage caused by this pathogen in relation to the establishment and sanity of wheat seedlings. The objective of this study was to determine whether there is a correlation between incidence of PoT in wheat seeds and variables associated with the establishment and the sanity of the produced seedlings. Seven samples of wheat seeds naturally infected with the pathogen were used. The incidence of PoT in each of the seed samples was determined via the Blotter test, indicating a variation from 0 to 80.5%. The seeds of each sample were sown in 500 mL plastic pots containing autoclaved sand and the seedlings produced were evaluated in relation to the following aspects; emergency, height, lesions in different segments, mortality, abnormalities and transmissibility of symptoms. The study demonstrated that there is a correlation between incidence of PoT in wheat seeds and the following variables related to the seedlings produced; height at 7 days after sowing (DAS), incidence and severity of symptoms at 7, 14 and 21 DAS, and mortality at 14 and 21 DAS. The results confirmed that the establishment and sanity of wheat seedlings directly depend on incidence of PoT in the seeds.

Sabe-se que Pyricularia oryzae Triticum (PoT) sobrevive nas sementes de trigo e esta condição favorece sua disseminação. Há, porém, muitas lacunas no conhecimento relativo aos danos causados por este patógeno em relação ao estabelecimento e à sanidade das plântulas de trigo. O objetivo do trabalho foi verificar se existe correlação entre incidência de PoT em sementes de trigo e variáveis associadas ao estabelecimento e à sanidade das plântulas geradas. Foram utilizadas sete amostras de sementes de trigo naturalmente infectadas com o patógeno. A incidência de PoT em cada uma das amostras de sementes foi determinada via Blotter test indicando variação de 0 a 80,5%. As sementes de cada amostra foram semeadas em copos plásticos de 500 mL contendo areia autoclavada e as plântulas produzidas foram avaliadas em relação aos seguintes aspectos; emergência, altura, lesões em diferentes segmentos, mortalidade, anormalidades e transmissibilidade de sintomas. O estudo demonstrou que existe correlação entre a incidência de PoT em sementes de trigo e as seguintes variáveis relativas às plântulas produzidas; altura aos 7 dias após a semeadura (DAS), incidência e severidade de sintomas aos 7, 14 e 21 DAS, e mortalidade aos 14 e 21 DAS. Os resultados confirmaram que o estabelecimento e a sanidade das plântulas de trigo dependem diretamente da incidência de PoT nas sementes.

RESUMO: Neste estudo Pyricularia spp., P. oryzae e o patótipo Triticum (PoT) de P. oryzae foram detectados e identificados em segmentos foliares de forrageiras e gramíneas invasoras de lavouras de trigo. Em 2018 e 2019, foram coletadas 66 amostras de segmentos foliares lesionados de Urochloa e outras gramíneas em Londrina (PR), Patos de Minas (MG) e Uberaba (MG). A detecção e/ou identificação dos patógenos nas amostras foi realizada por meio de procedimentos de câmara úmida e com os iniciadores MoT3 e Pot2 por PCR. Houve amplificações de DNA com o primer MoT3 (específico para PoT) em 13 (19,69%) das amostras, todas provenientes da Urochloa. O resultado de que Urochloa hospeda PoT em uma taxa relativamente alta levanta preocupações sobre a importância que essas plantas podem ter no ciclo de brusone do trigo como hospedeiro intermediário para o patógeno e / ou fonte de inóculo para a doença.

ABSTRACT: In this study Pyricularia spp., P. oryzae and the P. oryzae pathotype Triticum (PoT) were detected and identified in leaf segments of forage and invasive grasses located in or next to wheat fields. In 2018 and 2019, 66 samples of lesion leaf segments of Urochloa and other grasses were collected in Londrina (PR), Patos de Minas (MG), and Uberaba (MG). The detection and/or identification of the pathogens on the samples was conducted using moist chamber procedures and with the primers MoT3 and Pot2 by PCR. There were DNA amplification with the primer MoT3 (specific for PoT) for 13 (19.69%) of the samples, all of them from Urochloa. The finding that Urochloa hosts PoT at a relatively high rate raises concerns about the importance which these plants may have on the wheat blast cycle as an alternative host for the pathogen and/or source of inoculum for the disease.

RESUMO: O primeiro relato da brusone do trigo no mundo foi no Brasil, em 1986. Desde então, tem-se realizado um esforço muito grande com vistas ao desenvolvimento de cultivares de trigo resistentes a esta doença, a qual é causada pelo fungo Pyricularia oryzae Triticum (PoT). O objetivo deste trabalho foi de (i) avaliar a resistência de genótipos de trigo à brusone e (ii) verificar a correlação entre severidade da doença em espigas e taxa de esporulação de PoT em ráquis de espigas. Plantas de 40 cultivares brasileiras de trigo crescidas em vasos, no estádio de florescimento (estádio 65 da escala de Zadoks), foram submetidas à inoculação com uma suspensão de conídios de um isolado de PoT representativo da principal variante do fungo encontrada no Brasil. A severidade de brusone nas espigas aos cinco e sete dias após a inoculação (dai) e a taxa de esporulação do fungo nas ráquis (conídios por g de ráquis) foram avaliadas. Oitenta por cento das cultivares que foram classificadas no grupo com menor taxa de esporulação também foram classificadas no grupo de maior resistência aos sete dai. Entretanto, os coeficientes de correlação da análise estabelecida entre as médias de severidade das cultivares aos cinco e sete dai e as médias da taxa de esporulação de PoT não foram significativos (r=0,2464 e r=0,2047, respectivamente). Os resultados obtidos representam a caracterização atualizada da reação à brusone de cultivares de trigo do Brasil e constituem-se em importante marco exploratório da avaliação da reação de genótipos de trigo baseado na taxa de esporulação de PoT em seus tecidos.

ABSTRACT: The first report of wheat blast in the world was in Brazil, in 1986. Since then, a great effort has been made towards the development of wheat cultivars resistant to this disease, which is caused by the fungus Pyricularia oryzae Triticum (PoT). The objective of this research was to (i) evaluate the resistance of wheat genotypes to blast and (ii) verify the correlation between disease severity on wheat spikes and sporulation rate of PoT on spike rachises. Plants of 40 cultivars grown in pots, at the flowering stage (stage 65 on the Zadoks scale), were inoculated with a suspension of conidia of a PoT isolate representative of the main variant of the fungus reported in Brazil. Severity of blast on the spikes at 5 and 7 days after inoculation (dai) and the rate of sporulation of the fungus on the rachis (conidia per g of rachis) were evaluated. Eighty percent of the cultivars that were classified in the group with the lowest sporulation rate were also classified in the group with the highest resistance at 7 dai. However, the correlation coefficients of the analysis established between the cultivar severity at 5 and 7 dai averages and the PoT sporulation rate averages were not significant (r=0.2464 and r=0.2047, respectively). Results obtained represent the updated characterization to blast of wheat cultivars in Brazil and constitute an important exploratory framework for the evaluation of the reaction of wheat genotypes based on the sporulation rate of PoT on their tissues.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os efeitos da adubação com nitrogênio em cobertura e silicatos, bem como da utilização de fungicidas, sobre a ocorrência de brusone nas panículas, a renda do benefício e os grãos inteiros, vítreos e gessados, em cultivar de arroz irrigado por inundação sensível à doença. Foram conduzidos dois experimentos em delineamento de blocos ao acaso, em arranjo fatorial 4×4×2, com quatro repetições: no experimento 1, quatro doses de nitrogênio × quatro doses de silicato de cálcio e magnésio via solo × com e sem uso de fungicidas; e, no experimento 2, quatro doses de nitrogênio × quatro doses de silicato de potássio via foliar × com e sem fungicidas. Nas doses acima de 60 kg ha-1 de nitrogênio sem fungicidas, houve aumento da severidade de brusone nas panículas, redução do percentual de grãos inteiros e vítreos, e aumento de grãos gessados e área gessada. Os maiores efeitos dos silicatos ocorreram sem aplicações de fungicidas. O uso de fungicidas reduziu a severidade de brusone nas panículas. A renda do benefício oscilou entre 60 e 70%, em ambos os experimentos. O controle da brusone com fungicidas mantém elevadas a qualidade de grãos do arroz, a renda do benefício e as percentagens de grãos inteiros e vítreos.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of fertilization with nitrogen topdressing and silicates, as well as of the use of fungicides, on the occurrence of rice blast on panicles, milling yield, and whole grains, vitreous grains, and chalky kernels in a flood-irrigated rice cultivar sensitive to the disease. Two experiments were conducted in a randomized complete block design, in a 4×4×2 factorial arrangement, with four replicates: in experiment 1, four doses of nitrogen × four doses of calcium and magnesium silicate on soil × with and without fungicides; and, in experiment 2, four doses of nitrogen × four doses of potassium silicate applied on leaves x with and without fungicides. At the doses above 60 kg ha-1 nitrogen without fungicides, there was an increase of rice blast severity on panicles, a decrease in the percentage of whole and vitreous grains, and an increase in chalky kernels and chalky area. The greatest effects of silicates occurred without fungicides. Fungicide use reduced the severity of rice blast on panicles. Milling yield ranged from 60 to 70% in both experiments. The control of rice blast with fungicides maintains high rice grain quality, milling yield, and percentages of whole and vitreous grains.

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar o tamanho de amostra necessário para avaliar a severidade da brusone da folha no arroz irrigado em experimentos com diferentes tratamentos fungicidas. Foram utilizados dados de severidade da brusone e área abaixo da curva de progresso da doença de três experimentos utilizando o controle químico realizados no Rio Grande do Sul. Foi realizada a análise de variância, para verificar se a severidade da doença foi diferenciada entre os tratamentos. Também foi verificado se a dispersão da doença foi diferenciada entre os tratamentos e as avaliações, através da razão variância/média e do índice de Morisita. A dispersão da doença entre os tratamentos e ao longo das avaliações é importante para a escolha da fórmula utilizada no cálculo do tamanho da amostra. A dispersão da doença não foi a mesma ao longo dos experimentos, variando entre tratamentos e avaliações. Diante deste comportamento, optou-se por utilizar uma fórmula de cálculo que não estivesse associado a distribuições que indicassem a distribuição espacial da doença no campo (binomial negativa ou Poisson). O tamanho de amostra para a estimação da severidade média da brusone do arroz variou entre os tratamentos e as avaliações. Para avaliar a área abaixo da curva de progresso da doença é necessário avaliar menos folhas. Recomenda-se a avaliação de 293 folhas para estimar a severidade, e 63 para estimar a AUDPC, com 20% de erro.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to determine the sample size needed to assess the severity of leaf blast in rice in experiments with different fungicide treatments. The severity and the area under the disease progress curve data of three chemical disease control treatments carried out in Rio Grande do Sul, were used in the study. Analysis of variance was performed to verify whether the severity of the disease differed between treatments. The spread of disease was was also found to be different between treatments and assessments, using the variance/mean ratio and Morisita index. The spatial distribution of the disease among the treatments and during the evaluations is important for the choice of the equation used to calculate the sample size. The spatial distribution of the disease was not the same across the experiments, and it varied between treatments and evaluations. Thus, we decided to use a formula that was not associated with distributions to indicate the spatial distribution (negative binomial or Poisson) of the disease in the field. The sample size to estimate the average of rice leaf blast severity varied between treatments and evaluations. The area under the disease progress curve is necessary to be determined to reduce the number of samples needed. Thus, it is recommended to assess 293 sheets to estimate severity, and 63 to estimate AUDPC at 20% error.

RESUMO A podridão parda do pessegueiro, causada pelo fungo Monilinia fructicola, é a principal doença da cultura, e o seu controle é baseado, principalmente, em frequentes aplicações de fungicidas. Objetivou-se buscar alternativas ao uso intensivo de produtos químicos, avaliando-se doses de silício para o controle pré e pós-colheita da podridão parda e sua influência nos parâmetros de maturação e qualidade dos frutos. Os tratamentos consistiram de testemunha (água) e doses de metassilicato de sódio (2 g L-1, 4 g L-1, 6 g L-1, 8 g L-1 e 10 g L-1 de água). As avaliações incluíram a germinação de esporos e crescimento micelial in vitro, incidência de podridão parda, sólidos solúveis, acidez titulável, firmeza de polpa, conteúdo de polifenóis totais, produção de etileno e respiração em frutos. A dose de 2 g L-1 reduziu em 95 % a germinação dos esporos. Doses de 6 g L-1 e 8 g L-1 reduziram satisfatoriamente a incidência da doença a campo, com controle de 77 % e 89,2 %, respectivamente. O metassilicato de sódio manteve maior firmeza de polpa, reduziu a respiração e a produção de etileno e aumentou a síntese de polifenóis totais, porém, não influenciou na acidez titulável e sólidos solúveis. A aplicação de 6 g L-1 tem potencial para o controle pré e pós-colheita da podridão parda do pessegueiro, além de aumentar a síntese de polifenóis totais e manter maior firmeza da polpa.

ABSTRACT Peach brown rot, caused by the Monilinia fructicola fungus, is the main disease affecting peach crops, and it is mainly controlled via frequent fungicide applications. This study aimed at searching for alternatives to the intensive use of chemicals, evaluating silicon doses to control pre and postharvest peach brown rot and their influence on maturation parameters and fruit quality. Treatments consisted of control (water) and sodium metasilicate doses (2 g L-1, 4 g L-1, 6 g L-1, 8 g L-1 and 10 g L-1 of water). The following assessments were made: spore germination and in vitro mycelial growth, brown rot incidence, soluble solids, titratable acidity, flesh firmness, total polyphenol content and fruit ethylene production and respiration rate. The 2 g L-1 dose reduced spore germination by 95 %. Doses of 6 g L-1 and 8 g L-1 satisfactorily reduced the disease incidence in the field, with 77 % and 89.2 % control, respectively. Sodium metasilicate resulted in the maintenance of great fruit firmness, reduced respiration and ethylene production and increased total polyphenol synthesis, but it did not influence the titratable acidity or soluble solids. Applying 6 g L-1 may potentially control pre and postharvest peach brown rot, besides increasing the total polyphenol synthesis and maintaining a higher flesh firmness.

RESUMO Foi conduzido um experimento em campo na safra de 2012 com o objetivo de avaliar a contribuição do óleo essencial de laranja na performance dos fungicidas visando o controle de doenças foliares do trigo. O delineamento experimental foi o de blocos ao acaso em arranjo fatorial (3x5) + 1, com quatro repetições. O fator A foi composto pelos fungicidas (dose do produto comercial) epoxiconazol (0,75L ha-1), piraclostrobina (0,80L ha-1) e epoxiconazol+piraclostrobina (0,75L ha-1) e o fator B pelos adjuvantes (doses) óleo mineral (500mL ha-1) e óleo essencial de laranja (0, 50, 100 e 150mL ha-1). O tratamento adicional compreendeu-se pela testemunha (água). O controle de manchas foliares na folha bandeira foi mais eficaz com a aplicação de epoxiconazol e de epoxiconazol+piraclostrobina independentemente do adjuvante usado ser óleo mineral ou óleo essencial de laranja, enquanto que os adjuvantes testados não interferiram no controle da ferrugem. O peso do hectolitro, massa de mil grãos e a produtividade do trigo não foram afetados negativamente pelas diferentes concentrações do óleo essencial de laranja.

ABSTRACT A field experiment was conducted during the 2012 growing season with the aim of evaluating the contribution of orange essential oil to the performance of fungicides on the control of wheat leaf diseases. The experimental design was in randomized blocks, as factorial arrangement (3x5) + 1, and four replicates. Factor A was composed of the fungicides (dose of the commercial product) epoxiconazole (0.75L ha-1), pyraclostrobin (0.80L ha-1) and epoxiconazole+pyraclostrobin (0.75L ha-1) and factor B was composed of the adjuvants (doses) mineral oil (500mL ha-1) and orange essential oil (0, 50, 100 and 150mL ha-1). The additional treatment was represented by a control (distilled water). Flag leaf spot control was more efficient with the use of epoxiconazole and epoxiconazole+pyraclostrobin whether the used adjuvant was mineral oil or orange essential oil, while the tested adjuvants did not affect rust control. The hectoliter weight, mass of one thousand grains and wheat yield were not negatively affected by the different concentrations of orange essential oil.

A utilização de equipamentos de pulverização com menor volume de aplicação no controle de doenças é uma tendência na agricultura. Portanto, este trabalho tem por objetivo determinar a eficiência de equipamentos com baixo volume de aplicação no controle de doenças foliares do trigo. O experimento foi conduzido em duas safras agrícolas e três cultivares no município de Santa Maria, RS. Os tratamentos constituíram-se de diferentes equipamentos de pulverização, sendo eles: pontas hidráulicas do tipo leque (XR 110015) e cone vazio sem indução de ar (TX-VK6), ambos com volume de aplicação de 120L ha-1, atomizadores rotativos de discos, utilizando baixo volume oleoso (BVO(r)), com volumes de aplicação de 24L ha-1 e 34L ha-1 e uma testemunha sem aplicação. As gotas geradas pelos equipamentos (densidade, diâmetro mediano volumétrico) foram avaliadas através da utilização de papéis hidrosensíveis. Também foram avaliadas a severidade da mancha amarela e da ferrugem da folha. A utilização de bicos hidráulicos com volume de aplicação de 120L ha-1 apresentaram as maiores eficiências no controle das doenças. O atomizador rotativo de discos com volume de aplicação de 34L ha-1 apresentou eficiência no controle das doenças semelhantes ao bico hidráulico. A densidade de gotas foi superior a 40 gotas cm-2 em todos os tratamentos, mesmo nos tratamentos com atomizadores rotativos de disco com baixo volume de aplicação. O controle das doenças não apresentou relação direta com a cobertura mensurada pelos cartões hidrosensíveis

The use of spraying equipments with lower spray volume at disease control is a tendency in agriculture. The study aimed to determinate the efficiency of low spray volume at the wheat leaf diseases control. The experiment was carried during two harvest years and three cultivars in Santa Maria, RS. The treatments were constituted of different spraying equipments: hydraulic nozzle (XR 110015) and hollow cone (TX-VK6), both with spray volume of 120L ha-1, rotary-disk atomizer using low volume in oil, with spray volume of 24L ha-1 and 34L ha-1 and a control treatment without application. The droplets generated by the equipments (density, medium volumetric diameter) were evaluated throughout the use of water sensible cards. Also were evaluated the yellow leaf blight and leaf rust. The use of hydraulic nozzle at spray volume of 120L ha-1 showed higher efficiency on the disease control. The rotary-disk atomizer with spray volume of 34L ha-1 showed similar efficiency in the disease control of hydraulic nozzle. The droplet density was superior to 40 droplets cm-2 in all treatments, also at the rotary-disk treatments with low pulverization rates. The disease control did not show direct relation with the coverage measured by the water sensible cards

Na safra agrícola 2007/2008, foi realizado um estudo com o objetivo de avaliar a deposição e penetração de gotas através de cartões hidrossensíveis e análise cromatográfica. Para isso, utilizaram-se o bico eletrostático, bico hidráulico e atomizadores rotativos de discos com diferentes volumes de calda. As pulverizações foram realizadas no estádio R3 da cultura, com aeronave Ipanema EMB-202, aplicando-se fungicida trifloxistrobina + propiconazole. Através da leitura de cartões hidrossensíveis, determinou-se a densidade de gotas, o diâmetro médio numérico, diâmetro médio volumétrico, amplitude relativa e a penetração de gotas no dossel (%). Também foi utilizada a análise cromatográfica para determinar a penetração do produto no alvo biológico. O bico hidráulico, com taxa de aplicação de 20L ha-1 e 30L ha-1, e o bico eletrostático, com taxa de aplicação de 10L ha-1, obtiveram maior densidade de gotas no terço superior. O uso de atomizadores rotativos de disco com volume de calda de 15L ha-1 apresentou maior densidade de gotas no terço médio e inferior. Para diâmetro médio volumétrico, os bicos eletrostáticos juntamente com os atomizadores rotativos de discos apresentaram os menores valores. A maior homogeneidade de gotas no terço superior foi obtida com atomizadores rotativos de disco com taxa de aplicação de 6L ha-1 e 10L ha-¹. A análise cromatográfica mostrou que a maior quantidade de produto foi retida com bicos eletrostáticos com taxa de aplicação de 10L ha- ¹ no extrato inferior da planta.

In the harvest year of 2007/2008 a study was carried to evaluate the droplets deposition and penetration throughout water sensible cards and gas chromatographic analysis. Were used the hydraulic nozzle, electrostatic nozzle and rotary-disk atomizer spraying systems, with different volumes of spray solution. Aerial applications were performed at R3 stage using the aircraft Ipanema EMB-202 and the fungicide trifloxystrobin + propiconazole. Throughout the lection of the water sensible cards was determinate the droplet density, the medium numeric diameter, the medium volumetric diameter, the relative amplitude and the percentage of droplet penetration in the canopy. Chromatographic analysis was also performed to determinate the fungicide penetration into the biological target. The pulverization systems hydraulic nozzle 20L ha-1 and 30L ha-1 and the electrostatic system 10L ha-1 demonstrated higher droplet density in the upper third. The rotary-disk atomizer 15L ha-1 showed higher droplet density in the mid and low third. To the medium volumetric diameter, the electrostatic nozzles and the rotary-disk atomizer showed the lowest values. The higher homogeneity in the upper third was attained with rotary-disk atomizer at the pulverization rates of 6L ha-1 and 10L ha-1. The chromatographic analysis showed that the higher quantity of product retention was obtained with the electrostatic system at the pulverization rate of 10L ha-1 in the lower plant extract.

Na safra agrícola de 2007 foi instalado um experimento com a cultura do trigo com o objetivo de avaliar a influência do zinco, manganês e molibdênio aplicados juntamente com fungicidas sobre a severidade de doenças e duração da área foliar verde. As aplicações dos fungicidas foram realizadas no final do emborrachamento e no florescimento, e a de micronutrientes, somente no florescimento. Foram analisados os teores de micronutrientes nas folhas, severidade das doenças causadas por Drechslera tritici-repentis eSeptoria tritici, índice SPAD (Soil Plant Analysis Development), peso hectolítrico, peso de mil grãos, tamanho de espigas, e rendimento de grãos. O uso do epoxiconazol + piraclostrobina proporcionou o melhor controle de D. tritici-repentis e de S. tritici. Produtos com epoxiconazol e piraclostrobina atuaram na fisiologia da planta, incrementando os teores de micronutrientes nos tecidos e prolongando o tempo que o trigo permaneceu com área foliar fotossinteticamente ativa. Epoxiconazol + piraclostrobina, piraclostrobina e epoxiconazol pulverizados associados ou não a micronutrientes, propiciaram aumento do peso hectolítrico, peso de mil grãos e rendimento, quando comparados à testemunha.

In the crop cycle of 2007, an experiment was carried out in order to evaluate the influence of zinc, manganese and molybdenum sprayed together with fungicides on the severity of diseases and leaf area maintenance in wheat. Fungicides were sprayed at the end of booting and during flowering, whereas micronutrients were only sprayed during flowering. Micronutrients levels in the leaves, severity of diseases caused by Drechslera tritici and Septoria tritici, SPAD (Soil Plant Analysis Development) index, hectoliter weight, thousand-grain weight, ear size, and grain yield were evaluated. The use of epoxiconazol + pyraclostrobin led to a better control of Drechslera tritici and Septoria tritici. Products containing epoxiconazol + pyraclostrobin had an effect on plant physiology by increasing the levels of micronutrients in tissues and prolonging the time during which wheat remained with photosynthetically active leaf area. Epoxiconazol + pyraclostrobin, pyraclostrobin and epoxiconazol sprayed in association or not with micronutrients, led to increased hectoliter weight, thousand-grain weight and grain yield relative to control.

Experimentos para a avaliação de resistência de soja a antracnose foram instalados na Universidade Federal de Santa Maria. Seis cultivares foram selecionadas quanto a sua reação à inoculação com o patógeno (duas resistentes, duas intermediárias e duas suscetíveis) e inoculadas com isolados de Colletotrichum truncatum (Schwein) nos estádios V1/V2 e V5/V6. Estas reações foram determinadas a partir de uma escala de severidade de sintomas, que variou de zero a nove, e que foi utilizada para determinar os índices de virulência dos isolados e de resistência das cultivares. Os resultados de inoculação nos estádios V1/V2 mostraram diferenças quanto à reação das cultivares inoculadas, quando comparadas às inoculações realizadas no estádio V5/V6. O aumento de resistência no estádio mais avançado sugere o efeito de "resistência de planta adulta".

Experiments for the evaluation of soybean resistance to anthracnose were carried out at Federal University of Santa Maria. Six cultivars were selected based on their reaction to the pathogen inoculation (two resistant, two intermediate and two susceptible), and submitted for inoculation in stadiums V1/V2 and V5/V6. Plant reactions were determined from symptom severity scale (zero to nine), and used to determine the virulence and resistance indexes. The results of inoculation in stages V1/V2 showed differences in the reaction of cultivars when compared to the inoculations carried out in stage V5/V6. High resistance in V5/V6 suggests a mechanism of "resistance of adult plant".

Na safra 2004/05, a ferrugem da videira foi identificada pela primeira vez em parreirais localizados em Santa Maria/RS. No Brasil, a doença já havia sido identificada em Jandaia do Sul-Paraná (2001), em São Paulo e em Mato Grosso do Sul (2000). A doença é causada pelo fungo Phakopsora euvitis, geralmente disseminado pelo vento e favorecido por condições de umidade elevadas. Em condição ambiente favorável, é possível que o patógeno ataque o hospedeiro intermediário na região ou migre anualmente de áreas atacadas.

In 2004/05 seanon the grape rust was identified by the first time attacking vineyard located in the Santa Maria/RS region. In Brazil it had already been identified in Jandaia do Sul/PR (2001), São Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul (2003). The disease is caused by Phakopsora euvitis. The fungi is easily disseminated by wind and favored by high temperature and umidity. Such conditions are normally observed in Santa Maria region what make possible the fungus to survive on alternative host or migrate from other regions.

O objetivo deste experimento foi avaliar a eficiência do Óxido de Fenbutatin, no controle das formas móveis do ácaro vermelho europeu. Realizou-se um ensaio em pomar de macieira, cv. Fuji, na Empresa Florense, em Lagoa Vermelha, RS, na safra de 1993/94. Os resultados demonstraram que todas as doses utilizadas foram eficientes, até os trinta dias após a aplicação.

The objective of this experiment was to evaluate the efficience of Fenbutatin Oxide for controlling mobile forms of red mite ( Panonichus ulmi Koch.). An experiment was conducted in apple orchard cv. Fuji, in Lagoa Vermelha county, RS, Brazil, in 1993/94. The results indicated that all treatments with Fenbutatin Oxide were efficients at 30 days after application.
