ABSTRACT Introduction: Optimal fluid balance in peritoneal dialysis requires adequate urinary and peritoneal water and sodium removal and restriction of dietary sodium intake (<2 g/day). We aim to study the relationship between sodium intake, blood pressure control and medication burden in peritoneal dialysis patients. Methods: Observational, cross-sectional study of chronic peritoneal dialysis patients followed in our hospital in March 2022. We estimated patient’s sodium intake according to the equations proposed by Kim et al. Mean ambulatory blood pressure was categorized in controlled, stage one, stage two and stage three hypertension. A qualitative evaluation of sodium intake was done by asking patients about their compliance with a low-salt diet. Results: Eighty-two patients: mostly men, with a mean age of 54.1±14.7 years and dialysis vintage of 26.2±18.7 months. Most patients were on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (63.4%) and the mean weekly Kt/V was 2.2±0.4. A percentage of 85.4% of our patients had residual diuresis, averaged at 1257±867 mL/day. Mean dietary sodium intake was 3.5±1.1 g; it was higher in men and patients with uncontrolled hypertension, regardless of age, dialysis vintage and other comorbidities. We found a strong correlation between dietary sodium intake and residual diuresis, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and the number of anti-hypertensive drugs. Patients with a sodium intake ≥ 3.3 g had higher risk of uncontrolled BP and higher medication burden. Qualitative evaluation of this sub-population revealed that only 2.3% (n=1) admitted non-compliance with a low-sodium diet. Conclusion: We found a strong correlation between estimated dietary sodium consumption, blood pressure control and medication burden. Most importantly, there was a striking difference between patient’s perception of sodium consumption and the actual results. Our results highlight the importance of dietary salt restriction in blood pressure control and reinforce the need for a dietary consultation in peritoneal dialysis patients.

Abstract This article discusses the phenomenon of depopulation of rural territories in European countries, characterized by population aging, weak economic dynamics and environmental risks, and given this complex reality, highlights the situation of Portuguese communal lands, known as baldios, in areas usually characterized by interiority and rural decline. The study starts from a diverse literature on the theme of depopulation and development, combined with empirical research from observations undertaken in “baldios” in northern Portugal that are implementing the strategy of grouping. The research underscores the importance of the State and public policies as means to promote a development based on key processes of direct participation of communities and their organizations.

Résumé Cet article traite du phénomène de dépeuplement des territoires ruraux dans les pays européens, caractérisé par le vieillissement de la population, une faible dynamique économique et des risques environnementaux. Face à cette réalité complexe, la situation des terres communautaires portugaises, connues sous le nom de baldios, dans des zones généralement caractérisées par l’intériorité et le déclin rural, se démarque. L’étude est basée sur une littérature diversifiée sur le thème du dépeuplement et du développement, combinée à une enquête empirique basée sur des observations menées dans des espaces communs du nord du Portugal. Cette recherche souligne l’importance de l’État et des politiques publiques comme moyen de promouvoir un développement fondé sur des processus clés de participation directe des communautés et de leurs organisations.

Resumo Este artigo discute o fenómeno do despovoamento de territórios rurais de países europeus caracterizados pelo envelhecimento populacional, pela fraca dinâmica económica e pelos riscos ambientais. Sobre essa realidade complexa, destaca-se a situação das terras comunitárias portuguesas, conhecidas como baldios, em áreas usualmente caracterizadas pela interioridade e pelo declínio rural. O estudo parte de uma literatura diversa sobre a temática do despovoamento e do desenvolvimento, aliado a uma investigação empírica a partir de observações empreendidas em baldios do norte de Portugal. Esta investigação aponta a importância do Estado e das políticas públicas como meios para promover um desenvolvimento assente em processos-chave de participação direta das comunidades e de suas organizações.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Sleep disorders affect up to 70% of peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients and appear to have significant negative effects on their quality of life (QoL). We compared life and sleep quality between patients on automated PD (APD) and continuous ambulatory PD (CAPD). Material and Methods: Cross-sectional study in chronic PD patients followed in our Dialysis Unit in February 2022. We evaluated sleep quality with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) and QoL with EUROHIS-QOL-8. Results: Fifty-two patients, mostly men (65.4%, n=32), with a mean age of 52.7±14.2 years and PD vintage of 24.3±17.1 months. Our sample had similar distribution between APD and CAPD; we found no difference between groups regarding demographic data, PD-related quality parameters or prevalence of previous sleep disturbances. Mean QoL index was 69.9%±9.3% and similar between APD and CAPD patients; EUROHIS-QOL-8 negatively correlated with the scores on ESS (p=0.004) and PSQI (p=0.011). Regarding sleep quality, the mean ESS was 8.8±4.2 and PSQI was 7.6±3.6. APD patients had similar scores on ESS, but higher prevalence of severe daytime sleepiness (ESS≥18) (p=0.04) and higher scores on PSQI (p=0.002). Within the PSQI, sleep’ latency (p=0.003), duration (p=0.002) and efficiency (p=0.013) were the most affected parameters. Higher PSQI scores also correlated with worse blood pressure control; a cut-off value for PSQI of 6 was found to increase the risk of uncontrolled hypertension. Conclusion: In our series, APD patients had worse global sleep quality (PSQI) when compared to ACPD patients. This difference was mainly due to worse sleep latency, duration and efficiency. The assessment of the quality of life showed no difference between groups, however there was a clear link between quality of life and sleep quality.

ABSTRACT: Aims: Identify factors that interfere in the provision of oral hygiene care, developed by nurses, to orotracheally intubated patients in intensive care units, on primary scientific evidence. Methods: A systematic literature review study, developed according to the Joanna Briggs Institute protocol. To obtain the articles, a search on B-On( and PubMed( was made. The terms used in the search took into account the vocabulary indexed to the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) database, having been structured according to Boolean operators, with the following combination in English: “Oral Hygiene” AND “Pneumonia, Ventilator-Associated” OR “Pneumonia, Ventilator Associated” AND “Critical Care Nursing”. Articles published between December 2017 and December 2020, in English, Portuguese and Spanish, available in full, published in peer-reviewed scientific journals (peer review) and which fit the PICO question developed for the study, were defined as limiting. Results: After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, eight articles of a primary and qualitative nature were included in the review that address the factors that influence the provision of oral hygiene care by nurses to patients undergoing orotracheal intubation. Conclusions: The oral hygiene care practices provided to users under orotracheal intubation, by nurses, are influenced by their knowledge, attitudes, available resources, training and institutional policies, as well as by factors related to the user that are mainly related to difficulties in access to the oral cavity.

RESUMEN: Objetivos: Identificar evidencias científicas primarias sobre los principales factores que interfieren en la prestación de cuidados de higiene bucal, desarrollados por enfermeros, a usuarios intubados orotraquealmente en unidades de cuidados intensivos. Método: Estudio de revisión sistemática de la literatura, desarrollado según el protocolo del Instituto Joanna Briggs. Para la obtención de los artículos se utilizaron los motores de búsqueda B-On( y PubMed(. Los términos utilizados en la búsqueda tuvieron en cuenta el vocabulario indexado a la base de datos Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), habiéndose estructurado según operadores booleanos, con la siguiente combinación, en inglés: “Oral Hygiene” AND “Pneumonia, Ventilator-Associated” OR “Pneumonia, Ventilator Associated” Y “Critical Care Nursing”. Se definieron como limitantes artículos publicados entre diciembre de 2017 y diciembre de 2020, en inglés, portugués y español, disponibles en su totalidad, publicados en revistas científicas revisadas por pares (peer review) y que se ajustan a la pregunta PICO desarrollada para el estudio. Resultados: Después de aplicar los criterios de inclusión y exclusión, se incluyeron en la revisión ocho artículos de carácter primario y cualitativo que abordan los factores que influyen en la prestación de cuidados de higiene bucal por parte de los enfermeros a pacientes sometidos a intubación orotraqueal. Conclusión: Las prácticas de cuidado de la higiene bucal brindadas a los usuarios en intubación orotraqueal, por parte de los enfermeros, son influenciadas por sus conocimientos, actitudes, recursos disponibles, capacitación y políticas institucionales, así como por factores relacionados al usuario que se relacionan principalmente con las dificultades de acceso a la cavidad oral.

Abstract The aim of this study was to verify the effect of pinch size on skinfold thickness measurement and the consequent interference in the estimation and classification of body adiposity components. Cross-sectional and quantitative study carried out with a sample of 29 subjects recruited from a university in the city of Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil. Four measurement steps were performed at each site of the eight chosen skinfolds. The first step was performed with a subjective-landmark and the three subsequent steps with fixed-landmarks defined with an expanding secondary line at 2 cm intervals. Body adiposity components were determined from the skinfold thickness measured at each landmark. Repeated measures ANOVA and Bland-Altman agreement analysis were applied. The subjective-landmark was chosen as the dependent variable. The 6 cm-landmark showed similarity and statistical agreement with the subjective-landmark for all skinfolds except the thigh, and with the sums of five and eight skinfolds. All fixed-landmarks showed agreement below the cut-off point for the percentile classification of subcutaneous adiposity and normative relative body fat. Variation in pinch size is an important source of TEM that can affect the reproducibility of skinfold thickness measurements and interfere in the estimation and classification of the molecular and tissue component of body adiposity.

Resumo O objetivo deste estudo foi verificar o efeito do tamanho da pinça na medida de espessura das dobras cutâneas e a consequente interferência na estimativa e classificação dos componentes da adiposidade corporal. Estudo transversal e quantitativo realizado com amostra de 29 sujeitos recrutados em uma universidade da cidade de Fortaleza, Ceará, Brasil. Quatro etapas de medição foram realizadas em cada sítio das oito dobras cutâneas escolhidas. A primeira etapa foi realizada com um marco subjetivo e as três etapas subsequentes com marcos fixos definidos com uma linha secundária expansiva em intervalos de 2 cm. Os componentes da adiposidade corporal foram determinados a partir da espessura de dobras cutâneas mensuradas em cada marco. ANOVA de medidas repetidas e análise de concordância de Bland-Altman foram aplicadas. O marco subjetivo foi escolhido como variável dependente. O marco de 6 cm apresentou semelhança e concordância estatística com o marco subjetivo para todas as dobras cutâneas, exceto a coxa, e com as somas de cinco e oito espessuras de dobras cutâneas. Todos os marcos fixos mostraram concordância abaixo do ponto de corte para a classificação percentílica de adiposidade subcutânea e gordura corporal relativa normativa. A variação no tamanho da pinça é uma importante fonte de ETM que pode afetar a reprodutibilidade de medida de espessura das dobras cutâneas e interferir na confiabilidade da estimativa e classificação do componente molecular e tecidual da adiposidade corporal.

Abstract Background Data on post-acute COVID-19 in autoimmune rheumatic diseases (ARD) are scarce, focusing on a single disease, with variable definitions of this condition and time of vaccination. The aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency and pattern of post-acute COVID-19 in vaccinated patients with ARD using established diagnosis criteria. Methods Retrospective evaluation of a prospective cohort of 108 ARD patients and 32 non-ARD controls, diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection (RT-PCR/antigen test) after the third dose of the CoronaVac vaccine. Post-acute COVID-19 (≥ 4 weeks and > 12 weeks of SARS-CoV-2 symptoms) were registered according to the established international criteria. Results ARD patients and non-ARD controls, balanced for age and sex, had high and comparable frequencies of ≥ 4 weeks post-acute COVID-19 (58.3% vs. 53.1%, p = 0.6854) and > 12 weeks post-acute COVID-19 (39.8% vs. 46.9%, p = 0.5419). Regarding ≥ 4 weeks post-acute COVID-19, frequencies of ≥ 3 symptoms were similar in ARD and non-ARD controls (54% vs. 41.2%, p = 0.7886), and this was also similar in > 12 weeks post-acute COVID-19 (68.3% vs. 88.2%, p = 0.1322). Further analysis of the risk factors for ≥ 4 weeks post-acute COVID-19 in ARD patients revealed that age, sex, clinical severity of COVID-19, reinfection, and autoimmune diseases were not associated with this condition (p > 0.05). The clinical manifestations of post-acute COVID-19 were similar in both groups (p > 0.05), with fatigue and memory loss being the most frequent manifestations. Conclusion We provide novel data demonstrating that immune/inflammatory ARD disturbances after third dose vaccination do not seem to be a major determinant of post-acute COVID-19 since its pattern is very similar to that of the general population. Resumen: El bloqueo del plano del músculo erector espinal es una técnica ecoguiada que ha ganado popularidad como técnica analgésica perioperatoria debido a su perfil de seguridad y versatilidad. Se describe el caso de una anciana con cardiopatía isquémica y fibrilación auricular, a la que se le realizó colectomía segmentaria mediante laparotomía subcostal izquierda bajo anestesia general, para la escisión de un tumor de colon. Se colocó un catéter en el plano del músculo erector espinal al nivel T7 bajo guía ultrasónica y luego se utilizó para analgesia postoperatoria (ropivacaína 0.2% bolo + infusión a 8 mL/h) junto con paracetamol intravenoso y metamizol. Este régimen analgésico se mantuvo durante 72 horas, con excelente control del dolor, tras lo cual se retiró el catéter. La paciente permaneció con adecuada analgesia sin opioides de rescate hasta su alta a los siete días del postoperatorio. El bloqueo del plano del erector espinal torácico continuo fue una técnica eficaz para la analgesia postoperatoria en cirugía abdominal abierta, con bajo riesgo de complicaciones y evitando el uso de opioides.

Abstract: Erector spinae plane block is an ultrasound-guided technique who has seen a growing role as a perioperative analgesic technique due to its safety profile and versatility. We describe a case of an elderly female with a history of ischemic heart disease and atrial fibrillation, who underwent segmental colectomy by left subcostal laparotomy under general anesthesia, for removal of a colon tumor. An erector spinae plane catheter was placed at the T7 level under ultrasound guidance, and then used for postoperative analgesia. Ropivacaine 0.2% (initial bolus + infusion at 8 mL/h) was used through the catheter, together with intravenous paracetamol and metamizol. This analgesic regimen was maintained for 72 hours, with excellent pain control, after which the catheter was removed. The patient’s pain remained controlled and rescue analgesia was not required until her discharge at seven days postoperative. Continuous ESP block was an effective technique for postoperative analgesia in this case, allowing excellent pain control with a low risk of complications and avoiding the use of opioids.

Abstract One of the major health security challenges of the 21st century is the occurrence of microbial infections and bacterial complications that could affect 10 million people by 2050. On the biomaterial field, implant metallic currently replaces partial or total body parts and can fail to be integrated into the body due to infections. This study performs two combined surface modifications on Ti-30Ta alloy, in order to obtain an infection-resistance and osseointegration surface on metallic implants to be tested within bacterial biofilm. The Group 1 investigated surface modifications by the anodization process in the electrolyte glycerol + NH4F 0.25% at 30V- 9 hours and annealed in 530°C (5°C/min). The Group 2 underwent the same process as Group 1 and, additionally, the samples were immersed in 0.3 M CaCl2 and 0.5 M Na2HPO4 solutions for hydroxyapatite growth. The substrate was characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and dynamic contact angle. S. epidermidis bacterial adhesion and biofilm formation. The results indicated that the Group 1 shows a higher antimicrobial activity, hydrophilic behavior and potential to be used for metallic implant applications. The Group 2 with the hydroxyapatite film coating did not have an improvement in the antimicrobial response.

Abstract BINGO (BAO from Integrated Neutral Gas Observations) is a unique radio telescope designed to map the intensity of neutral hydrogen distribution at cosmological distances, making the first detection of Baryon Acoustic Oscillations (BAO) in the frequency band 980 MHz - 1260 MHz, corresponding to a redshift range 0.127 < z < 0.449. BAO is one of the most powerful probes of cosmological parameters and BINGO was designed to detect the BAO signal to a level that makes it possible to put new constraints on the equation of state of dark energy. The telescope will be built in Paraíba, Brazil and consists of two \thicksim 40m mirrors, a feedhorn array of 50 horns, and no moving parts, working as a drift-scan instrument. It will cover a 15 ^{\circ} ∘ declination strip centered at \sim \delta ∼ δ =-15 ^{\circ} ∘, mapping \sim ∼ 5400 square degrees in the sky. The BINGO consortium is led by University of São Paulo with co-leadership at National Institute for Space Research and Campina Grande Federal University (Brazil). Telescope subsystems have already been fabricated and tested, and the dish and structure fabrication are expected to start in late 2020, as well as the road and terrain preparation.

RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar a eficácia de um programa de intervenção nas práticas e comportamentos da equipe de saúde para prevenir a queda a idosos hospitalizados. Método: Estudo de investigação-ação, misto e longitudinal, com aplicação de uma intervenção baseada no “TeamSTEPPS®”, organizada em cinco domínios: formação da equipe, comunicação, liderança, monitorização e suporte mútuo. A população foi constituída por enfermeiros e auxiliares de um serviço de medicina de um centro hospitalar português. Os dados foram obtidos por consulta aos processos, entrevistas e pela aplicação da escala de avaliação das práticas e comportamentos das equipes na gestão do risco de quedas de idosos. Resultados: Os resultados da aplicação da escala de práticas e comportamentos das equipes na gestão do risco de queda dos idosos apontam para uma melhoria em todos os indicadores dessa escala, com claras melhorias na discussão dos fatores de risco e das medidas preventivas a implementar. Conclusão: A intervenção promove a tomada de decisão sobre as medidas preventivas a serem aplicadas a cada idoso, melhora a comunicação e o interesse em identificar as causas de quedas, para prevenir a sua recorrência.

ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of an intervention program in practices and behaviors of a health team to prevent falls in hos pitalized elderly people. Method: This was an action, mixed-methods, and longitudinal study that applied an intervention based on TeamSTEPPS®, and organized into five domains: team training, communication, leadership, monitoring, and mutual support. The population was nurses and nursing aides who worked at the medical service of a Portuguese hospital center. Data were obtained by consulting process records and interviews, and by applying the Scale of Practices and Behaviors of Teams for Fall Prevention. Results: There was improvement in all indicators of the scale, with evident progress in discussion of risk factors and preventive measures to be implemented. Conclusion: This intervention promoted decision-making regarding the preventive measures to be applied to each elderly person and improved communication and the interest in identifying the causes of falls to prevent their recurrence.

Población constituida por enfermeros y auxiliares de un servicio de medicina en un centro hospitalario portugués. Datos obtenidos mediante consulta de los procesos, entrevistas y aplicación de escala de evaluación de las prácticas y conductas de los equipos en la gestión del riesgo de caída en ancianos. Resultados: Los resultados de la aplicación de la escala de prácticas y conductas de los equipos en la gestión del riesgo de caída de los ancianos apuntan a una mejora en todos sus indicadores, claramente expresada en la discusión de factores de riesgo y medidas preventivas a implementarse. Conclusión: La intervención promueve la toma de decisiones sobre medidas preventivas a aplicarse con cada anciano, mejora la comunicación y el interés en identificar las causas de caída para prevenir su reiteración.

ABSTRACT Sarcoidosis is a multisystem granulomatous disease characterized by epithelioid noncaseating granulomas associated with clinical and radiologic findings. The cause of this disease is still uncertain. Sarcoidosis affects mostly lungs and lymph nodes and is not usually considered a urological disease, therefore, this etiology may be overlooked in several urological disorders, such as hypercalcemia, hypercalciuria and nephrolithiasis. It affects all races and genders. This review aims to describe the urological manifestations of sarcoidosis and to elucidate how the disease may affect the management of numerous urological conditions.

Resumo: Embora os girinos de anuros sejam amplamente distribuídos e abundantes em habitats aquáticos tropicais, não há chaves taxonômicas suficientes para as espécies da Mata Atlântica. Aqui, desenvolvemos uma chave dicotômica para identificar os girinos de todas as espécies com fase larval conhecida e já registradas nesse bioma, ao norte do rio São Francisco. Nós analisamos características discretas de 1.042 girinos pertencentes a 63 espécies (28 gêneros) de 32 localidades. Esta chave de identificação inclui ilustrações e imagens, sendo um passo significativo para um melhor conhecimento dos girinos da Mata Atlântica.

Abstract: Although anuran tadpoles are widely distributed and abundant in tropical aquatic habitats, there is a lack of taxonomic keys for the Atlantic Forest. Herein, we developed a dichotomous key for identifying the tadpoles for all species with known larval phase and already recorded in the Atlantic Forest north of the São Francisco River. We analyzed discrete characteristics of 1,042 tadpoles encompassing 63 species of 28 genera from 32 localities. The user-friendly key includes illustration and pictures, and it is a significant step towards improving our knowledge of tadpoles of the Atlantic Forest.

ABSTRACT Objective The objective of the present study was the design and validation, by a panel of experts, of a team intervention to manage the risk of falls in the hospitalized elderly. Method The method used was a quanti-qualitative approach, using the Delphi method. The study was developed in two phases: in the first, five researchers designed the intervention; in the second, 13 professionals validated it. Results The analysis of the content of the intervention designed by the participants in the first phase of the study allowed assignment of the indicators to the following previously defined categories: team formation; communication; leadership; monitoring; and mutual support. After two rounds, all the indicators obtained a consensus higher than 80%. Conclusion The present study allowed validation of a team intervention by a panel of experts, so that teams can manage the risk of falls in hospitalized elderly. The reliability test results ensure that the intervention can be used safely in clinics and for research.

RESUMEN Objetivo El objetivo del presente estudio fue el diseño y la validación, por un panel de expertos, de intervención en equipo para manejar el riesgo de caídas en los ancianos hospitalizados. Método El método empleado fue un abordaje cuanti-cualitativo, utilizándose el método Delphi. El estudio fue desarrollado en dos fases: en la primera, cinco investigadores diseñaron la intervención; en la segunda, 13 profesionales la validaron. Resultados El análisis del contenido de la intervención diseñada por los participantes en la primera fase del estudio permitió la evaluación de los indicadores para las siguientes categorías: formación de equipo; comunicación; liderazgo; monitoreo; y soporte mutuo. Luego de dos ruedas, todos los indicadores lograron un consenso superior al 80%. Conclusión El presente estudio permitió la validación de una intervención en equipo por un panel de expertos, a fin de que los equipos puedan manejar el riesgo de caídas en los ancianos hospitalizados. Los resultados de la prueba de confiabilidad aseguran que la intervención puede emplearse de modo seguro en la clínica y para investigación.

Resumo O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar a associação da fadiga percebida com a composição corporal e a qualidade muscular (força, espessura e torque específico) em mulheres adultas jovens. Cinquenta e uma mulheres foram avaliadas quanto a fadiga percebida, a composição corporal, a força muscular de extensão de joelho, a espessura muscular e a qualidade muscular. A versão curta do Questionário Internacional de Atividade Física foi aplicada para classificar as voluntárias como ativas ou inativas.Para examinar a relação entre a fadiga percebida e as variáveis dependentes, a correlação de Pearson foi executada. A fadiga percebida apresentou relação significativa (p < 0,05) com o peso corporal (r = 0,469), IMC (r = 0,369), massa gorda (r = 0,469), percentual de gordura (r = 0,396) e pico de torque relativo (r = -0,378). Adicionalmente, mulheres inativas apresentaram maior (p < 0,05) peso corporal, índice de massa corporal, massa gorda, percentual de gordura e fadiga percebida, comparadas com mulheres ativas. A fadiga percebida se relaciona com o peso corporal e com a gordura corporal, mas não com a força muscular ou com a qualidade muscular. Além disso, mulheres fisicamente ativas tem uma menor fadiga percebida, peso corporal e gordura corporal do que mulheres fisicamente inativas. Esses resultados sugerem que a gordura corporal exerce um papel importante na fadiga percebida e que a atividade física pode atenuar esse sintoma.

Abstract The purpose of this study was to investigate the association of perceived fatigue with body composition and muscle quality (strength, thickness and specific torque) in young adult women. Fifty-one healthy women (31.98 ± 6.88 years) were assessed regarding perceived fatigue, body composition, knee extensors muscle strength, muscle thickness, and muscle quality. The short version of International Physical Activity Questionnaire was applied to classify subjects as active or inactive. To examine the relationship between perceived fatigue and dependent variables, the Pearson’s correlation was performed. Perceived fatigue was significantly correlated (p < 0.05) with body weight (r = 0.469), body mass index (r = 0.369), fat mass (r = 0.469), percent body fat (r = 0.396), and relative peak torque (r = -0.378). Additionally, inactive women had significantly greater (p < 0.05) body weight, body mass index, fat mass, percent body fat, and perceived fatigue than active women. Perceived fatigue is related to body weight and fat mass, but not to muscle strength or muscle quality. Moreover, physically active women showed lower perceived fatigue, body weight, and body fat compared to physically inactive women. These results suggest that body fat may play a role in perceived fatigue and physical activity could attenuate such symptom.
