Abstract Although emerging adulthood and the college population have been extensively studied in the literature, little research has focused on measures of stress, subjective well-being, and social support in young people who have children in addition to being college students. The transitions of emerging adulthood are especially significant when one is both a college student and a parent. The aim of this article was to analyze stress, subjective well-being (life satisfaction and affectivity) and social support in university students with or without children in northern Chile. The sample consisted of N = 625 university students aged 18 to 25 years. A binary logistic regression model was used to analyze the variables and the dichotomous category of having or not having children. It was concluded that, despite the fact that university students with children presented stress indexes in a significant range, they also maintained a positive affectivity, and it seems that this characteristic helps them to face the convergence between higher education and parenthood.

Resumen Pese a que la adultez emergente y la población universitaria ha sido ampliamente estudiadas en la literatura, son escasas las investigaciones que enfatizan en medidas de estrés, bienestar subjetivo y apoyo social en las/os jóvenes que además de ser universitarios/as, tienen hijos/as. Las transiciones de la adultez emergente son especialmente considerables cuando se es universitario/a y madre o padre a la vez. El objetivo de este artículo fue analizar el estrés, el bienestar subjetivo (satisfacción con la vida y afectividad) y el apoyo social en universitarios/as con hijos/as o sin hijos/as del norte de Chile. Integraron la muestra N = 625 estudiantes universitarios/as de edades entre 18 a 25 años. Se utilizó un modelo de regresión logística binaria, con el objetivo de analizar las variables y la categoría dicotómica de tener o no tener hijos/as. Se concluye que, pese a que las/os universitarias/os con hijos/as presentaron índices de estrés en un rango significativo, de igual forma mantienen una afectividad positiva, pareciendo que esta característica ayuda a enfrentar la convergencia entre cursar estudios superiores y ser padre o madre.

Abstract: The presence of fetal megacystis in a renal ultrasound may suggest a mechanical or functional bladder outlet obstruction, an uncommon condition with a poor outcome. Objective: To determine prog nostic factors in fetuses with prenatal diagnosis of megacystis. Patients and Method: Retrospective study carried out between 2003 and 2018 in the Orient Perinatal Reference Center (CERPO), Uni versity of Chile. Prenatal and postnatal data were analyzed, as well as etiology, pulmonary hypoplasia, medical and surgical treatment, mortality, renal function, and need for renal replacement therapy. The primary variable analyzed was survival at one year, and the secondary ones were renal function and predictors of survival. Statistical analysis was performed using the Mann-Whitney U tests or Fisher test, and a p < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: Twenty-five fetuses with prenatal diagnosis of megacystis were included. 52% of them presented oligohydramnios and 84% showed renal anomalies. Vesicocentesis was performed in 15 fetuses and vesicoamniotic shunt was performed in 5 cases. There were 6 intrauterine fetal deaths (24%) and, among the 19 live births, 9 died soon after birth (36%) and 1 died in the post-neonatal period due to a non-nephron-urological cause. Nine newborns survived by one year of age (36%), seven of them with associated nephron- urological anomaly, and two were healthy patients. Two patients developed chronic kidney disease. The presence of pulmonary hypoplasia was the only factor associated with increased perinatal mor tality (p<0.05) secondary to oligohydramnios in all cases. Oligohydramnios was not identified as a prognostic factor in this study. Conclusions: The prenatal diagnosis of megacystis comprises a wide spectrum of pathologies including conditions with a high perinatal mortality rate to healthy fetuses with transient enlarged bladder without nephron-urological pathology. The only factor associated with increased perinatal mortality was pulmonary hypoplasia.

Resumen: El hallazgo de megavejiga en una ecografía prenatal sugiere una obstrucción mecánica o funcional al vaciamiento vesical, condición infrecuente y habitualmente de mal pronóstico. Objetivo: determinar factores asociados a sobrevida en pacientes con diagnóstico prenatal de megavejiga. Pacientes y Méto do: Estudio retrospectivo de fetos con diagnóstico prenatal de megavejiga, entre los años 2003 y 2018 en Centro de Referencia Perinatal Oriente (CERPO), Universidad de Chile. Se analizaron variables prenatales y postnatales, diagnóstico etiológico, hipoplasia pulmonar, tratamiento médico quirúrgico, mortalidad, función renal y terapia de reemplazo renal. La variable principal analizada fue la sobrevida al año, y las variables secundarias fueron la función renal y los factores predictores de sobrevida. Se rea lizó un análisis univariado con Test de U Mann Whitney y Fisher, y se definió como estadísticamente significativo un p < 0,05. Resultados: Se incluyeron 25 fetos con diagnóstico prenatal de megavejiga. El 52% presentó oligohidroamnios y un 84% alteraciones renales. Se realizó vesicocentesis diagnóstica en 15 fetos, con instalación de shunt derivativo vesicoamniótico en 5 casos. Hubo 6 mortinatos (24%), y de los 19 nacidos vivos 9 fallecieron en el período neonatal precoz (36%) y uno a los 8 meses de edad de causa no nefrourológica. Nueve pacientes sobrevivieron al año de vida (36%), 2 pacientes sanos sin alteración nefrourológica y 7 pacientes presentaron patología nefrourológica. Dos pacientes evolucio naron con enfermedad renal crónica terminal. Sólo la presencia de hipoplasia pulmonar se relacionó con mayor mortalidad perinatal (p < 0,05) asociada en todos los casos a oligohidroamnios. El oligo-hidroamnios no fue un factor de mal pronóstico en esta serie. Conclusiones: El diagnóstico prenatal de megavejiga comprende un amplio espectro de patologías, desde condiciones con alta mortalidad perinatal a pacientes sanos con dilatación vesical transitoria sin patología nefrourológica. Se identificó como único factor asociado a mayor mortalidad la presencia de hipoplasia pulmonar.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Suicide manifests itself through multiple behaviors, it begins with suicidal ideation and ends with suicide. Objective: To determine the factors associated with suicidal ideation in patients treated at a level of care at III-2 Hospital in Peru. Methods: Observational, analytical, transversal, quantitative study. The sampling was non-probabilistic for convenience; the sample consisted of 201 patients treated by an external psychiatric office of the Hospital Maria Auxiliadora, from January to February 2020. The survey technique, a data collection form, and the Beck Depression Inventory instrument were used. Results: From the total of 201 patients 46 (22.9%) had suicidal ideation, of them, 25 were young in age (54.3%), 27 females (58.7%), 27 single (58.6%), 32 born in Lima (69.7%), 43 received treatment longer than one year (93.5%), 42 had a regular to bad family relationships (91.3%), 33 consumed alcohol (71.7%), 26 tobacco (56.5%), and 16 drugs (34.8%). The factors associated with suicidal ideation in the bivariate analysis were young in age, males, born in Lima, single, with treatment time greater than one year and alcohol, Tobacco, and drug use (p<0.05). In the multivariate analysis, only drug use was associated (ORa: 11.31 95% CI: 2.05-62.46). Conclusion: Drug use is associated with suicidal ideation in patients treated at a level of care III-2 hospital.

RESUMEN Introducción: El suicidio se manifiesta por múltiples comportamientos, inicia con la ideación suicida y culmina con el suicidio. Objetivo: Determinar los factores asociados a ideación suicida en estos pacientes en pacientes atendidos en un hospital de nivel de atención III-2 de Perú. Métodos: Estudio observacional, analítico, transversal, de enfoque cuantitativo. El muestreo fue no probabilistico por conveniencia; conformaron la muestra 201 pacientes atendidos por consultorio externo de psiquiatría del Hospital María Auxiliadora, de enero a febrero 2020. Se utilizó la técnica de la encuesta, una ficha de recolección de datos y el instrumento fue la escala de Beck adaptada. Resultados: De los 201 pacientes, 46 (22,9%) tuvieron ideación suicida, de ellos, fueron jóvenes 25 (54,3%), de sexo femenino 27 (58,7%), no tenían pareja 27 (58,6%), nacieron en Lima 32 (69,7%), recibían tratamiento mayor a un año 43 (93,5%), tenían relación familiar regular a mala 42 (91,3%) y consumían alcohol 33 (71,7%), tabaco 26 (56,5%) y drogas 16 (34,8%). Los factores asociados a ideación suicida en el análisis bivariado fueron edad joven, sexo masculino, lugar de nacimiento Lima, estado civil sin pareja, tiempo de tratamiento mayor a un año y consumo de alcohol, tabaco y drogas (p <0,05); y en el análisis multivariado sólo se asoció el consumo de drogas (ORa: 11,31 IC 95%: 2,05-62,46). Conclusión: El consumo de drogas se encuentra asociado a ideación suicida en pacientes atendidos en un hospital de nivel de atención III-2.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Tobacco use is harmful to health, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) smoking is the cause of death for approximately 8 million people each year. Objective: The purpose of the research was to determine the factors associated with tobacco consumption in university students from Metropolitan Lima. Methods: The sample consisted of 447 students from different universities in Lima, a previously validated survey was applied: Fagerstrom test to measure tobacco consumption. Subsequently, the data was analyzed using distribution, frequency and contingency tables. In addition, regression statistical test was applied to obtain the prevalence ratios (PR) of the study variables in both bivariate and multivariate analyzes, with a 95% confidence interval (95% CI). Results: It was evidenced that there is a significant association between male sex and smoking (p = 0.01), with an RP = 1,67 and 95% CI = . It was also observed that having smoking parents was statistically associated with smoking in university students, with a value of p=0.00, and an RP=2,53 with a 95% CI = . No significant association was found between the variables age and social pressure. Conclusion: The variables sex and smoking parents have a significant association with tobacco consumption, emphasizing that both our family and academic environment deserve to be safe, healthy and free of tobacco smoke.

RESUMEN Introducción : El consumo de tabaco es perjudicial para la salud, según la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) el tabaquismo es la causa de muerte de aproximadamente 8 millones de personas cada año. Objetivo : El propósito de la investigación fue determinar los factores asociados al consumo de tabaco en estudiantes universitarios de Lima Metropolitana. Métodos : La muestra estuvo conformada por 447 estudiantes de diferentes universidades de Lima, se aplicó una encuesta previamente validada: Test de Fagerstrom para medir el consumo de tabaco. Posteriormente los datos fueron analizados utilizando tablas de distribución, frecuencias y contingencia. Además, se aplicó la prueba estadística regresión para obtener las razones de prevalencias (RP) de las variables de estudio tanto en el análisis bivariado como en el multivariado, con un intervalo de confianza al 95% (IC al 95%). Resultados : Se evidenció que existe asociación significativa entre el sexo masculino y el hábito de fumar (p=0,01), con un RP = 1,67 e IC al 95% = (1,03 - 2,23). También se pudo observar que tener padres fumadores estuvo estadísticamente asociado al hábito tabáquico en los universitarios, con un valor de p=0,00, y un RP = 2,53 con IC al 95% = (1,62 - 3,52). No se encontró asociación significativa entre las variables edad y presión social. Conclusión : Las variables sexo y padres fumadores tienen asociación significativa con el consumo de tabaco enfatizando que tanto nuestro entorno familiar como académico merece ser seguro, saludable y libre del humo de tabaco.

Objective: To determine the sociodemographic variables associated with depression in the elderly of Peru based on the information obtained through the Demographic and Family Health Survey (ENDES) of the year 2017 carried out by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI). Methods: An observational, correlational and cross-sectional study that used a probabilistic sample of 4917 older adults (60 years and over). For the determination of depression in the population, the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ) of 9 questions included in the health questionnaire in the mental health section of ENDES 2017 was used as an instrument. Results: The prevalence of depression in the Peruvian elderly in 2017 was 14.2%. As sociodemographic variables associated with depression were the female sex [OR 1.995 (1.684 -2.364)]; lack instruction [ORaj 2.524 (2.126-2996)]; the age over 75 years [ORaj 1.763 (1.494 2.080)]; live in a rural area [ORaj 1.410 (1.198 -1.659)]; and be poor [ORaj 1.456 (1.229 - 1.724)]. It was not associated with disability (p = 0.704). [ORaj 1.103 (0.663-1835)]. Conclusion: It was concluded that the prevalence of depression in the Peruvian adult is high. Among the sociodemographic variables that were identified as risk factors for presenting depression were female sex, lacking education, age over 75, living in rural areas and being poor.

Objetivo: Determinar las variables sociodemográficas asociadas a la depresión en el adulto mayor peruano a partir de la información obtenida mediante la Encuesta Demográfica y de Salud Familiar (ENDES) del año 2017 realizada por el Instituto Nacional de Estadística e Informática (INEI). Métodos: Estudio observacional, correlacional y de corte transversal que usó una muestra probabilística de 4917 adultos mayores (60 años a más). Para la determinación de depresión en la población se usó como instrumento el Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ) de 9 preguntas, incluido en el cuestionario de salud en la sección de salud mental del ENDES 2017. Resultados: La prevalencia de depresión en el adulto mayor peruano en el año 2017 fue de 14,2%. Como variables sociodemográficas asociadas a la depresión fueron el sexo femenino [ORaj 1,995 (1,684 -2,364)]; carecer de instrucción [ORaj 2,524 (2,126 - 2,996)]; la edad mayor de 75 años [ORaj 1,763 (1,494 - 2,080)]; vivir en una zona rural [ORaj 1,410 (1,198 -1,659)]; y ser pobre [ORaj 1,456 (1,229 - 1,724)]. No hubo asociación entre depresión y discapacidad (p=0,704). [ORaj 1,103 (0,663 - 1,835)]. Conclusión: La prevalencia de depresión en el adulto mayor peruano es alta. Las variables sociodemográficas que estuvieron asociadas como factores de riesgo para el desarrollo de depresión en el adulto mayor fueron de sexo femenino, el carecer de instrucción, edad mayor de 75 años, vivir en zona rural y ser pobre.

Introduction: Neonatal sepsis is one of the most important diseases of our country, it is necessary to know its risk factors in our country. Objetive: To determine the risk factors associated with early neonatal sepsis in preterm infants of the National Mother Teaching Hospital San Bartolomé in 2017. Methods: Case-control, observational, analytical, cross-sectional and retrospective study. will work with medical records. The dependent variable was early neonatal sepsis. We worked with a sample size of 62 cases and 124 controls (ratio 1: 2). The data was obtained from the medical records. For inferential statistics, bivariate analysis was used to find the Odds Ratio with their respective 95% confidence intervals. Values p <0,05 wereconsidered statistically significant. Results: Of the 186 patients studied, 53.8% were female. The factors associated with early neonatal sepsis were: low birth weight -ORa: 4.031 (95% CI: 1.743-9.318); age 35 to over -ORa: 2.729 (95% CI: 1.266-5.88); less than 6 prenatal controls -ORa: 3.315 (IC95%: 1.452-7.567); urinary tract infection (UTI) in the 3rd quarter -ORa: 2.947 (95% CI: 1.063-8.174); meconial fluid -ORa: 5.822 (95% CI: 1.92-17.653) and premature rupture of membranes -ORa: 2.789 (95% CI: 1.0357.511). Discussion: A significant association has been found between early neonatal sepsis and low birth weight, age 35 to more, fewer than 6 prenatal controls, UTI in the third trimester, meconium fluid and premature rupture of membranes.

Introducción: La sepsis neonatal es una de las enfermedades más importantes de nuestro País, es necesario conocer sus factores de riesgo. Objetivo: Determinar los factores asociados a sepsis neonatal temprana en prematuros del Hospital Nacional Docente Madre Niño San Bartolomé en el año 2017. Métodos: Estudio de casos y controles, observacional, analítico de corte transversal y retrospectivo. La población consta de 210 recién nacidos prematuros del Hospital Nacional Docente Madre Niño San Bartolomé, año 2017. La variable dependiente fue la sepsis neonatal temprana. Se trabajó con un tamaño muestral de 62 casos y 124 controles (ratio 1:2).Los datos se obtuvieron de las historias clínicas. Para la estadística inferencial se utilizó el análisis bivariado para hallar los Odds Ratio con sus respectivos intervalos de confianza al 95%. Se consideró p<0,05 como estadísticamente significativo. Resultados: De los 186 pacientes estudiados, 53,8% fueron del sexo femenino. Los factores asociados a sepsis neonatal temprana fueron: bajo peso al nacer -ORa: 4,031 (IC95%: 1,743-9,318); edad de 35 a más -ORa: 2,729 (IC95%: 1,266-5,88); menos de 6 controles prenatales -ORa: 3,315 (IC95%: 1,452-7,567); infección del tracto urinario en el 3er trimestre -ORa: 2.947 (IC95%: 1,063-8,174); líquido meconial -ORa: 5,822 (IC95%: 1,92-17,653) y ruptura prematura de membranas -ORa: 2.789 (IC95%: 1,035-7,511). Discusión: Se ha encontrado una asociación significativa entre sepsis neonatal temprana y bajo peso al nacer, edad de 35 a más, menos de 6 controles prenatales, infección del tracto urinario en el 3er trimestre, líquido meconial y ruptura prematura de membranas.

ABSTRACT INTRODUCTION By the end of 2017, there were more than 28,000 individuals living with HIV in Cuba, over 80% receiving antiretroviral therapy, which dramatically reduces viral replication, improves immune status and decreases risk of transmission. These results could be jeopardized by emergence of HIV-1 drug resistance. In 2009, a test for HIV-1 genotypic resistance was introduced in routine clinical practice in Cuba. OBJECTIVE Investigate antiretroviral resistance and its relation to subtype distribution in HIV-1 treatment-naïve and previously treated patients in Cuba. METHODS Resistance and HIV-1 subtype distribution were determined in 342 antiretroviral treatment-naïve patients and 584 previously treated for HIV-1 whose blood specimens were sent to the Pedro Kourí Tropical Medicine Institute during 2009–2014. Transmitted drug resistance was determined using the Calibrated Population Resistance Tool v.6. Drug resistance analysis was conducted using the algorithm Rega v9.1.0. RESULTS Prevalence of transmitted drug resistance was 11.4%, and 41% of mutated viruses exhibited dual-class resistance to nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor and non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor. Overall, 84.9% of patients had ≥1 resistance mutation, 80% had ≥1 nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor mutation, 71.4% had ≥1 non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor mutation and 31.7% had ≥1 protease inhibitor mutation. K65R and K101E mutations were significantly more frequent in subtype C, L210W in CRF19_cpx, and M47V/I in CRF BGs (20, 23, 24). Full class resistance to nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors, non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors, protease inhibitors and multidrug resistance were detected in 21.2%, 32.4%, 8% and 4.1% of patients, respectively. Average percentage resistance to nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor, protease inhibitor, full class resistance to nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor, protease inhibitor and multidrug resistance increased in patients failing two or more regimens. Nevertheless, after 2011, a declining trend was observed in the frequency of multidrug resistance and full class resistance to nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors and protease inhibitors. CONCLUSIONS Detected levels of transmitted drug resistance highlight the need for a national surveillance study in treatment-naïve patients. Resistance prevalence is high in previously treated patients but appears to be decreasing over time. The frequency of resistance mutations in recombinant forms of HIV in Cuba needs further study.

Background The international recommendations of antiretroviral treatment include resistance tests to guide the treatment regimen in each patient, which is not available on a regular basis in Ecuador. Aim To describe mutations that confer resistance to antiretrovirals in a population of Ecuadorian patients. Methods Plasma samples from 101 HIV-1 patients with failure to antiretroviral therapy, divided into 15 children and 86 adults, were studied with the GS Junior (Roche) and the sequences were analyzed with the DeepChek program. Results The most frequent mutations were M184V/I, K101E/P/H, K103N/S, D30N, M46L/I, I54L/M, V82T/F/A/S/L and L90M in adults and F77L, K103N/S, M46L/I, V82T/F/A/S/L and L90M in children. High resistance to non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase (RT) inhibitors in minority viral populations of adults and children (34.9% and 70%) was detected; in children both viral populations (majority and minority viral populations) (> 45%) were protease inhibitor resistant. Patients who had a greater number of therapeutic regimens had higher levels of resistance to antiretrovirals. Most of the samples were subtype B in the TR and protease region, and CRF25_cpx in integrase. Conclusions Mutations and resistance to antiretrovirals are shown in a population of Ecuadorian patients with HIV-1. These results will make it possible to issue a warning to health authorities about the need for resistance studies.

Resumen Introducción Las recomendaciones internacionales de tratamiento anti-retroviral incluyen pruebas de resistencia para orientar el régimen de tratamiento en cada paciente, lo que no está disponible de forma estable en Ecuador. Objetivo Describir las mutaciones que confieren resistencia a anti-retrovirales en una población de pacientes ecuatorianos. Metodología A partir de muestras de plasma de 101 pacientes con VIH-1 con fallo a la terapia anti-retroviral, 15 niños y 86 adultos, se realizó pirosecuenciación con el GS Junior (Roche) y se analizaron las secuencias con el programa DeepChek. Resultados Las mutaciones más frecuentes fueron M184V/I, K101E/P/H, K103N/S, D30N, M46L/I, I54L/M, V82T/F/A/S/L y L90M en adultos, y F77L, K103N/S, M46L/I, V82T/F/A/S/L y L90M en niños. Se encontró una elevada resistencia a los inhibidores de la transcriptasa reversa (TR) no análogos de nucleósidos en poblaciones minoritarias virales de adultos y niños (34,9 y 70%, respectivamente), en los niños, tanto las poblaciones virales mayoritarias como minoritarias, fueron resistente a inhibidores de proteasa (> 45%). Los pacientes que tuvieron un mayor número de esquemas terapéuticos presentaron mayores niveles de resistencia a los anti-retrovirales. La mayoría de las muestras fueron del subtipo B en la región de la TR y proteasa, y CRF25_cpx en integrasa. Conclusiones Se muestran las mutaciones y la resistencia a antiretrovirales en una población de pacientes ecuatorianos con infección por VIH-1, que permitirán realizar un llamado de alerta a las autoridades de salud sobre la necesidad de realizar estudios de resistencia.

INTRODUCTION Cytomegalovirus and herpes simplex virus are associated with congenital or perinatal infection, causing potential damage to the newborn. OBJECTIVES Determine the prevalence of active or latent infection by cytomegalovirus and herpes simplex virus in a population of mothers, congenital infection by these agents in their infants, and association between prevalence of virus infection in mothers and in their newborns. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted from June to September 2012 in a population of 95 pregnant women admitted to the Dr Ramón González Coro University Maternity Hospital during the third trimester of pregnancy, and their infants (98). Patients were tested for antibodies specific to these viruses; vaginal swabs and urine from the women and serum and urine from the newborns were tested for viral genome. The Fisher exact test with 95% confidence interval was used for comparisons. RESULTS Of the women studied, 89.5% tested positive for cytomegalovirus and 83.2% for herpes simplex. Active infection from cytomegalovirus was detected in 16.7%, and from herpes simplex in 3.2%. Congenital cytomegalovirus infection was detected in 4.1% of newborns; no herpes simplex virus infection was found in this group. Two newborns of women with active cytomegalovirus infection were congenitally infected. CONCLUSIONS Serology demonstrated that most of the women were immune to both viruses. Active cytomegalovirus infections are common in this population, and newborns of women with active cytomegalovirus infection during pregnancy are at increased risk of congenital infection.

Objetivo. Evaluar la dinámica serológica contra el virus de bronquitis infecciosa aviar y su relación con la presentación y/o antecedentes de signos clínicos y hallazgos patológicos, bajo condiciones de campo. Materiales y métodos. Se realizó un muestreo al azar en dos fases, en pollo de engorde y reproductoras de granjas del Departamento de Cundinamarca. En la primera fase se tomó muestra de sangre a un total de 224 aves, distribuidas en 7 granjas. En la segunda fase, realizada 20 días posteriores al primer muestreo, se tomó una segunda muestra al mismo número de aves empleadas inicialmente. Las muestras de los sueros obtenidos se emplearon para la realización del inmunoensayo ligado a enzima (ELISA), diseñado para detectar anticuerpos frente al virus de la bronquitis infecciosa aviar en suero sanguíneo. Resultados. Se obtuvo que del total de las granjas analizadas el 85.72% mostró reactividad serológica al virus de la Bronquitis Infecciosa aviar (VBIA), con correlación ante la presencia de los signos clínicos o antecedentes respiratorios en granja.

Evaluate the serological dynamics against avian infectious bronchitis virus and its relationship with the presentation and / or a history of clinical signs and pathological findings, under field conditions. Materials and methods. A random sampling was conducted in two phases, in broiler and breeder farms located in the Department of Cundinamarca. In the first phase blood sample were taken from a total of 224 birds, distributed over the 7 farms. In the second phase, carried out 20 days after the first, a second sample was collected from the same number of birds used in the first phase. The serum samples were used to carry out the enzyme linked immunoassay (ELISA) intended to detect antibodies against avian infectious bronchitis virus in blood serum. Results. As a result it was found that from the total farms analyzed the 85.72% showed serologic reactivity against Avian Infectious Bronchitis Virus (AIBV) that correlated to the presence of clinical signs or previous history of respiratory disease in the farm.

Introduction: Chlamydia trachomatis is the leading bacterial agent that causes sexually transmitted infections. Objective: to detect the presence of C. trachomatis using a rapid test and compare it with the chain reaction (PCR). Methods: 50 endocervical exudates taken from symptomatic women were processed in Diez de October municipality. The samples were applied the Chlamy-check-1 test, a PCR assay of the cryptic plasmid gene and a real-time PCR (RT-PCR) of major outer membrane protein (MOMP) of C. trachomatis which was used as reference. Sensitivity, specificity, positive (PPV) and negative (NPV) predictive value were calculated. Results: 44 samples were positive by the rapid test, whereas only three samples (6%) amplified by cryptic plasmid PCR. Applying RT-PCR, 4 samples (8%) were confirmed as positive, 3 samples matched with three diagnostic methods. In assessing the Chlamy-check-1 versus the reference test, 100% of sensitivity was observed, while the specificity was 13%> Also PPV was 9.1% and NPV was 100%. On the contrary, the cryptic plasmid PCR had 75 and 100% of sensitivity and specificity respectively, 100% PPV and 97.9% NPV. Conclusions: the difference was obtained between the percentages of positivity detected with both the rapid test, and CPR techniques. The low specificity of the rapid test indicates the need for further studies to evaluate this diagnostic kit.

Introducción: Chlamydia trachomatis es el principal agente bacteriano que produce infecciones de transmisión sexual. Objetivo: detectar la presencia de C. trachomatis utilizando una prueba de diagnóstico rápido y compararla con la reacción en cadena de la polimerasa (RCP). Métodos: se procesaron 50 muestras de exudado endocervical, de mujeres sintomáticas del municipio 10 de Octubre. A las muestras se les aplicó la prueba Chlamy-check-1, un ensayo de RCP del gen del plásmido críptico y una RCP en tiempo real (RCP-TR) de la proteína mayor de la membrana externa (MOMP) de C. trachomatis, que fue utilizada como referencia. Se calculó, sensibilidad, especificidad, valor predictivo positivo (VPP) y negativo (VPN). Resultados: de las muestras estudiadas, 44 resultaron positivas por la prueba rápida, mientras que por la RCP del plásmido críptico solo 3 muestras (6 %) amplificaron. Al aplicar la RCP-TR, 4 muestras (8 %) se confirmaron como positivas, coincidiendo 3 por los tres métodos de diagnóstico. Al evaluar la prueba Chlamy-check-1 frente a la prueba de referencia se observó una sensibilidad de 100 %, mientras que la especificidad fue de 13 %, así como un VPP de 9,1 % y VPN de 100 %. Por el contrario, la RCP del plásmido críptico mostró una sensibilidad y especificidad de 75 y 100 %, respectivamente; un VPP de 100 % y VPN de 97,9 %. Conclusiones: se obtuvo diferencia entre los porcentajes de positividad detectados con la prueba rápida, y las técnicas de RCP. La baja especificidad de la prueba rápida indica la necesidad de realizar estudios de evaluación de este estuche diagnóstico.

Introduction: there is not enough evidence that relates the response to treatment with the pattern of autoantibodies or their concentration on red blood cells in patients with autoimmune hemolytic anemia. Objective: to investigate the association of the response to treatment and the remission of the disease with the concentration of IgG autoantibodies on red blood cells at the beginning of the disease. Methods: a retrospective study in 44 adult patients with idiopathic warm autoimmune hemolytic anemia with only IgG autoantibodies was carried out in order to relate the response to treatment to the immunoprotein pattern of red blood cells, the IgG autoantibodies concentration on red blood cells, the hemoglobin level and the reticulocyte count. Results: association was not observed between the immunoprotein pattern, the hemoglobin level, the reticulocyte count and the quantitation of IgG on red blood cells, with the response to treatment with prednisone, administration of second-line treatment and the remission of the disease; although, the number of IgG molecules on red blood cells was 1,4 times higher in patients with no remission of the disease to those with remission. Conclusions: the immunoprotein pattern, the hemoglobin level, the reticulocyte count and the quantitation of IgG on red blood cells at the beginning of the disease are not a prognostic marker of the response to treatment.

Introducción: no existen suficientes evidencias que relacionen la respuesta al tratamiento con el patrón de autoanticuerpos o su concentración en los hematíesde los pacientes con anemia hemolítica autoinmune. Objetivo: en este trabajo se investigó la asociación entre la respuesta al tratamiento y la remisión de la enfermedad con la concentración de autoanticuerpos IgG en los hematíes al inicio de la enfermedad. Métodos: se realizó un estudio retrospectivo de 44 pacientes adultos con anemia hemolitica autoinmune caliente idiopática por presencia únicamente de autoanticuerpos IgG donde se relacionó la respuesta al tratamiento con el patrón de inmunoproteínas en los hematíes, la concentración de autoanticuerpos IgG en los hematíes, las cifras de hemoglobina y el conteo de reticulocitos. Resultados: no se observó asociación entre el patrón de inmunoproteínas en los hematíes, las cifras de hemoglobina, el conteo de reticulocitos y la cuantificación de IgG en los hematíes, con la respuesta al tratamiento con prednisona, la administración de tratamiento de segunda línea ni con la remisión de la enfermedad, aunque el número de moléculas de IgG por hematíe fue 1,4 veces superior en los pacientes sin remisión en relación con los casos con remisión de la enfermedad. Conclusiones: el patrón de inmunoproteínas en los hematíes, las cifras de hemoglobina, el conteo de reticulocitos y la cuantificación de IgG en los hematíes al inicio de la enfermedad, no es un marcador pronóstico de respuesta al tratamiento.

Se emplearon herramientas de software de simulación como Aspen Plus y MATLAB para el modelado, simulación y optimización de un proceso de destilación para recuperar epóxido de limoneno a partir de una mezcla líquida que contiene limoneno + acetonitrilo + agua + epóxido de limoneno. Esta mezcla se obtiene de la epoxidación de limoneno sobre PW-Amberlita utilizando peróxido de hidrógeno acuoso como oxidante y acetonitrilo como disolvente. Los análisis de curvas de composición residual indicaron que las columnas de destilación por lotes de configuración inversa son adecuadas para separar el epóxido de limoneno. Los parámetros del modelo, como el número de etapas (8) y la relación de reflujo (3,1) se determinaron mediante simulaciones de estado estacionario con modelos cortos y rigurosos de Aspen Plus. La simulación del equipo por lotes en Aspen Plus mostró que es posible recuperar hasta el 95 % del epóxido de limoneno con una fracción molar de 0,97 después de 7,5 h. Con fines comparativos, la destilación por lotes también se simuló con un modelo semirriguroso construido en MATLAB, con el cual se lograron resultados similares.

Aspen Plus and MATLAB software simulation tools were employed for modeling, simulation and optimization of a distillation process to recover limonene epoxide from a liquid mixture containing limonene + acetonitrile + water + limonene epoxide. This mixture is obtained from limonene epoxidation over PW-Amberlite using aqueous hydrogen peroxide as oxidant and acetonitrile as solvent. Analyses of residue curve maps indicate that batch distillation columns of inverse configuration are adequate to separate limonene epoxide. The model parameters, i.e., the number of stages (8) and the reflux ratio (3,1) were determined by steady state simulations with short-cut models and rigorous models from Aspen Plus. Aspen Plus simulation of the batch distillation operation showed that it is possible to recover up to 95 % limonene epoxide with a molar fraction of 0,97 after 7,5 h. For comparison purposes, the batch distillation operation was also simulated with a semi-rigorous MATLAB model and similar results were obtained.

Esta mistura obtém-se da epoxidação de limoneno sobre PW-Amberlita utilizando peróxido de hidrogênio aquoso como oxidante e acetonitrilo como disolvente. The objective of the present study is to standardize a real-time based polymerase chain reaction system in order to detect and quantify 7 high risk human papillomavirus in different clinical samples from patients suspected of this type of infection. The validation of a 5´ exonuclease fluorescent probe real-time PCR assay (TaqMan format) for the detection and quantification of the 7 most frequent HR-HPV types (16, 18, 31, 33, 45, and 58) which account for over 87% of cervical carcinomas world-wide was carried out. Simultaneous PCR reactions are required to detect the designated HPV types. Specificity tests for each HPV type and other DNA viruses were performed. Standard external curve constructions were achieved, which allow determining the number of target DNA copies in the previously HPV tested samples. HPV 16 and 18 standard curves were obtained from purified genomic DNA of SiHa and HeLa cell lines, respectively. The pattern curves were constructed on the basis of each of the resulting standard DNA, which showed good linear correlation (r = -0, 99) and low error values. The lower detection limit was 10 copies for both HPV 16 and 18. No cross reactions between HPV types and other DNA viruses were observed. Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction system, standardized for 7 HPV types, proved to be a rapid, specific and highly sensitive system for better diagnosis and follow-up of patients with high grade intraepithelial lesions. In addition, this assay will allow the development of coming researches in relation with the prevalence and pathogenesis of human papillomavirus infections in different samples from Cuban patients.

El objetivo de este trabajo fue normalizar e implementar un sistema de reacción en cadena de la polimerasa en tiempo real, para determinar la carga viral de 7 genotipos de papilomavirus humano (PVH) de alto riesgo oncogénico. Se evaluó la especificidad del sistema y se construyeron las curvas estándar para PVH 16 y 18, que se emplearon para la cuantificación de ADN viral en diferentes muestras de pacientes identificados como positivos a PVH, mediante reacción en cadena de la polimerasa (RCP) cualitativa y secuenciación nucleotídica. Se obtuvieron dos curvas estándar para PVH 16 y 18, a partir del ADN genómico de las líneas celulares SiHa y HeLa, las que mostraron una buena correlación lineal ( r = -0,99) y valores bajos de error. El límite inferior de detección a partir del ADN de las líneas celulares fue de hasta 10 copias para ambos genotipos. No se obtuvo reacción cruzada entre los diferentes tipos de PVH ni con otros virus ADN. La reacción en cadena de la polimerasa en tiempo real (RCP-TR) normalizada probó ser un sistema simple, rápido, específico y altamente sensible. Además, permitirá desarrollar investigaciones sobre la prevalencia de infección por PVH en Cuba, con vistas a la aplicación de las vacunas que se encuentran disponibles en el mercado internacional, así como la evaluación de otros candidatos vacunales diseñados en el futuro.
