Abstract Pneumonic pathologies are clinically important in alpaca breeding; however, there is little information about pneumonic types and bacterial causes. The objective is to characterize pneumonias and bacteria causing pneumonias in neonates of dead alpacas in high Andean communities of Huancavelica, Peru. We sampled 365 dead alpaca pups under 45 days of age, from 10 communities, 216 of them were taken tracheal swabs for microbiological studies with peptone buffer because they were cases of pneumonia. Macroscopic identification of pneumonias was done by photodocumentation test. Pasteurellamultocida, Mannheimia haemolytica were grown on Colombia agar enriched with alpaca blood; Streptococcus pneumoniae on Brain Heart Infusion agar supplemented with alpaca blood and identified by morphological and microscopic characterization, biochemical reactions and optokine. It was found 59.8% of mortality due to pneumonia and 40.2% by other causes, characterizing pneumonia by inflammation 55.1%, 44.9% by lesion and subtypes: Exudative 9.5%, Suppurative 3.8%, Proliferative 42.3%, Lobar 17.8%, Interstitial 26.6%, isolating strains Streptococcus pneumoniae 43.7%, Mannheimia haemolytica 14.9%, Pasteurella multocida 20.9%, predominant associates Streptococcus pneumoniae-Pasteurella multocida 10.7%. High frequency of types and subtypes of pneumonia associated to Gram (+) bacteria were observed as causal of pneumonia in alpaca pups, with predominance in three high Andean communities of Huancavelica, Peru.

Resumen Las patologías neumónicas son de importancia clínica en crianza de alpacas; sin embargo, el conocimiento de tipos neumónicos y las causas bacterianas es muy limitado. El objetivo es caracterizar las neumonías y las bacterias causantes de neumonías en neonatos de alpacas muertas en comunidades altoandinas de Huancavelica, Perú. La muestra consistió en 365 crías muertas de alpacas menores de 45 días de edad, procedentes de 10 comunidades; se tomaron hisopados traqueales en 216 de ellas para estudios microbiológicos con buffer peptonada por resultar casos de neumonías. La identificación macroscópica de neumonías se hizo mediante el test foto documentador. Se cultivaron la Pasteurellamultocida y Mannheimiahaemolytica en agar Colombia enriquecidas con sangre de alpaca; Streptococcus pneumoniae en agar Infusión Cerebro Corazón suplementadas con sangre de alpaca e identificadas mediante caracterización morfológica, microscópica, reacciones bioquímicas y optoquina. Se encontraron 59,8% de mortalidad por neumonía y 40,2% por otras causas, caracterizándose neumonía por inflamación 55,1%; 44,9% por lesión y subtipos: Exudativa 9,5%, Supurativa 3,8%, Proliferativa 42,3%, Lobar 17,8%, Intersticial 26,6%, aislándose cepas de Streptococcus pneumoniae 43,7%, Mannheimiahaemolytica 14,9%, Pasteurellamultocida 20,9%, asociadas con Streptococcus pneumoniae-Pasteurella multocida 10,7%. Se evidenció una alta frecuencia de tipos, subtipos de neumonías asociados a bacterias Gram (+) como causales de neumonías en crías de alpaca con predomino en tres comunidades altoandinas de Huancavelica, Perú.

Abstract The research was aimed at determining the effect of Plantago major L. (Plantaginaceae) on the regeneration capacity of Girardia festae (Dugesiidae), for which 5 concentrations (0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%) of aqueous extract of the plant were prepared from a proportion of 4g/L. A completely randomized block experimental design was developed, where 7 types of fragments took the role of blocks and were obtained by 3 different cuts (upper and lower; cephalic, middle and caudal; right and left). After being exposed to concentrations of Plantago major L., the time in hours of complete regeneration of the specimens was evaluated. Optical microscopy allowed the reading of regeneration times, determining that treatments 4 and 5 (75% and 100% of Plantago major L. respectively) significantly promoted the regeneration process in Girardia festae; likewise, it was observed that the upper fragment reached regeneration to a complete individual in less time (131.6 hours). The variance analysis showed the presence of significant differences between the treatments and the mean comparison test established the existence of different homogeneous groups.

Resumen La investigación estuvo orientada a determinar el efecto de Plantago major L. (Plantaginaceae) sobre la capacidad de regeneración de Girardia festae (Dugesiidae), para lo cual se prepararon 5 concentraciones (0%, 25%, 50%, 75% y 100%) del extracto acuoso del vegetal a partir de una proporción de 4g/L. Se desarrolló un diseño experimental en bloques completamente aleatorizado, donde 7 tipos de fragmentos obtenidos por 3 cortes diferentes (superior e inferior; cefálico, medio y caudal; derecho e izquierdo) tomaron el papel de bloques. Luego de ser expuestos a las concentraciones de Plantago major L. se procedió a evaluar el tiempo en horas de la regeneración completa de los ejemplares. La microscopía óptica permitió la lectura de los tiempos de regeneración, determinándose que los tratamientos 4 y 5 (75% y 100% de Plantago major L. respectivamente) promovieron de manera significativa el proceso de regeneración en Girardia festae; asimismo, se observó que el fragmento superior alcanzó la regeneración a individuo completo en menor tiempo (131.6 horas). El análisis de varianza demostró la presencia de diferencias significativas entre los tratamientos y el test de comparación de medias estableció la existencia de diferentes grupos homogéneos.

ABSTRACT Introduction: The measles-mumps-rubella vaccine is administered in Cuba with 99% vaccination coverage. Currently, the low immunogenicity of the strain of mumps with which it is manufactured is raised, so it is important to ensure the effectiveness of vaccines and their protective immune response. Objectives: Evaluate the behavior of the anti-rubella, anti-mumps and anti-measles antibody indices according to age, and to analyze the variation of the anti-mumps antibody response with respect to previous studies. Materials and methods: Serum and cerebro-spinal fluid samples from 42 pediatric patients with neuro-inflammatory processes were studied and total IgG and albumin and specific antibodies against the three viruses were quantified from immunoenzymatic assays ELISA type. Corresponding reibergrams and specific antibody indices were performed. Results: A sustained increase in antibodies against the ethree immunogens was observed in general, without significant differences due to age or notable post-vaccination changes. There was a decrease in the antibody index as it moved away from the date of revaccination, so surveillance should be maintained in these age groups. The rate of production of anti-mumps antibodies was higher than against the other viruses, although not significantly. Conclusions: This vaccine guarantees protection by the uniformity of the memory induced immune response in all age groups. An increase in the protection of the studied population against mumps was demonstrated with respect to previous studies.

RESUMEN Introducción: La vacuna contra sarampión-parotiditis-rubéola es administrada en Cuba con un 99 % de cobertura vacunal. Actualmente se plantea la baja inmunogenicidad de la cepa de parotiditis con que se fabrica por lo que resulta importante velar por la eficacia de las vacunas y su respuesta inmune protectora. Objetivos: Evaluar el comportamiento de los índices de anticuerpo antirubéola, antiparotiditis y antisarampión de acuerdo con la edad, y analizar la variación de la respuesta de anticuerpos antiparotiditis con respecto a estudios anteriores. Materiales y métodos: Se estudiaron muestras de suero y líquido cefalorraquídeo de 42 pacientes pediátricos con procesos neuroinflamatorios y se les cuantificó IgG total y albúmina y anticuerpos específicos contra los tres virus a partir de ensayos innmunoenzimáticos tipo ELISA. Se realizaron los reibergramas correspondientes e índices de anticuerpos específicos. Resultados: Se observó un incremento sostenido de anticuerpos contra los tres inmunógenos de forma general, sin diferencias significativas por razones de edad ni cambios notables posrevacunación. Existió un decrecimiento del índice de anticuerpos a medida que se alejaba de la fecha de revacunación por lo que se debe mantener una vigilancia en esos grupos de edades. La velocidad de producción de anticuerpos antiparotiditis fue mayor que frente a los otros virus, aunque no de forma significativa. Conclusiones: Esta vacuna garantiza protección por la uniformidad de la respuesta inmune de memoria inducida en todos los grupos de edades. Se demostró un aumento de protección de la población estudiada frente a la parotiditis con respecto a estudios previos.

ABSTRACT Introduction: The Cuban national vaccination scheme has a coverage of more than 99% of the population, and includes the measles-mumps-rubella vaccine. Therefore, in the presence of a neuroinflammatory process, a broad intrathecal synthesis of measles, mumps and rubella antibodies takes place which makes it possible to conduct neuroepidemiological evaluations of the vaccination campaigns and the bias of extreme cases, from an immunological perspective. Objectives: Correlate the measles, mumps and rubella antibody index with associated autoimmune processes and in the identification of patients with possible immunodeficiencies in the study sample. Methods: An applied cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted of 42 children attending the emergency services of Havana children's hospitals in the period 2015-2018. The sample was divided according to the three antibody index intervals: smaller than or equal to 0.6, from 0.6 to 1.5, and greater than or equal to 1.5. Extreme segments were examined to detect patients with possible autoimmunity (greater than or equal to 1.5) and immunodeficiency (the interval below a standard deviation was taken as reference). Results: 75% of the group with an antibody index greater than or equal to 1.5 was positive to the MRZ reaction, indicative of an active autoimmune disease. In the group with an antibody index lower than or equal to 0.6, the prevailing clinical status showed a prevalence of tumoral and infectious diseases associated to a high hospitalization index, a positive immunodeficiency test and low serum IgG levels. Conclusions: It is possible to identify pediatric patients with autoimmune disorders and suspicion of immunodeficiencies applying the strategy of neuroepidemiological evaluation of the measles, mumps and rubella antibody indices.

RESUMEN Introducción: El esquema nacional de vacunación cubano presenta coberturas superiores al 99 % que incluye la vacuna contra parotiditis, rubéola y sarampión. Así, cuando existe un proceso neuroinflamatorio se produce una amplia síntesis intratecal de anticuerpos antiparotiditis, antirubéola y antisarampión, que permite realizar evaluaciones neuroepidemiológicas de las campañas de vacunación y el sesgo de casos extremos, desde el punto de vista inmunológico. Objetivos: Correlacionar el índice de anticuerpos antirubéola, antiparotiditis y antisarampión con procesos autoinmunes asociados y en la identificación de posibles pacientes con inmunodeficiencias en la muestra estudiada. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio aplicado y descriptivo de corte transversal en 42 niños evaluados en los servicios de cuerpo de guardia de los hospitales pediátricos de La Habana del 2015 al 2018. La muestra fue dividida según los tres intervalos del índice de anticuerpos (menor o igual a 0,6; de 0,6 a 1,5 y mayor o igual a 1,5). Se procedió a detectar en los segmentos extremos pacientes con posible autoinmunidad (mayor o igual a 1,5) e inmunodeficiencia (se tomó el intervalo inferior a una desviación estándar). Resultados: En el grupo con índice de anticuerpos mayor o igual a 1,5, el 75 % fue positivo a la reacción MRZ, indicativo de una enfermedad autoinmune activa. En el grupo con índice de anticuerpos menor o igual a 0,6 preponderó una clínica con prevalencia de enfermedades tumorales e infecciosas asociadas a un alto índice de hospitalización, test de inmunodeficiencia positivo y bajos niveles de IgG en suero. Conclusiones: Es posible identificar pacientes pediátricos con desórdenes autoinmunes y sospecha de inmunodeficiencias, a partir de la estrategia de la evaluación neuroepidemiológica de los índices de anticuerpos antiparotiditis, antirubéola y antisarampión.

Abstract: Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate how pediatricians in emergency departments in Bogotá, Colombia use clinical prediction rules in traumatic brain injury (TBI), by. Material and methods: This was a survey applied to 80 pediatricians assigned to five pediatric emergency departments. Participants were invited via email. Under informed consent, a virtual questionnaire consisting of 12 questions was applied between November 2018 and February 2019. Results: Of the total, 62.5% said they used any of the rules or clinical algorithm. Not aware of these guidelines was the most frequent reason for not to use them. It was noted that there is no well-defined criteria for deciding performing tomography skull in mild TBI. Conclusion: Strengthen education seems necessary to unify the medical decisions around the TBI in children, in order to improve the quality of care and costs.

Resumen: Introducción: El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar la utilización de las reglas de predicción clínica en trauma craneoencefálico (TCE), por parte de médicos pediatras en departamentos de urgencias de Bogotá D.C., Colombia. Material y métodos: Se trató de una encuesta realizada a 80 pediatras adscritos a cinco departamentos de urgencias pediátricas. La invitación a participar fue a través de correo electrónico. Entre noviembre de 2018 y febrero de 2019 se aplicó un cuestionario virtual conformado por 12 preguntas, previo consentimiento informado. Resultados: El 62.5% respondió que utilizaba alguna de las reglas o algoritmo de predicción clínica. El desconocimiento de estas guías fue la razón más frecuente para no utilizarlas. Se observó que no hay criterios bien definidos para decidir la realización de tomografía de cráneo en TCE leve Conclusión: Parece necesario fortalecer la capacitación para unificar el actuar médico en torno al TCE en niños, a fin de mejorar la calidad de atención y los costos de atención.

ABSTRACT Achatina (Lissachatina) fulica was introduced in Cuba in 2014 for african religious purposes and nowadays, mainly by human activity, it is widespread all over the country and, where besides a general nuisance for people it is a pest and also a public health concern, since it is one of the natural intermediate host of Angiostrongylus cantonensis, ethiological agent of the meningoencephalitis. As in Havana is experiencing the explosive phase of the invasion, LABCEL has been receiving samples of these molluscs for identification and search for Angiostrongylus cantonensis larvae. While examining samples of A. fulica different larvae were obtained, as strongylides found in the interior of the pallial cavity of A. fulica.This is the first report in San Miguel del Padron and Regla municipalities of the development of larvae in A. Fulica evidencing the health importance of this mollusc in the potential transmission of eosinophilic meningoencephalitis. Since the spread of A. fulica is pointed out in the literature as one of the main causative spread of the meningoencephalitis caused by A. cantonensis the authors emphasize the need of sanitary vigilance of snails and rats from vulnerable areas for A. cantonensis introduction as the port side areas like these municipalities.

RESUMEN Achatina (Lissachatina) fulica se introdujo en Cuba en 2014 con fines religiosos africanos y hoy en día, principalmente por actividad humana, está muy extendida en todo el país y, además de una molestia general para las personas, es una plaga y también un problema de salud pública, ya que es uno de los huéspedes intermedios naturales de Angiostrongylus cantonensis, agente etiológico de la meningoencefalitis. Como en La Habana está experimentando la fase explosiva de la invasión, LABCEL ha estado recibiendo muestras de estos moluscos para su identificación y búsqueda de larvas de Angiostrongylus cantonensis. Mientras se examinaban muestras de A. fulica, se obtuvieron diferentes larvas, como strongylides encontrados en el interior de la cavidad paliar de A. fulica. Este es el primer informe en los municipios de San Miguel del Padrón y Regla sobre el desarrollo de larvas en A. Fulica evidenciando La importancia para la salud de este molusco en la transmisión potencial de la meningoencefalitis eosinofílica. Dado que la propagación de A. fulica se señala en la literatura como una de las principales causas de la meningoencefalitis causada por A. cantonensis, los autores enfatizan la necesidad de vigilancia sanitaria de caracoles y ratas de áreas vulnerables para la introducción de A. cantonensis como zonas de babor como estos municipios.

ABSTRACT Introduction: During the neuroinflammatory processes there are a poly-specific and polyclonal activation in the cerebrospinal fluid. It means that there can be quantified antibodies against all the components of the vaccines may have received. Objective: To evaluate the immune response against measles, mumps and rubella in vaccinated pediatric patients. Methods: All the serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) paired samples from pediatric patients with neurological symptoms, that were submitted to hospitals from Havana City and were performed a lumbar puncture, were collected. Serum and CSF IgG, albumin were measured by immune-diffusion techniques using NOR and LC Partigen Immunoplates (Siemens, Marburg) and specific antibodies against measles, mumps and rubella were quantified by ELISA kits (Enzygnost, Siemens, Marburg). Reibergrams were employed in order to determine if there was IgG intrathecal synthesis. Later on, antibody index against the specific virus were calculated. Results: In all the neuroimmune inflammation process were found antibody index against measles, mumps and rubella in a different ample confidence variation among the different virus. Antibodies against mumps are significantly different from the other ones. It could be due to a natural different immune response or due to a deficient vaccine quality lot. Also it was possible to identify six pediatric patients that had no immune antibody index at all. It coincides with a transient hypogammaglobulinemia of infancy in such patients. Conclusions: This neuroimmunological approach can be used to evaluate the immune status in pediatric population.

RESUMEN Introducción: Durante los procesos neuroinflamatorios se produce una activación poliespecífica y policlonal en el líquido cefalorraquídeo. Eso significa que pueden existir anticuerpos cuantificados contra todos los componentes de las vacunas que se reciban. Objetivo: Evaluar la respuesta inmune contra el sarampión, las paperas y la rubéola en pacientes pediátricos vacunados. Métodos: Se recogieron muestras pareadas de suero y líquido cefalorraquídeo (LCR) de pacientes pediátricos con síntomas neurológicos mediante punciones lumbares realizadas en hospitales de Ciudad de La Habana. El IgG y la albúmina del suero y el LCR fueron medidos con técnicas de inmunodifusión usando inmunoplacas Partigen NOR y LC (Siemens, Marburgo). Los anticuerpos específicos contra el sarampión, la parotiditis y la rubéola se cuantificaron con dispositivos para ELISA (Enzygnost, Siemens, Marburgo). Se utilizaron reibergramas para determinar la presencia de síntesis intratecal de IgG. Seguidamente se calculó el índice de anticuerpos contra el virus específico. Resultados: En todos los procesos de inflamación neuroinmune se encontraron índices de anticuerpos contra el sarampión, la parotiditis y la rubéola con una variación amplia y diferente entre los distintos virus. Los anticuerpos contra la parotiditis son significativamente diferentes a los demás, lo que puede deberse a una respuesta inmune natural distinta o a una deficiente calidad de las vacunas. También fue posible identificar a seis pacientes pediátricos en los que no se observó ningún índice de anticuerpos inmunes, en coincidencia con la presencia de hipogammaglobulinemia transitoria infantil en esos pacientes. Conclusiones: El enfoque neuroinmunológico que se describe puede usarse para evaluar el estado inmunológico de la población pediátrica.

ABSTRACT Introduction: The presence of IgG anti-Toxoplasma gondii has been used as an indicator to measure the naturally-acquired immune intrathecal response due to the polyclonal and polyspecific intrathecal response developed in neuroinflammation processes. The absence of anti-Toxoplasma gondii antibodies in a subject who had been exposed to the parasite could be seeded as immunocompromised. The aim of the study is determine cases of autoimmunity and immunodeficiency. Objective: Demonstrate whether the IgG anti-Toxoplasma gondii antibody index can be used as an indicator of a population immune status seen through patients with neuroinflammatory processes. Methods: Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and serum samples were taken from 64 pediatric patients with intrathecal synthesis of antibodies and IgG anti-Toxoplasma gondii antibody indexes (AI) were determined. Results: The sample was divided in three intervals according to Hansotto Reiber investigations (≤0.6; 0.6-1.5; ≥1.5) and a mean interval ±1SD between 0.23 and 1.12. The groups were quite similar regarding to clinic and demographic characteristics; there were statics differences on anti-Toxoplasma gondii AI (p<0.01) and the presence of domestic animals (p=0.04). In the group with AI≥1.5, the 83.3% had positive the Measles-Rubella-Zoster reaction, indicative of active autoimmune disease. On the group with AI≤0.6 were analyzed six different variables trying to find possible cases with immunodeficiencies: risk factors to contract toxoplasmosis; subjective clinical of immunocompromise; a test to detect immunodeficiencies; response against vacunal antigens and humoral response determined by IgG levels in serum. The immunodeficiencies test was the variable with higher statistical significance (p= 0.047). Conclusions: The conclusion was that is possible to find subjects with autoimmune disorder and other ones with immunocompromise through the IgG anti-Toxoplasma gondii index by the developed investigation strategy.

RESUMEN Introducción: La presencia de IgG anti-Toxoplasma gondii se ha utilizado como indicador para medir la respuesta inmune intratecal adquirida naturalmente, debido a la respuesta intratecal poliespecífica y policlonal que se produce en los procesos neuroinflamatorios. La ausencia de anticuerpos anti-Toxoplasma gondii en un sujeto que ha estado expuesto al parásito se puede ver como un caso de inmunocompromiso. Objetivo: Determinar casos de autoinmunidad e inmunodeficiencia. Métodos: Se tomaron muestras de líquido cefalorraquídeo (LCR) y suero de 64 pacientes pediátricos con síntesis intratecal de anticuerpos y se determinaron los índices de anticuerpos (IA) IgG anti-Toxoplasma gondii. Resultados: La muestra se dividió en tres intervalos según las investigaciones de Hansotto Reiber (·0,6; 0,6-1,5; ·1,5) y un intervalo medio ±1DE entre 0,23 y 1,12. Los grupos eran bastante similares en cuanto a sus características clínicas y demográficas, pero mostraban diferencias estadísticas en sus índices de anticuerpos anti-Toxoplasma gondii (p< 0,01) y la presencia de animales domésticos (p= 0,04). En el grupo con IA·1,5, el 83,3% tuvo una reacción positiva al sarampión-rubéola-zóster, lo que indica la presencia de enfermedad autoinmune activa. En el grupo con IA·0,6 se analizaron seis variables diferentes, tratando de encontrar posibles casos de inmunodeficiencia: factores de riesgo de contraer toxoplasmosis, historia clínica subjetiva de inmunocompromiso, una prueba para detectar inmunodeficiencias, respuesta ante antígenos vacunales y respuesta humoral determinada por niveles de IgG en suero. La prueba de inmunodeficiencias fue la variable que mostró la mayor significación estadística (p= 0,047). Conclusiones: Se concluye que es posible encontrar sujetos con trastornos autoinmunes y otros con inmunocompromiso a partir del índice de IgG anti- Toxoplasma gondii siguiendo la estrategia de investigación elaborada.

ABSTRACT Paramixovirus like mumps, rubella and measles are involved in some viral meningoencephalitis. Triple combined vaccines have been employed for several years in many countries. The aim of this work is to determine the IgG anti mumps, rubella and measles polyspecific response in pediatric patients with acute viral meningoencephalitis. A 2018 retrospective study in pediatric patients with acute viral meningoencephalitis previously vaccinated with the triple viral vaccine MMR was performed to identify the immune response status against mumps, rubella and measles in samples from LABCEL serum and cerebrospinal fluid collection. Quantification of IgG specific antibody was performed by ELISA. Intrathecal polyspecific response was present in all patients. A significant decrement of anti IgG mumps specific antibody index was observed according to age and response time. A shortage of the response time of IgG mumps specific antibodies according to the age of vaccination was demonstrated.

RESUMEN En las meningoencefalitis de etiología viral se encuentran implicados los paramixovirus (virus de la parotiditis, sarampión y rubeola). Las vacunas combinadas trivalentes han sido utilizadas durante años en muchos países. El objetivo del trabajo es determinar la respuesta poliespecífica de anticuerpos de tipo IgG anti parotiditis, rubeola y sarampión en pacientes pediátricos con meningoencefalitis víricas agudas. Se realizó un estudio retrospectivo en el año 2018 en muestras de pacientes pediátricos con meningoencefalitis viral aguda vacunados con la triple viral, donde se utilizó el índice de anticuerpos específicos anti-parotiditis, anti-rubeola y anti-sarampión para identificar el estado de respuesta inmunológica contra dichos virus en la muestra estudiada, procedentes de la serorraquioteca de LABCEL. Las determinaciones se hicieron por ELISA. Todos los pacientes presentaron respuesta poliespecífica intratecal, disminución significativa del índice de anticuerpos IgG anti-parotiditis con respecto a la edad y al tiempo de respuesta. Se evidencia un acortamiento del tiempo de respuesta de los anticuerpos de tipo IgG específicos anti-parotiditis en relación a la edad de vacunación.

ABSTRACT Introduction: The improvement of the Cuban society demands new research and teaching forms in accordance with national and international reality. Objective: To encourage students of medical sciences to become effectively involved in scientific research as protagonists, by means of a selective summer course for undergraduate and postgraduate students based on the principles of open science. Methods: We initially considered problems such as insufficient use of LABCEL for the progression of medical students and their connection with the syllabus, and then assumed the materialist dialectics as a general method of science. For the research tasks, the methods of the theoretical level were used, such as the historical-logical, analysis and synthesis, induction-deduction, and modeling with a system-related approach, together with documentary analysis. At the empirical level, the methods were observation, the survey, the interview with managers, the pedagogical experiment, and the pedagogical test. Results: The outcomes of seven years of work are supported by the prizes obtained, such as the Annual Immunology Award in the Teaching category, and by the international LURAP and IOP awards given by the American Physiological Society. Conclusions: The experience of these years of work indicates that this type of summer course based on open science is new and innovative.

RESUMEN Introducción: El perfeccionamiento de la sociedad cubana demanda nuevas formas de investigación y enseñanza acordes con la realidad nacional e internacional. Objetivo: Favorecer que los estudiantes de Ciencias Médicas se vinculen efectivamente a la investigación científica como protagonistas a partir de un curso de verano con carácter selectivo para estudiantes de pre y posgrado basado en los postulados de la ciencia abierta. Métodos: A partir de problemas como insuficiente aprovechamiento de LABCEL para el desarrollo de los estudiantes de medicina y su vinculación a planes de estudio, se asumió la dialéctica materialista como método general de la ciencia. Para las tareas de investigación se usaron los métodos del nivel teórico el histórico-lógico, análisis y síntesis, inducción-deducción, modelación con un enfoque de sistema junto a un análisis documental. En el nivel empírico el método fue la observación, la encuesta, la entrevista a directivos y el experimento pedagógico y la prueba pedagógica. Resultados: Se encontraron avalados por los premios obtenidos como el Premio Anual de Inmunología en la categoría docencia, y en los premios internacionales LURAP y IOP Award otorgado por la American Physiological Society los resultados de siete años de trabajo. Conclusiones: La experiencia de estos años de trabajo indica que esta modalidad de curso de verano a partir de la ciencia abierta es novedosa e innovadora.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Quincke´s Scholarship deals with themes related to neuroinmunology and the complement system. Objective: Describe the most recent advances of the Vll Edition of Quincke´s Scholarship. Methods: Publications pertaining to Quincke´s Scholarship were selected and revised from the work group of the Central Lab of Cerebrospinal fluid (LABCEL). Results: The principal topic was the C1q protein; initiator of the clasic complement pathway. From the analisis of the molecular concentration of this protein, its transference and the correlations between the concentration of C1q protein in cerebrospinal fluid (LCR) and the quotient of albumin (QAlb) between LCR and plasma it is hypothesized that an intratecal synthesis of the C1q in patients with a disfunction of the blood-brain barrier. The most recently discovered pathway in the activation of the complement is the lectin pathway. The diffusion of the MASP-3 protein from blood to LCR is proof that the MASP-3 is synthesized in the leptomeninges. The reibergram is useful to evaluate the inmune response in patients with: neurological manifestations caused by the dengue virus, and patients with multiple sclerosis. Conclusions: The Vll Edition of Quincke´s Scholarship dealt with C1q protein and recently discovered themes of the lectin pathway and the use of the reibergram.

ABSTRACT Introduction: The diffusion of proteins from the blood to the cerebrospinal fluid is influenced by its molecular weight and by the intrinsic properties and biological properties of the protein. Methods: Paired samples of serum and cerebrospinal fluid were taken from normal subjects to quantify albumin and proteins of the lectin pathway of the complement system. The distribution of these with regard to the value of QAlbúmin = (Albumin in serum / albumin in cerebrospinal fluid) was evaluated because this protein is used as a marker of the passage of the barrier. Results: It was observed that some of these describe a saturation pattern which resembles the curves that describe the Michaelis-Menten reaction of enzymatic activity. This led to the consideration of two constants that will help to characterize the behavior of these proteins by spreading to the cerebrospinal fluid: the maximum Q of the protein, which is the maximum proportion found empirically between the concentrations in blood and cerebrospinal fluid and the value Kcdw which is the value of the average diffusion speed of Q albumin when the semi-maximal value of the Q of the protein under study is obtained. Conclusions: Empirically obtained constants will help the characterization and differentiation of the diffusion of these new proteins as they pass from the blood to the cerebrospinal fluid.

ABSTRACT: The appearance of mixed odontogenic tumors into the oral cavity is a rare event. It is considered that some mixed tumors are only a stage in the complete development of a hamartomatous formation such as ameloblastic fibroodontoma and odontoma. Both pathologies share in common cellular elements which at one point makes them indistinguishable from each other. We present the case of a 21 year old patient who showed a mandibular growth whose histological elements present characteristics of both pathologies. The treatment was surgical excision of the lesion. There were no complications or recurrences to periodic reevaluation.

RESUMEN: La aparición de tumores odontogénicos mixtos en la cavidad oral es un evento raro. Se considera que algunos tumores mixtos son solo una etapa en el desarrollo completo de una formación hamartomatosa como el fibro-odontoma ameloblástico y odontoma. Ambas patologías comparten elementos celulares comunes que en un punto los hacen indistinguibles entre sí. Presentamos el caso de un paciente de 21 años que mostró un crecimiento mandibular cuyos elementos histológicos presentan características de ambas patologías. El tratamiento fue la escisión quirúrgica de la lesión. No hubo complicaciones o recurrencias a la reevaluación periódica.

RESUMEN Se contribuye al conocimiento de la diversidad florística de la familia Orchidaceae presente en el sistema fluvio-lagunar-deltaico Palizada-del Este (SFLD-PE) a partir de los datos obtenidos de 15 recolectas realizadas en diez sitios, durante agosto 2013 a febrero 2014. El listado incluye 27 especies en 17 géneros. Ocho especies son nuevos registros para el SFLD-PE: Bletia purpurea, Catasetum integerrimum, Habenaria pringlei, H. repens, Laelia (Schomburgkia) rubescens, Myrmecophila tibicinis, Ornithocephalus inflexus y Rhetinantha friedrichsthalii. Los géneros con el mayor número de especies son Epidendrum (4) y Prosthechea (4). En lo que respecta al hábito de crecimiento, 23 especies son epífitas (85 %), tres especies son terrestres o semiacuáticas (12 %) y una especie es exclusivamente terrestre (3 %). Las especies mejor representadas en los sitios son Brassavola grandiflora (8), Bletia purpurea (7) y Habenaria repens (6). Los hospederos con mayor número de especies son Pachira aquatica (20) y Zygia latifolia (7). Epidendrum isthmi fue la única especie que se encuentra en alguna categoría de riesgo, de acuerdo a la NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010. Diversas acciones antrópicas inciden negativamente en el SFLD-PE: deforestación, incendios y apertura de canales de agua provocan el deterioro y fragmentación de los hábitats, lo que pone en peligro el futuro de este grupo taxonómico y de otros grupos de plantas, por lo que el conocimiento de la biodiversidad de esta área es necesario para establecer estrategias de conservación, restauración y manejo sustentable.

ABSTRACT This paper is a contribution to the knowledge of the diversity of Orchidaceae in the Palizada del Este (SFLD-PE) fluvial-lagoon-deltic system based upon data generated from 15 collection events at ten sites conducted August 2012 through February 2014. The checklist includes 27 species in 17 genera. Eight species are new records for the SFLD-PE: Bletia purpurea, Catasetum integerrimum, Habenaria pringlei, H. repens, Laelia (Schomburgkia) rubescens, Myrmecophila tibicinis, Ornithocephalus inflexus, and Rhetinantha friedrichsthalii. The genera with the largest number of species are Epidendrum (4) and Prosthechea (4). As regards to life form, 23 species are epiphytic (85 %), three species are terrestrial or semiaquatic (12 %), and one species is terrestrial (3 %). The species present in more sites are Brassavola grandiflora (8), Bletia purpurea (7), and Habenaria repens (6). The hosts with the largest number of species are Pachira aquatica (20) and Zygia latifolia (7). Epidendrum isthmi is found in a risk category according to NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010. Several anthropic actions negatively affect the SFLD-PE: deforestation, fires, and open water channels lead to deterioration and fragmentation of habitats, which threatens the future of this taxonomic group as well as that of other groups of plants. Thus, knowledge of the biodiversity of this area is necessary for developing sound strategies for conservation, restoration, and sustainable management.

Resumen: El presente estudio tiene como objetivo estudiar la estructura factorial, fiabilidad y validez del Contínuum de Salud Mental (MHC-SF) de Keyes (2009) en el contexto ecuatoriano. La escala fue aplicada a dos muestras, una de 100 personas que funcionó como piloto y otra de 550 personas residentes en la ciudad de Cuenca- Ecuador, a quienes también se aplicó una adaptación del Perfil PERMA de Butler y Kern (2016) para comprobar la validez convergente y discriminante. Se observó que la aplicación en esta población presenta adecuados niveles de ajuste y alta consistencia interna (α= .91) y un ajuste general adecuado de la estructura de tres factores: bienestar psicológico, bienestar social, bienestar emocional propuestos por el autor, dando valores de RMSEA= .045, CFI= .996, χ2(52)= 109.048 (p= .000), GFI= .997 y TLI= 0.993. El modelo bifactorial presenta valores de RMSEA= .042, CFI= .996, χ2 (52)= 103.040 (p= .000), GFI= .997, TLI= 0.993. Se concluye que la versión en español de MHC-SF (Keyes, 2009) y la versión bifactorial son herramientas apropiadas para medir la salud mental en el contexto ecuatoriano

Abstract: Health Continuum (MHC-SF) of Keyes (2009) in the Ecuadorian context. The scale was applied to two samples, one of 100 people that worked as a pilot and another of 550 people resident in the city of Cuenca-Ecuador, who also were applied an adaptation of the PERMA Profile of Butler and Kern (2016) to verify the convergent and discriminant validity. It was observed that the application in this population presents adequate levels of adjustment and high internal consistency (α=.91) and an adequate general adjustment of the structure of three factors: psychological well-being, social welfare and emotional well-being proposed by the author whose main fit values are RMSEA= .045, CFI= .996, χ2(52)= 109.048 (p= .000), GFI= .997 y TLI= 0.993. The bifactor model presents good values as well: RMSEA= .042, CFI= .996, χ2(52) = 103.040 (p= .000), GFI= .997, TLI= 0.993. We conclude that the Spanish version of MHC-SF (Keyes, 2009) and the bifactor model are appropriate tools to measure mental health in the Ecuadorian context
